Dr. Holland is great! He has a dry sense of humor, but he is a hoot. Dr. Holland really wants to help his students. He's very clear about what's expected. If you study hard you'll easily get an A.

He is a great teacher with a lot of experience teaching basic genetics. Some of the wording on tests is tricky but it will help you with the GRE later on. He also cares a lot about students, which you will notice if you go to his office hour to ask questions. He is very understanding as well. I broke a bone that semester, and he was the only profes

I thought this course was going to kill me. I studied my butt off and got a B on the first exam, an D- on the second exam, and a C on the final exam and somehow ended up with a B+ in the class. Must have had a huge curve. Do all the HW and truly understand it and you'll succeed.

Great lecturer and lab instructor. Very understanding person. Test were online (in class tho). Make sure you put real effort in the homework as they will haunt ur final grade if you do last minute work all the time.

Uptight lazy folk will not enjoy this prof. He is funny and sarcastic, but not disrespectful and is tolerant of "retaliation" Easy A seekrs go elsewhere, but if you wnat to actually learn the material Holland is the best.

Dr. Holland is great. Loved the Evolution class. This class is designed to make you think, you can get alot out of it if you are interested and do the reading. I learned so much!! :)

Hi is tough but an awesome teacher. His tests are difficult. I studied my hardest and I got b's. But overall he is a fair teacher and super funny.

His bio 184 (genetics) class is not too bad. 3 exams 1 final and weekly online homework assignments. The material isn't too tough but he definitely tests your true understanding of the material. Very sarcastic teacher. Exams and Finals are taken online with open book and notes for Bio20. You will pass if you attend all class meetings and read materials. He teaches according to the text book so if you don't understand his lectures you can always read the book. Homework are assigned to help you with exams and doesn't count against your grade

Prof. Holland is amazing. He is very dry and sarcastic. His lectures are always entertaining... He highly encourages questions in class about previous homework; he always asks for feedback about the tests. Attendance is not mandatory, but I do recommend going to every class because he will add extra slides & give extra info. TAKE THIS CLASS!

Great professor. This class was one of the first times that I found Biology interesting. Overall it's an easy class as long as you put a little time into it. Holland is also very willing to help students. Class is fun. If you appreciate dry humor, you'll love Holland.

He explains the marterial pretty well... in a step by step guided lecture, but the homework and tests require that you understand the lecture to the point of comprehending it. Overall if this is not a required course don't take it.

I took the course to fulfill GE req. However, the class was the highlight of my afternoon. The professor is very entertaining and makes all the "science" stuff fun and interesting. Nice thing is you don't have to buy a test book cause he figures everything in a book is also on the interest and equal quality. Also the workload was very managable

TO PEOPLE WHO DO NOT THINK THAT THEY ARE SMART, especially in biology! Get into one of Professor Hollands classes! He is such an amazing teacher, and honestly, he isnt like any professor I have ever had. I had him at 9 in the morning mwf but he made class so interesting and fun that it didnt matter how early it was! Hes really nice, and hilarious!

Professor Holland was by far my favorite professor at CSUS thus far! I am currently a third year student, so that says a lot! I love his dry sense of humor, which is definitely engaging in a positive way. I cannot even recount the number of times I laughed out loud in his class! I looked forward to coming to his class and learning, while laughing!

I hated going to this class, he changed all of a sudden into this mean person! The quizzes were extremely hard, tests aswell unless u read the books. The first book is hecka interesting though . he can be funny but he also is rude

Good guy, funny teacher. Everything is really clear and if you simply read the chapters, do the homework, and go over all of the practice tests/study guides you will get an A. He is also really fair, take him if you can!

I've taken lots of bio classes and had to backtrack and take this one when I transferred... What people call "rude" is really called "sarcasm". He values students that think and provide substance to a class... Very funny if you have the right sense of humor. Makes class interesting and enjoyable. I'd take him again! Not super difficult, just study!

All Homework and Reading Assignments are completed online SAC CT. You have a Max of 3 Chances to improve your Score; your highest score is taken! Exams are very difficult!!!only 20% of what was dicussed during lecture and in the Reading was on the Exam. the other 80% you have too google it! Exam is Open Book/Notes.

