If you want a fun and exciting class, this is the one to take! He makes the time go by so quick. This guy makes the assignments enjoyable. Believe me.. he's awesome!!
Great professor enjoyed this class my favorite class interesting and excited class and he is a really nice young professor. No cell phones. Highly recommended

definitely the best prof. makes class fun, so much that you actually want to go. assignments do challenge a little, but they're fun to do. you won't regret taking him
He's very nice, and tries to be funny be sure to laugh at his jokes. he thinks hes still 20 which makes him a fun teacher. his tests arent so hard and he gives a nice curve. as long as you talk and participate he'll like you and you'll do well.
Who needs to pay attention to him when he looks sooooo good! Who can possibly focus. Damn, I gotta figure out how many other classes he's teaching so that i can take them~ L.N
Dunphy rules, best teacher I've had.
dunphy rules. the course material is pretty easy, if that is what you're looking for, but he will challenge you in other ways.. you will learn more from him than many. universities need more teachers like him.
A great teacher, very interesting, great class -definitely worth taking.
I LOVE PROF DUNPHY! He's funny, interesting, smart and always looking for ways to make class interesting. READ or he gets upset!!! His assignments are fun and you would never want to be absent because the hwole time you'll be laughing in class. His tests are hard if you DONT READ!!! HE IS AWESOME!
HE IS NOT A GOOD TEACHER. HE HAS NO IDEA ABOUT HOW TO TEACH. HIS EXAMS ARE HARD. HE EXPACTES YOU TO KNOW EVERYTHING WITHOUT REVIEVING MATERIALS. TOO MUCH CHAPTERS TO STUDY AND LESS TIME FOR EXAM. hE TALKES TO MUCH. HIS LANGUAGE IS HARD TO UNDERSTAND. I REMEMBER WHAT HE SAYS IAM THE GOD OF THIS CLASS NO YOU ARE NOTHING EXCUSE ME FOR MY LANGUAGE BUT

Dunphy is a great professor! Has keen knowledge on the subject and holds interesting class discussions. I definitely recommend this class.P.S read the assigned readings or he will get mad and give you a pop-up-quiz!
Hey iam talking to those who are concerning to take this teacher please dont ruin your academic life! he is not good looking his exams are hard. he thinks he is the Godof this class which is not true!!! so students are more concerned about his looking cause they need sex
He is hard on his students but for the first time i felt like i actually learned something. He is so funny and classes are never boring. There is a good amount of work involed but he is understanding. I would take him again for another class!!!!
What can I say about this guy! He has to be one of my favorite professor in this entire school. I mean, he actually cares about what you say, do, and write. I wished this college would have more people like him. Dunphy, ur the man! what can I say.
stay away definately you wont regret it. some students are wrong about him. his teaching method is horrible make you sleep not teaching at whole hard quizes and exams dont ruin ur academic life!
He's obviously intelligent on the subject matter, although his conceited personality negates any of his intelligence. He constantly talks about himself and makes horrible jokes. Is very rude. He's obsessed with the fact that someone called him arrogant which makes him even more arrogant and he will be reading this shortly I am sure. Do not recommen
Would be good if he was not the most conceited person ever, for what reason he is I am not sure...
UGGGGHHHH he is sooo annoying, this class is the worst class I have taken at Brooklyn College to date. He is so full of himself and seems to get sick pleasure out of being a complete jerk. Not to mention he takes this class WAY to seriously. My midterms for my very hard classes were easier and more straightforward than his exams which are torturous
I DESPISE HIM! Every thing he does/says makes my skin crawl. He should quit while hes ahead and just go home and watch movies. The world doesn't deserve this punishment of having him out in public.
I don't know what you people are talking about!! He is possibly one of the best professors walking around this school. And you guys are slamming him bcuz he gave u a preview of what the industry is. Folks, if mass media is not for you, please save yourself the trouble of being in this class. But don't blame Dunphy, he is simply a pro's pro. SC.
Hey, he taught me what I needed to know and gave me the confidence in pursing broadcast journalism as a major. Like the comment b4, if you have no back bone, then don't choose this class. You will be expected to work, four 4-page papers and three tests. But don't be disappointed if he is not an easy "A"
he is ****in awsome and he looks like rob schneider. He is really funny and makes the class incredibly enjoyable. You can talk to him about anything, one of my best professors so far.
He is really awsome, one of the best professors i had. He is very helpful and just one of the funniest people.I definitely suggest taking him, he makes the class interesting, and if you don't get his sarcastic humor or you are really uptight, i suggest finding someone else. He's not too bad looking either. Oh, and he has a GREAT music taste.
