Great lectures, very funny and informative about psychology, you'll want to go even thought there's no attendance, just show up every week to the discussion class, reading the book is the key, then an A is possible
he is the best damn it.....
Explains theories and points CLEARLY.... but jokes around too much... mybe its just my personal preference but this guy jokes ALOT. I found that it has been a good method of keeping sutdents awake... ALl and all i reccomend.
He explains everything very well. He does not take attendence. So he leaves it up to the students to show up. He does tape record his classes in case you do not make it. He also lets you tape record the class this to me is a real plus.
Very good Lectures, you can come to either one, manages to keep the class entertaining and informative. The TA classes and the book are key.
Breaks down the lesson and material to simplicity. He has a humorous approach to the course. If you dont pass this class dont pursue psychology, its as easy as it gets.
Excellent Professor. Explains well and have great sense of humor. Learned a lot from this class.
Great Prof. passionate about his job
Go to class, take notes, read the book, and you'll get an A. One of the best professors in the whole college and psych department. DON"T miss this chance, take this class!!!
THIS IS CLASS IS SOOO ENTERTAINING YOU WON'T WANT TO MISS IT. IT IS AN EASY, A, AS LONG AS YOU FOLLOW THE SYLLABUS. AND IF YOU LOVE TO LAUGH YOU WILL LOVE THIS GUY CAUSE HE IS FUNNY

He's a great professor.. he teaches everything with extreme detail and easiness, he makes the class very fun and entertaining... its a gret class and an easy A, you should definitely take it!!!
The Best Professor I have ever seen. He is the main reason why I became a Psychology Major, because he made it so fun and it was a field I can certainly see myself in. Very clear, organized, and funny. I just wish he was teaching other psychology courses.
Great Professor. Im not a Psych major but because of that one class have taken many other Psychology classes. Unfortunately, he wasn't the Professor. Easy A if you read the book and show up to all your TA classes. Lecture classes are ur choice on attendance but too fun to miss.
Great class, well structured, easy to stay up to date. He's a very good lecturer also.
THE BEST PROfessor a student can Have. . . For a INTRO course. . . HE made all the material so UNDERSTANDABLE, that when you get to take more advance psychology courses. . . you will have some kind of idea in ALL your Psy classes. TRUST ME. . . He teaches so well.
He was very helpful, interesting, funny and anything good you can imagine about a professor.
he is very good makes you laugh and understand the material. Great course!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent Professor! THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. He is the main reason why I became a psychology major. I even video-taped his lectures. He did not mind. He even made funny faces on purpose in front of my camcorder. I just wished that he taught more Psychology Courses. GREAT PROFESSOR!
Great professor. He uses funny and interesting stories to convey the ideas of the course.
Great
Disheveled, absent-minded, thinks he's funny but not... Just do your work and you'll be fine
He was so interesting. The only class in college that I have ever anticipated for the lectures and readings at home...crazy but true
he is very helpful to the student and very down to earth, very funny. i admire is teaching method. if you fail is course, you are not ready for college
he was really a great professor. Pretty easy to pass just make sure you go to every section and take the quizes. the readings aren't hard.
he is a great instructor. he gives examples that you do understand as he go over the VOC. great class, great prof. got an A in his class.
He is the funniest, and best psychology professor at City. He relates each concept with a real life event and makes it so interesting. Go to class you'll have fun, take good notes, you'll need it for the test.
a great professor for a freshman course, but as you come to deal w/ him later in your academic career, you'll notice how self-involved, superficial and arrogant he can be. extremely proud of getting published for work, which he admits, is done w/ one purpose - to be published. if you research under his guidance, he will take 99% of the credit.
He's pretty funny. We used clickers but he can't work the machine so he gives us free attendance. My TA was horrible, but the others are good. 3 papers to write, do the subject pool, study. easy
He posts all of his lecture notes on Blackboard and is a technological illiterate who can't work clickers. No point to attend lecture. He assigns textbook pages to read every week and gives a quiz(26% final grade) on it in the first 5 min of discussion class. There are also 3 papers(40% final grade),stats exam(6% final grade),final(20% final grade)
I had this professor 30 years ago for Psych 101 at Stony Brook. He was the best(Same professor?) The class was very very interesting and well presented. I still have my notes and remeber what the classes were about! Remember don't be blindly obedient to authority (milgram study) and you create your own reality. Concepts apply to real life.
