His test and quizes are all multiple choice. Even the final is all multiple choice. He gives you more time than most to read the chapters and you watch 10 movies during th course of the semester. Pretty easy, but you do have to put in some study time or you will fail.
Professor Clardy is a good teacher. He made a very boring subject somewhat interesting. Alot of reading material, but thats to be expected for Civ, weekly quizes, 3 tests per semister, and 1 reflection paper over a book you have to read. A good teacher and I plan to take him again for Civ 102.
He is an awesome teacher. Offers plenty of extra credit. Makes what he expects from you VERY clear. Lectures are very interesting. Doesn't waste time over painstaking deatils, gets to the point. Also likes to incluse other facts aobut hte subect that you might find interesting, would make things easier to understand
He is very interesting to listen to when he is teaching but he goes on these extended tangents that have nothing to do with what you are studying. His quizes are hard because he quizes you on current events and info from the book. He does not lecture from the book but his test are based on the information in the book.
This is the first rating I have ever given so poorly. Clardy was discriminatory and unfair and grossly so. I have never experienced such a horrible teacher who would do the things he does. I would not recommend him to anyone.
All I can say is that I regret every day for taking this class. He is the most boring teacher I have ever had. Everything about him is boring. If you do take him buy a coke or coffee before going to class.
Wow! This teacher is bad... I don't know how some of these guys are allowed to teach.
if civ is your thing and you love Oxford U. you'll love this guy, honestly he's very nice but...i hated the class, had to drop it because there was no way i was going pass, quizzes and tests are extremely difficult, he doesn't lecture in a way that is easy to take notes, READ THE BOOK!
He pretty much sucks. Don't expect any help from him! Oh and he likes to hear himself talk.
Dr Clardy is a great professor. He cares about what his students learn and he is fair. Only improvements are on his organizational skills...he often forgets what he assigns. Otherwise, I recommend him for any class. I had him for POL 140, HIS 446, and HIS 455...he is knowledgeable about politics and history...A GOOD TIME!
A lot of work, several book readings and long papers.
I wouldn't recommend this man to anyone. He puts in 0 effort. I am not even sure how he got his PhD. I've never had a worse teacher.
HATE THIS CLASS-im kicking myself for not checking this site before hand. he is soo full of himself and his tests are essay and very hard-right along with a 10 page paper and numerous quizes-cant stand him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! worst class ive EVER had and im a junior. wouldnt recommend to ANYONE!
I wish I had taken any other professor... He is a grade A horrible teacher. He is a complete joke. Don't take him ever! If he is the only one teaching a class you need switch majors instead! He is that bad!
clardy is a horrible teacher. he'll give quizzes on stuff that u dont even go over sometime. stay away from him
He was a horrible teacher. His quizzes and multiple choice part of the test arent too bad but the essays suck. Also the paper we had to write was 10 pages over the book The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by Gibbon, he expected us to read the entire book(over 1000pgs) i wouldnt recommend him...
Seemed to know a lot about the subject (Modern Africa), but his lectures came off as boring or lacking. Exams are garbage though since he just wants you to just write a lot regardless of the quality.
Dr. Clardy is a brilliant man, but he sometimes gets in the way of the class material. His quizzes are nearly impossible to ace, and you wont have much of a chance to get an A on an exam. His exams consists of 2 Essay questions so it is that much harder to study for. You will learn a lot but he is tough.
Dr. Clardy is a horrible professor. He speaks as though he knows every politician in the country. He also acts as if he is the greatest political professor of all time. Exams are horrible and you have to review a book that is hard to comprehend and type a 10 page paper over a book that normally would only be 100 pages. ADVOID THIS PROFESSOR!!!!!
