Really interesting class....really funny guy.....good professor but his class is HARD and he's proud of that
Makes tests impossible to pass. Behavior Modification Project (and a little extra credit) out weigh tests. Presentation easy too. Very Informative and fun.
His theories of personality class is hard but VERY interesting.
Hardest Gen ed class ive ever taken. The class absolutely made me want to become a psychologist. Best professor i ever had.

I took his summer class for Sports Psychology. He made it out to sound really hard and made me wonder why I chose to take it. I made an A on the first test and did bad on the second test but the behavior modification project helped me get an A at the end.
AMAZING TEACHER!No matter how hard his tests seem to be, he is the most amazing teacher I've ever had.Take this class whether you need it or not.You will learn a LOT!He says what needs to be said in lecture, then lets you out.Class is so much fun, interesting, & easy to pay attention. Very hott man!
I highly recommend you take this class with this professor. This was the only class that I actually looked forward to. He made the material interesting and fun to learn. He says what he wants and then lets you leave. Tests are fairly easy if you read and take online quizzes. Lectures let out early.
He is awesome! Every class is fun, even if you're sick! Don't miss class because you might miss a cool lecture like I did, and some extra points!Oh, and he went to Harvard so he knows his stuff! But his tests are hard, he only wants to know you know the stuff! Study for essay questions first!
I absolutely love his class. I look forward to it more than any other. The class always lets out early and his lectures are fun and interesting. Some people find his tests hard but if you study right they are fine. He doesn't take roll but you won't want to miss class. He's awesome!
Dr. Bolter is the MOST interesting professor I have had. He is by far the most entertaining and funniest one here. However, this class did require some effort. The tests cover LOTS of information, but they aren't impossible to pass. Gives 4 100pt. tests and 10 random attendance checks @ 10pts each.
He is very energetic and very eager to help students understand the subject matter.
He's an AWESOME prof. He makes going to class and learning really fun and exciting. He's hard, but really gets you to learn the material. I've been using the things I learned in his class for the last 3 years!! It really sticks with you!!

Lectures are entertaining but have no relevance to the tests. They're supposed to deal with the essays...but you'd have to read to understand the lectures. You're basically left to teach yourself through reading the extremely long chapters. Hillarious lectures though.
I've never known a person who I like and who pisses me off as much as this man. He's a hilarous kinda conceited smart a** The class is HARD VERY HARD If you want an easy A, or an easy C for that matter dont take this guy!!!
his lecture has nothing to do with the main part of the test only essays. he isn't very considerate of his class either.
he is very hard, lectures have nothing to do with tests, as he said "you have to spend 40 hours studying if you want an "A". if you have that much time to spend on a gen ed class then have fun
The tests are hard, you have to find the perfect way to study. He is a great lecturer but he knows it. Not very helpful outside of class, he's a conceited jerk outside of class to be frank. But the lectures are great. One of a kind.
This class requires you to read the ENTIRE textbook. He is a strange combo of interesting/annoying. Lectures are essay questions on the test and he gives unannounced in class assignments. He does come five minutes late and lets you out early and cancels class for study days. Very hard to get an A.
his lectures have nothing to do with what's gonna be on the test. I advise you not to take him. His lectures are intresting, but they don't help you on the test. His test are very hard. You have to learn psychology on your on. he doesn't teach it to you.
Very hard and this is a degree that I changed I hated it he was the reason get ready for sports psych!!
Arrogant, redundant, inconsiderate. Late to class because he can be. Talks about himself, not class material. Personal ethics highly questionable. His degrees are NOT in psych at all, does not belong in this department.
Dr. Bolter is the nicest guy. Sometimes people don't like his teaching style, but that's because he cares about what he teaches and if you just want a blow-off class, he doesn't want to be that guy. But, his class is really interesting and there are no s
knows what he is talking about, but difficult to work with

Dr.B is a wisea$$ but is still pretty cool IMO. The class was an easy A for me 'cause I read the material that the tests covered. He still padded the scores just to be nice. He also gave extra credit ops which I blew off since I was maxing the tests. Want an A? put in some effort. He is fair and reasonable.
very helpful teacher, i wasnt interested in going to class but now i cant get enough of it! he talks about funny past experiences with himself and makes class enjoyable! test are pretty hard but just make sure you know the essays bc thats what helps you out A LOT!!!
Excellent teacher. Clear, percise and helpful. You can do poor on his exams, but if he knows you are trying and you put forth extra effort, he will help you in the end.
you will learn a lot from dr. bolter. he is a great proffesor and makes his class fun. the tests are fairly hard and he will tell you that himself. you must work for an A. he offers lots of bonus. if you go to class he will reward you. he is very funny. onl downside is he may love himself a little too much.
