Dr. Cahill is awesome! He is the one of the only professors I've had that really cares about his students and wants them to do well. The tests are challenging, but as long as you pay attention in class and review the slides you should be good to go. His lectures are really fun and interesting! He makes the material relatable and easy to understand!
He is a great professor. I went to his office hours and emailed him with questions and we goes above and beyond to help you understand. You should study hard for his exams and read the book. I enjoyed the class and he really wants you to succeed if you put in the effort. Attendance is a must and he posts lectures which are very helpful.
He cared about attendance this semester because he was new to UF but we had clicker questions that helped us on the exams that were our participation points. He is a funny teacher who wants to make the class as easy for students as possible and cares about the material that he's teaching. I would recommend taking any class he teaches.
Really awesome professor! Would definitely take again if I could. He made attendance mandatory with clicker q's but gave 5 passes to miss class and still get an A. His tests are based off his lectures but the book helps (only 4, and puts up study guide for each), he gives a few 5 question pop quizzes, and only gave one other actual assignment.
Best professor I've had at UF! His lectures are amazing and he really cares about his students. Really engaging, funny, and he is really smart.
Best professor at UF! Clicker is used to poll every day so you get a point for each lecture you attend. He often gives extra credit probably because your grade relies on test grades and one writing assignment. Only thing i didn't like was the pop quizzes as i generally did bad. But great lecturer and overall great man!
Really good professor he seems a bit cold at first but he really cares about his students!!
Amazing professor. His lectures are interesting and you can tell he cares for his students. He presents controversial material in an objective manner based on the scientific literature. He had mandatory participation and four fair exams to make up the grades. I would highly recommend him.
His ability to break down complex material so you can understand it is unparalleled. Not only is he brilliant but he also genuinely cares about his students and is just absolutely hilarious.
Entertaining lectures but difficult tests and quizzes. Quizzes in class pop quizzes with no makeups which also cover material not yet covered in class which makes them difficult. 1 short essay that is graded quite hard. Exams not too bad as long as you read the textbook and relate that with the lecture.
I loved Dr. Cahill! His lectures were entertaining and very informative. PowerPoints cover virtually everything on his exams, and he uploads them to Canvas. There is only one assignment, and it is a bit difficult, but he is readily available if you need help. I did not buy the textbook, but I did just fine with his lectures and exam reviews.
Professor Cahill really cared about his students and the course material. He includes lots of examples and past experiments. He is always willing to meet with you outside of class, which you should do with the one paper he assigns. Exams are very easy if you study. There are 4 pop quizzes throughout the semester that are easy if you pay attention.
I enjoyed having professor Cahill as my professor for social psych. Tests are straightforward as long as you read the book and attend lectures. Pop quizzes aren't too bad but it's hard to do well if you don't prepare. There is one essay assignment which isn't too bad but he graded it pretty harshly. Overall the class was fair.
Dr. Cahill wants you to succeed, but he's not really going to hand out A's like candy. He can come of as callous, but I think that he's just more into tough love than into coddling his students. He's willing to work with you and is very easy to approach, will make an effort to help people who are failing if it's a big problem.
Professor Cahill is nice and makes lectures enjoyable. He gives great examples that help you remember the concepts, and his exams are straightforward with only a few trick questions. Don't read the book before lectures though, since you will realize that quite literally everything he says and the demonstrations he does are copied directly from it.
I've never had a professor care so much for their students. He really wants you to do well and will do whatever he needs to help you. Very good at explaining concepts. Test are really hard but nothing he doesn't cover. Love him and the class!
He is the most caring professor I've ever had. He is definitely a tough love kind of guy but he will bend over backwards to help you. Has little patience for slackers though. Love you professor Cahill!!
Really makes you work for your grade but is very understanding and guides you along the way. Continuously enthusiastic about his field of work and always has a spiffy jacket on. Definitely recommend taking his class if you have a passion for psychology!
I usually don't like online classes so avoid if possible but he was amazing!! The best class I have taken in my college career. I left each Mariel wanting to change our legal system. He is so passionate and it's contagious. Really funny during lectures and loved watching making a murderer. Take this class!
Great professor and person. Always willing to meet you outside of class and work with you through difficulties you may have. Tough class but if you listen well and make you understand the material before the exams you will be fine.
This was the most difficult psychology class I've ever taken. He is nice outside of class and seems to care for you, but really doesn't do much to help you. Grading criteria is very unclear and the class was very disorganized (him and TA's would say different things). You only did well if you were lucky and good at assuming what he wanted.
I am so happy my friend told me to take Dr. Cahill. I have never had to work so hard for a class but it was very rewarding. If you need help he was always available. Responds to emails instantly. Really funny lectures too! I have already started using my knowledge gained from Dr. Cahill in my lab that I am an RA in. Take him if you want to learn!!!
Great class that opened me up to a new area of psychology. Really knowledgeable, fun lectures, and interesting class. Easy A!
