BEST MATH TEACHER EVER!! He made me fall in love with math! He makes trig as easy as 1+1. If you take notes and review them b4 the test u're guaranteed a good grade.

He was very clear and explained everything! I had tried to pass 125 before w/ other prof's but had to drop and get "w's," but w/ him I got an "A!" I loved the matrices!!! Cool stuff! Fun teacher!

This guy is one of the best Calculus teachers I’ve ever had. He really gets you into the class. He explains the stuff really well. I always thought that graphing with derivatives was hard, but this teacher makes it easy. A must take teacher.

If anybody is taking a math class you should take Bret Carthew because if you are having any problems with math, he will gladly help you out, and make you understand math. He will tell you what to study for on the test. He will drop you lowest score on the test. He is a cool teacher.

I was so nervous to take my first step up the 'math ladder' but Brett made it easy! He can go a bit fast from time to time and if he does just tell him to slow down a bit. He is clear, humerous, helpful AND his tests are fair. I loved his class and I am actually looking forward to 125! He is a great prof and a nice guy.

This guy's a very smart, caring, and able teacher. He really knows his stuff and will always help you regardless of the type of questions you ask. One of those few teachers I developed a friendship with after class was over. If you really want to learn, take this guy. If you want an easy A..your best bet is to go find Siever or one of his clones.

he is alright, very easy, we writes the problems before the test so you can study, when you do take the test hope there is no football game for the next week or so, cuz you will not get the test back atleast for two weeks, curently getting an A in the class.

Mr. Carthew is an amazing professor, he really loves Math, he has fun every time he teaches, and makes Math look easy, wonderful teacher and has a excellent technique to aproach students, if you can take any of the courses you are lucky and will learn a lot. It's a shame that he doesn't teach nite courses.

Professor is easy. He reviews every test and has very few word problems on the tests. He clearly explains the class material.

Prof. Carthew is wonderful. Yes, his teaching method is concise; but it is not "he" that moves fast. The pace of every class is determined by the amount material the teacher is required to cover. All negative comments here have roots in misplaced/projected anger due to personal failure/dissapointment, not poor teaching.

I agree with the person who left the previous comment. This guy has a wonderful technique, and his tests are perfect and concise because it is not multiple choice, and he will stiull give you partial credit if you get the wrong answer, but tests are pretty easy. Whoever has given this guy a bad review is stupid, and needs to get off the crack.

The best math teacher I have ever had! He is incredibly helpful and will meet you before class (or stay after) to help you. He will explain stuff over and over until you get it. Very friendly and makes the class fun. His enthusiasm gets you through the difficult parts. Probably the first time I have ever enjoyed a math class. Oh, and I got an A.

Amazing! His love for math is contageous, he walks in everyday, with an excitement not shown by most teachers. I left not only knowing Calculus, but understanding "Why?" His class is by no means easy, this is CALCULUS. You will work like crazy, and you will lose sleep. But he is always there for you. And he will never let you down.

he's really cool! Calculus is not easy, you need to practice and study hard but he will help you anytime! Most of the lessons are not very clear, he can lost you but just study from the book and ask him questions. He is a really really caring teacher!!

Get ready to take notes. From day one you will be doing exercises in class, you will on average use 15 sheets of paper and have nonstop class work for the whole period. He rarely assigns Homework. If you show up to class, do all the class work and homework you won't have trouble in his class. He moves at a fast pace, the man loves his Starbucks

Professor Carthew was very helpful and always available when needed. He makes special arrangements to meet with students with last minute emergencies. You must devote plenty of time to study the material in order to pass the class. I definitly would recommend him.

Prof. Carthew is a great math teacher. this was the second time that I have taken math 125, and he is by far the best teacher. Be prepared to take a LOT of notes, but it's all on the exams. Take him, he's awesome!

Mr.C is great. He is very helpful and understanding with his students. he gives youa study guide the day before the test and the questions on the study guide are almost identical to the ones on the test. He can be somewhat of a softy if people nag him a lot. But other than that though he is the best Math Teacher I've taken in years.

I use to suck at math, but after taken his courses i feel very confident in the subject now. ALWAYS there for the student. Asking lots of questions to slow him down or else he will keep on writing more math examples on the board that you might not understand. notes are a must because everything he teaches is on the exams.