Great teacher makes the class interesting but his test are huge and he has some strict rules. Very intersting class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! the class is so hard...and i don't know what ya'll are talking about bonus? he gives 10 in-class assignments but u don't know when they are so that is his way of getting you to come to class! class itself is fun and u never stay the full amount of time but the test are IMPOSSIBLE!!
Tests consist of MC & 2-3 short answers. The MC is over the book; the short answers are over lectures. Lectures are fun, which makes it easy to attend for his 10 inclass assignments. If you dont want to read the chapters once & come to class, dont take. I was willing to study & made an easy A. By far my fav teacher. Makes me wish this was my major.
WARNING: You will either learn or fail. One of the two. We started off with like 70 and ended up with somewhere around 20 students. You will have to read a butt load, but his lectures are some of the best I've ever had. Pretty Hard.. but not impossible.
This guy is a complete hottie by the way! Great personality, very funny, but I don't think this class is held to the same esteem as his other's (I mean come on, it's SPORTS psyc). You must study, you must be able to learn from the book, and you must work well in a team. He is helpful when you need him! Like I said, very nice guy.
If this guy wasn't something to look at, this class would be a total waste of my time. He's extremely demanding, his tests are impossible, and he doesn't seem to care about anyone but himself. If you can avoid him, do so!!
Loved this class. Got the highest grade on every test. Just read the book and memorize all the definitions. Then look at your notes and memorize lists. Pretty easy once you know how to study. Lectures are great. Best Gen Ed class. Wish I could take it again.
I loved this class! very interesting teacher, he doesn't teach from the book, however tests do include things from the book, just read the black words. he teaches you things you will use or need to know in life. I'm not particularly interested in psychology but i actually enjoyed the class, never stayed the entire class period. Take this class!
I absolutely LOVE his class!! His lectures are so interesting and funny! Easy to remember (good, because part of the test is over lectures). I love his class so much! He curves the grades, too, so you usually have bonus points. The tests are kindof hard but if you study the book then you will do fine! I reccomend his class to everyone!
READ THE BOOK WELL! GO TO CLASS ALWAYS!!and you will do fine he gives pop inclass assignments so do not miss class, but that won't be a problem because his lectures are entertaining and he is HOTT! do not fool around he will kick you out for the day if you get on his nerves.
He is a GREAT teacher! You must take him! I don't really even like psychology, but he makes the class so much fun! He was one of my first teachers at UCA, and I will never forget him!! If you go to class and read the textbook, you will do good on the tests!! :)
He is ridiculous! Gives fun, humorous lectures, but the studying required to get an A on the tests is INTENSE. I would only recommend him to those who are serious about their schoolwork. He only gives A's to those who really earn it.
He's a good teacher, but you have to read the textbook or you'll fail the tests. Take notes or fail the essay portions. This class is not something to take lightly. I would definitely recommend him, but with a warning.
Dr. Bolter is conceited. I have learned alot from forced reading. If you are out for an easy gen ed look elswhere. I have worked my butt off! Yes, he is funny and cute for an older guy, but ask yourself, do you have time for funny and cute? Forty hours between tests?
Dr. Bolter is very interesting as a person however lacks structure in his teaching methods. This class is "grade C" hard work!
Everyone says Dr. Bolter is hard, but he just expects you to do your work. He makes his class sound difficult on the first day just to weed out the weak and lazy. Dr. Bolter makes his lectures humorous and interesting. Never a dull moment. Bottom line..read what he tells you..learn it..go to class and you will get an A or B
Bolter's the best teacher I've ever had. He's HOT, smart, and excited about the topics he teaches. You will work your ass off if you want an A. He's a very good person to get to know and is very easy to talk to outside class (if you're there during office hours).
He tells you the first day of class that it's hard and you have to study. He's right. You learn a lot, and he's a great lecturer. ALL tests come from the book, which he doesn't talk about. You'll learn a lot, and I really enjoyed his class. Be prepared to work your hardest for that grade.
He told us the test were hard and we'd need to study. This is true. Test were 40-50 multiple choice taken from the book(which he never discusses) and 1 or 2 essays from the notes. The essays are easy and if you study what he says, you'll probably be ok. He makes the class interesting and his lectures are relaxed. One of my favorite teachers so far.
Dr Bolter is a very interesting man and a great professor. I always looked forward to his class. He's quite humourous, but you must come to class and you must study. He really challenges you but its worth it.
He is an amazing teacher. He keeps your attention the whole class. He's funny! His tests are a little difficult - covering a lot of material - but his lectures and his extra credit points make it all worth it. I love psychology more after this class.
