This is a demanding class and the prof is not that helpful. His classes are mostly exercises from the book. He assumes that you know the material before coming to class. He knows a lot of stuff but he can be a little bit monotonous. Between Larochelle and him, take him! He's australian by the way.
This class involves alot of studying and hard work. I found the useless as he only focused on the assigned homework. He didn't do much teaching of the material. He tends to go off topic in class.
Very demanding prof. Expects you have read before coming to class. Class participation is mandatory and graded (if you contribute in class you get points that goes on Doc Depot etc..and you need a minimum of points to pass). Nearly only case discussions, need to learn many things alone. However, it's a rewarding class. I recommend it:)
Entirely case-based discussions. You do learn interesting aspects of management. However the course is open ended to a fault and don't think most student really "got" it.Most us did get tidbits of understanding, but at the end I think many of us were left confused and vague about cases.High expectation for preparation and attendance is mandatory.
Had a fairly positive opinion of this professor up until the midpoint of the course. He continuously ignored repeated requests to clarify expecations for assignments and would not give any type of feedback on submitted work, despite the fact that there had been no previous written work evaluations in the course. Very condescending and unhelpful.
The most part I can not bear about this professor is unfairness in marking. He assign you a mark at his will and never have supportive information to show why you get that mark. He always say one sentence that "you should do more than what you did".This feedback is useless and unhelpful at all
Had him for managerial and intermediate acct 2. Very knowledgeable, smart prof., knows what he's talking about. Nice guy, however, he lacks teaching/communication skills. Hard to get anything out of his lectures;this could partly be due to the fact that he expects you to do the readings and problems before attending the lecture, which no one does
The most useless teacher I have ever had. Don't go to his lecture or even ask him anything because he will misinform you and go on very long tangents. Just skip his classes and focus on the textbook instead, it will give you way better results.
Man o man. Collier is a much better accounting prof. Conheady talks and talks about nothing and will never finished an example. He puts the solution up in class and just talks about it and then branches off onto other topics. I learn nothing from the professor myself and is frustrating because certain grades need to be achieved and he is not helpin
Terrible. If you're stuck with him, kiss your grade goodbye. He is easily the absolute worst professor I've ever had in both college and university. Incapable of conveying subject matter effectively, no explanation of marking scheme, and just boring. There is nothing I can do to do well in this course, and that's unacceptable.
Absolutely terrible professor. Avoid at ALL cost. If collier is teaching the same course, please switch sections immediately upon reading this. The subject matter is not conveyed effectively nor is he very stimulating. If looking for a major in accounting and you come across professor Conheady, all you will end up with is a headache.
Conheady is not a good accounting prof. He rarely conveys the subject matter effectively. The midterm in this class was fair and straight forward but the final exam was unfair and really hard. Collier conveys the subject matter much more effectively and is more interesting to listen to. Be prepared to know int. accounting 1 material for the final
Great Professor. Really knows his material, and is able to explain it effectively. Expectations are made clear, and exams are a mirror image of what was covered in class. As long as you actually go to class, Conheady will explain things perfectly to get you an A. ADM1340 exams are exactly how he does examples in class.
Worst professor ever. I would highly recommend you take the summer courses to avoid him at all costs. His expectations of students are far to high. Marks go out the door. Midterm was not fair at all. Half of the students dropped out of his course. The average for the class was really low.
The worst prof at Telfer hands down. Lectures are a waste of time as he just goes through problem solutions and slides that aren't even his. The quizzes and the midterm did not reflect anything he taught in class. It was also a huge waste of time studying for the final exam since it was identical to the homework questions. This class sucked.
Great prof. I highly recommend reading the slides or the chapter in advance, because he covers the finer, more important details in class. That way you will have a greater understanding of the material! Professor Conheady is highly knowledgeable about accounting, so if you have any questions about accounting as a career, definitely talk to him.
He is the worst prof at Ottawa u. Boring, doesn't stick to the point, doesn't use his own slides, extremely confusing and doesn't mark fairly at all. Stay away or wait you can't because he's the only one who teaches this course.
