Great teacher, just keep up with the reading and participate in class.

Very strict. He will call you out for sleeping in class and continue to make sure you are wake for the rest of class. Calls you out on texting too. Very strange man, he makes the material easy to understand.
good teacher. pretty easy class, just make sure to listen and take notes and you good.. alot of reading but i never did it and was fine. not too much work.. just a couple different essays
A true learning experience. Brazeal is as clear a teacher can be on the subject. A good amount of note taking is required to do well on the tests, but the final was a breeze for almost everyone in the class.
This class was my favorite class this year!! Very interesting!! Take it! He is a pretty nice teacher and takes attendance. A lot of books but I haven't read most of the readings and I have an A. He goes over all the readings and the midterm is based on key points!
There is a lot of reading but as long as you take notes you will pass his class. Only one hard paper that must be due; five pages long. He is kinda cute with long hair. He almost makes me want to change my major:P . Oh, He likes to joke around which can make the class a little fun.
Seems hard at first but just keep with it. It's gets easier after the end of OCT. Start you papers early. He's hard to take notes from.
Doctor Brazeal is a generally interesting person, but due to the size of the ANTHRO 140 class, i found it hard to give my full attention to his lectures. His class consists of long lectures with powerpoints and reading assignments. Make sure you do the Portal web discussions, they're worth credit and they're easy to forget so remember to do them.
Brilliant professor; linguistics is incredibly hard, but he made it interesting and fun to go to class. He's funny and has a sense of humor, and, oh yeah: is totally hot. He is definitely eye candy for the ladies.
Loved the class but that's cause it's my major. He reviews everything that will be on the test...so if you take notes on those days you should be good. Do the vista postings! if you miss them he'll let you make em up for half, but suggest you do it anyway, they're not hard at all...the books are interesting but not all that necessary. Super Smokin!

Brian is a really cool guy and keeps his class extremely interesting. The class is two 5 page papers, online discussions, a midterm and a final, so keep up with everything and start the papers early so you're not up late the night before they're due.
He's a really great professor. His lectures are really interesting. He assigns lots of reading but if you go to class everyday, it's not entirely necessary to read. He does review for exams which is very helpful. He's also really helpful in his office hours. This was one of my favorite classes so far throughout my college experience.
HE is very egotistical and treats us like we are in jr. high. If u leave during class he tries to embarrass you and takes ur attendance for that day away. He can grade his test accuratley. If u ask a question Ive seen him say we dont have enough time when most of the class is confused on the issue. It is sad that a person like this can teach a class
I started out thinking he was a nice guy but as the year went on he seemed to be a little controling. He yelled at a lot of people about sleeping and cell phones. I wouldnt recommened him. His class is boring.
i think his jokes are not very funny even tho he thinks hes dave chapelle.hes really just an all around dork.so if u like harry potter take this class.
I took is class last year and it was the best experience I've had in college so far. He's a lil crazy, but I like it! If you do the reading(which is long) you'll fly through tests and papers with ease. I got 104% and never studied. Buy into it and pay attention and you'll do great. he's very interesting
"doctor"brazeal is a complete control freak. He believes it is mandatory to attend his class forgetting that WE pay HIS wages.Someone must remind him its not highschool and attendance is optional.reading is overwhelmingly long and commplicated for non anthro majors.refuses to answer questions when time is limited and takes his class way 2 seriously
He is a bad ass. Attend lectures and it is the easiest class you will take.
I was very interested to begin with, but that slowly faded as the class went on. You dont really need to go to class, or do any of the readings. Some of his lectures are very interesting, while others will put you to sleep. He is a cool guy to listen to. A younger guy that is very passionate about what he does. I would recommend him.
I really enjoyed this class because his love for the subject was always evident and infectious. The material is very interesting although can be hard to get through. His class is tough and he does expect a lot from his students, but if you attend the lectures and keep up with the work, you will only benefit.
