I attempted this course 4 times before taking it with Mr. Bird and failed. Thankfully Mr. Bird was able to instruct in a manner I could clearly understand and comprehend. Excellent instruction and interaction. Mr. Bird is in the top three professors I've ever had, number one for math professors. Great experience.
Calculus is a hard class and anyone not already a math star will struggle in it. However, Mr. Bird not only makes it fun but also explains in ways that make you grasp the concept quickly. Yes its a lot of work but this is high end math people. He expects a lot from you but will return it ten fold. I got an A when I highly expected to end with a C
I thought Mr. Bird was an excellent teacher. He is very clear on what he expects of you from the first class. He is constantly advising students to go the the tutoring lab. He is in class early and will stay after to answer any questions.
Mr. Bird is an excellent instructor. His tests are difficult though, so if you have a hard time with the first two, I recommend going to tutoring. He makes the class fun, and he is very helpful. He used MyMathLab, and if you retained a 66% test average and a 90% HW average on MML, you didn't have to take the final. I highly recommend Mr. Bird.
Mt. Bird is great instructor. He is knowledgeable and fun, and makes math learning fun. If you have questions he will help you and guide you to the solution but never do it for you. I'm looking forward to take calculus with him again.
Mr. Bird can be a pain, very sarcastic but totally helpful. All the homework is online and if you get a 90% average on the homework and a 70% average on your tests you do not have to take a final! Also he let out last test be a take home so everyone got a 100%. He cares a lot about his students best teacher I had in college wish he taught stats!
Mr. Bird was a wonderful teacher. I was hopeless at math, and fully expected to struggle this semester, but the way he explained things totally clicked, for some reason. I'm so glad that my last math class didn't have to leave a bitter taste in my mouth!
The material in this class is not easy! But Mr.Bird is very helpful and makes things clear and easy. Do your homework and then redo the problems over and over to study for the test. GO to class! Surpise quizzes, but more important you miss a lot by not going. There where five test, first one review, next four calculus. Notecard is allowed on test!
Bird keeps you interested and makes the class fun, but he isn't going to make it easy for ya. You want to be present as often as possible, and if you participate you are sure to earn a higher grade in this class. He gives lots of opportunities for extra credit, and will make time to work with you outside of class if needed
Very interested in the topic, it's obvious that Bird loves to be a math teacher. Typical dorky math jokes and some welcomed lighthearted ribbing. The class is structured in a way that is predictable and great for math. Learn the material, do your homework, study for test, take test, rinse, repeat. I'd recommend him to anyone willing to learn.
He takes off tacky points on tests-very scrupling to deal with. Not very helpful since you mostly work on long online homework problems which the computers aren't grading how he wants you to show your work-FOR EVERY PROBLEM. Hard class and very unforgiving prof. Grade curve made class very hard for B-A grades. Take someone else, I'm retaking it now
Brian Bird is a fair professor. Very educated and scrupulous with his craft. He Challenges students to learn and be ready when called upon. His class is hard and his grading can be tough on test. However he gives every opportunity for individuals to achieve their highest score possible. The saying goes: "what you put in you get out." Thanks Brian
Mr. Bird really knows his stuff and puts effort into teaching, but this class is not for slackers. Be prepared to participate and hear his weird jokes. His tests are hard at first but once you get used to his testing style they become easier. He drops clues to what he may be testing on during his lectures so listen closely and take good notes.
I thought Brian knew his subject very well. Make sure to do the homework in MYMATHLAB before coming to next class because if you read what is on MYMATHLAB in helping you with problems in the homework, it will help you understand the concepts before class and when you get to class Brian will help clarify what you learned from MYMATHLAB.
Mr. Bird is an extremely helpful and caring teacher. I truly believe he wants to see all of his students succeed.
Mr. Bird is a very good teacher. Do the homework early, he will help clear up any confusion during the lectures. The information learned in this class will help you with many financial decisions, so pay attention! Mr. Bird wants his students to succeed and helps during office hours and he shows up to tutoring also. Take advantage of his help.
I found his class challenging. However, Brian Bird is an instructor who knows his subject matter very well and can keep the class engaged with a quirky sense of humor related to the course material.
Very eager to help. He likes his subject and it apparent.
I liked Bird, cares about his students A LOT! wants you to do good, homeworks online but easy 100 if u start the week its out, have to make a 90 or more on homework average and a 70 or more on test to not take the final, tests are fair, the review is the test but he adds more stuff on there thats not on the review, study weeks ahead of tests!
Mr. Bird is an excellent professor. He takes his job very seriously and it shows. He cares about his students and makes sure you understand the material. I have also taken him for 092 and I had an extremely difficult time with math, but after taking his class math is my favorite subject. I strongly recommend him.
This guy is just flat out rude. Goes over an example, then calls out students to attempt problems as if we are supposed to instantly grasp the concept. Basically treats you like you are dumb if you are wrong and gets easily frustrated. Our class averaged a 51 on the second test. Tough grader. Save your GPA and don't take this guy. Glad I dropped.
Mr. Bird is one of the best math teachers ive had. I was worried going in if i was going to pass or not, but in the end i passed with a B ( cuz i slacked a bit). He is a very good teacher and he knows his stuff. Although you have to know that this class isnt going to be a piece of cake. If you apply yourself then i think there' no way you'll fail.
Solid professor. They should all be more like Professor Bird.
Really great about following up on questions you have in and out of class.
Mr. Bird was a great teacher. If I had to take trig again he would be my first choice.
