Knows his stuff but very unpersonal

Dr. Bennett gives a lot of reading, but it isn't always necessary in order to do well on his tests. He's a very nice guy and as the course goes on you realize how much he wants to connect with his students without trying too hard.
Great guy! Great teacher! I really liked him and didn't think he was that hard at all. (and he taught an Honors course I took, too)
Very smart, but also rather unapproachable
I don't think he is hot, but 3-4 of the girls in my class did.
He's hard as hell... he gives way too much reading, it's ridiculous.
The best prof. I've had yet. Very intelligent. Extremely honest and fair. I learned so much about religion.
NOT VERY UNDERSTANDING AND CAN BE RUDE
I love this teacher... many people do not understand his sense of humor and therefore comes off as unapproachable to them... he has a very effective method of teaching, and gives out alot of extra credit, AS LONG AS you attend every class. :)
Very easy and understandable..Knows what he is talking about...Easy class...Papers are based on 0-50-100...>Easy Stuff
Very intelligent and sometimes speaks down to students, but fair and is availble if you need help.
I think he is a good professor except he does give a lot of reading, and can be unfair at times, but if you do his work and go to class regularly, you will be fine, don't be late either
easy class, ok teacher, but horrible personality, can be very rude and unclear... also readings he gives can be a pain
Very easy class. You may not understand his sense of humor, but if you go to class and follow his syllabus you will get an A.
Very easy...if ya do the work you will get an A no problem
It seems like lots of work, but it's not. Do the work, get an A. He's a funny, sarcastic guy that likes to get everyone involved.
Good teacher, somewhat interesting. Take the class if you want to know about the subject. Can talk down to students sometimes. Student can chose final exam or powerpoint presentation.
Is a jerk. Terrible teacher. Don't take him, he talks down to students and never listens.
terrible teacher...all around jerk...definitely talks down to students...
He's a great teacher. Do the work and you will easily get an A. I will definitely take him again
His class is easy if you go to class and do the assignments. I think he does of good job of convering the material

Do all the work and take notes and you will get an easy A, plus he's very funny, which makes it easy to sit through religion classes.
He's an ****. Deffinitly talks down to students. If you need help, dont ask him he doesnt care. DONT DO IT!!
That last post is a lie; Professor Bennett is awesome! He makes lots of jokes and makes religion easy-going. You learn a lot cuz all he does is use powerpoint to teach. He hates cell-phones tho and if it rings in class he'll hate you.
okay so prof bennett is hilarious and on our final we got 8 minutes of open notes because he made a bet with one of the swimmers that he could keep up in a lap race &lost. the problem? its open notes all semester then he hits you with this horribly hard final without even a full review session. i had an A before hte final and got a B+. so beware.
I was in the class where we could use our notes for 8 mins, i still got an A in the class. If you do the work and study minimally you will get an A. He is a nice guy. The final wasn't that bad at all.
This class was HORRIBLE!! Ur only grades were on books read outside of class on own time. I read the books and still failed the tests!! Not fair!!! Also the presentation/paper i worked my ass off for and only got a 70 because he said i included too much info? How freaked is that? Hes funnie but HORRIBLE teacher/grader!!! DO NOT TAKE CLASS
Talks down to students but yet funny at the same time...doesnt make sense huh? Had to read books OUTSIDE of class and still recieved poor grades-ridiculous. She be a little less critical of people and things. He loosens up as the semester goes on.
His class wasn't really that bad. He assigned 3 outside reading books that he quizzed you on but were not on the tests. His tests were fair. If you studied the notes, you would be fine. He was very opinionated, which sometimes seemed insulting, not really on a personal level but it was funny.
Awesome teacher. Talked down to students because he was better than us. Very easy, quizzes and tests were straight from the notes and from the books we were assigned. Would take him for religion again,
Lots of reading but if you do the reading and write the papers, its easy and you will get a good grade
Very interesting class. Funny professor...hates hockey?!
One of the best professors at Niagara - he is hilarious and it is cool that he uses novels rather than textbooks.
He is a very awkward person - like the elitist, intellectual type. But he every now and then the awkward things he says are pretty funny. He was a tolerable professor, tedious but thorough, and relied HEAVILY upon class discussion.
decent teacher however he is a very thorough grader and takes points off for little things which can add up after a while
You are crazy if you didn't like Dr. B. Either that, or you just didn't get his jokes! He assigned interesting books that were relevant to the course, and I loved going to every class. Just took the final, it was a breeze. And he's totally older man hot. Listen to him on WNIA.
Awesome teacher. Can be a tough grader on analytical assignments like essays/presentations but other than that he is crystal clear. One of the better teachers at Niagara.
Do NOT TAKE him!!! He is the worst teacher ever... extremely hard tests and thinks his class is soooo important even though its Religion. He schedules tests on the days before breaks so you can't leave. If you miss an assignment for anything besides a quiz/test then you can only get half the points max.
I've heard much better things about his 200 and 300 level courses than his 101. In 206, all you have to do is show up, take down the notes, and study a night or two before the exam. No papers at all in this class, just a few easy book quizzes and two unit tests that you NEED to be prepared for. But really, two tests is not that much to study for.