Oh you whining americans! why are you in school? Prof. Dunphy is one of the best professor's i've had. He's opinionated (which everyone should be), he encourages thoughtful discussions, and he makes a heartfelt attempt to awaken us from our sad, dreamy state of consciousness by generating awareness! Prof. Dunphy rules!
this class was ok but not ideal. The prof was kind of nice but had a major ego and ive never seen someone so conceited. Also he doesnt teach anything from the book and u are prety mcuh on ur own for the exams. he needs to brush up on some politcs because hed say some really stupid things that he thought profound but i didnt have the heart to argue
just so everyone knows, these ratings are pretty useless since he writes his own comments on these pages. and while the guy is kinda nice if ppl think hes hot then they need a vison test. he looks like an uglier version of Paul Giamatti
IF YOU WANT TO GET A C TAKE HIS CLASS THATS THE ONLY GRADE YOU WILL GET BECAUSE. HE WON'T APPRECIATE THE GREAT WORK YOU HAD DONE FOR HIS CLASS IF YOU DONT BELIEVE ME TRY AND SEE HIM THEN DONT BE UPSET BECAUSE THATS ALL I CAN SAY
hard class for the level it is supposed to be. but you can learn from him.
you pretty much get what you deserve in the class,so dont expect to b.s around and do well. the problem i had was that his t.a is absolutey not qaulified to mark papers as she is a student just like the rest of us and it shoud be the profs job also for a media class this guy was insanely biased and the whole term was an obama lovefest(loser)
Uggh! I'm assuming that most of you who took his mass media class were Freshman? Those of you who had a bad thing to say about this guy, I have just one thing to say. WELCOME TO COLLEGE IDIOTS! You probably did nothing in his which led you to get the grade you received. He is one of the best professors in BC, you'll soon realize that!
I find it equally hilarious and pathetic that 1/2 of these comments were made by Prof. Dunphy himself. This was my last semester of BC and his class was my worst to date. His lack of class and professionalism was shocking. Worst Prof at BC on every level. Please take my word for it, don't take him EVER.
he said in class that he writes comments about himself on the site. ever wonder why it was fishy that most of the postive reviews say "dunphy rules" hes not very creative
stay away very hard exams not teaching at all
GREAT PROF !!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!! HELPED ME OUT A LOT !!!

you will regret if you take him. he doent teach at all
you will have many chapters to study for his class. he skips everything and want you to know in the exam. do not expect any help from him cause he is more concerned about finishing the chapters at once then you are responsible from them in your exams. exams are hard and you will have a very little time to study for it!
He is a great professor. Everyone is just made because they expecteed A's and didnt get them because they didnt do the work. I loved him and I learned a lot about him, and sure i worked my butt off but I got my A. He is nice, he let me retake the final when I got a panic attack. He's awesome and if you want to learn something take him!
Not easy, Not hard. Read and you'll be fine. Need help? he'll answer if he can/wants to and if your question is not retarded. tests are a piece of cake if you bother to read the summary in the back of every chapter. Learned a lot.
Not a class for the illiterate, or lazy. Essays are graded fairly, and he rewards improvement.
Prof Dunphy is hilarious. I laugh every time I'm in his class and I love it. I look forward to mass media every week. He is extremely fair and entertaining. Do the reading! He doesn't cover too much of the book material but who wants to hear everything they just read? You gotta STUDY and put effort into your papers. You'll enjoy his class!
okay so im on here looking at ratings so i can register for spring and this is inaccurate DUNPHY is one of the BEST professors at Brooklyn College and He is very helpful the people who complained are Lazy this is College ****s
HE IS SUCH A GREAT TEACHER!!!!!!!!!!! his classes are very interesting, dinamic and live!!!!He IS A LOT OF FUN!!!!HE MAKES JOKES ALL THE TIME!!! i loved being on his class!!! you ll never regret!!!!
he is terrible teaches nothing givec alot of C'S AND DOESNT APPRECIATE THE HARD WORK THAT THE STUDENTS GAVE FOR HIS CLASS AND ALSO RATE HIMSELF HERE ... VERY TERRIBLE AND VERY NONSENSE TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD TEACHED NOTHING AND BOTHERS OTHER TEACHERS WHEN THEY ARE TEACHING IN THEIR CLASS I CANT STAND HIM HE IS WORSE
He's funny but full of himself, but it makes for a really interesting class. He's young but he's also experienced a lot in his life. The tests were pretty hard, but the papers were easy - he's more interested in grammar, but the papers (reviewing albums and movies) were so interesting and enlightening, and taught me what makes a movie good.
Serious made me look forward to Thursdays. Every class was a riot. He's hilarious. Read the textbook and the test will be easy. He asks you to commit and rewards hard work when you do. I wished he teached every TVR class. If your reading this YOU'RE THE BEST DUNPHY!!