Dr. Bolter tells you that you have to work hard to get an A, and he's right. You do. It's far beyond worth it, though. He can keep anyone's attention, and he makes you want to learn. Reading the chapters on your own is necessary if you want to pass. It's well worth the time and effort, if you really want to learn though.
Read the chapters once=C twice=B three times=A. Always come to class. He is a diabolical fibber and a smartasp but I happen to like that in a professor. BTW he is easy on the eyes. His tests are killers but read like a maniac. Prob my fav class and professor so far.
An amazing teacher. Lectures are really interesting and funny. Tests are hard so make sure you read the chapters a few times through. I would take him again in a heartbeat.
Def. one of my fav teachers at UCA. He is so funny & makes lecture very interesting. He doesn't take attendance but does give simple in class assignments that can help your great out tremendously. so come to class. he tests mostly over the book so read it! also most of the time he would talk for 30 mins & let us leave. I would def. recommend him!
Dr. Bolter is a great professor. Although yes he is a very challenging teacher he works with you as much as you can so that you are able to pass his class. I strive to be on time to his class and enjoying every second of being there. Not to mention the fact that he is also a cutie.
Dr. Bolter is by far my favorite teacher so far. He is hilarious and always makes the lectures interesting! The tests are very very hard but if you come to class and read the chapters you should do well. I would definitely recommend him to anyone!
Dr. Bolter - a great professor; his class was challenging & interesting. However 4 things should deflate the ego:1) Not 1 degree held is in Psych, 2) he stated that Darwinian evolution (which I'm not opposed to) is fact, but it is not, and 3) he boasted of "post-doc" work at Harvard (which was a short management seminar for college administrators)
intelligent--interesting--clearly thinks about how to get concepts across--makes me laugh and want to come to class--i don't care what some random person said this professor did or didn't do--I've never had a teacher who made me think so deeply about not only a subject but about myself
Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you don't go, you will fail. Strict but fair. Big final project, but no tests, just quizzes about once a week over one chapter in the reading. Work very hard and it won't be a big deal, don't apply yourself and it will be difficult.
Mr. Brian Bolter is an awesome teacher! His class is NEVER boring. He always gives real life examples and tells little stories about his childhood which are hilarious. Psychology is a class that you have to study for regardless of your teacher, so it's nice to have one that makes you want to go to class! HIGHLY recommended!
An eloquent speaker with an ability to portray his teachings with crystal clear understanding to the student.
Everyone seems to love Bolter, but I didn't. The subject matter was communicated VERY clearly and its very interesting. Good class. I didn't like him because he picked on people in class for laughs and was arrogant. He always talked about himself and things he had going for him. Overall though, Positive Psych. should be an A for you.
Most ppl drop this class in first few weeks b/c he tells you that you have to give a 40 min. presentation to a non profit. So be prepared. It wasn't hard at all. This class was the best, most rewarding class i've ever taken and wish i could take it every semester. Just do the work and its an easy A. Its not ur typical class!
This class is INCREDIBLY difficult. Bolter's lectures are interesting and funny, but this man thinks WAAAY too highly of himself. He once devoted an entire lecture to telling us about how much money he now makes and how much his car cost him. No one cares! He prides himself in the fact that his class is super hard to pass. He's a total jerk.
How in the HELL does this man have such a good review? Had him for Health Psyc-dropped after a month when it was obvious it was impossible to get a good grade. VERY high opinion of himself. Spent lecture telling stories then for test, almost all from the book. Then he got angry at the class for failing his tests. I could go on and on.
He will try to weed out the students who may not be willing to apply themselves. He's arrogant and condescending but is very intelligent. I hardly show up bc his lectures are quite useless if he lectures at all. You want to pass make sure you read the chapters and practically memorize them bc they are your test. You don't need his lectures to pass
This is my second class with Dr. Bolter. Positive Psych=easy A if you do the work, however, Theories of personality=A if you study your @$$ off. Great teacher, definitely one of my favorites. People like to bash him because you really have to earn your grade. This is college, grow up, and do the work. I would recommend him to those who work hard.
Dr. Bolter's class is very difficult. Lectures are minimally helpful. I suggest to read the book inside and out and don't be scared off when he pushes the difficulty of the course at the beginning of the semester. This is one of the most rewarding courses I've taken in college.
Dr. Bolter was my favorite class this semester. He is very entertaining and kind of reminds me of Jay Leno. Study any lists he gives and read your text.
Why work to learn what begs to be forgotten? I was so disappointed, because this class has potential to be wonderful and challenging. He didn't lecture, spent the time bragging about himself and putting down/manipulating/threatening students. He discourages any outside research and learning. Memorize book word perfect and show up for tests.
