One of the best professors I've ever had -- undergrad and grad combined (and darn cute ;) He engages students, even in large classes.

A great professor. Interesting lectures, extremely intelligent, cool guy, relates everything to sex...it's funny
Very fun
Awesome!
he is the funniest and best teacher i have had my whole time going to school here
King rocks. Not so sure about how that TA calculated my grade..... but King's class was still fun and informative.
Awesome Professor, makes classes interesting. One of the best professors at CU.
Great Intro to Psych instructor. Each class was informative and entertaining. He's also a great guy with very funny stories.
best teacher ive ever had ive taken two classes with him and there both amazing everyone at colorado should take Social Psychology with King
Stay for the whole review session
Awesome professor! You have to take a class with King! Notes are clear; likes how he puts them on overheads. Don't overlook reading the book; some of his questions on exams are on info only from the book and not covered in class. Makes it tricky if you haven't read it. Go to class; when attendance in low, he might tell the answer to a test question
stay for the reviews
He is by far the best professor that i have had here at CU. I am going to keep on taking his classes, just to listen to the funny stories. I would definently recommend him to anyone
King is the most incredible professor on this campus! I also took his Social Psych & History of Psych class. He will do anything to help and his lectures are really interesting!
King is hilarious!!! He makes every subject a little more interesting with his stories and examples. I loved him and wish I was a psyc major so I could take more with him.
Funny, teaches well, study guides, tells you what's on test if you go to class.

HE IS ****ING HILARIOUS!
HE IS GREAT< TAKE HIS CLASS SOCIAL PSYCH IS THE BEST
he is the best teacher i've had at CU. I've taken 4 classes with him!
I laugh to tears in his class. The best part is I remember the material too!
THE BEST professor I have ever had. I actually desired to go to his class and learn.
Very funny, I remember the material, easily contactable, one of the best profs I've had here.
I had King my first semester at CU...and I can't wait to take another class with him. I keep looking for classes to take with him because he is AWESOME. People think Berta's the best (and he's awesome as well) but King is by far my favorite prof at CU. He's smart, funny, and he's so freaking friendy & helpful. He's totally into what he's doing and it shows. Take a class from him! I RECOMMEND IT!!!
Great prof! I really look forward to lectures and he's a funny, animated guy. I'd like to TA for him sometime!
one of the best profs i've ever had. he loves what hes doing and it shows. such a funny and helpful guy -- never missed a class. I HIGHLY recommend taking a class of his.
he is funny
best professor i have ever had. really clear, funny and helpful. goes over everything you need to know for exams and does everything he can so you do well. take his class!
Awesome teacher, very engaging. He makes jokes all the time and tells hilarious stories.
Awesome teacher!! Hilarious, entertaining, and a great prof. Highly reccomend taking his Social Psych class
Awesome prof! Take any class he has to offer, you wont be let down. I hated having to miss a lecture!
Brett King is by far the best teacher i have had yet in boulder, he makes those hour and 15 min lectures hilarious and teaches students in a way they can relate to....he rocks!!
He's sooo nice, his classes are entertaining, going to class pays off because he will show random stuff in class, make sure everyone in class that specific day knows he's putting that random thing on the test (Homer Simpson, Seinfeld, etc.) and actually puts that on the test... I def. suggest taking his class (and attending)!
Perfect Professor. Highly recommend.
People think this instructor (not professor- there is a difference) funny- I suppose so, but he ignores raised hands in the class, doesn't answer email, wanders off topic- the textbook is *awful*. Even worse, he ordered the version that advertises "mypsychlab" but without the included access code. No way will I pay an additional $60 for that!
This class is great! King is really easy to learn from because he makes everything funny and interesting. Going to class and his review sessions really pays off.
he's the best!!!
Greatest professor I've ever had! He gives hints about what questions will be on the tests if you go to class. Sometimes he gets a little repetative, but him saying everything 3 times really gets it drilled into your head for the exam. Definitely take any class he teaches! And for social psych, reading the book helps on tests.
Funny Stories to explain material. Tests were alittle difficult.
Hes amazing!!! You really ought to go to class bc he keeps it entertaining and will give away answers to the exams sometimes. Tells hilarious stories and really gets you excited about the material. Anyone who ****es is just bitter bc they did bad. Hes great!
Easy class and King is a blast! He is hilarious. Just go to class and study your notes. Very enjoyable class.
