Brian is an excellent instructor. His lectures are easy to understand nad his tests are fair. He is always available for questions and help with material you don't understand and you can tell he wants his students to succeed.
Mr. Carlson takes the time to help you understand the material better and really cares about student performance. However, if you do not like sarcastic and condescending remarks- do not take his lab.
Good teacher...has pop quizzes though. It keeps you on your toes. I would take him if you have a chance. If you need any help, he will help you until you get the stuff.
Dr. Carlson is one of the best instructors I have had at NHCC. He is clear and thorough. He gives enough relevant homework to allow a student to master the material. The OWL system he uses allows instant feedback and is tremendously helpful. The key to doing well in this course is to do ALL the available homework.
He's a really nice teacher. His lectures are clear and thorough. He has pop quizzes every week, but if you do your homework (OWL) ahead of time, you'll do just fine. His tests aren't too bad, but just make sure you study.
Carlson is an excellent teacher. He is extremley helpful, and is a genuinely nice and funny guy. I really enjoyed class with him. Be prepared to work. It's a lot of algebra, and most people have to practice ALOT to do average. I spent at least an hour a day on chem, but it payed off. I've never studied so hard for an A, but it was well worth it.
If you want to challenge yourself and don't want to have easy A, take him :)
he is suck!!! take another instructor!! BELIEVE ME!!
It's very easy class if you take it twice. He expect you to know everything as he does :-( and never answer your question " Look at your book" that's what he said. Even working so hard on the homework, study group, and do all example in the book, you still get a bad score in the exam. VERY HARD EXAM AND EVEN QUIZ. Don't believe what he told you!!!!
He is the worst teacher I've ever had at NHCC. HE is never willing to help you. And he makes test really hard. VERY BAD TEACHER. Dont ever take him.
By Far the most helpful teacher that I have ever had in the whole history of school. He even made extra time to help me during non-office hours. I suffered in his class because I did not completley meet the prequisets and I naturally am bad at math + concepts (he helped me get through). This teacher is graduate school qualified material. TAKE!!!
If you come to lab a second late he will subtract a point of your lab .
He will break his back over helping you and making sure you get it. He is willing to give up even more than just office hours to explain things. He isn't easy because chemistry isn't easy, yet he is a good teacher that I would recommend.
Brian is one of the best professors I have ever had. His lectures are very clear and thorough. If you have any trouble understanding a question, concept, or material, he will do whatever he can to explain it either in class or during office hours. This class is for people who are willing to work hard and who want to learn.
This teacher is very very unpredictable in his attitude. He is on and off, swings in mood .If I knew what I knownow, I wouln't have taken his class.I never regreted in taking classes at NHCC untill I step into his class.I don't recommend anybody to take his class. If you need easy D go for it.
worst teacher! only trying to be good to you at the end of the semester. even high school teacher is better than he is because he should recognize that he teaches at college not at YALE. TOUGH TEST!!!!
It will be a hard class if you donot have prereqs. He is a good teacher, keeps you on your toes and knows his subject. Not an easy A but extremely fair chance to get an A. Expect to work in this class!
this is one of the worst teachers at the science department at nhcc. His test are impossible and he is never willing to help you. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!
I have never met a teacher like him. He test are very hard, and out of the content. He just expect us to know things that he didn't teach.I you try to express youself he start picking on you.If i would have known i would have never taken him. I suggest to anyone that wants to take him, to think twice before taking him.
His classes are hard. I had all C's in my exam and even had D in my final but my final grade was an B. He is OK!I guess. Don't worry about the hard exam. Try your best and you will be fine in his classes :-) HANG ON THERE!
I found this teacher unreasonably tough. I am good at math and chemistry and worked at least twice as hard at his class as I did at others and still didn't get the grade I was trying for. I would not recomend him to anyone unless they are certain they're up for an incredible challange.
Brian's a good professor. He presents the material in a clear manner. The subject is a difficult one and I think many students put that on the instructor. If you come prepared-read the chapter in advance, work out the problems in the book and come with questions, memorize what is expected to memorize, it will help you a lot.
like his lecture, but hated his multiples test.
Brian is not Hard, Chemistry is! Brian takes time to focus on you when you see him for office hours, and for pre-med students, he's de best resource esp. for letters of recommendations and general advice. Above all, he's a Chemisty Guru. Also, his OWL rocks!!
