Funny guy-ask him about the magic frog, his rubber monkeys, and his comic book Zach Proton.
He's kind of boring, but definitely way interested in what he's teaching and very willing to help. Kind of a stickler on attendance and tardiness. It's an inquiry based class, but he may be takeing it too far. If you're taking NSC306K it's probably required for your major, so since you have to take it, I'd say that overall, he's decent.
Wears the absolute coolest tshirts and tries to help the best he can, I know it's a class about learning how to teach science but a lot of the time we felt abandoned and literally taught ourselves everything, but overall a very nice guy
If you have the chance, take Dr. Anderson. He is the best professor I have ever had. He makes every lecture so enjoyable, and he understands everything so well. I would die for him.
Really caring and funny professor, but his lectures are a bit scrambled sometimes. He wears the coolest t shirts too.
Lots of work outside of class, but the tests are extremely easy. He loves to rock the blazer and t-shirt combo.
Such a great teacher for CH301 Very easy to get an A in the class if you go to the test reviews and take notes on the LE's. He's such a dad and keeps the class entertaining. Probably the easiest out of all the chem301 teachers.
He obviously cares a lot about what he is teaching and it is completely possible to get an A if you know the concepts well by going to weekly reviews and test reviews. He drops the lowest test grade too. He isn't the best at explaining the material but honestly it isn't that hard to teach yourself.
okay so i haven't taken chem since sophomore year of high school but honestly this class made chem fun (and im not the biggest fan). honestly, anderson is such a quirky, fun guy who talks about his cats but keeps everything in perspective. he makes jokes a lot but honestly i think it's lowkey needed in order to get through a chem lecture. 12/10 gr8
I love this professor! he makes lots of corny dad jokes and provide helpful tips to understand the content. His exams are very straight forward and simple, if you attend office hours and reivew sessions, getting a good grade is no problem
Really great intro chem class. Dr. Anderson is very passionate in what he's teaching. While his lectures aren't exactly organized, attending office hourd are greatly helpful where he explains the content much better. Attending office hours and answering questions in class is KEY, as you can accrue lots of bonus points. Would take again
He knows the material very well and is passionate about teaching. He gives engaging lectures and tries to liven things up. Do the learning modules before class and the lectures will be much more comprehensive.
I had the complete opposite experience that those before me. When I went to his office hours he talked to me as if I was the stupidest person he'd ever met. All of your grades come from your tests, but you have a million homeworks. They're only worth 5% of your grade. Not good for those with test anxiety.
If you ask a dumb q b4 the exam Anderson might call you out, but he appreciates curiosity. He makes it clear that stuff he emphasizes in class will be on the exam and attending office hours will give u gr8 insight into what's gonna b on it + drops ur lowest test. Asking/ answering qs in class will get u bonus pts. He's really hilarious too!
I skipped about 2 month's worth of lectures by signing in online from my dorm and still ended up with an A. Anderson is a super funny professor and his personality makes the class really engaging. However, the course is mostly taken through learning modules online, so going to class is optional since it can be self taught.
Anderson is so funny and nice! He is really passionate and such a dad. He cares about his students a lot and is happy to answer any questions. This being said, all the Chem classes at UT are basically online modules, so class is optional. Reviews with TAs and office hours are a necessity to do well. You don't really need the course pack.
Dr. Anderson was a great professor; in fact, I am taking him next semester again for CH302. His office hours were extremely helpful. His assistant Albert was also very helpful and his weekly reviews were great. Anderson is fun and knowledgeable about chemistry, but the tests were hard. Lots of outside studying is necessary. We use the online book.
His first semester back at UT! I have to say I like his lectures a lot.
Chemistry is tough no matter who teaches it at UT but I think Anderson was the best professor to have. Hilarious guy and had very informative office hours. Homeworks and learning modules aren't too hard, tests require a lot of studying though. If you stay on top of your work it isn't too bad.
Loved this guy. Anderson is hilarious and makes lectures fun and interesting. He encourages you to buy a "course packet" but I never used it, I just took my own notes in class. Tests aren't too bad; as long as you know your stuff and can do all the homeworks, you are set for an A. Short homeworks due every night before class, but they are easy.
Best Professor I've ever had at UT Austin. His teaching style is very clear and easy to understand. The tests were hard but that's is because of Chemistry. Anderson actually made the tests easier by removing certain topics(compared to other professors).
Dr. Anderson was my favorite professor by far. Before having him I hated chemistry but he made the class interesting. The test were all simple if you go on koofers & do practice exams from any professor. One test is dropped. I got a 99.5 in the class. There is extra credit if you participate in class and go to office hours. I highly recommend him
He is a fantastic teacher. He really is open to making sure you are doing the best you can. Always having his TA's have office hours as well as himself. Amazing lectures because of his witty attitude and a great guy to just listen to. If you are interested in chem, he is a great teacher to have
It took a while to understand his teaching style. He gives lots of HW and Modules to do, but theyre easy. Im not a strong chem student so I went to Jimmys office hours and he basically tells you whats going to be on the exam. I recommend going to Jimmys weekly reviews and you should be able to pull an A- or A.
Decent professor for a difficult intro class. The tests were difficult but he explained exactly what was going to be on each one. Office hours super helpful. Really tried to keep students engaged in class.
Fantastic professor that's easy to listen to and bumped my grade a little. Very manageable if you make any sort of effort at all.
Im sitting in Dr. Andersons class right now wondering what my how tragic my life will be when I dont get to see him every MWF. You have activities due most MWFs and HWs due every week or so. They review the material and are very manageable. 4 exams(1 drop) and participating in class gets points to bump your grade if youre on a borderline.
Really clear about what shows up on the tests and is fun to listen to in lecture. Does attendance with iClicker. The learning assistants are helpful in class and with their exam reviews also. There is online homework a couple times a week but its not long. If you've taken AP chem in high school you should have no problem getting an A in his class.
Class was never boring with Anderson. First test was always the easiest, and then the rest got difficult. Thankfully there is one drop test, and a lot of the online hw assignments get dropped. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND attending jimmy and Albert's reviews. Piazza and groupme are also good resources for help.
Good guy, hard class.
Dr. Anderson is the most caring professor I've ever had. This class was tougher than CH301 but definitely doable. After my final exam, he even emailed me congratulating me on my improvement in the class and tbh I cried. Super funny and knows his stuff! The TA reviews are super helpful in preparing for exams! Totally recommend this class!
Do not take him trust me...