Can be interesting but talks forever, gives lots of extra credit his class is pretty easy just do the post and review for test and it should be easy
Dr. Brian Brazeal is an incredible professor who is extremely versed in the subject matter. He has a great sense of humor, is very down to earth, and is very helpful with any issues you may have, & is very patient. He expects a lot out of you, but if you are up to the challenge then you will have no problem. I highly recommend him!
He's a brilliant, fun guy who goes out of his way to clarify material for the students, weaving off-beat jokes into the lectures to keep people interested. And it works. Hard to fall asleep when you're laughing!
Looked forward to going to class every week. Very small class size made conversations easy and learned tons. Has a great sense of humor. Very low stress, just keep up with readings and listen to lectures. I've wanted to take another class from him, but haven't found room in my schedule.
Professor Brazeal is a very interesting guy. Attend lecture and do the vista postings and you are set. Lecture can be long, but he brings a lot of humor to the class too. I would take more classes from him, very interesting guy!
Keep up with vista postings and you'll be fine. I did everyone and got C's on the test and got a B in the class. We only had two exams. He is fun to listen to and very funny. Don't get caught texting in his class!
This class is really interesting. He is a fantastic teacher! Take notes on what he says, write them on vista posting, then for test study those and you'll be perfect. The tests are all specific things that he talks about so make sure to study but they are pretty easy.
The class itself is easy, if you attend every class you'll pass. He is a fun teacher and made funny comments, the class itself was boring though.
Professor Brazeal is very full of himself, but is very interested in his profession and in the subject that he teaches. A lot of the readings aren't very clear, but going to class helps to clarify any questions. He tells you exactly what is on both midterms, so study those things and that's all you need.
Every second of every lecture is interesting, because Professor Brazeal actualllyyyy cares about his class. He not only takes the time to make his slides captivating, with pictures or music, but he lectures in a story telling manner. He also talks about his own research and shows some really cool documentaries. Take this class, you won't regret it
gives super interesting lectures and definately cares about his students unlike many professors
he is very enthusiastic but talks about his personal achievements a little too much for my taste. midterms were way easier than I anticipated. don't really need to do the reading to get the information.
I personally thought this class was amazing. He is very enthusiastic and interested in his subject. He made the lectures interesting and easy to understand. I totally recommend this class if you don't mind a little bit of interesting reading. Also the assignments are super easy.
Brian does a great job at keeping everyone's attention during his awesome lectures. He has no patience for people who don't pay attention and decide to play on their phones, he's a great professor.
He is a funny guy. Hates people on their computer or on phones, and yells at them. He loves this subject of magic and religion. Little to no assignments. Only midterm, final, and weekly postings on Vista about readings, which are mostly interesting. Lectures can get boring, but most of the time gets your attention. take this class!
Definitely take this class! It meets a global cultures and general ed requirement and is awesome! The way he teaches makes it easy to learn as long as you pay attention an come to class, definitely don't text in class or miss any assignments.
Funny, great class, but LOVES to call people out.
This class is awesome. You have to go into the class with an open mind due to the nature of the material studied. Brian is an extremely passionate professor. He practices what he teaches, traveling all around the world. The class is easy. Only reason I got a B+ is because I slacked off a bit with the weekly postings. And he is oddly funny as heck.
he is just good
Super interesting class.
Very easy class! As long as you do your weekly posting, and attend class you can get an A. Material is interesting and he has some interesting experiences to share.
Guaranteed an A if you just go to lectures because all his tests are super easy even if you are half listening.Has tests reviews and gives you exactly what's on the test. DO POSTINGS!!! Super easy but half your grade and don't text he will embarrass you.
Brain is hands down the best teacher I've ever had. He makes his lectures extremely interesting and he really shows his dedication to his work when he teaches. I would highly recommend taking his Anth 140 class.
Best teacher ever! Take this class with him and you wont regret it!
There's about two reading assignments due each week along with a short Blackboard post (less than 200 words). Show up to every lecture, he goes over the material really well. Might as well buy the coursepack, it's about $50. He really appreciates people who participate in class and will notice. Don't be afraid to raise your hand... if you've read.
was a fun class, not too hard as long as you went.