He is the man. Best professor at CU. Take him
Dr. King is amazing. He always keeps class interesting and always has the best stories to tell. He made me want to get up early to go to class. His tests are pretty easy if you study your notes.
Taking a course from King is a MUST! He is a passionate and fun professor. Attending lectures are always entertaining and interesting. Before exams he'll have review sessions, ATTEND THEM! He gives away a lot of the answers to the exams.
Hilarious, awesome teacher. Take his class
King truely is one of the absolute best professors at CU. I don't think I've ever heard a teacher tell so many hilarious stories in one class. It brought me to tears more times than I can count. The reading is very do-able (120 pages every 3 weeks) and tests are easy, but be sure to listen to lecture as he often reveals test questions.
best teacher ever, so funny and makes you want to go to lecture just to watch him and hear him speak
Great Teacher
Brett is by far my favorite teacher at CU. If you go in and talk to him, he gets to know you really well and will help you out on your grade. If you don't take a class with Brett before yo graduate CU, you have not experienced one of the best professors the University has to offer!
Dr. King keeps a database of sociopaths included on his facebook page. Among these deviants, is featured his arch nemesis Professor Joe Berta. Brett says that he is in a rap song by Kanye West and Common, however everyone know this is a filthy lie and that brett has a secret inner drive to be accepted as a Hip Hop legend to get a book deal.
Yes, he tells stories in class and they are often hilarious; however: he writes exams only with an eye towards rote memorization and NOT towards actually learning and applying the material. He also lets class out early every single day. I appreciate his energy and earnestness but I don't feel like I'm learning as much from him as I could be.
Brett is a funny professor that keeps the class engaged. great way to start of psychology at CU. Tests are easy if you review lecture notes and key terms in the book.
Best teacher i have ever had at CU. Of all the classes, he is the most interesting, he shares stories and makes class interesting and funny. 100% recommendation for this teacher.
Great teacher, great class. It's a good but fairly easy upper division psych class if you need more credits.
Really entertaining. Good notes. Material is really easy. I wish it was a little more challenging
Seems funny at the beginning of it all, but once the novelty has worn off it's excruciating. Class was easy to the point of boredom, the only reason to go to class was b/c he tests on the stories he told. maybe fun for freshmen who have never heard a teacher swear in class, but it gets sad and repetitive. recitations are mandatory and pointless
LOVE this professor! I waited to take this class with him all my friends said he was the best and he is! I did very well in the class. Minimal book use. tests are fair he tells u what to study. He is very enthusiastic about Psychology and his wife's a Psychologist too. Made material easy to remember. Took the course in the summer,Let us go early.
Such a great class. He was one of the best teachers I have had so far. He is so funny and if you actually go to class you will be fine for the tests.
Funny guy
King is the cockiest person you will ever meet. And don't expect him to answer emails or even care about you unless you are one of his "pets." He changes his mind even if you agree on something with him. And he is terrible with communication. NOT WORTH THE HYPE.
He is a funny and nice guy, however his stories get in the way of the content needed to know for class. It would be fine if he clearly related them to the content but some are straight up tangents. He's a little bit full of himself. Berta is better.
He is amazing. He is funny and very inteligent. He takes the time to answer your questions during and after class and is always happy to chatt with you. He doesn't answer a lot of emails because he teaches over 1000 students, but take the time to go to his office or approach him before or after class and he will be there for you. Love The King.
Hard to get an A. Don't take a class with him if you are a freshmen or take him if you want to do poorly in other classes as this class will take up most time
I'm a good student and out of all of my classes, this is the one I had the most trouble with. Dr King is very entertaining, don't get me wrong, but he's so entertaining he deviates from course material but expects you to have through knowledge of it for his tests. He also relies equally heavily on textbook and lecture, which takes more study time
King is the man! I absolutely loved coming to social psych lecture! It's a simple class and King makes it very enjoyable. The tests are straight-forward and if you study, you will be fine! Great class taught by a wonderful professor! I loved it! Definitely taking another one of King's class!
Social Psych- Often times we don't cover a lot because he takes so much time to tell stories. He's funny but sometimes I'm ready to move on and learn. Read the book, it helps a lot when we don't get through a lot in class. He gives freebies all the time in class so I would attend as much as you can. Good class, I'd say average grade is a B
Hilarious. Go to class and you will do well.
