Super easy class...spent little time doing anything for this class outside of actually attending it... go to the class right before the exam to get a practice test that is near identical to the real thing- its done as classwork and he goes over it so you know all the answers... very nice guy (who likes to gamble)
lectures are interesting, but only teaches at night. Easy grader on hw wants you to get an A.

This course was taught well. It is a Biostatistics course and was practical and interesting. He gave very clear, easy to follow notes with short HW assignments. I would take the class again with him- very nice and helpful guy, good humor and wants you to do well.
GREAT STAT TEACHER!!! great notes, very clear. Class is based on exams. Final is optional. He assigns homework and then answers it the next class and THEN you turn it in for credit. Very easy to get along with and really wants his students to pass. Oh and you get to have a cheat notecard for ALL exams!!! TAKE HIM!!!!
i dont know what these people are talking about but i had him for bio-stat and this is not an easy A, but if your ok with a B then it is an easy class. Give quizes every week that are worth 30% of grade and two test 35% each. I work really hard, put in a good 20 hrs a week of hard core studying, and eneded up with an A-. Too much biology concept!
He must be the best math teacher that i had. You have to go to class and take all the notes that he gives you. You dont have to read the book other than the homework problems. He is very helpful if you need help. His tests are long but very doable. Definately one of the easy classes that I took. He is funny, and awesome...
BORING CLASS BUT EASY IF YOU GO TO CLASS AND MEMORIZE WHAT HE WRITES AND DOES ON THE BOARD. ONLY BAD THING ITS A TORTURE TO GET UP EARLY FOR A BORING CLASS. IF YOU CAN DO THAT IT SHOULD BE OKAY. BUT U DO HAVE TO MEMORIZE AND DO THE ASSIGN PROBLEMS TO GET A OTHERWISE IT'S UPTO YOU.
Great professor ... presents material very clearly, has very fair (but also very comprehensive) exams, and is very helpful.
His tests are directly based off his notes and you can use a notecard .. so no memorization needed and the concepts are easy to understand. Light homework. Very easy class overall. However, his tests are based directly off his notes so attendance is mandatory. otherwise, veryyyy easy.
His tests are DIRECTLY based off his notes and you can use a notecard on exam, THUS ATTENDANCE IS EXTREMELY MANDATORY. IF YOU MISS CLASS U WILL FAIL!. Otherwise, very easy class overall. 2 quiz 2 test but you can drop quiz and make up for them on the test, which give you a heck of a lot more option to improve your grade.
Alright so yea he's a pretty good teacher- dumbs things down a lot. Pretty boring material overall, i must say, even though i like math and bio. but the fact that it's boring isn't really his fault. seems to make the final pretty easy, but still study, cuz you need a 93 for A I think
Very fair teacher. Teaches with confidence and wants you to do well. He is willing to help, but YOU MUST ATTEND CLASS!
He's not the nicest teacher, but his exams are pretty easy if you study the notes and do all the hw problems he assigns. You don't need to read the chapters in the book (it's a waste of time). All you need to do is come to class, write down EVERYTHING he writes on the board, do hw, and study off of your notes & hw to do well. He allows the use of a
Great teacher. Extremely clear. Makes an easy course even easier. Totally straightforward. Notecard for each of 3 tests. 1 drop test. Don't do bad on a test, drop final. It's what I did and got an A easily. Take this teacher and class if you need a math class for Core. No reason to not ace your 1 math class
Long is a very good teacher. I have never understood statistic and if i do, i always get lost with the formulas at the test.Long have provided both accurate and clear understanding of statistic. There's notecard on the test, you can write anything you want in it;it serves as a roadmap.I advice Long, youll understand stat in a different level
Extremely clear, extremely easy!
He is EASY- allows use of note card on tests, clear as crystal when covering the material. Attendance is not mandatory, but recommended. There are only a few homework assignments (about one every other week). He lets out class early everyday. The final is optional. Highly recommended, especially to those who fear anything math-related.
If you need to take a stats class take this one. He makes sure that everyone understands what is he is teaching. I thought I was going to do terribly in his class and I got an A. Great teacher and great class
Great teacher! Nice, fun, helpful, clear, and funny. Always understanding and willing to explain anything without making you feel stupid. Stat 103 is very easy, there is little homework and we go over it in class. Go to class and you'll be fine. You can use notes on the tests, too. I'd take him again.
