If you need credit for Health, take this man. I took his internet class and it was incredibly easy. He corresponds to your emails, it's just great. Take this guy, especially if you have a pretty full schedule.
Not happy at all with internet class. Essays were graded by TA's who didn't know what they were doing. I'm a former nurse and this class should have been waived, but they wanted their money. WAY TOO MUCH busywork and very little feedback. GET NEW TA's
EASY!! You dont really need the book, he hands out a sheet of what you need to know for the test and then goes through the information. Around 4 assignments which were not that bad and around 4 tests which if you studied his sheet are easy. Good class with intersting facts.
he is hilarious and is a totally into helpin the student succeed in his class
Barthel is such a friendly guy. He has a good heart. His course was informative and not hard. Not any reading really. Grade is based on tests and other assignments, so you don't have to be a perfect test taker. I really enjoyed this teacher. I recommend him!!
I took this class over the internet and kept in contact through email. He was awesome and seems like an easygoing, cool guy.
Wonderful teacher. VERY interested in his students and their well-being.
He is a really nice guy but doesn't explain things very clearly. Some tests were hard, some werent. Homework and projects were really easy and a lot of fun.
No need to buy the book. Funny guy, laid back most days. He gives a review sheet that you fill out and memorize during the semester. The final is comprehensive so keep your review sheets. There are 3 main assignments during the semester. Study hard for the tests and you'll be fine.
I took this class online. Easiest credit I have ever received. I procrastinated until the last week to do all the assignments and tests, and still received and A. I can't imagine how easy this class would be if you actually kept up all semester.
Take the on-line class. Just don't procrastinate until the end and it is a breeze.
took online, kind of lame. had to read everything, since he wanted you to not use the book on tests (yeah, people still did, but whatever)
He's a really nice teacher, I just don't think he does the best job of explaining what he's doing.
He is a nice guy but I do not feel that I learned anything. This class is supposed to teach me things to apply but you don't learn anything. No organization, no class structure. Lectures are speratic and not prepared. Easy A but no challenge or learning opportunity.
Easy class to do over the Internet! You can take the quizzes several times, and you can use your book for all tests except the final. There were a few easy assignments, and you'll get full credit if you do them. I'm happy I took this class over the Internet, instead of needing to go to class every week.
This class is a must for my degree, but I don't think I learned anything. He is a really nice guy and I like him as a person, but not a challanging class. And he really doesn't have any organization to the class.
This was an online class and I really found it easy to complete. Read the book and you will pass the tests. The quizzes are easy to pass.
Great teacher! Interested in student success. I read the book, used the study guides, attend class and got a decent grade
I did not learn anything from his classes. He spends most of the time talking about pointless things that do not apply to class at all. Easy A for sure, but you do not get anything out of it. He is a nice guy, but should be teaching 1st grade not college.
Way cool teacher who actually cares about the students. If you come to class, you'll do good and if you read the book you'll do even better.I came to class most of the time and stayed caught up and didn't get too stressed out.I could have probably read more.I feel fairly average and ended up with a B. If I studied more,I would have gotten an A or A-
Nice teacher, easy class. Really shouldn't have a hard time with it as long as you come to class and study for tests.
EASY A! There are three easy but time consuming project but if you do ther work you get an A. The tests are really easy if you just do the study guide, I never went to class and would always get 100 on the test. Nice guy but lectures are fairly pointless except he does give out answers to some questions on the test in class.
Brian is a fun character to have as a teacher. He is farily easy, especially if you use the study guides. Attend class, and sometimes you get bonus questions for the test. Not too much of a cheeky begger :). Great teacher overall though, would recommend him!
He was a very decent teacher. Important to go to class with your study guide, that is the key to this class. You could also just use the very specific study guides with the textbook and blackboard slideshows. Not hard, just do the work!