Thanks Carlson! Because of you, I changed my major from Nursing or pre-pharmacist to any major without Chem and have an instructor like you. Hot girls will pass his class, though!
this class is ridiculous. His test have nothing to do with his lectures, he expects you to know everything. I am an honor student and get good grades. I'm good at math and science but this class almost has no point. I dont feel like I have learned anything. I study like crazy to get a grade I could get if I didn't. Lets hope in the end it works
I took intro to chem and chem 1 and i LOVED chemistry receiving an A in intro and an A+ with 102% in Chem 1 and now I hate it. He ruined Chemistry for me.
People who say he's good is in Chem 1. When you take Chemistry 2 its a different story. Dont waste you time or money with that teacher. You will be taking it again because most likely you if you pass it's a C or you won't pass at all. These people are LOONEY if they think hes a good teacher!
BC is a great teacher! He really cares about his students if you care about the class. He is extremely helpful when visiting his office. The class is difficult and requires A LOT of work on the students part. If your ready to work your butt off I recomend this class.. otherwise do not because you will end up dropping it.
HORRIBLE TEACHER. MY GPA IS ABOVE 4.0 AND I MANAGED TO NOT LEARN A SINGLE THING FROM CARLSON. NOT HELPFUL AT ALL.
I wish I knew about this website before taking the class with him. Moody, boring, doesnt take the time to EXPLAIN problems...thanks to him my GPA will go from 4.0 to very low. I wasted my money, my time and my patience with this guy. I've heard the guy is a genius in Chemistry, but it doesn't matter at all if he can't teach. REALLY. BAD. TEACHER.
Hope you like powerpoint
Dr. Carlson was very helpful. He definitely knows his chemistry! I think he looks great in his navy jacket and khakis.
The student who had a 4.0, and learned nothing from Carlson is obviously an idiot who got all A's in easier courses. Study hard and don't get behind, ASK and he will help you, guide you in the right direction. A great instructor does not hold your hand, this is college, not highschool. Chem is tough, so be prepared! BEST MOST KNOWLEDGABLE PROF
take another teacher...ull fail this class!
Great teacher! Charismatic, patient, takes extra time to explain material, but doesn't baby you. Got personality which is always a plus. Definitely not the class I would fall asleep in. Would definitely recommend this guy to anyone, his knowledge of chemistry is pretty impressive.
Very thorough, clear lectures. Dr. Carlson isn't the sort to baby anyone, but he makes it abundantly clear that he's available if you need help (the trick is to actually take him up on it; he rarely bites). Invest the time, do the work, and pay attention to the lectures and there's no reason not to do well in this course.
Pretty good teacher. Makes it relatively easy to understand chemestry. I recomend him.
Very organized in lecture, on point, doesn't fall behind, BUT, if you ask him a question in his office, he has a reputation (I found to be true) that he treats you like you're an idiot. Keep your head low and ask questions in front of others to avoid this. Tends to assume you're stupid/lazy rather than that he's teaching at a level a tad too high
All this boohooing abt GPA being wrecked. Carlson expects you to study like a college student. If YOU have same hopes - you will be fine! Seek HIM out for extra studying. He will work with you until you get it - but you have to want it THAT IS LIFE (so quit cryin'!)
well there was alot of bad talk before i took him but he is a great teacher. Go to class bring your notes write in your notes STUDY YOUR NOTES, prepare like there will be a quize, be ON TIME. Write sig figs in lab go to lab do your lab answer questions, get extra credit and seek help when needed if you are lazy you will fail =D
Good looking dude.Plus, he's my dad!
I loved BC! He genuinely cares about his students and is passionate about Chemistry. I also found him pretty funny because he's such a total science nerd! :)
he's to cool for school
Dr. Carlson is extreamly helpfull. You must be in class because he drops quisses every once in a while. BE ON TIME. SOME MEMORISATION.I learned so much in his class. Make sure you study and do your homework because he expects alot from his students. Overall Great proffesor he will meake sure you know the material like "second nature"
Good teacher. I know this might be tough for the lazy people out there who take blowoff classes, but he actually makes you work for your grade. Welcome to the real world.
Yes, Carlson is difficult, BUT he expects you to study. Chem 1 and 2 are mandatory for many difficult majors. You need to know this stuff. You'll get an A if you put the time in and ask questions. Don't expect to be coddled. You are in college act like it.
Great PHe absolutelyrofessor in my opinion. A little old school in his teaching style but highly respectful of his students and very fun. He goes out of his way to make sure you know the material and is very, very accessible. Would certainly recommend him.
