Takes a while to take the first test...but he is a good teacher. He knows his stuff. Great personality...very personable.

lectures from the book, tests from the questions at the end of the chapter.
I have had him for 3 classes and he is horrible. Too bad he is the only teacher for cell and modern. Run screaming if you have to take him. He makes people feel stupid and embarrassed in class to make everyone else laugh. He is such a jerk and a ****!!
Flip flops, fish shirts, late most mornings. Writes alot. Study and you will do fine.
Intelligence is sexy and this man has plenty to spare. Those fish shirts are hiding something exciting.
This is a very hard class. He doesn't make his own test and they are extremely hard. I study ALOT and I hope for a "C".
Spoon Feeds You! Definitely reccommend him to take!
He gives all the notes, so i never bouhgt the book. His tests are a lil tricky, so study hard. He seems to live in his office. Always helpful with questions, always in a good mood. How many fish shirts does he have??
He gives TRICK questions!!! ugggh.

He sucks. I thought Wynn was the hardest teacher, but he make me miss her!!!
You will do better than average if you just read the chapters and study his notes that he writes for you on the board. He is always there to answer questions at his office. I have no clue to what happen to all his fish shirts this semester.
I don't think he sucks at all! His class is definitely not easy, but he does a good job of teaching the material. I would recommend Dr. Larson to anyone taking Anatomy @ aasu.
Lots of notes, tests are not too hard. He does a lot of clinical asides and that was really enjoyable. He always seems to be running behind the labs, but it is completely possible to earn an "A". I liked his laid back attitude.
ok teacher, tests not easy, awful lab...talks way too much. found him to be very boring
Vey hard professor I have taken him twice and failed both times. I wish they would get another better professor to teach anatomy!!!
one of the worst teachers ive ever had. when you ask a question he just repeats what he just said instead of explaining. he doesnt teach he just writes on the board word for word from the book. test questions dont make much sense. he's never on time to cla
Dr Larson isn't hard, but the class isn't easy. Lots of info, he speaks slowly, so you can write exactly what he says. He's not big on time, so don't expect to get out right on time. He may not have all the answers, but he's a good teacher.
this guy's easy. tests come directly from his notes n questions are all multiple choice. never read the book
Nice guy. He does talk slow and writes alot. some pple may find this boring but at least you are able to take all the notes. He doesnt leave anything out. I made a B in his summer class. He's really laid back.

Nice guy, but not a great teacher.
Dr. Larson is a character! He writes everything on the board and talks pretty so. The tests are straight from the notes, but reading the book helps clarify the notes. Tests are multiple choice but are not easy! He does curve about 15 points at the end of the semester. I don't know if I would recommend him, but he's the only teacher for some classes
Dr. Larson teaches straight from the book, but some of the material is tough. His tests are multiple choice-but they are difficult. There is only two tests and the final so study hard from the beginning! He does curve the final grade to where the class average is at least a 75, which is very helpful. Study hard, read, and study- and you will do fine!
Nice guy. Horrible teacher. Lectures should be sold as sleep aids (he'd make a ton of money). He teaches directly from the book, but his tests leave you wondering where he came up with the questions. He would do better to make the class a little easier, then he wouldn't have to curve so much (and class might be more enjoyable).
He is the best teacher for Modern Bio. and any other class concerning the topic BIOLOGY. This man knows from top to bottom about Biology. I would say he could be the father of Biology.
I recomend highlighting his notes directly from the book during lecture. The first test I studied for in Modern- I found that the notes he gives are incomprehensible when looking over them before a test.It was better (for me) to read along in class and study the book. Also study the illustrations and the captions in the book-0very helpful!good luck!
Larson is a nice professor, but the way he deliver his information is confusing. You take all the testable info from his notes on the board which is okay, but how you assemble it together is what was frustrating to me. W/I a chapter if you wanted to get clarification on something from his notes, you had to search thru the chp. This I did not like.
HE WRITES EVERYTHING ON THE BOARD, SO TAKE NOTES. TESTS ARE STRAIGHT FROM THE NOTES, BUT IT'S HELPFUL TO USE THE BOOK TO CLARIFY THINGS IF YOU DON'T COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND IT ALL FROM THE NOTES.
