Boring class, but I loved taking the tests. Seems like an interesting guy. Prolly would be fun to talk to out of class.
very nice and accomodating to students needs
nice prof., lectures are hard to follow and borring for the most part because he jumps around and goes too quickly, but his exams aren't that bad and he's an easier grader!
Aldrich rocks, he is a lot of fun to have for a teacher. However, the note taking sucks, but the papers are easy, and the test are as well. just ask to take them in groups
Lectures are very hard to follow, however he usually cuts class short anyways. Group Tests...can't beat that!!
He was pretty easy, but sometimes you couldn't understand what the hell he was trying to say.
Lectures are totally unorganized, but will go on tangents about his pot smoking son, his xwife, and his sex life... TAKE IT FOR THE TEST THOUGH...group tests, no other sociology prof is that easy!
It's hard to take notes in that class, but he grades really easy. He goes faster on notes the more people talk in class. Tests are uber easy
The guys easy as hell. I got a 28 out of 50 on a test and that was a B+ after the curve, his curve makes me hot. I love that man.
This class is super easy. Just make sure you go to class everytime plus do the work, and you'll be in great shape. There are a lot of notes and the lectures are boring, but you don't need either one. If you need a class, I would reccommend this one.
he is very intelligent
It is soo easy....just do the extra credit options...he gives them out like no bodies business...plus he is a awesome guy
He isn't the greatest teacher in the world, but its very VERY easy. I hardly tried at all and still got an A! Gotta love the group tests and extra credit!!!!
very nice guy, funny too, makes random coments !!
This was the easiest class i have taken. I almost never understood a thing he lectured on because it was totally different then what was in the book, but i still pulled an A w/o a problem. Go to class and jsut being there will get you a good grade.
This prof is knows what he is talking about but sometimes you don't so ask questions he's cool and wants you to learn and when it's your major it's good to know
laid back, sometimes give unwanted info about personal life, easy A
He's a great guy, and very intelligent. I found it hard to follow his lectures because he bounces around a lot between topics and gives no intros.
This class really stressed me out. When I went in to ask for help, I didn't get any. Even though you get to take your tests in groups, the lectures have nothing to do with the book. You also have to write 5 DIFFERENT papers on the SAME topic. good luck
Didn't like this class at all. Very boring. I didn't pay much attention, but still pulled an A. The group tests are awesome. I agree with the other person who said that there was often unwanted personal stories, but, oh well.
He has too many quizzes, the reading and his lectures are boring, he trails off on info you don't need to know, you have to write 5 papers and he doesn't really explain what he wants written, the tests are group ones but they are still hard.
Easy class if you go to them all. All tests are group and open book. You write reactions in paper which are easy and quizes aren't to hard. 3/4 the people in my class didn't have to take the final because they had more then enough points for an A!!!!
Really nice guy, likes to trail off into funny family stories. He's very blunt at times. Lectures arent that much fun but the quizzes arent too bad. And group tests are fun but the test itself is still kinda hard. Fun guy and class isnt that bad, take him
This class was easy, all u really got to do is show up (and that aint really asking too much) and read a few pages each week. The papers are easy b/c he lets you fix them up after he corrects them so you can get all the points. Plus u dont take notes
Horrible professor. I learned more about his sex life than anything else. DO NOT question him, you will be on his black list for life. He multiplies the 6-point quizzes by like 17 points, so you can really screw yourself over grade wise. But tests are easy as are the in class writing assignments.
dry dry dry not a bad guy but dry dry dry
He is a smart guy that knows a lot. If you are a good student and care to learn, he will provide everything you need and help you a ton. He is easy to talk to. You just need to think sociologically to really understand the guy and his thought process. Good luck!
probably the most boring teacher you'll ever have... bring your laptops... snood and facebook are essential to get through the class period.
He is a terrible teacher and i could barely stay awake in the class. He soo boring! if you take this class be sure to bring your computer because if you dont im not sure you will survive.
He doesn't get what the hell he is teaching, and neither do we
So dam boring, bring your laptops or you wont make it through, group tests are easy, easy quizes almost every other day, not bad but extremely BORING

Take home exams and Cut out the Final b/c we went on a field trip to Minneapolis/St.Paul. He said he won't require a book for next semester and re-arrange it a lil bit, but only make it easier I would think. The the clearest in discussion, but not that bad like some people said.
Well I was a Sociology Major until I took this man's class. While watching the 13th 1960 Asian movie that was shown in this class like every other day, I seriously contimplated throwing myself out the window that was right next to me. In other words, just don't take the class.
this man is crazy! his teaching skills proved to be worthless. if you wanna take sociology DO NOT take this guy!
