Brian Drake is the most interesting professor I have ever taken a class from. He's great! However, it sucks if you get a hard TA. This class is entirely graded by TAs, so your interaction with Drake is fairly limited. I would recommend this class, but beware it requires LOTS of reading! Seriously, LOTS.

Drake is an amazing professor and he tries to make the lectures as good as possible without being so boring. My attention span died out by lunch so it was a bad idea to take it then. Your grades DEPEND on the TAs. Anything he says has potential to be on tests. Go to class and take notes, even in break-outs.

I loved this class! Prof. Drake's lectures were always very interesting. As far as your grade goes, it partially depends on your TA. His tests are difficult, and I had to study a lot to make a good grade. However, I actually enjoyed learning about US History, which I usually find boring. Highly recommended!

Dr. Brain Drake is a very nice guy, and his lectures are definitely superb! however, the workload for the class is insane, you had to read a total of 6 books(a couple up to 300 pages), it's hard keep up. I withdrew from the class because I made a huge mistake of my own on the first exam, but I think all of you could get a B if you work hard enough!

Drake is a good professor and his lectures aren't too hard to sit through. Attendance isn't manditory for lecture but is part of your grade for break-out sessions with your TA. It is suggested you go to class anyway. The grade depends on your TA entirely. Tests are complicated and hard to know exactly what to focus on when studying.

Great story teller. He is very nice, and smart, laid back. If you pay attention in class and do all required reading it isn't horrible, but you do have to study. A LOT OF READING. If you don't like that, don't take the class. Essays are ok. It depends who your TA is.

This class is definitely not an easy A. Go to class and take good notes because there's no textbook. Grading depends on your TA. Tests-- you were given a few key words and quotes and told to describe the significance. Lectures were usually interesting but this class required A LOT of studying and reading.

History at UGA is hard, end of story! I was a little skeptical about taking Dr. Drake but he is an awesome professor! His lecture notes are crystal clear and he throws history at you on a basic level! His tests are extremely fair and if you study, you will be just fine! I came out with an A, definitely take Drake for Hist 2111!

Dr. Drake is a great teacher, but he's not the one who grades your tests. He also isn't really up for helping outside of class, he'll just tell you to talk to your TA. But his lectures are easy to understand and he puts the slides online.

His lectures are really interesting and the reading is really neat to read, not boring or dull at all. This class is a lot of reading, and you have to study lectures, but tests are pretty straightforward. He is an awesome teacher and lectures are not boring. I recommend him for sure!!

He makes history interesting, which is a lot more that I can say for my past history teachers. You do need to keep up with the readings to do well on the test, but the readings are primary documents so most are interesting and the rest are short. Beware of hard TAs though. They get to grade and their scale is subjective

I hated history until taking Drake for 2111. He is AWESOME. Lectures are crystal clear and he does his best to make them interesting. Go to class, take notes, and you'll do fine. GREAT class! I highly recommend taking Drake if possible!

I took the honors section of this class and while the class itself was captivating the tests were really hard. You needed to have a very solid understanding of the outside readings to even begin to do well and these readings were not easy reads. I would not take this class because it ended up killing my GPA and putting me on probation...

Drake is an awesome professor, very engaging and enthusiastic. He goes pretty fast and every class has a lot of detail so attendance is definitely encouraged. The tests are really difficult, all essay style, so if your TA is a tough grader (like mine is), the class will be rough. As far as history professors go, I'd say Drake is pretty solid.

Drake is an awesome professor! I took him in the fall of 2012 and it was my favorite class. He is very passionate about what he teaches and unlike other classes I didn't fall asleep in his class. Drake is seriously the best history teacher. Take him for US history after 1945, especially if you are a history major/minor! There are a lot of books, but they are all really interesting (which is rare). Highly recommend!!