He is a good teacher, expects a lot from his students. if you want to make sure youre going to learn the material, take his class. he tests dirtectly come from class notes, so if you take good notes and study them well, you will get an A. Well structured, straitforward class. 3 midterms, 1 final, 3 lab midterms, 1 lab final.
Larson's class is really boring and no one seems to pay much attention. His tests are extremely hard. He doesn't really prepare you at all for the tests. Doesn't even tell you what kind of questions to expect or anything. Just tells you "Matching, True/False, yadda yadda"
i took this class in four weeks during the summer...and it was kind of rough...but he made the subject interesting...it you take good notes and stdy...than you should do well...the hardest thing about his class is the lab.....
I'm going to assume that the person before me is joking ("father of biology"). The only reason to go to class is because he passes around a roll sheet. you can read word for word out of you text book what his notes will be. everone cheats and screws up the curve. So if you don't cheat try to avoid this class.
He reads his notes out loud, writing them word for word on the board. This is the extent of the class. The tests are so difficult, he has a HUGE curve practically every test. Wish I could tell you to take some one else, but he is the only option. Good Luck!
He tests you over a lot of info at one time which is confusing. You never get out early. His lab is so hard and is so similar to lecture I wouldn't even call it lab. He tries, but his style of teaching is not for me!
His notes are STRAIGHT FROM THE BOOK. Save yourself some wasted class time and bring assignments/tasks for other classes that need to be completed; go only to sign the roll. Be ready to read A LOT and make sure you know the subject forwards and backwards. Apparently people cheat in this class and they completely screw up the curve ....
STRAIGHT FROM THE BOOK - JUST LIKE MODERN! Go for the attendance, bring something else to do. READ YOUR BOOK! DON'T CHEAT AND SCREW UP THE CURVE! STUDY HARD AND YOU CAN MAKE AN A; BUT I RECOMMEND TAKING VERTEBRATE PHYSIOLOGY WITH COLLIER AT THE SAME TIME AS THIS CLASS!! IT HELPS TREMENDOUSLY!!
He's a good honest man. He's too smart for AASU, if you ask me. Personally, I think his exams are difficult, but it really forces a student to study harder. I learned so much in this 2 credit class. I really studied hard, and was only to get B's on the exams. I hope, he curves the grade. If not, good bye 4.0 . Oh well, Bees gets degrees too! :)
Half the questions on the tests are very tricky and he does not think so because people have his old test and make As.
How can someone have all the answers and not make an A??! That doesn't make sense! You people are just sore because perhaps you did poorly. Grow up! I never got an A in any of the exams, but still got an A for the class! He gives a ridiculous huge curve, and chances are if you study harder than the person sitting next to you, you too will do well!
Horrible class. He just writes the book on the board. He can't answer questions because HE DOESN'T KNOW THE MATERIAL! His tests are as tricky as possible. He has had the same tests for 10 years so the only people getting high grades are people with answers to the first two test, but no one has them for the final. Thats why no one got an A on the final. He is a nice guy but a horrible professor. He does curve huge, but he has to because his test are ridiculous.
I was disappointed by this class. He simply copies his notes onto the board as he reads them out loud. If you ask anything, he could either answer it, or yell at you. After a disastrous 1st test, I realized if I did the Q's in the text (sidebars and CH Reviews) I could ace the tests. You don't need to cheat. I got an honest A. Attendance matters!
He's too smart for AASU I think. For heaven's sakes, the man got a post-doc degree from Berkley! One of the best schools in the country! I know he dumbs down the exams, and still the students have trouble. I worked my ass off, studying 24/7, and I earned my A! Full time study w/ part time job. If you are dumb, then go ahead an complain some more.
I am glad he wrote new tests! Very nice professor. His tests are hard but he curves huge so it is fair. If you are lazy then switch from biology so you don't have to take his class. People need to stop complaining, you are in college so act like it.
Dr. Larson is a great Professor, but he is no cake walk, be prepared to show up and pay attention and study your butt off for the grade you want! He does curve, but he seems selective, I had a VERY high B and stuck with it, and a classmate got bumped from a C to a B...
great teacher. everything is from the notes and he uses book as a parallel for his kinda cruddy drawings. other than that he's funny as hell, but his lectures are kinda of monotonous because of the volume of info being put out. all in all would take this prof. again. GO FOR IT!!