Go to every lecture, and you're sure to get at least a B, depending on how much effort you put in. Don't buy the textbook -- 99% of exam questions come from powerpoints (he uploads to Canvas). Exams are half MC, half short response. Hilarious, knowledgeable, easy-going, makes self available. 10/10 recommend. Fav prof. at UF (had him twice)!
Quizzes are to point and cover what was just learned, study the powerpoints for exams, and go to office hours for the Psych. Consumer Assignment (If you fail this assignment, you will not pass the class!) He gives lots of extra credit, but he will not curve your grade. Overall, very caring and kind, he will go the extra-mile for you in class.
Dr. Cahill is an awesome professor and a man of integrity. His class was impossible, though. I never did well on the tests even though I KNEW the study guide back and fourth, and his TAs grade so strictly that it is hard to do well. Spend time in office hours and try to get as much help and feedback as possible. Pay attention to grading rubrics.
Cog Psych was a very interesting class. However, Dr. Cahill grades the exams and papers to the point where you are lucky to get a B on them. Lectures are very long and a good majority of the exam content is stuff you have to listen for and decipher for yourself. I studied the powerpoints and study guides and still got a low grade.
Dr. Cahill is one of the most accessible professors at UF. Sometimes his explanations are unclear and he seems to talk in circles, but he puts a lot of effort into utilizing real world examples for concepts. This class is not difficult, especially if you read the textbook ahead of time- his lectures follow it closely. There's a ton of extra credit
An amazing professor! He pushed me harder than any other professor I have taken but he is always there to help and explains topics clearly. His greatest ability is explaining tough concepts in terms you can understand. On top of that he is very nice, caring, and hilarious! Definitely take him if you want to learn!
This is a completely honest review: If you want a professor that is unhelpful, rude, inconsiderate, and who seems like he wants that reputation, then take this class. He also makes really bad jokes. This class is harder than it needs to be and he seems to like that.
He is very difficult but he makes sure you learn in this class. He cares for every student and will do whatever he can to help you learn. He held reviews for us outside of class and stayed for hours to make sure we knew the material. I have never known a professor who cares so much. Thanks Cahill!
The most caring and inspirational professor I have ever had. He is so passionate and it is contagious. If you like law and order then you will love this class! Always makes time for you outside of class and cares about each and every student.
Dr. Cahill was one of the most amazing and inspirational professors Ive had at UF. Hes dedicated and knows how to challenge his students. This class was difficult but it was worth it. I would recommend this professor if youre serious and out learning and want a mentor for grad school. He is also a very interesting and caring person. Take him!
Great professor, amazing class. Honestly, its a lot of work and it can be dull at times but Dr. Cahill was funny and made it entertaining. If research is not your passion, then you dont have to worry about getting and amazing grade in this class, but if you want to be a better writer, this professor will take the time to give you feedback always.
Dr. Cahill is great. My class was hard but I learned a lot. Yes, you have to study but you should be grateful to come out of his class having learned something and being a better writer. He gives good feedback and can be tough with his grading but it's always been fair, plus there's always an opportunity for improvement. Also, he's pretty funny!
Prof. Cahill is an amazing professor who is super passionate about Legal Psychology. I have learned a lot from his class and furthermore he really cares about his students. I definitely recommend taking Legal Psychology with him because it's a super easy and enjoyable class! Make sure to read the textbook before exams and watch the lectures.
Dr. C is so awesome! Ive taken 2 classes with him and done well in each. Super nice, funny, knowledgeable, and encouraging of students. Hes very direct and can be blunt, but I appreciate how upfront about everything he is. His class is well structured/straightforward and he is a fair grader.
Super easy class with clear grading. Easy A. Sometimes lectures can be boring but interesting material.
Amazing. I love him. he is so passionate & makes you feel like you matter as a person. He offers help outside of class, and despite all of the extra credit opportunities I still MAY NOT pass the class. Hardest class of my life, no doubt. Incredibly difficult tests. As a person, Dr. Cahill rocks and I look forward to another easier class with him.
Took online legal psychology over the summer, taking cognitive in the fall. Very reasonable professor, tests are appropriately structured.
Took his sensory psychology class to fulfill my psychology outside concentration and the class itself wasn't that bad--long and extremely scientific lectures, easy quizzes, simple discussions--but the exams? Hands down some of the most difficult exams I've ever taken. I would've had an A+ had it not been for those four nightmare exams.
The class overall was nicely structured. Beware! You HAVE TO go to class. The idea of one group paper was much more relieving than the other teachers' solo essays. The problem I had with him was his attitude. He is very blunt and sometimes crass towards his students, which doesn't make very many students want to go see him after class. :(
I struggled in this class at first, but after I went to office hours and he gave me tips for how to approach the class, I excelled. Although he can come across as rude, he truly cares for his students and wants them to succeed. Attend class, follow his study guides, communicate with him, work hard on your group project. It's difficult but doable.