Although nice & knowledgeable, he's not a good teacher. Lectures may or may not cover material. You basically teach yourself through a ridiculous amount of reading. Good luck if you're not good at writing, because there were only 2 tests, which were both essay only, and 2 papers in the class, which he grades hard. Full of himself. DO NOT TAKE HIM
DO NOT take him for CIV101. Lectures are extremely boring and unorganized, hard to follow. Quizzes are relatively easy but tests are ridiculously hard. Seems like he thinks his class should be your biggest priority. Expects you to know EVERYTHING about EVERY TOPIC on tests. I am a straight A student and was forced to drop to save my GPA. Avoid him.
Dr. Clardy is extremely difficult, He is unclear about what he wants most of the time, but you WILL walk out of the class and have learned something. He teaches straight off the powerpoint, so if you miss class you can read it and know what he said. He knows too much about history to be teaching it, he makes you feel stupid if you ask a ? too.
I loved history until I took Clardy's world civ 102. This guy is so full of himself its pathetic. He is by far the WORST teacher I have EVER had. His tests/quizes are impossible. He loves to hear himself talk & loves to brag about the "high status" ppl he knows. avoid him @ ALL costs
Do Not Take This teacher! Everythings he says is pompus and unhelpful. This is one that you absolutely cannot ask for help or even talk to for that matter.
My course was basically on the life and accomplishments of Dr. Clardy. And those are not as amazing as he thinks they are.
Very hard class. Expects you to read text but doesn't use any of the material. Repeats himself all the time. goes way to much in to detail of what he will cover in the next class. AVOID IF YOU CAN!
Clardy is so vague its not even funny. He expects you to know every little detail of the text and give you NO information in class. His tests are so specific that it is hard to know what to learn. He tells you to learn major concepts and then asks you for minute details that you have never heard of. DONT TAKE HIM!!!!!!
DO NOT TAKE. I don't know how long he's been teaching, but he clearly has no business doing so. He simply reads "his" powerpoint slides aloud, and often spends 2 or even three days repeating the SAME SLIDES. I place "his" in quotes because to me it seems obvious that he hasn't seen these slides prior to the day he "teaches" them.
He sucks. He really really sucks. He looks like a mix between the Nutty Professor and Carl Winslow. Ha. But seriously...don't take him. Oh yeah, both of his eyes are lazy.
Clardy talks a lot but if you take the time to listen you will learn from him. He has experienced more than most and comes across as arrogant if you don't take into account his achievements and integrity. Overall a nice and friendly professor who is willing to help anyone who asks and respects those who respect him.
Powerpoints are the worst. He says he wants you to know main concepts, then quizzes you over random little details. He NEVER uses the book in class, but fully expects you to read it. Test are hard unless you put some real out of class time learning it yourself. Questions? Comments? Curse words? He says that every class.
1. KEEP UP WITH CURRENT EVENTS! He often includes current events pertaining to the political news on his quizzes as well as a major part of class discussion. 2. He does tend to go on and on about a topic so taking notes can be difficult, however his notes are usually posted on blackboard so read and study those should you have his class.
Dr. Clardy is a horrible teacher. I luckily comprehended what he was saying and what would be on the test. He was the biggest smartass teacher i have ever seen. VERY rude to his students and would act like answering one of our questions was the worst thing he has ever had to do. NEVER reports grades on Blackboard. Still do not know what I have.
I really enjoyed Clardy! His class is easy, and attendance isn't mandatory. He gives lots of extra credit opportunities and is very understanding about missing tests and quizzes. He posts his power points on blackboard. If you can get over him being pompous you will do fine in this class.
Dr. Clardy is one of the most articulate men I have ever met. He has a few memory problems and will frequently repeat himself over the course of a few lessons, but the content is generally good and unbiased. His class is very discussion-based, and everyone is welcome to present his or her view. His workload is very light and his tests are easy.
Clardy is a very hard teacher! This year, he took out all of his quizzes so the only things he grades on is tests. He tells you what to study, but then the test is nothing you were studying over! USE THE EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES AT ALL COSTS! IT WILL HELP IN THIS CLASS. His slide shows are useless--they are the headlines in the book.