Dropped the class. Wasn't willing to help at all when asked to, making him a terrible teacher. He assigns books that he test on on top of additional test. No major writing assignments (No papers). Wouldn't recommend seemed like a nice guy but like I said wasn't willing to help.
Great!! The use of memoirs instead of textbooks made it interesting and affordable. :) Very straightforward, do the work and it would be impossible to do bad in his class.
The quiz for books are very tricky. The teacher ask very weird questions to trick people into answering wrong. Class covers the necessary material for the subject but my grade does not reflect my knowledge of the subject.
Dr. Bennett is a fair grader and a fair professor. He holds you accountable for your work and can be, at times, ruthless if you are unprepared. Do your work, which isn't even that much at that, and prepare for class. His book quizzes are effortless if you actually read the books and he tests on the lectures, not necessarily the texts. 8.5/10
Really funny guy. Don't have anything bad really to say other than theres alot of reading but th books are interesting and all we have to do is a 15 question quiz and if you just skimmed youll ace the quiz. Try to catch his little jokes he works into his lectures there funny. 9.7 out of 10
He's a nice guy and is willing to answer any questions that you have. The book quizzes are very easy as long as you read them. Only bad part of this class is his tests. I felt comfortable in review sheets and going into the test but they are very difficult. He makes them very tricky and confusing. Overall 7/10
Great teacher. Does slideshows and everything he covers in class is on the test so its really easy. Lots of books to read(3) with quizzes but easily manageable. Also no writing papers so that was awesome. Take him for an easy A.
Extremely reasonable and fun to talk to. Overall a great experience.
Bennett is fantastic! The 3 books you have to read are actually entertaining and the quizzes are easy. The tests are multiple choice, usually with an essay, and he drops the lowest one. He knows this is a 100-level class and doesn't make it hard for students. Funny guy too!
He is a great teacher. He knows this is a 100 level class and doesn't make it extremely challenging. The tests you take are horrible, and he drops the lowest test grade! you have to read three books, however they are super easy to read and the quizzes are super easy,. he also drops the lowest quiz grade as well. Over all very helpful!
He is a really good professor. Assigns two presentations instead of papers. Tests are easy as long as you go to class and pay attention. Have to read three books but they are easy reads.
He's a really nice and cool guy. He doesn't think hockey is a sport though, so he lost a point for that. His tests are pretty tough unless you really study and take good notes. He has you read 3 books that are all pretty good reads. Overall a good teacher for religion.
Bennett is the best! Favorite teacher of the semester. There are 2 tests but if you do bad on one, you can take the optional final exam and replace your lower grade. 2 group projects are kind of fun. Read 3 book through semester that are kind of interesting. Not a bad class. Highly recommend it with him.
Honestly, I was dreading taking religion (as someone who finds the whole concept ridiculous), but I couldn't have been luckier. The material is clearly explained, all group projects are in class, minimal test, and NO PAPERS. No textbooks except memoirs which is nice to reas and to pay for. He made the material accessible and interesting.
I check each semester to try to take another class with him! So reasonable with his expectations, which is a breath of fresh air for sure... Group projects were fun and easy grades, read the memoirs, respect when other people speak, go to class and you will pass. Such a great guy!!
My favorite teacher so far at NU. Hilarious sense of humor. Gives people chances to do well. Involves the whole class and tries to make everyone comfortable. This guy knows his stuff and it was a privilege to learn from him. If you can have him for religion, take him. My friends had other teachers and were always complaining.
Super fair class. The class is split up by 2 tests and there are 2 quizzes for each of the 3 assigned books, but books aren't on the tests. Be prepared to read and study if you want to well! The final in mandatory and you can choose to write a paper (only paper he assigns). Projects are done in groups and in class.
Read only a few books, take the quizzes based on them. A couple in-class presentations (were easy). Exams based on lecture material; go to class, take notes, study for a few minutes each night. Very easy going class. I thoroughly enjoyed the lectures and the books. Some participation is required, review your notes a minute before class starts.
Definitely take religion with him. The best professor for the course. Funny and engaging, easy tests and book quizzes on easy reads every week or so. Would recommend to other first year students and beyond.
He gives test the day before break. I sent him a formal email asking if there was anyway i could take it the day before because i lived far away. He made me cry. Called me up after class told me he didn't read my email but if I wasnt there he failed me and was very rude about the whole situation. The class in general was decent.
Doing well in this class is easy, as long as you actually do the work. Instead of textbooks, he assigns novels, and you are given a week to read half of one. The quizzes on the books are very straight forward as long as you have read. Tests are the same, but only if you actually pay attention to the lectures. Would recommend this class to anyone.
Took this as an online class. There were 5 assigned books and most of the final grade was based off of comprehension quizzes from the books. The quizzes ask abstract questions that were difficult to answer even if you read the book. The quizzes are also timed to prevent looking things up. Not horrible but much more time consuming than other classes
Prof. Bennett is seriously a great professor. He's incredibly funny and makes the topic interesting. If you miss class, you will miss out on important notes. He's pretty impersonal but the class isn't that bad. You're required to read 3 books outside of class, which you must do, but he gives you ample time. His tests are easy if you attend class.
