He is the best! My favorite professor so far! He loves lecturing and really knows what he's talking about. He also has a great sense of humor. I promise you will learn, even if you don't necessarily want to. He's an easy and forgiving grader. I'm currently looking for ANY other classes he might be teaching next semester. Take him!
Best teacher ever!He only makes you do 4 essays in a semester. He is really funny and lightens up the mood in class. Never wanted to miss a class.
Dr. Artese is definitely one of my favorite professors so far! He is really witty and very understanding. He actually makes english FUN.... weird i know. I would highly recommend him!
If there's one thing I ask of you guys, it's that you take his class. He's awesome!
Great professor, only four essays a semester. You have to read your book because you never know when he will quiz you over the reading. He makes the class fun, hes very witty.
Good class. Didn't too much like that he wants you to us his style of writing. Three essays one research. Oh yeah, you're not able to write on our own topic. The class picks the topic as a whole. Read the chapters too!!! Random pop quizzes!!
PERFECT CLASS FOR SLACKERS! You'll only need to read 2 of the 20 stories he assigns. He only cares about the 2 essays worth 62% of grade. You NEVER have to participate, you can watch sports, play video games, & be on Facebook during class. Don't worry about studying for the 2 tests because you can fail both & all quizzes & still pass with a B.
Super easy but very boring. If you care about literature at all, this class isn't for you. Pay attention in class, because that's all that will be on the two short tests. His grading of papers is a little inconsistent, because everyone does fine even if they only write plot summary.
He is one of the best professors I have ever had! He is really funny and we joke around in class how bored we are and he just laughs and keeps going. You only have to write like 4 essays and they're only 3 pages. I got A's on most of them and nothing lower than a B. His class is super easy so take him. I will again!
Amazing Amazing Amazing. The best college professor I have had thus far. I would advise taking him for this class! He is incredibly understanding, and will help you with any issues! He does not want his students to fail, so he will always help you via email!
interesting class, 2 writing assignments, random pop quizzes and 4 tests. pay attention and you should do fine.
Professor looks and sounds like the actor John Levitz.
He is pretty cool but not as easy as everyone thinks he is. Not clear at all and has random quizes no ones prepared for. DONT TAKE HIM trust me Ive always been a great writer and got a B
Great and funny teacher, hardly any work just alot of reading, he does occasionally give pop quizzes just to make sure you read but they only count towards participation. Make sure you do good on the paper and you should do good in his class.
Amazing. Simply amazing. He is so funny and he does have a tendency to rant but all his assignments are so easy. Really glad I chose him for my first semester! No tests, just papers. Really EASY.
Artese is great! He is very funny, fair, and knowledgeable. He keeps the class entertaining while staying on track. There is reading to be completed before every class and then very infrequent surprise quizzes covering the readings. Two tests, two essays--both easy. Would definitely recommend, especially to those that appreciate nerdy things.
He's a talker. Not as easy as everyone says. A lot of reading. Just an overall boring class that I found hard to stay involved in.
4 essays, a bibliography, and participation. Very little preparation for class. No structure or power points, just fairly boring "seat of the pants" verbal lecture over nothing too important. Some assigned reading and exercises. Sort of difficult As and easy Bs on papers. Easy A or B if you show up to class. Bring your laptop and get on reddit! :)
I'm an English major and I'm not sure how he wiggled his way into being a teacher. Class is very very very very boring. I cannot stress this enough. I hardly attended class because of this and many have failed the course for NOT attending, so please go anyway. You can make an A, but my entire class would agree to not take him. He is too boring...
Artese is by far my favorite teacher at KSU. I took two of his classes. He is great because his approach to the subject is different from the bored housewives we had in high school. He is really funny and tries to make everyone laugh. He is clear about the assignments and essays and will even revise your essays before they are due. Take him!
You will have a tough time if you don't do the reading and pay attention in class. His tests reflect the excerpts he talks about in class. He is pretty generous when grading. I won't say don't take him, but expect to put some effort in. No extra credit opportunities. Doesn't really like answering emails. Really funny guy!
