This guy is clear yet boring. He marks essays hard too.
Not boring at all! I thought he was great, and his lectures were very interesting. Very personable too, which is always an asset in a prof.
He marks on a curve so your first assignemnt is your lowest mark.(If you try a bit harder or the same each time). Good classes, with useless information. Keeps attendance which is for marks. Doesn't mind you missing the odd class. Cool skiny dude.
Great prof. Interesting and personable. He marks essays and assignment quite hard, so don't count on getting an A+ in his course, otherwise, he makes the best of relatively uninteresting material. Obsessed with the difference between "that" and
nice guy, bit of a dork, good teacher, hard marker, good times
As a third year i can tell you that he focuses on stuff you don;t need to know and marks extreemly hard considering...nice enough guy though
cool guy, makes the best of boring, useless material, hard marker but entertaining lectures...good prof.
Nice guy.. but not a good teacher. Marks extremely hard and classes are boring! I'm glad I've finally completed this course.. Again.. nice guy but bad prof. Take his class at your own risk.
he's such a nice guy,likes to chat with students...he teaches very well,lectures r clear,but he marks a little hard.
Dr. Day is a great teacher - very hard marker, but expects no more of his students than what he would give himself. Well worth the class.
He is a horrible teacher. His lecture is useless , but you have to go for taking attendence. He's really a hard marker. If you are risk adverse, do not take his class!
He is pretty funny. Very understanding about sickness. Marks easier as the term goes on. Very, very fair. Tests and papers look for exactly what he teaches in classes.
Funny guy and is really excited about the material in this course. He encourages class discussion and considers all opinions. He is fair marker. In a word: quirky.
He is an AWESOME prof - extremely approachable, and a very fair marker - he isn't one of those profs that takes off marks for repeated mistakes... He loves his subject, and it shows. The class is mostly discussion, which is really useful for developing your ideas on the readings. Open to different opinions/readings. A great person and prof!!
Class discussions clearly followed Day's own outline of thoughts on prose/poems -- independant thoughts that deviated from it were subtly discouraged. Day was more an evaluator than an educator pointing out problems but not making efforts to improve his student's writing, despite the use of office hours. Overly critical comments were discouraging.
The course was horible and seemingly pointless. I got nothing to much against the teacher cept he taught a baaad course
very helpful, funny and entertaining in class, very caring, attendence is part of your mark so attend! very hard marker
Super hard marker; unfair expectations of students even after receiving help; boring!!!
Dr. Day is an extremely nice man. That being sad, he is also an extremely hard marker. He is definitely likeable and his lectures are animated. He obviously tries his best to make dry lectures not so dry with jokes and anecdotes. =)
Great Prof. Turns average material into gold. Yeah, he's a hard marker, but very fair. Follow his (extensive) corrective comments, and you WILL improve. I will be definitely taking courses with him in the future.
Professor Day is a great guy. But make sure you learn your citations. It seems out of date these days now (ie: Ref Works), but the course requires you to know them in extreme detail.
Hes a intelligent, funny guy. A hard marker, but very fair. Works hard to help students improve, and most go from a 60 on their first assignment to an 80 or 90 on their last ones. Not an easy class to take with him, but you'll learn the more than most english profs. Highly recommended
pretends to be nice but really a dbag with no heart and extremely hard marker who discriminates from day 1
Dr. Day was a sweet prof. He was very understanding and super nice. He marks the first assignment fairly hard but over the semester he gives you great feedback and by the end of the semester your mark will improve greatly. I recommend him as a prof. for sure!
Dr Day was a little odd, but a great teacher. He had great ideas, and could convey them well, a hard marker, but fair. Always available if you need help!
Absolutely the hardest marker I have ever come across. Completely set in his ways of writing and doesn't give credit for abstract thought. Doesn't know good writing if it hit him in the face. Talks about his ex-wife to much. Pretty much the worst prof I have come across.
A very understanding and nice teacher. However he tends to stretch the material so thin by working even the simplest point to ground. I found him to be very boring even though he tried hard to be up-beat.
Has strange tendencies (removing shoes for every class?). Has very high standards, but is very clear in his expectations. If You make a mistake once he'll only dock you a little, however continue the same mistake in other assignments and you will lose more marks. If you can't handle learning he is not for you, but otherwise fantastic.
He's isn't too bad of a Prof, he is really fickle when it comes to grammar and kinda gets stuck on his own ideas, He is pretty tough on essays but if you put in some effort you can get a B. Not my 1st pick for a 145 teacher, but he did a decent job. Plus he kind of looks like a turtle, just sayin'!