Professor Conheady, is a very intelligent and nice man. Otherwise, he is a terrible professor. Please avoid if you plan on doing well and continuing your studies in accounting. Very confusing, does not explain concepts. You literally have to learn the course material by your self. Put in the 9+ hours of outside work recommended!
I failed Inter 1 with him the first time, and actually managed a decent grade in Inter 2. After (re) taking Inter 1 with Collier in the summer I was terrified, but his teaching has surprisingly gotten better. The last 5 classes he actually worked through examples with the class. Super nice guy and teaching getting better slowly.
Excellent professor!! Easy to understand and follow the class if, and only if, you read the material before class. The assessments are challenging. This is the first of two "make or break" classes for accounting, but with Conheady you are in good hands!!
Go to class and participate.
If you go to lecture and do the assigned questions, you should be ok. He is helpful.
Really care about students. Open for feedback, generous office hour. However exam is super hard, no bell curve, nothing. You earn what you put into it.
you have to eat the book and learn everything on your own. teaches mostly exercises. so do every problems multiple times. tests are also confusing, long and hard
Expects you to do the reading/learn the chapters before-hand and as a result, doesn't really teach the course.
Conheady does a good job of teaching you how to approach SPECIFIC questions. Although he does not teach the material during the lectures, if you're a person that can learn from a textbook then you can manage the heavy workload of Intermediate 1 and 2. The exams are difficult, but they are manageable if you put in the time and effort - 9 hrs/ week
He is super helpful and care for students (even after we passed the course, he still emailed all of us about CPA/ other career related issues). The way he teaches this course: participation and attendance MATTERS! you need to be prepared by reading cases every week. The midterm and final is taken from the cases done in class. Easy.
Best prof if you're taking Inter 1 or Inter 2. No matter what prof you get you're going to have to read the material yourself since there's so much content in each chapter. He structures his lectures really well and focuses on problems that will most likely be on the midterm/final. He also has online recordings where he goes through problems.
He makes it so that you have to teach yourself everything and the course is designed for your failure. Wiley Plus is a joke, when you have a time limit to complete so much stuff, you're bound to fail. Do the Wiley plus with a group and you'll be better off, as long as one person is comfortable taking the loss for the rest of the group.
Professor Conheady is a nice guy who does care about his students and wants us to reach our potential. However, he's terrible at giving lectures and hands out a tough final just because the average was a bit higher than expected. I think it's time he steps down and hand his position to Yang Li (much better prof).
Worst professor I've had in my 3 years at uOttawa, hands down. Not only is he a terrible professor, he is also incredibly rude and clearly does not care about his students (with the possible exception of a handful of students who dedicate their entire life to his classes). Enjoys making exams unnecessarily difficult. DO NOT TAKE class with him
Needs improvement
Intermediate Accounting is an intriguing course overall; however, Brian seems to be under the impression that his dry lectures cover even a portion of his exams, specifically the final exam. Regardless of his research, there needs to be an addition to the accounting lectures here at the Telfer School of Managment.
To do well in this course you must focus on the most important materials taught in class. Brian Conheady tends to focus on the main questions in class that would most likely be tested on exams. This course is tough not because of the professor but because of the sheer volume of material that needs to be learnt in a short period of time.
While I do understand Intermediate Accounting 1 and 2 are hard classes regardless of where and who you take them with, Brian just makes it worse. Useless lectures unrelated to material on exams, just blabbers on about cricket and Australian Christmas trees. Very unprofessional and condescending.
Brian is a nice guy and means well. However, the way he approaches lectures is not the greatest. I would much rather him cover the chapter's material briefly before diving right into questions. He assigns 20 questions per chapter that he expects you to know when it comes time for an exam...
Conheady is a terible proffessor. He doesn't teach you the material covered in class, just simply does the assigned questions from the textbook and expects you to know how to do it already. Then when comes the midterm or final, he puts questions you have never seen in the asigned homework on to exam expecting you to know exactly how to do it.
His method of teaching is absolutely useless. I finished with a good grade, but no thanks to him
His method of teaching is backwards. Usually, a prof teaches the material and then students do practice questions on their own time. With Conheady, he goes through exercises in class and expects you to magically know how to do them. You are expected to learn all of the material yourself. (and there is a lot to know)
Brian is very knowledgeable in accounting, but not very much so in teaching abilities. It's not that he doesn't know what things mean, it's just that his idea of teaching is by showing the final results rather than by explanation. Heavily recommend utilizing the textbook for explanations and definitions. Old midterms and exams were golden.