Great first semester in college
Show up to class, Do the homework, AskParticipate during lessons and you'll be golden. If you don't like being called on, get over it. He'll make you think before he gives you the answer. He sets you up for success, if you do your part. He may seem rude but he's a good guy over all. He goes above & beyond the duty of a teacher. Pretty cool dude!
Mr. Bird genuinely cares about his students.
Professor Bird was a fantastic teacher. More than happy to answer any question, made himself available before or after class, he was great. If you do the homework and take good notes or good note cards the tests are fine. He gave plenty of opportunities for extra credit, if you fail it is because you didn't try. Would take again.
A teacher with a great sense of humor that keeps a well balance class. Involving all the students in a kind way. There are very little options to gain points so be on point every test. And if he tells a joke, don't afraid to laugh back.
This teacher is probably one of the best I've had in all my three years of college. He shows genuine interest in his students and offers help in and outside of class. Though the class itself if a bit on the hard side, he teaches in a variety of ways that will suit many learning styles. Few assignments; long homework but gives you weeks to complete.
Professor Bird is a great teacher, probably the best I've had in years. He is always willing to help students if they need it, but does challenge you to find the answers to questions on your own. Tests aren't too bad as long as you study, and homework is a little longer but he gives you a lot of time to finish it. Great sense of humor as well!
Professor Bird is a great instructor. I took him for Trigonometry and I got an A. You have to do the work, and study a little outside of the classroom to get an A. There is extra credit, and he is a great guy. Definitely recommend him!
Bird was an awesome teacher! Trig is a terrible subject, but he helps to make it fun and some what understandable. The class itself requires a lot of hard work, but he makes himself available for not just help with the class but in life.
Bird was hands down the best teacher I have had so far since attending GCC He is willing to stay after class or come early to help you along with having tutoring times He explains all information clearly and gives a little extra credit Bird makes it clear he cares about his students outside the classroom and I respect him so much for that
You definitely have to work for your grade. Do the homework and constantly study. It is really hard to get an A but it is possible. He cracks jokes in class but he can come off as being rude. This teacher really knows his stuff though.
He doesn't use Canvas which is a bummer because you always want to know your grade in that class in case you're failing. The class gets tough but Professor Bird does great explaining test problems. If he says this problem will be similar to test question, mark it in your notes and STUDY them.
Excellent teacher! Very difficult class. Very high expectations.
must purchase online code $80
Brian is a great teacher, and makes learning math (calc in my case) fun and easy.
Mr. Bird, Great teacher ! There to help when you need him. Don't take class lightly. Have to work for your grade.
He forces you to participate by going around the room one-by-one but it really helps to make sure you are comfortable with the material. Is very helpful and will help with homework problems in class too.
I had to take this class two times. The first time I took it with him I struggled and said I wouldn't go back, but I figured since I knew his teaching pattern I would give it another go. I'm so glad I did! I did everything I could, and he helped me enormously. I couldn't have gotten the A without him. You won't regret taking this class with him.
Going into this class I was worried because the last math I had taken was 151. This was definitely not an easy class but my favorite part was that if we got a 90% or better on the homework and a C average on the quizzes, he would transfer our homework score (a 90% or better) for the final. He has a great sense of humor, I highly recommend him!
It often felt like he was being impatient with students and was reluctant to help. Not only does he often spot students out in class but shares test scores in addition to problems they did incorrectly in front of everyone. Although he was sometimes funny and very likable his mood would change in an instant. Tests are very hard. Would not take again
There's a lot of homework on my math lab that did work for 1/3 of the class but he didn't bother him. Make sure you are in the right math class before you go in. It is a hard class. He is one of the funniest guys I have met, but he is tough. He likes to wager your grade if you know your stuff. Good luck you'll need it. Attendance is mandatory
Great professor
Mr. Bird is an awesome professor who really cares about the success of his students. To get a good grade in this class, you absolutely have to show up, do the homework, and study. Mr. Bird welcomes students to seek help from him either in his office or at the tutoring lab. If you show the effort, Mr. Bird will go out of his way to help.
His teaching style was not for me. Does a lot of examples on the board but does not exactly explain the steps. It helps to learn the material through MML before going to class.
Awesome, very helpful, very clear instruction. Fair.
This class was, by far, my favorite math class I have ever taken. I want Professor Bird to teach all my math classes.
He explains his lectures very well. He makes the class easy. All the homework is done on mymathlab which gives you unlimited chances to get a good grade. overall a very good teacher. Not boring at all.
He was extremely helpful and an awesome teacher. I would take him again. if you do your work and answer questions in class he will like you.
Good teacher, wants you to do well. Wouldn't say he's very understand of personal life
At least a couple extra credit questions on each test. Also he gives students that do well throughout the semester the opportunity to not take the cumulative final, which is fantastic.
He is funny and the test are easy, however he does bring his attitude to class, and may take it out on students. Very clear but on test after the first page 75% of the time doesn't match homework or lectures
Mr. Bird was awesome. I don't even like math and enjoyed coming to class. As long as you come most of the time and do the homework on my math lab you'll easily score an A or a B. He provides you with extra credit opportunities and let's you use different things to help you on tests. I would definitely take any of his classes again.
Gives good lectures Responds to emails quickly Gives extra credit and supplies extra help for course
Overall he is a really great professor! He answered any questions and went over the material thoroughly. As long as you show up for class and complete the homework/ reviews you'll do fine in the course.
Great teacher. Made math fun and hes very helpful. He applies real life examples to math and had even motivated me with financial planning for my future. He stresses the importance of starting young. Im now considering a change in major to accounting because of this class. He is big on attendance. Don't miss class and if you do communicate!