He is a great teacher! He makes jokes all the time, and makes the class really interesting. His tests get harder close to the end of the semester, but I think he is extremely fair with grades.
HE is funny. He loves his subject which in turn makes you love it. Just read the chapters come to class ,do his 4 papers and 3 tests and YOU WILL BE FINE! make sure he participates... i think he is more lenient with a student whose name he can match with a face. You'll like this man. This class is not 'heavy' at all.good elective to lighten up load
Excellent, if you have no academic standards.
Prof.Dunphy is the best teacher. He is very helpful and he makes you want to learn. If you ever look back on the teachers you have had, he would def. be a teacher to remember. He is a very fair grade and wants all his students to do well. Not only is he a teacher, but he is a friend as well. Let's just say i am going to miss him as my teacher!
if you can get past his egomania, you may actually enjoy this class. (i guess his ego makes up for what he lacks in height.) he definitely keeps you awake and makes class interesting, but his opinion is often dragged in when it isn't at all necessary. he works you hard (with fair warning), but rewards you for your efforts.
He's intelligent, funny and incredibly hot...what esle do you need to know.
I told Dunphy that i was on academic probation in the beginning of the semester and he really inspired me to work hard and finish what needs to be done. His papers are fun and his test are a bit rough but if you study and do the readings, you will pass with a good grade!
He is an excellent teacher! I was looking forward to Thursday all the time. He motivates you to know more, work better, be better... you will never fall asleep during his class. I highly recommend to take his class. And all these guys who complain here are just lazy and don't want to work at all. I have a question for them: "Why do you study at all
Not a good teacher has an opinion about everything. His tests are hard and he thinks that this class should be taught everywhere but it is plain old boring. I would rather have taking a math class.
I took a night class with dunphy so he was lenient.. 2 tests ,final and paper. his biggest problem is that he is VERY VERY biased..He is one sided and shows clips on his views..
he's a really smart professor and his class goes by extremely quickly. i didn't really like him at first because he treats everyone like children and sometimes his work load is TOO much. this is a class where you have to work for a good grade but it isn't impossible. after a while he grew on me and he wasn't so bad.
a ton of work and useless studying because his tests have nothing to do with what your studying ...no time to study and again a crap load of work papers hw tests annoying
I had him for a class on South Park. He is funny and laid back but he gives way too much work! The reading was too much! And he gave a 15-20 page paper at the end. He's a cool guy but don't be fooled, he's no joke when it comes to work. You will have to work hard for your grade.
Where should I start!! I did not like him at first but he eventually grew on me. He knows his stuff but he is too full of himself! Very Bias!!! TREATS YOu LIKE your in High school!!! Class was always interesting. He always gave too much work!!!
not really that good. has the ability to be the best prof in bc but he just cant pull it off. hes like a sports prospect who has one major weakness to prevent him from being good. other than that, he should give more time to students rather than just relying on tas to do so.takes the fun out of interesting topics and just sucks the life out of it
I do not know what any of these people are talking about! Prof Dunphy is an AMAZING prof hes funny and makes a what could be boring subject into something really interesting. If you are looking to get an A without doing anything then no hes not for you but do the work and you'll do great
A funny, fair minded guy. However, about 40% of class time was spent lauding Jon Stuart and then offhandedly ridiculing right wing/republican/ conservatives. Dunphy is a liberal and it shows. Republicans be warned, I left every class feeling angry and vaguely wronged.
The class itself was interesting but his tests are basically comprised of information that is taken straight from the textbook. Be sure to read ALL of it, because some of the questions are based on seemingly "insignificant details". Other than that, this class was pretty much laid-back and enjoyable. If you make an effort, it will pay off.
Great professor, interesting and knows how to facilitate an interesting discussion. Will grade harshly if you do not meet his demands. But overall a really smart guy who will make you look forward to his class every week. I HIGHLY recommend him for everyone, does not matter which major you are in.
Professor Dunphy is an amazing teacher, and he makes the class so interesting but you must really dedicate yourself. My experience in his class was great I just feel that if youre not a serious student, that's not the class for you. Wish I could have a professor like him for all my subjects.
Prof Dunphy is a great professor. He is always looking at popular culture with a new perspective and has the uncanny ability to connect the present and the past. He shows us a lot of relevant material, and while the class was a lot of work, I also had a great time. He keeps us laughing, guessing, and arguing with eachother the whole time.