You pretty much need to teach your self in this class. The DGDs are much more useful than his classes. Hands down one of the worst profs in Telfer, avoid at all costs.
The workload is a lot so i recommend doing the practice problems and keeping up to date on the lectures in order to have a good grade. He's really helpful to talk to outside of class - office hours twice a week. Practice the questions he gives you a lot and you can do well on exams and attend DGDs
Tips to succeed with Conheady: Attend all DGDs - problems are from past exams & much tougher than current exams. Practice w/ ALL his resources (eg Bondbeagle) as exam problems draw from them & they're way more difficult than homework problems. Past exams are critical. Use BAII Plus for speed. It's possible to do well, but you have to work hard!
Prof. Conheady cares about his students and replies emails quickly. You just need to work very very very hard to do well on the exams. Midterm 1 was fair and the problems were similar to the past exams he posted. Midterm 2 and the Final were difficult. But if you do all his practice questions over and over again, you are guaranteed to pass.
The key to this class isn't going to lectures, it's reading the textbook right through, getting all the practise you can, going to DGDs, and ASKING QUESTIONS! Conheady will clearly answer any question you have. But if you don't work hard you'll probably fail. Exams are fair, prof is good (lectures boring), insane volume of content to learn though.
Read the textbook and go to DGDs. Conheady's lectures are not useful for the tests. Just practice past exams and DGD problems
Conheady was clearly passionate about the subject and was interesting to listen to. However, the exams were unfairly hard. On top of that, lots of points are taken off for small mistakes. Get ready to study, but even the textbook and practice exam problems don't compare to the exam. I nearly switched out of accounting because of him and this class
Conheady's lectures are insightful into the applications of accounting in real life. The lectures themselves are focused heavily on walking through the solutions to the homework problems and oftentimes offer little guidance on how to solve the problems. To pass you must dedicate a lot of time to doing HW questions before class.
Honestly I have taken Intermediate Acc. 1 in Algonquin and I thought she was bad, but compare to prof. Conheady, she is a 1-2 while prof Conheady is a 10 (10 being the worst). He literally doesn't teach you a single thing, but rather waste your time by pulling financial reports of a company and commenting about it. RUN FROM HIM or FAIL
Absolutely terrible prof who doesn't teach at all.
I don't know what is wrong with Telfer, but hiring him as the only intermediate accounting prof feels like the school wants to expel every ordinary student out and let the good ones pass. Seriously, it is only a second-year accounting class and he makes it like a CPA level 3 class. I am done since I am not paying money for frustration.
This prof doesn't teach at all! He simply just throws everything at you and expects you to learn everything yourself. I cannot imagine how those people get B or A with him as the prof. He is the unstoppable force that will drive you out of the accounting program. Whoever takes his class, I wish you good luck since we are in the endgame now.
I barely passed the midterm exams, which is one of the hardest exams I had ever written since I came to uOttawa. Even though I managed to pass midterms, my GPA is now seriously torn apart in pieces. Why would Telfer discourage students in such a brutal way? You must be ready for his course. Otherwise, I suggest that you change your major for good.
Attending his lectures will be useless if you haven't read the chapters ahead of time. Stopped going to his lectures at some point and taught myself from the textbook. To pass: read the textbook in detail, ATTEND DGDs and PRACTICE (like crazy). Tip: he rarely posts slides but the WileyPlus textbook had online slides that were super helpful
I had Prof. Conheady for Inter 1 and 2. Make this classes much easier by reading the chapter and doing problems before class not after. This class is hard because of the amount of content to learn in a small time frame, but Conheady is very clear about what he will test on and really does want everyone to do well
Refused to reveal how many questions were on the final exam which contained questions on separate pages with no ability to go back. Students could not check how many questions there were total and had to write blindly. Second midterm began 10 minutes late, and there was already insufficient time per calculation. Three deliverables per week.