Professor will answer any questions that you have and will ensure that you understand the information being taught
Great teacher but the work is jammed into two chapters that you really need to study the material and don't fail midterm.
Good lecture . Subject specific. And examples and problems relevant to lecture. Needs more review after a subject before next chapter.
Great teacher very helpful but works too fast, uses MyMathLab and it could get really annoying
This was the first college course I've taken. It is also the first math class I've ever had received a good grade in that I enjoyed showing up to.
great teacher, would like to take a class of his again
Really cool teacher!! Do your work and you pass prepare to take notes lecture every class
He is great at getting our attention and making the class fun and exciting to be in. He goes alittle alittle fast but gives great example.
I really enjoyed class with Professor Bird! He makes class enjoyable and he goes through material several times if needed. He is always ready and eager to help students and answer any questions as a group.
He gives great lectures and normal to hard questions in class, and on the tests he has extra credit questions to help students to do a good job. He is very nice and thorough in questions and answers. If a student has a question he gives examples to help them understand it.
He's funny Professor. The only 2 things you need to do if you want his A are doing your homework and showing up in class.
Teacher always had lots of enthusiasm and was always ready to teach! He interacted with the students very well.
He was cool. He was really clear when teaching the different topics and such. It was pretty clear cut what needed to be done and what was expected.
Awesome class, attendance was not required, but online participation and weekly online quizzes were. Very good lectures and always willing to help and tutor.
I love the examples he gives. I was never afraid to ask for help. If you had a question he was somewhat clear. His sense of humor made class fun. Do not miss this class.
He is a good teacher. He answers questions and concerns really well. The material is very easy and is all online. I would recommend this class
I think you were great!
Did his job great
Very good teacher, makes everything easy to grasp and learn
He gives hard tests, so don't take him if you want an easy A. He will also give random lessons on practical life math skills. Overall he is a good teacher, and he cares about the students.
Mr. Bird is awesome! He explains things really well, and if you actually pay attention to what he's showing you and take good notes, you'll be amazed at how well you will do. I don't recommend missing a class though, his lectures are so helpful, that it's easy to fall behind if you miss a day or two.
Had the best experience in this class after 29 years of no math!! Gets down to learning what needs to be learned in a kind, funny, non-threatening and supportive way!! Thank you for inspiring me to know I can do it!! Highly recommended, would definitely choose this teacher again
kind of rude
Mr. Bird does not use campus canvas. He personally told me he does not trust the college program. Does not make sense. I have used the program for all courses and they worked. I recommend not taking a course with him as an instructor.
I felt Professor Bird was the best math teacher I have ever had. He explains everything with great detail and tells you why math works the way it does. He is not one of those teacher that just says "do it this way cause i said so". I wish I could have had him in high school.
Grading system is really specific, assigns 60-120 problems of homework for a week. Final doesn't have to be taken if you reach a certain % on homework and tests. Pretty of extra credit options
I am a re-entry student and this was the first class that I was ever in that was above my head. It took me 25 hours a week of studying to pass this class. The testing center put me in the wrong class, but couldn't the teacher see that? This was the only class I ever received a "C" in.
Solid teacher. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Tough material becomes clear easily.
He is a hard teacher but in the end it all works out I would recommend him again and again.
Mr Bird is a great teacher who teaches excellent and does his best to help any student whom seeks out his help. Communicate with him and he can help! Lots of opportunities to receive extra credit and its easy stuff. Take him!!!
Lots of notes, lots of homework. Knows the material and teaches it proficiently, is ready to help.
A very fair teacher, gives lost of extra credit opportunities. Will help you if you ask for it.
It was hellllllaaaaaaaaaaa lit!!! This classs was awesome! He's very understanding. Mr. Bird is myyyy gguuuyyyyyy!!!
A very fair professor, easy and friendly to talk to about grades or getting help on work. Offers many opportunities for extra credit, I recommend taking him up on those offers.
Overall good teacher
Moves very fast pace, doesn't explain problems. Just does them
Syllabus looks strict but he is lenient and will bend rules
This was my favorite math professor he was very enthusiastic about teaching and easy to appoach for help
Lectures are very informative, great guy.
if you are deciding wether to take his class or not please do your self a favor and TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!
Mr. Bird is excellent in helping students when they are struggling like I was, he was very kind and respectful in class and I would recommend him if you are taking 120 or higher.
Great teacher. Never a dull moment in the class. He explains the material very clear and doesn't make it seem confusing like some other teachers I've had in the past have.
He's one of the best teachers i have had!
Best math teacher I've ever had
Gives great explanations on problems and is easy to contact.
He was the best math Professor I have ever had. He is not only really passionate and proficient in what he teaches, but he genuienly cares about his students. Lots of homework, but it prepares you for the short and relatively easy tests. Attendance is relatively mandatory, but you could a class or two. Tons of extra credit opportunities!
Great teacher who I'd like to have again!
Great teacher who I'd like to have again! He's a great guy and helps make sure you'll pass!
Amazing teacher! I would take him for all my maths if I could. Really cares for students education.
Such a great teacher. He really hammers home what you need to know and gives a lot of example problems in the notes. The notes for his class are Super important as well as attendance. He offers lots of extra credit opportunities.
i just wasn't a big fan of his teaching. i like to go up and try but he only talked then sent us off for the homework for the week or so. I recomend if you do his class do all the homework! he will use that as your final
Bird does lots of examples during class and has students participate in doing the examples to hammer home the concepts. There's lots of notes. The Homework is online it's fairly easy and if you get a 90% on the homework and a 70% test average you get to skip the final exam. Your Homework average will be the final exam grade.
