He is a hard grader, but I am not sure y that is a bad thing. I earned an A in his class, but I earned it. He uses the text, but only as a starting point. I loved his class lots of jokes a& he made speech class fun that was something I didnt think was possible.

Had him for CST 110. Good teacher, funny and I learned alot. He always answered my e-mails and I met with him in his office sometimes. That was helpful. He is helpful, but you need to ask questions. He doesn't know there is a problem unless you say so.

Had hinm for a film class. It was awesome watched a ton of movies and he got me interested in the stuff. The lectures were fun and helpful, but the text kinda sucked. It talked about Twins!!! He is a good teacher. Take him for film!

Took CST 100 with him. Very helpful. He had speech prep days where he met with us oneonone and looked at our speechs before we gave them. He really helped a ton with mine. Got our of there with an A thanks to all the help he gave. Cool teach. Take him if you get a chance.

Took the hybrid course with him too and I have no idea what this other kid is talking about. He was always clear and there is a little thing called the syllabus that always had a schedule, tool. I always knew what was going on and I didn't fail. I likde him so much that I am takin him again this semester. Awesome teacher and I will take again.

I took his 8 week CST 100. It was great. It was a very small class and we all became friends. He worked with each of us and even had "Speech Prep Days" where he met with us to talk about our speeches. ALWAYS go to the speech prep days. This helped a ton. Got an A with his help. Took his 110 Hybrid course last semmester. It was good. Not too many people showed up though. Not sure why. He is funny and taught me alot. Hated the research paper. but the group project and the speeches were cool. Take him, but go to class and do the online stuff! Tons of points happen in those places.

GREAT TEACHER! He was literally my favorite prof at nvcc. He made me laugh every class and the class was always laughing! He's such a nice professor and a very kind guy. You'll love this class!

Lots of work, but is a great professor, Had a misundrstanding on an assignment once because of some dates that were off, but I honestly recommend him! You will learn so much and have a great time doing it! One of my favorite profs at NVCC!

Just finished his public speaking class and it was great. We learned so much over 8 weeks. By far, one of the best teachers I have ever had. I am taking another class with him in the second 8 weeks and cannot wait for it!

Funny guy, fun class. He's helpful and enthusiastic. Took as hybrid so a lot of work (& group assignments). Do all of it & do well on the observation project. Material learned in class is NOT on midterm/final despite being open book (textbook doesn't help either). Speech is NOT hard if you try. Got C on both exams but a B+ for class. Recommended.

Professor Brown is HILARIOUS! The lectures may be long but they are entertaining enough to keep you interested. Definitely do all of the readings as that is half of the test. Overall this class was pretty easy and enjoyable.

Cool class and teacher. He gave me good feedback on my rough draft of my presentation and helped our group with the group project. This was my first hybrid course, but I was able to handle everything once I got the hang of the course.

Dr. Brown really taught us alot in a short amount of time. I am not a Communication major and I really only took the class because it was required for my nursing degree. It was so much more interesting than I thought it would be. The work was not hard and he tries to get us to tie everything into our own careers and lives.

Good teacheer. I took his class because I like movies and I thought it would be easy. It was fun to learn about them and how to make them. He isnt a hard grader if you keep up then your good.

Great teacher! He was helpful when I struggled with some of the material and assignments. He knows what he is talking about and made the class really fun. We had some activities for points for every class and a few other assignments. The hybrid part was mostly discussions and quizzes but no tests.

He's super nice and funny. I would recommend his class to anyone. He plays a lot of funny movies and clips. I hate going to class normally but I actually liked his movie class.

Best professor I have had in cinema so far! If you are a cinema major you have to take Dr. Brown! I am mostly interested in making productions & becoming a director, but he made film studies interesting & made me really think about what & why I want to make movies. Brown is a great professor, he is helpful with any questions you have on assignments and genuinely cares about his students. He made the class very interesting and makes you actually care about what you are watching and learning.

I love this course. We learned so much about some very interesting film history and concepts. I have taken every course Dr. Brown has offered and I have not regretted a single one. I am graduating this semester and I will miss having him as a teacher.

Good professor. He really helped me out when we went online. You learn about movies and answer some questions. There are a few more assignments but nothing too bad.

I am not a film major but I took this class because I like watching movies. He teaches you all about how films are made and what it takes to put a movie together. There are worksheets for each movie and some other stuff you do outside of class that you get to creative with. He did not convince me to make a movie but I learned alot.

Great teacher. I did not want to take an online class but I didnt have any options with the pandemic I took this class because it fit my schedule and I needed to take something. I loved the class really good lectures that were helpful and he had one on one tutoring sessions and group lecture sessions. Better than I thought an online class to be.

This was one of the most interesting classes I have taken at NOVA. I am an older student & thought I might get overwhelmed. NOT AT ALL. He really walks you through some interesting film theories and makes you look at film in a really different way. The workload is not bad. There are journals and discussion boards and a final essay.

This was the most helpful class I have taken. He teaches you about everything and I mean EVERYTHING about a professional portfolio. You have inclass and online discussions. Not much homework. He is laid back and wants you to do good in the film program.

