Do not take class from this teacher. He does't know how to teach. He will let you study five different books for study, & let you write five pages for each book. In conclusion he does't have teaching gutttttttttttts.

Worst Prof. I have ever taken. One of those people that shouldn't be a teacher. You can't deny that he knows his "stuff". The problem is, he has little or no interest in teaching it. He seems more interested in his OWN side projects than being a professor. He is late for class, ALWAYS. Unclear on what he is grading on. NEVER RETURNS PAPERS!

Most people don't like his teaching, but outside of class he is much more likable. However he does not answer emails and if he does it is minimal or seems as though he did not even read what you sent him. He doesn't give work back most of the time and claims he will get it to you... he won't. be sure to know the study guides and terms for tests

Dr. Baker may be easy to get the C average but if you want an A you work does not matter - he has to like you. He is known for unfair grading to the department and needs to be watched by students from now! Please help by reporting any unfair grading from Dr. Baker to the Ethnic Studies Department! Just see how many ratings he has on this site...

This class was a waste of time. All we did was have class discussions on everyone's experience with racism. He rarely ever returns work & his lectures are completely uninteresting. I regret ever taking this class & I will never recommend Professor Baker to anyone.

Horrible teacher...didnt learn anything the lectures were extremely hard to pay attention to.Biased grader I did good all throughout the class getting high B's on all the assingments and know i didnt fail final at least got B+ and ended up with C+ doesnt make sense. Definitely dont take this class it was a waste and pointless!!

Dr. Baker is not here to teach but to intimidate. No matter what you say in class is wrong, just try it. This is extremely sad to see since he is one of the few Native American professors on campus.

Useless teacher. Knows nothing about the topic though tries to pass himself off as ultimate authority. Grades on a personal bias, never clear on what he wants from students. Attendance is mandatory, but pointless. Haven't learned anything from this teacher. All class is just talking about your opinions on an article so long as you agree w/ him.

ethn 140 the worst professor I have ever had. He "thinks" he knows everything but is unclear and unorganized. I had to drink redbull before his class to stay awake.

This professor is very unorganized,the expectations on the assignments are never clear.gives a lot of readings from the book and no lectures, which makes it hard to understand the material. He loves Native Americans and talks a lot about them. Coming to his class was pointless.If you want to learn and get a good grade,don't take this professor!

I have never taken such a useless class. The instructor is extremely disorganized. Three weeks and he has yet to return a two page paper. He asks for opinions on films shown in class but yet acts as if any idea shared is stupid. He looks for the most simple things about the film. If I didn't need it to graduate I would have dropped it early.

He seems like a nice person. Subject is interesting, but he is unorganized and almost impossible to please. He grades hard. Books are philosophical, yet you can never be "right". Will use class time to talk about current events. This will be my first ever C in college.

Lectures are whiny and boring. Essay prompts are extremely vague and leave you guessing as to what you should write about. I hated coming to this class. Plus he is EXTREMELY unorganized.

Most topics he says "on some level its this and some levels its not", so really there is no right answer. Takes forever to grade. Doesn't tell you what he marks you down on your paper, just gives a random grade. Unorganized. Told use to watch movies at home and then come to class next day and just watch it again bc some people didn't watch it.

Overall the class was a piece of cake, but boring to all hell. I don't know, maybe its because I'm not Native. VERY unorganized, and what matters most is his mood or thought process at that particular moment, so disregard the past. Yes, we did butt heads right before the final, and it was out of the blue. He takes forever to grade.

Grading based on 6 essays. Doesn't give good feedback. Doesn't return essays back in a timely manner but expects you to meet every deadline. Going into finals week and he has only graded and handed back 2 out of 5 essays we have done so far. Goes off topic a lot. Would not recommend to anyone.

A really Boring Professor! I would not take him again! If I had an option Between taking his class or jumping off a bridge, i think i'll jump off a bridge. He's a very rude professor. He gets annoying when he say "at some level". I wouldn't recommend this professor. VERY BORING CLASS!!!!!!!

Professor Baker sucks at teaching this course, but It was an interesting class. However, Baker was very rude and this made me not want to go to his office hours for help.