He is really nice, but very boring! His class is SUPER easy! If you go to class everyday with the study guide, then you won't need to book. His test are super easy if you have most/all the study guide done. Gives bouns questions during class sometimes. If you don't go, then you will need to book, other wise, don't get it!
I took this class last semester and it was incredibly easy. The lectures are extremely boring, but the material is easier than 3rd grade math. Go to class, do the assignments, take the tests, and you will get an A. If your going into nursing and you don't get an A out of this class, you do not belong in the field of nursing. Period.
Um, this class was kind of useless to me. :[
He's a nice teacher, an easy class. There is only 3 test and a final a couple assignaments(super easy by the way, he'll give you extra credit on test, and assig. He will give bonus questions in class, so go to class everyday, you wont learn too much, but it's an easy class.
Easy A. He gives answers to bonus questions in class, so attend. Also, he creates a study guide prior to each test that is very in depth. If you know the study guide, then you will EASILY get a 95-100%on the exam. His assignments are cake. REALLY nice guy. Willing to give extra credit if you befriend him and bring treats to class! DEF. RECOMMEND
I made that last comment. It was for Nutrition 1020, not 2060. I highly recommend taking him if you just need that A. If you want to learn Nutrition, then he may not be the best teacher. He is not the most exciting teacher and tells interesting jokes. BUT HE IS SUPER NICE!
Loved taking this class online! Very helpful in my daily life. One chapter test per week, three section exams and the final were all fairly simple. Study and you'll get the A. Good feedback and communication. Would take another class from him if I had the option. Few deadlines. Finish everything ahead of deadlines and he'll love you for it!
Super easy class. I took it online and it was the best thing ever. He gives you so many resources there is no reason you shouldn't get an A. Questions are usually straight from the text but he has links to other sources for help. If you email him a question he gets back to you super fast. Great professor!!
I didn't really enjoy this class, nor did I enjoy him. He seemed like a nice guy but honestly he drove me a little crazy.... well a lot crazy. We had to do 10 hours of community service which didn't make sense to me. His test were pretty hard if you didn't study or pay attention. I personally wouldn't take him again.
Waste of time-he doesn't teach much, but then will expect a TON of work at the last minute. Nice guy, but terrible teacher. Everyone walks out of his class 4 a reason. U watch youtube, photos, videogames, & he will talk 4 the first 45 min & then attempt to teach w/ 5 min left. If ur a real student & want to learn & grow, then take someone else!
This class was super easy! just got to class and he lectures for 25 or so mins and then you watch videos. just take the notes and you'll pass the test. its cake. and no you dont need the text book
This class was extremely easy but extremely boring. I don't think I learned anything from this class. All you do is watch youtube clips. If you want any easy class take Brian but if you want to learn something, take from Mary.
(online) CRAZY EASY. I took the entire course and final in less then one week. EASY EASY A
had 3 classes from him, no matter what class you take they are all the same, terrible teacher, i would of learned more watching the grass grow then go to his class
This is the 2nd class I have had from him. He makes attendance required so people will come. He gets mad at the guys for texting and not the girls. His classes are so boring and the longest 50 minutes. TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR!!
He really is a nice teacher. Just the content sometimes seems to be everywhere. Dont need the text book. A lot of writing assignment. there is also a community awarness project where you need 10 hrs of service then write aboout it. Overall I got a good grade in the class due to all the writing assignments not the tests.
He presents powerpoint slides in class, if you bring the study guide to class & fill it out - you'll be set for the test! There are a few writing assignments, but just get them done & they're easy. Barthel is willing to help you in any way that he can. I finished this semester with a 99! So, I'd suggest taking this class.
Brian is a very nice person and he tries his hardest. I would recommend getting the book. If you fill out his study guides you will do well on the tests.
I took his online Nutrition class. It was a self paced class. There's a 18 quizzes you get 2 tries open book to get 100%. Then theres 3 online tests closed book, and a final. The tests are hard. But it is possible to get an A. You're just going to have to get it done on time and spend time looking for the correct answers.