Dr. King is wonderful! He's funny, entertaining and a great professor. He always gives out freebies for the test in lecture, so it's always good to go. The course can be challenging, but if you talk to him, he'll help you out. He's very intelligent and one of the best professors at CU.
Excellent professor! He is so funny and ties his stories in so well with lecture to help you to remember the material. Class time flies by--he's really a professor/stand-up comedian. Go to class and read the book and you're golden.
History of Psych sounded monotonous and boring before enrolling, and although it's not the best material, King makes it interesting. He is just an awesome guy, and now the class is definitely one of the best ones I have on my schedule. One of the best teachers at CU hands down
Dr. King is hands down the best professor at CU. If your smart you will build a relationship with him and take all of his classes. He's so personable and unlike most professors he actually cares about his students and wants them all to succeed.
Dr. King is absolutely amazing! The course, if not taught by him would have been extremely boring! He has the ability to make dry material very entertaining! I think he is one of THE BEST professors I have ever had the pleasure of having class with EVER in CU!!!
Go to class and you can't help but learn the material. Dr. King is a brilliant professor and made what I expected to be a dull History of Psych class amazing.
not a good teacher. material is easy enough to get by but doesn't teach what is actually on the test
I have had Dr. King for my entire freshman year for both general and social psych and loved him for both. His powerpoints are extremely helpful and clear and his lectures are interesting and worth going to. Go to class because notes from lectures are very important! Definitely my favorite professor I have had this year!
One of the best professors I've had. Very knowledgable about what he teaches and his tests are fairly easy as long as you pay attention in class. He makes class interesting with his stories and he is hilarious.
He is a very animated professor, that attempts to make lectures interesting. His exams may have questions ambiguously worded, or contradicting the text (making it hard for an A on this course). He is knowledgeable about general aspects of psychology, but sketchy with scientific details on neural chemistry and anatomy. Overall a decent professor.
Awesome teacher! He's funny and keeps you engaged. Social Psych was one of my favorite classes. Attendance helps a lot with tests for his class! I would recommend social psych with King to non psych majors as well!
Really great teacher! He is very helpful in office hours and teaches the material enthusiastically and in a very clear manner. Anyone, psych major or not, can take his classes and succeed! Sad to see him go at the end of this year.
Brett King changed my life. He is an amazing professor and a very sweet guy. I was bored with my psychology major until I took classes with him. Even though this class seems boring his stories and enthusiasm make up for it. You need to read what he tells you for the exam and pay attention in class, but he gives a lot of freebees for the exam.
Was an amazing professor
Such an amazing and great professor. By far one of my most favorite professors at CU! He was great at keeping students engaged in the material and really great to talk to in person if you were struggling with certain concepts! This was my second class that I've taken with him and he is truly inspirational.
He was pretty awesome, makes it really easy to remember information and gave us answers to over half the midterms in class. Makes you buy his ridiculously expensive textbook though.
Professor King was a great teacher! I would highly recommend him to anyone interested in psych classes. He tells so many funny stories I almost felt like I was watching a comedian for class. Attendance is not mandatory but he puts many questions on exams that about the stories he tells so I recommend going. Great teacher really!
Professor King was hands down my favorite professor of all time at Boulder. Super fun and quirky dude. Its a bummer he retired because I would've LOVED to have been his TA. Most inspiring man in psychology.
Amazing teacher!
I took History of Psychology this semester and it has been definitely (if not my favorite) in my top 3 courses at CU. Learned a lot, and the material was really interesting. Great course if you like to teach yourself with a textbook. D Brett King gave great feedback and was very helpful whenever needed.
He is funny and likes to tell stories, but he also has a definite side of him that is jerk-ish and vindictive. His objectivity is questionable. Tests aren't bad.
Very fun professor! Gives lots of funny examples that make concepts easy to understand. He can go on some pretty long tangents, but they are entertaining so I never complained! Lectures not mandatory but he gives hints/heads-up for the tests, plus he's funny, so definitely go to them.
Literally best professor I've had in college! Has really riveting lectures and is so interesting. Attending class isn't necessary to pass but honestly I enjoy the class so much I want to go. Such a great teacher and person, he has helped me both in and out of the classroom when I was struggling with other things. 10/10 recommend
You're graded solely on tests - no assignments or even attendance points.
Dr. King makes you want to go to class. His stories and examples are funny, but also pertain to the subject material. You'll want to go, not only because his lectures are fun, but he also gives tons of hints and freebies for his exams. The only testing is 4 exams, including the final (which isn't accumulative). No pop quizzes. Highly recommend.