Not helpful. Tells you what you should know without actually explaining the material. Its like taking an online chem course. The learning is all on your own.
Carlson is a great teacher. He explains things thoroughly and gives valuable examples. His tests are straightforward; there are never any surprise or trick questions. He is more than willing to help you. Grading is fair. This subject does require a lot of work, so be prepared!
Prof Carlson really wants you to do well in his class, and tries to make sure you have a thorough understanding of the material in lecture. Nevertheless, this class is incredibly tough as it is, and you have to put a ton of work in on your own. DO PRACTICE PROBLEMS. It's very difficult to get an A on his tests; there is no room for error.
Brian is great!! He does lecture from power point, but he makes it effective by working out problems in class. Be prepared to participate!! He calls on students evenly to answer parts of problems. The workbook for this class is a great resource, USE IT, he makes you work for your grade. I would definitely take him for O chem if he taught it.
Made me love chemistry... Enough said. His explanation is great, doesn't give a lot of homework. love to make exams easy by clarifying what is the important materials. Exams are multiple choices. Quizzes are sudden but fairly easy. His notes are enough to pass the course without reading the textbook ( In my case at least )
VERY AMAZING TEACHER, VERY HOT
He was overall a good professor. He cares about his students and wants them to be successful. It is a challenging class and you have to work hard to do well. If you ask for help he is very willing to help you.
Homework is easy and gives you easy points. Lots of in class quizzes, but notes were allowed to be used. Tests are very easy, all multiple choice. Teacher is very nice and approachable. Prelab quiz before every lab, but questions are taken right from the lab report, SO DO THE PRELAB.
Don't let the low EASINESS score scare you from taking his class. If you read the textbook and do the practice problems diligently then you should be fine. His lectures can be long and boring in my opinion because I took Chemistry back in highschool. He spends a lot of time working on practice problems and they are used for the tests and final.
He expects a lot out of the students. He evenly calls on each student to answer questions and expects you to know the answer. As long as you keep up and pay attention you will do well. The tests get increasingly harder as you go. He quizes on concepts before he lectures about them which is hard and sometimes frustrating. Do workbook problems.
He has 3 test 24 questions all multiple choice. His final is also multiple choice. He has 7 pop quizzes. Do the Homework because it will help u a lot.
He knows Chemistry but doesn't know how to teach it. His tests had things that he did not even mention once in class or did on the online homework. Thanks to other resources I was able to learn a few things that he made even more confusing in lec. His tests are impossible also! I wouldn't recommend him unless you have no choice.
Great teacher lets you know what is needed to be taken out of the class. be aware of pop quizzes, read ahead complete homework on time and ask questions and see tutor if struggling. great class.
Make sure you utilize his office hours, the Math Resource Center (Dale), or peer tutoring; this class is not a walk in the park, if you choose to not study/ get help you will not receive the grade you want. Overall fairly difficult course if you put in minimal effort, easy if you study your butt off, and hard if you miss class often.
This course may be a little difficult for students who have not taken Introduction to Chemistry, or high school chemistry, he does a good job explaining the material thoroughly. His lectures are not mandatory, however do not take this for granted, on rare occasions he will hand out quizzes unannounced, or extra credit quizzes.
Carlson likes to give out quizzes at least 7, but will normally take 5 for credit. questions sometimes come out of the workbook verbatim. tests multiple choice. do workbook and listens to what he tells you and you will be fine. online homework, uses flashcards to call on people until he knows names, can be blunt, would take again
I had already taken high school chem, so this course was easy for me. However, if you do not have previous knowledge, I wouldn't recommend taking 1061 with Brian right away. He moves quick, and expects you to learn from the online HW rather than from him. He also can sound condescending when answering questions. Not a class for slow learners.
Dr. Carlson has a confusing, fast paced lecture. I found it really hard to keep up. He spends a ton of time on proving equations (established for decades and used in the book), no idea why. The notes are really hard to follow, have to buy an online component for homework. Tests take forever. If you go to tests early, he usually lets you start early
He has notecards with your name on it. Be prepared to get called out in class, even if you don't know the answer.
Dr. Carlson is easily the best science teacher I've ever had. The tests are difficult but if you pay attention to lectures and do your best you'll definitely have fun in his class. If you're looking for a brilliant teacher with fantastic lectures you should take your classes with him!
He is great at helping outside of class. Always willing to meet one on one and answers emails fast.
