He's a good teacher, the classes are interesting, he has an interesting personality...but he gives out 3 essay midterm, 3 essay final, 4 essay homeworks, and a hard project at the end. It's a good class if you want to be a sociology major. If not IT'S TOO HARD!

Taking this class for fun. I enjoy this class. It is very interestesting , there is almost a class discussion everyday thats funny since people almost treat him like a therapist. Personally its easy. I mean a take home midterm and final? Time consuming but easy. Fun Class!!!

i took him in the summer and it was a easy class. You just need to attend and take notes. We had 4 homeworks, a midterm and a presentation that was our final. The midterm was open notebook!!. He also leaves extra credit, so a good class for the summer!!

He's one hard professor but he's sometimes cool and funny. 4 Essay homework, 3 mid term essay's and a final, that you can take home, you better not turn it late because points would be taken off. Also there's a hard project at the end, you better pratice your presntation because he give us a hard question at the end.

He is a cool teacher most times. He teaches and lectures through most of the class time. Many discussions on hand. His rule of being in class seems unreasonable. Cmon' it's "college". After the third tardy you get deducted 5 points each time after that. READ HIS HANDOUTS OR YOU'LL GET POP QUIZES!!!!

If there was a circuit for sociological comedian's he would have a star on the walk of fame. This class is only tough cause it makes you think. Show up and do the homework you'll love him, I know I do. I would love to hear what he talks about ****. oohhhhh would love to hear it.

I totally appreciate Brutlag's wit and intelligence. I honestly come to class just to hear him talk. It soothes me. I'm serious. This course is difficult, but it holds my interest. Brutlag is an amazing professor and little does he know I collect his hairs and put them in my shrine of awesomeness. Yea, you Brutlag.

Very easy teacher...homework and tests are all take home and easy as long as you pay attention...It's fun to hear his little stories that he throws in...his face expressions and impressions of things got my shy little self to laugh out loud quite a few times. his nerdiness and passion for sociology is quite charming in a way...good class...hahaha

Mr. B was a great teacher! intelligent and seems to enjoy his field. I would recommend you take his course he has a midterm and final but he is very precise on what he expects. He also is very organized and would love to take his class again

If your are not willing to do all work then this is not the class for you. He gives no H.W. besides reading and all tests and final are are take home. This class will be hard if youre not into writing 6 page essays. All based on class notes which are very clear.

his looks can be deceiving but he knows what he is talking about. you will have no problem passing the class as long as you take ALOT of notes. made me enjoy sociology. when you ask him to repeat himself, he does and makes his previous info more clear. enjoys joking around. i hated the class at first but began to thoroughly enjoy it. He is very passionate about what he teaches and if you try to rebuttal with him he will argue back. He teaches well but attendance is pretty mandatory and the exams (which are all essays) are pretty tough. If you are just taking the class just to pass...it will be pretty difficult, but if you try youll be fine =)

he is a great prof. i took him for soc 101 and 114 he is awesome he explains everything clearly attend class take notes participate and you should do fine the class is not too hard but i highly recommend him! i will take another soc with him! ask questions he is helpful he offers extra credit and he is funny!

Best professor ever had. Want to succeed in life/university?... this is the class to take. Not easy class and attendance is a must for an A,B, or C. He's very funny and helpful plus the class is very interesting. Definitely not a class for the average lazy college student. But take him you wont regret it. Thanks Brutlag!

Really hard, you have three 6 page papers due, a 1 page hand written assignment due every class meeting on a chapter or reading assignment and a 7 minute presentation at the end of the semester on a research topic. Unless your majoring in SOC dont take, the work load is alot!

God took him for about 2 months. I actually withdrew from the class the last day without a w. He is probably on the list as one of the hardest graders at Rio Hondo. If you want to transfer with a high gpa take another class.

THE BEST TEACHER PERIOD! This is one of the few teachers that actually teaches and doesn't just blab on about his personal life. He is not a hard grader, you just need to take good notes and you're set. get ready to see the world a completely different way after his course ends :S

I came from high school with 5 AP classes and was ranked #10 at Whittier High. Personally i think this class was easy, just take good notes and prepare diligently and you shall be fine. Took him in the summer and it was not as hard as it thought it would be, I got an 89% on the only test and 90% on a presentation I didnt prepare for, Easy A : )

This class was very eye-opening. His class was really easy. Easy A. Take him if you want to prepare for a University. This guy is soooooo easy compared to my professors at UCI so just know he is like a 2 on a scale of one to ten, where as to get an A at UCI for bio is like a 7/10.