King is the best prof ever. my hour 15 lecture went by so fast and he's so funny and jokes around. Doesn't post slides online so go to class for lecture exam questions. Book and exam are there pretty equally on exams. I went to class most of the time and studied and got a B+ in this course. Would definitely take again!
He is amazing and very straightforward. I would take any class with him for the professor.
Great Class
King was great! His class was always super interesting, and he always made the lectures funny. I can't think of one, where I wasn't cracking up. He is super helpful and clear. Make sure you go to lectures and you definitely have to read the book! Wonderful psych class. I would definitely recommend it!
Brett is awesome. He is hilarious and super down to earth. He makes his lectures interesting even if the content is not. I always look forward to attending his class.
My favorite professor so far. So funny and a great teacher, he wants his students to do well and is very easy to work with.
My favorite Professor so far. He is good at telling stories and make the lectures interesting. I learned a lot from him. It would be a regret if I didn't take his class.
King is one funny guy. His lectures are extremely enjoyable and his tests are not hard. If you want to do well, read as much of the chapters as you can handle and go to class. He gives exam freebies on the reg and is such a cool guy. Go to his office hours and talk to him, even for 5 minutes! You won't regret having him for a prof! :)
The funniest teacher I've ever had. His lectures are amazing and he keeps me engaged the whole time. Take his class.
King is a king! His lectures never bore me; he's funny and engaging. Take advantage of office hours and you'll get a boost on your grade thats for sure. His notes and lectures are clear and organized, and his tests are pretty straight forward (textbook is optional). Definitely my favorite professor so far, and I'd absolutely take him again.
Awesome guy really funny and he cares about his students. His class is quite interesting and enjoyable!
If you can take a class with King, DO IT. He rocks.
King is an awesome professor. He's hilarious, provides great stories relevant to lecture, gives a ton of hints as to what is on the exams, and the only grades are the four exams. You must go to class, however, and must read the book. But he makes the topic fun to study, so it's not hard to get through. Would definitely take him again.
One of the best professors, if not THE best professor I've had at CU. He makes everything interesting - and his class is easier, yet I've learned the most material in it. LOVE HIM!
His classes are amazing. He is by far my favorite teacher! He's hilarious and makes you want to go to class. Tells lots of stories and makes it easy to understand class material. no clicker questions. However, the only grades are the 4 test but if you take notes you will do fine.
King is one of the best professors I have ever had. His lectures are super interesting, I always looked forward to going to class. His tests are pretty straightforward but read the textbook. I recommend visiting him in office hours, he strikes up amazing conversation and is so inspiring, he really cares about his students. Take his class!!
King's class was easy - if that is what you're looking for take him. His tests were 30% reading and 70% lecture. Lots of test answers given. That being said, he often tells stories (hilarious ones) over half of the class and if you're very passionate about psych and learning, it can be frustrating to feel like you're not learning anything.
He likes to tell stories but his lectures and tests are very straight forward. He really cares about his students. Definitely my favorite professor at CU. If you have the chance to take his class, do it.
Took PSYC 2606, attendance "not mandatory" because there are no clicker questions. Grade based on 3 exams with material from the lecture and from the book. Super cool guy, hilarious, makes going to lectures more fun than stressful.
Dr King is the best professor I've ever had. He makes lectures so fun, I've met several students that aren't even enrolled in our class but show up just because he makes class so fun and interesting. You do have to show up to class in order to access the material but it's totally worth it.
Bad disability accommodations. I sent my paperwork at the start of the semester AND talked to him about it. First test was fine but the second he didn't have a place for me so I waited for an hour and then didn't get a desk so I took the test in my lap. I emailed to ask about the 3rd test and he said I need to bring my paperwork to get accommodated
Great professor. I love going to his lectures but his tests are unnecessarily hard. Though he does tell you specifically what will be on the tests by chapter, he picks very specific questions from hundreds of pages of reading.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!!! He's so cool, makes the material easy to learn, tells the best stories! Treats you like an equal, his lectures are so interesting, and barely any homework. AND HE KNOWS HOW TO HYPNOTIZE PEOPLE!!
He made History of Psych so interesting! No clicker questions, but if you don't go to class you won't get the material. He makes going to class fun with his stories, and they helped me remember the material better. Tests are difficult, but if you study for a couple hours and go to lecture you'll pass with an A or B. Social psych was great, as well.