He's an amazing teacher and is very understanding. he makes sure that everyone understands before moving on.
Hard class, but if you stay on top of it, it isn't too bad.
This class is difficult but Professor Bird makes it super easy if you show up, take notes, and ask questions. He lets you use a 3 by 5 card on every test, and there are tons of opportunities for extra credit. If you maintain a 70% test average and a 90% homework average you get out of taking the final.
Homework is optional If you can get good grades on tests, otherwise it's very helpful and homework grade can replace your final.
Really nice guy, helpful. Good amount of HW, and give EC.
Mr. Bird covers a lot of material and tends to be a fast paced lecturer, but if you speak up and ask him to slow down, he will. He is extremely invested in his students and will help you succeed if you put in the effort!
Great teacher and gave great feedback to all of us and made it an easier class for all of us
Great guy, make sure to pay attention in class though.
I took the college algebra course that met twice a week instead of four times. Because of this, you have to show up, pay attention, and take good notes during class or you'll have a hard time keeping up with the pace. Most of the test is on the notes from class. He's funny and enthusiastic but has high expectations. I would take his class again.
Great Class!
Before the 1st test Mr. Bird wasn't clear enough about what was on the tests. He doesn't like it when you ask questions so, if he answers your question, he will usually give either a vague answer, or make a snide comment. He doesn't make enough practice available for you - you have to find practice online. He has a lot of extra credit & HW.
Bird is a tough grader and actually said in class that he doesn't give 100%. The HW takes 4 hr. each chapter, but the HW doesn't match up well w/ the problems on the test. The tests have VOCAB regarding chapter concepts, & the concepts on the test are concepts mentioned rarely in class. Study 7+ hr. a week or suffer. Drop ASAP & take someone else.
Lots of extra credit probably because he's so excited about math and no one else is on his level.
Mr. Bird was very helpful all semester and gave people plenty of chances for extra credit to help them pass the class. Mr. Bird was never rude and was always organized and on time.
This is the only math teacher I wanna take, this is my 3rd semester taking him:)
Be sure to do your homework because it helps a lot!! Go to class everyday and pay attention or else you will be very confused. Bird is really funny and helpful!
A class where your letter grade reflects your effort in the class. If you dont study, dont do ur hw, and not come to lectures, then a D or F is expected. As long as you put in effort, you can earn a C or better.
Bird is a great math teacher and knows how to explain difficult topics well. Make sure you do your homework and go to class and you'll do fine on the tests. Almost always extra credit questions on the tests and extra credit for his hiking club. Overall great teacher and I would definitely take him again.
Good professor, he is enthusiastic about what he teaches and tries to do as much as he can to help you learn. The class he teaches is hard which makes it less enjoyable, but his lectures are solid.
He is a very good teacher but you need to attend class inorder to pass the test. Tests are based off lecture notes.
He is a very good teacher and would take him again. Tests are based off lecture notes.
Mr. Bird's Mat 212 is challenging. The material is complex and demands attention. The lecture in class covers the material but beware with the math website where the homework is done, it does not match the lectures well enough for the homework to be done easily. Otherwise, Mr. Bird is meticulous when grading tests and is honest about it from get go
take him! hes a great teacher!
Great professor. Very friendly and caring of students. Willing to help if you ask questions and participate in class, second time taking Brian for math and it was a great choice.
Mr. Bird is one of the best math teachers I've had. He does a great job going into depth about questions and will make sure you understand it before moving on. BTW HE LETS YOU USE NOTE CARDS FOR TESTS!!!!!!
Pretty funny, relates content to relevant real world activities
Great teacher
Great professor. Wish I could take him for Calc as well. Reasonable, fair, understanding, wants to ensure you do well and are successful for your next course.
Have knowledge of basic math skills learned in previous classes, because he will build off those without much review. Will call you out (good or bad) so don't take his class if that will make you uncomfortable.
The homework exposes you to difficult problems, but on tests he is more concerned with you understanding the concepts/material.
Awesome professor who cares about his students
Mr Bird is a great teacher that everyone can get along with. Homework isn't mandatory, but if you want to pass a hard class like calc 2, then you NEED to do it. Tests are important, and he doesn't give free points, you have to earn them.
Great teacher overall taking his trig class next semester.
Good at helping people understand the subject matter and keeps class interesting. Overall, my best math teacher so far.
Loved him as a teacher, will absolutely take a class taught by him again in the future
Tries to make the class fun but tends to fly through the material. Tests are crucial and are usually harder than youd expect.
Great teacher. You have to stay on top of homework and studying in order to stay in line with lectures and tests. Great personality.
He is always there to help you if you need it. The examples are always helpful.
Enthusiastic instructor. Teaches for maximum learning. Fair grader. I would recommend to anyone taking any level college math.
Mr. Bird is one of the best professors Ive had. He cares about his students and he has a love for what he does.
Mr. Bird is the best math teacher I have ever had.
Hes a good, get lost some times, but good about answering questions and showing he cares, especially if you put In effort and show you try
Mr. Bird is a no-nonsense type of person. He's managed to find a good balance of strictness and humor which gives him a very relatable personality, while still being concerned about what must be done. Do your work, participate, and have an attitude that's positive towards learning and Mr. Bird and you will get along just fine. Great guy.
He is an awesome teacher he makes the learning environment very easy to work in and also easy to ask questions. He really cares about his students and the success of them. I would take his class again. Stick with it even when it gets hard. Don't give up. He makes you beileve in yourself. He is an amazing teacher
He is a great teacher. They way he teaches is understandable.