Throws a bunch of curveball questions on the Homework Assignments towards the end of the Semester to try and mess up your grade.. Exams are very Challenging regardless if you Study or Not. If your really smart in Biology, this is the class for you! If not, look elsewhere...

Awesome teacher! He makes class fun, he's a cool guy. Class is easy to sit through because he makes it fun. Daily quizzes/homework on CT. Test were fair because he taught us all the material on it. Would take him again for another class!

He is a fun teacher, likes to say jokes but he jokes to much that he falls behind his lectures. The quizzes are easy but you need to read.

He is a teacher that really knows what he's talking about and still cracks jokes daily. I actually enjoyed coming to class and learning. His lectures are actually interesting and goes out of his way to help students. One of my favorite teachers I've ever had. Just remember to keep up with reading.

First off, extremely funny. Made information relevant and interesting. Attendance is key to understanding material and doing well. Does not require any expensive textbooks just two cheap ones. ($10) Class requires effort and studying for an A in the class. Would recommend.

Good professor. Works hard to make topics relevant to our everyday lives, which makes the class pretty interesting. Lots of homework throughout the week that isnt challenging but does require that you read the books he assigns. The books are two small chapter books that tie in to lecture topics. Print out the lecture slides, they will help a lot.

Most amazing teacher I have ever had. Prior to his class I hated any kind of science but his class made me want to be a biology major. You will learn so much in his class!! It is a little rough but very do-able. You are only required to read two small books which I honestly wish I bought... AND he is hilarious. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN.

This professor is so great. The class is very interesting, the assigned readings as well. It can be an "easy" class as long as you keep up with the readings and ask questions if you don't understand the lecture (but that's any class, right?) And the chili pepper isn't a joke! ;)HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Great professor. 2 chapter books are required for assignments(quizzes). 3 attempts for the quizzes after every chapter. Attendance isnt mandatory only b/c he wants committed students in class. Attendance is recommended because the lectures make up a wide portion of what'll be on the tests. This class is EASY if you read,follow deadlines,take notes.

He is funny and his lectures can be fun. It is not mandatory to go to every class however it will help. One quiz on book every week one quiz on lecture every other week and 3 exams. You need to read and pay attention.

Definitely not an easy class but I would say its do-able. Professor Holland is very funny and keeps the class entertained. The tests, homework, and quizes are tricky but going to class makes a huge difference. This class is worth taking because you will learn SO much. Not an easy A but you have to put in time and effort.

By far one of the funniest professors I have ever had! Really great guy; he puts in a lot of effort to make his lectures interesting & relevant to present day college students. Just read the 2 chapter books and do weekly quizzes and it's an EASY B. Easy A if you actually pay attention to lectures. HIGHLY RECOMMEND; you will like actually enjoy him!

Amazing! My favourite teacher to this day perhaps as far as keeping me interested and entertained goes! He honestly is so cool, someone you want to actually have a chat with about life in general not just about work! HIGHLY recommend.

Lots of homework, all online with strict deadlines. DO THE READING; it's really the most important part of the class. He picks really interesting books, though, so it's easy to get through. This class is very enjoyable. Quizzes oncetwice a week from reading. The books are interesting & affordable! Homework once a week from the lecture. He posts slides online but he explains them into more detail during the lecture so attend class! Quizzeshomework are all online and gives you 3 attempts. His exams are pretty hard. So study hard!

The hardest part of this class was all the readings and quizzes we had before every class, but if you actually read the book it wasn't that bad. His lectures were very interesting and he would say funny things that would leave everyone crying from laughing so hard. He made the class interesting and i hope to have more classes with him later on.

Great professor! He uses analogies to make material easier to understand, makes lectures interesting, and is funny. 3 Exams make up 75% grade. They are 40 MCQ and mostly from quiz and HW material which are online and easy. There are 2 books to read but they are real books and are interesting. You can get by without reading, just look up answers.

I loved his class. There wasn't a textbook, only 2 books to read and they were really interesting to me. I thought he was funny, could be kind of mean at times but in his defense, some of the students asked really annoying questions. The tests were hard and weekly quizzes on the readings but i loved it. really interesting for a bio GE class

great guy and very funny. which makes the class a lot more interesting and fun especially for those late afternoon courses. Reading is required and exams are tough enough for upper division biology course, but he is cool upon grading them.