He doesn't care about his students, as he is so unhelpful and never responds to emails (and neither does his TA!). The first exam average was a 70% which is HORRIBLE for a psychology course. His class is 100% exams and 60% of the material is stuff from the book as opposed to his useless lecture where he spends all of his time just telling jokes.
Dr. King used profanity a lot; at times it felt unprofessional and cringy. He also got sidetracked and missed material for the exam, and left it up to us to read a fairly dense textbook. When he lectured on the material, he made it interesting and engaging. He missed 3 classes, and never replied to any emails. Didn't take his job too seriously.
His lectures are really funny and he's a good storyteller but he gets so side tracked that he doesn't ever cover half of the material on the test in class. He's a better comedian than he is a professor. The tests were then super specific on things from the reading while glossing over a lot of the material we did go over in class.
Hilarious and puts on a show every lecture. He's very welcoming and friendly, and I was never shy to go talk to him.
I like him as a person, but as a professor, he was awful. The lectures can be entertaining but he gets off topic and misses important stuff that is needed on the test. You must read the textbook or you will fail. Doesn't post his notes online so you have to attend class and never replies to emails. I attended most classes and still had a tough time
Dr. King is a very nice person, and makes lectures interesting, however he does not post lectures online, so attendance is mandatory. The book is heavily used on the tests, so make sure to get it. Tests are really easy as long as you prepare, however they were worth 100% of your grade, so make sure you study!
Very nice guy but not a very effective teacher. He treats lectures like a stand up routine which can be funny sometimes but other times it is just frustrating when you want him to move on and explain the material. The book is incredibly boring but 100% mandatory. If you don't read the book you will not do well. Also never responds to email.
He doesn't post the lectures online so you have to go to class, but he makes the lectures super fun because he's hilarious. He also doesn't make study guides but the tests are pretty straight forward if you go to class and pay attention. Brett is super understanding and respectful so if you ever have a problem go talk to him!!
Dr. King's class has been my favorite so far!!! Even days when I was feeling sick or didn't plan on going to class, I went to his because I always left feeling better. I guarantee you will laugh EVERY lecture and the hour will seem like a solid 15 minutes. He loves what he does and comes to class every day with a smile on his face. Great guy!
If you have the opportunity to take a course with professor King, I highly recommend it! He genuinely wants his students to succeed and makes learning psychology fun. He provides clear and helpful feedback and his exams aren't difficult if you study.
He is easily one of the funniest teachers I have ever had! A really great guy who has many years of experience in his field. I wish he could teach every psych class at CU.
King is one of my favorite teachers I have had, he is an amazing prof and wants students to succeed. He had a lot of family emergencies in the semester I had him but still showed up positive and ready to teach and hated missing class for any reason. Very funny guy with really entertaining lectures. Made me interested in learning content.
Dr. King is the best professor I have ever had at CU. Other reviews are saying you don't learn anything from his lectures.... I took a summer course with him and I have never learned so much in one class. His lectures are interesting and information rich. He makes the material relatable and easy to understand and he is absolutely hilarious!
Awesome teacher, very approachable, very inthusiastic about his work. Overall a great teacher
Hes awesome
His lectures and the material are both super interesting and engaging. He is so funny and like others have said, very passionate about the subject, which makes it even better. Tests are pretty easy but you do have to read the textbook.
This class is boring. King does not stop talking the entire class and we only get through about 2 slides per class because he for some reason thinks he is wildly entertaining when he's not(also seems like half his stories are made up). Also he doesn't put his slides online so when we don't get through lecture we have to teach ourselves the material
This class was really easy and entertaining. All of the tests are based on the reading, and most require examples which can be taken straight from the textbook. This class does involve a lot of reading, but if you do it then it is an easy A.
Dr. King was one of my favorite professors. He is hilarious and makes the lectures feel like a stand-up show (really). Participation matters. King will cut you slack if he knows you are engaged and show up to class! He is a great guy and professor all around.
Lemme tell yall about this man right here. First of all, dudes hilarious. Ive never actually enjoyed a lecture until this class. He makes the topic interesting and entertaining. The powerpoint slides werent lengthy and taking notes was easy. The tests were also a cake walk if you went to class and read: minimal studying. I highly recommend
It's true, King is hilarious. You'll most likely leave every class having laughed at least once. While sometimes he gets off topic, he usually finds a way to connect it back to lecture which actually helps you remember the concepts in the long run. GO TO CLASS, he gives you a ton of hints about what will be on the exam and doesn't post notes online
BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD!!