Very good professor, i would recommend anyone to take him
Great
Only problem is he just doesnt really answer too many questions but lectures in detail so little to no questions
Great class super funny
He was amazing
It is important to show up to class in order to get a lot of information for the upcoming assignments
Mr Bird was a great professor, I did not pass his class, but know that i am responsible for that. He is a tough grader, but not unreasonable. Great Instructor all the way through.
So glad i took Mr. B this semester, he is an awesome math teacher. He cares about our success and gives you ample extra credit opportunites if you need it. He is very helpful with any questions and is willing to stay after class to help you. Ive always struggled with math but I got a good grade :) so thanks Mr. B!
Very understanding, caring, fun, and has me leave class with a good feeling every day.
Good class overall be prepared to study if the material is confusing and make sure to ask questions
Hes a great instructor however he is very fast paced and the material can be very difficult to understand.
Great and fun teacher. Grades fairly. Wants his students to succeed.
I've taken Professor Bird since my first semester of college (MAT 121, MAT 150, and now MAT 182). He's a great professor as long as you pay attention, participate, and ask for help when you need it. Trig is definitely hard, but if you do well on your tests (70% average) and maintain above 90% on homework (MyMathLab) you'll get out of the final.
Great guy. Hard class but makes it fun
Mr. Bird is one of those teachers that you enjoy having because of the the atmosphere of the classroom. He also is very good at making sure that his students have a good understanding of the course material and provided as much help as needed.
Amazing instructor, kept everyone's attention every class period. He changed my negative views on trigonometry, and honestly was one of the best teachers I've ever had! I would definitely take his class again!
Awesome teacher! Kind of a tough cookie sometimes but he does want you to be successful. He will let you use a 3x5 not card on test and a calculator. Seriously recommend!
Very good teacher that is willing to help you with any problems you may have in this class.
Mr. Bird is great teacher. His course is challenging but he explains it well and gives good feedback. He is very interactive with the students.
Mr Bird was a fantastic teacher, entertaining but serious about taking the course and lectures seriously. Class was a fun and enjoying lecture would take this class again or even a higher level class with him. Should get a pay raise, makes class enjoyable. Test were hard but made since after review, most markings off were user error
Mr. Bird really seems to care about his students. However that does not mean he'll go easy on you. He has high expectations, but also helps you meet those expectations. If you aren't a slacker you won't just pass his class but actually learn a lot on the subject matter that he's teaching. A must take if you have to go to higher math classes.
Mr. Bird is great. Really likable, clear and fair, not particularly hard or easy. Be warned that he has a somewhat abrasive brand of humor, but I enjoyed him while I could tell a few classmates were sensitive to it. He has no qualms calling out people he perceives as slackers and he raves about star students publicly. Will take him for Calculus.
Funny personality that makes lecture enjoyable and is big on participation. Lectures are very detailed but at a moderate pace. Exams are based off of lecture notes/quizzes and not so much on hw. Gives a lot of feedback on test/quizzes. Allows notecard on test.
Bird is a funny guy and care about his students success. When he says extra credit doesn't hurt to do it. The class is base mostly on the tests! Don't give up even when you think your not improving. Don't be afraid to ask questions when you don't understand.
Amazing teacher who truly understands the difficulty Calc 2 possesses and does his best to make it easy to process! With the amount of time he puts into his lectures, out-of-class availability, and connecting with his students as individuals I would have to say he is one of the best math teachers I have had to date. (also, SO MUCH EXTRA CREDIT)
Bird is a great teacher. He really cares about your success. I found his class to be rather challenging and had to drop because he teaches trig more so to prepare students who are going onto Calc. Overall though, I enjoyed him and his class. He makes learning math fun! I would recommend him for students who can handle a fast pace style of teaching.
Good lectures, do homework and pay attention
Bird really understands the material, and translates it his students in a way they can easily understand. He gives tons of extra credit for each test. Homework counts as extra credit, so thats always a plus.
Hell makes the class interesting and fun. I look forward to coming to class everyday
10/10 professor would wait a year to take again
Great at what he does, also super funny.
Mr. Bird is a good instructor if you need help he is willing to help but you have to work hard, take advantage of the extra credit. The class is hard especially if your bad at math but It can be passed. He is a funny guy well respected and a good teacher just tough.
Great teacher. Definitely would take a class with Mr. Bird again.
Fast paced. Dont skip class. Lectures are enjoyable for a math class.
Funny guy, gives clear instructions, fair grader
Professor Bird teaches at a fast pace, making his lectures hard to follow sometimes. However, he is always accessible outside of class and willing to help students that need it. If you struggle, reach out to him and he will help you.
You may think this class will be hard at first but Professor Bird really tries his best to not overwhelm you with tons of work or a ton of information at once. There are 4 test, one of which is online and the rest are in person and based on the notes he gives you in class. He clearly goes over what will be on the test, plus can get out of final.
Mr. Bird is an awesome professor. I would take an unreqired math class just to have him as a professor again. He is patient and really cares about his students.
Its a hard class, luckily me bird seems to make it fare if you put in the work and effort
Amazing teacher. Hes very thorough with his lessons and relatable to the class.
Super good teacher, very in depth. Example he uses in lessons show up on tests and allows note cards!
Explains the material well. A overall good guy and an enjoyable class.
Mr. Bird is a fantastic math teacher. Give lots of extra credit. Great at explaining the material.
Mr Bird is a great teach who geniunely enjoys teaching the subject. He keeps the class engaged and provides plently of examples of the subject matter.