He made his class more difficult than it needed to be. The way he grades your exams is unfair and extremely tough. One exam I had all of the correct information written down, but didn't use words he would so I failed it. Didn't pass one exam and I went to every class and studied my butt off. The group paper is graded by the TA, no communication.
He is an incredible professor. He helps you out a lot throughout the semester. He is tough, but his tough teaching methods help you learn more. I learned a huge amount of information from him, and he definitely earned my respect as a professor. I am grateful that I had him this semester.
Dr. Cahill is one of the best professors I've ever had. I also had him for EXP3604 last spring and his exams in both classes are tough, so you really need to know the material as well as how to apply it to real-life situations in order to do well, but his lectures are awesome and he is very clear about what you need to know. 10/10 would recommend.
Dr. Cahill does a really good job at teaching the material and makes it interactive so you are not bored. This class is tough however, so don't expect an easy A because you need to watch the lectures, read the book, make flashcards, and DO HIS STUDY GUIDES! But all in all, a really interesting class.
Amazing prof. Very passionate about the legal system and his lectures were great. Clicker questions in class, 4 exams and a group project. The exams got easier throughout the semester imo, they arent too difficult but def need to study. He teaches to the book so its a useful study tool. Dont slack on the group project. Cool guy 10/10
Dr. Cahill is super nice & intelligent but I did not like how the online class was structured. The lectures are so long and sometimes he will ramble about things that aren't relevant to the chapter content. The quizzes you only have 5 minutes on for 10 questions and some of them are oddly specific. Don't take this class if you don't have to.
Dr. Cahill is by far the nicest professor I have ever had! He definitely does not just hand out A's; you have to read the textbook, watch the lectures, and study to do well. Despite that though, he WANTS you to succeed. He sent out individual messages to students if you significantly improved your exam grades congratulating you for it! Amazing prof
Dr. Cahill is a great professor. I struggled the first few weeks, but also did not try hard enough. Watch his lectures, they are important for tests, and really help with the material. Quizzes are 5 minutes for 10 questions but it is possible to pass them!! 4 proctored exams, no resources. They are tough, so just make sure you study!
Dr. Cahill is great. His legal psych class consists of a few lectures every chapter, with a 10 question quiz each week, 5 discussion posts, and 4 tests. He gives a study guide that helps a lot for the tests and as long as you watch the lectures and read the chapters, you'll do great. He's super helpful and cares a lot about his students.
He replies to messages very fast and is very sweet, he is always sending out messages of encouragement. His exams are pretty hard, though. He releases study guides and even if I do the entire thing (10-14 pages), it doesn't help much on the exam. This is the only time I've had a C in a class in my entire life, because exams are 71% of the grade.
This was the most difficult class I have taken. I would not recommend. He often came off as thinking he was smarter and better than his students. He often made me feel like I was stupid when I asked questions.
Amazing professor with great lectures that are enjoyable. Very open-minded & says he is middle-grounded on politics, which is hard to find in a professor. Weekly quizzes that are difficult because of the time you have (30 sec per question). Make sure you watch lectures/read book before taking them. 4 exams (one dropped) and discussion posts.
Comparatively, the toughest grader I have ever had. Quizzes allow 30 seconds per question. Grading on discussions is always in the 55-60% class mean range. Exams are proctored, difficult, and prepare to learn names and years like multiplication tables. First time getting a C in my entire career and last time taking a class with him.
Dr. Cahill is an awesome lecturer and pushes you to succeed. From experience, you need to work to earn an A in the course. TAKE THE DISCUSSIONS SERIOUSLY and use the textbook when writing them. I highly recommend watching the lectures and taking notes when prepping for the quizzes (5 min each) and exams. DO THE EXTRA CREDITS! (Can save your grade!)
Dr. Cahill is a very nice professor that does really seem to care about his students. However, his exams for legal psych were completely unfair and asked the most minuscule and irrelevant details. Exam averages were usually in the 70s because he asked questions that were heavily number based and easy to miss. You can study and still not do well
I should have known better and not taken this professor again. His Cognitive Psychology wasn't as insane in terms of grading though. Avoid yourself a headache and tanking your GPA; avoid like the plague. His good rate here because he is knowledgeable and kinda funny guy, but his standards of grading aren't commensurate with any other class.
Cahill is passionate about the subject material, gives great lectures, and you will learn. Exams are difficult, but not the type of difficult where youre pushed to think critically - more the regurgitate obscure facts difficult. Study guide will not cover the majority of the exam, which makes it more misleading than helpful. Proceed with caution.
Prof. Cahill is a great lecturer and by the look of the calendar, you will think the class is manageable; however, his grading criteria and the specificity of the questions by which he grades will tear you apart. It may seem as though it is not a lot of work until you actually get to see the extension of the lectures, videos, and readings.