Along with all the positive comments that were posted before me, I must say that this is THE BEST PROFESSOR IN BROOKLYN COLLEGE. AND ONE OF THE BEST CLASSES YOU WILL EVER TAKE. Not an easy A, but if you work for it, you will catch on on how to do well. Great guy, fun class, down to earth guy you will ever encounter in any college. Take him!!!!!!
Wow! What a great professor! He's not easy, so if you're not interested, don't take the class but he's just amazing. He knows EVERYTHING. He's a little more to the "left" so if you're a starch conservative you might not like everything he has to say. Really fair. Work hard, and it pays off. I promise.
Didn't hate him, didn't love him. A little arrogant but you will learn a lot ifyou work hard.the class is fun and he is funny :) there's A LOT of work
By far the best class I've taken at this college so far. He is firm but fair and he pushes you to do your best. It's an eye opening and engaging course that I would recommend this class to anyone regardless of Major.
He has a awesome personality. Really flexible guy. The speech he gave on the last day of class...personally, i think it was moving. I don't regret taking this class because everything is just straight-forward. His exams are fair and he's a fair grader. And if you do take this class, don't take him for granted. He may be cool but he's still yur prof
He is a confident, entertaining and competent teacher. His class is easy as long as you do all the readings and work hard. He is a nice guy and willing to help, if you asked him.
He comes off a little conceited and just negative in general. He did present us with interesting movies, documentaries and articles, I'll give him that. His tests are easy, all you have to do is read the text and your notes and your golden. I wouldn't recommend taking his class, though, he can be very rude and obnoxious.
Well what can i say about this prof. He is the best prof i ever had. Learned many things from him, funny straightforward, confident, knowledgeable, and helpful.Listen to him and you'll get out of his class satisfied for what you have paid for. I like how he involves the current events in the discussion,& make the students engaged in the discussion.
Before taking this class I have heard about prof. dunphy. I only heard good thing and everything that was so true. He makes you very intersted in the subject. This was the best class of my semester! He is really strict about deadlines and the textbook is much needed! If you are going to take this course, MAKE SURE HE IS THE PROFESSOR!
One of the best professors I've ever taken. He makes this class interesting even when learning about the boring stuff. I would recommend this class to anyone and everyone, elective or not. His lectures are easy, the projects are fun and as long as you read the texts, you'll ace the class. (This is all coming from someone who was a TA for the class.
Dunphy is a cool professor. He makes the subject interesting, you definitely need the textbook. Its used every class & the tests are straight from the book. Make sure you stick to the blog deadlines & use spell check. Participate and you'll be fine.
He's a cool guy. He makes class interesting and jokes around a lot. My 3 hour class felt like it was a lot shorter. Just read the textbook, do not make spelling mistakes, do not fall asleep or look at your cell phone during class, and meet deadlines. Very enjoyable class.
Although he is a tough nut to crack, he is a very passionate teacher who will always meet you half way so long as you meet him. Do the work and you shall succeed.
He is one of the best Mass Media professor BC has. He helps students the most he can. It is mandatory to read the book. I love his class he is not boring at all. If you do your job you would not have problem with Professor Dunphy because he is cool.
He's actually an excellent professor, one of my very favorite and I was only a freshman student at the time. He's also very open to office hours and very willing to help. Great personality and enthusiastic way of life, will make you a better person at the end of the semester. Highly recommend, one of the best professors at Brooklyn College.
Excellent professor. really makes that three hours feel like its only one hour. You don't have to read the book every week but all his exams come directly from the book and are fairly easy. Just do your work and you'll get a good grade.
Great professor. Keeps the students up and utilizes the time he has in class very sparingly. Always makes sure that you get all the info you need and provides you with an email that he always checks to help you with whatever it is you need, well anything you need from his class.
Worst teacher i ever had. I am a highly motivated student who still barely passed his class. He is a lecture proffesor who just gives out work and dosen't care about the students or "failing them". Avoid taking. You will be overwhelmed with work as he sends u them sometimes the day b4 there due. Very diffiucalt class
Dunphy is the funniest, most entertaining professor ever. His lectures fly by, and I always look forward to them. He knows a lot about his subject, and cares a lot too. For his tests, you HAVE TO READ THE BOOK. His lectures will not be enough. His class is a lot of work, but it's worth it, because you learn so much. A lot of work, but not difficult
Do not take!! He is a VERY tough grader and he expects way too much! He gives tons of homework and blogs at least once a week. i am usually an A student but i got a B in his class, and i did all my work and got 90's on his tests. He gives pop quizzes and a chapter of reading every week. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
This man is the greatest. I had him during a really hard time in my personal life and he did NOT fail me when he really should have. He is inspiring and moving and you will learn so much from him! DO NOT underestimate the work load! Loved him and wished I could have experienced this class the way he intended his students too.