He's honestly amazing, if you take this class seriously he will do whatever he can to help you pass and he is by far one of my favorite teachers I've ever had. I'd you're worried about math then take him because he explains things very clearly and will help students that don't understand. HE'S A REAL BALLER
Overall, a really great professor. Its evident he cares about his students, as well as the subject he is teaching. Lots of extra credit opportunities as well!
Best Math Teacher I Ever Had! Super Helpful & Kind!
Mr. Bird is an amazing professor, although a little fast paced. He knows his stuff and hes great at explaining. He truly cares about his students he just wants you to put in your share of effort. I didn't do so well but its not his fault Im bad at math lol
I have never had a math professor better than Brian Bird. I really urge you to take this professor because he was super cool and my favorite math professor. Don't skip class and pay attention, you will pass. 10/10.
His funny jokes and personality seriously made learning calculus 2 enjoyable. He makes the class social and will not hesitate to put you on the spot at random, but this only helps keep you alert and focused through his class.
cool.
great teach
He is very passionate and you can tell he likes teaching. He knows the information well and is easy to approach with questions.
had a great time in the class, I learned a lot!
He's a great professor does what he can to improve your grade with extra credit
Projects harder than work in class. Doesnt give guidelines to presentations.
If you show up to class you will get an easy A
Good and easy class class is necessary.
Professor Bird is the perfect teacher to have if you're struggling with math. I know myself Kept failing and when I was nervous to take another math Professor Burd was able to use a new way of teaching my basic skill and challenging methods. Professor Bird uses "work-sheet" like tools with scenarios to make the math useful in real life.
I took his hybrid math class, somedays he was slightly bi-polar with things, but overall hes a very nice and helpful guy
He was a great teacher and he graded things fast with good feedback.
Provided a lot of useful information for real world situations.
He is a hard test grader.
Best math teacher ever
Brian Bird is a wonderful teacher. I have always enjoyed math but have never found a teacher who has made math fun and also so straightforward. If you have Mr. Bird as your math professor your in luck.
Mr. Bird is an awesome teacher and makes class fun! I definitely recommend taking MAT150 with him! The only thing I would change about the class would be to post the grades online on Canvas, instead of passing the grade sheet around in class.
great teacher who is very understanding and wants all of his students to pass
A great Professor that is very helpful and makes sure you understand the criteria. Challenges you but makes sure you understand.
This class was a hybrid. There was the right amount of time to complete homework. I like that he has it set up so you can take practice quiz as many times as needed before you take the test.
I like Brian Bird he seems like a good professor, I like his teaching and the way he teaches his student and the way he teaches me personally I really like it.
Projects didn't make much sense to me, but it was his first semester doing them...
Prof. Bird is an outstanding teacher. Being able to teach such a difficult subject like calc 2 is no easy task and yet he finds ways to make it easier to understand and enjoyable. Be sure to do all the homework so you can get as much extra points on a test. Allows notecards on test.
Great prof, homework is extra credit, allows notecard for test.
Better than most of the calc teachers I've had, gets the point across and does plenty of examples.
I really love Mr. Bird. I wish he taught Calc 3 and Differential. He's the most caring teacher I have ever had and I will always look back on Calc 2 fondly. During COVID he went out of his way to review for the final with us, for several days, even when he wasn't getting paid overtime. Tests are just like the notes. DO THE HOMEWORK!!
Professor Brian Bird was helpful and through the COVID stuff went out of his way to make sure we could still learn and interact. He kept us on track and made sure wed be prepared to pass the final.
This is a very hard class but if you put the effort in, Mr. Bird will help you along the way. Gives lots of example problems and chances to receive the grade you want.
Mr. Bird is a fantastic math teacher. It's rare that you get a math teacher that has personality like he does. He really knows his stuff and it shows. Calc II is a very difficult class but he tries his hardest to make it very understandable. I would gladly continue to take Mr. Bird's classes again.
Math does not come easy to me, there are some that have a real deep understanding of this, to this day It is still difficult for me to digest. Mr. Bird provided clear examples, not just dry concept. He's humorous and very much cares for the success of his students in and out of class. Care for your future and grade, and he will care for you.
Mr. Bird was awesome and hilarious, in person and after we had to switch to online due to COVID. He kept us constantly updated with what was going on after the campus closed. His lectures were just as clear online as in person. He gives tons of extra credit opportunities. Calc 2 is hard, so attending class and doing homework was a must!
Easiest Math class Ive ever taken. As long as you put effort in his assignments and dont procrastinate youll be fine.
Good teacher that knows his stuff!
Professor Bird was an awesome teacher and was amazing at adapting to the online environment. He made calc II very easy to learn and was very fun. If you want a teacher who cares about your grade and wants you to do well, take professor Bird!
Calc 2 is a hard course, especially when transitioned to online halfway through the semester. However, Bird did everything to keep us motivated, entertained, and engaged. He knows the material well, lectures are straight forward. Care for your grade, do your homework, and you can pass. Hes dedicated and really cares for his students. Great guy.
Mr. Bird is awesome! He is very kind and fair in his grading. He gives nice feedback on assignments. He likes to see you participating. He gives you extra credit for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and he doesnt make you waste your money on a textbook and expensive calculator. Hes a great teacher!
I had this instructor during the spring 2020 semester of COVID-19. In the middle of the semester we had to switch from in-person to online. It was a difficult transition and most of the class had to drop but Mr.B still continued to teach. I was so thankful for his resilience to power through for our success. He really does care for his students.
he was an amazing math teacher will help you out anytime you need him responds to emails almost immediately!