His class was very hard and very fair
Dr. Bolter is a great teacher. Loads of fun. However, his tests are very difficult. You absolutely must read the textbook thoroughly in order to pass the tests. He's worth it though if you're willing to work hard.
Bolter is my favorite teacher. Loved his class. Take good notes, read the textbook and you will do good! He is hilarious and I leanred a lot in his class! I've never written on this thing before, but because I loved his class so much i am. So, take him!!!!! You'll love it!
Theory of personality Knows his stuff. Keeps your interest. Makes you want to take his class no matter what the grade. Challenges you to learn, and makes you want to do well.
Took for Health Psych. Actually enjoyed attending class even though it wasn't mandatory. Lots of laughs. Exams VERY difficult. But if you're willing to work for your grade, he's more than happy to help you! Lectures pretty pointless, just READ READ READ till you can't read anymore! I received a B.
Hardest class I've ever taken. Tests are over lecture and textbook. Textbook isn't covered in class at all, meaning you have to read the entire textbook for the class.
Dr. Bolter is a great professor. His tests are very difficult but his lectures are hilarious and useful. His tests are 50 multiple choice questions from the book and 2 short answer from the lectures. He doesn't go over any book stuff in class so you have to read the book cover to cover.
Dr. Bolter is the absolute best teacher I have ever had. He gives lots of bonus points and tries his hardest to help you get a good grade in the class. He's ridiculously fun and I love going to his class! I can't wait til the final!
Dr. Bolter is very entertaining! He gives a LOT of bonus points. His exams are difficult, so the book an d tutoring sessions are a MUST!
I really like Dr. Bolter. Yes, his tests are really hard but do you really come to college for easy classes? He expects you to work hard and if you do, you should be fine. He offers lots of extra credit. READ YOUR BOOK AND DO YOUR WORKOUTS!
While the course load is heavy and the tests are difficult, if you follow his instructions you can make an A. He's hilarious, if a bit conceited, and he makes each subject interesting. A great class if you're willing to put in some reading. You can definitely learn a lot from him.
For those who have posted that the class was extremely hard and they dropped after a month, if you had stayed, you would have discovered that everything he tells you in the beginning is just to motivate you to try hard. His actually turns out to be easy and you can get the exact grade you want by following his directions.
My favorite class this semester! The only one I looked forward to. He always make lectures interesting, and the class is NOT hard as long as you actually read before the tests. Although he kind of seems like an ass, he's usually very nice if you approach him, especially if he knows you've been trying.
If you want to get screwed over, take Bolter. I did EXACTLY as he asked me to, and I still ended up with a B in the class. This was all despite putting in A+ effort. Some students were exempt from the final, while I wasn't for some reason he would never disclose. Do not take this egotistical fool.
Initially he is a bit bleak to say the least. The first day he tells you how hard the class is BUT he also tells you that it isnt how smart you are but how much work you put into it. He is MORE than fair in regards to the exams and other assignments. The hardest professor i have ever had but the one that i looked forward to. PLUS the man is HOT!
Read before class!! Very helpful professor. Very detailed projects due.
I love Bolter! He is awesome. His tests are not that hard if you study. Most of the questions come from his online quizzes and readings. He starts off sounding super hard then after the first test he gives a study guide. I love him. He is also my academic adviser he really does want to help and watch you succeed. Go to class. All points add up!
I don't know how anybody got trough his class.
This is a challenging class. There are 5 exams and a final. You can drop one test so if you make all A's on the exams then you can drop the final. Go to the SI groups! Dr. Bolter does not teach anything from the book. His lectures consist of psychology subjects that will be on the 2 part open response. Would take again, I learned A LOT!
Great class, yet very difficult.
Dr. Bolter was my favorite professor I have ever had. His class is very difficult. But he is hilarious and I enjoyed coming to his class every day! He makes learning fun with real life experiences and witty teaching!
I have taken many classes with Dr. Bolter. If I could take all of my Psychology classes with him, I would in a heartbeat! He's very big on motivation, it's great! Go to class, simply do what he asks, and you'll pass with flying colors! TAKE HIM!!!
This is an applied class, so take it if you have time to do outside work because that is how you pass the class. Best class I have ever taken in college, really makes you work for your grade but the ending result is well worth it.