Conheady is by far one of the worst professors I have encountered in my undergrad career. The workload that this prof assigns to their students is equivalent to 2-3 courses worth. Midterm exams were unnecessarily difficult. Don't expect to get higher than a C+. Prepare to self study and waster your tuition money. Avoid this prof at all cost!
Terrible prof; switched everything to Mcgraw Hill Connect so had to purchase the online textbook again and all the exams and tests/assignments are over that platform. Lectures are boring and he talks himself into confusion; better off just reading the text and attending class to do the weekly quizzes and assignments. Final and midterms were easy.
This prof should just choose retirement since he is too old to fit into the modern accounting system. His teaching methods are outdated since he will throw all the work to you and expect you to teach yourself everything. Even if you get an A+ in his class, there is nothing to be proud of because the knowledge only applies in the 1940s.
At final exam, he announced that international students can apply access to exam in another time. I left Ottawa after the application deadline, and emailed him few days before exam to ask if I can get the access, then he disappeared, for 4 days, he should at least inform me about this so that I can allocate my time having two exams from 2am to 9am.
I highly doubt that Telfer opens the accounting program to troll us. The accounting department feels like that it is monopolised by a few people, and Prof Conheady is one of them. This prof follows the teaching ideology in the early 1960s, which is to teach nothing and wait for certain students to pass the class through natural selection. Horrible.
This professor is one of the worst professors in the entire school. Never taught in class, posts 3-4 hour worth of lectures a week. never teaches anything expects you to learn the stuff on your own. The only way to pass is to study the book and solve the questions. Absolute garbage of a professor.
conheady should not be teaching. Midterms were unnecessarily difficult, and his teaching style is very old fashioned. Pretty much read the textbook myself and completed the practice question and never attended class. Regret taking this prof!! AVOID
Despite passing intermediate accounting with a B, I couldnt remember a single bit of what Ive learnt because prof Conheady never actually taught you anything and you had to learn by rote to pass exams. What is the point of going to school if we neither get high grades nor knowledge? I now understand how Louis XIV felt when he got guillotiné.
This prof shows that the accounting education at Telfer is stale and full of itself. The classes are completely useless as he expects you to be a CPA accountant the moment you join the class, which is absurd. Telfer really needs to infuse its accounting department with some new blood, because this prof is only here to let you feel bad and useless.
Absolutely terrible. Classes were scheduled twice a week, yet completely online. He uploads study sequences with textbook readings, Wiley plus videos, and videos he uploads which you clearly see from his computer screen are from 2013 and 2014. Exams are fair but you will spend ridiculous amounts of time on readings and his videos. Absolutely avoid
Weekly quizzes on the upcoming week's subject and tells you to study 9 hours for them, then throws in questions on those quizzes that are actually two weeks ahead so you aren't ready to answer them. Prof thinks students only have his class, because the workload is unbearable. Get ready to do all three midterms on the weekend and not in class time.
By far the worst professor I've ever had in my entire life. He DOES NOT care about the students, and actually tries to mess our grades up as much as possible. He'll say that something isn't covered on a midterm, will then put that material on the midterm, and then give us a measly 1 mark even though the question was worth 12 marks. AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!
Be prepared to read and practice hardcore in order to do well. Conheady's teaching method seems so backwards; why are we doing the reading by ourselves and then doing the practice questions in class? I would take another prof if possible.
Prof Conheady wasn't a bad prof, but expects that all students spend at least 40 hours per week for class related things (10hrs for his), not realizing that people have jobs, families and other classes. Lots of homework and reading material. Realistically, if you attend all classes, spend time studying and taking thorough notes, it's an easy pass.
keep up with this class. complete his entire recommended study plans that he posts super useful, do the hw again and again, and do extra practice questions online if you want a great mark overall a good prof who explains things well.
Not that bad. Just go to the lectures, read the text, and review his recommended study plan.
I will be very honest, I did not attend class as much but I based that on the initial classes. I realized he didn't teach much theory, you had to read the textbook and understood the material and come to class to do problems. If anyone wants a life saver, search Mark Meldrum Managerial Accounting Playlist on YouTube, exact course material.
Weekly quizzes (used for attendance checking), weekly assignments, midterm and final. I found the midterm and final to be very well written and extremely fair however, the large amount of deliverables was super draining. Good prof and clearly knows his stuff. Would avoid taking him again though just because of the weekly deliverables.