He is so boring! When he lectures it is very hard to follow along because he goes on tangents about his wonderful, rich, fulfilling life where he travels all over the world. I swear he just brings it up to make us college students feel poor. Take him if you wish to be bored and learn very little...
You have got to be kidding me! He just has this creepy sort of**** vibe going on. Nothing is available online, and he refuses to give you any sort of grade updates, so your grade is a compleete surprise at the end of the semester. But believe me, you DONT want to know your grade anyway. Bring a pillow to lectures, better yet, just dont take him.
He is sooooooooooooo boring! The class isn't too bad actually. Your notes are articles which makes no sense to me. And you have no idea if your paper is write or not (even when he tells you exactaly how to do it!). The good news is you can rewrite them. Bring your computer to class or find someone to talk to in class and you'll survive.
It's boring. but he's a good guy, and he makes it easy. I ended up with an A, and didn't even do totally great on some of the tests. Everything is group work!! Tests, and final are group too. The quzzies are the only thing that sucked, but they really aren't worth as much as you think. If you go to class, he does extra credit things!
i really loved health & human serv org. it was sometimes confusing, but aldrich was always there to help. hes very understanding and easy going. will be looking for more classes by him.
Social Research has never been so boring. I think I developed ADD while in this class. He speaks in monotone and puts you to sleep. Assignments are given weekly, but are P/NC and are usually pretty easy. Tests are hard, but the questions are in the book so if you read your fine. Hes just so BoRING!!
SUPER boring, but when I took him last year, he let us bring our laptops. Really doesnt explain anything, just pops in random movies. There is no homework really, but just tests. The tests are taken in groups, gives you all the exact questions, and you can use the book! Super easy.. I don't think I studied once and ended up with an A.
Great guy, ready to help, can be boring.
curves everything
The class is boring - he's super cocky and loves the sound of his own voice but he has a quiz or a wirting assignment every day and it makes for easy points but attendance is pretty much mandatory. He gives out a lot of extra credit opportunities. Bring your computer and you will make it through the class just fine.
Pretty much a lecture class, it gets old fast. You have quizzes or write-ups everyday so you must go to class. There are extra credit options: luckily since the exams are pretty hard. His class notes don't follow anything in the textbook which makes it difficult to understand what he's looking for on exams. He's not the worst but try someone else.
Very unclear, not quite sure how what he lectures on has anything to do with much of anything. Most of his lecture material is from the 80s & 90s. Go to class though because he has quizzes or write-ups everyday which are a huge part of your grade (33% for each). Study the book before the quizzes and tests and you will do just fine.
They are trying to forcce him into retirement he's so old. He stands in front of the room and lectures in a monotone voice, real exciting. He believes in jumping around so many times you have no idea what to study for.
WOW! Don't even study for the tests because its a HUGE waiste of time! They are sooo hard!! The most boring class I have every been in! DON"T TAKE!
He's absolutely boring!!! Dresses like Mr.Rogers and talks monotone. He goes off on random spurts about his sexuality. Offers extra credit because noone passes his tests.
Horrible. dont take him. he thinks hes funny and hes about 100 years old.. he talks about sex and his 5 thousand wives all the time, and thinks hes a great guy. tests are impossible and the EC is nonexistant. need to be in class every day because of quizzes and write ups.. very lame class.. bring your computer.. youll need it to pass the time
Honestly, this class was boring. I usually try and be optimistic about classes but I had to bring my computer to class so I wouldn't fall asleep. He's too smart to be a professor in an intro class. Tests are hard, but he curves a lot. I studied my butt off and got an A.
He is the worst! his lectures make no sense you have to bring your computer to class to get all the notes cuz he goes so fast and stand in the way so you cant read them anyway. Tests are impossible dont waste your time studying! he doesn't give group tests. attendence is mandatory gives a test or write up every day. DON'T TAKE!!!!
Wow, Aldrich has some pretty bad ratings on here. As long as you go to class everyday, take notes on his MAIN POINTS (you'll never be able to write everything, he goes too fast), take the quizzes and do the write-ups, and do the five super easy papers, you'll do fine. Just review notes before the test, I've gotten an A on both so far. Not hard!
I loved Dr. Aldrich. Sometimes a little difficult to understand his lectures, but overall good class.
I freaked out once i read the comments about Dr. Aldrich beofre i had him, but he isn't really that bad. Tests are a little difficult, but he offers a lot of extra credit so take that opportunity. I really didn't try hard and managed to get a B, so trust me he's not that bad!