If you're taking 101 all u have to do is show up and read your novel. It's not hard to get an A.
Dr. Bennett is a good Professor overall. You are required to read 3 out of 5 books but they arent too long and quizzes are easy as long as you read. His actual tests can be challenging however with some of the wording used. He can be a pretty funny guy especially with his iPhone 4. I would take him if you can
Bennett is a nice guy and likes to crack jokes so class stays interesting. No textbooks, you read 3 novels. No outside work except reading (you get like 2 weeks to read every 150 pages). Really easy and short reading quizzes after each section and the 3 tests are easy if you take good notes. No midterm and final is optional.
Really nice professor but he is very quite and it can be hard to understand him at times. Goes through notes really quick which makes it hard to get all of the notes. Make sure you write down what he says along with whats on the board. Read your novels and study for the tests and youll do fine!
3 books you had to read through the semester. 3 EASY book tests if you actually read the book. 3 module tests that were easy if you pay attention and take good notes. Optional final to replace lowest test grade, requires a final paper. In class participation is required but if you do your work its not difficult to participate or pass the class.
Dr. Bennett is a good professor. Hes a good lecturer. This class is a ton of work for a 100 level religion course and its really annoying. 3 Tests on class lectures (drop the lowest). 6 reading quizzes (drop the lowest) on 3 books. Paper. Final. News report. Book panel. Attendance is mandatory, it was my difference between an A and A-
Personally I loved having Bennett. Hes a funny guy, and keeps the class interesting. Theres 3 easy reads throughout the semester and book quizzes on Fridays. Also 3 tests throughout the semester, a presentation and book panel. The book panel is an easy 100 if you read the section of the book. He also gets to know students names, which is helpful.
Dr. Bennett is a great professor! I have had him twice now! He is really funny and really knows what he is teaching. There is a good bit of lecture but it's actually interesting. There is no textbook but there are books on the religions you learn that are not bad that you take quizzes on! Overall, a very solid choice for a religion professor!
The toughest part is the books, even if you read them the questions are abstract and pretty tricky, if you miss a day of notes good luck getting them and he talks down to students a bit but its not a bad course. Hes funny and makes lectures entertaining but from a teaching point its nothing astounding thats gonna make you comprehend the course
Amazing professor, he is nice and interactive with the students. Be prepared for speaking in front of the class for 1-2 graded activities (book panel and news report). Overall, presents information in an interesting and straightforward way, low-stress class, definitely ask him questions during class or via email! Quick responder.
Love Dr. Bennett. Only had 3 tests, a few book quizzes, a book panel, and a small presentation. Study and take good notes and you will be fine. His tests are super easy and the final only replaces a test score so it is optional
Dr. Bennett was a great professor. This class was easy and fairly enjoyable. 3 tests and the final is optional to replace a test grade. Book quizzes and discussions but they are easy. Highly recommend him for rel101!
Best religion professor I have had at this university. Lectures are all very well paced and he gets all information across very clearly. Have to read a few books but they are all super easy reads. 8 book quizzes throughout the semester, lowest two dropped. You also get three absences in the class. 2 Exams, both very fair, and final is optional.
Brian is a great teacher and clearly loves what he teaches. The class I'm taking is Hieroglyphics to Hashtags to get a religion credit. This is a really fascinating and fun course that could be great for an elective. (Especially for business/communication/marketing majors). As long as you read the books and listen to the lectures you will succeed.
Dr. Bennett is a good professor. The class is very easy to follow. The notes you take matter. Everything in his lectures will be on the exam. You will have to read three books (one entirely and then the others have specific sections). Do not miss class, if you do, he will not send you notes. You will need help from another student in the class.
Lectures can be very boring at times. Often assumes students have backround in religion. Very lecture heavy and tests reflect it.
Dr. Bennett is a great professor in my opinion. Some people find his no phones policy absurd, but I completely get it. Being forced to take notes on paper has helped my learning a lot. His exams are VERY fair and he does lots of review. The only thing that can be tough are the book quizzes sometimes, but he gives extra credit often.
His class is so easy. Just show up and take the notes (that are literally on powerpoint slides for you) you'll pass the tests. His tests are basically word for word what's on the notes, so it's crucial you actually take them. 3 books to read, you do have to read in order to pass the book quizzes. There's a no phone rule but he gives you breaks.
How do you rate a moon beam? Bro is fire, fire, brilliant fire.
Love this man with all my heart, just read the books and participate in class when he asks questions to get on his good side. Tests were literally so easy just take notes.
This guy is awesome. Really chill and his lectures are super interesting. The quizzes are easy if you read the books and pay attention in class. Also just a nice guy to talk to during office hours with a lot of insight about religion.
Dr. Bennett is a pretty chill guy. Be prepared to read three very easy books in class and take two quizzes per book for a total of six quizzes. The lowest book quiz score is dropped. There are also three tests that are easy as long as you study, with an optional final that can replace the lowest test score. As long as you study you will pass.