BEST MATH TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD - wonderful methods of imparting information. Great guy, really helpful, made class interesting. I am horrible at numbers and got an 'A' - you still have to work at the good grade, but you'll make it if you put effort into it. NOT one of those professors who makes it extremely difficult on students
Mr. Longman is a really cool guy! He is not out there to ruin your life so take him. I would study the night before an exam and I pulled off an A- on both exams which should tell you that if you put in SOME effort, you can totally get an A in this class! You have to attend days where homework is due because he replaces your lowest exam with them
Bret is AWESOME!!!! all you need to do is to attend the class and do the homework!Great sense of humor!
Dude. Bret is the bomb. Take his Biostats class. His lectures are incredibly crystal clear and he teaches you EXACTLY what you need to know. He makes learning statistics very easy. I really enjoy the material, too. Plus, he is a martial arts instructor, an added coolness point. Therefore, take him.
It doesn't get better than Bret. He's straight forward in his lectures. He tells you exactly what to expect on exams during reviews. Assigns homework and goes over all of it during class too. Exams are note based so no further reading required. He's the best and so clear--take him!
Excellent teacher, lets you make 3x5 notecard for exams, no final unless you miss an exam. Very easy class, very fun teacher.
Bret is the most outstanding, amazing math professor I've ever had. He super straightforward with the material and is ALWAYS crystal clear. I was super nervous to take stats because I'm TERRIBLE at math, but I ended up with an A. He has a great personality and definitely knows what he's taking about. I would take him again in a heartbeat.
This class is only easy because he's such a great professor. He knows his stuff and can actually teach better than the others who have doctorate degrees and what have you. So clear and the exams are very fair. Really funny too, I enjoyed this class. Def. recommend it to bio majors since its an easy bio elective. 2 exams and 1 noncumulative final
Really clear lecturer and a great class to take as an upper level biology.
Bret is a great teacher! Office hours are incredibly flexible and he's always willing to help. HW is optional; he goes over them prior to the quizzes. Quizzes are open note and 1 notecard is allowed on tests. I really admired his organization and clarity during lectures. It's hard to fail this class, but I suggest attending every class. Take him!
Easy. No homework. Skipped class and still got a B+. Good teacher especially if you struggle. Take Bret!
Extremely helpful, extremely clear. Bret is a great teacher. Show up to class, take notes, and do the homework and you'll definitely pass. Yes, he's easy, but honestly only because he teaches so well. Definitely take him if you can.
Bret is a saint, take him. 'Nuff said.
This guy make biostats good because of how clear he presents material. He is not going to try to trick you. He is straight forward, but will make down on details, which is expected.
SO EASY JUST TAKE.
Two words EASY A. He doesn't like the textbook so he simply tells you not to buy it. He's a really good teacher and makes stats super clear. GO TO CLASS, take notes, do the homework (like 6 assignments all semester)and you will for sure get an A and learn a lot. Tests are straight from homework which you always go over. Such a good class. Take him.
Excellent class. Never wastes your time. Simple and well taught concepts. Lets us out early most days. Seems like a good guy. I highly recommend.
Took him for 335 and again for 336. He teaches you everything you need to know and class is pretty straight forward...midterm, two part project (not too hard) and final are only major grades...I recommend!
Great teacher. Clear and straight to the point. Go to class, take notes, do the homework and you will do great. He is very picky with grading so make sure you show all your work! He is fair but may sometimes come off as a bit cold. I recommend!
Easy professor with an awful attitude. Just go to class, take notes and do the hw and you'll get an A. But he's not that approachable and a big a hole. But just take him for the A.
I don't know why he's so overrated. He's very rude, both in class and especially out of class. And he takes points off the silliest stuff.
Professor Longman is very rude and condescending. I wouldn't recommend him. He has gotten increasingly harder and his exams can be tricky. Attendance is mandatory!! If you don't show up to class he will hate you, and drop your final grade by a whole letter grade. The class grade consists of 3 test, 5 page paper, a project, quizzes, & the final.
I had Longman for my lower level math class, and he was pretty cool. So I decided to take him for Biostats, but he was much more difficult and mean. The class was a lot of work in comparison to other biostats professors. The exams were tricky as well. He made simple concepts very difficult to understand. Overall, I wouldn't recommend him.
Rude, mean and condescending.
decent class he gives you all you need for the exam in class he does seem to have a mean streak though
If you come to class, do the homework, and study for the exams you'll get an A. Only has 3 Exams and the Final is optional (replaces the worst test score). No need to buy the book for him, just notes.