Fantastic Professor! He gives ALOT of homework, though. The homework isn't hard. It's fun and interesting but very long. Make sure to read the stuff he asks you to read. He likes to give pop quizzes. Very funny. You'll learn alot from him. The answers to the questions he gives on his tests are all in the txtbook, so don't be lazy and read the book
Professor Dunphy is, by far, one of the best professors I have had so far, and this is only my freshman year! I came into the class interested in media and I walked out of class every Wednesday, enlightened to the brim. He is such a dedicated professor--his speech at the end of class said it all. Read the book, pay attention, have fun. There's an A
Loved him. He is so dedicated and loves what he does. There is a lot of work - constant blog assignments, blog projects, 3 tests, and reading. Bt totally worth it.
He's funny and a bit annoying at times. Class was interesting, you have to do the readings and study each chapter to be prepared for the exams. It's all straight from the textbook. Beware! There are a lot of assignments.
Professor Dunphy is the man. If you're lazy, don't care about the major, or a bad student... Don't take the class, you'll complain. If you're motivated, excited about the industry, and can do your work you won't be disappointed.
This professor is absolutely hilarious! He's brilliant and will always have a joke or story to tell. His lectures are on modern things and are fun.
Dunphy is cool. Animated, and sarcastic but cool. Do your work and he'll be the best, don't and you'll FAIL. Point blank. hashtagNOEXCUSES
Dunphy is an okay professor. He is somewhat witty but tends to be very into himself. Not much homework is given but there are a lot of projects. They arent hard just time consuming. The tests are impossible. I studied for hours and still did mediocre. I don't recommend him.
Professor Dunphy is the best I've ever had. His personality might seem a little bit overbearing. However, I have never met someone so dedicated to his work and to helping students. His classes are worth all the work because I have learned an overabundance of information.. and it was not boring! He is the reason I decided to pursue TV/RAdio. 10/10
this guy is a narcissist very good at what he does but too involved with himself. very hard grader but overall he knows how to keep the class focused.
Dunphy is THE funniest guy I have ever met. There is never a dull moment in his class! His lectures are extremely effective & he puts all the information into perspective. The work isn't hard! Turn your work in on time, make sure it's coherent and organized, read the book, and you'll pass with flying colors! You have to try very hard to fail.
There is NEVER a dull moment in professor Dunphy class. He always makes class interesting and fun. He is very serious about his craft and that's shown through out the class. Simply put you do the work you get a good grade, you don't do the work you don't you get a bad grade. He will tell you this the 1ST day of class.
The funniest professor that you could have. I'll consider him the "Kevin Hart" of Brooklyn College, thats how funny he is. I took him my freshmen year at Brooklyn College and I remember asking an extension for a blog and he told me "Tough luck. Welcome to college." This just goes to show that he's tough but a fair grader. Just read the textbook.
Don't miss a class. Read the text book. Go to Mcgraw Site and take practice exam after you read every chapter. It will help you study. Teacher is funny and fair. I missed assignments and class thats why I got a low grade. I still learned alot. If you are serious about your major then you will enjoy this class.
Nice guy but he HAS to like you or you're doomed. Participate in class, do the work and study from the textbook and you will get an A, he will tell you that day one. PS- he recycles tests from previous semesters. His personality takes a bit to get used to but he's a great teacher.
His class is a great college class because you have to do the work, yet it's also a lot of fun. Hes a fun guy and is so good at lecturing because he keeps it interesting with jokes but he makes you think. But the big thing in this class is read, read, read. You really just have to keep up on the work. Loved this class, great professor.
One of BC's best. Be prepared to do the assignments and show up to class. Tests are straight from the textbook material but not hard if you're prepared. You won't regret taking him.
Reading the textbook is a must for the quiz, which I really wasn't good at because I didn't study or read it but just based on the lectures I got a B+ for an overall grade. His lectures are never boring and he engages you completely. You do have to make blog post but I enjoyed doing it. He's actually the reason why I'm minoring in TV&R !
He's an alright professor, not the best. His lectures are good. The only way you can pass is if you read, read, read, and read. He would put you in the spot too, so watch out?
So funny! Participate in class and do all the readings even though there are a lot of them. "Pop" quizes that he warns you about on advance by email and 3 tests over the semester. You'll learn a lot about the media and how it plays a role in daily life. Discussions on current events keep the class interesting.
