not too bad
He is extremely boring and makes you read tons each week cause there are "surprise quizzes" are take-home final is a 10 pg paper. Wouldn't recommend
This was the most boring class I have ever taken. If he tells us one more time he lives in the city of LA MESA a population of 70,000 im going to barf.Take Epps or Sullivan. There is no discussion class&even if you cared about politics you wont after this!
I have honestly never been so borred in a class in my life. Makes you buy six books which you would never need to use if not for his "suprise quizzes" worth 15% of your grade. Bad prof.
Worst class I took this semester. He supposedly present two points of view in class, but it is obvious which one he believes since he only gives arguments to one side.. avoid this class, the books are expensive and you don't learn anything but liberal shi
if you go to class and take notes then you will do fine the midterm and final are based on his lectures and the research paper is not too bad. the quizzes suck ass though
Boring class.Nice guy though. If you go to office hours and ask for help it will help ur grade on the midterms.Lots of reading. Do not take if you want an easy A.
lectures very boring, however, if you are smart enough to pick an easy topic for your papers you dont need to listen. easy grader, easy class

Lets just say you will spend close to two hundred dollars in books that will be worth a total of 5 dollars after the class. He picked the worst reading on the planet. This professor is horrible avoid him like the plague!
Of all my years in school, this was, by far, the worst class i have EVER taken. I went to class everyday and didn't learn anything, I should've put myself out of my misery the 1st wk. Never ever take him!!!
it is kinda hard to pay attention in class, but if you do you can learn a lot. take home midterm & final, both essays, and one research paper. the worst part is the pop quizzes, but other than that it's not bad! definitely don't count on an easy a tho.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER! LOTS OF WRITING AND BORING READING. WORST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN. PLEASE TRY TO AVOID HIM.
Worst professor at state. He will screw you over big time.Went to his office for help, said it was good, and gave me a "c". very "c-" happy.Worst class ever taken.Take a gun & shoot yourself in the head..i should've put myself out of my
worst teacher out there. such boring lectures. readings suck too. he does not give clear instructions on what he wants. if he does explain... he gives a lower grade. about 5% out of approx. 300 students attend class.
Great Professor..if you like politics you'll like him. he challeges you and is always there to help
This class sucks. The lectures are so boring. Most people don't even go to class. All tests are take home papers on vague topics. His lecture notes don't help much at all.
Boring monotone lecturer. Long essays and difficult random quizzes make it hard to get a good grade. Lots of long difficult readings for quiz material.
This teacher is so boring you actually would prefer to die than go to class. He is the worst teacher ever! He's a hard grader and everything about the class is a major bore!
Extremely boring...with only 3 essays making up whole grade. Tough grader too. Need to take advantage of office hours to see exactly what he wants on the essays and as lame as it is going to lecture will really help with the essays. Try to avoid.
Very boring lectures and barely anyone goes. Class grade is based on 3 take home papers. He is very vague on his requirements and what he wants out of them as well. Very tough grader, I don't recommended him.
3 take home papers. class is boring most of the time. tells you exactly what you need in your paper if you go to his office hours.
Class is boring and includes 3 take home papers. However, if you take the time to write up a rough draft and meet with him, he will tell you exactly what he wants to see in your paper. I hardly ever read and still got an A-.
Your whole grade is determined on three papers and the are not easy to write and you do not get a long time to write them
BEWARE! Awful, boring teacher! Classes are extremely boring - people actually fall asleep! Unintelligible b/c of his extremely limited vocab! Won't learn a thing because he's just not a good teacher! 2 papers and a final, not exactly fair.
Take this class for credit/no credit, and you'll be juuuust fine.
Grade is based on only 3 papers. Even though the class can be boring you MUST show up every day to do well on the final paper!
Boring. Boring. Boring. I love poli sci, and this guy is Boring.