He is a wonderful professor!! He really tries to make his lectures interesting. He is very helpful when it comes to questions and always replies to emails in a short amount of time. There are pop quizzes (there isn't makeup for these so always show up to class!), so be sure to follow the syllabus on what chapter to read! GREAT PROFESSOR!TAKE HIM!
he likes to talk a lot and sometimes will drag stuff on for forever but he's nerdy and funny and its awesome. there are only two tests and these 2 analysis paper things. the analysis things are pretty straight forward but the tests are difficult if you dont pay attention. take good notes because he talks about stuff thats on the tests. 5 pop quizes
This class was pretty easy. He literally curved the test 30 points and grades stuff really easy. He's super nice and cares about his students. His tests are pretty hard, but if you pay attention and take notes your be fine. He doesn't want to fail students.
2 tests, 2 really short essays. Essays are basically free A's if you have any writing skills at all. Key to tests is, if he projects book on board and something is underlined or marked, then do it in your book, because tests mainly have you identify which lines go with which passages. Tests are curved also, enough to get you an A in the class.
Simple class, 4 essays which were interesting topics and worth writing about. A couple of homeworkclasswork assignments that were easy. Let out early most of the time, two times because he was going to a Hawks game. Really funny, approachable guy. Taking him next semester for literature.
Attendance is mandatory. Classes are pretty boring but overall this class is a pretty easy A. I worked pretty hard on every essay and finished the class with an A. Just don't slack and you'll be fine. Very funny guy.
attendance is not mandatory. 4 essays which you should be able to get an A on. tests are tough, but he curves them
Other than the homework assignments that he's sometimes vague about (as in, you won't remember him assigning it), he's pretty easy. VERY lenient grader, accepts things late usually, and makes some of the lectures semi-interesting. If you're halfway what most people would call "intelligent", you should come out with an A if you show up.
I love World Lit., but the reading material was pretty dry. Nontheless, Mr Artese made it interesting. It was a big class, but he loves discussion and is pretty engaging. Easy tests if you read (stories are all written very differently, just remember that, it'll help you on tests). Just have an opinion and you can easily get an A for essays. Take!
He's a great professor. The classsubject is just awful. There's a ton of reading and it is very boring. My recommendation is to read summaries of the passages he assigns and then attend class for his explanations. His lectures are pretty much mandatory to passing unless you can interpret old literature easily. He makes the class bearable.
Wonderful Professor!
He is very nice. Thinks he's funnier than he is. Pretty easy grader and he let's you send him a draft and he will critique it. 4 essays and some homework assignments. Would take again.
I started out this semester really liking Dr. Artese, but as we did more and more papers on very similar topics, I started to get bored with his lectures. I think he's a really good professor though. He lets you send him your papers to look over before he grades them, and isn't a super tough grader.
Professor Artese is a great guy. I really enjoyed him as a person. As a professor, he is pretty good as well. He is sometimes a little too vague on assignments, so you have to ask a lot of questions to completely understand what he wants from you. However, I really enjoyed his English class, and I'm taking him again this semester for ENGL 1102.
Professor Brian is pretty cool. His lectures can be boring and no one likes to attend the classes becuase its english, but other than the topic of english not being interesting to most students, he is an awsome prodessor. He's really nice, responds to emails quickly. Not many exams or papers. His assignments are easy if you know how to write.
Really nice guy. Criteria for papers isn't totally clear, but he seems to like disorganization. Just write kinda sporadically and mimic the sample paper and you should be good. Says he'll give pop quizzes, but only gives 1 or 2. Pretty funny and approachable. You won't learn much, but it's a simple class. Very picky about page count on papers, btw.
Wonderful guy. English, poetry, and writing are not my thing so it wasn't an easy class for me but he made it very enjoyable for someone like me who has a math mind. He gives three short writing assignments (no more than 2 pages) and then two multiple choice tests. No final. If I ever had to take English again I would try to take him again!
There were 3 short writing assignments (less than 2 pages, basically tells you what to write in class) and two 30 question multiple choice tests. No final. He says there are pop quizzes, but we only had 1. If you're good at English, it's a SUPER easy A. If not, you'll probably still get an A or B. Attendance is "mandatory" but he never checks.
Great Professor. If you're going to take ENGL1101, take him.
Dr. Artese is awesome. Reading is kind of heavy but it is a lit class. Most of the stuff is interesting. He is super easy to listen to and keeps the class entertaining. 3 papers and 2 tests and maybe some quizzes here and there. Would totally take again.