Easiest class I've ever taken, never did my homework, but I paid attention in class though and did the group work and got an A. He's so clear and teaches Math so well, wish he taught Calculus.

I believe he is a good teacher for ADD students (like me). His class is very engaging. He always talks TO you, not AT you. Ive never had a math class go by so fast, or been able to focus so long. Remember, there is a lot of material in this course, and he doesn't cut any corners. You will know all your stuff, but you will work your butt off.

Great professor, he is very helpful. Highly recommended. I am taking him for math 115 as well. Test are long, but he gives you 15 problems prior from last test. Drops lowest score. Attending any math class is crucial, you fall behind if you miss class. I hardly did my H.W and still managed to get a B.

He is very dedicated into helping the students out. He really is worth taking. His test are as simple a the study guide that he gives you the week prior of the test. Over all a great teacher who cares for the knowledge and knows how to present it to students.

All I can say is that he is the best math professor out there! I hated math and I dropped my previous math class, when I took his class, I started to love the subject and better understand it. He is extremely helpful and a very positive person! Take him , you will not regret it!

the BEST Math professor! I learned more from him in the first month of class than all of jr high and high school. Used to hate Math but he makes it easy to understand. Do all of the homework and you will learn it. It gets easier really fast. Wish I'd had him in high school, would have been a life changer.

Professor Carthew is extremely patient in teaching so every student can understood each assignment. He ALWAYS took every question I would ask. I asked A LOT! I felt like this class was more of a community, because the students all formed around his teaching ability. The consensus was that it was a thriving educational experience to be a part of!

i mean, what can i say about professor carthew that hasnt already been said. this is only my second day taking his class and he is already my favorite teacher. you can tell he loves what he does. he explains every single step of a problem even if only one student in the class doesnt understand. he really wants you to succeed. HIGHLY recommend :)

I'm really bad at math and he helped out a lot. He drops lowest test score always gives a practice test and reviews it in class with you. It is almost like the test so study it helps a lot. He is an amazing professor. He also does collaboratives.

Professor Carthew was a fantastic teacher and a really nice guy! I'm not good at all in Algebra, but he made Algebra a totally understandable class for me. He's awesome! I ended up with an "A" in the class. One of the best teachers ever!

Provides study guides and gives 1, 2, or 3 points per problem. He recommends tutoring and it truly is a life saver. Give yourself a greater chance to pass this class by going to tutoring from the beginning of the semester. Ask questions. Color code your notes so you can triple check the problems he suggests for tests.

Professor Carthew's lectures are very good because he goes through the problems step by step on the board and answers any and all questions so that you understand the material. He is always encouraging the students to see him during his office hours and to go to the math lab if you need any kind of help. He gives very few tests. Take his classes.

Awesome teacher!! Does tons of problems on the board until the end of class. They show up on test. Show up to class. He'll call you on it if your skipping. Assigns homework, never had to turn it in. Does not give ex credit. Not strong in math have to study really HARD to pass. If you need ex credit to pass take Paget.

Great Professor that wants his students to succeed. He is easy-going and super friendly. Math problem after math problem he really wants to show you how to do them. Will take every question that a student has with no annoyance whatsoever. Exam questions are reviewed before he actually gives out the exam.

Prof. Carthew is by far the best math teacher out there. ihave a taken a great share of math and never found anyone to come as close as he does. theres homework everyday but its not always mandatory and its easy. he goes over example problems that are going to be on tests. he is willing to help and wants his students to succeed. this is amust take.

I really liked his class. Gives partial credit on test questions. IS VERY HELPFUL after class, VERY patient and teaches very clear. BUT... his lectures are on fast forward. He is a great professor because he drops your lowest score and because he is very clear on his lectures. i have not taken any math classes for 6 years and i was able to understand everything he taught. you do need to study but he gives a study guide and its extremely helpful. i recommend him to anyone who hates math.

This professor is very chill and nice, he will help you if you need it. The only problem is that he goes very fast during lectures so you have to keep up and ask many questions! Professor carthew is hands down the best and chilled professor I ever took. He actually helps you if you don't understand. His test questions are almost the same as the study guide. Just study those and you should be good. He doest assign annoying online math homework (which is a waste of money) and you barely even need the book. TAKE THIS CLASS!!