Honestly King is my fave prof at CU. He's so funny and makes his stories relate to what he's teaching. History has never been a great subject for me but he still makes it interesting. I took him for social last semester and knew I wanted to take him again. READ THE TEXTBOOK! I'd say the exams are about 70% lecture and 30% textbook based.
Brett King is a teaching GOD!!!!! There isn't any professor at CU that is more engaging in a large lecture. Homeboy could be a stand up comedian. A brilliant, inspiring, and beautiful man. Dude cares about his students and wants everyone to become millionaires. Brett is like Tom Brady, Wayne Gretzky, and Michael Jordan. Dude is the G.O.A.T.
I loved social psych with King. Super interesting lectures and lots of funny stories. Tests can be a little difficult if you don't read the textbook, but he makes that clear at the beginning of the semester. Come to class and do the readings and you'll be fine. One of my favorite professors!
I really loved this class, King is such an amazing professor plus I only went to class because HES FREAKING HILARIOUS, passing was just bonus, his class is easy when you show up to class he always gives Friday away a question that will be on an exam. Overall great class and even greater professor
He is so nice to people. He helps you a lot!
By far one of my favorite profs! His tests come from the lectures and he always offers "freebies" so its important to go to his classes because those freebies are basically free points on the test. His class is so fun, I ended up taking Social Psych with him! Get ready to read as well because sometimes they also prove to be helpful.
Brett King is hands down the best professor I have ever had! He is so charismatic and yes you have to go to class but I never felt like it was a task. He is very engaging and made his class very interesting and fun to learn.
Found this professor inappropriate with his humor and language. Definitely suffering from a huge ego and delusion of grandeur. Not a fan.
Dr. King is an exceptional teacher. He's extremely charismatic and engaging, and clearly wants his students to succeed. He puts in a lot of effort in lecture to make it fun. When students do any more than the bare minimum they are rewarded, but the grade you get in the class always feels earned. The tests aren't very hard.
The absolute best prof at CU. Lectures are hilarious and informative. The lectures aren't mandatory but you will want to go because it's basically a 50 minute stand up show. This man was born to teach and genuinely wants students to succeed (something which is unusual at CU). WE NEED MORE PROFS LIKE KING.
professor King is like a narcisist. He puts on a show and laughs at his own jokes rather then really teaching. He dropped the f bomb alot which was not professional. I do not recommend taking his class, find another teacher if you want to take social psych
Dr King is full of himself! He doesnt care about his students! He tries to put on a show and actually thinks he is funny as he makes up stories instead of teaching! Time to retire!
One of the best professors I've had. His lectures are super entertaining and interesting. You don't have to show up, but the tests are lecture-heavy. There's also an opportunity for 10% extra credit, so definitely worth it.
Dr. King is one of the best professors I ever had; he tells many funny stories and gives excellent examples, which makes classes so much approachable and understandable. He gave a lot of extra credit opportunities as well. On the downside, he teaches so many classes at once, that it is hard to get in touch with him via email.
Don't get me wrong, he's a great guy. That being said, I would never take this class ever again. Honestly he's an inefficient professor, making easy material unnecessarily difficult on tests. His tests are also horribly written and do not accurately test if you understand the material simply because they are worded so horribly. Very frustrating.
Brett is one of those professors that makes you want to go to class, his stories are insane. Half of the information is covered in the lecture, the other half is from the textbook, and these tests can be HARD. Get extra time if you can. There are 3 main tests plus the final, plus discussion posts. He can be very accommodating so ASK!
Dr Brett King needs to retire! He is an egotistical, self indulgent person that thinks he is funny. I did not learn anything from him. Graded by few things, test heavy. I dont suggest anyone takes his class. If you need social pysch try a professor that actually teaches.
By far one of the best professors I've ever had. Gave many opportunities for extra credit, tells you the material that he is planning to put on the exam, and all of the homework quizzes are online. If you attend his lectures, you will do well in the class. I never read the textbook. His lectures are entertaining and he is hilarious. Highly recomend
Dr. King is absolutely amazing. He tells great stories that relate to the material and they add a lot of value to his lectures. He really cares about his students and is there to help.