Dr. Cahill is a great professor and lecturer of psychology, and he is very passionate about the subject. He's very engaging and is always willing to make himself available to answer questions. He definitely makes you earn your grade so make sure to go to office hours and ask questions. He was also very considerate of us when we went online
Great lecturer! Was super easy to understand material and do well on the exams. Professor Cahill is my favorite professor to date. Exams weren't a cake walk, but as long as you watch the lectures, you will do great! He makes it interesting with lots of demonstrations and being a great guy.
Do yourself a HUGE favor and scroll passed this class when choosing your electives. Dr. Cahill is an extremely tough grader and is very rude. He belittles his students and seems to find joy in their failure. The content is interesting, but the tests are very different from what he teaches in the weekly lectures.
Great guy. But it's not him teaching you the material; you gotta fend for yourself in this class. Exams aren't reflective of how he teaches. The discussions are graded by TA's, which seem to be the harshest graders at UF. Despite the tough grading style, the material is interesting. Get ready to prioritize this class over all others.
Dr. Cahill is tough. Exams are 10x harder than what he teaches during lecture and get ready for 5 minute quizzes that have 10 questions and you can't even read them fast enough. He can be rude and the class feels impersonal, it's like my professor is a robot and the TAs were awful. It's possible to get an A if that's what you care about.
If you really want to learn, then take him. However, his exams are very tough and the question wording is the oddest Ive ever seen. The discussions have a loose grading criteria where sometimes its just up to the TAs feelings. Hes pretty nice, but he has an apparent condescending attitude. He is NOT accommodating to students at all! IWOULD AVOID
Great professor, HOWEVER, he makes this class much more difficult than it has to be just because he can. He gives you 5 minutes for 10 question chapter quizzes and grades really hard w no real criteria. When people voiced their concerns, he made a whole announcement defending his hurt feelings rather than making any accommodations (during COVID).
Made the class way harder than it should have been. If you want to truly learn the material then take this class because you REALLY have to work for your grade. Made absolutely no accommodations during covid and only gives 5 min for a 10 question quiz. EXTREMELY condescending and offers no real assistance. Do not take him!!
After the FIRST test and first 2 discussions I had a D, reached out and the first thing he told me was I should drop. I never dropped before. He essentially called me too dumb for cognitive & said I only got good grades in other courses bc theyre easier also said my ego got in the way of me succeeding in his course. I got As in all other courses
Extremely condescending and patronizing. He asked his students to submit evaluations and then instead of actually listening to our concerns got insulted and proceeded to defend himself. Pretty much told me to reconsider my career path because I made a mistake. Wouldn't take his class if you don't want your entire life consumed by it.
Dr. Cahill is an experienced professor in his field and it shows in his lectures. He is easy to reach, as are his TAs. He wants you to succeed and gives you the resources to do so, but you really need to work for it. Sometimes discussion posts are graded subjectively, so beware. Carefully read and watch lectures to be prepared for exams. Good luck!
Professor Cahill doesn't hand out A's. His quizzes are 5 mins for 5 questions. I promise, once you read the notes and his lectures before, you will see that 5 mins is enough. You will have to take good notes and watch lectures. He gives extra credit
Terrible at making quizzes. He is one of those professors who asks for the smallest insignificant detail in 50 pages of reading and expects you to have it memorized. Considering quizzes are 70% of his class, it doesn't seem like he understands how to make a helpful quiz. He also won't let you see what questions you missed, so you can't go back.
Dr. Cahill wants his students to succeed, but he will definitely make you work for a good grade. The course is not easy but as long as you read the textbook and watch his lectures, you will be fine. I would recommend attending his office hours if you need help with anything, as this helped me do well especially on the discussion posts.
really great professor who is super passionate about the material. his quizzes and exams can be a bit tough as they are very specific and his quizzes have a 5 minute time line but as long as you put in the effort you should be fine!
Prof. Cahill is very knowledgeable in the area of the class, and the subject material is very interesting. Highly recommend taking this class, as there are some cool activities you get to do. You have to keep up to date with it however, quiz every week with 10 questions and 5 minutes. There's about an hour of lectures to watch each week + 4 exams.
Cahill's passionate about the content and his students. Watch lectures/exam reviews, read the textbook (& chapter reviews/questions), do the study guide, & study hard. Know the content well, quizzes are 10 questions in 5 minutes. Go to office hours for help with discussion posts, they are graded harshly. He gives lots of extra credit which helps!
Unnecessarily hard. I think he wants you to fail his class.
Don't waste your time taking this class. The cognitive sections within AP/IB Psych cover 90% of this material and this course is excessively difficult despite this. Lectures are good, but discussions are graded harshly and quizzes are nit-picky. Cahill is not the nicest and is known among faculty/staff for treating students poorly. Not worth it.
I had no problem getting an A in this class. That being said, it is a summer course that did not include discussion posts. The final grade was based on exams and quizzes only. *That* being said, both are incredibly easy if you study. Some Qs are application based, but honestly 75% of the exams are recall. Just know your stuff.