Anderson is entertaining, a great teacher, and really cares about teaching his students. Chem is a hard class because the tests matter so much. Material honestly isn't that bad, and Anderson gives you all the info you need to know for exams. So many office hours and extra material to help you learn. He is great, 100% recommend taking this man
Anderson was a super nice guy, but the class in general is difficult. Go to lecture, pay attention, master the homeworks and LEs, and you will be fine. The class is definitely more difficult than CH301, but if you put a good effort forward, it is doable.
i took Dr. B for 301 and got a B+. For Anderson, the exams turned out to be a lot easier and I went to Albert and Jimmy's review sessions. Use your resources, read gchem a lot, and practice the homework problems . The content is harder than 301 but can be easier if you study and ask questions. There are also grade bumps if you are active in class
Dr. Anderson as an individual is really nice, caring, and genuinely loves teaching, so that is a plus. The class is test heavy with only 4 exams (one dropped). He was enthusiastic in lectures, HOWEVER, the textbook is useless and is LITERALLY mostly white space. Powerpoints were bland with little info. LEs were useless. I did well b/c of AP Chem
Dr. Anderson is an amazing professor - he truly cares for his students and wants them to succeed. Chemistry is a notoriously hard subject at UT, but Dr. Anderson will try his best to help with any problems during his office hours. There were a couple of extra credit points given, but don't count on them. He does round your grade up at the end.
You have to literally be a bagel to get lower than a B. Learning Modules and Homeworks prepare you for the test. There are office hours practically everyday, and review sessions that will honestly boost you a letter grade if you pay attention. I stopped paying attention after thermodynamics in CH301 but still got an A. Electrochem unit is hard.
I took Dr. Anderson for CH301 and CH302 and I loved him. His office hours are so helpful. He is a great lecturer. Tests are difficult but easy to do well on if you study.
I loved Dr. Anderson's class, he is funny and dorky during lecture which kept me engaged. His office hours are helpful for specific questions and hw help. Tests are not easy, but if you put in the effort they are doable. He keeps track of who participates in class and comes to office hours, and at the end of the semester he will round your grade up
For those debating who to take for chem- Take Dr. Anderson. I promise, you will not regret it. This man is a spectacle; he owns over 17,000 comic books, dresses up as storm troopers, and makes funny noises during lecture. You will never tune out in his class. He tells you the relationships and types of problems on exams in office hours! Go to them!
Professor Anderson is hilarious and makes his class engaging. He gives out a lot of extra points by throwing out candies and dinosaur toys at students. Sitting close to him and asking questions is the key. He offers a lot of office hours and is very dedicated. Downside: exams are composed of MC and FR. Each MC is 5 pt. and there is a final.
Entertaining and funny during lectures. You have to work hard if you want to do well, but there are so many resources to help you. Go to office hours and weekly reviews! I didn't start doing this until halfway through the semester but they really help. Chem is hard no matter the prof. I'm taking CH302 with Anderson next semester and would recommend
This class is ridiculously hard. If you're not some crazy smart genius, then good luck passing because it is all lecture, homework & exams. I never had to study for a class before this one, and not even halfway through the semester, I had to drop it and am retaking it. I got 100's on all the assignments, but F's on the exams & that was my downfall.
Dr Anderson is a young soul at heart and it shows every class day. Although as an individual he is really animated and fun, the workbook for the class was quite boring and monotonous. The class itself was extremely test heavy, but your lowest exam score gets dropped. Hard class, good teacher. Don't expect extra credit/curves.
Dr. Anderson is phenomenal! He really cares about teaching and loves making lectures fun to be at! To get a good grade you have to put in effort by going to office hours (Micah & Albert are wonderful). Most of the grade is exams, but they are not too bad as long as you start studying several days ahead of time.
Dr. Anderson is a very caring and entertaining professor that knows how to engage his students! However, lectures often got off track, making the course move more quickly through certain topics. Go to office hours and watch Albert's/Jimmy's review videos to avoid confusion early on, and an A will become attainable!
Great professor, great personality and made class entertaining. It always felt like he was rushing through the material, and I had to learn a lot of the material outside of class (Alberts reviews helped A LOT). Saw a lot of my friends drop the class because they just relied on lectures for his tests. You NEED to go to office hours to do well!
Awesome guy, kept me engaged during lectures. As someone who struggled a lot with chem, you will not do good if you don't study outside of the lectures! (go to every office hour/TA review/Youtube videos) drops 1/4 tests. Generous HW/LE grade bump. This is the class I studied for the most and still got a B. Sad cuz he's one of the easier chem profs.
CH301 was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken and the first class I was genuinely worried I wouldn't pass. But I loved Dr. Anderson- he was engaging and funny and seemed to really care about his students. I understood very little of his material but he was great and if you like chem you may enjoy his class
Although I hate Chemistry with a passion Dr. Anderson made it bearable. His lectures are engaging and fun and it's very worth it to go to class. Also generous with extra credit and grading.
Anderson was awesome! He was very funny and even wore a storm trooper outfit to class once. He has tons of office hours and chem is a pretty intense class so that was really helpful for the tests. He's very energetic and cares about the students. This was a big class so I didn't get to know him personally, but I would definitely take him again
Chemistry at UT is notoriously difficult esp for freshmen, I felt hopeless after failing my first exam. However I talked to Anderson about it and he was more than willing to help me, and genuinely cares about his students. You MUST put work in to do good, go to office hours, test yourself-- Anderson is a GREAT prof, office hours are a must
Dr. Anderson knows what he's teaching and teaches it reasonably well. He sometimes brushes over concepts really quickly but the concepts of CH302 aren't too hard so its okay. Expectations are very clear and exams are pretty fair. Just like Biberdorf and Sparks, I think that Anderson is a solid choice for chem.
Prof Anderson is an absolute gem. He's super passionate about chem and cares a ton about his students. Content is super organized and clearly outlined in online learning modules. Cannot recommend this class enough, wish he taught OChem.
Dr Anderson is honestly the best professor I've had this semester. He breaks down concepts well and the learning modules are pretty straightforward. The office hours available are very frequent so it's easy to get help either through TAs or Piazza. Transition to online learning was great, lots of helpful videos and practice quizzes.
Dr. Anderson was a good professor, I just personally didn't like his teaching method. He is a very funny and caring professor but I just couldn't understand how he would work his problems out and then scribble all over them, too messy for me. His TA Albert was very helpful though!! Definitely go to his weekly reviews, helps a lot.
Pros -Amazing and funniest prof, keeps you engaged -Better job than Sparks/Bib at explaining topics and helping you to understand the material Cons -you have to cover the difficult content out of class -CH302 was a STRUGGLE i would attend class, review lectures each week, and study hours and hours on end and i would still have difficulties on tests
Dr. Anderson was great, fun, and engaging! The class was well structured and easy to manage, and the professors and TAs all want the students to succeed. There are tons of opportunities for help outside of class, and the Piazza platform is used often. You can easily get an A if you understand the homework, study, and get help when you need it.
