Very helpful and patient. A great teacher to have.
Very patient and helpful. Best teacher ever.
Very patient and helpful. Best teacher ever.Is always willing to help.
Mr. Rickman is an enthusiastic teacher. He loves math, and it shows. He works to make sure everyone understands the info, and will sit down and help individually if necessary. Expect to participate in class. He will call on you!
He is an amazing teacher!! I finally get algebra and I believe that it is do to his teaching skill. He is helpful and nice and he EXPLAINS how to do the math! Recommended if you need Math 61, 61, and 63.
very easy to understand and goes through the previous assignments the next day...sometimes is not very helpful because the class is too big but he is a nice guy and is excited about math and teaching it...if you have problems with math i would recommend him.
Math has never been a strong point in my history. With the consistent help in learning how to navigate equations,I learned far more than anticipated, and I actually like math now. He is one of the very best teachers at p.c.c. I highly recommend Mr.B for all mathematical endeavors! Certainly a great teacher!!
I highly recommend Bret. He is very approachable and friendly, the type of teacher who will help you when you are stuck, rather than make you feel stupid and move on. His pretests are spot on and leave you well prepared. The only negative is a ton of homework, but if you put the work in, you will leave well prepared to move on to math 111 and more.
Bret is an excellent teacher and a good person. I would highly recommend him as an instructor. The material and objectives were clear, as well as everything needed to complete them. He is knowledgeable and a dedicated teacher, I am fortunate to have learned from him.
Bret is really nice and he wants everyone to learn. He wants everyone to do well. He assigns a lot of homework because the classes are four days a week. Would recommend.
Bret is a great teacher! He is passionate about teaching and it shows. He is very helpful, and will take extra time to help you if you need it. His tests always follow what he put in the pretest. I would highly recommend him, especially if you are someone who struggles in math.
I highly recommend Bret because he explains in terms that everyone can understand. I didn't get into his Math 95 next term, so i am taking a term off from math just so that he can be my teacher in the summer.
Bret is a nice guy and he makes sure he's available to help his students, which is great because I really struggled with MTH 95. He said we should easily be able to complete the homework in 2 hours, it was taking me 4 or 5. I didn't like that we had to use graphing calculators on tests and show him the graph.
Mr Rickman is a great teacher. He will help anyone who's trying - attitude is key (start saying I like story problems - it will help you!) He starts class by going over the previous days assgnd chptr, lectures on new material & 2x/wk stays after class to help w/q's. He allows a small note card, calc & straight edge for tests. I hope he teaches 111!
Bret is an amazing instructor! Very organized - follows his syllabus to a 't'. Assigns (and collects) a lot of homework BUT that is precisely what earned me an A in his class. Taking 95 over the summer in 4 short weeks just so I could take him. Very available to students outside of class, wants everyone to understand & succeed. Best prof ever!
Great Instructor. Very helpful and available for student questions. Bret, really emphasized understanding the concepts to prepare you for next level math.
He is so easyhis test are exactly like the take home quizes. And he had work time for the last hour so you can leave then, i always did. But this is all given i was in pre calc in high school so it was really easy. He talks about his vollyball team WAY to much so i hated coming to class. But easy A
Before taking his class i had math anxiety so bad. I just didnt understand math at all, now after taking math 61, I actually am finding that it's not that hard if you can take a slower class. I am getting an A and i never thought that would happen. I am taking him for 62 and 63, he is a good teacher. and easy going.
Amazing instructor. Cares about students' progress and understanding. I hated math prior to his courses (60/65) but he really encouraged and fostered this new appreciation I have of understanding math. Very easy tests if you take notes/read the book.
He is passionate about teaching, knowledgeable, will tutor you during his lunch break, always willing to help even during a quiz/test and he sees you struggling. Love pretests, extra credit opportunities.Encourages you. Only downfall was he tends to babble about his personal life and sometimes he is too slow with lecture or way too fast.
He is the best math teacher I have ever had. He offers to help during his breaks and you can find him in the tutoring center. He is very easy to get a hold of. Lets you keep track of your grade online, and posts quizzes and finals FAST!! He teaches at a pace that almost everyone can relaite to. This guy honestly makes math easier
Bret is the most amazing teacher I have ever had. I Wish that he taught higher lever math classes.
Mr Richman was very helpful and he explain everything. In class if you have question he is there for it.
Bret is the best MTH 60 teacher I have had. He works with students as much as he can, and especially on his free time. Communicates well and responds to all students. Also the online grades system is SUCH a great feature that he uses. Very understanding, very helpful, just amazing all around.
Bret is an amazing teacher! He is the only teacher i understood the material with, he allows calculators and the material he teaches in class is on the test. The practice tests are almsot identical to the actual test! His class is the only math class i have gotten a A in! I wish i could take him for math 65!!