Great Professor. Super interesting and funny. Promotes a lot of good discussion and interesting thought in class. Blog posts every 2 weeks were annoying but not that bad. He does promote his book a bit throughout the semester
He claims that "He is the most laid back person you will ever meet?" He is not. He is very bipolar one min. he is making the class die with laughter the next will be him screaming at a student, cares about lateness he will call you out if you are late! It is so embarrassing. 3-4 pop quizzes, 3 test, blog post ever week. Alot of work! but I learned
He's extremely funny, no denying that. Just because I did very well in his class doesn't mean I think he's a great professor. He considers himself "laid back" but it's totally the opposite. He's quite a drama queen. Whatever you do, don't show up to his class late! Overall, you'll Learn a lot, but I would not recommend him to anyone.
Attendance is number one and homework is number two. Participation is not a grade killer but helps a lot. Makes jokes a lot and it's corny but gets down to business when needs to be. Keep up with the work and work with a partner is needed! Pretty fair grader and if you ask for help and show interest he will do all he can!
You watch a lot of videos and he's funny but the workload can be rediculous. Hw every week, some weeks have double. Makes you buy a textbook & his book. Readings from both every week. 3 tests. First is 50 multiple choice, second 75 & final 100. straight from the textbooks but could literally be anything. One + is you can do up to 3 extra credits.
Get ready to read indeed. Get ready to write every week. You will work hard but you will learn a lot. His lectures are not boring but his work is very time consuming. I made it work, I am pretty sure I had gotten at least an A-
One of the best professors I've ever had. I took his intro to mass media class as an elective and now I'm in the TVR major. He really cares about all his students. The class was interesting, tests were tricky unless you REALLY read the book. If you have the chance to take a class with him, DO IT. You won't regret it.
Dunphy is a little into himself. He is pompous and egotistical. With that being said, his class is pretty basic and is doable. Take if you must, it won't be the end of the world.
Professor Dunphy is great - he's really funny and his classes are very entertaining. You have to do a blog post every week - they take some time but they're easy. There are 3 exams - you'll have to read the book in order to pass - and he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. As long as you do the work you should be able to get an A
He cares and is here for you but you have to do the work and show up.
Good Luck taking his class. You will end up being in 6 groups and he's not organized at all. Will have you make a fantasy network yeah sounds cool, but if he doesn't watch the shows you pick he's going to think your network sucks. He wants you to focus on 100 assignments at once
He is a great professor, and knows what he is talking about. It's definitely the one class I have where I look forward to learning because he makes a three hour lecture interesting and funny. You'll have to work for your grade, but it isn't extremely hard work.
After disclosing my disabilities to him I haven't been treated nicely. Dunphy can be a real jerk in class, he either likes your or not. He would ignore some students hands raised, shames you if you don't understand something, and tends to favor white, male, students. He gives a ton of work, and doesn't explain assignments clearly.
He's the best professor I've ever had. If you can put together all the information I learned from other professors, I've learned the most from him. I had him for an 8 hour class once and I wasn't bored at all. He's extremely smart and you will learn a lot. He gives out a lot of readings and shows to watch, but it's worth what you will learn in clas
Thinks he's the chilliest teacher when actually is very uptight. The readings are boring, if you are late you fail even if it's by 3 minutes! Blog posts are a drag and he gets fussy with his work. Will ignore you if he doesn't like you. Lecture is okay. Avoid him if you aren't a media major because it's simply boring in that class. Never again!!
He's knows what he is saying but one of the major downfalls of his class is the amount of work. He gives blogs every week which are easy but very time consuming. One of the major issues I have with him is that he makes you buy his book but only use it three times this whole semester. His tests are easy if you read very carefully.
He is awesome! Yes he gives a lot of work- reading and blogs BUT its actually very interesting and relevant not only to the class but to what is going on in todays world. He is extremely knowledgable & funny.. You actually learn from him, he engages you in convos and makes you really think about the topics. If you do the reading you'll be fine!
You absolutely MUST buy the textbooks! Weekly blog posts make up 30% of the grade, but he's a solid lecturer and fair grader. one of the funniest professor's I've taken. Very respectful, willing to meet with you out of class. Won't take BS - expects you to deliver! Don't take if you want an easy A, do take if you want to actually learn something
Really enjoyed Prof Dunphy! He's super chill but don't let that fool you because if you don't do your reading and blog assignments you'll fail the class. His lectures are always interesting. Do the reading because it is very important for the exams in the class and the blogs must be done. And keep your phone away because he'll gladly point you out
Do the blogs! Thats 30% of your grade. Read the chapters! He gives pop quizzes. Study for the tests or else he'll give you more pop quizzes. He's an extremely fair professor and really nice but not if you don't do the work. Participate, and make sure he knows your name, it'll help you. But do the blogs!! Easiest way to fail is not doing the blogs!
Great course with a great professor. Lectures were interesting and didn't feel like they were three hours long. Be prepared to read the textbooks to ensure good test grades. Do his weekly blogs and you'll do just fine.