Easy A but man is he rude. If you do not come to class he gets EXTREMELY upset and will remember you. He replaces your worst test with an optional final. I went to go ask him for help in office hours one day and I asked him a question. His response was, "Well you should have written it in your notes, I'm not gonna tell ya now." Got an A though.
easy. that's all you need to know. show up for class, write down everything he writes down, do the homework, and you WILL get an A. attendance is not mandatory, but you're paying good $ so you might as well attend. He's funny too, so it makes class worth it. Want an easy A? Take him.
Only a couple of tests, 7 homework assignments the whole semester (which take 15-20 min ea.). Final was optional if you had an A in the class. Let you use notecards on the tests. Attendance is VERY important; isn't very helpful because he doesn't have much time to. If you miss a class, it's your job to understand the concept 100%.
Bret is an amazing math professor! He is clear and concise! He doesn't assign homework, but he does give you practice problems for your own benefit. Tests and quizzes are easy and straight forward. He allows you a notecard for every test and quizzes are open note. I highly recommend taking him for any math class he teaches!
I'm in his 1st ever semester of MATH100. Painfully boring & easy. W/out trying I have an A. Mr. Longman is a great guy, incredibly disciplined (he runs a martial arts studio & did the marathon), and humorous. I loves stats and enrolled for his STAT103 next semester which will likely be far less boring. Also, no hw. Ever. Optional final too.
The first two exams were extremely easy, & then all of a sudden, he gave us an extremely tough final exam that was impossible to finish within the two hours. Honestly just a rude person who doesn't care about his students. If you take him, spend more time studying for the final than you think you need to & make sure to work fast and efficiently.
Coolest professor I've ever had. Keeps his lectures straight forward, though he's a bit picky about how to do the problems. Make sure to do them exactly how he does. MUST go to class to do well. Final was optional if you're comfortable with your grade. Write down all his notes and study them. Also, always do the homework and review it for tests.
Really cool guy and a great professor. I've never liked math, but Bret made it enjoyable. I'm even considering becoming a statistics minor. Attendance is important to getting a good grade, but it isn't mandatory. He also usually cuts his classes off very early, especially for t-th classes. Sometimes we would get out 45 minutes early.
I love him as a math teacher. I usually do as well in math but I found the content easy to grasp. He spends the entire period lecturing, plenty of examples and practice problems. He goes over quizzes and exams and always offers to help. He said the textbook is needed but I didn't use it as often. No homework. Keep track of graded work.
Excellent math teacher. Go to class and listen and you will get an easy A, even if you are terrible at math like me. Highly recommend Prof. Longman!
Longman makes a point to be very available to answer questions outside of class. There is no textbook, so you need to attend class if you want to do well. His lectures are very clear and overall the class was not very hard. 3 tests, and the final is optional - it replaces your worst test score if you take it.
You need to go to his class. He writes all notes on the board and they are his own notes. HE IS AMAZING. He helps a lot take advantage of him. Do the homework, go to class, and his tests are super easy if you are going to class! I would take him again if i could!
He is pretty easy to follow. It is all from him though so you have to go to class. There are no surprises just do the homework and the tests should be easy. Best thing is he just uses 3 of your 4 test grades.
LOVED his course. He was quick, clear, and concise and didn't waste time. Once he got through the lecture and no one had any questions, he would release the class. Chapters were taught in the same format so it was easy to follow. To get the A+: show up to class, ask questions, and take good notes.
Rude, even in office hours. Tests are ridiculously long for a you're not given nearly enough time to show what you've learned. He takes off many points for not answering parts of questions that were never asked for. Questions are tricky. Overall not a fair professor.
Very organized and clear cut with what he wants you to know. Tests were not hard; show up to every class, take notes, do the homework and sample problems, and you're good to go. Allows an index card cheat sheet on all exams. Non-cumulative final. Can come off as rude to some, but I think it's just because he tells you exactly what he wants/expects
He was an ok professor, he taught the class as if you knew the information already. If you asked a question he seemed annoyed by it. During his scheduled office hours, he wasn't available. He gave all the information, but he taught everything too fast. If you can go to tutoring, then I would recommend it. You may not need it. I wouldn't take him.
Bret is the best! He's so chill, funny, and straight to the point. He makes math as painless as possible. He's also v clear about what he wants so as long as you go to class, do the homework and understand everything, the tests are really easy. 3 tests, optional final, you get a notecard for each test. also ends class early a lot! HIGHLY recommend.
Take this stats class if you are scared you won't be able to pass stats. If you show up, listen to the lectures, and do the homework you will pass easily. Cumulative final but you don't have to take it if you like your grade at the end of the course. Compared to other stats professors, this class is accessible.