Dr Barthel is a great professor. His class is very easy.
Dr. B knows and loves Health! If you are serious about your education/career, his classes are fun. Buy the textbook and read it; attend class everyday and listen/participate; and ask questions if you need to. Dr. B is awesome!
Took online. Only had TA's grade things. I'm pretty sure his TA's did everything. Wouldn't take from him again.
Dr. Barthel and his TA were both very nice. If you take this class online you will deal mostly with his TA. It takes them quite a while to grade assignments. This class was overall pretty easy and I would recommend it for anyone who is required to take this class and isn't too interested in it.
Well planned class to move at your own pace to some extent. Work is easy, I procrastinated and did 7 chapters in a week and scored very high. Very easy, but lots of great info. The final is 100 questions and a little hard, but it is really just questions from all the quizzes throughout the semester. Easy A.
online class; Was really excited to take this class. Lack of quality and interaction ruined it Instructor never answered one email. TA did everything and was to overwhelmed; TA also never answered emails. very poor spelling and grammar. i.e. "except" is not spelled "execpyt." several questions had multi-correct answers, guess which one he wanted?
For those that like to self study the online class would be perfect. I prefer input and lectures. All semester you simply read the chapter then take a quiz or test. No deadlines. I felt very stressed and as though I had learned nothing at the end of the class.
This class was super easy. Everything word for word is online, except only a few don't match up. TA wasn't helpful, he was semi helpful. I recommend it if you need your Health general.
Only a few assignments. Mostly quizzes that you get two chances on and answers are given after the first try. Tests are hard and the few assignments take some time.
Attending class was required, but it was a waste of time. Lectures are more boring than reading the book. The class may be easy, but I didn't learn anything. I would much rather have been more challenged and gain some skills/knowledge. I will avoid this professor in the future at all costs.
He trails off on random tangents all too often, only some relating to the current topic. His study guides are unclear and he never gives definitive due dates for assignments (so they sneak up on you).
You learn everything yourself from the information provided on canvas and from reading the textbook need to fill out study guides. Chapter quiz's, unit tests. couple extra assignments. If you worked very hard for two to three weeks you could have the course done, but i wouldn't do it that way. i did two to four chapters a week
This class was pretty easy. I spent about an hour on it every week. I still learned a lot about health though.
Barthel gives students many ridiculous "filler" assignments and expects everyone to understand what he wants done without much explanation. He also is extremely self-righteous and thinks he is the bomb .com, which he is not. He likes to name drop and pretend that he is everything and a bag of rice, and it gets pretty old, pretty fast. Not the best.
There are a few papers, but I thought he was a good teacher. Take notes, study for the tests, do the extra credit he offers, and you will be set!
Most boring class, in no way was he organized! Even though it was an easy A, I felt like everything he had us study for, was not on the exams. One of the worst teachers I have had at UVU.
He's a nice guy, but I did not learn a thing in his class. He loves telling stories (and you'll be tested on his stories). There's no organization. He doesn't like discussion in his class, probably because he wants to talk. Although his class is an easy A, I wasted my time being in class (attendance required). Bring homework from other classes!
Dr. Barthel was a great teacher, I just didn't like the subject matter of the class. I had to take it for my Community Health Major. Modifying Health Behavior just didn't interest me to be honest. There is a quiz for each chapter in the book that are fairly easy. The tests are difficult, so make sure to study. One group project that is pretty easy.
Did not learn one thing from this teacher. The only reason I went to class is because it is required. All he did was tell stories about himself. No instruction was clear. Very unorganized. Not a hard class but it is a pointless class.
I really enjoyed the professor, but the class is pretty dull. Just the material is not all that exciting..I mean who enjoys learning about getting older. Brian is a great guy who definitely knows his stuff. I would take a class from him again.
I took this class online and it was the easiest A. I procrastinated the entire semester and was still able to get everything done. Everything is done from the book and there are only a few assignments. There's a quiz and test for each chapter and you'll do fine if you read the material. Final is basically questions from all the testsquizzes.