Professor King is funny yet it seemed like he made up stories as he went. I didnt feel I learned well because he was a comedian and cussed verses actually teaching things. He tests were poorly written and too much material tomemorize with no study guide. Not a fun class as it could have been
Best professor at CU! Makes you want to go to class.
Dr. King is hands down my favorite teacher that I have ever had. He is extremely funny and has a tremendous amount of stories that he effortlessly interlaces among his lectures. He tells you exactly what you need to know for the exams and how they will be formatted. I looked FORWARD to going to his classes (coming from a queen of skipping).
He has a good personality. Course is 4 exams & 3 discussion posts. I was discouraged that all he did was post short videos of him lecturing on youtube instead of zooming. It also doesn't cover much so you have to read up on the other content in the book for the test. Tests are fine with m/c and short answers. Tests you on the case studies as well
My favorite professor so far! He is hilarious and very clear about what determines your grade. This course is made up of 4 exams and 3 discussion posts. Make sure you read the textbook, as that is really what cleared up some of my questions and some of the stuff on the test he does not lecture on. Make sure you watch/attend the exam reviews!
Great storyteller and engaging lectures. Course content is clear and exams are structured as he says they will be.
Dr King really needs to retire! He thinks he is so funny yet at times he is not. He cuses a lot and drops the F bomb often. His TA's are the worst. His TA's often grade with the wrong answer key so If you take this class ALWAYS verify your grade is correct! So not impressed!
Dr. King is really nice and fun. He tells a lot of stories that sometimes caused us to get behind which I didn't love (but I'm boring) but he clearly cares about the subject and the students and wants everyone to succeed. Make sure you read the textbook, a LOT of the exams come from the textbook without being mentioned in lecture.
Dr. King is an amazing person. Im a psych major and social psych isnt my favorite, but I loved just listening to him tell stories. You definitely need to read the textbook because a lot of the exam material is in there. He also provides extra credit opportunities. Hes coming out with a podcast soon and I cant wait!
His lectures are super interesting and engaging. He really knows how to keep a crowd entertained and makes it so that class isn't boring and it makes you want to go every day.
Great teacher. He gives engaging lectures, and every unit is intriguing. My only critique is your grade is heavily dependent on midterms and the final. You can do every assignment 100%, but if you do bad on exams your grade can go down significantly. He truly cares that you understand the content. Overall I woke up every morning excited for clsss
King is an amazing lecturer with a ton of interesting stories and experiences that relate to the material. He is hilarious and really cares about his students. Definitely read the textbook if you want an A because about half of the test is from textbook reading. The exams are easy if you take notes in class and read the textbook.
Love this professor. He made the material fun and interesting to learn
Dr. King is a great professor. You do need to attend his lectures as that is where 90% of the test material comes from and he doesn't post recordings of the class (only outlines), but his lectures are entertaining. I didn't find any of the exams or few discussion posts to be too difficult at all and there is basically no homework at all.
This class was very interesting, and Dr. King made lectures funny and relatable. There weren't a lot of grades other than exams, so getting a high grade could be difficult if you mess up on one exam. Test questions came directly from the lecture and the textbook so they weren't too difficult.
Dr. King is hands down the best professor I have ever had. His class is what made me decide to add a psych major. Lectures are interesting and all the test info is on them. Lectures are like stand-up. Was extremely helpful with issues I was having with the psych major outside of class.
I really liked King and the class. If you need this class, I'd highly recommend him if you can get a seat. Wish I had taken more of his classes.
Dr. King is a literal KING. If you have the opportunity to take a course with him TAKE IT! He is a professor that is for the students and will do anything to make sure his students succeed. He truly cares about us students and is extremely lenient when it comes to 'life' matters getting in the way of school. He is absolutely amazing!!!!
Super nice guy! he's very enthusiastic about teaching psych after all these years. I had a great time listening in to his lecture and would absolutely recommend it to other students interested in the class.
Dr. King is a really great professor. He is very passionate about psychology and his lectures reflect that. He is funny and always has fun stories to tell about the topics we are learning. He communicates very well about any changes in plans and has clear deadlines. Even though General Psych is though of as quite easy, there is a lot of reading.
Doctor King is my favorite professor I've had at CU so far. He puts his all into his lectures and gives real world examples for the things we talk about in class. Even despite some tough personal issues he's been an amazing professor.