Professor Artese is a really nice and interesting guy. He lectures a lot in class but keeps it interesting. There are only 4 essays throughout the whole semester but the criteria can be kind of vague. There are a few pop quizzes on the reading. Not many assignments and an easy grader. Take him if you get the chance.
Nice guy, rambles a lot and repeats himself in class. He tells you about an essay coming up but doesnt actually give you the criteria until a few days before. Hard grader even though he doesnt explain what he's looking for very well.
Super funny, he will tell you so much about what to write in the essays that by compiling his info onto one page and organizing it you basically have your rough draft. BUT ONLY if you ASK. He tends to volunteer the info if you ask a question but will not just bring it up. Reach the page count and if you can write a 5th grade essay you will get a A
Very impersonable teacher . Tests are extremely hard and unclear. If you want a teacher who gives feedback and support, this is not your class. Hard Lit class!
He's a nice teacher. His lectures are entertaining although not always helpful to his tests. There is a lot of reading and pop quizzes. I felt that his criteria on his papers were unclear but he allows you to send them in before the due date for him to look at. He doesn't tell you about the papers until the last minute but they aren't too long.
He waits till the class period before an essay is due to give you the specific topic and what he is looking for. He talks about the most random things and assigns a lot of reading and there are stupid pop quizzes over it. He takes .5% of a point off your grade for every quiz you fail and rounds it up so if you only fail one you get 1 full point off
He is very nice and tries to be funny but he tells us about each essay topic last minute.. and his homework assignments are very unclear sometimes. Attendance matters if you want an A. Not an easy grader but not necessarily tough. He is very understanding when you have an issue or conflict with something. His class doesn't take much effort.
Not a bad class, he talks all of class and sometimes its hard to follow. 4 essays (which he doesn't explain in depth until the class before its due) and grades pretty easy. Overall not bad at all just extremely boring.
He doesn't explain assignments and essays well. He gives you the essay topics last minute.. he doesn't grade hard. Every essay i thought i did bad, I at least got a B. He is really nice and lenient. I wouldn't buy the textbooks if I were you.
Attendance is not mandatory, but he makes classes interesting. He allows you to email him your papers before they are due to check them before you submit it, just ask him! Some of the readings are long and difficult to understand but he clarifies them in class. Curves the tests, and they are not very difficult if you go to class.
Somehow he teaches the class in way that makes it really easy but somehow I'm still learning something. The homework assignments are usually pretty short. Sometimes he's late (to class and in grading), but he's usually reasonable in postponing essays. There were four essays, another assignment, and a participation grade. He gives good feedback.
He's a pretty funny guy, but also different from other English teachers I've had. He focuses much more on analyzation, almost to the point of over-analyzation. It wasn't hard but it was just different from how I was used to writing papers. I did well on all the papers, even when I thought I did bad. I enjoyed him as a professor, he's just different
Funny, goofy guy. Gives great feedback, &if you email him asking for help on papers, he'll send your paper back w/ comments on how to make it better. Every paper except the final one was rhetorical analysis. Not always clear on assignments. He passed around an attendance sheet but forgot a lot. Can have 3 absences before he starts taking off points
Great teacher! He tends to talk a lot but he tells you exactly what he wants for your papers and the class is an easy A
I definitely liked him, but his class was a bit weird. Pop quizzes were rare, but the questions were pretty obscure. We wrote 4 papers mostly analyzing covers of The New Yorker, and they were pretty easy. He doesn't give back busywork, so you'll have to ask him how you're doing. Overall, it was a pretty easy class.
AVOID AVOID AVOID! Worst professor ever. He never on topic and forgets what hes saying. He has two tests and 3 papers and lots of pop quizes. His tests are insane. You get a passage and have to know what author or page number. He grades so slow, so you dont get grades till a month later. He curves so that's nice but it's not gonna help you.
Lecture heavy and takes a long time to grade assignments. 3 essays, a midterm, and final. No study guide provided and tells you to create your own study guide. His lectures are confusing because he'll randomly go from page 7 to 140 instantly. Lots of reading and be prepared for plenty of pop quizzes.