This class basically relies on the TA since they grade your work and tell you what's actually important. go to them for extra help. the test set up is odd, but after the first you almost always do better. Professor Drake was great. It takes a minute to get the hang of things but by the first test if you follow the formula (that he CLEARLY gives) you'll do fine. You gotta read but it's not too heavy and made information that I didn't care about pretty interesting. Despite thinking it was cool, the music at the beginning of class was kinda lame.

Dr. Drake gives very interesting but detailed lectures. If you go to class, you don't even need to read the textbook since the tests are based off lectures. As long as you put a solid effort into his class, you will do fine in it. However, your grade is up to your TA, so in the 3 tests and 3 papers, ask the TA for what they're looking for. The only reason you'll need the textbook is for the documents at the end of the chapter. All of the other information is covered in the lectures.

Your grade is based on participation and two LONG essays that demand a continuous understanding of U.S. history from 1865 to the present. Good note taking twice per week, a little reading and then actual participation in the discussion class and you'll get an A.

Drake is a phenomenal lecturer and a great guy to listen to. He masterfully presents difficult topics of the last two centuries in an impartial manner. This isn't your high-school-football-coach-taught History class, Drake is the real deal. Three rather straightforward but tedious papers. Tests are an easy A if you listen to key points in class.

Dr. Drake loves teaching history, and it shows in his lectures. He tries his best to make every lecture bearable for everyone. Show up to lecture because he teaches to his tests and you're not going to get the same quality from the textbook alone. All in all a good professor, would take a class with him again. Also: READ!

How to get an A on Drake's tests: Go to lecture, don't just take notes on the easy stuff, read the book and look for the BIG PICTURE because thats half of the points on his essay-based tests. It does depend on your TA for grading though but you can dispute it.

If you're taking history, Drake is the way to go! Knows and loves what he is talking about. Lectures are interesting. Your TA grades all of your work (3 tests, 3 papers, quizzes). I think all of the TA's were fairly hard graders. DO THE READING (weekly reading from textbook for participation & pop quizzes, also 3 add. books). Tests were pretty easy

Tests formats are all the same, including the final. There are two sections, ID terms and short answer. In total, five "questions". You have to write everything you know about a single name, word, or quote. And based off of your clarity and ability to relate the term/quote back to a bigger picture determines your grade in the class.

Drake is one of the best lecturers I've ever had. I always enjoyed the topics he covered in class. I personally found the 3 tests and 3 papers to be very easy, but some of my classmates had different experiences. If you show up and put in a little work you should get at least a B.

Dr. Drake is an excellent professor. He knows the material well and challenges you to apply yourself. While I admit he is a tough grader (he graded our essays since I was in the honors section), it was well worth it. Also I was pleasantly surprised at how interesting he made history lectures. He was one of the best professors I had at UGA.

I enjoyed Drake and listening to his lectures, however your grade in the class is completely determined by your TA, so it depends on which one you get. The grading criteria is often unclear, and all of the TAs are very tough graders. The tests are definitely easier than the papers. I liked the material and class as a whole, but the TAs ruin it.

He is really good at lecturing and is a funny professor. Probably the best history teacher I've ever had. TAs grade everything, so how you do depends on your TA. I thought I deserved better grades than I did, but I'm not complaining because I only studied for 30 minutes to an hour the night before and didn't take tests seriously.

TAKE DRAKE! He's hilarious but sensitive to the painful parts of history at the same time, and really cares about making history real and fun. Would take only Drake classes if I could. I never liked history before this class, but he made me appreciate it. There are only 3 tests (all open answer) and 1 paper, and he grades hard, but he cares about the bigger picture more than specific names and dates. He cracks some jokes, and definitely makes coming to class enjoyable. It's not an easy class, but I would definitely recommend it!

There are only three tests, one of which being the final along with an essay that go into your final grade. Drake is a great lecturer, and the tests are all free response/essay format. The way he structures class is very plain. He pulls up an outline and just explains the bullet points. Can be boring. Must handwrite notes in class. His tests are all short answer and essay. You will learn what they TAs look for when they grade them. You can do well in this class but you will have to work. But he is an enthusiastic speaker.