I have taken him for two classes now and he is a great professor! He may seem mean and strict but he is very helpful and has passion for what he does. I recommend taking him.

His class overall was very easy and interesting he doesn't bore you at all. He makes sure what his saying doesn't bore his students and plus sometimes he even tells his students some experiences he has encountered which some are pretty funny. I highly recommend to get him ASAP.

Professor Brutlag is great! He is probably one of the best professors at Rio Hondo. If you want to learn and prepare for a University I suggest you take Brutlag. He is quiet humorous and I promise you that you will not be bored ever in his class. He isn't easy, but he isn't hard either. You ear your grade in his class, it isn't given to you.

Do NOT be afraid to ask for help. Whether it's about the journals, ASA format, mid-term, extra credit, or presentation, Brutlag is more than willing to provide assistance. You MUST attend the mid-term review day otherwise you're sure to fail. Other than that, this is a really interesting class but requires your fair share of effort.

Brutlag is blunt&can be very intimidating.But he is also a very nice teacher&is very passionate with this subject.I'm not on top of my classes.However,his lessons are always interesting&looking back,I enjoyed doing his assignments.Although it was a pain in the butt too.He's by far my favorite teacher at RHC.You'll get the grade you'll deserve.

He is a very good professor, knows all the material. is beyond helpful and patient. is very strict on grading, offers some extra credit. his exam are a bit hard but if you use the notes from his lectures you can pass, don't miss and don't be late or he deducts points from grade. and talk when asks questions helps your grade alot. great class

Great Teacher!! He is really easy to follow, and his lectures were never dull. We took a lot of notes and everything he spoke about is important!! The exams were very straight forward if you studied just a little you'll do fine. There was daily homework, so you must read the book. It was scrambled chapters. Overall very great class!!

This class is incredibly easy,with that being said there is a very simple trick to this course. Mirror all of Brutlag's opinions and you will do great. I had opposing viewpoints on almost every aspect of class and was open about it. This made me get poor grades for the first few weeks, then I started writing his opinions in my papers and I got A's.

Be careful not to slack off, i already know im failing this class for sure because i actually started trying a bit too late. You need to be on top of your stuff, pay attention and take notes, and even though everybody hates it, do the readings. Your grade reflects your effort.

Hard teacher but worth it. Pass his class, you can pass any class in college. He seriously prepares you for university level work. Slackers avoid him. He is fair and as will give you as much help as you need. My other classes are easier now after taking him.

AMAZING professor! You must value your education to really appreciate his class. He seems intimidating, but if he sees you value his time, and pay attention in class, he shows his appreciation. Test are all written, readings given often and a seven minute presentation. I can say his class made all other classes feel like a breeze.

Respect him and he'll respect you. Students think he's tough but he's really not, just pay attention in class, take down his notes (they're very helpful), participate and you'll be fine. The tests are pretty easy I got A's and B's on all of them. He has a sense of humor and is pretty cool. Just don't test him, be mature about class.

Great teacher. Challenges his students to think. A research project is due at the end of a semester. If you are not on top of the game this project will creep up on you and cause you to fail if you don't present. So all the hard work you did will be for nothing. I really thought I would end up with a low C, but received a B. Finishing felt AWESOME

By far the hardest A I have earned. The material is taught through straight lecture and conflicted with my initial beliefs. Overall, a great class and professor. Make sure to do his study guides and ask him during office hours if you are on the right track with the short answer questions, they will save you on exam day.

Love him! He is so funny! Tough grader , but you learn so much in his class. He is not joking when he says he will give pop quizzes when your phone rings or vibrates. LOL Also beware on presentation day he will call randomly and if you're not there he will take off points.

You either love him or hate him and I absolutely loved this class! If you're a sociology major and go to Rio, you don't really have an option.

Mr. Brutlag seems hard at first, but he turns out to be a really funny guy at times. As long as you take notes and review them you'll be okay on his class. His test are based off his notes and they consist of multiple choice, short answers and an essay. The final is a presentation, but it's not hard, you'll be fine. :)

He's hard but if you don't show up and don't prepare your going to fail. He is the toughest professor I have ever had. He prepared me for what I'm going to face in Sociology at Cal State LA. He's a good instructor and knows a lot. He tells it like it is. If you want an easy A, he's not the teacher for you. You have to work for it.

This class was by hard the hardest class I've ever taken at Rio, but I must say I did learn a lot from him. He prepares his students for a university level class. one thing I can say is that take good notes. He will not tell you when HW is due and for your final, you have to do a project. His tests are not easy if you don't study you will fail.

He won't remind you about upcoming exams or homework and he's tough with grading, but that's fine because who doesn't want to work their best? Hard to pass with a C if you don't try your best. I learned so much in his class. Best class I've taken.