Funny guy and over all truly cares about student success. He doesnt require attendance but if you dont show up for the explanation of the readings life will be harder. Random pop quizzes and 3 decent writing assignments, plus a few tests is all there is to look forward too but definitely an easy grade type of class.
He assigns some essays throughout the semester as well as some in class activities. He is really funny and understanding. He gives good feedback on the essays IF YOU ASK HIM FOR HELP. Email him if you are struggling. I would take his class again for sure. I learned a lot from his class. Just show up and be willing to work on your writing skills.
Not clear on his expectations, hard to reach outside class
I really enjoyed Professor Artese. He was not only super chill but also allowed you to send him your essays for feedback before they were due. Attending class was not mandatory but he does give pop quizzes but they are super easy. He was really helpful and my best professor so far! I highly recommend him.
Honestly, I don't understand why people complain. He goes over each of the stories or poems and just write down what he says because you won't remember what they are about by looking at the titles. Your note is the perfect study guide for the tests. His class is not pressured at all. Just go to his class, you will pass.
Professor Artese is definetly one of the funniest teachers i've ever had. He is very eccentric and takes a second to get used to but once you do he is great. His class is fun to be in and I always was intrested in what he had to say. He focuses more on the meat of your papers and allowed us to avoid conclusions all together. Not a hard class.
He was very nice, but the course content was scattered randomly. We read texts from completely different parts of history with seemingly no rhyme or reason. Writing assignments are short and easy, but it's difficult to know what he expects, even with rubric. Fairly easy GenEd, not worth it if you're really trying to learn how to analyze literature.
Artese was a solid choice for a World Lit teacher! Where many other lit teachers toss paper after paper at students, Artese only had us do 4 out of class writing assignments, each only about a paragraph in length. He tends to linger on small details during lecture but the two tests are still easy to pass. Just make sure to study!
I've never made a B on an English paper before I took him. He's vague, monotone, and the readings are absolutely awful. He takes forever to grade assignments. SO much reading. Does not respond to emails. Several pop quizzes throughout the semester. Nice guy but would not take again. Graded by few things. Tests were pretty easy if you studied.
he has no idea what he is doing. His vague quizzes & grading are based off only his opinions. We had an ethics essay using only our opinions, no facts AT ALL. He kept using philosophy terms wrong & we had to write from the style of those terms. I told him what my phil teacher said was the right way & he said my phil teacher was the one who is wrong
One of the worst professors I've had at KSU hands-down. WAY too many boring/ uninteresting readings. Rambles like crazy in lecture and they are honestly useless. He requires you to buy over 3 books that you will barely use. Do not buy them. Ive been a straight A student in Literature and it is quite literally my major, but he made me hate English.
This professor has the worst outside of class communication skills, it's sad. His readings are honestly pointless and its not as easy as reviews claim it to be. Its bc of the lack of clear grading instructions! There's 2 tests and 3 assignments in the class and he expects you to read unnecessary amounts of boring literature. Would not recommend :)
Artese can be a serious pain. He's takes a couple of days off or he's late to class. His assignments are not easy and never direct. When you try to talk to him he never understands and unsure about some of his teaching. Do not take him if you want a super hard class.
He expects too much from his students. He wants you to overanalyze almost every essay in class. He was very vague with his requirements for assignments. I would not recommend him; there are better professors.
Artese is very entertaining, keeps you interested. Always pacing around, but funny and actually cares about the literature. Makes it understandable, which is important because a lot of the readings are way out there and too old. He'll give detailed comments if you email him your paper early.
Prof Artese has become one of my favorite professors this semester! His lectures are helpful and entertaining especially if you participate. He is very helpful if you have any questions and doesn't talk down to you. Also don't buy the books I've found everything I've needed off free PDFs. Would take again.
Seriously a really nice guy. Kind of a tough grader but if you find that you are having any issues he won't hesitate to help! I emailed him at 12am once and he responded within 3 minutes. He cares about your grade and his students. I'm super glad I took his class. He's a saint compared to other professors.
He has a very dry sense of humor I don't think a lot of people share. He gives good lectures and his papers were usually about pretty fun things to write. He didn't use the textbook often, just for some pop quizzes in class. The quizzes don't contribute to your overall grade much. Overall a very good professor and a fun class if you like writing.