Dr. Anderson is fantastic. He cares so much about his students, and truly wants you to succeed. There are so many resources to do well in this class, so use them! I failed the first two exams and still ended up with a B because I utilized office hours, piazza, extra practice problems, etc.
I took Dr. Anderson for both CH301 and CH302 and I would take him again. His lectures are helpful and do polls in-class. There are resources outside of class to help with learning and going to his office hours can be helpful as well. You will do good in the class as long as you can do a lot of practice problems.
Dr. Anderson is the kindest professor in the chem department no doubt. He goes out of his way to help you in this class if you show that you're putting forth effort and really trying. That being said, if you haven't taken AP Chem in high school you better get ready to spend hours upon hours working on this class. Hardest class I've taken at UT
Dr. Anderson is very energetic, which is refreshing, but sometimes he overdoes it and it gets hard to pay attention to the material at hand. I really struggled in chem 1&2 w Anderson but I have friends who made way better grades while putting in way less effort. While Anderson's teaching style didn't work for me, it may be great for you.
Dr. Anderson was one of my best professors this semester. Even after Covid, he had many regularly scheduled office hours and reviews in which he continually addressed the concerns of all students, leaving no student's questions unanswered as he would even stay past his assigned office hour times to do so (showed genuine care for all his students)
Anderson is kind, funny, and caring! CH302 was super hard for me, but Anderson worked w me and got me a passing grade. This meant a lot, during a struggling time. Although covid19 changed the class, Anderson stayed positive and remained being a wonderful educator. Chemistry isn't my strong suite, but I wouldn't have wanted to take it w anyone else!
Awesome professor. The key to excelling on tests is to use Gchem to study
i didnt do that well but that was my own fault hes an amazing chem professor. hilarious dude. office hours make A HUGE difference. he notices you there
Professor Anderson: absolutely phenomenal! He was really goofy and talked animatedly about everything, which inclined students to be more interested in learning the material. There are 2 booklets you have to get which are fantastic and a sure-fire way to do well in the class. Watch lectures, make a summary of material, and do practice problems > A
I love this guy. He teaches so well in that he is both entertaining and knowledgeable at the same time. Shows tons of personality through his lectures and would've preferred to have him teach all of the class and not do the co-teaching with the other professors. Quizzes are moderate, but you will never be tested over material you've never seen
Dr. Anderson is super energetic and has great jokes! The class was team-taught with Sparks and Bieberdorf too. The profs are always available to answer any questions. The weekly quizzes get repetitive but all content is from lecture/practice problems.
Extremely nice professor who genuinely wants the best for his students! There are open note weekly quizzes, which can be somewhat overwhelming but they're mostly straightforward if you diligently watch all the (asynchronous) lectures and do the homework. The countless resources Dr. Anderson provides to find help was also a godsend this semester!
I was nervous going into this semester with Chemistry being online. That being said, Dr. Anderson and his AMAZING team handled the transition flawlessly. Class consists mainly of pre-recorded videos and modules, but it is very organized. Going to office hours is in your best interest as Dr. Anderson encourages asking questions and explains well.
We had 3 professors with 3 different teaching styles and they all had pre-recorded lectures so there was no way to ask questions during the videos. They heavily rely on office hours, piazza, and TA's. I had to buy 2-course packets. $60. If you are a more hands-on visual person I do not recommend this class. Those quizzes are outrageous.
Dr. Anderson was really helpful during his office hours and always had a positive attitude. The weekly quizzes were sometimes stressful but I preferred them better than having to take exams. The class itself can be difficult but doable if you put in the effort.
Ch301 was taught jointly by Anderson, Sparks, and Bieberdorf for fall 2020, I enjoyed Anderson's lectures the most. Weekly quizzes every thurs, three per unit (a,b,c) that increase in difficulty. The profs accomodated a lot for the students, if you put the work in for this class you'll do fine. Don't get the purple packet but get the orange one.
Anderson was approachable, understanding, and hilarious. However, I did not like the class structure this semester. The weekly quizzes were difficult and stressful. I also wish the class was synchronous with longer lectures. The recorded lectures were too simplified. I went to multiple office hours a week fishing for extra info not covered in lcs.
Chem was the hardest class Ive ever taken. Im not sure if it was because of covid but we had an insane amount of work and I would fully devote my time to this class almost to where I would neglect my other classes. Dr Anderson is funny and nice but kind of can act like youre stupid if you ask questions. Ive never struggled and studied so much.
Dr. Anderson really has a good heart. Anderson is a very caring, funny, and intelligent professor. He is so enthusiastic about teaching, which makes his kids want to be there. I had little chem background to start, & I dedicated nearly 20 hours a week, mostly studying on my own. Anderson is very helpful in OH, but be prepared to work your tail off.
Professor Anderson is everything I wanted as a university professor. He cares very much and has so many resources and opportunities for students to improve. GO TO OFFICE HOURS and practice all you can. Some extra credit is offered but you gotta work for your grade if chem isn't your thing.
Easily one of my favorite professors. Always funny to see what he would do during lecture. The class is structured very well considering it is all online. Discussion groups are mandatory, but not hard at all. Do well on quizzes, as they can make or break your grade. All TAs, LAs, and professors were easy to get a hold of. Check Piazza often!
Great professor and amazing for the transition to online. Makes material and hep very accessible to everyone. Team teaches with two other professors who are also amazing
He's okay at best - all the professors that team teach together are pretty condescending and rude. If you suggest a change in the course, they shut you down pretty quickly. If you're taking CH 301 or 302 online, maybe try with a different professor because this guy isn't as good as the hype suggests.
He is amazing. The structure of the class is not the best bc 75% of your grade is only test-based. But he is the best Chemistry Professor. He truly cares for his students and will stay 2 hours extra in his OF just answer all questions. He is great at explaining the material and will cover all steps. Definitely take him!!
Difficult course and there seems to be a clear rift between the teaching team and the students. Do all of the practice problems and watch all of the lecture videos early. Go to office hours.
Dr. Anderson is a great and funny professor, however, chemistry is really hard but his office hours are a great way to ask him questions on topics you don't understand. This year with his class being online it was hard to follow along with his lectures and the quizzes this semester were 75% of our total grade. However the final was optional.
The majority of your grade will be determined by the quizzesits true. However, there are so many resources at your disposal to make sure you ace them. Highly recommend office hours & practicing w/ the orange pack. He is a great & hilarious professor; the class overall can get difficult if you don't practice. Warning: there is quite a bit of hw.
CH302 with Anderson was awful. This class is beyond difficult and tests make up 75% of your grade, so if you do bad on them, you're screwed. Additionally, the content on the tests is NOTHING like the homework or learning exercises, making them unnecessarily hard. He team-teaches with Biberdorf and Sparks; take a professor other than those three.