AVOID. He's entertaining, but teaching is not his strongest skill. Don't let him catch you with your phone even near you, he'll hold it against you for the entire semester and give you a B when you most certainly deserved an A. Also, he grades his quizzes incorrectly. I was too scared to approach him about this as he is rather intimidating.
very inconsistent, vague, pompous, inconsiderate with communication -cancels class with no notice and random pointless assignments in place of class. gives a review for test and tests over different material *not impressed
Clardy is one of those professors that I will never take one of his classes again. He knows what he's talking about, but his teaching skills are severely lacking. He says its hard to fail his class but then grades his tests, quizzes and papers in a way that almost ensures failure. Feels like he plays favorites and that he doesn't read papers.
Clardy is one of those professors that I will never take again. He knows what he's talking about but his teaching skills are severely lacking. He says his classes are hard to fail, but then grades his tests, quizzes and papers in an extremely hard way. Gets the feeling that he play favorites and doesn't read term papers. He also doesn't take roll.
Dr. Clardy is so educated and articulate. However, getting him to tell you what you need to know for the test is like pulling teeth. You'll have to meet with him in person if you feel like you don't have enough information to do well on the test, which is fine. He gives so much extra credit, so you should be fine in this class!
This man cannot teach and is not personable. extra credit helps you pass, but you don't learn much. If you want to prevent na headache, don't take him.
Clardy knows what he's talking about, and he makes sure YOU know he knows. He's kinda pompous in that respect. He also grades extremely hard on tests (that don't cover what you study) and his lectures aren't very helpful either. He doesn't care what you do. Without the ABUNDANT extra credit opportunities I would have failed, hands down.
He is the nicest guy you will ever meet. Any excuse is a good one with him, BUT his tests are HARD. His power points are useless. If you want to pass this class keep up with the readings, you never discuss the book in class that is something he expects you to do on your own time. Great guy with a big heart, but he is so full of knowledge.
This guy is a preacher and likes to lecture. Be alert and ready to read.
Two words come to mind; EXTRA CREDIT. If you take advantage of this it would honestly be hard to walk away with anything less than a B. His grading is also very easy. If you put in your effort, which doesn't need to be much, you'll do fine. His lectures are very repetitive, but if you pay attention he basically tells you what will be tested.
Clardy is a smart man - well-educated, he's got some published work - But he's just not a teacher. I've taken him twice, got A's by showing up for test days and writing a final paper. Study guides are posted online. Clear interest in the material, willing to discuss with anyone. Repetitive lectures and pitiful neglect of class planning. Fun guy.
Dr. Clardy is very nice man, I didn't learn much from the class but I still passed. He giving out grades lower than a C so he gives out a lot of bonus points. On an exam he gave a test curve of 30 points! Only have to write one paper for this class.
Dr. Clardy is first and foremost an excellent human being. If you pay attention in his class, and be a respectful student you will have no issues. Clardy is extremely knowledgeable and is fully capable of lecturing for the entire class. His tests are not easy, but if you study both material from the book, and the lectures, you will be fine.
Dr. Clardy is a really nice guy, and I have no doubt in my mind that he is an intelligent person, but he is not a good professor if you're looking to actually learn. If you want to take 300 level history classes for a basically free A then he's great. I went to class four times the entire semester I had him and got a high A in the class.
horrible teacher. The entire class period is spent with him rambling about things he thinks are relevant to the "topic" but are not at all. His slides are useless. He clearly has never read the textbook because he puts facts on quizzes that are no where to be found in the book. I taught myself the entire semester and only passed bec of extra credit
Tests were very tough. He asked very specific things that you would have to basically memorize the book to know. The only thing that saved me were the bonus points from extra credit. He offers a lot of extra credit opportunities. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM!!! The only grades he takes are 2 exams, the final, and 4 quizzes (25 pt each).
His quizes are pretty hard if you haven't read the book, but his exams are easy if you study being that he gives clear grading criteria. His quizzes are all multiple choice and his exams are all writing.