Honestly, I couldn't have asked for a better lecturer than Dr. Drake. I didn't mind waking up early for his class. However, I rarely skipped his class, but I still didn't score extremely high on the 3 tests and 1 paper he assigned. That was all my TA though, and he graded fairly. Attendance isn't mandatory however his lectures are pretty interesting when I went. Had three tests ( all essays) and one paper. The tests aren't too bad, just make sure you answer all parts of the questions and explain your commentary thoroughly with evidence and make connections to other events. Dr. Drake is incredible. His lectures are so engaging and his passion for history is what fuels that. Also aside from being brilliant, he is hilarious which makes lecture fun. Expect to read a lot and take efficient notes in class. It is difficult to get an A b/c those TAs grade harshly but he acknowledges that and is always willing to help you!

Drake is a great history professor! His lectures are interesting, and he's funny and extremely knowledgable. You don't have to go to lecture, but you do have to go to your discussion section once a week. The tests are ALL WRITING, but you can do well if you pay attention in discussion. You don't have to do all the reading just the documents.

Took his 2112 class and it was super interesting. Don't have to do a ton of work and can get Bs on the tests; a little extra could probably get you an A. I never read the textbook and got high Bs on the tests just by going to lecture. Lectures are very interesting

Super great lecturer and really makes sure you understand the concept. There is a lot of reading required for discussion classes, but very few quizzes and relatively easy tests. Only one paper when I took it, and very fair grading!

I took post- civil war history with Drake and it was pretty straight forward. Drake is a really funny guy and loves to crack jokes during lecture which makes it more enjoyable, but he can sometimes be hard to follow because he goes off on tangents. Some TAs are better than others so make sure to get a good one!

The lectures are lengthy and honestly your grade really depends on if you know your history and the TA grading it. The tests are fully essay exams and the TA grades all of the exams. Just make sure you do your reading before your breakout session and you'll be fine. I didn't touch the book until the final essay.

Dr. Drake was an amazing lecturer even if you don't like history. All of his notes from class are up online, little outside reader or homework required from the class, test are all in essay form with four questions total. If you pay attention in class and read the assigned documents you'll do fine.

Dr. Drake was easily my favorite professor this semester. Have to do a lot of reading but really amazing lectures and funny guy. Definitely take him if you have the chance. Your grade reflects the work you put in. Cant say enough great things about him.

His lectures, although not mandatory to attend, were fantastic. Even though they matched his chosen textbook quite well, his explanations, powerpoints, and enthusiasm made the class fun. Tests were heavy on concepts, not facts and trivial facts. The class was structured in a way that made it fun and easy to comprehend.

Dr. Drake made history very interesting. Make sure you talk in discussion and really have a grasp on the concepts he elaborates on in class.

10/10 Recommend Drake for HIST 2112. He makes lecture interesting- as for your grade- it's mostly up to your TA but meet them after taking tests and it will help a lot! Not a terribly hard class if you keep up with the readings- missing a couple lectures won't kill your grade

Dr. Drake is an amazing lecturer and is very knowledgeable in history. He assigns a lot of reading and gives somewhat difficult tests with free response questions, but as long as you pay attention in lecture and read you should be fine. Great professor but a difficult grader.

There is definitely a significant work that goes into this class, but if you do the work, you will do well! Dr. Drake is HILARIOUS and will have you laughing aloud every lecture. I am definitely not a history person, but I was engaged in class every day and enjoyed going. There are three non-comprehensive written exams with one essay. RECOMMEND!

Professor Drake is really funny and makes his lectures interesting! The class has a breakout session with a TA where attendance and participation are important. There are three tests for the class, a paper, and your participation grade from the breakout session. All of this is graded by your TA. The tests are essay questions, no multiple choice!