Took Dr. Anderson for General Chemistry I and II and he is definitely one of the best professors in the UT system! Not the easiest class or the most engaging, but Dr. Anderson and his teaching team genuinely care abut their students. Attending office hours is a MUST as he often elaborates on important topics briefly mentioned during the lectures.
Mediocre - that's all I have to say. This class is run by a bunch of narcissists (Dr. Anderson and Dr. Bieberdorf mostly, not Dr. Sparks). They're okay, good professors, but the way they handle complaints or criticism is just awful. Truly awful. Save yourself the heartache and take another professor if you can - these guys aren't worth the stress
Gen chem is hard but doable. Out of the three teaching team I would say Dr. Anderson is the most understanding, however, I don't think you could go wrong with any of them. To succeed, you HAVE to go to office hours, read gchem, and get things done early to have time to study. Put in the time and put in the time again, and it will work out.
Dr. Anderson was such a fun professor, I took them him for gen chem 1 and 2. The homework load was light to medium. You do not need to read the textbook (gchem) to succeed, just watch the lectures and actually do the practice problems. Getting an A is definitely achievable if you put in the work. He also offers a lot of extra credit
Dr. Anderson is so hilarious! Listening to him talk is literally pure joy :) However, if you would want someone who purely talks about lectures with little to no side comments/distractions, I recommend Dr. Sparks. Otherwise, Dr. Anderson is wonderful and is eager to help his students! Brilliant professor!
He's amazing! He's very engaging and I like his teaching style the most out of the trio. Super caring and understanding! If you pay attention during lectures and do the extra practice problems in the orange course pack, you should get an A.
Had Dr. Anderson for my first two semesters and he's easily the most memorable professor I've had at UT. Lectures are funny & engaging and he makes difficult material very manageable. Lots of assignments but each is worthwhile. Adjusts his schedule as needed to make things fair. King of the chemistry department. If you can, take his class!
Good, funny, and passionate professor. His lectures out of all the teaching team tend to be the most drawn out, but he breaks everything down quite nicely so the material isn't too bad contrary to other opinions. Class time is optional office hours. I enjoyed the prof but did not like the flipped classroom/team teaching aspect.
Dr. Anderson co-teaches this class with Dr. Biberdorf and Dr. Sparks. This is a difficult class that will definitely require you to put in a lot of work if you want a good grade. Dr. Anderson's office hour sessions are helpful for exams and he is an entertaining lecturer. However, the class averages on exams were consistently in the low 70's.
Amazing chem professor made chemistry feel so easy. He had in person lectures that were extremely helpful and recommended even if you are not having trouble in the class. He really cares about his students and is simply just a very funny professor that makes chemistry really engaging.
This class was an amazing introduction class. The lectures were posted online and just watching them is enough to understand all the material. Do the practice problems in the course pack, the test questions are very similar. There was an opportunity to drop your lowest test grade. If you did well on all tests, the final is optional. AMAZING!
Dr. Anderson is funny and explains content well. The issue I had with this course was that the units are divided among him and two other profs and taught primarily in online videos. I didn't like the others' styles, so those units were harder. Also, make sure to attend office hours! I blew them off and my grade definitely suffered because of it.
It was OK. I could not adapt to the online format and the course load was just very stressful. However, the TAs and the professors are very good at responding to and helping their students. VERY test heavy, that was my downfall. Practice questions were not similar to the test questions IMO. Overall, kinda hit or miss but really nice + funny prof!
A TON of work. but if you don't go to "lectures" (time blocks in schedule are just office hours bc of the flipped classroom), the workload is doable. i really wish they would cut it down though, unnecessary... i did all practice problems offered and utilized Ed discussions frequently and made high As on all exams. its possible. just not a fun class
Anderson is a really personable professor but the class is completely online and combines 3 teachers. 80% of your grade are tests and the average on each is a 70/75. I had to work a ridiculous amount to get an A. At the end of the day, chem is hard no matter what and my biggest advice is to USE GCHEM and Go to SI/office hours
Dr. Anderson is hilarious and a great teacher. GO TO HIS CLASS AND OFFICE HOURS. the videos are good, but he makes everything so simple in OH and lecture (and they are fun). Tests aren't the easiest, but if you use the orange course pack you'll be prepared, and ofc go to office hours for extra help! The weekly homework are easy, but are worthless
Honestly, this class was an absolute breeze for me, and I finished with a 101, but mainly because I had taken AP in high school. Even if you aren't good at chem, the lectures and the teaching trio are great at explaining concepts. All grades are essentially completion other than tests. It is exam-heavy, but they give you plenty of preparation.
I love this teacher, he is so funny and great overall but holy moly this class is hard. I think I studied most for this class and I got a C+. My advice is never. ever. miss a discussion session because if I made all of them I would've made a B because they use the attendance as extra credit to your final grade.
Anderson, Biberdorf, and Sparks (aka the trio) are fantastic. They and their combined 6 TA's and LA's always have office hours and there are optional discussions that can give you extra credit on your final grade. Course was mostly asynchronous with Canvas modules you complete each week along with hw that was easy A's. Lowest exam grade is dropped
He is a good prof (very engaging/can break concepts down). The class was mostly asynchronous with Canvas modules and hw with in-person office hours during class time. The tests are hard and very specific. You will do good if you put a lot of time in but I personally couldn't so it was my lowest grade freshman fall. Go to discussions and get the EC
The class was taught in a flipped classroom with 2 other teachers, but he held office hours during class time. He is a very funny teacher, which keeps you engaged in the content, and he really cares about you not only as a student but as a person. As a team, they are very supportive of students, and the workload and difficulty are well-balanced.
This semester the course was fully a teach yourself type and then come to tutoring/office hours if you need help. I didn't go for extra help much and relied mostly on friends if I was confused. Your grade is made by how much you study for the exams and how well you understand the concepts. Make sure to ask for help and make time for this class.
Anderson is one of the most engaging, passionate, and caring professors at UT. I hated and failed AP Chem in high school, and I still got an A+ in CH301, so you're in good hands. He would stay after office hours to answer any & all questions and his lectures are very entertaining (which is hard to do considering this is CHEMISTRY). A true gem.
Prof Anderson is such a fun and vibrant person, he is quite the visual learner and the way he explain the concepts just make sense to me so I go to his office hours even if he is technically not my professor. Despite how cheesy it may sound, Professor Anderson's passion for chemistry motivated me significantly.
Hardest class I've ever taken. Prof Anderson is great, but the coursework is extremely rigorous. LOTS of online videos + homework, expects you to have prior chem knowledge, tests are very difficult and tricky. Expect to spend a lot of time studying and crying. HOWEVER, CH301 is team-taught, and between the 3 profs offered I recommend Anderson!