Used Brian Bird for Spring 2020 as we had to adjust to Zoom for learning due to Covid-19 he was very understanding. We did not hesitate to fall behind in class work and he will explain in great detail if you have any issues in class. He sees a lot of potential in his students and its clear he LOVES his job! He made Zoom feel very easy to adjust to
Mr Bird does a good job at explaining math. I've struggled with math over and over again. I had Mr Bird for math for the fall semester and appreciated the way he taught that I took another math class of his in the spring.
The online class is perfect for people who like to work ahead in their classes, all the units are open from day 1, and the hw and tests are perfectly balanced and fluent so its not overwhelming or confusing, by far the best format Ive had for a math class. Mr Bird is also an awesome teacher who will help you when you need it.
Took this class online so make sure to have a reliable connection because lectures aren't recorded. Professor Bird cares about his students and will make an effort to get to know them and will also urge his students to go to tutoring and receive help. Will challenge you by calling on you to answer questions.
My favorite math professor, I've ever had. Amazing teacher and really worked with the students to make sure everyone was getting the material. He provided many avenues for success and awarded students for their involvement in the course. 10/10.
Professor Bird is a very good and knowledgeable professor. He really knows what he's talking about. Personally, I felt he could've done a better job explaining though... He explained on a very high and technical level but I wish he would've quickly explained it simply afterwards. Because of this, I got a not-so-good grade. But otherwise, amazinggg!
Professor Bird really cares about his students and cares about your success. He encourages going to tutoring because he really wants you to understand the material. He explains the material very well and the exams are fair. He also gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. I would recommend Professor Bird for Calc 2 or any other math class.
He is a very good professor and helps in anyway that was asked. Instructions on how to work out your problems was very specific. Do your homework and attend class helps.
Most of the time is spent writing out proofs. During class, students are often put into groups. Unfortunately, one day the professor became upset that the whole class didn't know the answer to a certain question, ended the class, and then gave the class a few minutes to upload the answer or lose points. I would not recommend his class for MAT230.
This is what a peak math teacher looks like and teaches like. He knows his stuff, he tries to make class fun, he's old so you know he's been doing this for a while, he gives you feedback and has office hours so you ask questions. This guy is a great teacher.
Professor Bird, is an amazing teacher during lecture he goes step by step with each math equation so you dont get lost if you do he will help you. Hes very funny brings humor to the class and makes it more engaging. You dont come across many good professors that really care about their students and hes one of the few good ones Ive had.
Bird is a great math teacher ! He really does help out alot when it comes to math . He goes step by step . He makes the class fun as well during these zoom calls. He also makes sure everyone is on track. But besides that Bird is a awesome professor !
Professor Bird was an absolute pleasure! He goes through the material step by step and takes the time to make sure everything he lectures is making sense. Hes easily accessible outside of class if you have any questions or concerns. He made math fun and added humor to a rather difficult subject. Fantastic teacher, would recommend!
Mr Bird is a great teacher! I took the accelerated "refresher" course (returning student) and although the class is content heavy, I really enjoyed the platform that we used. I felt prepared on the concepts before testing. Mr Bird was encouraging each week after tests and he is respectful of the lecture time. I plan to enroll in his class next sem
He's the most worse teacher at GCC! This class made no sense what-so-ever. He didn't teach any of it right or at a level that his students can understand. Expects you to know stuff from Calc 1 which is totally unfair because the last teacher gave us open-notes tests, but Bird allowed just a small index card. Totally unfair! Don't take him!
Most amazing teacher Ive had. Hes engaging in his lessons and makes a miserable subject a little less miserable. Very helpful and wants to see his student succeed.
I have taken MAT230 before and I felt like I was just not getting it until I finally took his class. He is great at teaching and always welcomes students to ask questions. Highly recommend him.
He is a great professor for math had him for 2 semester so yes I would take his class again, his work is hard but his lectures are very thorough and he helps when needed (make sure you ask for help), attend/participate in class, homework is done. Yea A. Great Math Professor in GCC
Great professor! You will surely understand math because he explains it very well. The projects aren't that hard, but I would say it was challenging, and I enjoyed it! Take notes, participate, put all your effort into his class, and you're good. Highly recommend!
Professor Bird is a great teacher! I liked his teaching style so much I took him for both of my math classes. He's quirky and makes class fun. He explains the math and answers questions well. This was not your typical math class as far as homework and tests go, but if you put in the work and follow the project criteria you're sure to get an A.
Bird is an outstanding teacher with a great personality. 10/10 would take him for any other class I could. Take notes and pay attention and you should pass no problem. I only missed 1 point the entire semester and I have a 9th grade education with one semester of college before his class.
Professor Bird is a great person to be taught from as he can simply explain how the math goes in order. His lectures are great and gets along with anyone. If you struggle in Calculus before, then this is the professor you should take the next time. The homework is pretty simple as it's only if you want extra points on the tests.
Prof. Bird is an outstanding teacher for MAT103. Pay attention, take notes and you should pass with an A. He has a great personality & if I could have taken his MAT142 class I would have. He explains the math problems, answers questions thoroughly and his teaching style makes it easy to learn. Show up to class and you will pass!
I had to withdraw from his class. He's really weird in my opinion. His communication with me was not good; I was struggling with submitting the right file and tried about 7 times until I was fed up. He also can get a bit too personal and I actually talked to the school about this because a comment he said during zoom made me feel uncomfortable.
No homework! No tests! All you will have is 7 projects and a few presentations over zoom. Professor Bird grades pretty hard because the projects are only worth 5 points each. The zoom classes are basically all notes, but his handwriting is not very legible.
He made me very uncomfortable. I will not take any more classes from him.