He is a great professor and his tests are all based on his lectures. You can tell he really cares about the subject. He and the TA's are willing to help you if you put effort into the class. His tests are not the easiest but not impossible, just study the lecture notes very well.

Wow. Best class I've ever taken. Dr. Drake tells you everything you need to know in lecture and it's important to write as much as you can down. His tests are incredibly reasonable, but you won't do well if you don't take notes. 3 tests total including the final and a paper. If you want to enjoy your history class, this is your guy.

Dr. Drake is super passionate about the class. He lectures enthusiastically every class and often ends it 10 minutes early. The grade consists of a midterm paper (35%), a final paper (35%), and the rest is just attendance/participation. Come to class as he takes attendance. Should be an easy A if you stay on top of the readings and come to class.

Drake is a great professor. You can tell that he loves what he is teaching and he teaches in a way that you can understand. It is important to go to lecture because he will say things that aren't on his slides. If Drake graded his exams, he would be more lenient but TAs do grade hard depending. We were graded on 3 4-5 page book reviews on one of the 6 books we had the choice to read during the semester along with a 10-12 page final research paper. The books were all good reads. Be intentional with your writing and your research for the paper and you'll do great.

Dr. Drake is a great teacher. His 3073 class has no tests, just papers, and he is a very fair grader. The research paper is actually really fun if you are a history major, and not too stressful. Take this class if you like American history, you wont regret it.

Dr. Drake gives amazing lectures. The honors section of this class is seriously only graded by two essays and participation, so everything is super important. Great class, great professor, definitely be ready to work though. But he makes everything worth it in the end, and you learn so much.

Drake is a really great teacher and a nice guy. You're graded mostly on 3 reading analyses throughout the semester and a research paper at the end. Make sure to do the reading (literally if you have to choose between going to class and reading, read) because everything is based on the readings, which makes his lectures kinda redundant.

Dr. Drake's lectures were interesting, and he is a funny professor who is understanding if you have trouble outside of class. However, if you do not show up to his lectures, you will miss a lot of the info his TAs look for in terms of grading. Be aware that he does not do the grading himselfthe grading is done by TAs with pretty high standards.

The tests are very straightforward, but you have to be able to write very well to recieve a good grade. Everything is graded by your TA, so your grade will depend on how hard they grade you. I didn't feel like going to the lectures impacted my grade because you pretty much have to read the whole textbook to do well on the tests.

Drake gives interesting lectures. He assigns some book reviews and a final research paper. His grading criteria is a little unclear, but he's always available to meet and discuss your grades and answer any questions. He's very entertaining and makes class enjoyable. Would definitely recommend this professor.

Awesome lectures, but be ready to read. At least a chapter assigned each week. Only two assignments- a midterm essay and a final essay. Very long and hard to answer questions, but if you put in the work and use sources, its not too bad. You can really tell Drake loves his job, and hes super nice! Attendance was mandatory.

Dr. Drake was my favorite history professor out of all history professors. He gives amazing, in-depth, and entertaining lectures. He gives you all the information you need to do well in the class, and throws in some funny tidbits throughout. The textbook is necessary for breakout session, and tests are all essay. Doable.

HIST 2112 can't be rated by the professor alone. For Dr. Drake, he was an amazing lecturer and really cared about his students. It was old-school, but effective, and he really did try to make it entertaining. For the class, however, it all depended on your TA. My friend who didn't even buy the textbook got an A, while others got B's no matter what.

Your grade is determined by exams and several short essays. He provides an "outline" and teaches the class off of that. You're expected to make your notes from what you got from the lecture. So if you miss a day of class, all you have is a bunch of bullet points with no supporting details so it's helpful to go to class. And TAs determine the grades

Gives great lectures and if you pay attention you'll understand the material and it's usually really interesting. You have to read the primary documents and attendance isn't mandatory but you will get a SIGNIFICANTLY better grade if you go. The toughness of grading depends on which TA you get.