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO THIS MAN IS LIKE A DUDE THAT CAN BE YAR FRIEND HE IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FUNNY AND INTERESTING AND HIS CLASS IS ENJOYABLE JUST STUDY AND DO BLOGS AND YOURE IN GOOD SHAPE LIKE A SQUARE OR A RECTANGLE LOL DUNPH!!!!!!!!!! LOVE YOU BRO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I took him for the Introduction to Mass Media; this was an elective class. There are weekly blogs and 3 exams. He also gives many extra credit opportunities. If you talk to him he is very open and understanding about any issues that may come up throughout the semester. He makes the class and material fun and memorable. I would highly recommend him!
Dunphy gives a really entertaining lecture and thoroughly explains his slides. However, almost everyone fails the quizzes. The test are given out in a elementary order: people who get 90s or higher get their first, then 80s +,then everyone who passess. The people who fail wait last and stay for a talk .Test lean on the fair to difficult side
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN FILM TAKE ANY CLASS WITH DUNPHY. The most in depth enthusiastic film teacher, he loves what he teaches and it shows. He has changed the way I view film and genuinely wanted me to succeed. One of the best teachers at fanshawe.
Amazing teacher!! Hysterically funny , if you have his class as a lecture, even 3+ hours, you'll feel entertained the whole time since he is like a stand up comedian/ teacher. Passionate about his work and you can tell, which makes you care more about what is being taught. Probably the best professor I've had at Brooklyn college thus far.
Terrible!
Don't take this professor. He would make you feel stupid if you don't understand the work he is giving. He would tell you that you don't belong in college if you don't perform well in his ridiculously hard test! Most of the class fails his test!
He isn't too much of a bad teacher, I personally didn't like how egotistical and how hard his tests got. The thing that annoyed me was he would talk about his 6yo nephew taking the test he gave us and he passed and half the class didn't. You will read the entire textbook he gives you, do the blogs, participate, be on time, and study and you'll pass
He's good. Just do your part.
This class is best if you actually want to work in the industry. Dunphy is very passionate, and his massive workload is justified because he's preparing students to work hard in the field. Very engaging, but if you don't show that you're paying attention, he won't go easy on you.
Straightforward professor but at the same time caring. Get ready to do lots of homework and work with groups. YOU MUST HAND ALL ASSIGNMENTS ON TIME!! He hates lateness and he will count every single thing. You'll probably have 2-3 assignments due in one-day before class starts. It's stressful but his purpose is to get you ready for T.V/RAD world.
Okay so Dunphy is the most memorable professor ive had. Hes a great guy like Id totally be homies w him but his class is no joke yall. He really helped me as a confused freshman get a look about my career choices. THAT TEXTBOOK IS YOUR BIBLE. Im not the best test taker and if ur not do that extra credit and really make your blog unique!
THE PRINTING PRESS! Exams are hard. Blog!I highkey cried when I passed because I took 17 creds in total that semester and was having a britney spears 2006 moment so I recommend NOT doing that and taking 15 or less when u have him. I also love that he brought @thedailylit to class to speak. That really helped me in helping choose what I want to do.
Do NOT recommend!!!! Professor Dunphy gives a lot of homework and no matter how much effort you put into the blogs it is never sufficient. test are straight from the textbook so get ready to READ!!!!!!!
You grow to love this one. Read the textbook, there will be pop quizzes. Comes off as horribly mean at first but eventually you realize he is just trying to prepare you to work harder later on. Work for it.
Hes a cool guy. Very funny. Going to class felt like going to a standup comedy show. Highlight of my week. He assigns a lot of writing but its interesting and allows you to express your own opinions. The Exams are hard. Especially if you dont read. Read everything in the textbook chapters. Do the Extra Credit! Take him but dont expect an easy A
The biggest class I ever attended. Professor Dunphy doesn't know every student's skills by heart. Of course it would be difficult for him remember and know 100's of people, so then a the ended you ended up with a bad grade. Plus he has assistants for grading our works, that didn't even work. Nobody knows nobody in conlusion. Never again take that.
Worst Professor ever, he doesn't care about his students, he only care about his rules and regulations.
I took 4 classes on fall semester, the work pressure he gave me was equall to other 3 classes. Every week a long blog, I got so much mental pressure because of his class. Please dont take him if you dont have enough time.
Please please don't take his class. He doesn't give any review, test are very very tough. He doesn't know how to teach.
Too much work for no reason
Easily one of my favorite professors my first year at Brooklyn College. Lectures were amazing, funny and relevant. He is heavily dependent on making exams textbook based, so definitely constantly be up to date on readings as he occasionally also gives pop quizzes. Assigns chapters every meeting as well as watching films and writing blogposts.