Only take lecture notes. Only read the book if it pertains to the paper your writing. The other material he has your read is useless. Make sure after the first paper you go to class, final is based on everything after that. No lecture notes = F on final
if you dont like politis and you are just taking this class because you need it dont take it. i passed the class but i didnt learn anything dont buy the books if he has them at the reserved room just make copies.
this teacher is cute because he stutters and is crosseyed and his pants flood. kinda boring but adorable :)
Here is an evil professor who is a very tough grader thanks to turnitin.com just like Julie Sullivan. He is a lot tougher tthanks to that final blue book exam. They should sointently suspend him.
I never knew how unpopular this guy was but he is just like Julie Sullivan and Farid Abdel-Nour in a cocktail, but no one wants to suffer with this ****.
Avoid this at all cost because he is like Farid Abdel Nour and Julie Sullivan in a blender aka = a 2 for 1 special.

This teacher will make you wonder why you ever decided to go to college in the first place. A very strange Man, indeed. Extremely vague and unclear in lecture. You should not have to "get to know him on a deeper level" to get a good grade or he'll hound you.
First paper watch out (crazy grader). Remember pro, con, solutions on all papers. Does not take role, but need to come to class or get a buddy that takes good notes, cuz you won't pass the final without them. And that's for real.
Dr. Adams really knows his stuff. His lectures are so thoroughly planned and researched that it's awe-inspiring and encourages the student to either go that extra step in his/her efforts or look silly and out of touch with regard to public affairs and policy. A required course that wasn't just dog work for a change. Thanks, Dr. Adams.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!! Lecture is irrelvant to the papers and final exam. Total waste of my time like how Julie Sullivan and Lyndelle Fairlie did to me.
He makes you feel stupid for talking in class like how Julie Sullivan does to hers and he never explains anything on tests or papers because he has no choice.
Hard class! You must go to pass the blue book final. Also, follow paper prompts exactly. I had the hardest assignment of my academic career in his class. The research paper took me about 30 hours to do. Despite all this, this class reminded me of what it should be like in most college classes. I actually had to use my brain
this guy is lame. Classes were boring and i slept through all of them. I finally stopped coming because they did not help for the essays. He grades kinda hard but most of all dont go to class. He likes to look at the ceiling when he talks to the class. And you dont know if hes calling on you cuz he has a lazy eye and is looking somewhere else
You must attend class. Notes will be needed for papers. Gives to papers on issues and requires you to upload them to an anti-plagiarism site. Also, research paper which grades extremely HARD. Final is cumulative. Hard grader on first paper and research paper. Makes you feel kinda dumb sometimes.
he is pretty tough but you will learn a lot and be able to participate in state level politics with actual knoweledge! go to class, chat w/ him after class a little bit so he knows you, he's pretty cool, but go to class or get a friend for when you miss you will need the notes for the papers and final which were though but manageable. i got an a-!
2 hard essays and a horrible research paper. Gives study guide with exact questions for the final blue book exam. Brian Adams talks about nonsense like Julie Sullivan. The final is hard because he is strict on cheating like Julie Sullivan. Overall, there is no room for anything else.
Not an easy class - you have to put a lot of time into it. 2 short papers, 1 research paper, final. Not that difficult if you keep up with readings. If you try and read it all to do the assignment or to study for the final good luck! Your best bet is to stay on task & get your papers reviewed by him before you turn them it - it will help a lot.
3papers, 1 final. Go to class, you need the notes for the papers and final. Final is cummulative, but the study guide questions are the test questions. Very helpful. Bring your essay to him and you will do well on it. Reading is ok, if you do it on time, it is hard to catch up all at once.
This class was semi-difficult, with only writting assigments to determine your grade. You have to go to lecture, but the majority are on interesting topics. I skimmed the readings and did fine, but the final comes directly from lecture. Not an easy class, but it IS a 400 level course- well worth it.
I'm not a poli sci major, so pretty much everythingwas new to me. I waited until the night before each of the papers were due to actually write them, but I got a B on each of them. Adams is an okay professor but an easy grader.