His lower level classes are easy and he offers a plethora of extra credit opportunities that can boost your grade. He gives a test outline before each exam with everything that the exam will cover. His quizzes are over the information he covers in powerpoint and the textbook. Overall, it could not be an easier class. All that is required is show up
Great guy, HORRIBLE teacher. Wish I could emphasize "horrible" even more. Worst prof. I've had in college, hands down. He rambles on for an hour about topics that he won't even test you on, and will test you on topics he never mentioned in class. Boring lectures, unreasonable grader, and he has a terrible attitude problem a lot of the time. Avoid!!
I took this class over Zoom due to COVID. The information is interesting, but the classes are so boring. Only tests are Midterm and Final, which require lots of writing. He cancelled class a lot, but when he did, he assigned hour long documentaries and 1-2 page papers: not equivalent to class time. Lots of discussion boards and writing.
His lectures can seem kind of dry but definitely worth it and learned a bit. His tests are very writing heavy but graded fairly. Lots of extra credit, while may not seem the most exciting, is offered and would take advantage of more if I could retake the class. Very accessible and can call easily during office hours.
I literally never leave these for any professor but I just want ya'll to know that Professor Clardy is an absolutely amazing professor. He is really passionate about the subject and makes the content really interesting with stories from his personal life. He always lets you know what is coming up on his exams and what he expects! Love Clardy!
Recommend that you DO NOT take Dr. Clardy for any online course. He does not follow the schedule he gives you, and if you dont catch a mistake then you will be pointed. He does pay attention to grades as he gave me multiple wrong grades.
Writing this as of the first day of class. We all stood outside the PHYSICAL room waiting. He never told us that it was online until fifteen minutes after. None of us signed up for an online course. Better yet, it was meant to be a class about the beginning of America's history, yet we were told to analyze a British movie about King Henry. 0/5
Clardy is always late to class and we have to stand outside of the room and wait. the bulk of his assignments are discussions where you watch an hour documentary and have to write an analysis about it and post it and he will be picky about everything you write. his tests are vocab but he expects a full page definition per vocab word 10 words +essay
Every test and discussion board is writing heavy. Wouldnt take again
After seeing Dr.Clardy's review on rate my professor, I was worried about taking his class. However, I found his style to be relatively straightforward. He gave us the questions for the exams before we took them. As long as you take notes during the lectures, you'll be fine. He's not a super tough grader and he explains anything he marks off for.
Doesn't respond to to email. Doesn't allow questions during class, never used his PowerPoints. Doesn't follow the book at all and off topic and talks about random facts. And he can't spell anything correctly on your test or in class.
Doesn't respond to emails, doesn't allow questions during class. His test have nothing to do with the class or book. He doesn't spell anything thing correctly on your test or PowerPoint or in class. He's constantly off topic talking about stuff that doesn't matter in the class, and never uses his PowerPoints that have nothing to do with his class.
The worst teacher. I honestly have no clue how I made a B in the class. His discussions within class is like he's teaching a graduate program for people that bathe in historic figures. He is also a very difficult grader and expects a page for each answer you give, even if it's a simple definition question.
Dr. Clardy is a lecture-heavy professor but he clearly knows what he is talking about. He grades easily on discussion posts, quizzes have multiple attempts, and he gives clear feedback on exams. He even posts a list of the terms and possible essay questions for the exams. The only difficult thing is the assigned reading and essay for the course.
My biggest complaint with Dr. Clardy is his refusal to answer emails. I sent him several emails over the semester and not once did he answer them. Otherwise, he is a decent professor. Take him if you have to, avoid if you're a new student. His class is structured more like an upper-level class rather than a lower-level class.
Dr. Clardy lectures for every class which can be boring at times. You can make it through the class without reading the textbook as long as you come to class/review his powerpoints. He can assign too much for discussion boards such as 3-hour long videos but you don't have to write an essay to receive credit. His exams and quizzes are very easy.