Dr. Drake is hands down the best history professor I have ever had. He is hilarious and makes the lectures soooo interesting and explains everything really well. Tests are difficult but if you study you'll do great. AWESOME guy

I really loved Dr. Drake! The class is 3 short answer/writing tests and 1 essay. He focuses in on bigger pictures and themes rather than making you memorize people and dates, which made lecture a lot more laid back than trying to remember everything he says. Makes lectures interesting and entertaining. All grades are determined by your TA.

Dr. Drake was an incredible lecturer who make me realize how much I love history, however, the grading solely had to do with your TA. There are only 3 exams and one paper so there's not any free room to screw up. My TA was extremely harsh despite COVID-19 times, and I'm a great writer. Expecting a B even though I attended everything. :/

I seriously LOVE Dr. Drake's lectures. I would definitely say the class(as in the exams)are pretty hard, but definitely doableeven if you don't do the reading( I honestly didn't do any reading). I just took good notes which is easy because he's really enjoyable to listen to. TA's grade everything so whether or not you like that is up to you.

Drake is an awesome professor. His lecture slides are pretty plain and to the point, but he makes up for it with his hilarious stories and overall intriguing speaking. He was always accessible outside of class and so were the TA's. Great class!

Made a good grade but knew friends who did not do so well and struggled for an A-. This course is 1000000% dependent on the TA. Everything you do will be graded by YOUR TA, meaning if you get a bad one it's kinda over. I would not say the class is easy because you really have to put in work for those essays, mine were usually 20+ pages.

100% depends on your TA. Drakes lectures were awesome and easy to follow along with. My TA was awesome and an easy grader. Be prepared to do long tests (10-15 pages double spaced), but you have a week to do them and the TA went over all of the topics asked about on it. Take good notes, read the textbook a little, and youll be good to go.

Professor Drakes's lectures were INCREDIBLE!! However, your grade in this class is totally dependent on how good your TA is. Luckily mine was great. Graded pretty fairly, although a little harder than I first expected, but overall great. If you like history this is the class to take!!

His lectures were great! The tests were extremely long and time consuming but we got a week during the pandemic. HIGHLY depends on your TA, but the exams are hard. (I made just a 90 on all 3) Overall, its graded by very few things, you learn ALOT and you need to search through a ton of stuff to get the info you need. Be organized and start early!

Drake recorded lectures for us then we had weekly group zooms with a TA. The recorded lectures were very interesting and easy to get through. The tests are ROUGH. Do NOT save them for the last day because you will definitely struggle to finish. Saw Drake in actual class once, and he seemed fine there, too.

Dr. Drake is a really great lecturer I enjoy listening to him, and I don't usually enjoy history. His tests are basically just one really long essay, so don't wait until the last minute to do them as I did. Your grade depends on your TA as they are the ones who grade your tests and run discussion groups, mine is pretty good so I expect to pass.

The entire grade was based on 4 papers. He was a relatively hard grader and always seemed to have a specific points he wanted you to hit in the paper, pay attention during discussion to know what to points to focus on. But as someone who is not a fan of history I often zoned out in class. Understanding guy, willing to move deadlines if needed.

Lectures weren't required but definitely helped for writing essays. Discussion sections with your TA are mandatory every week. There were 3 papers worth 25% each and participation (not attendance, actually participating) was worth another 25% of your final grade. How easy it is really comes down to how tough a grader your TA is.

Drake is an excellent lecturer. He does his best to make lectures fun. Be sure to take detailed notes and read the textbook for better understanding. Drake gives you a week to write the paper and provides sources. Your grade depends on the TA so meet with them before the paper is due, so you have a better understanding of what they look for.

I don't find US history particularly interesting, but Prof Drake is pretty funny and easy to listen to. He also doesn't give out busy work which I like. The only grades are 3 papers, which aren't hard as long as you read the textbook. Take his class if you're from Michigan because he is too and loves to talk about it.