His class is legitimately gloomy and unappalling to attend even though you have to for participation & quizzes. He doesn't even go over the chptr that is meant to be prepared for before class. Instead you have to study the chptr for 2 hrs and prepare 1 or 2 cases for his class every week which take 2-3 hrs each. Made an easy course insufferable.
The professor is really awesome, will have pre-recorded lectures that are kind of boring but his class is all about doing the problem which helps a lot. He will have a quiz at the start of every class that is really hard but the midterm and final were fair and the grading was also fair. Class is hard, but practice practice practice!
Method of teaching is great if you find a rythm and do your homework BUT, exams WEIGHT A LOT, lectures are confusing and you get into exercises immediately with prof which can be confusing because you legit self teach yourself with slides and videos. AND the worst part is no formula sheet in exams that are 35/50%with ACCOUNTING...
Firstly, prepare to have weekly assignements that take hours to complete, for them only to be worth a total of 10%. I come to class to try to learn, but he simply does not teach. Just goes over practice questions, while unnecessarily waffling throughout. Expects me to teach myself my watching his weekly 4 hour lectures and reading his 100 slides.
Doesn't teach, but rather waffles about unnecesary things. If you want to learn you have the single option of watching his 4 hour weekly lectures, and read about 100 slides. In class does boring review questions, absolute dull snoozefest. When it comes to the final, even going into it with a good mark, you will fail as its overly difficult, and 50%
If you can, please don't choose this professor, he won't pay attention to your questions. And the exam is very difficult, and the final score counts too heavily!! 50%!!
The midterm is fairly straightforward, study from the questions and you will be fine. His classes are incredibly boring, he would go on tangents about health insurance in Florida and how his knee broke 75 years ago. I would say avoid this prof, but the others are just as bad (if not worse) trainwrecks of professors who use outdated methods.
Professor Conheady is really kind and ready to help when you need it, but I found that his guidance for how to study for the final wasn't all that great, I feel like his lectures would be better if he went over examples from the textbook or even his own slides. Not a bad prof, but too heavy on his capstones.
The way he is teaching this course is hilarious, he will let you do an in-class quiz before he teaches you anything. And that quiz is insanely hard unless you are fully prepared and don't need him to teach you anything! his exam is fair but he makes it hard, there are tons of easy ways to test students, but he chose the hardest way!
Assigns all the lectures through bright-space leaving you to teach everything yourself. Uses class time to ramble about irrelevancy. Quizes VERY difficult. Exams for the most part were variations of textbook questions except much harder which is fair. Exception was the final which consisted of questions no one heard of.That is not right. Laziness
Great prof for kinesthetic learners. He gets you to read the textbook before class then you practice what you read in the lectures and the DGDs. Lots of sample questions similar to the midterm and final. Lots of students did poorly because only 9 people showed up to class. Little bit of a hard marker but at least you learn in his class doing work.
He is a good professor, he definitely knows his subject matter. He doesn't actually teach the lectures, you are expected to teach yourself, class time is only for practice problems. Even then, he does, as the other reviews say, rambles about unnecessary things. If you understand what you're doing, you should have no problem getting a good mark.
Let's address some things: Classes CAN drag, but attendance is not mandatory. He'll tell you himself. Classes are meant for practice problems, which he walks you through, which APPEAR ON MIDTERM AND FINAL. He rambles about 15% of the class time. You can also not go to class. Quizzes are OPEN BOOK. He is genuinely caring. Give me a break.
Worst professor I have ever had in my life. Makes you teach all the course content to yourself and then all he does in class is ramble about unnecessary things happening in his life and then go over these "capstone questions" which were barley on the midterm and final. His only office hours are from 7am-9:30am ON SATURDAYS. Don't take his classes.
Absolutely useless
Quiz content has nothing to do with the knowledge learned before. In class, we just do his exercises and he never talks about anything related to the textbook content. He doesn't even use his own slides. He believes that we can do everything. There are a lot of ambiguous or implicit descriptions of industry conditions in the midterm exam questions.