Brian Adams is a great teacher and makes class interesting. That being said, this class was a captstone course for Poli Scie majors so everyone was interested in being there. Research paper, 8 weekly discussion papers and take home final. Don't be afraid if he squints at you when you talk, he is not frowning, just listening to you.
Outstanding Professor. Requires extensive readings and assigns tons of questions. However, lets you know exactly what you need to know for exams. Liberal with points. Best Poly Sci learning experience I have had in four years. Great professor.
This wasn't an easy class..but I took good notes so it wasn't bad. While I wished the grade was based on exams, grades are only from 2 essays, 1 research paper, and a VERY difficult written exam (7 short answers, 2 essays). I ended up with a B- to my suprise. I taped the notes, he doesn't have powerpoint (limited overhead, purely spoken lecture)
Class was pretty straight forward. As long as you come to class and take decent notes you'll do fine on the midterm. The only time I even looked at the readings was for the papers and the final. I didn't work too hard for this class and managed to pull out a B.
I took him when I was in grad school @ SDSU. I found out that some of the not so great professors in the undergrad level like him might turn it out just fine. Because if you have a strategy from all the other class & ask him for help during his office hrs, he is helpful.
8 total response papers to the readings. There was a two part midterm paper, 7-8 pages for each part so a total of 14-16 pages. Final was a 8-10 page paper. You write a lot, but you learn a lot. Straight lecture, go to class, take good notes, be familiar with the readings. Got a B without too much effort. An A is attainable.
Professor Adams is so very smart. He is very helpful. The key is to ask for help. He is my favorite professor at SDSU. His classes are hard but he inspires me to do well. He is a very good listener and makes students feel important.
Very easy going professor, but tons of reading for this course. You need to at least do most of the weekly readings, as everyone is expected to participate in the discussion. He is very patient and helpful in facilitating discussion for students who might be a little shy. Overall- nice guy, class a little boring, be ready to read!
Heavy reliance on readings, lecture notes only cover a portion of what he expects students to know. He grades very critically on essays and the research paper. It is very difficult to earn an A in this course. Expect a C, and if you keep up with the readings and pay attention in class, a B at best. Attendance not mandatory, but encouraged.
Professor Adams is hands down the nicest and most caring professor I've had at State. He is really understanding and if you go see him during his office hours he will be glad to listen and be as helpful as he can be. It is not an easy class and frankly, the subject is boring but if you try do well you will earn at least a B.
Interesting subject, knows alot but can be a bit boring. He grades too harsh so don't expect anything about a B. 3 papers and one cumulative test. Avoid if you can.
Extremely smart, gave me the best advice on my future career. He will read rough drafts and always makes time to help.I only got a b+ but I could've done better if I had more time. Extra credit for participation
It's a challenging class and not many students get A's. However, if you pay attention in lecture and use his office hours it's doable. He's pretty engaging in his lectures and relies on student participation. There's 2 essays and a group assignment that combine with your short answeressay final to form your grade. GO TO OFFICE HOURS!
He lectures for the entire class and it can be boring, but interesting if you like politics. You have to write two essays based off the reading and lectures. Then there is one group budgeting project that can be pretty challenging. The final is a blue book exam that isn't too hard because the study guide helps. Pretty tough grader.
Pretty much just in class discussion of the readings. Interesting discussions, but may be hard to take much from classes.
Professor Adams is very smart and knows what he's talking about. The class has one final exam which is over all course material. You will not pass this exam if you don't attend lectures. Rest of grade is from 3 papers which are challenging but he gives feedback. Great guy, would definitely take another class with him again! Cares about his students
Professor Adams has high expectations for his students. If you decide to take a class with him prepare to read as there is lots of reading assignments. His lectures are engaging and gives students the opportunity to participate. He is a tough grader but he outlines very clearly what he expects.
Brains, nice guy, but tons of reading. You need to read most of the weekly readings, as everyone is expected to participate in the discussion. He's very patient and helpful in facilitating discussion for students who might be a little shy. Overall- nice guy, class is boring, be ready to read! Very difficult to earn an A in this class. SKIP him.