His class is hilarious, you'll never be bored because he keeps you engaged throughout the lecture. His class is challenging but it gets better if you follow the instructions and come to class. Notes are a huge necessity because they will come up on your test as short answer questions. He is always handing out bonus points, which is also a plus! A++
Take this class if at all possible. You will have to read the textbook and take notes in order to pass the class, but it is worth it. Highly inspirational and hilarious. Tests are two part: short answer over the lecture and 50 multiple choice over the textbook. He does not lecture over the book, so if you miss the lecture you are screwed.
The tests are covered 80% from the textbook (3 chapters per test) 20% from lecture notes. study 21 hours for the entire test consistently you will get an A or a high B. He gives extra points. class is very fun. We listen to a song at the beginnin of class- you guess the artist and write the name and get extra points (that's how attendance is taken)
Dr. Bolter's class is by far one of the most rewarding classes I have had at UCA. In this class you must work for your grade, if you don't put in the work you won't get the grade you want. You have to have 3 goals: physical, relational, and one of your choice. The only thing that I didn't like is the 45 minute presentation you have 2 do.
ahhhhhmazing teacher. hard tests but tons of bonus points. cool class and i would so take it again!
Dr. Bolter's a good teacher. You will have to read a lot , but you will definitely learn things from him. "Motivation is more important than ability in achievement."
Difficult tests, but he is willing to work with you if you go in during office hours. He tells you exactly what he expects the first day. Hard class, but amazing lectures, and he's very fair.
By far my favorite class of the semester. He is a lot of talk; at the beginning of the semester, I was really worried about how tough he made the class sound, but he gives bonus points for everything and lets you take off a test at the end. I highly recommend incoming freshmen to take his general psych class, he makes the class relevant to you.
Amazing instructor. Do not be afraid when he says you need to study 7 hours a week to pass with an A, I maybe studied 4 a week and ended with an A. But you do need to study to do well on tests and show up for class bc he's really good about giving extra cred for exams but you don't get it if you aren't there. Definitely take him! +He's HOT.
Easily the best and funniest professor at UCA. You will not regret taking him. You need to go to the lectures because he gives out random bonus points and every open response is from the lectures. He is also extremely hot so I didn't mind going to class everyday.
Dr. Bolter is a fantastic professor! His lectures are relatable and easy to follow and he gives bonus points for every class you attend so GO TO CLASS! It does take a lot of studying to pass the tests though. The final only goes towards your grade if it will raise it! GREAT CLASS!
He has a teaching style like no other. You will want to come to his class. Just an all around GREAT professor.
He is a very lad backteacher that curses a lot. A few assignments throughout the semester but nothing very hard. Really they are easy As. He lectures what will be on the short answer never about what will be on the test which are always multiple choice. He gives a lot of bonus points so if you go to the SI session N study a few hours you'll pass
I love, love, love Dr. Bolter! He's an amazing professor. He is very passionate about what he does and he pushes you to be the very best you can be to better prepare you for life after college. He likes to joke and make class entertaining, as well as competitive. His test are pretty tough, but if you do what you're suppose to do, you'll be fine.
Bolter is a great teacher and an excellent lecturer. There is never a boring moment in his class. It's tough to get a good grade in there, as 75% of what are on his tests come from the textbook, which you have to read on your own time. He doesn't waste class time telling us what we can read for ourselves. I absolutely loved his class.
Dr. Bolter is an easy professor. He tries to scare you at the beginning of the semester, but in reality his class has very little actual work. Just ask him questions and befriend him, just go to the HPER or whatever like the project demands, and study if there's exams. It's not a big deal, he'll give you a million opportunities to get extra credit.
Will definitely take again. Learned material and life application. Hard tests, read textbook. Meet your goal(s) and you will do well.
Took him for Health Psych. His lectures did not coincide with the book at all, but we were only tested over the book, so READ in order to pass. He'll put a heavy curve on it, otherwise easy A.
Hes an awesome teacher, just makes you read a lot on your own. all the tests consist of the book material and very little of lecture. overall great professor and is hilarious. definitely recommend.
If you do not enjoy reading, this class may not be for you. However, if you do read the material, his general psychology class is easy. He gives lots of extra credit and has hilarious lectures. My class had 144 students. Nobody walked out without a smile.
if you don't like to read then don't take the course , the tests are hard but he always makes up for it ,with extra credit . He's a really nice professor , he can seem scary but he's really nice . GO TO CLASS !!! and never be late !!
You have to read for his class to pass the exams which he curves a lot so as long as you get the jiff of each ch, you should do fine. Keep up with your goals and try to meet them as much as you can. He'll work with you and you'll do fine unless you put in 0 effort. The chapters can be pretty long so be prepared to multi-task.
lectures are always interesting. he knows how to keep your attention and he keeps you entertained. tests are easy if you study the book and show up for lectures. i actually didn't dread getting out of bed the morning for his class.