One of the best professors I've ever had. He is also very understanding of cultural differences and is therefore a good mentor. Now, 5 years after leaving City college of NY he is one of the few I will always remember.
Aside from not been able to figure out how to use clickers he really dosen't explain anything, dosen't fallow chapter order or his own syllabus most of the time.If your taking psy 102 i suggest you take it with Bob he's much more easier and fun to take with and the TA as well :)
He's so funny and definitely makes it easy to learn.
Good professor. Really funny. Actually makes you not regret coming to class. Does the weirdest things and keeps u interested. As long as u get his lecture notes from blackboard you dont really need to buy the book
He is one of the first teacher here at city college that i had that made we want to learn something i was never interested in. but if you ever want to take Psy 102, take it with Him he is the best. but there is quizzes every week which makes you remember the things you learned, which is nice
Amazing professor! To sum it up, I'm currently a Bio major and after having Silverstein I'm considering switching my major. He is really good and my TA was amazing!
Very good Professor, clear, funny, excellent teaching skills. You can never get bored in his class.
He's an amazing professor! It is because of him that I am considering psychology as a major. He incorporates a bit of theatre when he is teaching. What that means is that while lecturing he'll perform in order to have concepts stick in a student's mind. I recommend the course and highly recommend him as a professor.
A lively professor. I never took any of the extra credit opportunities and missed around 8 lectures, but I still got an A. Got me to consider switching to Psych major, not because it seems easy, but it's really interesting. Most (not all) of what he goes over in lecture is posted on BB. Essays are easy and so are most quizzes. Lea C. was my TA :)
EXCELLENT PROFESSOR!!! I LEARNED ALOT FROM HIM. WE HAVE QUIZZES EVERY WEEK (3 MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS) AND WILL BE SIMILAR QUESTIONS FOR THE FINAL. IF YOU TAKE HIM, IT'S AN EASY A
Because of Professor Silverstein, I'm thinking of switching to psychology as my major. He makes the lectures interesting, fun and easy to understand. My TA was Alan Alva. He's also the best TA :)
Interesting class. He makes lecture very entertaining. Attendance is not mandatory and so u can read his lecture notes on blackboard but not everything is covered there on his notes. A lot of extra credit opportunity so it is easy to get at least a B in this class
Really good professor. His lactuals are helpful and he explains materials very well and Ya the funniest professor I ever had in CCNY.
i never went to class, only on the final. Super easy A, i think he curves too-wen i calced my grade i was expectin B&I got A-. final was easy, I THINK HE IS BETTER THAN BOB IN EASINESS. for bob you need to go to class and clicker attendance for the quizzes too. For bob weekly recitatizzes with 2 dropped. 4 essays&partake in psy exp.tat were cool.
Very interesting and funny professor. Keeps you engaged! He records his lectures and posts lecture notes on Blackboard which is extremely helpful. Weekly quizzes and a final. Make sure you study hard for the final because it's difficult and most students mess up on it. Other than that, this course is great!
This class should be the easiest A you can get if you put some effort into it. He posts his lectures on blackboard so attendance to his lecture isn't required. However, attendance for workshop is because there is a weekly quiz. Quizzes are based on that week's material. The expected terms to know are ALL on the syllabus. Study a little, get A.
Despite hardly attending lectures at all and missing 3 discussion classes and 3 quizzes, still got an A- with no effort. Very easy class, very interesting the few times I did go to lecture. Wish I had gone more often, very engaging and fun professor. Take this class, put a little work in and get the A.
No matter who you are, this guy will make psychology interesting! There are no difficult readings, and lecture podcast posted on blackboard in case you miss lecture. Easy to learn all the material. The class is overall easy, but its important not to take it to lightly (like I did). The only difficult thing is the final. Study and you cant fail!
Really cool professor. He keeps the class laughing so you're no bored. Very easy class too and he records the lectures and puts them on blackboard. It pays to study your notes for the quizzes because if not, it can really damage your grade. Besides that, a really fun class
Very interesting professor. Keeps the class engaged with he very eccentric but interesting examples. Presents everything clearly. I failed the class due to my own laziness and purely that. However, it's not hard to pass the class. Pay attention and do what you're there to do, and Prof. Silverstein will be sure to help you get there.