Dr. Anderson is great. He's definitely the best teacher out of the trio. His lectures were great, and he genuinely cared about all of us. That being said, the class was a lot of work and the exams were quite difficult. Also, the teaching style of the other professors wasn't great for me. The overall experience wasn't the best but Anderson is a gem.
The commitment this professor has for his classes and students is ineffable. He's always ready and happy to answer any questions. His lectures are engaging and the jokes he throws in between makes the class super interesting. Receiving turtle foods/candies/toy dinosaurs for answering questions personally helped me engage in his lectures even more.
Online lecturing format is usually very, very boring, but Dr. Anderson def tries his best to make it fun! Chem is a difficult subject, but the trio, the TAs, and the LAs are all so caring. They WANT you to succeed. Best advice I can give is to watch the LEs on time. Can't stress that enough. The orange packet practices really help too.
Lectures are honestly really entertaining bc Anderson is so funny. You don't even need to go to lecture though as the LE's do a very good job at explaining the concepts. If you do watch all the LE's, do all the HW's, and do the entire Orange book, you will probably get an A. It's a very fair class and informative class.
Anderson is a smart man, but so aggressive to his students when they're simply asking questions. It's so silly as students learn through VIDEOS and don't get to ask questions directly unless they go to office hours, so for him to be so unnecessarily aggressive to his students merely asking questions on Ed Discussions is embarrassing and so wrong.
Please take Dr.Anderson!!! He is such a knowledgable professor and he is the only reason I did well in chemistry. His lectures are very engaging and his office hours are super helpful. You can really tell that he cares about all of his students. If you study and do the extra practice he gives you, you will do well on every test.
Dr. Anderson is honestly my favorite professor so far. He is such a cool guy. His teaching style is thorough but at the same time relaxed. He is also incredibly funny, I loved all of the jokes that he made. I highly recommend him to anyone taking gen chem here.
Dr. Anderson is a very enjoyable professor for a typically boring course. The team teaching style is unique, as well as the structure of the class mostly being asynchronous. However, if you attend lectures and keep up with all of the assignments, you should be fine. Anderson truly gets to know his students and can tell some funny jokes in lectures
Definitely has the best personality of all the professors! Only sad Anderson didn't teach more out of the trio. Makes the content fun and interesting. I didn't need to attend lectures but he always made them enjoyable when I did.
80% of your grade is based on how well you do on the exams so make sure you do not fall behind on the LEs and homework!!! I know Anderson says his lectures and office hours are optional but I HIGHLY recommend going because half of the time he'll give you hints as to what to expect on the exams/give you tricks on how to approach certain questions.
Your grade will mostly depend on what you get on the exams (5 counting the final). I didn't really interact with him because I didn't go to lectures and each unit is taught by a different professor on the LEs. However, I thought he was kinda harsh when answering questions.
I came into college preferring bio way more than chem, but Dr. Anderson completely changed that. His lectures are seriously worth attending even though attendance isn't required! The exams are extremely fair, so if you make sure to attend lectures/office hours and do the homework/problems then you don't need to worry about doing well.
All three of the chem professors I had were great and very organized. Anderson was the funniest. Good man.
FANTASTIC TEACHER. Theres a lot of homework but its never too hard. Lectures are SUPER helpful and both teachers and TAs are always super quick to respond to any questions. BUY THE ORANGE COURSE PACK, its the most helpful thing ever, especially when it comes to exams. Do all the practice problems and tests and youll do great. LOVE ANDERSON
Love his teaching style: not too slow but fast enough to keep your attention. Use the orange course pack to study and you should be fine
Prof. Anderson is fun, but not very good at managing time. Lectures were rushed, and at times he made comments that made me feel stupid or worthless. Study the orange course book and ask questions on Ed-Discussion. Good late work policy, but tests make up the majority of grades, so fail 2 and your grade is trashed.
Professor Anderson is an enthusiastic professor who makes chemistry engaging. Don't skip class, and try to do a bit of chemistry every day. His personality is great, but his time management skills were kind of off sometimes, which made him push material into the next lecture. I got to know him personally and he truly does care about his students.
I loved Professor Anderson. To get a good grade in this class: do problems in the orange course pack, go to office hours, understand the homework problems, use EdDiscussion, and check out gchem if you're ever stuck on a concept. Start studying for tests early so you can figure out what you don't know, and always, always ask him questions.
Professor Anderson is a great professor, but he is extremely fast-paced. Unless you dedicate 10-15 hours a week to reviewing in-class and outside practice materials, it is difficult to keep up. Definitely attend every single lecture if you are able to, very material-heavy and he's a really engaging and funny lecturer.
Dr. Anderson has a personality of gold and the best sense of humor, but nothing prepared me for how much I would struggle in CH301 since I didn't have previous chem knowledge. Go to office hours, attend every lecture & discussion, practice in the orange course pack, and watch Organic Chemistry tutor on YT. This class is based solely on exam grades.
Professor Anderson is a very nice guy and knows what he's doing. However, he would constantly get off topic in class and we would always be so far behind other chemistry classes. There were 2 tests throughout the semester we were learning new material the day of the test. It was a super difficult class and tutors are NEEDED!
Chemistry is a very hard subject in general, especially if you have no chem background. I did struggle through this class, but it was well worth it because I truly did end up learning. They will do everything to help you pass, so just don't slack and keep up with your work. Do the practice problems! They really help!
Prof. Anderson is really funny, and keeps you engaged in lectures. Class is test heavy no doubt, but do the LE's in advance and then orange book problems. Also use ed discussion and go to at least one office hour a week. Go to lecture to make sure you're getting the concepts. The TAs can be a little tough on grading, so don't forget the details.
I swear to god, all of you should take Anderson's class. He is super funny in class and explains concepts really well. Great professor overall.
Anderson rambles a lot so we are always behind on test material. You end up cramming and not feeling prepared ever. He told us we had to rely on office hours to do good which is kinda annoying if other ppl with diff chem profs don't have to. Get ready to study don't take this class as a joke bc the first unit was an easy review of AP chem.
Cool guy but class organization makes it difficult to actually learn the material. Tests are vague, and even though I did well, feel like I didn't learn anything. The topics are organized in a manner that's easy to forget after being tested on it.
Dr. Anderson is very knowledgeable about chemistry. HOWEVER the application to teaching is very lackluster especially for those who have little to no background in the subject. He rushes through material and still ends up behind schedule for material on exams. 85% of your grade is based on 5 exams, though one is dropped, the risk is not worth it.