Great prof! Very fair and understanding. Really listens to his students and their opinions on the material and the course in general. It's interesting to have a personable prof but he talked about his divorce and his ex wife almost every single class...felt a bit awkward. Highly recommend Dr Day!
Dr. Day is one of those professors who has his star 5 students and all the discussion is between them every class. His marking system is totally flawed and biased to the students he likes. I still got a B but i think i deserved way higher. Plus his choice of books was horrible!!!
I love Dr. Day... his enthusiasm and stories made the class a lot of fun!
Great and friendly prof. The first few assignments he may mark a bit tough, but he clearly lets you know how to correct your mistakes so you don't make them again.
Hard Marker, yet very knowledgeable in the field of english. Overall tough course but definitely prepares you for University writing
If you're interested in learning english to it's more fine detail, Dr.Day is right for you. He is highly skilled in English;however, I found that he was a hard marker With this hard marking, came lots of great feedback. This is defs not a bird course with this prof if that is what you're are interested in. Nice guy and helpful. LOTS OF WORK.
Very kind man, knows his stuff. Hard marker, but that's how you learn.
Nice guy, but a hard marker and a bit of a grammar nazi. Will edit your work until it sounds the way he would've written it. Does give lots of good feedback.
Dr.Day made english fun and enjoyable! I would definitely recommend him to any student wishing to take courses in English.
Hard marker, didn't give much direction. Terrible course.
Extremely unfair marker, does not give supportive feed back. Arrogant and a grammar nazi.
Very hard marker. Boring assignments. He gets held up on tiny details and grammar and misses the bigger picture.
Effective overall. Tends to care more about grammar than anyone ever. Take it seriously while in his class, but chill out afterwards - no one cares about that comma that should be a semi-colon. His comments on students' lesser works can be demeaning and a bit mean. He's not a life-ruiner. Don't worry!
Extremly unfair marker. Graded early assignment lower and final ones higher to show some kind of improvment. Grammar Nazi and overal boring condesending techer. AVIOD
His marking is super unfair and he focuses on the most insignificant things. His lectures are boring and he's really akward. If you are in his class expect 1-2 letter grades lower than in another class.
Marks very hard making it difficult to get the grade that you want. His lectures are boring and the article he chooses for assignments are the dullest topics. I will be happy once this term is over and done with.
Made me really interested in English. Really enjoyed his lectures. Lots of charisma. However he marks VERY hard. But homework is manageable. Just ask for help on grammar, punctuation, and referencing.
He may come off initially as harsh or awkward, and deviating at all from format rules or writing creatively in the open assignment will leave you burnt. However, if you approach him, he is helpful and quick to concede points on unfamilar styles of citations. He is surprisingly humble.
Decent prof. Tends to fly off the handle to express himself and it tends to be awkward. Hard marker, lots of feedback on assignments although it is impossible to read with his writing. Overall not terrible but if there is another option for prof's I would choose the other one.
If you are looking for an easy grade don't take his class. Marks extremely hard and is a stickler for tiny details. My worst engl mark I ever received was in his class. Material is dry and boring.
Tough marker and a stickler for the details, but an excellent professor. Put in the work and make sure you edit your work thoroughly and it's possible to get an A in his class.
He is by far my favorite prof.He really cares about how you do in the class and is ALWAYS there to answer questions. He tells really weird but funny stories and he's just so passionate about his class. He really gets to know you and if you get on his good side he will mark a little easier. All in all such a sweetie! Definitely take his class :)
Good prof. BJ Day is not an easy marker and expects a fair deal out of his students but he is very clear in his lectures. A very funny guy with some good stories about his ex-wife. Getting on his good side is helpful. Would recommend him for this course.
Edits your work like it is going to be featured in high class journal. Focuses way to much on grammar, and misses the "big picture." Except a lower grade level then you're use to.
Hard marker but was very clear with expectations and provides marking templates. Humorous and is very helpful during office hours.
BJ Day was a good professor. I thought he marked fair and I was satisfied with the marks I received. Some of the articles he chose were boring but he was pretty funny and class wasn't completely boring, Fair warning do not go to class and expect you can be on your phone, he is very strict about electronics in class.
Dr. Day is a very strict marker, but he genuinely cares about his students, and is ALWAYS willing to help when asked. I definitely got much lower English grades than I was used to with him as a prof, but overall he was a pretty effective teacher.