It's possible to pass this class with minimal effort. If you want an A, expect to be dedicating alot of time on top of class for reading, studying, & the papers. He's a tough grader with high expectations and his lectures are boring but content heavy- so attendance isn't mandatory but necessary to get a B or above. I wouldn't recommend this class.
Only take urban politics if you are actually interested in the subject. Lectures are long and can be dull if you don't find the subject interesting. Adams expects a lot from his students and that is reflected by his grading. He is a tough but fair professor. I found this to be a worthwhile and informative class. Readings/Participation is mandatory.
Lectures were kinda boring unless you are really engaged and into politics but they were important for writing the essays. He was a pretty tough grader on the essays. Final exam questions came word-for-word from the study guide.
I was a bit hesitant to take him after reading other reviews, but honestly I think this class is pretty well set up and straight forward. Adams goes over the material with just enough broad ideas and details so that I (not a politically educated person or polisci major) am able to get a good grasp on the concepts and always engages the class.
Dr. Adams is an amazing lecturer if you care about, or are majoring in, politics. Attendance is not mandatory, but you can benefit a lot because his lectures are so informative. Essays are straight forward, but hard to get As bc he expects a lot. But if you go to office hours for help, he'll tell you exactly what he wants to see.
wow! Such a kind and understanding professor! Actually cares about our learning and out mental health. Overall such a great guy. My grade was made up of two papers, an ordinance analysis and a final. The papers were relatively easy -wrote them in two days but if you wrote them within the span of a week- youll get an A. If you care youll do well!
He is super understanding and kind! Free textbook provided by him!! Class is not mandatory and lectures are posted. Professor Adams really cares about his students. Would definitely take again.
Professor Adams is super great! The grading is made up of two take home essays, a critique paper, and pop quizzes. He is a really understanding guy and genuinely cared for our well being and success.
If you enjoy lectures, this is your prof to take. Although class isn't as easy as other GEs, he really knows what he is talking about and is very passionate about teaching it. Struggling, he'll help you out. There are quite heavy amounts of readings assigned but definitely doable. If you read and pay attention in class you'll do really well.
He clearly cares a lot about this subject. He has long lectures but they cover the material thoroughly and he never makes students feel bad about asking questions. Definitely get the book, the take-home midterm and final are heavily based on the reading. He also has pop quizzes every other week. I definitely recommend.
He is very knowledgeable and cares about what he is teaching, but during online school he did not make much of an effort to connect with students. The class is mainly run by TA's. There are pop quizzes about reading, so make sure you do it.
I like his lectures, but I didn't like that my grade depended on so few assignments. I've never liked social science because it always confused me, but I like this class because the lectures were clear, interesting, and sometimes funny. He's really passionate about what he's teaching and if you have questions, he's always more than happy to answer.
he's clearly passionate about the subject but just so boring. lectures are hard to digest and readings are constant. only 3 things in the gradebook besides the final and gives 0 feedback.
3 essays & 1 final. He's a tough grader but if you show up to office hours to improve your essays, you'll pass. The textbook is required and there are weekly reading assignments. Lectures can be a bit boring but participate for extra credit. The final was alright, but make sure to start the study guide early. Overall, very caring professor.
I learned the most I did out of my entire time at SDSU in his classes. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he goes over EVERYTHING in great detail during the lectures, which basically makes it mandatory that you go so that you take good notes, and therefore can study better for the tests. 2 midterms, 1 group project, and a final exam.
This course was really hard cuz I didn't go often, and the study guides are typically very reliant on the lectures which makes attendance (unofficially) mandatory. He is very knowledgable and although he grades tough, he gives you great feedback to help you improve. Love him sm. Graded only by 2 exams and 2 papers.
He was very knowledgable about his subject and you can tell he cares. The class can get a bit dull, but if you engage it becomes more interesting. Graded on one paper, a group project, midterm, and a final. If you take good notes the tests will be easy, and go to office hours for the paper to see what he wants.