Bret was a great math teacher and helped as much as he could but didn't spend a ton of time because it seemed like his schedule between classes was pretty busy. He kind of rushed a bit but nothing that your book couldn't help you out with. Overall a pretty good teacher and a good class to take!
I really enjoyed Bret's class. He gives out homework everyday, but he is always willing to help you out if you need it during his office hours. He does have a very busy schedule though. So make sure you are getting help with questions and homework outside of class.
Bret is very smart. I enjoyed his class, and understood the material 95% of the time. Although he is not flexible at all. Attendance is mandatory, and you cant make up tests no matter the reason. I never enjoyed his office hours, because it was like class, but with strangers. Which gave me an awkward vibe. I recommend Bret, but with moderation.
Bret is a very good teacher. He goes fast in class as there is a lot of material to cover. Most of the time class gets out early! You can go if you want but Bret encourages you to stay and do home work as he is there to help you if needed. If you want an easy grade this is not for you. You want to learn, this is the Professor for you......
This class is really boring and filled with anxiety because everyone is either scared to talk or does not talk. However, I do not blame them due to the fact this teacher gives never ending lectures in class. His class is also very very hard because of the amount of homework he gives you. But if you like that, then by all means take this professor.
I haven't taken any lower level math classes from anyone else. But why would I when PCC has Bret. This is the only teacher you need to consider. He is helpful, generous, and truly loves to teach. Take him a soon and as many times as you can.
Loves teaching and cares about his students spends office after class helping students grasp math concepts. Helped me overcome math anxiety highly recommend Bret.
The class is split into half lecture, half "lab" where you just work on a packet full of example questions. When he grades, he wants to give you as many points as possible. Homework is NOT optional and neither is the lab questions. Practice tests look exactly like the exams. I would definitely take his class again.
One of the better math instructors that I've came across. What's great about his class is that if you're stuck, and need help, he will be there for you. Countless times I've struggled (and yes, you will), I went to his office hours, and he helped. His tests aren't tough, and are a cut and paste of the practice exams. Take him.
He is nice, but terrible at teaching. When I ask for B he explans A-Z somehow magically avoiding B. He cannot look at a problem and solve it without looking at his notes, showing that either he gets flustered easily or that he can't figure it out. He gives a huge amount of homework and there is never enough time for lab. He tries at least...
Took Bret for math 60 and 65 a couple years ago when I came back to school. Was really worried about math, but am so glad I had my classes with him. He was always prepared, had clear slides ready + board demonstrations. Made sure to have good office hours. Lots of graded homework assignments, but you should do that anyway. GREAT practice exams.
He's a great teacher, I would take a class with him again. As said before he isn't great during lab time but he has an assistant that is helpful. I would definitely recommend him.
Bret is a great lecturer, but assigns a lot of homework and problems from the lab book. Homework is due weekly, whereas the lab material is due the last class of the week. The lab problems are very conceptual and difficult. However, he accepts homeworklab corrections for full credit. Also gives great practice exams and has good office hours.
Bret was an amazing instructor. He gives you labs at the end of almost every class. This allows you to apply what you have learned and is great for knowledge capture. You get points for HW and Labs + some EC opportunities. He will not just HAND you a good grade. He holds YOU accountable for it, but he will help! Still, you OWN YOUR SUCCESS!
Bret Rickman was the best math teacher that I have ever had. He cares about his students and is always willing to go the extra mile for them to understand what he is teaching. His practice exams are really helpful (but NOT exactly like the tests!). My only wish is that he taught MTH252 over the summer!
Clear expectations and grading, lectures were direct and applicable to the chapters. Always helpful and motivated to keep students motivated. Offers make up points by doing extra work. Overall this is a tough course, math is not my favorite but I've had horrible instructors in the past and I feel blessed to have had Rickman. I was able to follow it
Bret is the man. He is one of the best, if not the best teacher i've had at PCC. He is clear with his lectures, and you pushes you not only to challenge you but also because he wants to see you succeed. He is the benchmark of what I think teachers should stand for. Very good teacher. Would take his class again in a heartbeat. Thanks Bret!!
Simply put, he is AMAZING! I wish he was my one and only math instructor. Prepare to work hard though.
HE is an amazing teacher, and he also has wonderful personality. He always tries his best to clartify the lesson, and he gives you many chances to do your homework again to get full credits. Highly recommend ! HE is the best teacher that I've ever had
Brett is an amazing Instructor! Definitely take his class. He is a clear and great instructor as well as kind and inspirational. He REALLY makes us think on Lab assignments but he is there to help. The labs r graded. He has 2 tests and a final exam. He grades homework and attendance to help us out a bit(worth 5%)He also prepares us well for exams!!