Found his clarity very difficult to understand, as I have to visit him several times to clarify my grade as he would mark things wrong when they were not. Finding office time was easy, though communication for expectations were difficult to understand.
It was a treat to be in Dr. Day's class. Most of my classes have been science classes and I found this was the class I ended up looking forward to most days. He is super meticulous about details and grammar, but if you participate in class you will have a lot to say and if you leave time to edit your work it is easy to get a great grade.
Dr Day is a very fair prof. He gives insanely clear outline for all assignments and even the final exam. He's a great person. He does take attendance and if you miss too many classes, he starts to take away marks. Saying that, he's very understanding if you miss class for a valid reason.
Dr. Day puts a great deal of effort into preparing his lectures. I appreciated how he presented ideas and sought feedback from the students to further develop them. The expectations of the papers were reasonable and the final exam was a bit difficult, but very fair. I took this as a requirement and Dr. Day made it pretty painless and interesting.
Dr. Day is a pretty good prof, he gives really clear outlines for all assignments and lectures are fairly clear. He also gets back to any emails really fast. The lectures can be boring though, and you have to pay very close attention to grammar and all tiny details in your assignments to do well.
Dr. Day was the best was a great teacher. His marking was tough but only because he wanted you to work to become a better writer. He also gives you a clear outline as to what he wants for every assignment so if you follow it you're bound to at least get a B.
worst teacher I met in my life, and I believe I won't meet any teacher that worse than him. He won't tell you anything about the course and give a incredible low mark.
Highly recommend to first year university students. Very clear, helpful and informative. Tough marker but acknowledges effort put in. Not an easy A, but he makes you work for a good mark.
Good class to be in. Clear instructions given for assignments and keeps an open mind about feedback given to him. Wants to help you improve in the course. Ensures the he's available for the students and if he's not, he'll make sure everyone knows. Does his best to get the students into discussion rather than have him talk the whole time.
Great guy, but a tough marker. He sets out very clear criteria for each assignment but don't try to do it the night before. If you want a good grade, work hard and participate in class. Edit well, and you can bump your B- to an A.
He is very specific and helpful. English has always been a dull subject for me but he made it bearable
He is a good prof who knows his stuff. You have to work for your mark as he is a hard grader. Really particular on the little things but I think my writing has improved over the semester as a result. Make sure to go to class, he takes attendance everyday and often gives small assignments at the beginning (you're normally given warning).
Dr. Day is a hilarious and inspirational professor who, for the first time in my life, made me appreciate english. While his grading is a little tough, he explains what he wants to see very clearly, and leads discussions in a funny and helpful way. I used what he taught me in every other class, and became a much better writer thanks to him!
Day was an okay prof, I just didn't like how nit picky he was with his grading. He really really likes perfect papers. Also, don't disagree with him on anything in papers if you want an A.
Dr. Day's lectures are amazing and always entertaining. He loves literature to the point of it being almost insane. BUT he is a very very tough grader -- however an A is not out of reach.
Dr. Day is clear about what he is looking for. The required readings are interesting. He is strict about rules and takes attendance. He doesn't allow people to use electronic devices in class. Take notes with a notebook and pen! I would say he's fair marker.
200C was a good course, but we skipped a lot of influential Romantic writers that probably should have been covered (i.e. Byron). The papers do matter, and he's not afraid to dock points. You will have to actually read the novels and poems to understand what's going on, and there isn't much time allotted for the novels.
His grading is super clear, and not too strict. He'll probably give you better grade if you ask him more questions or participate in class more.
Dr. Day is all about what is best for his students. I enjoyed his well prepared lectures and his enthusiasm towards the english language even if I have none of that. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a class that will prepare you for University writing. Very understandable and easy to reach out of class.
I've never had a professor who a) is so unsympathetic to student needs and b) when department sits in for lecture brags about his thesis from decades past. It's also difficult to not crack up when he refers to himself as B.J. Day constantly.
Dr. Day is a great professor. He makes his expectations clear, and provides great feedback on assignments. You will do well in the course as long as you come to lecture and pay attention to the assignment instructions.
Dr. Day was an excellent balance between personal and professional. Made his criteria extremely clear, just focus on the stuff he puts stars next to in the marking rubric. Learned miles more than any English class I had taken in high school. Effective teacher that I truly enjoyed, highly recommend for English 135.
engaging and in-depth lectures, genuinely passionate about the material, easy marker
As a Math major who is interested in literature, Dr. Day was the absolute perfect prof. Uses the full lecture time covering background info, classical interpretations of the text, along with his personal insight into the subject. Clearly passionate about the Victorians, easy marker that's open to a variety of opinions, would definitely recommend!