Interesting professor. His class is not easy but If you take good notes and read the book you will get by. I have not seen how he curves yet but hopefully it will be a nice one. Very funny, makes his class fun. He is also very monotone. His humor helps break this up. However, I would not take his class again.
Extremely loud, writes obsessively on board. Take all notes, will be on test. Does not let out class early, in fact holds you late. Curves grades slightly. Lots of material in short amount of time. Rapid memorization. Uses sign-in sheet. Usually available for office hours. Overall not bad teacher, but must take notes and study in great detail.
WOW is all i can say...I have no idea where he pulls someof the questions for the tests. The class averages for the tests are extremely low, but he has a curve. After the tests he goes over the most missed on test and makes you seem like a "DA" for missing them. STAY AWAY IF YOU CAN!!! but some classes you have to take with him!
Oh...where to begin with Dr. Larson. hahaha His questions are ridiculous. Starts the class off asking " is there any questions or old business...no?...Good!" If the class doesn't know an answer he insults your 1107 professors. Very entertaining, but the class if pointless, personally don't even study for the test you'd make the same grade eitherway
Class is horribly boring and you never really know what he is talking about. When you go to his office for clarification, he tells you not to worry that you will be fine because he curves at the end of the semester. Curve doesn't mean anything, he will still give you the same grade regardless!
He is unbelievebly boring...I dont understand why he doesnt change the tests if he has to curve a huge amount so that people can pass. Attendance is mandatory, which sucks because he is so monotone. His passion is definitely not teaching. It is not fair that they don't get new professors to teach this class and Botany for all of us Bio majors.
Modern with Larson was a pain. I'm an A student, and I was getting 70s on his tests. He curved all of them about 20 points, so I got an A, but it's all complete BS. He teaches straight from the book, then asks the most obscure questions on the tests. Completely and utterly ridiculous.
well, everyone has said it. he is the only teacher for a mandatory class. his tests are completly ridiculous. he does curve, and the endless cycle of abuse continues
He teaches nothing. You don't have to go to the class just get the notes from someone and it's like you were there. What a waste of my money.
Some professors in Armstrong's Bio department seriously need to go...Larson and Thorne are two of those professors. He has no passion for teaching. blah blah blah. His test questions are soooooo long and stupid. By the time you finish reading the first 5 ?'s, you have no energy to even try and remember what you memorized from studying.
Dr Larson seems like a cool guy outside of the classroom but in the classroom not so much. The tests he gives are ridiculous after the first couple of questions you will want to throw down your pencil and give up. I do not recommend taking his class.
Just took the first test.Either he changed it or you people are crazy. It was easy!Ya he lectures from the book, but he only focuses on the most impt. stuff. He's good at it and he's funny. So you have to study.Get over it! A.You're in college. B.If you're in this class its likely b/c of a health degree. I don't want a nurse who was handed an easy A!
No passion for teaching. Took him a while back when he used the same tests over and over and over. So dishonest, unintelligent people that had the old tests, got 100s and people that actually tried, struggled and ended up with a B in the class. Thanks Armstrong, you sure can pick 'em!
1-I got an A w/out a curve and DIDN'T cheat(same as my study partners)!Try studying! 2-taking him again for 2082(easiest tests of all A&P profs)3-take Wynn(despite bad reviews, she's has a great test setup & very helpful)or Tucker for lab, not him...he's no good in lab. 4-grow up ppl! you're in college. if you can't hang, stop wasting time & money!
tests 50 mult. choice/T,F/matching straight off notes (use book for extra clarity, and some test questions). not hard if you study. sux in lab-too much info on practicals. friends who had Wynn said hers were way easier. me & all the other A students in the class studied together and didn't cheat. don't hate!
Complete waste of time. A chimp could be trained to teach in his fashion, simply copying the text book onto the board all semester long. The class average for his tests were in the 50's-60's before the curve. It's ridiculous that some one like this is allowed to teach at a university. Even with the curve my average was nowhere near a B. Go figure
This was my first time taking Larson and if I'm taking him again for Anatomy. He's very clear cut. Class is boring because all you do is copy notes off the board but that's ALL that is on his tests. The averages for his tests SUCK but he curves them all. Make sure you attend all classes because you will miss A LOT of information if you miss one day
It was awful to have to sit through his class and all you do is copy notes from the board. I never even cracked the book open because the notes on the board are the test. The only plus is he does give a good curve at the end. The best grade I got on a test was a 76 and I ended up with a B in the class.