All of the content you learn in this class applies to you, so it makes everything very interesting and relevant. I highly recommend Dr. Cahill's lectures; he gives plenty of examples and makes the material fun. (Disclaimer: Summer A is a shorter session so the class grade is weighed on exams/quizzes so if you want leeway take it in the fall/spring)
Professor cahill is actually a really great professor. He is more than willing to give feedback after exams and quizzes to help you better your grade. His quizzes and exams can seem difficult but if you read the textbook and watch the lectures you will be fine. The class is more than doable even during summer A.
Took the online course and it was pretty easy to me. You do have to put the work in, but the exams and quizzes were pretty straightforward and easy. I studied a lot though because it was my first semester at UF. We did not have discussions and I know that some people used to complain about them. His lectures are amazing. Highly recommend his class.
Please do not waste your time with this man. I'm not even going to give him the pleasure of calling him a professor. He was not clear with feedback whenever I asked and when I asked to talk about a grade over office hours, he gave a big sigh and said "sure I guess." I could go on, but use your money to take this class with someone else. Avoid him.
Honestly if I could take all my classes with Professor Cahill I would. His quizzes have a short time limit but honestly it helps you a lot to master the materials. I took Cognitive Psych and Legal Psych with him and the grading in his classes is pretty straightforward. He gives a week to study for the exam and it def helps. Would totally recommend
Dr. Cahill had a great sense of humor and made the lectures fun and interactive. I definitely learned a lot and it was one of my favorite psych courses so far!
Professor Cahill is really passionate about his teaching and his lectures were always interesting. However, the class felt like a weeder class for psych students. He has these 10 questions 5-minute quizzes that were hell. The TAs were extremely tough graders. I think if Cahill graded our discussions himself he would have been easier on us :/
It's a tough class, but I enjoyed the content. Dr. Cahill is really passionate about what he teaches, and his lectures were interesting. The class consists of 10 quizzes, 4 discussions, and 4 exams, and they were challenging in their own ways (quizzes are 5 mins, discussions are graded harsh) but he drops one of each. He gives extra credit too
Very mixed feelings. Great lectures and fair exams but genuinely the weirdest Professor ever. Quite rude and condescending when giving feedback but also incredibly likable. Not sure how to feel, but overall, pretty fun class.
Genuinely wants to help you learn and is intimidating at first but patient and kind
Took this class summer A so it was based solely on exams and quizzes, which are 10 questions and 5 mins but fair if you go over content. Very difficult exams, the questions are very applied and vague yet specific at the same time. He is very likeable and has interesting lectures but is condescending during feedback and communication. Mixed feelings
Quizzes are 10 questions and only 5 minutes long, super hard if you don't study a lot. Exams are all applied questions and he expects you to know every minor detail, even if it was only mentioned for 30 seconds over lecture. Seems like he makes the exams as hard as possible. He was no help at all, and sets you up for failure in this course.
Very hard exams and quizzes, which make up almost your whole grade. Gives study guides but they're not any help for exams. Grades harshly and you don't get the opportunity to see what questions you missed on assignments. Class is extremely hard, take it with a different professor if you can. Would not recommend any of his classes.
I completed this class online and it was a waste of time. There are 4, 50 question, exams, although one gets dropped, that makes up 74% of your grade. There are weekly quizzes that are 10 questions in 5 minutes. The lectures, quizzes, and exams aren't even made by Cahill. Horrible class and I wouldn't recommend taking Cahill as a professor
TA's grade everything. It's not even him on the recorded lectures. Gives very little time for quizzes/tests. Doesn't allow you to review what you got wrong unless you go to office hours. Schedules tests on holidays. Ego complex. No curving/No EC. I would rather get my teeth extracted than take him again. 100% do not recommend.
Great lectures but exams are 68% of your grade so its really tough to keep your grade up if you're a nervous test taker or a novice in cognitive psychology Test questions are worded oddly, only 4:50 minutes for 10 question quizzes, tested on material he barely covers/brushes over. Giving this much weight to exams is setting students up for failure
Genuinely the weirdest prof. I've known. Assessments are assigned over holidays, refusal to accept verified medical notes. For such an easy class, he is very demeaning. He presents himself as relatable and "cool" at the beginning of the semester, this is a facade. For the sake of your mental, find an alternative professor.
Literally the worst professor I have ever had! Very few graded assignments. He does drop the lowest quiz and lowest exam. Quizzes have 10 questions with a 5 minute time to complete. Some of the quizzes have questions that are so long you can hardly read the whole question and answer. Take anyone but him!