He cares much more about your grammar and attendance than he does about the content of your papers and the validity of your arguments. Normal for 135. If you can take it with any other prof do that because he is a VERY strict teacher, you will fail for not showing up. Hes funny, but he will report you for plagiarism for an incorrect quotation.
Seems passionate about the subject but is a hard marker and cares a lot about grammar. Very high expectations for attendance but gives a lot of work in the class.
passionate about the subject but determined to not let students improve their skill throughout the course. Makes it extremely difficult to do well in what should be an introductory course.
Dr. Day is a wonderful professor. He is extremely passionate about literature and his enthusiasm brings the material to life. At the same, he is open to student interpretations and ideas, and we had lots of interesting and illuminating in-class discussions. He encouraged students to think independently and took our contributions seriously. A+ Prof.
Nice prof. He really cares about his students and tries to make his classes funny. Tough grader as well. Be careful about your grammar and you will be fine.
Super nice guy, really open to people's opinions and can be pretty funny. Has high expectations and is a tough but fair marker. Great use of multimedia including coursespaces and email. Attendance is mandatory. Participation is encouraged but you could get by without it. Lectures are usually very relaxed and enjoyable.
Dr Day cares about his students, but he cares way too much about grammar and marks all your assignments as if he found out you cheated with his wife. I would recommend if this dude pops up on your schedule to find any other prof to teach your English class. The semester will be a nightmare of weekly grammar assignments if you don't!
If you need a high GPA and arent amazing at English, do not take his class... youll learn but the grades arent pretty
Dr. Day was an overall good professor. He is always open to questions and wants you to succeed in his class. He tends to say really awkward jokes and brings up his ex wife a little too much. If you already have 3 or 4 heavy courses that semester I would say to not choose this prof because it is a ton of work!
Dr. Day is a nice person, but he cares more about grammar and punctuation than he does about his students needs. If you want a good gpa take a different profs class!!!
Dr. Day is an awesome prof. He really cares about the grammar in your writing, so he marks pretty tough. If you actually want to learn something then he is a great prof, who will teach you very applicable things. He has great humor too. I would recommend talking to him before/after class so he gets to know you.
i learned more from my grade 10 teacher. i believe this guy is actually crazy, like he really belives all this mla and citing stuff matters the world in todays society. Not everyone has careers that will ever use the stuff he teaches and forces down our throats. He uses his power of being a teacher to write usless papers which he grades unfairly!
Nice person, but HORRIBLE professor. He gives homework EVERY Friday that must be completed over the weekend. Has the highest expectations and workload of any English prof at UVic. He is so organized that finding information on coursespaces is actually more difficult as theres hundreds of folders to look through. Sends out multiple emails daily :(
Dr Day as a person and teacher is incredible and I've learned more from his lectures than any other engl teacher. He is hilarious and kind, but he marks you as if you're a PhD in english. Use one word he thinks isn't adequate and he'll deduct you 10% on an almost flawless paper. Work load isn't too bad if you don't have an assignment due soon.
B.J. Day was the most entertaining prof I had in first year. He is funny and passionate and kept everyone intrigued by his lectures. He is a fairly hard marker, but super understanding of his students. If you participate in class he will love you. Barely any homework and almost impossible to fail his class, but also extremely hard to get an A.
this guy doesnt know a thing, and acts like he does. if you wanna learn mla and thats it take him.
Dr. Day has a tendency to assign multiple assignments that are due back to back which means you have to cram a lot of work into a very short time period. He also won't open the next module until days or even a week after the previous one closes, meaning it is impossible to get ahead and, once again, you have hardly any time to complete assignments.
Hes a funny and great prof, but be wary the course load is quite a lot and he also marks very hard! I have no idea how I wouldve ever achieved an A, even though I felt as if I was working my hardest. Overall great prof and you learn a lot about writing (APA) in this course
Seems like a nice guy, but he takes this class way too seriously and grades very harshly. For a first-year course, this was ridiculous - the class average was insanely low. We had far too many assignments and emails and far too little instruction. His class probably won't make you a better writer, but it might destroy your confidence and your GPA.