The class is kind of one of those we all have to take its not the worst but its not the best. Mr. Brown makes it fun and makes you see how it relates to you. I am taking him again for film class and I can tell you it is not just in SDV. Take him for sure.

This class is amazing! He works with you on your portfolio which I was scared about when I started at NOVA. Gives great feedback and helps you to make it for your transfer and job. Not a hard class but really worth it.

Go to the classes and you will do great. He lectures and tells you exactly what to write on the assignments. The screening notes can be a little overwhelming at first but it is not bad after awhile. The essay at the end is not tough either just choose stuff you know. And he gives extra credit.

Doc Brown is SO knowledgeable and passionate about film! I loved the lectures and conversations which made the class enjoyable. The essay seems tough, but you get through it in stages. Just make sure to follow his feedback. There are journals and discussions. It's not tough. He is VERY approachable and kind. Go to his office hours for help!

Professor Brown is understanding. I took this class for my major and thought it would just be a repeat of the first one. It wasn't . We looked at some other movies and other ideas around movies. There is a final essay. Definitely I recommend him to others!

Easy class but required for Film majors. There is an essay at the end and discussions. Glad I took it during my first semester because it is going to help me going through the degree.

Dr Brown is so knowledgeable and passionate about film. I loved his discussions. He really wants you to give your input. I really learned more than I thought I would in a film class. The final paper is tough but he makes it come in three parts and gives you feedback along the way. The other class assignments are writing and not hard at all.

I took this class because I took his fist one and liked it. This class is different but you still do the notes sheets and journals. The final essay comes in 3 parts so keep up and you are good.

Not a hard class but you have to watch his announcements because it has all of the deadlines. Always willing to help students and gives valuable lessons about the film program. No tests or anything. Discussions and an essay. You have to show up.

Took this class because it was required for my major. It was fun because we talked about the history of movies. I learned alot and he always had something interesting to tell us. There are assignments he calls screening notes that you do and a journal each week. There is a final essay but he basically tells you everything to do good on it.

This class makes you think. You have these notes that you do while you watch the movies. He basically tells you what you need to write down and watch for in the movie and then you wait for it to get there. He has you write about a movie the first week and you gotta go back and watch it again at the end so know what you did.

Took this as an elective but i am glad i did. he teaches about movies and makes you be really interested. the hardest part was getting the last essay done because it is only seven weeks. not bad but gotta work at it.

Dr Brown cares about his students and it really shows in this class.He makes tough content easy to understand but you have to make sure you ask questions when you have them. The assignments can be tough if you dont pay attention to the movies but he basically tells you what to write. Take him if you can.

I tokk this calss as an elective cause I am going for IT. It wasnt hard but he makes you think a ton about movies some of the movies were boring but others were good. I would take another class with him but he isnt IT. There are 2 short essays and movie idea thing. there are sheets he gives you every week. Not bad.

Last class at NOVA! I took every film teacher here and Brown my last semester. He said he wants to mentor everyone & he tells you how to make your portfolio better. Some of this was pretty heavy on transfer but he did cover things about us who want out working now. You complete all of your portfolio in here. Not hard. Don't miss the due dates.

Doctor Brown is very easy going and laid back. The in class work was pretty easy since you can ask any questions bc he is there. Homework was tougher bc they were essays.

He is a great teacher! I wish I took this class earlier because he tells you everything you need to do through the film program. He talks about transfer and getting a job but he mostly talks about getting the portfolio done over the time of the degree. He talks about scholarships. My advice is to take it earlier than I did because it will help you.

Class was good and we watched a lot of movies but maybe too many movies because we had to watch one every week.

I liked him alot and when it came to the assignments he was pretty available when I needed help. I recommend him because he cares about his studnets.

Great class. I thought it would be a waste of time when my advisor said I had to take it but I am glad I did. He focuses everything on being an artist and your degree program. Good for art and film majors. The assignments are easy with one a week. Some short quizzes and others are short assignments.

Good class and teacher. He is very passionate about film. I am in cybersecurity but I thought it was an easy class with short assignments each week. Everybody in my class was quiet so he did most of the talking. So I guess he probably was expecting us to talk. I'd take him again if movies were my thing.

Easy class. He makes you do discussions each week and you have two other assignments for the course. It's only 1 credit so maybe that's why it's easy but idk?

Great class and probably my favorite of the film studies classes. He knows film pretty much inside and out. I liked how he let us choose our own research and write about what we wanted to write about. The readings were a little tough at first but his lectures tell you how to read them.

This was a fun class! We watched movies almost every time we met. Maybe twice we didn't but one was when we made up our own idea about a movie. He has worksheets each week but all were easy because he basically tells you what to put down. We did a film review and an essay too. Some people said they didn't like some of his movies.

This was a great class and Mr Brown made it very enjoyable. I learned much more than I thought I would going into it. Each week has a discussion and there is a final essay. Not hard but worth it.

Good. Fair grader. Easy lectures and assignments.