Professor Brutlag has been one of the best instructors I have had while at Rio Hondo. He gives his students the opportunity to ask questions and is happy to help during his office hours.

You can tell Brutlag is very passionate about Sociology as he gets really into the lectures. I was always looking forward to the lectures because of how interesting he made them. As for his study guides, they help a lot. Just study what he tells you to and ask a lot of questions! There is a group project for the final that is pretty easy.

He is a tough grader, just be as detailed as you can be and try connecting terms with each other. He is an intense teacher, you will not be bored in his class. he knows what he is talking about, i would recommend taking him and taking his lessons as life lessons lol.

One of the best professors at Rio Hondo. He prepares you for university-level classes. He is very passionate and easy going, but he WILL put you in your place if you cross him. At first i was extremely intimidated by him. I had heard so many rumors about him. I just completed his course and let me just say he is one of the BEST professors i have had the honor of taking. He has prepared me for my major and for the rest of my college education. Amazing overall, do the work, go to class.

Proffesor Brutlag is an amazing educator. He is very strict about attendance and participation. As long as you do your readings, assignments, and homework you will be fine also participate in class and ask questions. His class was the toughest class I have yet to have but his class did prepare me for all my other college courses.

Brutal is an amazing professor! Mostly lectures, off the board- and are not posted online later, so you must be in class to get the notes- or find someone who takes really good notes- not everything he says goes on the board. A few essays, he wants them a certain way, so follow is best you can- ask if you're unsure! 1 final project-really easy-

Brutag prepares you for University classes; toughest class I've taken at Rio but again he's preparing us for university classes. lecture heavy-but he keeps it interesting with how he lectures and his enthusiasm. Grades tough- follow ASA style to the T, final project is super easy- it is a 7minute presentation- but on ANY socio topic.

Lots of students are intimidated by him and are afraid to engage in class, which is a shame. You shouldn't be scared of your professors. That's on him, not the students. Once you talk to him though he's very fun and engaging. I looked forward to his lectures and if I had time I would take more of his classes.

Professor Brutlag is a great instructor and helps his students understand the material and asking questions in class or office hours really helps. People I know who have taken him before said he's a horrible professor, but he's not, he just pushes his students to think and be better students. The material can be a lot at times, but just study.

Sociology is a hard class to pass. You really have to pay attention in his class and work for your grade, but if you can pass this class you can pass any class.

My counselor warned me not to take him. I'm glad I didnt listen. He actually cares if you become a good student. If you just want to pass a class, take someone else. But if you want to learn and be prepared for the future, he's the one you should take.

Amazing professor. Took him my first semester of college, I am now in my fourth and was so happy to see Brutlag is still at Rio. Amazing speaker, I always looked forward to his class. You can tell he knows just what he is talking about and he has a passion for his work. He has changed my outlook on society tremendously, he really makes you think!

Had him for as good while and he was a interesting guy. I have him for sociology again because Im taking it online . I dropped because I was taking 17.00 units.

Professor Brutlag is my favorite professor I have taken so far. I learned so much in his class. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches. He is specific in what he is looking for and gives resources to help. All of his exams and assignments are reliant on his lectures, so attendance is necessary to pass. Highly recommend him.

Professor B is intimidating at first. There are lots of articles and a textbook to read. 4 homework essays of 2 pages in length, an essay midterm and final, plus a final project. The work was extensive but I learned so much and enjoyed the class material. Every homework and paper I turned in got better with my grade but get ready to read every day

Prof Brutlag is pretty intimidating, I took his class Fall 19 but dropped right away bc I got scared lol. I had no choice this year and honestly it was one of my easiest classes. He teaches to prepare for Univ, and you just need to carefully read his instructions to understand what he's asking for. Passed with a high A. (There's also extra credit)

This was my second Sociology class with Professor Brutlag and I'm so happy I chose to take SOC102 with him. Prepare to do a lot of reading, both textbook and additional material provided. Prof B's class is very interesting, it'll open your eyes up to much more. Overall be prepared and ready to learn and discuss with others.

Funny and chill guy. Lectures were enjoyable despite covering heavy topics. He assigns lots of readings, but you don't need to do them. Pay attention and take great notes to pass the quizzes and know how to write in ASA style to get easy As on essays. My only issue is that his quizzes are 3 hours long and were difficult. Other than that, not bad.

Brutlag's class is tough but engaging. His lectures can be long, but he explains topics well. Attending is a must, and the readings are helpful. Consider using unstuck study along with other study tools to ace the quizzes and essays.