He is AWESOME! Best math teacher I've had BY FAR. Stats isn't easy but I would take anything with him. Everything is fair, work load is normal, he really believes in his students and wants you to succeed.
Bret is ok. Can be confusing. I found him often annoying and felt spoken down to. If you ask for help, he'll help, but outside of classtime. The practice tests are vital, they are practically copies of the real test. I'd take him again for stats, but only because I've gotten used to his teaching style. Read the book to double check you understand.
Take Bret for any mth class!!! Great, patient guy always prepared to help. There's review packet and verified answers before every exams so nothing to worry about. Homework and lab can be corrected every time to earn the points back if you make mistakes. Textbook is essential for calc. students I believe. His ppt is all about the book.
Mr. Rickman's Math20 class is really great. He explains things multiple ways and they are easy to understand. He really wants you to succeed. The homework is insane. The problems are not hard but the amount of homework given makes it difficult if you have other classes and a job. Be prepared to work on math homework 15 hours a week.
Brett was always accessible during his office hours and replied to emails. There was a lot of homework which was required and all graded. His lectures were detailed and explained the topic sufficiently that I only used the textbook to obtain the homework problems. I used the library copy instead of buying it, saving me a lot.
Brett, was a great teacher and explained concepts several ways so it was easy to understand. Grading criteria was clear, lots of homework, but allows you to turn it back in to obtain extra points. He is very interested in students succeeding in his classes and is available outside of class!
Took Bret for Calc 1 & 2. Highly recommend for Calc 1 (can correct labs & HW, good pretests). For Calc 2 he seems a bit sporadic. His lectures are extremely compressed in order to push his group work agenda. This often forces students into labs semi-confused and in a rush to turn in half-completed work. Cant correct Labs or HW. Beware of Calc 2.
He is not a good Calc2 teacher,It seems he doesn't have much experience in teaching it. The lectures are alwasy rushed, disorganized, labs should be terned in at the same class, so group work is not helpfull and messy,But he does want you to really understand the material and always ready to help. I feel like over the time he can get better at 252.
He is very focused on you doing the work in his "Lab" portion of class. Not heavy on lecture. He gives you the basics and then tells you to work on harder problems he gives you with classmates. Very focused on doing things the way they would be done in the workplace. Hard due dates, no extra help, very hands off teaching. Always helped when asked.
Avoid this teacher for 252. Unless you are good at math this class will be very difficult. He throws challenge problems + HW at you the entire term which does not help you learn. The tests are very hard. He shortens his lecture to make more time for lab work (Due the same class). Results in rushed unfinished work. You have been warned.
I usually get A's in every math class I take. I've always been great at it. But this class was really hard and I struggled to understand some of the concepts because of the way he teaches. In his lecs starts with complex problems before giving simpler examples. He has us turn in the lab by the end of class, even though he doesnt give us enough time
I will describe with just one sentence. His teaching style was awful.
Bret unfortunately is not a good lecturer. His slides are great, but his explanations are often lengthy and unnecessary. His struggles with lecturing hurt the class as there is never enough time to complete the in class labs. He allows formula sheets and Excel for tests, however this does not make up for the fact that in class examples are notused
...I don't even know where to start. I earn A's, took the 1st exam and almost got an F. don't take statistics with him unless you're good at math in general. he makes no sense at times. you have to teach yourself
worst teacher ever, tough grader, boring, not recommended at all! DONT TAKE HIM FOR ANY MATH CLASS! There is about 6-8 students that dropped the class throughout the term.
Always willing to help. His lectures can be lengthy at times. He wants his students to pass and gives them plenty of opportunity's. He wants you to show the work with a simple explanation, lots of lab work. His style for Stats is he wants you to relate it to the real world and how people would use it in everyday life.
Organized lectures, easy to understand. Plenty of lab/group work and homework. Lots of work, but it really made me grasp the material well. Available to help and answer questions. Very encouraging and supportive. Offered extra credit. I enjoyed coming to his class and meeting him.
Bret is really nice and he is always willing to make time to go through anything you dont understand outside of class. His class is a little difficult because he has us read the chapters, then do the homework (graded for correctness) and THEN after you turn in the homework he will lecture on it.
Rickman is a really good teacher. His lectures and power points are good if you need to look back, you can find them on D2L or you can take a picture of it during break or end of class. If you need help, he is there at the end of class. He also teaches you excel commands. His study guide is very helpful and he lets you use a page of notes for tests
I returned to school after a 30-year absence and I had no idea who to choose for my first class back which was Statistics I. He truly cares about his students, and it comes through loud and clear. This are no layups in this class, you need to put in the work. Brett will make himself accessible to help you as long as your willing to help yourself
Rickman is a great professor! He is always willing to help you with homework and understanding the material better. If you get a low grade on an assignment, he lets you fix your mistakes and turn it in again to get a higher score. His practice exams are super helpful for the midterm and final exam - do them!