He is a good prof and knows what he is talking about. honestly though, i had to pinch myself to stay awake. horribly boring. you need to be a fast note taker as well because he zips through those
This man worked to set up an independt study for 4 different courses that sent me around the world. He helped me set up a field experience in Morocco studying some intense stuff. Be friendly and be interested in the subject and you will learn a ton. Because of him I now am studying in Australia and Europe. Be a serious student and you are fine.
He is very boring and there is no class room discussion. If you enjoy typing all class and still not clear about what he is saying, go for it. He is nice but makes you think twice about sociology, blah. You must read your text cause he uses it for every quiz and exam.
Aweful professor. He curves so much that a 60% is an A, otherwise everyone would fail - because he can't teach. Lectures are boring and unclear. Didn't learn a thing, but still got an A because of the ONE extra credit assignment. He also needs to lose the fanny pack that he wears every day. Bring your laptop to stay awake! This class is a joke.
Nope, not recommended at all. His tests are impossible, don't expect to do very good on them, he is very scatterbrained and asks a lot of stupid questions on his tests. He offers 25 points of EC which is nice, and he curves ALOT, but still, he also has other ways to make up your grade, but i learned NOTHING!!
He has 6 question quizzes which he makes you use scantrons for. He makes me feel like I need to retake sociology. I don't think I learned anything this semester other than information about him. I attended class and hated it. If you have him, plan on writing down 1/2 of every sheet of notes and be sure to bring something else along to work on!
He drones on and on and on.....he puts up projector slides and takes them down before you can even read what they say much less write anything down. shows movies that are all in subtitles. bring your computer to stay awake. QUIZZES TAKEN DAILY!!!
The most boring class I have ever taken. Dr. Aldrich is very nice, but I don't understand a thing he teaches. Thankfully he grades on a huge curve and offers extra credit or I would have failed due to his terrible tests. I think he knows what he's talking about, but doesn't know how to explain it. He was very degrading having as a freshamn.
his voice is so boring. you take a quiz after every class, which is easy points, so just show up. his tests are really hard though, but he curves them. his test reviews are totally worthless. he's just a pain. avoid him if possible
He is sooo boring. I don't think he even fully understands his lectures a lot of the time. (he says "ummm" A LOT) His tests are impossible and have nothing to do with the book or the lectures. He curves them a lot otherwise everyone would fail. A 68 is a B. If you must take him do the key terms and just read the core concepts before his lecture
He is really not that bad, I thought he was nice, and he said some funny things from time to time. This class was so easy, i got an A and i didn't realy try, just read the chapters and you'll do fine cause he curves.
He is a good teacher. He gives open book take home tests. He wants his students to understand people with disabilities. He does use his family examples a lot, but his examples help clarify.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
The class i super boring. Don't try to takes notes bexause you won't even have time. You have to go to class for a quiz or writing assignment every day. Quizes are basically vocab from book. He curves a lot otherwise the whole class would do horrible. Test are redic. but if you read the chapters, you won't do too bad.
He is a good professor and really cares that you do well. In my class he let students take the test over if they did poorly. He knows what he is talking about and can be quite funny. Give him a break, its hard being a professor.
Can be a very dull class. Has a quiz nearly every week and in class work every week. (EASY POINTS!) You may want the book for the vocab quizes! His tests are nearly impossible, but he curves them drastically. Overall, an easy A if you go to ALL classes.
I had 2 classes with him this semester. He's a little monotone but he has a great sense of humor, if you pay attention you won't be very bored. He really wants students to do well and he will work with them to help provide that. If you're looking for a class to skip a lot and not pay attention, avoid. If you want to learn, take him.
I took his social problems class a few semesters ago, and overall it was an easy class.. quite a few papers and a vocab quiz every week.. but tests are reallllly hard, but he usually curved them.. pretty easy class if you stay on top of things.
Dr Aldrich is one of the best teachers I have had in the university.
I recommended taking a small dose of LSD before coming to class...might make him more understandable....maybe....
lectures are boring and hard to understand, doesn't use powerpoints or D2L. tests are hard. you need to go to class everyday, quizzes atleast once a week and writes up in class. he gives extra credit opportunities alot though
He literally says nothing during lecture but you have to show up to class to do the vocab quizzes and the write ups. His tests are impossible but he curves heavily. If you want an easy SOC class dont take this one.
He uses overheads and they aren't organized that well. It's hard to follow the overheads just because they aren't well done. He really likes what he does and really gets into it. Go to class every day because you take a quiz or a writing assignment everyday.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS
I took this class and went banana!!!!!!!
drop if you have taken
he doesnt even know where and which topic he was in ...worst ever
boring i cant pay attention
This class is really hard. Class is not mandatory, but you have to be there to get notes so you have have the SLIGHT CHANCE of doing well. The tests are extremely hard and he takes it from EVERYTHING you talk about. Gives a pretty high curve but it doesn't help all that much when the exam is as hard as it is. Good luck if you have him.