Dr. Clardy is a good man, but NOT a good professor. Refusal to answer emails and a condescending demeanor makes him a professor you need a lot of patience for. AVOID
You have to read the chapter every week, which is fine, but you also have to watch hour long videos and do a discussion board. He cancelled class today because he is out of town and instead assigned a THREE HOUR long video on top of the hour long discussion board video. Keep in mind that this class is regularly 50 minutes long
I am taking one of his online classes and honestly I am surprised he is evening getting paid for it. The bare minimum effort and lack of communication has drove me crazy especially when most of his assignments have no criteria. This man does not teach and only uses the book with its power points. One of the worst history professors I have ever had.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! He was very unclear on what to do on assignments and he had zero communication I emailed him to ask if our research paper had a rubric to a page requirement and he never responded just posted a "rubric" that was a list of questions Then when I turned it in, he shamed me for not meeting the page requirement. Terrible!
DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH DR. CLARDY! TRUST THE REVIEWS! Terrible communication, doesn't stay on point, doesn't respond to emails, 3 hour long documentary videos, and much more nonsense. He assigned a 5-7 page paper and gave a "rubric" consisting of only 5 questions, then wrote me a hateful email after for "not meeting paper requirements".
Assignments are not clear, and you will be harshly criticized if you do not guess correctly. Dr. Clardy is a decent lecturer, but don't expect him to be accessible at all. He misses class regularly, but will assign long YouTube videos in lieu of class. YouTube university.. and what you're paying thousands in tuition for.
HUS 424, Clardy B! This class is bleh. Clardy is a graduate professor that expects undergrads to do extensive work for harsh grading. Avoid Dr. Clardy. If you're an undergrad, you don't have the time for one of his upper level classes. Trust me. Dude is tripping.
I have him for HIS 424. Don't take this professor. Professors like him are the ones that scare so many people away from college. Get ready to read, watch 3 hour long movies (sometimes in foreign languages), get talked down to when he does respond to an email (which is hardly ever), and be graded like you're in graduate school.
Will make you read 20 pages from the textbook in a singular night only to lecture on it the next day. Assigns extremely outdated documentaries for discussion posts as genuine educational material. Contradicts himself (I.E. says he won't test on dates, but will take points off if you don't include them in an essay).
He is a big lecturer and an interesting speaker, however he seems to be pretty oblivious towards actually interacting with the class most of the time. He is a pretty harsh grader, and unless you are majoring in History, will probably be a challenge to get decent grades with him. Very high expectations, so make sure to put a lot of effort in exams.
Dr. Clardy is a very smart man who is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about his area of expertise. However, for assignments it is never quite clear what is expected of you. For the exams he asks you to define terms, but he doesn't tell you that you need to write multiple paragraphs for each term. He will not hesitate to make you feel dumb.
Exams and assignments take a ridiculous amount of time for an elective. Makes you watch 3 hour YouTube documentaries, exams take hours to complete. He has never responded to any of my emails, but he sent me a hateful email when I did poorly on an assignment that he did not give a rubric for. Sometimes he just doesn't come to class.
Discussion post is normally a 3 hour long video and normally not even over what we talk about in class. He is pretty much late everyday. His test are easy. He gives you 2 days to do it, normally there are 10 terms you have to write a paragraph, one essay question is hard grader. All assignments are online.
All of your grade is from 3 exams, few quizzes-limited attempts, and 1 paper. He has extra credit opportunities which you will need. He told us at the start of the class that dates weren't needed, because everything was so old we didn't have exact dates and he wanted us to understand how things interact, reason for failing the test? No exact dates
He is a easy grader. He is not easy to get a hold of. Dr. Clardy never hardly looks at his emails or responses. The best way to have a discussion with him is to mention your email at the end of class, talk at the end of class, or call his office during office hours. I have gotten A's on all my assignments so far.