I took this class fully online. Professor Artese was relatively easy and the class was pretty interesting. He grades by few things and his assignments are based on non traditional things; comics, star wars reviews and magazine covers. He offers many times to read your draft via email and provide feedback, take this opportunity if you want an A.
Mr. Artese was fun online. He only has 2 major papers & 2 short reading assignments that he grades. For most of the class, he just talks about what we read for class. If you email him your paper a day or 2 before it is due he will check your paper for errors. He is usually more concerned with the content of your paper & how you followed the rubric.
He was a very nice and understandable professor! However, I don't feel like I learned much from him. He's a VERY tough grader. I had to work very hard to get a decent grade. He takes a while to read emails as well. Also, he's willing to read rough drafts for major essays but email them early so you can have time to perfect your work.
Professor Artese is a great teacher and loves literature. He may talk a little excessively and stray off topic but if you listen to what he says and read the novels then you have an opportunity to get an easy A. If you dont attend class then its definitely going to be hard to pass.
Professor Artese is a great person and fun. But, if you are the type of person to want your assignments graded in a timely manner then he is not the class you should take. w
he is a great teacher
Artese's lectures were interesting, but not captivating. Homework assignments were expected, but not graded based on accuracy. The issue I had with him as a professor was his inability to understand the perspective of others. Artese is not the type of person to tread far beyond his personal opinion, resulting in an unnecessarily difficult semester.
Absolute waste of time going to class. No structure or student engagement in class. Turns lights off and rambles about whatever reading is important that day. Literally seems like he's freestyling and just talking about whatever comes to mind about the reading, adds zero literary insight/analysis whatsoever. Horrible communication and pop quizzes
Funny and engaging. I went in to this class a pretty good writer, but he inspired me to become much better. Gets off topic on tangents sometimes and could do so for 40 minutes. Never in a bad, boring way, though - its always a class conversation about something random. Has pop quizzes, but they get lumped in as a small part of participation.
do not take. he doesnt care about the class and just assigns dumb assignments. his tests are pointless and he gives dumb reading assignments. pop quizzes lower your grade if you fail some
This is my 2nd time taking Professor Artese. He's a great guy, very easy to communicate with outside of and after class. He might not be the best at arriving to class on time, but I've always liked him as a professor. He gives great feedback on your essays so next time you know what to correct. Do the work, study and you should get an A
Super easy, would recommend you go to class because sometimes he will do in-class assignments. Essays were pretty easy, and he'll even proofread them before you have to hand them in.
the professor is a nice guy and is easy to communicate with but the lectures have no structure and he just rambles about the assignments that he assigns. all the assignments and essays required excessive analysis to the point where i was pulling details out of thin air. constantly confused in this class!! do not recommend!!!
This professor I really liked at first but towards the end of this semester I was bored to death!! His assignments were based on analysis & rhetoric mainly from comics and he is a very opinionated grader.. if you don't do it how he wants, he'll give you a low grade. His lectures are all over the place & he fidgets a lot and makes it distracting.
Took him for American Lit and it was the best class tbh. Super easy and chill, 2 small writing assignments and 2 tests. If you show up for the lectures and remember what he talked about you will for sure pass. Couple of pop quizzes so you should keep up with reading but they are super basic questions.
Readings due almost every class. We read 2 books and multiple smaller readings. The only things graded are the two tests and two writing assignments. The writing assignments are fairly easy and straight forward. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he will give occasional pop quizzes.
Artese is a great teacher but the subject is very boring. He does assign readings for each class but the tests are really easy if you can remember the names of different authors. The writing prompts are very clear and there are only 2 assignments and 2 tests. His teaching style is a collaborative lecture and he likes to engage with his students.
His lectures seem to be whatever he happens to think of saying in that moment and seem very boring but if you can get into it, they can be interesting. I think he's a very funny guy who definitely loves literature but he's also a very slow grader with only having 4 graded assignments
You are set if you show up during the first half of the semester. After the second paper we had to turn in, everything he tried to teach us became repetitive, and I found that sticking to one particular pattern of writing (which he teaches the first two weeks) will get you through his class quickly. Sending an email is the easiest way to reach him.
Overall, his class is easy. He does a well job at explaining the assignments, however, some of his lectures are very random and off topic which is not helpful in terms of being able to succeed in his class. He is also very disorganized and assignments are sometimes hard to find.