Maybe if I'd not taken cogpsy online my 1st semester this review would be better. However, I suffered through enough 5min/10q quizzes & horrible exams to tell you do NOT take this class underprepared. Book pdf free online, long and boring. Lectures long, informative. Teacher is difficult and generally unbearable. Content enjoyable with effort. 3/10
To succeed in this class, read the textbook chapters and take good notes. Understand the big picture of concepts and be able to know their definitions and apply them to new scenarios. Utilize the practice questions throughout the chapter as well as the review questions at the end of the chapter, since they are quite similar to quiz/exam questions.
For the sake of your well being and gpa avoid taking the class with him. He drops lowest quiz/exam/discussion post, other than that it is still tough. Nitpicky TAs. Exams are very difficult, worded weirdly. Quizzes 10 Qs in 5 min, worded weirdly. You can't even view what you got wrong unless you go to OH even though nothing is cumulative.
AVOID IF YOU CAN!!! I do not recommend taking Dr. Cahill for ANY course. Outrageously difficult class. Never. Again.
Cahill is a wonderful professor, and he sets clear standards. Watch his lectures and read the book. If you know the material, his 5 min quizzes are very do-able. If you are willing to work hard and take his tips, you will do good. He is funny, has interesting lectures, and is willing to go out of his way to help his students :) 100% recommend!
This class was not amazing but if you're really interested in the topic or need the credit it's very manageable. 5 minutes for 10 question quizzes which are stressful but very doable if you actually read/watch lectures. You get a drop in every category (including exams). Don't BS discussions they're graded harshly. Exams reflect course content
Only 5 minutes for 10 questions which can sometimes have paragraphs as the question. Not allowed to see the correct response after because the prof reuse questions and don't want ppl to find them online. Cares way too much about cheating. Having to go to the TA to see responses. Exam is textbook driven and involves trick questions. Don't recommend.
This class was awful and chaotic. As others have said, the relatable professor thing is a farce. Prepare yourself for constant deadline/scope shifting, poor project instructions, ludicrous grading style (synonyms known from outside of class not acceptable). Office hours typically have ~15 sad and confused students waiting 2 hours in the hallway.
The class material wasn't even as difficult as he made the tests. He made the questions difficult for no reason a times. The discussions, I assume weren't graded by him, were also toughly graded. He does not curve a single exam, so even though I got 70s and 80s I still couldn't reach a B even though I had all 4.5 and 4/5 on all quizzes.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! If you need to, take with a different professor. There is extra credit but this class is NOT worth the stress and anxiety you will have. Simple information in lectures are made WAY to difficult on the exam. Exams which are half written response make it hard to do well. AVOID!!!
I would not recommend Dr. Cahill. He presents as a cool teacher, but is not helpful when you're sick, and will make rude remarks to students. He makes the course and exams way harder than they need to be. Exams are entirely based off of what he says in lectures, but does not post the recordings nor comprehensive Powerpoint slides. Hard to succeed.
great professor, super engaging lectures!! the only thing is that you definitely have to study or at least read the textbook to get a good grade. also he has these 5 minutes ten question quizzes thatt are open note, but usually you dont have enough time to use notes - if you know what your doing they arent too bad though.
Did Cahill make this course easy? Absolutely not. Did he do a great job making engaging lectures and getting me genuinely interested in legal psychology? Absolutely yes. I think this guy's awesome. Study hard - REALLY hard - and you'll do great.
Cahill was not bad, I thought he was going to be worse based off the reviews. The class has work, but it's a 3000 level class so that makes sense. There a weekly quiz, 10 Q in 10 min. There is a discussion post for every other chapter, which isn't hard. Tests aren't bad. He drops your lowest score for every category (tests, quizzes, discussions)
Professor is kinda funny, and makes an effort to include students in the discussion and lectures so he ensures we remember the information better. Definitely recommend taking him if you have an in-person class. Lots of reading and you NEED to study to pass the class, but he provides extra credit opportunities and he drops lowest quiz and exam grade
This class is very hard and you need to study and read the textbook if you want to pass, but Dr. Cahill is awesome and is very engaging and funny in his lectures, and he is a very nice guy and really cares about the class and his students.
Conflicted about this class. On one hand, I think the material was very interesting and Cahill does a good job of presenting it in the lectures and being available for office hours. But if you need a good GPA, don't take this class. Exams are HARD. I'm an A student and barely got a B. The average grade in this class before the final was an 83%.
Great professor. Easy to navigate course. Very passionate. 10/10 would most definitely take again! 4 proctored exams through honorlock, drops the lowest score.
I loved this professor. His lectures were engaging and very helpful. I also thought the textbook was interesting and connected to course material. Exams were really the only thing we were graded on, and they were pretty difficult. Everything came from the textbook and his lectures, but the information is complicated. Be prepared to study!
Bleh. Your standard boring online psych class. He doesn't write a single piece of content for his courses (lectures aren't even him) yet has an attitude with students. I've taken a couple classes with him and they're pretty easy if you stay on top of it but if you need help or an extension, expect a condescending email response and no real help.