He really cares about his students and is willing to adapt to better help them. You can redo most assignments for a better grade. There are weekly quizzes but he's very straightforward with what's going to be on them. He works to make his material applicable to the real world.
Took MTH 243 through the web and couldn't recommend more! Class was well-paced with easy CYU (check your understanding) quizzes due on Sunday with retakes and homework/weekly assessments due Wednesday. He's incredibly understanding and offers multiple ways to learn. Midterm/Final only 15% of grade so if you actually do the work you're getting an A
Great teacher! He cares about your success and understanding the material. Responds quickly. Very helpful and understanding.
You basically teach yourself by reading the textbook, and I feel like there was limited support. During midterms we still had an entire course load to complete on top of studying. Overall he seems like a nice human being, but maybe not the best instructor for an all-online classes. The only class that has made me worry about my grade this much.
Bret's online class was surprisingly easy and engaging. He's a caring professor who allows assignment resubissions and responds quickly to any concerns. Quizzes and exams come from assignments, but self-teaching from the textbook was challenging. However, Bret offers office hours for help. Highly recommend his class.
If mathematics don't come easily to you take a different professor. I took this class fully remote. The textbook had typos that made certain concepts hard to understand. There is an overload of material to learn and announcements made. The exams are easy and the professor is very available to provide assistance in and out of office hours.
Nice guy but awful professor. Lectures are only 30 minutes long out of the 3-hour time slot and they don't help with the massive amount of homework he gives twice per week. The other 2.5 hours are spent in silence in group breakout rooms. He takes a 30-min meal break EVERY CLASS which is a waste of students' time. Youtube is a much better teacher.
I'm not going to say a lot besides the fact that I absolutely hated this class, he barely lectures, the videos he prepares before class didn't really help (at least didn't help me), and he primarily wants you to spend all class doing the labs. In retrospect I should've dropped the class but I wanted to stick it through. Never doing that again.
he was a great math teacher for me. he assigns videos before class to watch them so if you do those then you should have a good understanding and be ready to do the labs in class. he's great at explaining things and offering help if you need it. the tests and quizzes are very straightforward if you do the labs and watch the videos
He's a great teacher and always willing to help. Before class, we had to read the chapter, watch videos, and finish the homework. In class, we work in groups on labs. You can't start the lab until you've watched the assign HW. You can resubmit labs to fix your mistakes and earn back up to half of the points you missed. Not an easy class to get A.
Bret was an amazing teacher! During class we had a good amount of time to review before we went into groups, when we went into groups he would always check in and come when someone needed help. Super understanding and explained the work really well, answered questions nicely. He was also pretty easy to get ahold of
Bret is AWESOME w/ 1-1 help, availability, giving tools for success, and accommodations. It is clear he loves teaching. HOWEVER, the amount of HW is insane. The wkly assignments are complex and tedious and some weeks there's two of them. He gives out even more homework during midterms and finals weeks. It is a very, very hard class to keep up with.
Brett likes an "inverse teaching" model where lectures are pre recorded and viewed outside of class. When talking about statistics you can see his face light up which I thought was the best thing. Whenever I had trouble understanding anything he was available during his office hours and was really helpful. 10/10 recommend!
The class was a bit challenging but Bret was always available during his office hours to help! Definitely use the AI tool in the homework if taking the remote class, I found it helpful.
This class was a bit challenging but Bret was available during office hours for help! I definitely recommend using the AI tool if taking the class remotely, I found it helpful.
Rick is awesome!!! I have always hated statistics but he was great for being accessible during office hours and giving extra support as needed. This is a hard class and your participation and time really counts, but he is willing to help you as much as you need. There is lots of homework and in class assignments, but his teaching style is great.
Bret is great. It's rare to find an instructor who genuinely cares about their students' progress. Bret went out of his way to check in with me multiple times during the term, making himself available to teach as I was really lagging behind. I only wish I could have had more time to seek his knowledge. *cry* Working and school full time SUCKS!
I absolutely loved Brett! Uses inverse teaching model, has videos to watch before class and the homework software uses an AI tutor. Was always available outside of class and the 1-1 time was definitely beneficial. You can tell that he loves what he does. 10/10 will take a math class with him again!
Excellent! Class is light on math and heavy on concepts. He covers the concepts well. Was very accommodating with some issues I had during the term. Grades fairly and gives excellent feedback. His recorded videos as excellent for learning. You could get through this class just on his lectures and never use book. I will take him again if possible.