Absolutely outstanding professor and human being. This man has a lot of passion for psychology and it reflects in his lectures. Make sure you read the textbook as that is where he gets questions for the exams. TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS MAN. THE UNDISPUTED AND CERTIFIED GOAT OF PSYCHOLOGY.
Dr King is a great professor who is very passionate about psychology! His lectures are engaging and he always adds funny stories and real life examples. Tests are written well and not too hard if you read the textbook.
Incredible professor who is both engaging and hilarious through his use of personal stories from his life and stories told to him by students used to explain topics in class. Incredibly funny and has an inspiring passion for psychology.
Love him. Great lectures that keep you engaged and make you want to go to lecture even if it is not mandatory. Go to lecture though because he tells you what is going to be on the exam. Exams are not bad if you study, they are online. Weekly quizzes that are not bad if you read the textbook. Best professor I've ever had, take his class.
The lectures felt more like a b-line comedy show than lecture. Dr. King cracks jokes and tells unrelated stories more than he actually teaches content. He presents the class as if it is easy and not too serious. However he grades unfairly and way too strict imo. But if you want to laugh instead of learn I guess he's your guy.
One of the best professors I've ever had. He has very funny and engaging lectures and also makes everything accessible online if you don't want to go to lecture.
Dr. King is an amazing professor. He loves the history of psych and that's easy to see. He teaches class like he is telling a story and keeps you enraptured in the content in a fun way. The class is lecture heavy, but as long as you go, you have nothing to worry about.
King is the only reason that I took this class. He is the best professor I have ever had! Did a great job teaching about women and other races in psychology. So kind and his lectures are hilarious and super interesting.
Really funny teacher and is really engaging during class. Class does go kinda slow in a bad way but overall theres not much work to do besides readings and quizzes every week.
Dr. King is an icon. Fantastic class, very educational and entertaining. If you go to class and half pay attention (which is not at all laborious) you will get an A.
Professor King is the best!!!!
I thought he was pretty good. The class didn't go into much detail because it's just general psych. I feel like I knew a lot of stuff that we covered because I took psych in high school. He's a good guy.
made me fall in love with learning again tbh :)
This was my favorite class this semester! The lectures were engaging and the homework was manageable. I recommend starting the psych study requirement as early as possible. The exams fit the lectures and homework. Definitely recommend showing up to class, it's worth it in the end
Nice guy but the exams, the only things that really affect your grade, are very vague and the questions often seem unfair and unrelated to the course.
Dr. King is super nice + funny! I took him partially in person, but then had to switch to online due to health issues. In person: He uses the slides + explains using jokes, questions, + real world examples for students to remember. Both: Read the textbook it will be on the tests! Online: More writing assignments, but they are not difficult.
this is now the third class i've taken with brett because i love him! honestly, he seems very ready to retire, so i'd try to take one of his classes asap. i will say you aren't graded off much, just 4 exams, 2 discussion posts, and some playposits (recorded lectures) throughout the semester. but his exams are fair and lectures are interesting.
Dr. Kings attendance isn't mandatory, but I attended almost all his lectures because he has the most entertaining lectures at CU. He doesn't assign busy work, is very understanding, and the only homework is an occasional discussion post. Definitely recommend!!!
King was great. He didn't assign hw unless it was a discussion. Many exam questions come from textbook reading which he doesn't lecture on. Readings are a tad heavy but if you split it up throughout the unit there's no problem. He lectures in a captivating way which helped me remember information and he truly cared about educating us. Take notes!
Such an awesome professor makes every class engaging and fun. Feels like you are at a stand-up comedy show while learning.
By far one of the best professors I have had at CU. He is so caring and funny during lectures. Exams were all online and we had like 3 discussion posts but they were easy and from the textbooks. Attendance isn't required but I would recommend going because it was always entertaining. He also gives you hints for the exam in class. I LOVED HIM!
Brett is entertaining, Ill give him that, However, he is arrogant, full of himself and makes up stories as he goes along. The PhD fellow helping him grade papers graded a lot with the wrong answer key and gave everyone wrong grades. Had to dispute it to get my grade changed correctly. He needs to retire as he is not caring. So unimpressed.
I love Dr. King. He was so amazing and engaging. He was also great at relating concepts to real life events and his slides were perfectly organized for note-taking. The work is easy and fun to do. I also would stay after class and chat with him at least once a week and he was such a great listener and gave great advice!
Great professor! Loved his stories. Exams are online and open-note. Go to class since he gives hints to what's on the exam.