Overall grade determined largely on exam scores (about 80%). Clear lectures but had a tendency to be absent sometimes (about 4-5 times in summer b.) Assignments were fine but some questions were unclear. Was very helpful in office hours, would stay beyond his scheduled hours to assist you if needed.
This course contains some assignments, several grades for a research paper with a group, and exams. I struggled most with the paper for the group. The TAs graded each submission and it felt like they were purposefully being nit-picky, and would dock points off for things that weren't in the rubric which was frustrating.
Focus on the textbook. Some answers will be from the textbook verbatim but it'll be the most obscure thing possible. His lectures are important. The exams are hard but also I took this class freshman year and had no clue how to study. He def cares that you do well, but won't offer EC. Discussions are graded so harshly, write loads
Do NOT take him for lab methods! Worst class I've taken. Lacks organization, clear grading criteria, assignment intructions and communication. 3 Exams, big research project and couple hws. You rlly cant afford to make mistakes. Contradicted himself constantly when teaching, was especially misleading in how we should prepare for the last exam.
180 points go towards your research paper, and you pick your group to write the paper with on the first day of class. He has belittled students in front of the class and if you want to talk to him during office hours, be prepared to wait. His exams are extremely difficult, yet he will blame the entire class for doing poorly instead of himself.
Dr. Cahill is an amazing professor. He cares about his students and acknowledges hard work. His lectures are very entertaining, and he does a lot of demonstrations to help us understand the concepts. There are 4 exams, and he drops the lowest grade. I would definitely recommend taking cognitive psychology with Dr. Cahill.
Be prepared to study heavy in this class, these exams humble you. I studied day n night for these exams and it is basically luck in the end. The discussions board are graded strictly so even if you wrote the best paragraph ever, you can still get a lower grade. Nice professor but not a course of easy A. Don't take If you want to save your GPA.
The lectures are somewhat interesting. The discussion posts are beyond picky- sometimes they will say "Great work on this part!!" then take two points off of it- CRYING. Exams are redundant on questions but so hard for no reason- the study guide is not even helpful. no practice work at all even tho he tells us practice is a great way to learn.
AVOID Tests are extremely hard, heavily weighted w/ so much material to cover Extremely vague in rubrics, will fail your assignments if you didn't do exactly what he was looking for, no matter how much work you put in it, he doesn't care Expects you to be an expert even though learning Implies youre a bad student if you don't have an A in his class
He is awesome, he makes tons of jokes, and is very caring. His class consists of watching lectures and taking notes, reading textbook, and answering discussions and quizzes. He has 4 exams but drops the lowest exam score at the end of the semester. I am about to delivery my baby and he was very accommodating to my condition. Loved this class. 10/10
Awesome teacher very accommodating and caring of his students. Easy to pass the class if you put in the work of studying and taking good notes.
I've seen a lot of bad reviews for this prof so I was nervous but he was great. His lectures were interesting and his grading was fair. The exams didn't blindside me at all because he taught everything on it. He seems to care about his students. If you're really interesting in psych, this class should be relatively easy and interesting!
I took Cognitive psych but couldn't find the code above. He is very smart and knowledgeable about the material. His lectures are really good and informative. His test are sort of difficult but you can figure them out. Some of the assignments were fun, like the discussions. Reachable outside of class.
Professor Cahill keeps the class engaging with his humor. The coursework is manageable - just focus on the textbook and lectures. Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for exam prep.
The content of the class was great. I learned a lot. I would take the class again with a different professor. I ended up dropping the class right nov 22 so I didn't have a fail. I had fine grades for the whole class except the exams (which are worth 69% of grade). For the questions you have to choose the best answer out of 4 correct answers. 2/10
Dr. Cahill is a great professor! The class is a bit difficult but if you stay on top of the material, you should be fine. The recorded lectures are sometimes long but he provides really detailed info that clarifies concepts. He also tries to keep his students engaged by including interactive games/videos in his lectures which is nice.
Attendance only mandatory on lab days and even then you can miss one or two and be okay. Just communicate with your group. The class is based around a group paper with very clear instructions and great communication from the professor and TAs. 3 exams non cumulative with open ended and multiple choice sections. Do the work, and ask good questions.
Cahill was pretty funny in lectures and provided great examples for concepts and still kept it like an IRL psych class with interactive Qs and activities. Tests were always fair and not as detailed as the book, but reading the book is the only way you can succeed with details of this class! Study guide are provided but make your own, I liked Anki!
This is specifically for the Graduate TAs(I love Cahill this is nothing against him). They were absolutely horrible grading discussions. Criteria was unclear. I would get points removed and got feedback like "I wish you said XYZ". I know this is psych but I don't read minds. Discussions can take away your A, be careful with that!
Dr. Cahill is so sweet and he is very engaging, but the tests for this class are ridiculous. If you think you can just watch the lectures and not read the book, you're so wrong. The questions are worded vaguely and there are 2+ correct answers. There are things he never addresses and somehow they're on the exam which is like 70% of your grade.