He's a really cool professor and easy to get along with. He is very clear on the concepts, doesn't complicate anything, he gives you the concepts on the syllabus so you'll know where he is and won't be confused.
He is one of the funniest professors that I've had. He makes the lectures very intresting, and even puts up podcasts if you missed the class. He briefly goes over all the material, and his personal examples are the ones that stick to you because he makes them simple and funny.
He is really funny and this helps you remember what he teachers. I've never gone to lecture, I stick to his podcasts and its just the same. Theres no reason to NOT take this class. Easy A, IF you go over your notes.
Attendance in the weekly discussion class is mandatory, but lecture isnt. Uploads all lectures as podcasts so you never have to go to the lecture. If you pay attention in lectures, there should be no reason to open the book. Very clear. Makes excellent connections to the real world. Easy A if you go to all discussion classes.
Prof. Silverstein makes the Intro to Psych course very easy. His lectures are fun and entertaining, which will teach you a lot. You do not have to go to them as he puts recordings of all of them online. There are many opportunities for extra credit & there is no reason for you not to get a good grade. Textbook is not necessary. Totally recommend!
Amazing. He was interesting in his teaching style without being uncomfortable. The lectures all get recorded and put online as a podcast. So if you end up sick, you don't have to fall behind. There were a few straight forward papers due every few weeks, as well as a weekly quiz in discussion class. There was a final exam that's easy if you study.
This professor is a great lecturer. Gives great examples of psychology in the real world. And helps you memorize scientific terms that may be difficult for some. Very engaging and inspirational. Text book is important, but if you go to lecture you will be fine.
Just do well on his quizzes get as many 6s as possible. Go to the writing center 12 free points, go to si to redo mistakes on papers. Papers if done properly should be easy A's. Attend every recitation. Try to remember all the material throughout the semester, because the final is cumulative. Other wise easy A
nicest guy around. no need to go to lecture. posts his lectures online. like literally records his lectures. just go to discussion and its a guaranteed A
AMAZING PROFESSOR! Best at CCNY. He literally gives you no chance to fail because of his very clear and hilarious lectures (which he posts on blackboard), easy short quizzes, and many opportunities for extra credit. He has a great, funny personality and always wants to help. He inspired me to declare a psych minor! I would definitely take again.
His lectures are really good; they're funny, clear, and he gives plenty of examples. Even better, he said himself you didn't necessarily need to come to class, because he didn't take attendance and he recorded and posted the lectures to blackboard. All of his assignments and tests are given by the TA's; quizzes given weekly.
I spend so much time on this class, it's a nightmare. The content isn't hard, the class simply simply requires you to be physically present for a lot of hours.
The first few weeks of the lecture were nice and clear and more importantly, interesting. But as we got midway through the semester, his lectures were just awful to sit through. He spends most of the time telling irrelevant stories and not actually covering the material. The papers were okay. I never used the book
Went to a couple of lectures and stopped going. Lectures are only 50 minutes to cover a ton of terms, but wastes 15 minutes talking about the syllabus. Not a bad guy and can be pretty funny though. Quizzes are only 3 questions, which is pretty frustrating. Unless you're really into the subject then i don't recommend it.
Dr. Silverstein is one of the best professors in CCNY. Please don't listen to the negative comments that are being posted here! He cares about the students, and gives MUCH and MUCH extra credit for people to make up points. 4 papers, 1 final and weekly quizzes. Highly recommended with silverstein! he is very approachable too. //
Quiz every week, even though it is an intro class, but it request a lot of work and effort from student. Prof seems unclear on certain concepts and would always shifts the topic. TA does not seem capable of reviewing for the class, often had different definitions for concepts that were discussed in the lecture.
Don't take this class unless you're super into psychology. Weekly quizzes, a bunch of papers and a final exam. The grading is heavily skewed towards the quizzes, they contribute way too much towards your final grade. The syllabus/assignments are needlessly complicated. One of the worst courses I've taken in my undergrad.