Your grade in this class definitely depends on your TA, but Dr. Drake is chill. His lectures are super informative. Maybe a little boring at times, but you're going to be adequately prepared for the exams, which I found to be super easy.

Professor Drake is a really interesting lecturer and you can 100% tell he knows his stuff. I took this class because its a UGA requirement, but he held my attention well throughout the class. However there are only 4 grades in the class. First exam (essay), second exam (essay), third exam (essay), and group discussion attendance/participation.

Drake himself is a great lecturer, but your grade completely depends on your teaching assistant. They made it clear to us that it was going to be very difficult to get an A and for an intro class and being a non history major they grade way too hard. The class is super interesting but its way to hard to get an A.

TA grades everything, so that's just luck of the draw. Exams for this semester were all essays only, but it's not as bad as it sounds. Lectures are pretty much essential, you get all the exam material from the lectures so definitely go to them. Other than that, consult the textbook for the details and honestly, you will be fine.

This class makes you work for an A. You can get way with not going to class and reading the textbook to get a solid B or C but to receive and A, it is important to attend lecture. Drake does a good job at making lectures engaging.

Honestly, I think that your grade really depends on the TA. It was 25% discussion section and the other 75% was split between the 3 papers we wrote which were graded by the TAs. Drake is a great professor, but make the effort to make the connection with your TA.

He extended my deadline for a paper when I asked and he is funny and cares for his students. His lectures were interesting. Three exams involving writing about 8 pages, taken at home and you have a week to do them. My TA was a harsh grader and to very nice so it depends on your TA.

Dr. Drake is a very professional man with a good knowledge of the subject. Drake can go on tangents during his lectures but they are always entertaining and he never causes issues because of it. Brian Drake is an amazing professor! Lectures are engaging and he has a great attitude in class. There are 3 tests including the final that are graded by TA's which are graded really tough. There are also 3 books assigned throughout the course and a final paper. Overall the lectures were amazing but it's difficult to achieve an A.

a great professor with funny lectures that sometimes go off track but you always get something out of them. only complaint about this course was the research paper. it was a bit difficult to tell what to do (no example paper, assignment sheet was released like 4 weeks before it was due) and it was worth 50% of the grade. overall tho pretty good

Dr. Drake is such an awesome guy. I was very engaged and entertained by his lectures. However, the structure of the class makes it difficult to get a good grade. The only grades for the entire semester are 3 exams (essays & short answer identification questions) and a final 7-page research paper. This means if you do bad on 1 test, you're screwed.

There are 3 noncumulative, in class, essay tests, each on a diff book (which you HAVE to read), and a paper. He was aight. I would probably not take his class again, but it was not the worst experience I have ever had. In HIST 4990 the final paper is worth 75% of the grade, so that is a large portion of the grade.

Took Dr. Drake in the fall and he was great. 80% of the grade is made up of five papers about selected readings, but you can choose one to not submit. The rest comes from attendance and participation in discussions over the readings, usually a class or two before each paper is due. Lot of work but he clearly loves history and makes it interesting.

The greatest & most interesting history class I have EVER taken bc of this professor. I was always eager to attend his lectures and learn specific & eye-opening details. 3 Essay Exams. Exams are based on 1 book per exam and about 10 lectures on 1 exam. TAs had to grade to his standards. My first C at UGA but honestly totally worth it too.

Dr. Drake is a really good professor. He will warn you at the beginning of the semester that the average for his class is a C, but I think it is very hard to get a C in his class. If you come to class and do the primary source readings you will be fine. Your grade is made up of 3 tests which are timed essays, and participation in discussion groups.

Dr. Drake is very energetic and I looked forward to every lecture. This class, however, requires lots of preparation for the exams if you want to pull off an A. The exams are timed essays, so make sure you're familiar with most of the primary sources in the textbook for that unit and can connect them with thorough analysis.