Thorough feedback but boy there are a lot of assignments. Very tough grader. Not an easy A at all, though it is an informative class. He's helpful and kind, but I feel a little bit frustrated with how hard I've worked and how little it seems to pay off. Had classmates switch to another section and get better grades on the same work.
Got stuck in his class after the other one i picked got cancelled. My hardest class. Gives feedback but takes forever to give it back & makes several things due close together. writing the final research paper was brutal and had lots of steps. Instructions for assignments were confusing and 8 pages long. do not take if you struggle with english
Brian was nice but bad at marking, little feedback and for little mistakes, you would get a 0. Also doesn't give good rubrics and isn't clear on his expectations. Not a good teacher.
Only take this course if you don't have a lot of heavy classes. Good teacher and sweet guy who really does care about his student's well being but is pretty strict when it comes to marks. If you deviate from the rubric even by a little bit say goodbye to an A. Lots of extra work to do outside class. Lecture attendance not mandatory but helps lots.
He gives good feedback but is a fairly harsh marker. Be prepared to work if you want an A, especially if its your first uni english course.
Nice human, however he grades paper like you are PHD candidates, not understanding, terrible advice for improvement, no help along the way
Nice guy but needs to chill with the grading
Just kinda incompetent at interacting with people and communicating. Would not recommend
Dr. Day is a delightful professor (super funny, great storyteller) and you can really tell that he's passionate about what he's teaching. He's also very accessible for help in his Zoom office hours, and is very helpful overall. However, there are writing assignments almost every week and it got pretty exhausting.
Dr. Day is a great teacher! He is humorous, caring, and knowledgeable. I did enjoy his course, but he is a tough grader! I would have put more effort into my papers if grammar/technical errors were not graded harshly. I wouldn't take the class again because of this, my friends who had different profs received much higher grades with less effort.
Very boring and close-minded, one of the worst classes I’ve taken at Uvic with Brian Day making this class as miserable as could be… I would avoid this prof
Dr. Day was a very good teacher! I always enjoyed his lectures very much and he explains very clearly what is expected of you.
Brian is truly a passionate caring professor. Unfortunately, his grading is horrendous. If you make the slightest error on an assignment he will deduct 10% and if you slightly mess up the citation he will report you for plagiarism. He needs to understand 1st years students aren't capable of writing a phd level paper.
This guy needs to include rubrics. He will just deduct 30% percent for no reason without any explanation based on if he likes you or not.
Dr. Day is a fantastic individual with several amazing stories and a bright personality. He is highly accessible from email outside of class and is an overall pleasure to speak to. The only negative side is that Dr. Day marks incredibly harshly and leaves little room for the smallest of error. My tip would be to reach out to him for tips.
Dr. Day is genuinely a great and caring prof. He will substantially help you improve your writing skills. Though one large trade off from all the skills gained is his grading. If you cant afford to drop your gpa its not worth taking. Expect a grade 10-15% lower than expected, no exaggeration.
I had Dr. Day look over my paper TWICE before submitting it and got a failing mark on it. I went to every class, participated, and got a 90 in grade 12 English.
I really wanted to enjoy this class with Dr Day, but his grading criteria was super unclear compared to the feedback on assignments. He is a very tough grader and encourages regurgitation of format over content.
Worst marker ever. Gives terrible feedback and his marking does not match provided criteria. Has classes that are meant to help with assignments but in class says he is not going to help.
Dr. Day is a very nice and professional professor, but his grading is extremely harsh and you will struggle to get anything above an 80. If you miss even one piece of an assignment, expect to get a 30 or 40 instead of a 70.
Clearly has a ego. Follows every rule in the book type of prof. Doest teach much and refuses to help and hopes you can figure it out on your own due to Uvic rules. His marking is also terrible. If he doesnt like a word in your paper he will deduct 20%. No exaggeration. One paper had 10 parts and i got 9/10 right but since I botched one I got 40%.
Dr. Day was a great prof. He genuinely cares about his students and is very clear in lectures. However, most people in this comment section are correct: He is a very hard grader. Sometimes I didn't know why I got marks off, and he could be very picky. My advice is use the writing help on campus.
You will learn a lot; however, he is very tough with his marking and seems to have a secret criteria for himself, along with the one that he posts. Very accessible outside of class but I would take whoever else is teaching this course for your term
While it was a tough experience in this class, I learned a lot. I may be biased, but because I am passionate about writing, I found the class very helpful. But I agree with the other comments that he is a tough marker. Dr. Day was very kind, however, and seemed like a genuinely nice person, and made me feel welcomed to class.