Excellent professor, highly recommended. He makes Psychology so interesting, and so easy to learn. I never get bored in his class. Four easy papers that you can earn extra credits by going to writing center. It is an easy A, if you take the final seriously and attend every recitation.
If you study from his podcasts you will do fine in the class, the quizzes are alright just do well on the Papers. ^_^ also i recommend Kaplan as a TA she gives good feedback!! Good LUCK GUYS
You don't have to attend his lectures, but you do need to listen to his podcasts and do the readings from the textbook. Once a week, you'll take a quiz and meet with your TA to go over the concepts for that week. His expectations for papers are clear. Rewrites for papers only if you go to at least 3 hours of SI sessions for each paper.
You don't have to go to lecture as long as you read the textbook and review his podcasts. His lectures are straightforward and actually really funny sometimes. Overall excellent professor and an easy class.
Great professor. Changed my whole understanding about psychology. I went from hating psychology to loving it. Learned a lot of useful information. Take Ayse as you TA, she is great. Essays are easy, test is cumulative but if you studied for the quizzes, then it is very easy. Best class I have taken in CCNY. Loved it. Amazing teacher, lectures fun.
I don't know why these students are saying he is great. This professor is horrible. Some professors have a knack for teaching and trust me he is not one of them. No one listened to his podcasts cause they were useless. I stopped coming to his lecture, he's so boring. Go to SI sessions, they helped me a lot or else I wouldn't have passed the class.
He made learning psychology a nightmare for me. He is the awful. Please take Bob instead!!!
Silverstein is a hilarious professor who posts his lectures online. All of his assignments are straightforward. He is easy to understand and I was able to absorb the material. 5 essays and chances to redo them for full credit. His quizes and exams are NOT straightforwards though. The answers aren't obvious, so beware. :)
He is not great. His jokes are not funny. Very disorganized, rude at times, isn't attentive to students' needs. Don't take him, didn't learn anything in his class except in SI sessions
He is an amazing professor!! take him. The quizzes can be confusing at time, so go over his podcasts and textbook. Go to SI sessions they help and he gives you extra credit. There is no way you can get lower than a B for this class, it's that easy.
Uses real life situations to demonstrate complex topics and makes it super easy to understand. As someone who didn't know anything about Psychology before hand, I feel like he's a great choice for and introductory course. He makes sure everyone understands each concept. You don't have to interact with him much since your class work is with a TA
Prof. Silverstein is one of the best professors in the world! Well yeah, there is a lot of material, so what? His lectures are super entertaining, better than Stand-Up. You would absorb the information he has given! TA would require you to know everything, but you would study it during the lecture. Material is not hard, just don't be lazy!
brett is a good professor. esay A. if he doesnt change the syllabus its 13 quizzes and drops 3. no tests and a few papers in the whole semester. lectures are recorded and he posts them online. uses real life examples when explaining concepts. definitely recommend him. he only teaches in the spring though.
This professor was amazing, he is hilarious in his lectures. The TA Matos was great too. If you participate that adds 10 points to your grade. Their are no midterms, only one final and small multiple choice questions quizzes every day. He drops three of the lowest quiz scores. His lectures are on podcasts and attendance is not mandatory for lecture
A great choice for PSY102! He uses real life examples to explain certain concepts and he can be pretty entertaining to watch. Your TA is the person that'll make the course either easy or unnecessarily difficult for you with the essays. Essay rewrite opportunities are given but you have to do 3 hours of SI sessions for them. Overall, not too bad.
Let's you know exactly what is needed for an A. Quizzes almost every week, but as long as you pay attention to lecture OR read OR go to SI session, they're easy. Follow the syllabus to a T, write papers EXACTLY AS ASKED, participate in TA's class and go to the writing center for extra credit and you won't need to pass the finals for an A.
Prof Silverstein is hilarious, he uses real world scenarios to explain the coursework better which really helps. This class is extremely easy to get an A in if you study ALL of the concepts on the syllabus (there are a lot). You get a short 3 question quiz weekly at recitation, attendance at lectures not mandatory, 4 papers + lots of extra credit.
TEXT BOOK NOT NEEDED, ATTEND ALL LECTURES AND TAKE GOOD NOTES! EASIEST A EVER!!!