This class in general is pretty difficult, but Dr. Carlson is a fantastic teacher. He gives great lectures and uses analogies that make conceptual concepts easy to understand. However, he expects a lot from his students too. There is almost nightly homework due online, but it can be pretty easy to complete.
Awesome guy. Fair but a tough, which means you learn a lot and retain it. Responds immediately to emails, knows what he's talking about and genuinely seems interested in your success and learning.
Brian is the best Chemistry teacher I have ever had.
Subjective tests- meaningless factoids, covers minute details, rather than topics covered in depth. He's a major downer. 0/10 would not recommend.
The more science classes I take, the more I miss Mr. Carlson's class. He is by far the best science teacher out there, so far as my experience goes. He always answers questions, lectures are interesting and he knows his stuff!
This class is hard but manageable. Dr Carlson truly knows how to explain the material but it is difficult for someone like me. Im so glad I took his advice and did all my homework assignment and got all my lab points in. Theres homework due every night, but they are useful. Take good notes for the quizzes. I actually miss the class!
Brian Carlson is a very nice and caring professor. He cares a lot about his students. His lectures are very beneficial. His tests are all from his lecture, but they are sometimes worded in a tricky way, so watch out for that, and make sure to understand the question. If you do not understand the question during the test, don't be afraid to ask!
Brian was my first chemistry teacher since high school and I didn't have a good experience. I had homework due every day before class, there almost no breaks. During the lecture, he would make students feel stupid if they didn't know the answer and I experienced this first hand. Also, I had no idea what my grade was until after the class ended.
Terrible professor. Boring lectures and I learned NOTHING from them. I had no idea what was going on in class even though I paid attention. Calls on students randomly. You have to teach yourself the material by doing the MindTap homework that is due every single night. Chem is already hard, but Brian made it way harder.
He is a good professor and packs a lot of information into his lectures. However, I wouldn't recommend this class if you haven't taken high school chemistry or if you prefer professors who make personal connection. He can be condescending when answering questions and he is not very lenient on the curriculum.
(Covid online student) He seemed a bit sassy when I asked him questions through email. The first test was easy but then got significantly harder from there. A lot of learning was through the online homework and despite reading everything and taking notes there were still concepts I didn't understand. he doesn't seem to help students who struggle.
He answers questions with a condescending voice & makes you feel stupid in front of the whole class. He doesnt seem to care to help students who are struggling especially in the midst of a global pandemic. Tests are 10x harder than the homework, which is due every night. No extra credits. Very dissatisfied.
The only reason everyone takes him is because hes the only professor for lecture. Take this class somewhere else. Nhcc do better at hiring professors who can teach. Good luck if you end up taking his class. Youll need it.
took his chem 1 class & it was horrific. terrible teaching style. encourages you to ask questions, & when you do, makes you feel dumb. also makes you feel bad about yourself by saying everything is straightforward and easy all the time when 99% of us do not understand the hard material. i have never felt dumber in my life. please do not take.
Brian is very condescending and his teaching style makes a lot of his students anxious. For example, he will randomly call on students to answer questions during lecture and if they do not answer quickly or correctly, he gets frustrated. He is not a patient guy. He makes this class more difficult than it has to be.
He says he cares about his students, but does not act like it. Many of us struggled during the COVID-19 pandemic when we transitioned to online classes, but he did not seem to care whatsoever. The first test was incredibly easy, but it just got next to impossible from there.
knows his stuff, just doesnt know how to teach it. like past reviews said, brian makes u feel incredibly dumb, like when u dont understand any concepts bc he failed to effectively teach them, yet still says theyre very easy & straightforward. ¿maybe thats bc hes been teaching it for 25+ years? no one ever understood a thing.
When he whips out the blue flash cards with ur names on them it game over. Ur left embarrassed and sad and hopeless after every class cause u got the question wrong in front of the entire class cause Brian could not teach. Brian, pls discontinue the cold calling and start teaching effectively
I did this course online and I am not a fan of his teaching style, not sure if this has to do with the change from in person to online. Exams are random with content from multiple chapters. Instead of in person lectures, we were given videos to watch, which did not give the same effectiveness as if he were to do the lectures.
The TikTok sound Run by AWOLNATION perfectly describes what one must do when one considers registering for his classes. Run. Run as fast and far away as you can from Brian s classes.