I had him for Math 115 and 125. I didn't consider myself a good math student, but he explains things very simply and helped rebuild my broken 'math' confidence. He gives 3 exams and 1 final, but drops the lowest test grade. No HW collected. If you want to do well in the class FOR SURE DO THE REVIEW BEFORE THE TEST (2x). I will miss him! :'(

Look, if you are placed in a below college level math class, it is a sign that you REALLY need to work at it. That means you need to be in class and pay attention. Prof Carthew is fair, he clearly loves what he is teaching, and he will go to any lengths to help you understand. You just have to be present, and speak up when you don't get something.

He is one of the best, you can always ask him for help and he will answer you! The only thing I want to say is LAZY PEOPLE are not allowed to his class, I mean he gives lots of homework for YOU to practice yourself. I passed his test by doing all the homeworks alone. Mr. Carthew is the math teacher I always needed, and never had. He made me believe in myself again when it came to math, my most dreaded of subjects and the bane of my educational existence. Fair, reasonable and patient--he took the time to help me, and is lenient when it comes to grading if he sees that you are trying. He's the best there is.

If you're struggling with algebra, please take this professor. He teaches in a way that will HELP YOU UNDERSTAND. It's sort of like he talks to you like a baby, which is a good thing. Gives clear and organized lectures/notes. Missed a class? Notes are posted online and he's available for office hours. Homework is due by the end of the semester so you can take your time or do it all whenever. Cares about learning, does not drift off, explains thoroughly and as many times you need. Excellent professor!! Took him during COVID-19 and was nervous taking math after 10 years since graduating high school, yet alone online and WOW! Show up every lecture, he gives homework every day 3-7 problems (easy). Due at the end of the semester, but I recommend doing it every day to get As on the midterms! 4 midterms, 1 final.

Math has always been a huge struggle for me, but this Professor was so amazing, helpful, patient, understanding and kind. He really knows his stuff and seems to really enjoy helping his students learn it. If you take this class you will be glad you did !!!

I took a 5 week course so everything was condensed and we went very fast but he did his best to make sure everyone was following along. Attendance is super important and participation really helps. Definitely be ready the very moment class starts though.

Great teacher. Explains everything very well and will sit there and halt the class until everyone gets it. He just doesn't teach on and on but actually assists you when you have any questions.

Not a bad prof. Has hw for every lesson but isn't due till the end of the semester. Goes over a lesson or two during lecture. Has 3-4 exams + final. Lecture is majority working out problems (his form of teaching the lesson). Will answer any question to make sure you understood. Might seem slow for those who are used to more rigorous teaching.

Professor Carthew is hands down most respectful and caring professors I've ever taken in my college career. Tests are very similar to the HW, so do the HW. He also gives a study guide which will help a lot. He's fast sometimes when going over problems but will stop and explain thoroughly if anyone needs it to make sure everyone gets it.

Summary: You have to join his Zoom meetings Monday-Friday. He doesn't care if you don't attend on time, as long as you show up for attendance at the end of class. His homework website isn't free but is easy to learn and complete. There are 3 tests. Your camera will be on, but it is all multiple choice and you can cheat all you want. He is a free A+

Overall a very clear and great teacher when it comes to math and in this case trig. You can technically not buy the book and get an A by only taking notes/taking pictures from each lecture but not recommended especially if you're taking more math in the future

Professor Carthew is a caring instructor who makes the material engaging. Doing the homework and using resources like unstuck ai are key to success. Attend class and you'll learn a lot!

He was an great professor. Whenever someone asks a question, he gives great feedback. One downside is that unless you ask a question, he will skip over some things he might find relatively easy to understand. He gives practice problems before the test, and he does that for all 5 easy tests he gives too. Would 100% take his class again, me approved!

Mr. Carthew is an excellent teacher. Our class is mainly graded on tests, which account for 90% of our grade, while homework accounts for 10%. He has us do collaborative work to prepare for the tests, and the study guide is essentially the same as the test itself. If you pay attention and stay on top of the formulas, you can easily do well.

I took Bret Carthew at LAVC for Stats. He's a nice guy, but a bit scattered in lectures. Does the HW in class but doesn't really explain it. Final is 25% of grade HW is 15% of grade tests are 55% of grade classwork is 5% of grade. I got a C+.