You have to attend the class and you have to read! He is overall a wonderful professor and really knows his stuff, he is also super funny and keeps the lectures interesting. Be aware if you don't like cussing then don't sign up for his class! The tests are SUPER hard but he gives several bonus points opportunities, so take them!
I had Dr. Bolter for Gen Psych. He is an amazing lecturer, and I thoroughly enjoyed going to his class. Attendance is mandatory, for points and notes. The lectures are 25 points of the test, and reading from the book is 75. He is very good about giving bonus opportunities for every test, so do that! Hard class though. Be ready.
This class will help you with future classes. Bolter wants you to learn how to study for tests. If you do not like reading a lot, then I would not recommend this course. The quizzes he gives are generally not for a grade. Go to class every day! Study, study, study for his tests. Any bonus he offers take it! His lectures are always interesting.
Dr. Bolter is such a fun professor to have, but he is also very smart and cares about his students' success. I had to read the whole book and take good notes in and out of class to earn an A. His lectures are entertaining, and don't normally follow the text, but what he says will be on the test. The book will also be on the test. Highly recommend.
Dr. Bolter is hands down the best professor I have ever had. He was my favorite part about my week. You absolutely have to read the book and take notes during lecture. His exams are 75% from the book and 25% lecture. I loved his class.
Prof Bolter is interesting to listen to, and he doesn't keep you there unnecessarily. He grades only on tests, which are extremely tough. Expect to study 10+ hours for each one if you want an A or B, but as the course goes he tends to get easier. If you have any questions about your grade GO TALK TO HIM. He'll tell you exactly what to do.
Dr. Bolter was a good professor, but very full of himself. A lot of people enjoy him, and I agree he is funny and I enjoyed his class, but nothing that he lectured on was on the test. You have to be sure to read in order to pass the class.
The first couple of weeks Bolter is tough so he can filter out the "weak students" that don't really want to work. You must study 18 hours for his tests, but he usually gives 10-12 bonus points per test if you show up! Lectures are mandatory (but really fun!!) because what he lectures over will be the open responses on the tests.
Have to read the book. He doesn't teach over the book, you have to read the material yourself. If you walk in late (if he is in there) he will tell you to leave;just like if your phone goes off or anything (anything) he will tell you to leave. Hes supper funny, great guy, never have a dull moment. Motivation is the key, give bonus points!
Dr. Bolter is amazing, I looked forward to his class every week. His lectures are entertaining but he is teaching at the same time. You do have to read a lot like everyone says, but it does get easier towards the end. He gives extra points all the time and you can always get some if you attend class. NEVER SKIP and NEVER ARRIVE LATE.
Bolter was great. Have to go to lecture in order to take quizzes and learn the OR material. MUST read the book in order to even think about passing. He has a very colorful vocabulary so if you're uncomfortable with that then he is not for you! 5 test and a final, other than that there aren't really anymore grades so do well on the test!
The way he teaches Health Psychology is unique. Instead of only focusing on learning the material in the textbook, we also had to get in groups for a semester-long workout where we had to make a binder showing our workout progress. This class is easy but time-consuming. It will force you to go work out, but you won't really learn the material.
Easily the hardest class I have ever taken. Reading the book, studying all of your notes, even studying your friends notes, going to class and participating are all absolutely necessary. However. Getting a B was the most rewarding grade I've ever received and it was probably the most I have ever laughed in class. Bolter is hilarious and amazing.
This class is insane. There is so much outside work that it is hard to keep up with. Tests are over three chapters every time and are very hard. You have to go to the gym with a partner 4 Times a week. Have three goals, keeping a journal the entire semester. Then you work with a non-profit. Class is unrealistic!
Dr. Bolter is one of the toughest professors I have this semester but he is AMAZING. His class is hard but it's so much fun. He's super funny and makes you feel comfortable. You definitely have to work for your grade in that class.
Amazing professor. Class in my opinion was easy if you just spread out the reading material. Will get increasingly more easy, gives good exam score curves. Hilarious dude, best teacher I have had and probably will have.
I loved having Dr. Bolter! Hes so helpful when you go to his office hours. His lectures are super fun, & he doesnt keep you longer than he has to. YOU HAVE to put in the work. Take notes in lecture, read & take notes, & study the vocabulary/psychologists/methods. MAKE FLASHCARDS. Youll learn a lot in this class, & youll feel so great about it.
If you read your book a couple times before the test you will do good. There are daily quizzes over the chapters that you are on and they are mainly vocab, making a quizlet for vocab helped me. The 10 questions at the end of each chapter are usually on the test so review those. Also he gives out a lot of extra points when you answer his questions
Overall great professor. Helped me greatly whenever I went and talked to him. Would 10/10 reccomend!