There are better options, I would avoid at all costs - unless your learning style suits his teaching style. you need to do everything before his class and his classes are just problem sets, not much teaching goes on in his classes
this class is way too difficult for no reason: no multiple choice, no practice or review questions for exams, all long answers that professor does not review on exams, no cheat sheets, no formula sheets, you have to not only solve the long answers but also memorize all the titles. over complicated. pls let us use cheat sheets at least. thank you
Brian should retire from teaching because he weakens the Telfer accounting program and doesn't teach in a way that build a strong foundation for students pursuing their CPA. Overall, he a terrible professor, gives quizzes that destroys confidence and actively wastes the class time that students are spending their money on. Frustrating for no reason
Honestly if you are good at learning on your own, take this class. Do the homework questions and review the textbook and you'll be fine. He wants you to do well and is very nice on emails. You do not need to attend the zooms. I did not put a lot of effort into this class and I did very well. The exams are basically the homework questions.
To do well with the prof you need to do as many practice problems as possible from Capstone and from the textbook, don't read the textbook (takes way too long) because his exams are so long problem focused you are better off quickly going over his slides and just do practice problems over and over again because they resemble the midterm and final.
Quite inconsiderate when responding to emails. When asking courteously, get ready to be responded with a generic and inconsiderate perspective
Conheady cares for the students and teaches very well. Intermediate II is a hard course so it requires a lot of studying. He provided every piece of information you need to success in this course. I didn't do well simply because I didn't study enough, but I appreciate Conheady and think he's an amazing prof.
He's great! I did take 7-10 p.m. classes, so that's mostly what's stopping me from giving 5/5. You'll learn well with him, especially if you're more hands-on, primarily because the classes were dedicated to practicing. Do the readings, practice homework, and make good use of the class time, and you'll do well.
Conheady is extremely knowledgeable about managerial accounting, and really tries to provide as many resources as possible to help your understanding. Yes, you have to read the textbook and attempt problems yourself. But, he also shares great videos going through textbook q's and will readily answer any questions in class or in office hours.
If you're good at learning on your own and use his chapter study plans, you will have no issues. Class time is for problem solving and the prof expects you to learn the concepts at home. The problems solved in class are similar to the midterm and final exams - no surprises. He can go off topic; sometimes it's good advice, sometimes is rambling.
Brian is an extremely knowledgable accounting professor. He is teaching a topic that requires ALOT of self learning and practice. It's something students can't just learn from a lecture - hence the poor reviews from students that are too lazy to open a textbook. Be prepared for class because he spends it doing very relevant practice questions.
I didnt study, but that's 100% my fault with 0% prof Conheady's issue. Dude taught all his life. You can expect him to be a GREAT teacher and will guide you on things. Intermediate II is a tough course. Put in the time and effort!
It's hard to give a fair rating because the professor doesn't actually *teach* the material in class - the (mandatory) lectures are effectively DGDs, solely going through practice problem solutions. Fair enough, but the nature of the course being almost entirely self-taught through the textbook makes the value of showing up questionable at best.
Awful slides, messy Brightspace, and an entire mark made up by 1 midterm, 1 exam, and in class quizzes. The class wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't so insanely boring to listen to and if the slides properly prepared you for the questions asked. The explanations in the slides are so surface level that you are fully unable to get by with them alone.
No solutions provided for the excersises
Brian gives you the tools necessary to succeed in this difficult course . His lectures he posts are very helpful and past exam questions we do in class/dgd reflect the material on the final . You need to study to do well in this course so if you can't do that you shouldn't rate him poorly . Overall a good professor
Was truly not a fan in any sense of the word. the in class quizzes often had averages of 40-55%, so no boosting your grade there, the two main grades (midterm and exam) are laughably unfair. 9 long answer with 14 multiple choice. Thats just way too much. The slides look awful and if all that wasnt enough it is physically painful to sit thu lectures
Quite a boring prof, expects you to learn all the material on your own. Midterm and final worth 85% of your grade... Would not recommend.
He should retire. His teaching methods are outdated, he expects you to learn complex material before class, and requires you to buy $100 Wiley software for quizzes on topics he teaches afterward. He insists you use overly complicated learning tools, lectures poorly from bad slides, and bases grades on an overly long 40% midterm and 45% final.