He likes to talk, a lot. Gets off topic often. Super funny guy, and his tests are super easy. I barely did any of the readings, and got a 100 on a test because he discusses all the passages that will be on the tests. He does pop quizzes randomly, but they hardly count towards anything on your final grade.
He is pretty chill and nice, but the class itself is not interesting. It is October 6th, and I have not received a grade for any assignment yet. We have had a pop quiz, an exam, and a writing assignment, and I do not know what I have in this class or if I need to drop it. There is nothing for the midterm grade either. I do not recommend.
Literally the worst proffesor you could ever think of!!! Don't take this class even if that is your only option. His class is soo boring, he is a tough grader and he dosen't even grade on time. He uses filler words when he is talking, so you wouldn't really understand what he is saying. He also does In class activities which is mandatory.
this professor did not have any structure or organization in this class specifically. he does not put in grades on time and does not care if you are failing or passing his class. he will put in grades at the last minute (last week of the semester). you will not know where you stand in his class at all. do NOT take him. horrible communication.
I took his class 33% online. The class was okay. His lectures were drawn out, confusing, and tiring. Instructions and/or words would be unclear at times. There were 4 essays, some homework, in-class assignments, but no quizzes or tests. Not a heavy or too difficult workload. Textbook was never used. The class was pretty easy, I'd say take him.
Mr. Brain doesn't input grades on time so you will not know if you pass his class or not. He recently just added a grade a day before midterm grades is due. I would not take his class again.
LISTEN TO ME!! Do NOT take this professor! WORST professor ever. Had him online. He never posted our discussions on time. On top of that TWO of ALL of our grades have been posted at it is the end of the semester. Everyone is stressed. None of us know who's passing. He starts your grade at 93% and it only goes down from there.I took him for 20thCent
Brian Artese is the worst English professor I've had at KSU. He's terrible at grading, waits until the last minute for assignments, and thinks everything an author says is powerful/woke like it's not that deep my guy. I spent every class playing Tetris because he was just so boring. Please do not take him, especially for ENGL 1102.
He is a very opinionated professor, and occasionally snarky, take that as you will. Three writing assignments, two tests. All easy. He takes half a point off of your final grade each absence after your 3rd.His tests aren't bad, just attend his lectures, he talks exactly about how he interprets the texts and that is exactly what's on the tests.
Had no regard for students, and their grades. He would cancel class 10 minutes after it was supposed to start (multiple times) and would reschedule tests and send everyone home when they had already shown up at 8:30 am. After rescheduling the tests at the last minute, he would not allow for retakes. Even if you couldn't make it that day.
Professor isn't bad. Does ramble a lot, but when he finally gets around to making his point it was actually pretty interesting. I didn't even have to read too much to do pretty well on the tests as long as you participate and pay attention in class.
This professor was great! The course was definitely on the harder side, but as long as you attend his lectures and take notes, you'll do well. He is extremely knowledgeable and very passionate which rubs off onto his students. I really enjoyed this class, even though it was pretty tough to do well.
yapper yapper yapper yapper sooo boring i cant stand being in that class he also takes forever to grade and is too theological
Professor Artese's ENG1101 class has mixed reviews. While some find his teaching style confusing, the workload is manageable. Engaging with the material and using helpful study tools like Unstuckstudy can make the class an easy A. Attendance is mandatory, so be prepared to participate.
This class is easy minimal homework aside from occasional papers or short paragraphs. Attending class is important due to frequent in-class assignments. The professor lectures extensively and often exceeds class time. Despite reviews mentioning pop quizzes, we didn't have any. My main issue was the grading process.
Everyone who has left a negative review for Professor Artese are people who want to skip every class and still get an A. Professor Artese is hilarious, engaging, and he is a very lenient grader. His tests are so easy that you only fail if you didn't attend a single lecture. He is very encouraging, and I loved his class.
He's fine. But DO NOT buy the textbook, he mentions pop quizzes but never actually makes one, do not know why he made us buy it. Waste of money.
He was cool, and kinda funny. Just attend class, he breaks down every passage and tells you whats on the test. Do not buy the textbook, save your money. He does also give pop quizzes, so be aware. Great professor though!