I loved having Anderson as my professor! He had a great personality, and his two course packs (lecture slides and practice problems) were helpful! Attending class and discussions can get you extra credit. Most of this class will be review if you took AP chemistry.
Anderson was very funny and made class enjoyable. Go to office hours!!!! he is very helpful there, especially right before the exams. Class content was average difficulty for a typical gen chem class. Homeworks and LE's were very frequent, and I have the most exams in this class than any other.
Anderson is pretty great, I just had a tough time learning chemistry. Extra credit is everything though! Do all assignments and show up to lecture, discussion, and office hours (it pays off) I'm not the biggest Trio fan but you just have to understand the formula they use for grading and such.
I couldn't have asked for a better professor. For the pre-meds out there, take his class because though it is a bit tougher, you'll have such an amazing class and community to ask/answer questions. Do yourself a favor and do the homeworks/LE early. Tests are slightly easier than homework questions. Take this class.
Dr. Anderson is great! Attendance isn't mandatory, but he is very engaging and helpful during his lectures/office hours. You have 3 attempts on homework assignments, so you have a guaranteed 100 for 25% of your grade. Exams are difficult and count for a large percentage of your grade, so study and do the extra practices problems he provides.
Great professor, difficult class. Professor Anderson made things as interesting as possible and he held really helpful office hours. The class itself was just very difficult, it required lots of studying and practice.
Dr. A was the worst professor I've had at UT. He puts on this kid-friendly, star wars loving act so you think he's sweet, but he doesn't care about his students. I had an extenuating circumstance happen at home and when I emailed him about it he was rude, and basically told me I wasn't gonna be anything in life bc I didn't go to his office hours.
Dr. Anderson is a cool dude. CH 301 is not easy but it gets easier with his CH 302 class. His lectures are always entertaining but he can get a little sidetracked, which is why its important to come to class with some foundational knowledge on the lecture. 4 exams, 1 drop, and 1 final are 80% of your grade in both 301 and 302, so get ready to study
You pay for ur grade $100 to cover iClicker, coursepacks, etc. course pack is $70 that has info they won't talk about in class which is rly helpful for exams. difficult to build study habits bc tests are 5 class days apart or 1 month apart. I didn't want this prof but no one else was available. download UT reg plus and compare syllabi of diff profs
Not a fan of how the trio structures this class at all but Anderson is the best out of them. He tells you what's going to be on the exams and shortcuts to solving problems which is so helpful. Sometimes he goes on a tangent in class which wastes time, still a good prof. You can miss like two or three questions on the exams and still get a B tho
Gen chem is a difficult class in general. Dr. Anderson says at the beginning of the year that you're going to have to do a lot of the learning on your own and he was not lying about that. Nonetheless, I loved having Dr. Anderson. He is such a nice guy and is so funny. Best out of the trio for sure. Tip: GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS!!!
Despite being funny and helpful at times, he easily gets off track and goes on tangents that have nothing to do with what we'll be tested on. I felt it really hindered our progress and my performance. It's hard enough, and his doing that makes it much harder. You can definitely still get by, but I feel I may have done better with someone else.
Gen chem is difficult, but Dr. Anderson makes up for it w/ how funny he is. He's sincere, and he'll even learn your name if you consistently go to office hours. He gets off track during lectures sometimes...but overall he's cool. Keep up with the assignments!!! The tests + final make up ~80% of your grade...learning the units last minute is risky
I loved Dr. Anderson as my prof for CH302. He was very funny and witty, which made me look forward to lecture. This was a difficult class, but it is definitely possible to get a decent grade as long as you put work in.
Took Prof. Anderson for CH301 & CH302 since he was just that awesome. CH302 is easier that CH301 in my opinion. His teaching style is chill & hilarious, but he will definitely teach you the stuff you need to know for the test (+ shortcuts/easy equations). No extra fluff. Definitely attend his office hours and DO THE ORANGE COURSEPACK! Lifesaver.
I found this to be one of the most difficult courses I've ever taken so far. His lectures were very interesting though, and he knows what he's doing. However, I felt very discouraged by the low exam scores I received despite extensive studying and attempting to fix issues in said studying. Others may have better experiences though.
Dr. Anderson is a terrific professor. CH302 is hard but he makes it easier with his lecture style. He's engaging, interactive, and interesting and he cares if you understand the content. He gives great life advice lol. Go to his office hours if you need help they do a lot! Also, orange course pack +any resources on Canvas!.
Dr. Anderson is a great professor. His lectures are engaging and entertaining. Make sure you go to weekly discussions for extra credit, attend classes and office hours, and do the orange course pack. The class is demanding but it's worth it especially if you need to take chemistry throughout college. Also he gives great life advice lol.
Please take him! His content is of reasonable caliber, and he tries really hard to make all of the concepts accessible to students! He has a lot of office hours, and he hands out dinosaurs and turtle food to encourage participation. Most of your grade is your exams, but you get one drop. Just be sure to keep up with the work.
Take Laude. Anderson can not teach you. He overcomplicates things or explains too little, there's no in between. The tests make up most of the grade, 4 test 1 drop that is worth 60% and the final exam is 25%. TAs only help with homework they barely can teach you the concepts.
If you have no prior experience in Chem (AP Chem) DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. 85% of your grade is based on 4 exams and a final which have consistently low averages despite studying, attending office hours, doing the orange course book, etc. Test are not curved and only one of your first 4 midterms is dropped.
Great professor. Lectures are fast-paced, but Anderson explains each concept clearly - no extra fluff. Everything necessary to get an A is provided: orange course pack, online reviews, practice problems, etc. but you MUST put in the effort in studying for the exams. If you bomb one, no big deal - your lowest is dropped. Take him, he's wonderful!
I'm convinced only people who got As reviewed because a lot of people struggled. Tests are 85% of the grade and since he left the trio, all tests are multiple-choice (not good because no partial credit). Course pack helps but sometimes he gets off track and starts rambling. Passible, but not worth the stress if you're not the best tester.
Dr. Anderson is a fun person, but his class is not for everyone. If you are not a great test taker, I DO NOT recommend. There are 4 midterms each worth 20%, you can drop one of them, and a final which is worth 25%, making 4 total tests worth 85% of your grade. His tests are trickier than the other two of the trio and there is no extra credit.
I would not reccomend Anderson to anyone who doesn't have the free time to learn everything outside of class because that's what he expects you to do. He would constantly get side tracked in lecture and go on unnecessary tangents. I found his his teaching style to fall short when considering the type of performance he expects in his class.
Dr. Anderson was a very funny and entertaining teacher, I enjoyed his lectures very much; despite not having any quality chemistry education in high school while also being a major outside STEM; I was able to understand the concepts quite well. However, the tests are meant to trip you up: his grades are consistently lower than other CH301 classes.