It's not that he's difficult, just too many assignments to keep up with.
Here's the low down: professor Dunphy's awesome. His teaching style is completely his own- he is funny as hell, open-minded, and interactive. You'll never be bored in his class, and the more you participate, the more he'll like you. With all that being said, he is a little all over the place. He's not very good at explaining assignments.
You have a weekly blog post which honestly isn't too bad but his exams and pop quizzes were all textbook based and not what he talked about in class. I felt very overwhelmed my freshman year but his discussions were nice and he was interesting to listen to in a huge lecture hall.
Professor Dunphy is someone who knows what he's talking about, however he is very critical especially when you don't follow his directions, it's a really good class to take if you're trying to get into television writing, but not only that he goes into a lot more. Get ready to write scripts, like a lot.
If you are interesting in pursuing a career/ degree in TVRA/JAMS, it would benefit you greatly to get close to Prof. Dunphy. Not only are his classes hilarious and HELLA interesting, Dunphy wants to hear what you have to say- he wants you to speak up. You can quite obviously see how you grew in his class once looking back from the end. TAKE.
This man is a riot. You'll love his personality and he'll love you if you share yours. couldn't recommend him higher, absolutely take him.
Funny, personable and will always give you the benefit of the doubt! Best professor in Brooklyn College!!
You'll learn more from his class than any other class in BC. He wants you to engage with different points of view, and he absolutely wants you to share what you have to think. Very interesting material. He's also really funny, so that's a plus.
He gives short amount of times for quizzes. 10 questions weekly and only 7 minutes to respond. His TA's are just as confused as us about the assignments and dates. He doesn't let students talk much during class when there is a problem to be discussed about the course. Go for another professor.
this man is just so annoying. I would rather step into on coming traffic than sit in his class ever again. He made us buy his book for no reason, stole all his slides from online and tested us on the dumbest parts of all his lessons. Do you want to watch ur GPA crumble bc of an elective? take him. if you get below a B as a TVRA major he fails u btw
Fun class!
You have to work but that's college. He's funny and cares. Will give you the benefit of the doubt.
Dunphy is a solid choice if you want to learn more about media and what it has to offer Please be wary of actually doing the readings because he has given us quizzes based on the chapters, and put effort into your blog assignments (be timely, make sure it is grammatically correct and thorough) Solid teacher, do not be afraid to reach out to him
-Dismissive -Can be very rude - Long blogs due every Thurs at 2 pm SHARP final blog at 9 am. All very weird timing - Long boring chapters -Pop quizzes -Doesn't post grades - Shows favoritism - Gives off big narcissist energy - don't ever challenge his thinking (he is always right, apparently) But the pods are great!
If you actually want to take a course where the professor cares about whats they are teaching then Brian is the guy. His course is not an easy A however it preps you for real life. Deadlines are everything. DONT BE LATE! Weekly blog post and weekly lectures. He has about 3-4 quizzes on the chapters. Be prepared to participate!
Pop quizzes really are the problem. You will have to self study, he does not notify what will be on the quizzes so you will just have to study the entirety of it. He does not grade his own stuff, his TA does not help and makes things very difficult to get feedback. The papers are tedious, but can be done. Overall, MID...
I don't really understand the bad ratings. He gives ample time for each written blog and there shouldn't be any reason you submit it late. On top of that, he supplies you with all the materials needed. Our textbook was free and the movies required for the blogs were also free because he provides you with links to access them. 4 quizzes-easy, too.
Terrific professor. Really knowledgeable with interesting lectures. I admire his expertise on South Park and satire as a whole and enjoyed taking many of his classes. I would definitely recommend him to anyone. As long as you do the work, come to class on time, study hard, and participate, you will do well. Great professor!
Of all the professors I have had during my time at Brooklyn College, I have never had a more politically partisan lecturer than this one. EXTREMELY vocal about his left-wing political views and misrepresents information to his students. He often brings up his subjective political views during lectures that have nothing to do with politics.
Horrible and extremely biased. Expresses weird political opinions and excuses pedos and other conservative men because "there's no proof". Says a lot of things that can get him in trouble. Weird with grading and asks for too much as if we have nothing going on except his class. Extremely passive aggressive as well. Don't recommend!!!
I really want to dislike Professor Dunphy, but unfortunately, I can't. Despite how often I disagree with him, it's clear he has a genuine passion for teaching (and the ego boost that comes with lecturing 100 students). Never a dull moment, except for all the dull moments.
Great professor. If you have the chance to take him, do it. I've been in this school for three years he's one of the best professors I've had, Hands down.