Cahill hosts hours and offers help but exams were terrible and he was not fair at all.
Really unfair grader.
The tests are manageable as long as you study really well- watch the lectures and read the textbook. The assignments, however, are very unfair. Every single assignment has unclear rubrics. Grades are based on subjective assessments. There is a lack of uniformity among TAs for grading. For two assignments we used chatbots that are faulty/erroneous.
Majority of success comes from engaging with the textbook. You must ACTIVELY process the material over spaced intervals. (so none of that last minute cramming! stay consistent) for discussions: being thorough = how you get your points. Professor is kind. class is a lot less intimidating than many think if you put in the effort.
I would highly recommend taking this online class, just make sure to watch lectures and complete the readings! Dr. Cahill is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches, so do not be afraid to ask questions to him or his TA's. You cannot use any outside materials on exams, but his study guides and materials help prepare you well!
Unless you have to take his class, I would avoid it. Ignore what other reviews say, this professor is on a power trip. REALLY not leinient in any way, even with good reason. Uses lectures that are years old, and expects perfection as if he has to put any effort into teaching an online class. Would not recommend personally.
Dr. Cahill is passionate about cognitive psychology; however, this does not translate to being a good professor. His exams are a majority of your grade, and are horribly worded (multiple choice and two of them could be right, one is just better). Reaching the end, and I currently have an A in this class, but it hinges on how I do on the final exam.
so i can't speak much on the profs ability because he had various personal hurdles that took him away from class. however the TAs? TAs are on a power trip and incredibly hard to please. the rubrics are often misconstrued so the entire class doesn't understand. the exams? oh my god. sooo ambiguous. AND they stay locked so you can't improve.
Cahill is kind and funny, and you can see how passionate he is about his field in his teaching. While he is great, the class is difficult, assignments are graded harshly, and you need to study a lot for exams. To be honest, I would not recommend taking this if you're just pre-law, only if you're VERY interested in legal psych or a psych major.
Professor Cahill seems like a genuine guy, but his grading is very harsh for an elective. The exams are doable if you apply yourself, but the three assignments throughout the semester are graded very strictly, and the directions are hardly clear. This class did have some interesting lessons, but the rest is a snooze. Good luck!
Although Cahill is passionate and kind, the class is very challenging. Material is interesting, but the assignments are confusing, grading is harsh, and exams are stressful. Getting an A in this class is possible, but very rare, as average grades are in the 70s and 80s on every assignment/exam. Would not take unless a pre-law psychology student.
I've never rated my professor before but i had to hop and here and rate professor Cahill. He is amazing! As a Psychology major, I appreciated his enthusiasm and clarity. Get ready to study but his lectures are informative and helpful.
This class almost took me out fr, but he was kind and responded to emails asap, and the lectures were funny. But there is a lot of reading and most of it is not on quizzes, so it was stressful to know what's on the exams or not. Would take it again in a longer semester; my classmates carried me fr. Collaborate with your peers bro, TRUST.
I am grateful for Dr. Cahill's teaching and the impact his course has had on my learning experience. His lectures were consistently engaging, thought-provoking, and well-structured, making even the most complex material accessible and interesting. Dr. Cahill has a unique ability to spark curiosity and encourage active participation.
Cahill is caring I suppose but is often quite sarcastic and blunt during office hours but more welcoming over email. Attending office hours is great if he understands and doesn't go off on a tangent. Grades and exams are fair. Take advantage of extra credit. Trying to build a relationship with him doesn't matter if he just doesn't like you.
Unnecessarily difficult for an introductory class. 3 non-cumulative exams, 1 research paper. Instructions contradictory and unclear for most assignments. Prepare to figure out the writing and the statistical data by yourself. No communication between prof and TAs. Shout out to Eli (only help there). Avg grade: not an A -prof
His tests have very oddly worded questions. I personally struggled with that, especially since his online Cognitive Psychology class is so test heavy, making up about 70% of the total grade. He's very good with office hours and a passionate lecturer so he's very helpful if you have questions. Not lenient with grading though.
Cahill is a super sweet guy, but is definitely more cordial over email/Canvas vs. when you see him in person. His class is really tough in that his exams will ruin your grade if you bomb one of them. Open ended questions are so vague, and multiple choice can have multiple arguable answers. Take advantage of any extra credit. Not an easy A with him.
Although online, the lectures were interactive and fun to watch. Dr. Cahill is really funny, responsive to students, and encouraging! Office hours are super helpful and fascinating. His exams are tough, but reading the textbook and really understanding the content will take you far. Overall, a very interesting class and helpful professor.
The lectures are clear and align with exam content, with several extra credit opportunities. Exams are difficult due to the 50 minute time limit, so attending exam reviews is very important. Grading for the open-ended questions can be unclear, but an A is possible with effort. The group research paper is time consuming, so choose a committed group.