He is a GREAT lecturer. The exams were pretty easy if you went to lecture. Your exams are graded by the TA though, so pray you get a good TA. You have to buy the Achieve access to a textbook that is used in discussion. because you get graded on participation in the discussion. He's very approachable and will work with you reschedule exams.

My class grade is dependent solely on my participation in my discussion class and the 3 exams, which seems daunting but if you go to lecture, take decent notes, and look through the sources in the textbook you should do well! I really like Dr. Drake. His history lectures are so informative and entertaining (and I'm not even a history major). The class breaks up into discussion groups on Fridays with a TA, and they are the ones who grade your work. Attendance is not mandatory for the lectures, but it is mandatory for the discussions.

I usually hate History classes but I enjoyed going to his lectures and rarely missed. For being a 300 person class Im surprised I barely ever skipped. I did well in the class. You are supposed to read the textbook in preparation for the exams but I never did. Just go to class and you'll know your shit well enough for an A.

Dr. Drake is your best choice when it comes to US History profs. His lectures are actually pretty interesting, but you do have to read a lot in the textbook. He says that the tests are really hard, but just try your best and reference whatever specific stuff from lecture and you'll do fine. The discussion sections aren't too bad either.

thought his class was gonna be scary at first but its probably the easiest class I'm taking this semester. i never show up to the lectures, just the discussion sections every Friday. the tests are essay styled and extremely easy if you just go to the discussion sections. i studied for about an hour right before each exam and got mid 80s each time

Over the semester, if you take the honors section you will be required to read 5 different books for class disucssion. Normally, I would not have liked this, but the books Dr. Drake picks are engaging and interesting. His lectures are also engaging and easy to follow and it is clear he is super passionate about history. His excitement is awesome.

I would say he had good lectures but the TA's grading is pretty tough. There is absolutely no rounding up(ended the semester with an 89.9). My biggest recommendation is to go to every lecture because it will make the test significantly easier. Tests are 2 essays, no multiple choice. There is easier professors but he's not a bad choice at all.

Dr. Drake is by far a top history prof. He has a a movie voice that is perfect for lectures. TA's make/break your disc, mine sucked but you can power through. Readings r IMMENSE but you can get away w/out doing them & only reading the source docs for tests. Tests are a lot to do in 50 min, n make more sense as you do them. 10000/10 would reccomend!

The class really depends on your TA as you have mandatory discussion sections and they grade all your work. I did not like my TA as he was a harsh grader and difficult to understand.

Dr. Drake is quite literally one of the best lecturers I have had. He makes class so interesting and I definitely learned a ton (I'm a STEM major too). Dr Drake is really great. He makes a larger lecture feel small. He is very entertaining and interesting. He makes history feel more fun than most and is not very heavy on specific dates or names, but rather the overarching concept. His exams and quizes aren't hard, but they are graded by the TAs and don't seem to follow strict grading criteria.

Overall, Dr. Drake was a very knowledgable professor on history and his lectures were great. I am not a fan of the powerpoint slides as they are just made of pictures and there are also pop quizzes. Grading is very strict and hard, but overal course material was not difficult. You can achieve an A, but it is hard. Very nice professor & no homework.

Dr Drake is an AMAZING lecturer, and the content was always interesting. He is not always super clear with attendance or updating the syllabus. However exams are pretty straight forward and based on assigned novels. There is a huge paper worth 50% of your grade, however if prioritized the essay is manageable w/ lots of provided resources.

He came in there on day one and made it seem like no one would pass which got in my head. 3 exams worth 10% (blue book essay, just write as much info as you can), participation is 20%, research paper is 50%. The first test is 25% of your grade but you won't know what your TA is looking for yet. I felt my TA was closed off and difficult to get feedback from. Dr. Drake is an amazing lecturer. Go to class or you will fail test and pop quizzes. Remember sources, names, and dates for the test even if they tell you not to.