Brazeal is so entertaining. He has an interesting voice so the lectures aren't terrible and the content is really cool. Just make sure you go to class or have friends sign you in. Also, the textbooks aren't really necessary. Overall a good class!
I highly recommend this course even if you don't need it to fulfill a requirement. Brian Brazeal is so passionate about his work and makes his lecture notes pretty simple to follow. Do the weekly vista postings, show up to class and you'll pass. DON'T TEXT IN CLASS, he'll kick you out if it becomes a constant thing.
The lectures are super interesting! There is always extra credit laying around. There is also online postings due Thursday before class. There isn't a lot of work, but just keep track of the assignments. There aren't tests, but two tests which are the mid term and final.
I personally did not enjoy taking this class with this professor. He seemed to rant on and was very proud of all the trips he has taken. He was extremely unhelpful when I visited him for office hours. He gets mad at people for being on their phones but its pretty easy to get away with.
My favorite professor by far.
Brazeal is one of my favorite professors ever! He is hilarious and really knows what he's talking about. The lectures are a bit long but they are very interesting. Take good notes and make sure to do the readings!! No use of any technology during class whatsoever, no phones, computers, etc. I personally loved this class and would take it again.
Attendance is required and you don't want to miss class, but the lectures are profoundly interesting. You will learn quite a bit from him and this class is wildly interesting.
Attending class is mandatory. This class is super interesting and would definitely reccomend it. You can use absolutely no technology in this class. You have to do a weekly vista posting. There are only two tests which is the mid term and final; both free response. Lectures seem to drag on but you defitely learn a lot
Brazeal is a great professor. He knows what he is teaching about, and has real world experience relating to the subject matter. He keeps lectures interesting with his personal stories. Even though there is a lot of reading, I would recommend him to anyone.
Very interesting class. His lectures are interesting if you're into subjects like death and witchcraft and different culture. He's also really enthusiastic which also helps with paying attention. HW is due every Thursday but it is not hard at all. I did not purchase the course packet but as long as you go toEVERY class and take notes YOU WILL PASS.
Professor Brazeal is a great with in-class lecturing although he tends to underestimate his time. His tests are really hard and do not rely on them for your grade in the class as it will be terrible if you only do the readings. The test is NOT scantron, it's entirely hand written answers so going to the class and doing the readings is very importan
Very interesting class! Great professor with tons of field experience. He's a real stickler about having phones out though, so make sure he doesn't catch you. Not many tests which is nice, but you do have a weekly BlackBoard post, which is mandatory if you want to pass. Really nice guy too, go to office hours if you need help!
Really interesting class and is fun. There is a lot of reading and a weekly post but many readings are very interesting. Is a stickler about phones and attendance. If you don't show up for class it affects your grade. Only two tests, midterm and final, if you take notes on his lectures and go to class the day of the study session you can easily pas
He is tough and can be confusing but you do learn quite a bit in his class. If you ask for help he will be there for you, he is funny, and he does not tolerate phone use during class which is nice since they are so distracting. You must stay caught up on the reading assignments to understand the lectures so don't fall behind.
Super nice and funny guy. Hits you with a lot of information in lecture but if you go and if you take notes you'll be fine. Just the midterm and final and if you've been paying attention and study a little for them it'll be fairly easy. Tests are entirely handwritten.
Funny and entertaining! I would def recommend him.
This class was so interesting, you end up having reading assignments due I believe twice a week online, on the reading notes that were assigned and then you discuss them in class. His tests were pretty easy as long as you go to class. He takes attendance every day and whenever you are not there he just takes the points off of your final.
Cultural Linguistics was very interesting & one of the hardest classes I've taken. Weekly heavy reading, and tedious case studies. Very helpful at his office hours, is more than happy to help you. There was a mid term (average), a reading notebook (crucial to grade) and a final paper (10-12 pages). overall a passionate, qualified & helpful prof.
I would go to all of his class and I would simply take notes during his class. I don't remember taking out my book out of my shelf as much. Everything you read are on the notes. Come to the Test Reviews because everything that he talks about will be on the tests/Exams. He is very interesting and makes the lectures interesting. Take his class!!