He is the best professor in UCA! I am taking his class right now. He has a unique way of sharing his knowledge. His class is usually fun because he comes up with new ideas everyday! He gives bonus points for each extra things we do in class. It helps a lot to have a good grade! I just love him!
I'm so glad I took Bolter for general psychology. He can be hard in the sense that he makes you read, study, & work for your grade, but he gives you TONS of opportunities to bring your grade up & he's super helpful if you go to his office hours. His lectures are really inspiring & he's really funny. He makes you enjoy and look forward to class.
Dr. Bolter is the most amazing professor I ever had. You can get a lot of fun from his lectures. And his has lots of bonus points. Just read the textbook and take notes from his lectures. Go to the IS Take him!!
Dr, Bolter was by far one of the best professors I have had thus far in my college career. He encourages you, and wants you to succeed. People will tell you that his class is hard, and it is. Its the hardest Gen Psych class by far, and the tests are hard. You will have to read every page of the book to do well. However, this class was all worth it.
He is a very good professor. His lectures are very funny. He does not like people slacking off. You gotta study if you want to past his test though!
Dr. Bolter's class was one of the funnest classes I've taken. He is hilarious and his lectures are interesting. His tests are hard but he grades on a HUGE curve. His class is about motivation not memorizing passages from books. I've taken him for 2 classes, and if he taught more I would take him again
This class is incredibly difficult... IF you don't put in any effort! Go to class, read the book, and you will make an A. He wants you to succeed. I have to say that out of all the classes I've taken at UCA, I've learned and accomplished the most by taking him for Positive psychology. He's a hilarious and motivational professor to say the least.
This class was literally the best. Dr. Bolter is a character and he made the lectures hilarious. 100% would take him again. You have to read the book for the tests but it's not hard. Your grade isn't 100% based off of test scores. He bases it off workouts and if you were a slacker in the gym. LOVE HIM!
You better be ready to work. He's a very funny professor and he makes class very enjoyable and you don't stay in there very long but you better be ready to study for his tests because they are super hard. Tests come straight from book. Make sure you do make progress on your workouts or he will doc you a letter grade because you didn't.
I absolutely loved this class. He is such an awesome lecturer and keeps you engaged at all times. The only downside is that what he lectures on isn't what you read. BE READY TO READ!!!! I cannot stress this enough. This class was hard, but would recommend to anyone who is willing to put in the work.
there are only test grades. no homework. lectures. doesn't give notes or study guides.
The lectures were very interesting and entertaining. But the tests were 10/10 difficult. He expects his students to study 18 hours a week. The tests arent just memorizing, you have to really know the material. I had to drop the class to save my gpa. But I dont need it for my major.
THE TEST ARE THE MAIN SOURCE OF YOUR GRADE. You will not pass if you do not show up or do not read your book. Bolter has a great sense of humor, and makes it his goal to not be boring. He is super caring and understanding, but not if you do not apply yourself. If you work hard you can get an A and this professor is worth taking.
I was not sure about Dr. Bolter the first 2-3 weeks of class. He has very odd humor that took a while to get used to. His class is hard and you have to work for your grade but I have learned so much. The only thing i don't like is theres no homework so the only grades are tests so you need to do good on the tests to keep a good grade.
lectures are fun but you are warned. lectures are 25% of your grade and 75% of your grade is reading the book front to back by yourself. not a fun class and he is not helpful in his office hours. good luck if you take him :/
If you are taking his positive psychology class make sure you chart every workout you do with your partner, otherwise he doesn't care for any other proof you have and does not look at the pictures you take every week. Also, if you are a person that can't stand conceited people don't take his class he is very arrogant but, at least he cares.
Bolter lectures over the Short Answer of your tests (25%) and you read the chapters for the 75% multiple choice section of the tests. Very.. funny lectures. Bolter does not talk about this 75% MC at all, you are expected to learn/read it yourself. I would of enjoyed the class if I was not taught 25% of the material. Test grades only! Read.
Attendance is never taken, but lecture is when you get the answers to the two short answer questions for every test. The tests are 25% short answer and 75% multiple choice questions from the book that you must read and learn yourself. He expects you to spend 18+ hours preparing for each test and SI sessions are mandatory. No homework, all tests.
Dr. Bolter expects you to try your best in his class. You have to go to the gym and eat healthy. At the end of the semester, you have to show him your binder filled of pictures, workout logs, food journals, etc. I lost 15lbs thanks to this class. His tests come from the book and are very hard. He's a bit arrogant, but funny. You cannot slack off!
