Dr. Coppola is great in terms of his passion for chemistry and lecturing skills. Course grades are determined by fixed historical averages meaning there is no adjustment for exam/semester difficulty. I scored ~top 15% in each exam and recieved an A- while a whopping 23% of my cohort recieved a failing grade (D/F). Read the textbook and study hard.

How can you fail 23% of the class? And that is after >10% dropped! This is an outrage and should not be happening. Historical averages are unfair, because clearly exams vary in difficulty from year to year. If 1/3 of the class does not pass, that says something about the lecturer, not the students.

He is, to begin with, an extremely arrogant instructor. For instance, a class where 23% of the students fail does not always mean that you are an excellent educator. Although he is rather impolite, I would absolutely suggest taking Orgo in the summer with Nolta or at a community college.

I had Coppola for Chem 215 and he is not the best out there at all. He is clearly knowledgeable but his notes are unorganized and if you don't go to class you will fall behind fast. Exams are extremely difficult so make sure to do as many practice problems as possible. I could tell he had a big ego as well. My recommendation: avoid if possible.

He was very knowledgeable, however tests were extremely difficult. If you do not do practice exams you won't do well. Also do not request regrades, when I tried more points were taken off instead of added.

Coppola knows his stuff, but his teaching style can be tough to navigate. Attend every class, read the textbook closely, and use resources like unstuckstudy ai to prep. Exams are challenging, but put in the work and you can succeed.

Prof. Coppola definitely knows his stuff. When it comes to teaching he is not good if you're new to the subject. From his lectures you could tell he was pationate about the topics, but he expects you to be as knowledgable as him, making it hard to keep up. I eventually used the other professors lectures because they were actually understable.

Prof. Coppola knows what he's talking about. Although he expects students to know a lot of the material already, and goes extremely fast with his notes, making them hard to follow. I strongly recommend doing lots of practice problems. Pay attention to the ones he likes to do in his notes. A tutor helped me digest the material; tests are very hard.

His lectures are very deep in the content compared to the other lecturers and I think having those complex lectures is what gives his students more of an edge on the exam. Very straightforward guy.

I had him for Chem 130 this semester, and honestly, I started watching other professors' lectures instead. I know this guy means well, but he was often behind the other lecturers simply because he writes everything down on a piece of paper during the lecture. Overall, though, Chem 130 was highly disorganized and not uniform.

The entire chemistry department needs to be lobotomized. I had Coppola as my lecturer—I stopped going after the first week. He teaches like it's the medieval era. Cut your losses and just read the textbook. On a positive note, he is oddly whimsical.

As much of a shitshow Chem 130 was this year, Coppola was actually a great professor. I stopped going to lectures like halfway through the semester, but I still watched the recordings of his lectures. My only complaint is that for more complicated topics, his explanations would get very confusing, but that could just be because of the topic.

He writes instead of using a slideshow, which is fine; however, his handwriting is unreadable. It got to the point where many students did not attend lectures due to this. The class itself is not too bad; the book helps a lot. Not the worst professor, but there is better.

Choose to attend lecture with this charismatic guy who knows his stuff. Because he respects you, he teaches at a depth that requires you to keep up. There's a reason why he gets the highest class average on every exam. Also, his OHs are amazing, like a more chill lecture with a few tangents, and you can learn a lot from other students' questions.

His textbook is great and the practice problems prepare so well for exams. 210 is hard, no way around it. Hes very Socratic, if that's your learning style, you will love him

Coppola's lecture style, while straightforward, can be hard to get used to. He lectures and writes lecture notes on a piece of paper as he goes. Make sure to sit near the front. Lectures are comprehensive but he moves quickly and skips topics, so review notes afterwards and self-study. Solves test-like problems in class and gives exam tips.

While orgo chem is his bread and butter, Dr. Coppola is very knowledgeable about chemistry in general and has THE BEST EXAM PREP LECTURES. He gives fantastic feedback if you read the textbook and have specific or complex questions. He might give you more information than what's needed to pass the course, but that will set you up for future classes.

He is very passionate about chemistry, but he overcomplicated things for Chem130 because he is used to teaching orgo, plus he doesn't use slides (just uses a notebook and pen) so he can go on tangents. The final exam was awful this year. However attendance is not mandatory at lectures so I just went to other professors lectures or self studied.

One of the best professors I have ever had! Truly sparked my interest in chemistry. Come to lecture! Come to his office hour! He is so passionate about the subject; he often gets sidetracked with other topics in chemistry, but it only serves to increase interest in fields related to what we're doing i.e. biochem. Strongly recommend Dr. Coppola

Obviously, Orgo is a tough class, but I enjoyed it. His lectures were engaging, and you could tell that he really has a passion for the subject. He does tend to get sidetracked in lecture with some random stories, but it was always worth going to lecture. If you're already lost in chem, take Tuttle; if you know a little orgo already, take Coppola.