He starts off class with music and lectures are always entertaining . He is very passionate about his studies and ends up talking really fast so he goes throw slides quickly at times. He interacts with the students and is always up for a discussion. Overall he is an amazing professor.
Show up to every lecture, and post 100-200 words for the weekly discussion boards, you will pass and probably have an A. It's straight forward class, and Brazeal makes the lectures entertaining and informative, so you will have no problem showing up for lecture, You won't regret this class, this class might even make you want to change your major.
He's a nice person even though he seems scary. He can be confusing and you have to work hard to understand the material. There are lots of reading assignments so it is critical to your grade to keep up. If you get behind in the material you will struggle.
Dr. Brazeal is very intelligent, and knows a lot about what he's talking about. He's also great at fielding student complaints about his class and discussing why his subject is important. His grading criteria is somewhat difficult and is extremely unclear about the final paper. GET STARTED EARLY. He isn't a tough grader, though. He's hard but fair.
Dr. Brazeal is one of the best professors in the Anthropology department. He's passionate and funny which makes the class 10x times better. Ofcourse the class isn't easy nor extremely hard but just like any other class you must always pay attention and do your work. He's always available to help no matter what. Highly recommend him!
Professor Brazeal is very passionate about what he talks about and has life stories for almost every topic he covers. He is very experienced and will elaborate on topics if needed.
He was such a fun professor to have. Very passionate since he has traveled for his field and has a lot of stories as well. It is kind of boring during class since it is lecture heavy, but no big papers, just a midterm and a final and weekly submissions.
This class had weekly postings done on the readings. The readings are sometimes difficult to understand, but are fascinating. This class has only two test the midterm and finale so that is a plus, and he does a test review day going through all the test questions. This class also relies on attendance but there is opportunities for extra credit.
Class has tough material with a hard midterm and 10 pg paper. Get ready to read, his lectures are extremely loaded and his powerpoints dont convey everything so make sure you listen and take good notes. You will need the course reader for the paper. He is very entertaining and cares about his students who want to do well.
This class isn't as interesting as I thought it would be, but he is a great professor. Attendance is mandatory. There is opportunities for extra credit almost everyday of the week. Tests are handwritten in short answers and the only tests are the midterm and final.
Brazeal IS a smart man. He knows his stuff and has done extensive research abroad on a plethora of topics. However, intelligence does not make you a great professor. I have had him in 3 classes and every single one he discourages discussion and critical thinking. He doesn't want you to ask questions he doesn't know nor does he care for expanding.
He is clearly really enthusiastic about his studies and wants everyone to pass. His lectures are always really funny too. Your grade is based off of 1 BB post a week and tests-if you show up the day before the exam, he will give all the answers in class. He will dock 2% off your grade for each time you're absent w/o an excuse so go to class!
Absolutely LOVED this subject. Never really did the homework bc he goes over it in class the next day. Super cool guy, great music taste.
As long as you attend class and take notes youll be fine. Your grade drops 2% every class you miss so Id recommend you attend and your grade depends on 3 main tests and 1 Blackboard posting a week so potentially an easy A. Some of his lectures are really interesting and hes always enthusiastic about what he teaches.
GO TO CLASS. Attendance taken every day. Midterm, final, and weekly blackboard postings determine your grade. Brian tells lots of super interesting stories from his travels and offers tons of extra credit. There is a TON of assigned reading, but I never did any of it because he lectures so well. Easy class!
Dr. Brazeal is a great professor. He is very clear on what he wants and is one of the few professors who really MEANS to come to his office hours. I had him for two classes and received an A in both. A ton of reading is required, notebooks for the readings are also required so there is an unreal amount of writing. Softball grader, just do the work.
Anth 140 is an easy A. Lectures are interesting but are mandatory! He will drop your grade 2% every time you miss (unless you have a doctors note). There is also a lot of required reading but I never did it and still passed with an A. He has a midterm and final but will go over the answers the day before. Just show up and youll get an A.
Easy A, nice guy, cool stories, long lecture.