The worst professor I've ever had. We had no textbook so we had to go off of his overheads, which were jumbled and confusing, he failed to explain anything very well and also failed to answer anyone's questions. The entire class was left confused the entire time. Avoid him if at all possible.
This class is definitely NOT as hard as everyone says it is. I would suggest reading the chapter before he lectures on it so you understand more what he is talking about. In class pay attention and don't go on your computer during his lectures. You really have to pay attention. An A in this class is achievable if you put in the time.
This class is easier than what everyone makes out of it. Don't go on your computer. Read the chapter before he lectures. Also do all the extra credit you can. I missed a few days and still did very well in the class
At first I didn't like the way he taught the class, but I've decided that soicology is such a broad topic that it's nearly impossible to talk about one thing without getting on another topic. I give him credit for teaching the class because it takes a lot of work to understand the material.
Really boring class and he can be VERY hard to follow for notes. Usually has daily quizzes or write-ups. Overall my opinion is that if I had one hour left to live I would spend it in this class because it would feel like forever.
I really didn't care much for Professor Aldrich's teaching style at all. He's hard to follow in class and there's usually a short quiz or a write-up for every class period. The thing that made this class tolerable was that he curves his tests to the class average, which has been between 55 and 65 for our tests so far, helping your grade immensely.
Really boring but huge curve. Passable class.
He goes off on a lot of random tangents and is really hard to follow during lecture...and boring. His test are really hard but the quizes every class period are really easy so you get points there. Avoid if you can.
Possibly one of my alltime favorite teachers, don't understand the hate he gets.
Professor Aldrich is a wonderful professor who loves the field of sociology. I will admit that he can be really monotone on some of his lectures but he does approach the concepts in a feasible way. Very tough tests but very lenient curve. As long as you try somewhat you will do satisfactory.
Hes a nice man, but i could not pay attention to his class. It was pretty old school.
Wonderful professors! Kind of a hard course, but he curves the class one whole letter grade! Awesomely helpful, and a super nice down-to-earth guy! Take him if you can, it's a fun experience and you'll enjoy him being your professor, lots of (claimsmaking) papers but pretty easy overall and only graded on a scale of 12! Take this class :)
Very smart guy who has done many things (visited many places, written books) but he struggles explaining things on a level that students would understand. His notes are just there, no organization. every week 6 point vocab quiz (easy points) exams 100 questions but open note/book/laptop. dont be fooled exams super hard! none does too well. not fav
He is very smart, but has no idea how to teach it. You have 6 point quizzes on each chapter about every week, but thats what you have been talking about for the class period. His Tests are very difficult, does to a curve but still very hard. VERY VERY BORING. rambles about stuff that you have no idea what he is talking about.
He is a nice person outside the classroom but thats the only thing. Vary hard to follow in class and he rambles on about things that don't matter. Don't take his classes they are vary boring. Also he is prehistoric and use overhead projection that are in all caps and don't make sense
Super easy class he rounds test scores down a ton. You have to be dumb to not get at least a B.
He's honestly an older guy that has a lot of experience, but doesn't make a good teacher. He'll give you plenty of extra credit opportunities and gives crazy curves. This semester he even let people use their computers and books for tests. Read the book, pay attention, go to class etc. If you want to actually learn, go with someone else.
He is not much of a teacher but it's easy to get an A due to the curves. If you actually want to learn something, do not take his class. He knows a lot but doesn't know how to explain it. But he is a very nice man and gives out good grades.
He is very knowledgeable on the subject however he is boring and hard to understand. Tests are open book/notes/internet but they are really long. The class has a huge curve so it is easy to get a good grade.
He does not know how to teach. He cannot grade anything correctly and is stubborn when it comes to correcting tests again when he grades things wrong. He is boring and cant even explain what he's trying to say. All you do is basically write papers about the 4 units.
He grades harshly. It is easy to fall asleep in his class. He babbles and quotes himself. Not a very good teacher, but he is a nice guy.
I'm not sure why everyone is giving Professor Aldrich such a bad rap, he's a really nice guy, and has interesting stories. Yes, he can be a harsh grader, but he gives so much extra credit, and he lets you take his exams over again. He can be boring to listen to, but overall not a bad Professor.
Brian's class can get boring, but I think he is kind of funny sometimes. Otherwise he is a great professor for an easy A, he told my class he gives out a lot of A's because he doesn't want to ruin anyones future! With this being said, the tests are graded on a curve (if you get 2850 before the curve, thats an A with the curve)! I recommend him!!