Test averages were in the 50s but he did curve but the tests were nothing of like he taught. they were long questions and it's like u had to analyze every multiple choice answer to get the right answer and u only had 50 min to complete the test and that is even if he was on time. he showed up to every class 10 min late including the day of the test
thorough, old-school professor. He is tough, but study the lecture notes. His exams are freaking impossible, but at this point I see him as a right-of-passage for any bio major.
Tough teacher, but he grades on a curve. No use complaining about him for this class, he's the only one that teaches it! Your grades will be from 3 tests only...and there is A TON of information to study (43 pages of notes for the first one!) Good luck!
Anat 1 Lab-Must attend lab regardless of reason. Little quizzes are given weekly, which help boost final grade. 1 practical. He also gives "big" quizzes every few weeks(total of 3) these are a huge % of final grade. STUDY for these, very detailed! he also calls out the quizzes, there is no sheet of paper that he hands out..Which also can suck!
This class is required for bio majors and he's the only one who teaches it. He lectures with notes on the board and your notes will be endlessly long. Your grade is based on 3 exams and a final and the exams are absolutely impossible, but he curves them. I never cracked the book open, just read your notes over and over and over and beat the curve.
He is a VERY personable professor! Unfortunatelyyy, he is VERY tough! His tests are so challenging but he curves it majorly. The material was way over my head. I don't think it would have been if he had taught via powerpoint instead of on the whiteboard. My notes ended up being too chaotic to study by.
Tests are pretty easy. I took him for summer course. Very intense, but I study everyday which makes his tests easier. As long as you study your notes you should do good. Make sure to write everything down from the board and use your book for clarification!
Honestly, worst class I've ever taken. I didn't understand ANY of the material. The entire class period involved us copying notes he wrote on the board. Exams are EXTREMELY difficult. Thank God he curves the grades, if he did't everyone would fail the class. Class exam averages were always in the low 40s. Not a good professor in my eyes...
He writes all notes on the board. All test questions come from notes. You must be able to think critically about some of the stuff in order to answer test questions. Dry subject but he gets it done. Straight forward.Study notes and no them in and out and you will make an A.
I really don't understand why dr. Larson has gotten bad reviews. He can be a bit boring at times but he is a really cool guy and very willing to help. I never opened the textbook unless I needed clarification and if you just study the notes he gives then the tests are pretty easy.
If you're wondering why his rates are so low, you may want to take Biology 2400 to find out. He writes notes all period long (quite famous for that). His tests are extremely difficult, are test averages were in the 55s. But, he curves the exams (in the end). Don't expect a "A" its possibly the hardest class.
The syllabus is a lie. And he makes you feel stupid when you try to get a test date out of him. If you're confused its better to discuss it outside of class. He doesnt explain much. He also crams the muscle/nervous systems, eyes, and ear all onto one test. Exam 3 is Mon, the final is that Fri. We have 3 days to cram. Dont take if you want an easy A
He is by far the laziest professor that I have ever had in college. He simply does not care anymore about students. He is a tenure professor, so he knows that he can get away with not doing his best as a teacher. He knows he is just cruising and probably cannot wait to retire. Too bad he will underserve the students on his way there. Shame.
He is hard. He warns you that his tests are difficult but he also tells you what you need to do to prepare for them. He suggests doing the questions in the book and it helps. Copy his notes and when he reviews the material from the prior day make notes in margins! If you work hard you will be rewarded. I busted my butt and got an A.
Pop quizes everyday (truefalse). Oral quizes are kind of tough. STUDY STUDY STUDY! He will ask questions like "What is this feature on this bone?" and point to a piece of a bone. I found this class tough. Wouldn't take Larson again.
Larson is long winded and talks A LOT. I only had him for lab, and sometimes he spent nearly the entire 3 hours lecturing which left very little time to actually look at the material. He gave oral quizzes and practicals which some struggled with but I didn't. This did make the transition to the final more of a surprise since nothing was oral.
I personally enjoyed Dr. Larson. Yes, his lectures are long, but it's important that you write everything down that he writes on the board. Be prepared for pop quizzes and oral quizzes in lab too. If you study his notes and study the lab manual this class shouldn't be difficult.