Get ready to study and do lots of homework and papers, not an easy liberal arts Course but the professor makes it very interesting
The class was okay, just do well on quizzes because they have a big impact towards your grade. Also do well on the papers and there are opportunities for rewrites if you attend 3 hr SI sessions and you can go to writing center for 3 extra points. It also depends on your TA, some TA's are strict in grading papers. Lots of concepts to know!!
Prof Silverstein was great! Lectures are not mandatory (he records them and uploads on bb) 4 papers, weekly 3 MC quiz (drops the lowest 3), tons of extra credit. You also have the chance to rewrite your papers. He made the concepts very clear, gave good examples and a funny man. Take him if you get the chance!
Professor Silverstein is not a bad egg. He is very nice, Quizzes are easy if you PAY ATTENTION AND READ!!!
Too much concepts to memorize, if you want an easy course that doesn't require lots of studying and papers, don't take this one. There are extra credit opportunities but it didn't do much to my grade. This class requires too memorization just for an intro class.
What can I say, this professor is just amazing, the way he explains the class is inspirational to be honest. Note the class is a little heavy in writing but if you plan things ahead this class should be super easy.
Take Him!!!! The easiest professor you'll ever get. People who got a bad grade, either didn't study or didn't take advantage of his extra credits. He's super generous with the grading policy. 4 papers, super EASY! 13 quizzes, lowest 3 dropped. 10 homeworks. No class exams except the final.
Prof Silverstein was a good professor. His lectures aren't mandatory, however they might be helpful. He posts all his lectures on blackboard and he gives 13 quizzes total and drops the lowest 3. His papers are easy and he grades fairly. He also offers LOTS of extra credit opportunities so take advantage! You'll be surprised how it improves grades.
He's a great professor, you'll love him!
I never went to class but he posts all his lectures on blackboard so listen to all of them! His exam consists of things he said during lectures and examples. Papers are easy and there are many extra credits so take advantage of that! I recommend to study weekly for 15-20 mins so you don't have to cram study before the exam.
Going to sound goofy here, but I actually feel that he's a bit hard. His quizzes are worded oddly, so much so that even our TA expresses her concern with them. As this makes up a concerning amount of the grade, despite his (AMAZING) extra credit, still does put your overall grade in jeopardy. He is pretty cool though, and lectures are enjoyable!
Professor Silverstein does give a lot of time demanding work(4 papers, 13 quizzes, 10 homeworks, final) but it is a lot of simple work. I barely went to class and listened to the lectures he put online. questions on the quizzes and tests would come straight of things he said in the lecture. He gives a lot of extra credit which really helped..
He is a fun teacher and gives a lot of extra credit. There is a quiz every week for no reason. His papers are annoying af. His lectures are amazing, you just listen and life makes sense. The way he teaches is really understanding. he basically gives you what he'll teach each week, just create a week review on onenote and study.
excellent lectures about trams 5/5 highly recommended
Took his class on the psychology of Corn of Coblin, was great.
Brett Silverstein is a real man of the world
Never knew how much I'd love this class. Every week he shares with the class what he's read or what he's going to read and follows it up with letters. FYI he doesn't like Star Wars news, but does enjoy grabbing that gem.
He used to live in Africa
He was a GREAT MATES!
Yeah, hes pretty good.
He is great, nothing else to say.
He knows what he is explaining. He say jokes and makes the class fun. Be ready to write a lot and every week hw and quiz. Total 4 papers. 1 hw and 1 quiz every week. He is ready to help always. Too much work but you will get a lot of info from the class.
Amazing at what he does. He's so good at lecturing that you think he's just rambling in a conversation with you but then you realize hes talking about the material. Easy class, lots of paper though (definitely doable, I did them a dayor2 before they were due and did well lol). As long as your TA is good, you'll be fine. Study for weekly quizzes.
Dr. Silverstein is an amazing Professor. You have 4 papers, HW every week, SONA credit, and 1 test. His papers are LIGHTWORK and his lectures are enetertaing. Take Talia Schulder as your TA and you're good. The HW also is short and easy. Overall, the class is easy. Just do the work and go to recitation. Lecture isnt mandatory.