Fun class and professor, but if you want to make an A, you have to be ready to make this class your life for the semester!
Love this professor, he's hilarious, but he DOES NOT sugar coat anything. You will have quizzes every class, miss more than 2 days you're dropped a letter grade. His lectures are amazing, but only 2 questions on his exams are from lectures. You have to basically memorize your entire textbook, and teach yourself the entire course.
Dr. Bolter is an amazing professor. I was nervous going into this class because he was intimidating at first, but he genuinely wants his students to succeed. While you do have to study a lot, he makes it clear exactly what you have to do to make an A. I would definitely recommend taking this class if you are willing to work!
5 tests. Each test was 75 MC, 2 OR. Read the book and go to the SI sessions!! I made quizlets over them to help study (sjacub23), they really helped me alot. Dr. Bolter is nice guy and his lectures were insightful, but take this class if you are willing to work for the A. Also, I 100% recommend a study partner. I could not have made an A w/o one.
Professor Bolter gives off a scary and strict first impression, but he was a really amazing teacher. He was really funny, always let us out early, and showed he really wanted us to succeed. In order to pass the class you really have to put in the work, and if he sees that hell help you out and boost your grade a lot. Overall super great teacher
He told us we had to study 18 hours to make an A in his class. We basically had to teach ourselves. He joked/cursed a lot instead of teaching. He was very rude to his students. We were required to go to SI once a week until we made and A on an exam. Our only grades were from daily quizzes & our exams so if you dont do good on those you wont pass.
This class was really hard. The exams were 70 multiple choice and about two short answer questions every time. He said we had to study 18 hours leading up to the exams to make an A.
Dr. Bolter is very to the point with his lectures and what matters most are the tests. Make sure you take notes in the lecture because that is where the open response comes from, and read the textbook because that is all of the multiple choice. Make sure and volunteer when he gives the option because he hands out bonus points like candy.
You HAVE to be at every class, no exceptions. I like a tough teacher, but I made the mistake of having Bolter and astrophysics in the same semester. He's not joking when he says study 18 hours. If you don't like intensity (and a little humiliation when he has everyone stand up when their test grades are called), do NOT take his class.
If you have to take Psychology do NOT take Dr. Bolter. He is the worst professor I have ever had. I understand he wants the course to be rigorous, but this was extreme. Students are expected to learn the material completely on their own and Dr. Bolter is a MAJOR jerk if you try to e-mail him about questions and is very unprofessional.
He was always rude to other students and loved calling people out. You couldn't come in late or he wouldn't let you in. Lectures were over whatever he felt like, never over what we are learning. The textbook is online. There were a quiz and homework every week. You have to teach yourself, if you cant DO NOT TAKE HIM.
I had him for health psychology. I had heard horror stories about him but needed his class to graduate. We had a huge semester long project that I stuck to, recorded EVERYTHING and made it perfect. I had missed an entire exam but he liked my project so much I got an A for the class. Just do your work and he's fine tbh.
His lectures
He is a great teacher. His lectures are so funny and make you more engaged. They test are not easy but if you read and understand concepts you will pass.
His syllabus says if you are late to class you won't be allowed in. He makes us have grading conferences at the end of the semester to talk about what grade you think you deserve. He does not respond to emails and if you like taking notes on an iPad he doesn't allow technology. He says only take notes with pencil and paper. He sucks.
His tests are difficult but if you read the chapters it's over, you will be okay. Make sure to do everything he asks of you for the semester-long project and make sure all components are included. He is so funny and his lectures are super interesting!
BOLTER! One of the best professors at UCA! His classes are HARD but he genuinely cares about his students. You have to read the book but its an interesting book! Positive and Health Psych are essentially the same class and both are equally hard work, but I made As in both classes by participating and reading the book! GREAT GUY
Dr. Bolter can be though personality wise since he is not afraid of announcing your grades or calling you out, however, his lectures can be quite funny and entertaining. He follows a very strict schedule of lecture, assignment, test every week but if you take notes during the lecture and read the chapter you should be fine. No technology is allowed
Dr. Bolter is terrifying until the mandatory meeting you will have at the end of the semester. He will basically scare you into completing his project. This class is basically making his students work out and be healthier. If you just keep a journal, count calories, take picture results, and workout you will make an A.
Dr. Bolter was a great professor. He really knew the content and he knew how to make the class interesting. He had a very strict schedule for each week but we didn't have to go to class on Wednesdays and only had to come in to take a quiz on Friday's. I definitely recommend taking him for Gen Psych. He introduced me to my love of psychology.
Bolter IS the man, the myth & the legend!!!!!