Mr. Longman might be the only sane professor in the math department. I would 100% recommend taking him whenever you can. Getting an A is as simple as showing up to class, paying attention, and doing the homework. Debatably I'm might be in love with Mr. Longman, he's just so great. TAKE HIM
If you want a straightforward professor take Bret. He gives tons of exams and is very straight forward for what he is looking for and hints at exam questions. Hw is assigned one week before an exam and gone over the day before. Therefore, most of the time all you have to do is show up to class and pay attention.
I love Professor Longman! He is the best professor in the statistics department. You learn stuff in his class yet the tests aren't a disaster. The tests follow the homework and notes exactly. It's always refreshing to have a professor where what he teaches is what is on the exam lol. Save yourself from the other horrible professors and take Longman
3 tests based off of the homework that is turned in the day before the exam. He teaches from his own notes not from the book so if you want a good grade don't skip his class. He always lets class out early and allows a note card on every exam. The final is optional. This is an easy stats class even if you've never taken a stats class before.
3 tests, 3 homework assignments, 1 paper. Basically if you go to class and take notes you will do well. Tests are usually 3-4 problems and have one final page that questions you on more minute details (which may trip people up) but its definitely doable (coming from a person who is usually bad at math).
Mr. Longman is everything that a math teacher should be. He is extremely straightforward, clear, and fair. Everything comes from lecture and homework. Thats it. You get a notecard for each exam. All exams are non-cumulative. One short paper at the end. Three homework assignments all year. You can also text Bret whenever to ask questions. 10/10.
Don't take him if you're not good at math! Lectures go very fast and he teaches from his own notes, which are sometimes wrong. Only graded based off of homework accuracy and 3 tests. Homework reviews are very fast and he won't let you study what you got wrong on HW.
Bret knows what he's talking about. He's really invested in the class, has really good notes, and is more than willing to go over things until students get the hang of it. Very fair grader, lets you know what is on the test beforehand. Would definitely recommend!
Among all math-related educators I have ever had, he takes the cake. He makes stats easy, which I never thought I'd say. TAKE HIM.
His teaching style, straightforward and clear, makes math understandable for those who believe they are not very good in the subject. The class is lecture heavy. That means attendance is mandatory. You are told in advance what will be on the three exams, and the final is optional. He is always willing to answer questions outside of class.
Bret is awesome! You just have to attend class because he teaches from his own notes but he makes it very interesting and clear. Only 3 exams and you can replace lowest score with an optional final. You also get out of class early all the time. Take him!!!!
He's straightforward and to the point, unlike other math teachers that like to talk around a math problem until it seemingly solves itself. He's clear and takes the time to explain each and every step when going through a problem and doesn't use a textbook. However, this means that if you miss a class, you're out of luck!
For in-person classes, attendance was mandatory since lectures were based on his notes (no textbook for the class). A ton of work in my opinion, also his lectures weren't as in-depth for online classes. His exams are really thorough, the time constraint is a big problem. I'd only recommend him if classes are in-person.
He's very clear about what you need to know and gives you everything you need to succeed. If you are going to take any stats class (online or in person) take it with him.
I've never been good at math but Longman made statistics digestible and easy for the online format. I admittedly would save most of the lectures and work for last-minute, but his recorded lectures were very easy to follow along with. I just wish he did not recycle old lectures from his Bio statistics class because I was a little lost sometimes.
One of the best math professors Ive ever had. Whatever problems he teaches in class are on the exam but the numbers are slightly different. Explains everything really well and always available when you need help. Highly recommended!!
He possibly the most unnecessarily difficult professor I've ever taken. Its a survey course and then he takes off points for minutia. He is rude and condescending, he wont give you the time of day for anything. He does not care if you succeed, this isn't even his main job, he runs a judo dojo so he does not care about you.
this class is pretty straight forward, but Longman takes off points for the smallest things. his exams are not hard at all but if you make little mistakes, AVOID. don't underestimate how easy this class is by the other reviews.
Easiest class I have taken at loyola. Do well on the tests that are almost exactly like the hw, and you won't have to take the final-- final replaces a test. Interesting dude that has a dojo.
This class was so straightforward. 3 hw's and 3 exams, all problems are exactly like the examples and classwork he does in the lectures. The lectures are usually around 30 minutes so they aren't bad, just watch them and follow along with the examples. A super clear class and easy a if you watch the lectures.
Wonderful prof! He's truly got online classes down pat. He made it easy to follow and very clear. Very thorough, and goes step-by-step. Asynchronous class, but I think it worked for the best. If you stay on top of lectures, classwork/hw, you'll be set for tests. Final replaces one bad test score, but you won't even need it. Must take!