I love this man, anyone saying he is a tough grader must be overestimating their english skills. I did! SUPER accessible outside of class.
very nice guy when your in class but a very strict grader with little to no wiggle room as far as assignment submission. I found him to be very undermining or sassy even when reaching out to him or when he reaches out to you.
as much as BJ Day clearly showed he is knowledgeable and respects all us students, there is an underlying judgement that comes forward with every question or email. His grading was the hardest I've encountered and I strongly urge you to pick another prof if you need ATWP135. He is so so funny until you get a 60% on a paper.
While Dr. Day is a tough grader, his feedback, caring nature (to those who learn from the feedback), and articulated thoughts make him, hands down, my favourite professor of my first year. The fight for an A was worth it to know that dad-... I mean... Dr. Day felt joy when he submitted my 86 to the registrar (knowing he helped a student grow).
BJ Day is overall a good teacher. I will say though, he is a super difficult marker. He fails your assignment if you do your citations wrong which to me, is a bit overboard. However, he does allow resubmissions for most assignments but with a 5% deduction mark. I also found that the topics he covered in class were not super relevant to assignments.
Dr. Day is a knowledgeable prof who cares about student growth, but his grading can be tough. Use campus writing help and tools like unstuckstudy to succeed in this challenging yet rewarding course.
Day is a controversial prof due to his rigid grading. You are actually given many chances and feedback on how to improve. He's definitely a character but made me laugh. Be prepared for emails seething in passive aggression. At times it feels there is a "hidden criteria" but if you have a decent writing ability you can succeed.
Dr Day was a decent teacher but the things he covered in class felt quite unrelated to the topics that our papers and assignments were on. He was also very sassy and dismissive over email and it felt like he had very little interest in helping outside of class. His responses were always oddly passive-aggressive and made me not want to reach out
Very nice prof, but a strict grader with unclear and almost secretive criteria.
very nice professor. he makes sure you feel included and validate all your ideas. he replied to emails and graded your paper fast. the only thing, yes is his grading. he is extremely detailed oriented and really really hard. if you meet the criteria, you just got a B- or B. but we learnt a lot i really respect him. be prepared for very hard grading
Very tough marker but makes it clear what he wants
Overall, he is nice but gives less freedom than the other teachers in this subject. He also grades hard, but is willing to work with you to better your writing, I definitely learned something.
Expects absolute perfection in your writing. Lays out bear traps in each assignment. Step on a trap, recieve an F. May show up in one of your dreams to scare you.
Seems like he gets off on marking things poorly when they are not perfect. Very strange man.
He actually made me want to drop out of university. Every single assignment was graded so harshly that no matter how much effort I put in, it never felt good enough for him. I lost so much motivation. Professors like this are the reason I hated learning in high school. Do yourself a favor and steer clear.
Dr. Day makes it very clear what he is expecting from his students and provides detailed explanations in his lectures. He will answer all of your questions and genuinely wants his students to succeed. Tough marker, but if you show up to class and follow the instructions, you will do well in this course! He's a character and will make you laugh!
Dr. Day is actually a very nice old man however, the way he grades and goes about assignments is not great. Not only does he mark insanely hard, but each assignment has like 5 different ways you can auto fail. He is always willing to help students. I will say, though, that I do not think he has given an A to someone in his life.
Dr. Day is a very kind and supportive professor (my fav of uni). His assignments are not based off of lecture content, but application of ideas that he discusses. Make sure you know APA-7, and GO TO OFFICE HOURS. While attendance isn't mandatory, those who have amazing attendance tend to preform better. He's a nice guy, but you have to work hard.
Dr. Day gave very little useful feedback and when asked for help replies telling you to ask yourself. Talks excessively in lectures instead of covering content in assignments. Extremely tough and hidden grading criteria. The only good part is he is nice about needing extensions and allows rewrites if you fail an assignment.
Dr Day is a tough grader and rarely provides feedback that can be used to further improve your future assignments. He rarely gives a grade above 75% and his lectures mainly consist of stories of his past. While he is a nice teacher and is open to extensions it difficult to improve your writing as his critiques make no sense.
if your going to take his class what ever you do, do not take it at 8:30am, his attitude and dry lectures will be a horrible start to you day. overall the class was beneficial but his feedback most of the time is hard to understand. go to office hours it will make or break if you bounce back from a provisional grade or not. stay strong!