Silverstein honestly was a great professor for psychology 102. Kept you interested throughout and his T.A are all really amazing. The grading is very clear and not tough at all. Even though this class was not required for my major, he made me really enjoy the lectures. I definitely recommend him and I would take him again.
He made everyone particpate in class. We read a lot of articles for HW. He gave one paper and one test (the final exam). I didn't like his teaching method, we sat there on zoom and took notes while he talked. I'm a visual learner I like powerpoints. His discussions each class were not bad. I feel like I learned a lot
PSY 102 is a very straightforward class with professor Silverstein. Although he can go on tangents sometimes throughout the lectures, the professor is very clear about the assignments and how everything will be graded. He gives plenty of opportunities for you to get better scores on papers, and is very fair. I would definitely take him again.
This intro to psych was fascinatingit was easy to pay attention and commit to memory. Professor is extremely kind, animated, and passionate about every topic, which helped me care about the subject. He experienced serious health problems during the course and he continued as if nothing was amiss, which is commendable. TA was top-notch, as well.
He's amazing. His lectures are all you need to listen to for you to pass the class and understand the material. He explains concepts very well and his assignments are super easy. The papers are also easy if you do it right by following their prompt. The final exam is exactly like all the quizzes so make sure you study the quizzes well!
He is best for his lectures and extra credit
There are no clear criteria; he didn't explain topics in class, only read from his handbook copies that are very difficult to read since they are copies of articles he highlighted. one paper, one exam. Useless feedback at some point he is rude and incoherent, he changed his mind all the time refereeing to instructions or material.
giving definitions and examples in class. quiz every week, quiz is not based on lecture and very tricky. Very discouraging. No matter how well you understand the terms you learned in class. He always quizzes something different
I took his PSY class in the Spring of 2022, there is a lot of work, 4 papers, a quiz every week, easy HW every week, and then a final. Be prepare to put in the work, because there is a lot of work for this class in some ways its good because if you do bad in quizzes but great in papers you will do well. like i said get ready for a LOT of work!
This class is composed of 2 parts the Lecture and the Discussion Class (DS). Attendance for the lecture is not mandatory since it is recorded and posted on BB for the DS Attendance and Participation are required. You will be quizzed in the first 7 min of the discussion class. You are given HW every week but it is easy and can make up points easily.
This class was not easy, it was really hard, quiz every week discussion class, 4 papers, final. Idk why this dude got some many good reviews you going to put in work to get a good grade
For introductory psychology, Silverstein's lectures were fantastic; he has a great sense of humor and he consciously uses as a tool to help you remember the lesson. The workload is large, but not at all unwieldy and he sticks to his syllabus to the letter. His course is structured to give you chances to recover from mistakes like paper rewrites
He is actually mad chill and his lectures basically give you the answers based on the notes that you take. He randomly becomes hilarious throughout his lectures by raising his tone to release a sense of passion. Its very easy I think anyone can take this class and pass.
Do not miss the opportunity for extra credit. There are 4 papers and a final. He is a good person but you have to put in the work to get good grade. You gotta read book and attend lectures or listen to the recordings of the lectures he posts. He is pretty average but would be good if he starts to explain a little better.
You're better off not going to lectures. I find lectures boring, and he may be hard to hear for some people. He usually uploads the recordings on blackboard but even then, I didn't find them useful. Always try to get the homework's done and the papers complete on time. If you have a good TA then you can do good in this course.
Horrible prof. do not take for grad course. is super mean and condescending, never lets you know how you're doing grade-wise in the class and is literally unhinged. participation, finals, paper, and review of homework readings were all 25% but he NEVER uploaded any grades. he told us he's gonna upload grades after the final to not stress us.. like?
Brett silberstein, on the whole, is a great man 4.3 if I had to put a rating to the man
Professor Silverstein's PSY102 class is engaging and manageable. While there's a lot of work, his clear grading system and helpful TAs make it doable. Unstuck AI's practice tools were a game-changer for acing the assignments.
I took Professor Silverstein in Spring 2025. He's a genuine person. Participation is important in this course, since it provides you with extra credit points. Attend his lectures and the quizzes taken during class answer themselves. Your final grade is based on weekly quizzes and homework, 4 essays, and participation in a related field experiment.