ANTH140 was an easy A for me. Go to class!! He tells a lot of interesting stories while he's lecturing and it makes the class so much more interesting. He does a midterm and a final exam- both are reviewed before the day of the test. 10/10 would recommend taking a class with Professor Brazeal!
He's a great professor and an easy A. I would take maybe an hour out of my week to get things done for his class. His lectures are pretty cool and he's incredibly kind and compensating. The online course basically did a discussion and then there was a midterm and final. Recommend if you want an easy A but to still learn a lot
Easy class and it was asynchronous this year due to the pandemic. This class is so interesting and I got to learn about so much about religion and magic. Hes so understanding and you can get ahead on assignments as much as youd like. Attend his office hours hes so understanding and very nice! One of the best professors Ive had so far.
Brian's lectures were pretty interesting and he always told personal stories from his research to further engage us. He was very understanding and his TA's always graded things quickly. I bought the course packet but didn't do much reading and still passed the class from going to all the lectures and paying attention.
Professor Brian is amazing. As long as you attend class, you shouldn't have any problems with his weekly discussions. Just make sure to take notes and honestly, you're golden! It was so fun learning about Magic/Witchcraft/Religion. He answers all your questions (as best as he can) and it's always fun to recite in class. Take his class!!
Brian is great he is funny and relatable. but the linguistics class is torture. he allows no technology whatsoever, has boring lectures where he just rambles on and on. To me, he didn't seem like a tough grader. He has reading notes every week on really long, insufferable, ancient texts that make no sense, so get ready for that. midterm was online
Brazeal is the best lecturer I have had at Chico as a junior so far. His material is super engaging and he is very understanding if you can't make it to class. Offers a ton of extra credit. Grades are based solely on weekly discussion posts and two exams. Go to lecture, listen, take notes and do EC if needed and you will get an easy and fun A.
The tests were extremely easy and we were able to work with people around us on them. We also spend the entire class before going over all the questions and basically answering them all. He is funny, cares about his students, and when he does get sidetracked it is always interesting learning about his career and all the places he has explored.
Talk about a passionate professor! Really knew what he was talking about and made lectures interesting and exciting.
discussion posts every week based in readings you were suppose to do, lots of tangents on random stories, some lectures are unnecessary to the material , two exams that you can take with the people around you which was very nice.
Had him for anthropology; he's extremely passionate and cares about what he does. The readings/most of class are pretty boring, but discussion posts are super easy. He will help you get back on track for class if you fall behind (was very understanding towards me). Overall great guy and easy A.
I truly have never met someone like Brian Brazeal before. The energy he puts out during each lecture is so unique and it really keeps you engaged. I am so so glad I took his class. He has lived a crazy life and he makes sure that he lets the people know. I learned a lot of interesting things from taking his class and would 100% recommend him
He's GREAT most of the stuff he is going to tell u are based on his experiences and history bc he has travel to most of the countries he teaches about. He doesn't say attendance is mandatory u show take it like it is bc if u miss a lesson, you'll get lost. He's really caring. There are weekly discussion post but they are easy. TAKE GOOD NOTES!
He's great! his class is fun and interesting; he will also tell u about his experiences while teaching the class bc he has travel to the countries he teaches about. Weekly discussion post but they are easy if u pay attention and read the readings. Only a midterm and final, PAY ATTENTION AND TAKE GOOD NOTES!!!
Professor Brazeal's ANTH140 class is a must-take. His lectures are engaging and he shares fascinating stories. Though attendance is mandatory, the workload is manageable. For study prep, unstuckstudy and the textbook are super helpful alongside the provided resources.
I would 100% recommend his classes
He is a super funny guy and tells amazing interesting stories on his experiences traveling to the countries he teaches about. I was very sick in the beginning of the semester and he was very caring and understanding about it. I also have an IEP and he made it accessible for me to get the videos of his lectures.
I deeply respect this professor. His lectures were inspiring, and he walked me directly to mental health services when I needed it. I'm not the only student he helped in that way. One time he got mad at a student for being on his phone even tho the guy was just taking notes on it. Besides that, this guy made me feel like life is actually worth it