Always cracking jokes about difficult subject matter, makes topic seem more approachable. Really passionate about biology. Class can be skipped but never felt desire to- always entertained and he never teaches for the whole class time. he shuts it down when he notices were struggling and says we shall continue next time. homework is easy!

Funniest and easiest class of college. Tests are easy, just read over the lecture slides and skim the hws and quizzes, it is mostly verbatim. Easy A if you put in even minimal effort and use intuition.

Great professor, two easy essays accompanied by three fairly easy exams. Stay on top of reading quizzes/ homework and you will easily pass.

No textbook but instead 2 pretty interesting books. Homework almost every week, chapter quizzes twice a week. The homework is pretty hard because it's multiple answers. Although he doesn't give out a study guide, just simply going over the hw and quizzes will help because some questions are the same as the test.

I loved taking this class. He explains his lectures clearly and concisely and doesn't stray from the PPT. 4 exams, STUDY and print out all homework/quizzes/lectures to best help. 2 books for quizzes, 2 essays, go to class bc he's funny and it just helps sitting in.

Super easy class. Lots of HW and reading quizzes (both online), but its all super easy. You can skim the chapters and find the answers, but I recommend actually reading if you want to do well on the tests. You don't need to go to class if you actually go over the lecture slides on your own time to do the HW. Lectures can be funny sometimes.

I ended with a C but thats because I stopped paying attention, not because he's a poor teacher. he's hilarious and always willing to help his students. Definitely take his class!

I am not a science major, but I really enjoyed this professor. I didn't take notes, just paid attention to the lectures and did well on the tests. The HWs are basically just quizzes, and the answers are easy to find. So I don't understand why people are complaining about them. I did none of the reading and still did well in the class.

Dr. Holland is hilarious. I really enjoyed his lectures and I was so fascinated by this class, especially the Exam 4 material. He makes a lot of jokes and introduces experiments, evidence, and opposing theories, instead of just handing you the information. Highly recommend attending lecture because slides are difficult to understand without context

I don't like biology but this class was so interesting. He gives review guides from the previous years exams. You only have 4 exams. He's entertaining but he seems bland at first. I would take if you're looking for an easy biology class. If you don't show up, you won't pass.

Easy bio class, I would recommend to take. You do have several quizzes each week but they are easy to pass bc he does give you 3 tries for each and he gives you a week to complete. As long as you keep up with the hw and quizzes then you will pass. Zoom classes are not mandatory, I never go and still have an A.

Pretty solid choice, I would even take him again. The course material is also pretty interesting so that is a bonus. He is very nice and shows that he cares about his students.

TAKE ANY CLASS WITH HOLLAND! Loved taking this class. HW assignments for each lecture with 3 attempts allowed. Exams are mc and one essay question. The essay question he gives you ahead of time and allows you to copy/paste the answer in. Lectures are enjoyable. Textbook was not used.

He jokes along with us when we talk about things in the lectures and even before/after class, he is really chill. Everything is an open note and you can even search things up on google for the exams(all online).you should still come to class, he'll talk about stuff in class that help on the exams. As long as you try in this class you pass.

Super simple and straight forward professor. You come to class, he gives the slides, he lectures and provides you with context and information, you do the homework thats all questions from the lectures, and you're done. Easy to pass, and easy to do well. Really really nice professor with good lectures.

Asynchronous online class, not too difficult but some labs can be challenging. Labs have no time limit & he encourages u to use sources like google if the labs aren't enough to find answers. Labs every week, sometimes u get an option between doing a hands-on lab with cheap & accessible materials that u provide urself or a quiz lab.

The lab was very straight forward, each class he explains what you are doing and any parts that may be confusing. Very funny and is easy to ask for help if needed. Really liked how quizzes are set up. After the lab quiz would open on Wednesday and you would have until Sunday to complete. Very easy quiz with the answers found in the lab manual.

He explains things pretty well and is a nice professor. The lab book wasn't that expensive either. Attendance is weird because if you come in late he knocks off 2 points but if you don't go at all you can still receive the full 12 points if you do the easy makeup work. I ended up not going to class at all after 2 weeks and passed the class easily.

Professor Holland is funny and makes the lab a joy to go to. He also understood that sometimes you can't always make it to the lab and offered ways to make it up. I don't know why his rating is kinda low I love him.