DONT TAKE HIM ! Only zooms once a week for 1 hr. Not mandatory, but it's the only way you have a chance to actually learn. Hw EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. even sat&sun. His tests are all over & harder than the mindtap work. He doesn't care to actually teach and instead leaves links to other professors lectures or the mindtap videos. A tests average was D 64
Let me guess, you came here to see if you should take him. Well don't if you actually want to do well. If you don't care about learning the material, go ahead. He's just not the move, and if you take him and disregard the reviews you will regret it like I did. Good luck and make the right choice with who you want as your professor.
I'm not sure if this is due to the transition to distance learning, but all we did was learn the material ourselves through the HW in which there is HW due every single day. There are "lecture" videos but they are simply taken from other people. The first exam is really easy but it's really hard afterwards, the HW material barely shows up after.
This guy was a real piece of work. From the onset, he was condescending and almost insulting when I asked for help. His lectures were bad and he refused to record them. I learned more from the lab teacher than Carlson. The tests were pretty much the only thing your grade was based off, and they were incredibly difficult, more so than calculus.
Took this class as a PSEO student with no prior knowledge in chemistry. That was a mistake. He assigns a lot of homework, & grades heavily. I do not recommend this professor, especially for students with no prior knowledge on the subject, as he expects students to learn from homework and lecture videos that are not as effective as normal lectures.
just no
How does he have any good reviews? He probably wrote them all himself. No matter how good you think you are at chemistry, you will struggle because this man makes everything a billion times more difficult for no reason. Whatever you do, do not take any of his classes. Trust me.
He cannot teach. Listen to the reviews. Trust me.
If you got an A in HS chemistry, you'll probably be okay. He doesn't explain things very well, makes asking questions hella awkward, and so you'll either have to be able to totally ignore his super condescending tone or teach yourself/get constant tutoring.
I thought BC was a great teacher, as long as you do the work. He gives clear guidance as to what will be on his tests, and they are very fair. Watch his videos/lectures - do the study guides, homework, extra assignments, and lab experiments & you'll do just fine. BC knows his stuff, and I learned a lot from him.
Do not take this course in the summer. Because it is 6 weeks shorter than a usual semester, the units are super condensed. Had homework due nearly everyday, weekends included :/ Highly recommend reviewing old chem notes from highschool, or taking an intro course first!
If you want to pass and understand the material DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM. He assign tens of homework weekly throw the online book. you spend hours doing the homework. then the exam is nothing like what you did in the homework. because he put the exam but not the homework it is assigned with the book and Bothe are 2 different world. JUST NO!!
Hes everything a professor shouldnt be. He doesnt care about his students. He doesnt know how to teach. Hes not helpful. He makes you feel dumb if you dont understand something. All around horrible. The reviews dont lie. Take this class with someone else.
Tests were online for this class with no partial credit available. I bombed majority of the tests that were given even though I understood the materials. He's not very helpful when you ask him questions either. He responds to emails within 24 hours though, which is probably the only thing I liked about him.
I have had my fair share of bad professors, but he really takes the cake. Maybe his teaching style (if you can even call it that) was not for me. However, he was so condescending whenever asked a question and really makes you feel like the dumbest person on earth. And no, I am not exaggerating or revengeful. Just warning potential victims.
Don't take Prof Carlson. Do yourself a favor and do whatever you can to avoid this professor. Definitely the worst professor on the NHCC campus. Man is Krampus incarnate. Doesn't care about students. Loves to fail people and blame you for it.
Professor Carlson is an average teacher. I think he teaches more like a university professor which makes this class challenging, but not impossible. 4 exams total, one comprehensive final. Lowest exam score can be replaced with final exam score, but read syllabus for details about it. Make friends and get tutored. HW everyday.
Maybe it's because I took AP chem in HS, but his class really wasn't that bad. He doesn't have the nicest personality but if you pay attention in class and take notes, everything should be straightforward. It can get irritating asking him for help tho. As for the online homework, he usually tells you what will and won't be on the exams.
Taking his class is hard I have to admit! But take my advice as long as you study and keep up with the chapters every day you will do great. Make sure you do well in labs and online assignments. Do countless practice problems and don't be afraid to reach out for help. He is very understanding and is happy to help his students pass.
NO NO NO NO NO.
I really enjoyed Professor Carlsons lectures, he had sheets that went along with his PowerPoint so you could follow along. The homework was on mind tap which was pretty hefty, but most of the stuff on the homework was completely different from what was on the test or in the lectures. There are 4 tests and 1 final, graded on those, HW, and labs.