He was my fav teacher. However, tests were a challenge.
Dr. Anderson is a charismatic and witty professor. His lectures are entertaining and engaging, although he sometimes gets side tracked. There are a lot of resources available (homework, practice problems, past exams, office hours...) Your final grade is heavily based on exams -- averages for exams were around 78 on the midterms and the final.
My favorite professor of the semester! His class is challenging, but he provides you with many resources in order to succeed in his class. He is very considerate too and his TAs are all available to fast to respond. Would highly recommend!
Loved Dr. Anderson as a person...he's funny and knowledgable. THAT BEING SAID, his class is EXTREMELY test-heavy for no reason, it's honestly ridiculous. Great TAs but this class tanked my GPA because of the final and midterms even though I would prepare for weeks and spend hours every day studying/doing every assignment.
Lectures were engaging and he explains concepts well, though they were not organized the best and included frequent tangents. Your grade is 85% MCQ exams, so use the resources he provides to do well (orange book!). I came in having taken AP Chem so the class wasn't too hard - if you have not, this class will cover lots of new content very quickly.
if u didnt pay attention to chem in high school and have no idea of the basics of chem.. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASSattendance mandatory with QR code and also iclicker questions (you have to pay for the app), 4 exams and like 20 canvas quizzes for each unit
This class is a difficult course if you are taking it your very first semester of college. If you think you like chemistry, this will be a totally different ball game. If you are hesitant in science or do not have the best work ethic or study tools quite yet, just wait. He is a great lecturer, and he WILL make you learn. Tests worth 85% of grade
Don't get me wrong, Dr. Anderson is a very fun person, but he would leave us with tons of content to cover days before the exam, and tests were difficult with C averages and very little extra credit. Tests are weighted extremely heavily and make up 85% of grade; I wouldn't recommend taking this class if it's your first experience with chemistry!
Anderson is a great lecturer and makes class extremely interesting, however, this class is very difficult. Review concepts BEFORE lectures, and pay attention in class. Do not fall behind or you will suffer. If you have a weak chemistry background, you will struggle. My only complaint is that tests are extremely difficult. Learn how to study.
Dr. Anderson is very charismatic, and his lectures are engaging, however his exams can be difficult, especially if your chemistry background is lacking. I added "Graded By Few Things" as his exams are worth 85% of your grade, so if you don't perform the best on those your grade will reflect those grades nearly identically. Go to office hours!
I felt like he covered the very basic concepts in class and would have a mix of really easy and really difficult problems on the exams. Occasionaly, there would be 1 or 2 questions on exams that weren't covered in lecture...The averages and medians in our classes for the tests were 72's and 74's meaning almost half the class failed.
Mr.Anderson is clearly a person who's passionate about what he teaches, so much that I'm taking him next sem too. I said attendance is mandatory just cause he has these sign-ins but those sign-ins are just so he has something to refer to if he has to explain why he bumped your grade a couple decimal points up :) his classes are worth it anyways
Actually has engaging lectures and is a great guy. My only issue is that he gatekeeps information on like 1-3 questions for each test which is a bit annoying.
Dr. Anderson is a blast! He is super funny, and makes chemistry very very accessible! Don't listen to how dramatic people are about the "difficulty of the exams." If you do the orange book problems and study what he tells you to study, the exams are a breeze. Low time commitment class, average-difficulty exams, and awesome professor - would retake!
Don't get me wrong, I like Anderson as a person, but I personally did not respond well to his lecturing style. As someone who has 0 background in chemistry I was constantly seeking help from TAs, doing the extra homework, and reading gchem, but I still struggled a lot in this class. Your lowest test score is dropped which is clutch and why i passed
If you're looking at the Big 3, Anderson is the best lecturer but also has the harder exams. He's concise and explains the fundamentals without making it confusing. As long as you keep up and study all the resources, you will do well on the exams. However, this course is definitely not an easy A. It is attainable, but you have to put in the work.
Dr. Anderson is an extremely funny and caring professor and his teaching style was wonderful. However, his exams were on the more challenging side and had tricks embedded into them that you needed to be able to recognize. His class was very test heavy with one drop. He often ran out of time/rushed the last few concepts before an exam.
He's a really great professor and really entertaining but If you don't have a strong background in chemistry I would not take him, had to switch to another professor who is much better. He also goes off topic a lot so at the end of the unit he started cramming information right before the exam.
I had zero prior knowledge of chemistry which was reflected in my grade! Anderson is a great person, but his exams and assignments don't need to be that difficult. If your pre-med or just in general do not take him, your gpa will suffer. Take laude, because it's my biggest regret of my college career taking Anderson..
Dr.Anderson's lectures are so great! Super informative and engaging. The TAs are all fantastic too, very patient and helpful. I think there's more TAs this semester which is nice because you can get help easily. Class is test-heavy, but if you start studying a week out from the exam, do practice problems, and ask questions, you will be fine.
Good person, okay teacher. Exams are based on your LEs and course book problems. Lectures are mostly off topic which helps someone if they doesn't understand the basic material because he will dumb it down in class, but the exams are hard questions and the course book has examples. Could slide by with a 60 or 70 with minimal effort.
sounds mean, but lowk if you didn't well in his class its purely due to lack of effort. Yes, his tests can be tricky at times, but they're all tricks he goes over in class plus the million problems in the orange course pack. Nothing he tests is new or confusing, you just have to think. Amazing professor and always ready to help
302 was my favorite class this semester. Dr. Anderson is very nice, and his lectures are great. The TAs are also helpful. I recommend Ryan's office hours and Lauren's/Aseel's exam review. Use all the resources they give you and you'll get an A.
Amazing lecturer, super funny and engaging. CH 302 is conceptually more challenging than 301, but he's great at explaining the fundamentals behind each unit and provides more than enough resources to practice for the exams. That said, they can be tricky if you don't thoroughly study everything. Overall, getting an A is not free but very attainable!
Chemistry will always be tough, that is just the subject. Dr. Anderson will do his best to make it enjoyable and easy to learn. After taking Biberdorf, Anderson was such a relief. He does give "tricky" questions, but if you understand the concept, you'll be fine. Rewatch lectures, solve any questions given, and practice. You'll be alright!
Dr. Anderson is a very nice and caring person. His lectures were fun and the learning exercises were good practice before attending the lecture to help give a little structure before diving into the content in class. Some of his TAs were also great! Highly recommend taking it with him if you are looking for a professor to take CH301 or CH302 with!
Took Sparks for 301 then switched to Anderson for 302, BEST DECISION EVER! He's engaging during lecture and never condescending like some professors are. Went to every class this semester and he never got off-topic. He made sure we were prepared for his tests. Tests weren't easy but going to the TA sessions the day of helped so much.