This "professor" was the absolutely worse ever! He wrote his own course materials which contained lots of errors and typos. The projects instructions were unclear, and he was mean when he graded them. I asked him for help multiple times, but he refused to help instead telling me to go to the tutors on discord. Awful experience!
Very helpful and very good lectures, a different way of teaching where there are no tests but there are projects and I can see exactly how better it is and how this information will not be forgotten. Amazing lectures and amazing explanations.
Mr. Bird has a very unique teaching style that I really enjoy. He isn't as test focused and gives his students plenty of time and opportunity to get help.
Mr. Bird is a good teacher and provides many examples during the lecture. He also encourages students to get tutoring. He also provides several extra credit assignments throughout the semester
Professor Bird was seriously the highlight of my semester. I thought although he was really funny, he is an excellent teacher. He breaks down math to real life issues and has a great way of helping you understand difficult topics. He can tell when you just put a project together quick, versus you trying your best for the class. Highly recommend!!
Great teacher and will help you if need be.
He acts very entitled, disrespectful, and rude! The class is easy but definitely take it with a different teacher. He doesnt allow you to take the final, then will send you an email saying if the final is not taken you will be withdrawn from the class, if you read the syllabus. No where in the syllabus does it say that!
Easy class if you submit work on time. can take quizzes as many times as you want. explains work many times in an easy way. you can also have a one-note paper on the final exam. simple and helpful
Professor Bird was patient and positive with every student. His explanation of the content was very thorough, and he took the time to circle back if anyone was struggling. He was super friendly, comical, and never made anyone feel bad/dumb about their questions. I would absolutely take another course with him.
When I took him spring 2021, Brian was awesome. However, in Fall 2021, his demeanor changed and his behavior was inappropriate. He constantly ridiculed students and would talk over people. He told one student over a homework assignment that that his “work was sh*t” and that “if you turned this into a boss, you would be fired.” Not ok!!
Mr. Bird listens, empathizes, and gives feedback that leads the student to the correct course of action. He is always accessible and prompt with reply messages. He shows the student how what they are learning applies to real life scenarios; for example investments and portfolios. I definitely appreciated that. It's too bad he's retiring.
Unfortunately he is retiring after this semester so other student will not be able to enjoy his teaching.
very nice professor! i hope he enjoys his retirement :)
Professor Bird is an excellent teacher. He takes his time in showing his students step by step in problems you don't understand and/or when he's teaching a new lesson as well.
Amazing professor. He listens to questions and does his best to help everyone understand. He asks what we would like to review on before tests and has a day of review before each test. He is a hard grader, but he always shows why he graded the test the way that he did. Offers tons of extra credit to help those that struggle.
I just finished Calculus 1 with Professor Bird and it was a great class. He has been teaching a long time and it shows. The way he presents the material with his notes on the board is always very clear. He was funny and likes to joke around with people sometimes. Overall, he was a great teacher of math.
One of the best math professors I've had. I almost failed Calc 1 with another professor and ended up almost getting a 100% with Bird in Calc 2. He made the material easy to understand and gave extra credit from the homework. On top of that he's extremely funny and has a good personality. Couldn't ask for a better professor.
Mr. Bird was a math god. He had to be one of the best professors ive ever had, I took him for calc1 and calc2. He's a very straight forward and direct man, some see it has harshness, but its truly is for his students best interest. I don't think Ive ever met another person who enjoyed their job as much as Mr. Brian Bird.
I've had calculus twice in the past, one professor taught through 3 minute youtube videos and slideshows, the other claimed there were no rules to follow in calculus. Professor Bird is a true master in his field, he taught everything from a very basic perspective. I still struggled with some of the concepts, but the class was well worth it.
Mr. Bird is a great professor and always assigns homework that can be used for practical situations outside of the classroom. His lectures are pretty easy to understand and are rich with information that prepares us for the following homework assignments. His course helps build up skills such as presenting and working with Microsoft office.
A good professor and gives good notes to facilitate the matter no matter how difficult it is.
Calc 2 isn't easy by any means. However Professor Bird makes the class enjoyable and exciting. The material is tough but his lectures are enjoyable and he explains the concepts as thoroughly as possible. He is extremely caring and truly wants his students to learn and do well. Thank you Professor Bird!
This was the worst class ever. He made us do projects in a math class. No textbook, just materials he wrote, which were of poor quality. I've never seen so many typos before. He even thought that DC was spelled "District of Colombia" like the country. How ridiculous! I didn't learn anything but I passed. Thanks for nothing.
I used to like math, now I hate it. He made Calculus 2 the worst experience for me. I tried to get help, but he just sent me off to the tutors, but the tutors didn't know how to help with this high-level mathematics. His materials had lots of errors, and he was always making snide comments about how little math we learned in Calculus 1.
He bribed his students to go onto here to leave positive reviews. That's how he got so many over a short period of time. But, these are all lies. Mr. Bird was a terrible professor. He didn't care for his students. He just barked orders at us and then complained that we didn't know what we were doing and how bad the local high schools are.
Professor Bird appears as happy go lucky and treats his students very well until you don't pass one of his tests. He will leave messages like "you waste my time", "you are in the wrong class" if you get below a 70 then get angry when you don't drop. I met with a few students and they had the same messages and just gave in and dropped.
Professor Bird is old school and his expectations and mannerisms showed as such. He has since retired.
I took Mr. Bird during Spring of 2020 for Calc II, and while there were growing pains due to the sudden transition to online only I would absolutely take his class again. He's the kind of instructor that thrives with an in-person course and you can tell he knows his stuff and knows how to teach.