Boring! how a prof can take an interesting subject and make it awful is beyond me! I never would go to his office hours since he is insulting.

I put the tag of tough grader. He's tough because he takes what might be a good class and makes it boring. he is difficult to relate to because he is into his subject, but fails to pass on that passion to the students, at least in my case. I don't recommend taking this class from him.

He asks a question then tries makes you feel stupid for the answer. He is boring. I will never take this prof again.

SO ETHNOCENTRIC. Hes an east coast Native with the opinion that he is apart of the entitlement of being here first. Made disrespectful comments against Christians & white people. Felt very offended by the comments he led the students to make towards white people. My bf is a true CA Native from Hoopa & disagreed with half what was taught.

I will not recommend him for anyone. Not a healthy professor at all.

He does not grade at appropriate timing. DO NOT TAKE HIM. Students have given him feedback based on his course and he's still sleeping on it.

There were 4 books to read as well as articles. There was one paper due a week. Does not grade until the last minute. Spoke about him with the dean and he still has not changed. The midterm was three papers. Adds additional papers outside of the syllabus. We had to read a new book 2 weeks before finals. Make a GroupMe with classmates to survive.

I was eager to take this class & study NA culture, but this class focused on the history post Columbus which we are all well aware of. Baker assigned a book which depicted r*pe and didn't issue a trigger warning. 3 essays for midterm and 3 for final. every assignment was an essay. Poor communication, never knew our actual grade until on transcript

Not very accommodating or clear on instructions. His test windows are only 5 hours, doesn't consider if students may have work, emergencies or other things going on. He deducts points but doesn't leave any clear feedback. He says you "did a good good" but doesn't explain why he took off 5 points....

No feedback on papers, and he posts grades late. DON'T take this professor. It's like he wants you to fail. 0/10 experience.

I really enjoyed the context of the course itself but did not think much of the instructor. He gives poor and confusing instructions for assignments & often mixes up due dates. Most assignments are based off of reading a book or a paper and then writing a response. I would not recommend him, especially if you do not have excellent writing skills.

The worst professor I have ever had, and I mean that. Requires you to buy so many books. Multiple never-ending papers. He doesn't grade them until the semester is over which is unfair to students. You don't even know your actual grade. Don't take this class. I probably wrote more papers in this class than I ever did in an English course. STAY AWAY

Very rude and arrogant professor. This class completely stressed me out. He is unorganized and unclear on assignments. Don't take this class, it literally gave me a headache.

In all of my years attending school, this professor gives the most hw & it's an 'ethnic' course based on the Native American Experience. I have attended UC Davis as a Premed Major & Sac State as a B.S. CRJ major, both serious majors, and have NEVER had THIS MANY large assignments due every two days with pop quizzes and exams mixed in. Complete bull

I was very excited to take this class but the teacher sucks all the fun out of learning. Every week you read 100 plus pages and his midterms are a suprise quiz. No study guide, no explication on how the test is structured...you walk into class and BOOM you're taking the midterm.

This professor seems to not care at all about his students succeeding. He is super late on grading, and he also never gives 100% on anything, even discussion posts. There is so much reading in this class that just feels pointless, and then he expects you to come up with a several page paper on a super vague question that he asks about it.

I was so excited to take this class but he's one tough grader. You don't know what your grade is the whole semester. Constantly canceling class. Never really seemed fully prepared. Went to office hours for advice and received nothing. He's very nice as a person but not a good professor.

Grades like an uppergraduate level class. No one in the class ever had a perfect score in any assignment so you can figure out the rest.

He is a nice guy but not good at being a professor. He is an extremely picky grader and takes forever to grade. There is so much reading and is not clear on assignments and on the assignments he wants like 500 to 600 words and gives little to no feedback after he grades it. The midterms are also tricky to write.

Read the other reviews you'll get the gist. Awful experience, he used terms like blacks when talking about Black people, "illegal" when talking about undocumented people, and made rude remarks about people who struggle with mental health. The biggest insult is how harsh he grades giving how incompetently he runs his classes. At least be selfaware.