He is a good teacher, and he is pretty funny. I enjoyed this class.
His teaching methods are pretty confusing. He reads from his powerpoints in a mumbling way from the back of the classroom. His assignments aren't very clear. I wouldn't recommend this class--just lots of confusion.
Took this class online and it was SO EASY. I did all 17 chapters in a week and then once the final opened took it and got an A. The final is basically test and quiz questions, so make sure you know all of that material and do the study guide! The work was super easy, a quiz and test for each Ch and a few written assignments. Don't stress! Easy A.
Dr. Barthel is really a nice guy and he really knows his stuff about the community health world. That being said, he is not a good lecturer at all. His lectures are extremely boring, because he mostly just reads straight off the slides, which contain copy & pasted paragraphs usually straight from the textbook. Class isn't hard, just really boring.
Prof. Barthel gives a quiz and test for each chapter in the book. If you are honest and don't cheat on the tests it is extremely hard! You basically have to memorize each chapter. I emailed him many times during the semester with questions and he never responded! For me it was the hardest and most unpleasant experience I had at UVU. Don't take!
I took the online class. Quiz and test every week and assignments added on every once in a while too. Textbook required. It's not hard but it takes a long time to read and take the quiz and then study for each test. There's nothing special about the class. It's fairly straightforward and exactly what you'd expect out of an online health class.
I also took the online class. There was nothing particularly difficult, but it was incredibly time consuming. This 2 credit class devoured more time than my two 3 credit classes put together. Also, Barthel never once responded to any emails I sent him. Definitely not my worst college experience but I'd avoid taking him again.
Took this class online over the summer. It wasn't bad. Work at your own pace. Read the chapter, take a quiz (unlimited attempts), then a test. Only a few homework questions, really straightforward. All on canvas, so I used my book for everything. I would just skim the chapter, then find most of the answers online. Final was in the testing center.
I do not recommend taking any classes by Brian Barthel. I took his class because I was interested in the subject but taking his class made me dislike it. He made his tests much more difficult than they had to be. He does not reply to messages, apparently he does not check canvas which is very annoying.
Barthel is a great guy, kind and smart; just real BORING. He is extremely comparable to Ben Stein in 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'. Super easy class, he lectures the whole time in his quiet-ish voice. Easy to work with. 1 Research Paper, 2 Tests, 1 Older Adult Review, 1 Site Visit. Useful class for nursing home careers.
Maybe it's just me, but the tests we had to take were harder than all of my AP classes from high school combined. You had to seriously study that textbook cover to cover to get even close to 100%. Luckily, the final was a combination of all of the questions on the tests so if you can study those ones well, the final is easy.
Barthel is a really smart guy, he knows his stuff! It is very hard to sit through one of his lectures. He reads the power point basically word for word which makes me wonder why I can't just do that at home? He gets off on some weird tangents that has nothing to do with class. The class was easy enough. The test are usually a lot harder.
Awesome professor. Hes super caring. Will answer your questions and help you out if you need it. Theres tons of work, but You can work at your own pace. The final is just the regular test questions mixed around. Take this if you need health for your generals. Easiest A.
Barthel is really nice and caring. But his teachings aren't as great. We went over slides very vaguely. Wished he was more clear in his presentations. I was confused mainly what we were trying to learn. The textbook was what taught me more and going over the slides. You will get an A easily but the test are too dense and LONG if you don't read!
Boring Boring Boring , he is nice but boring and hard test , he just read the slides with no explain
If you want an easy A, this is your guy. If you want to actually learn something, look elsewhere. He always gets sidetracked during lectures and talks about his many trips around the world. All tests for most of his classes are just from the book. If attendance wasn't mandatory I would have never shown up and I still would have gotten an A.