Dr. Larson is a good teacher. His lectures are a bit long winded. His tests come straight from the notes, so attendance is essential to passing.
His lectures are long and writes everything on the board, so don't miss class. His tests are very difficult. Averages are usually in the 50-60s, but he curves the grades at the end of the semester. Overall, the class wasn't too bad. I would take a class with Larson again.
Writes notes on the board the whole time. Often shows up late and/or will go over scheduled class time. 3 tests and a final. Typically test averages are in the 50-60 range Class notes outline the textbook nicely and the quizzes online for the textbook are helpful in preparing for the exams. It is difficult but manageable. Ride that curve!
Larson is as monotone as a robot. Expect to hear his voice the whole class while frantically writing notes down from the board. Tests are ridiculous, but as others mentioned there's a big curve at the end. Go review your tests before the final cause apparently the questions were from those. Recommend for the lazy, but if you wanna learn take Demars
Don't use the book. If you suck at taking notes, you won't pass this class. Absent? You won't pass. He's monotone, but I adore his sense of humor. Very old school and dad like. Only read the notes, tests come straight from that and the handouts he gives. Don't bother with anything else. He has slow moving lectures, so study extra for lab.
Dr. Larson was a very tough and unenthusiastic professor. He would write down a ton of information on the board that was not structured so your notes would be very unclear. The tests were very difficult with the class averages in the 50s. The only redeeming value is the huge curve he puts on them. A bad experience; If available, take someone else!
Expect a quiz every day in lab, 3 big quizzes, and one practical at the end. All quizzes are oral so if you are a visual person, good luck. Everything is fill in the blank, no word banks or anything to help you out. The practical at the end is incredibly hard so good luck. Would not recommend.
Larson isn't a bad professor, I had him for lab. I had to study LOTS for this class but A&P is something you have to really study for. This course consisted of 6 pop quizzes (5 t/f q's), 3 regular quizzes (25 q's), and a final cumulative practical.
Well if you want to teach yourself anatomy this is the class to take.
Most days he was not prepared for class. He just read off the slides. I don't think he even created his own slides. His slides are not accessible outside of the lecture to review. 3 exams and one final. Attendance is checked daily. There is lecture after every exam even its only 10 mins left. He will count you absent if you don't stay. Avoid him!
Larson is a horrible professor. Throws so much information at you in class and the test are so much harder than his notes. You are only graded on three exams and a final. He was 5 weeks behind the whole semester so the last three chapters did not get taught but were still on the final. He does curve the average grade of the class to a 75.
Dr. Larson honestly isn't a bad professor. Take in mind, that he is a lecture teacher as well. So, he often teaches extraneous information that's useful in lecture, but not enough to score well on lab quizzes. You can drop your lowest quiz grade, which initially sounds promising. But on average, the class performed sub-mediocre on EVERY test.
This professor isn't a bad professor, his test just have nothing to do with what he talks about in lecture. Most of the people i talked to in my class were struggling because we would study and the test would have barely any information that was given in lecture.
Prof. Larson does not care at all about his students. As we near the end of semester we still haven't gone over the reproductive system, urinary system, and barely made it through metabolism. We did not have our first exam until about three months into semester. He also does not post his ungodly long power points. Would never recommend to anyone.
Long, dense lectures that sometimes stray from A&P I material, but he's very knowledgeable. Doesn't let you download PPTs of classes - most students were photographing the screen. Tests are HARD, but he also curves. Nice guy, but wouldn't take him again.
I took Professor Larson 2081 & 2082. 2081 we had lots of notes & tricky test. He was behind schedule, but I studied hard and passed with a B. For 2082, he was worse . The 2nd test was given 2 weeks before school ended which meant we had 3 test including the final within 3 weeks. I made a C. I studied hard , but he was unorganized.
Id never take him again. I passed with a low A but his dry humor and long lecture heavy lab classes drove me insane. He rambles about information thats not even on the test, just the information in the book is on the test. You should stay in class though even though most people leave. His slide pictures shown at the end are ALWAYS on the test.
No matter who you take, BIOL2082 is a hard class. Dr. Larson is a very average professor, and a very old school guy. You show up to class and go through 75 minutes of ppts and photos, so there is lots of note taking. He also curves the average grade up to a 75 for his class at the end. I made a 72,64,74, and a 64 on the tests and still got a B.
