He is the best teacher I have had. It is very apparent that he enjoys teaching and he is there to ensure that his students will exceed. He is very approachable and lightens my day. It is a joy to be in his class.

Excellent!!! This prof knows his subject and his audience which gives him the ability to communicate the material wonderfully. The subject is complex but Ballou makes understanding it easy. Ballou is the only Professor I know that can take a dry subject like Building Codes and make it a fun class! He is full of positive energy and he likes to do illustrations. His classes are always an adventure! You never know what to expect when he is teaching. I would definitely recommend him. He is my favorite professor!

Brian is a great teacher. He is loud and knows it. That isn't a knock against him. He keeps your attention and that helps you pay attention. He grades fairly and isn't trying to fail you. Definitely take another class with him as instructor.

Took Statics with Ballou and the class was very well taught. Everyone in the class did well even though it can be a tricky subject. Lectures were to the point and entertaining. Tests were fair and easy if you do the homework. Definitely recommend this professor.

There is a reason every time I think about college there is only one professor I remember. Brings a sense of excitement and eagerness for class when he paces through the door. He takes command of the room while easing the mood with Humor. You never knew what he was up to with his scenarios or literature although I never learned more than with him.

He not only helped you with homework when you needed it, his lectures went over a lot of what you'd run into in tests and homework. I wish he was teaching Strength of Materials this Spring, because I would take him again! Fun projects, keeps you awake, and makes class fun!

My first class with Ballou was amazing . He teaches his class with a lot of enthusiasm and makes class fun. I got A's in every class I took with him. I'm not saying the material was easy, but he teaches in a way that everyone can understand it. Rate My Professor does not give me enough words to write how great he is. Take all of his classes!

Professor Ballou is very engaging and you can tell he loves to teach. While arguably the material is dry and a chore to do, he at least makes it somewhat enjoyable.

Professor Ballou shows an amazing amount of energy when he teaches. It is hard to not be engaged in the material. He does assign homework, usually once a week, but it's not to difficult. The material is not really hard if you pay attention but if you miss class you can fall behind quickly. REQUEST THIS PROFESSOR IF AVAILABLE

Keeps you on your toes, Ill be surprised if you can sleep in his class, His energy level keeps you interested, no complaints, fair grading, didnt really need to use the book to pass the class, however it is needed for the class that follows

The BEST professor I've ever had and if you don't take him you'd be missing out on a lot. He's an outstanding person full of energy and creative ways to keep your attention and like learning the entire time you're in class. A true idol with a lot of respect and I'd consider a good friend. If only I could paint a picture that captures his character.

Absolutely amazing I wish I could take him for every class! So very engaging and makes learning easy. Show up to class and take notes and you'll be golden. Hw is worth 40% and is fair and not too long. Lets you use notes on exams and is overall an amazing and caring person.

He does an amazing job teaching and helping students grasp concepts. His examples in class relate directly to what will be on tests and the HW. He's got a great sense of humor and encourages participation from students. Also, keep an eye out for the $5 chipotle gift cards!

Professor Ballou is one in a million who cares, wants to see you succeed, and makes class very enjoyable. He comes to class prepared with plenty of demonstrations and compares everything we do in class to the real world. He only has 2 exams and a balsa wood bridge project which is so much fun. Overall the best prof ever I honestly considered changing to a different engineering because of him.

Professor Ballou is the most caring professor I have had at UA. He has dedicated his career to teaching people like myself and he earns every dollar of his salary. The class is an easy A as long as one tries, and the bridge project is unique and fun! Lectures were clear and exciting, and I understood every concept in his class. Take Ballou!

Brian Ballou is THE goat. Energetic lectures, transparent surrounding HW/exams, and tied together with a balsa bridge contest. While attendance is not graded/mandatory, he rewards student engagement with information on assignments & the occasional gift card. You'll see why he broke a department record for the fastest-filling Statics section.

Take Ballou if he is available for statics. He is the most clear professor I have had, and teaches in a way that you will barely have to reference material outside of his lectures. HW ~once/week on material learned prior(20%), 2 midterm exams(20% each), 1 group project(20%), and a final(20%). Generous grader, take home portions for midterms.

Definitely take him if you have the opportunity. He is super energetic, and he genuinely cares about his students' success. Make sure to participate in his class because you might get a gift card. Exams are open note/homework/textbook, and we were allowed to take home part of them.

He puts in so much effort for his students. There are multiple chances to get extra credit. He is always willing to help too if you are struggling in anything. I would have him for all my engineering classes if I could.

By far the best professor that I've had at UA (second-year student). Professor Ballou shows heart and soul in educating students, and is exceptional at making what would otherwise be a difficult course seem like a piece of cake. Not enough text to fully explain, but if you can take Ballou DO IT!!! Not a single negative I can think of. 100/10 Prof.

The University of Akron's Engineering Department is held together by Brian Ballou. I sincerely believe that this professor is the sole reason why our Construction department is the best in all of Ohio. He teaches things not taught at other Universities. Ballou spearheads the estimating class, and UA is the proud winner of 5 OCA competitions.

Brian Ballou is the real deal! Lectures are fun and exciting and class content is one of a kind. For this Site Engineering course we built our own textbook from notes and homework. Open-note, tests ensure you are using brainpower not rite memorization. We laid out a baseball field and played a modified softball game on it in the COOLEST LAB EVER!!!

One of if not the greatest professor I've taken a class with in college. Classes are always fun, engaging, and are honestly the best way to start the morning. Exams and the material to be learned are clear-cut without any grey areas, and I've left every class feeling prepared for whatever comes next, be it homework, an exam, or otherwise.

His lectures are very engaging, and he goes out of his way to answers questions if you are struggling on something. He is very caring and considerate to his students and wants them all to do well!

Best professor at the University. He makes class fun and worth taking. I always looked foward to going even though it was a night class. He is a really simple grader, really easy to understand what you got right/wrong. He is also very lenient with credit so it is usually pretty difficult to do bad in any of his classes.