Bullies and humiliates students. Provides printable notes that do not match up with his lectures. Puts questions on the tests that he does not cover in lecture. Assigns an incredible amount of homework. NO review topics are suggested until a couple days before a test and often will include material that was NOT suggested to review. DO NOT TAKE!!
attend the lectures!! many people think he's mean because the subject is hard. hes a very nice guy if you take the time to actually talk to him. use the textbook's test center to get better at the problems and sign up for chemFoundations!!! it'll help in passing the exams. wish he was teaching genchem2
If you do 100% of your homework on MindTap, you will do fine on the tests. Every single test question was easier than the homework. Go to lecture to get an intro to the topic, go home and try the homework, if you are struggling with the homework, there are many Youtube videos that explain all of these topics very well.
If you want to succeed, get ahead MindTap assignments (6-25 short assignments each week) and attend lecture. Your grade is based off your scores on the 4 tests and one final exam , it's important to study hard for them. Lecture handout sometimes is helpful for notes in class but not always. Was dreadful IMO but if you can study good you'll make it.
Mr Carlson is an overall good teacher but his lectures are so fast and hard to understand. His lectures are very funny though. Make sure you use resources such as Dale in the Math Center and Chem Foundations. Make sure to stay ahead on the homework because it could save you like it saved me.
Although I am trying to remove personal bias from my review, I found this professor to be particularly difficult to work with. He failed to give clear instruction and expectations for labs, and his feedback was terse and often superfluous. He was difficult to communicate with, his office hours often changed and he was very difficult to contact.
Overall a great prof, I had him for the lab portion of chem1005. He makes his expectations of the class clear from the start, which may come off as terse. Complete the pre Lab BEFORE class, or he will take off points. Follow directions carefully and ASK CLARIFYING QUESTIONS. Nice if you get to know him, good sense of humor. Stereotypical old dude.
Overall CHEM 1062 is a "weed-out" class so it wasn't smooth sailing. The lecture notes were all from packets of paper covering each chapter. He speaks pretty fast during lectures, but if you miss anything he posts lecture videos that I had up next to me while he was teaching. Carlson is also very accommodating for accommodations.
The class is only hard if you don't reach out to the Professor. Once I reached out, I found him to be helpful, kind, and encouraging. -Do Mindtap in that week every week, once u fall behind it's hard to catch up last minute all the time -Chem foundations uhh go to it He cracks jokes in class but lecture can be hard to follow along so watch vids
He took time and helped with lab after something went wrong. I also talked to him about coins.
CHEM1061 can be challenging, but Professor Carlson's lectures are worth attending. The course has a lot of homework, so using resources like unstuck study and the textbook's test center helps. Stay on top of it and you'll do well.
Professor Carlson was great. His class was hard. The class was very test heavy but he is a fair grader. Each exam was HARD but in reality you just need to put in more hours on studying than you think.
Great professor! Carlson is helpful, responsive, and provides extra lecture materials online. Stay on top of MindTap homework, as it's hard to catch up. Lectures move quickly, and the class is challenging. Highly recommend taking ChemFoundations if possible.
I liked Dr. Carlson as he always managed to explain chemistry concepts that had made no sense in lecture perfectly in a fraction of the time Professor Paulus could. Messing up too many things can tank one lab grade quickly, but the three lowest grades get taken off anyway. He can be condescending at times, but he's always helpful.
This course was so difficult for being the beginning of the chemistry courses. If you've never taken chemistry before I would not recommend this. He's also pretty mean at times, especially if you get something wrong in class. I would take chemistry anywhere else if it meant he wasn't the professor. DO NOT RECCOMEND.
Would not recommend to take if you are a slow learner, lecture is incredibly fast paced. He seems to care for students but his teaching style did not align with mine, he tends to over explain on concepts which confuses you more. Does not post lecture slides but he posts the lecture notes.
Carlson's lectures felt like basic information and could get really confusing; MindTap and ChemFoundations helped me pick up the slack on understanding the material and are the main reasons I passed the class. Labs were fairly easy to lose points on. Class isn't for the weak, especially if math isn't your strong suit.
This was not an easy class, but Dr. Carlson was clear in what he expected of students and I felt his tests were aligned with learned material. Do not get behind in MindTap- it is very easy to ace the online section if you do the material (he offers lots of extra credit and scales down the point system). Overall, work hard and you will do well.
This course was a big fat no for me. I hated Carlson so much. When learning chemistry for the first time it can be hard to catch on and he won't wait for you or help you. Calls on random people in class. If he wants you to make a get to know you card the first day of lecture don't do it because that will be drawn and you will get called on.