I would never recommend taking a class from him. He really is a nice guy but his classes are EXTREMELY boring. I was never quite clear on what he wanted out of tests and assignments. I took him for 3 classes and hated every one of them. Just so incredible boring. He talks very quietly and goes off on tangents a TON. You practically teach yourself.
Professor Barthel is a super cool guy. I took the Health 1100 online class and the grading criteria is very straight forward. Every week you get the opportunity to choose out of a list of assignments, it is buffet style. One of the better online classes I have taken for sure! Grading is very straight forward.
This was a cafeteria style grading, you could choose which assignments to take based on the grade you wanted. I did not have to take the final because i had way too many points and was far above an A
Brian is amazing!!!! Most of the assignment were just based on personal opinions/logic. In the beginning of the class he gives you a 2 page study guide. While you read the book throughout the semester you can fill it out. Only one final. majority were multiple choice, however some required you to type the entire word, so memorize the spelling.
Professor Barthel is super awesome! His Nutrition 1020 class does not have any tests other than the final. Launchpad assignments and one discussion/ analysis are due each week and super easy to manage! Just fill out the final study guide and stay on top of work and you'll have a good grade.
The class is not super hard, but it does require reading and studying a moderate amount. Dr. Barthel is a very caring teacher. Only complaint is he grades a bit slow, but I am overall a fan and would take a class from him again.
This class is a fun one! You get to learn new things and the teacher will always give good feedback!
Dr. Barthel is a great professor! His study guide is very similar to the tests and for my class, you got to take each quiz twice. Sometimes he can get carried away with stories but you can tell that he is passionate about his work. He's a pretty easy grader and will help you pass if you ever need a little extra help. He also offers extra credit.
The only problem I had with him was that he is a pretty slow grader. I just finished the final for his class and he still hasn't graded 10 of my assignments. The way his class is set up is you have reading, a weekly assignment, a discussion, and a chapter assignment each week. But it's not hard and you can work at your own pace for the most part.
If you're looking for a relatively easy class to get a decent grade, Dr. Barthel might be your guy. If you're trying to learn about nutrition, definitely not. This man did no teaching this semester. I only learned through reading. While it is nice the only test was the final, the only learning you can do in this class comes from the textbook.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He's a nice guy but boring as heck. Just reads the powerpoints and tells his life story. I feel like it's a waste of my time everyday. If attendance wasn't mandatory, then I'd never show up. He's a super slow grader and his explanations for assignments are confusing.
Dr. Barthel is a nice person & I would love to get to know him as the man outside of class... but holy mother he is not a great professor. The class is easy enough but he reads verbatim was is on the presentation slides, the very same ones that are available on Canvas!! Seems like he has checked out of being a teacher bc he is so low energy as well
He is a really good teacher and seems passionate about what he does but definitely confusing how he teaches. He just goes off the power points he has which are on canvas. Talks about his life a lot which is funny but also boring. He gives study guides for the exams. Also gives extra credit
Homework was SUPER easy and he was accessible after and before class for help but you basically had to teach yourself. He would tell us stories in class and the only reason you would attend class would be to be reminded of upcoming assignments and quizzes. He was really nice and understanding but if you want to learn you'll have to teach yourself.
He was amazing he is so nice and will help you in any way he can. Lectures are always fun and entertaining. Everything you need to know from the chapter he will go over in class. Couldn't recommend more!
Took the HLTH 3000 class- Concepts of Death & Dying and thought that professor Barthel was fantastic. He gives great feedback on most assignments. Took this class as an elective to graduate and LOVED it. It was interesting, simple enough, but I still learned a lot. Would 100% recommend and take again.
I've taken multiple classes from Professor Barthel and don't have a single bad thing to say. He's kind, a fast responder, and not a harsh grader (but still supervises the work you submit). Gives the best feedback. Highly recommend!
The lectures are mostly engaging, but you'll have to teach yourself the material. Use resources like the textbook, study guides, and unstuck AI to prep for exams. Overall, a relatively easy class if you put in the work.