Biostats isn't that difficult, but Longman is a giant, infected, gaping *sshole. He gets mad when you ask questions and is incredibly condescending in office hours. If you have previous stats classes, you'll be fine but if you're going in raw, I would maybe keep searching. No book, nice money-wise but you have nothing to reference outside of class
I hate this class. The material isnt difficult and is easy to master, but Longman is horrible. He takes off several points on exams for the smallest mistakes. He is also unnecessarily condescending when students ask questions in class. I got a B- on the first exam for small mistakes and theres no way I can get an A in the class anymore.
Awful teacher. Online course, taught via videos asynchronously. When I went to office hours he was condescending, rude, and expected you to know all the information already, even though you were asking for help. Little opportunity to get your grade up with only 3 HWS and tests. Would not recommend taking him at all
I honestly loved this class with Longman. Exam questions are very similar to class/HW problems and as long as you solve them the exact way he shows you in class, it is very doable to get an A. Just make sure to not miss class and study for the exams. He is rude and condescending to students that ask questions for some reason though.
I really enjoyed his class. As long as you go to his lectures and take notes you should be fine. Since he does not upload notes onto Sakai, it is essential to come to class or at least get the notes from someone else. The homework closely resembles the exam so as long as you go over it, you'll be fine.
Prof Longman has a very clear cut stats class. His lectures are very straightforward. I found him personally to be condescending, but as a professor he's fine.
Should not be a teacher at Loyola. Flippant and rude to students, and generally unprofessional. That said, his teaching methods are very straightforward and it's hard to fail his class (so long as you attend, and he won't help you if you miss a class - he HATES students to miss class for any reason).
Although he doesn't keep track of attendance, it is necessary for a good grade. If you miss a day, make sure to get the notes from a fellow classmate. He's clear on what you should study in order too be successful in the class. Grade is based on 3 exams and a paper due on the last day of class.
I love professor Longman! He is so straightforward, and easy to follow. He tells you exactly what will be on the test and you get a notecard. You definitely HAVE to go to lecture because there is no book or other resources. Your grade is almost entirely 3 exam grades, but if you do the homework you know what to expect. He's also so nice. TAKE HIM!!
Attendance is not part of final grade but is taken on random days; absolutely necessary to attend class, sakai site is barely used and you will not be able to do well without attending lectures; get to use a double-sided notecard on exams, HW is all for completion credit but is good practice- overall a really great class and easy to follow along!
absolutely attend every lecture if you want to get the highest grade possible. he makes it known early that whoever skips class is at a disadvantage. graded by three exams, a short paper, and hw that is completion points when you hand it in. lectures were straightforward and you will have everything you need to ace the exams with practice also!
I struggled with this class and did my best to pay attention to the lectures and do the homework. However, I am a person who benefits from a lot of practice, and there wasn't much in this class. You just have to listen and get it. I barely survived the first time, but as long as you're thorough in the tests and grasp the content, you're golden.
Attending class is crucial. During class he will point out notes that are very important and will likely be on the exam. You get to use a self-made notecard on the exams. Very helpful in class and office hours. Very transparent about exams and expectations.
Longman is the best. Everyone complaining about him doesn't go to class or doesn't pay attention when they do. He literally walks you through everything you need to do on the exam and you get a notecard for exams. If you plan on skipping class, don't take him, easy as that.
His lectures are very thorough. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you don't come to class there is no other way to get the material since he does not use a textbook. I also appreciate that he is loud enough for the whole class to hear him, but his voice lowkey gives me a migraine sometimes. The exams are very fair, its easy to get a 100 on them.
Two exams and a final, each worth 30%. Homework is 10% and graded on completion. Exams are exactly like the homework questions. While he doesn't grade attendance, showing up to class is necessary to succeed. He complains about people missing class in every lecture, which quickly got annoying but overall he's a nice guy who wants students to do well
Attendance isn't mandatory however, I would strongly recommend going to class. His expectations are clear and so are his lectures. 3 exams (with a notecard), all graded kindly, AND three 50pt homework graded by completion, you would have to try to not get a good grade in this class. He's also just a nice guy-- he wants you to do well!
Prof Longman's class is straightforward, but he can be condescending at times. Attendance is crucial - no textbook, so you need to be there. Exams are fair if you do the work. Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for practice.
this guy has lived so many lives and he's actually hilarious. he's also a very straight forward lecturer, i'd never taken a stats class prior to his but he was so good at teaching i never worried about this class. take him if you can ✌🏼