Dr. Anderson is amazing. He's funny and keeps students engaged. Throws turtle food to students who answer questions. Exams every 3 weeks so it's important to stay on track and review. He has an orange course pack with hundreds of practice problems, would recommend getting it especially to prepare for the exams. Class structure is very organized.
Dr. Anderson is a blast! He is super funny, and makes chemistry very very accessible! Don't listen to how dramatic people are about the "difficulty of the exams." If you do the orange book problems and study what he tells you to study, the exams are a breeze. Low time commitment class, average-difficulty exams, and awesome professor - would retake
Anderson is an amazing lecturer and sums up the topics wonderfully. I personally hate chem so it has been a challenge to do good, but as long as you go to lectures, do HWs and LEs, and do the orange packet practice problems, and everything makes sense, you are going to get a good grade. Don't be me and forget to use orange packet to practice!
Chemistry is a hard course with all the orange book and practice needed. However, Dr. Anderson is such a great professor. He is funny and genuinely wants people to understand the material. He is also great during office hours. I had him for CH301 and CH302.
Dr. Anderson definitely has a lot of passion for the subject and makes his lectures to be pretty fun and engaging. The only drawback of this class is the dependence of your grade on the tests but the class has so many supplemental resources(some of which you have to use) that will help you but don't feel you have to commit to every practice problem
I really enjoyed Dr. Anderson as a person, but his exams were really tough, especially compared to the other chemistry teachers. You definitely have to do lots of extra practice on your own to get the material because he makes the exams much more difficult than in class/homework problems.
If you're looking for a CH 301/302 professor, take Anderson! He's a great lecturer and is amazing at dumbing down concepts so that anyone can understand them. I will say, his exams can have some tricky problems, but there's a cheat code: do the orange pack! If you pay attention to lectures and know how to do each practice problem you WILL get an A.
Dr. Anderson's class was definitely not easy but you always need to study ahead. His tests are not always straightforward but if you know your stuff you'll be fine. Re-Do every single practice problem given and utilize office hours. He is a super approachable guy and if you stay on top of things you'll do great!
Great person but good luck. Take Laude if you want a good grade in the class.
Honestly this class was enjoyable and not too difficult. Dr. Anderson is a very engaging person, he's funny and loves what he teaches. To do well in this class you do have to do a ton of practice problems and test prep, (orange course pack) but with that being said, once you do that exams are straightforward. Best out of the trio in my opinion.
Dr. Anderson is a great professor who cares for his students. Participation is important!!! Dr. Anderson keeps track of your participation in Ed discussion, Canvas, class/office hours attendance, and emails you send him. If your a borderline case, he will use your participation in these things as an excuse to bump you up. He wants you to succeed!
Dr. Anderson is a great prof! He has a super lenient grading policy, which really helped me make a comeback after barely passing/failing the first two tests. His class is exam-heavy, but once you learn how to study (do the orange book questions starting at least a week before the test), then you should be good!
Took Anderson b/c Laude's class conflicted w/ my schedule. Anderson is funny and genuinely a good guy. I was able to understand + pay attention to his lectures (his lecture notes are my style of learning compared to Laude's), but his tests and grading policy is a lot harder. Grades on tests are a reflection of the work you put into the class.
85% of the grade was based on tests, but with the policy of an optional final OR two midterms dropped, there was a lot of generosity/wiggle room. You will need to study, but Anderson was flexible with the LEs/homeworks/iclicker and his lectures were useful. Best prof for learning the content at your own pace while getting a good grade.
Originally took Anderson for CH 301 and liked him so much that I took him for 302 too. He's passionate about what he teaches and I was never too distracted in any of his lectures because he was good at keeping my attention. The tests matter and attend office hours bcs they give you that extra oomph you need to do well. Also DO THE ORANGE BOOK!
Lectures are helpful just don't fall behind on iClicker (participation). The books he tells you to buy in the beginning of the year are unnecessary. You can pretty easily self-study for the class with his slides and Khan Academy. Tests are pretty straightforward and you can get an A if you study the night before a test.
Dr. Anderson is a great person and incredibly intelligent, but I could not, for the life of me, get a good grade on anything. I studied weeks before exams, attended all lectures, practiced problems over and over again, and still did bad. The class feels easy but my morale is so low now...questioning whether I am even smart enough for med school.
Dr. Anderson was honestly a god send this semester. He was super available when I had questions and really does care about his students. I'm not very good at chemistry and he really did make class enjoyable and easy to understand.
His lectures were very engaging. His tests are on the tougher side (all multiple choice), but he gives you so many resources to prepare (do the orange book and his old practice tests)! You have to put in the work, but he truly wants to see his students succeed. If you keep up with the homework and go to office hours, an A is definitely achievable.
Lectures are very engaging and explain concepts very well. He is super chill and always open to respond to questions. Class is test heavy but exams are fair if you study. Do the orange book and you'll be fine.
Dr. Anderson is an amazing professor. He gives you all of the resources to excel in this course. I would recommend going over LEs, practice exams, and OFFICE HOURS. The orange course pack is alright, there are a lot of advanced topic in there that are not covered, but I enjoyed the practice problems as they really drill and kill the information.
If you don't have a strong chem background from high school, be prepared to spend most of your free time on this class. He truly is a great professor but if you struggle with chem and want to make a good grade- take Laude. Anderson's tests are made to trick you (his words not mine) so it can be really disheartening at times. GO TO OFFICE HOURS
Anderson is an engaging prof who provides ample resources. The class is test-heavy, but doable if you do the orange book, practice exams, and use tools like unstuckstudy ai. Attendance is a must.
Best chemistry professor ever! Took me from failing chemistry in high school to becoming a tutor. Never need to attend class, his lectures are hilarious and thorough. Extremely well-organized class, and grading was clear and consistent. He taught every concept in multiple ways, so it really made you think. Extremely forgiving late policy!
This class had a lot of material to cover, but not only did we get through it, but Dr. Anderson explains concepts super well. He has a wonderful sense of humor that lightens up the classroom and makes learning fun.
Good teacher but often rambles about the topics discussed. Won't answer your questions directly but try and help you find the answer yourself. Tests are long
(Fall 2023) As someone who took and dropped AP Chem in high school, this class was surprisingly easy. A well-structured class, lots of examples, and a professor who genuinely wants you to succeed made it feel possible to do well. Buy the orange book, not the blue one, unless you need those slides on paper for whatever reason.
TAKE HIS CLASS!! He truly was an amazing professor. The labs can feel long on some days, but it truly is a fun class. You learn a lot. Go to the review sessions. Homework is very easy, and the first exam is the hardest. I would 100% take his class again. Expect surprises on exam days.
