Horrible.
he's the most AMAZING teacher alive! He's what I want to be when I grow up! What a cool guy
My favorite prof so far, without question
What an amazing professor! Absolutely the greatest guy and really interesting. I never want to miss a class because he is just fascinating to listen to.
he's awesome
Totally amazing. He brought so much enthusiasm and energy to the material. His hands on approach by showing us PERSONAL footage of all the animals just shows how into his subject matter he is. Really refreashing prof. Just make sure you study.
His classes were overflowing with interesting facts, personal observations and enthusiasm - an excellent prof!
Best teacher Ever
Very enthusiastic, but puts his own spin on things.
what a great class (Keating's portion anyways), amazing video footage
He's the most amazing man in the world.
Awesome Prof! Brings enthusiasm and humor to every class. He shows lots of great home footage of his own wildlife adventures. He makes you want to go out and save the environment at the end of each class.
What an amazing prof and human being...he is passionate about everything in life!! He brings this passion to every class and his footage that you get to watch is AMAZING!!...he really makes you want to go out and discover this world. Everyone should take a class from him, or go and listen to him talk - he will change your life! BEST PROF!!
Best prof i ever had and this was my option class. He knows everything about everything and has the home videos to prove it.
I loved coming to his class, he was always so nice to me when I had a question. A very comforting atmosphere to learn in. I would of preferred him teaching the whole course intead of just half the course but for what he taught it was well done.
Brian Keating is an awesome teacher. Enthusiastic, insightful, and just overall amazing. It's a shame all my classes are downhill from here. Even sexier than Richard Dawkins
He is the best prof. I ever had. He makes lectures very entertaining. He would act out what primates would do. And show lots of videos. He is just awesome. His tests are fair.
This man is amazing. He was so funny and involved the class in his lectures. He was a great teacher and is passionate about what he does, which makes things even better. His tests were easy if you went to class and read the text (he only gives you one chapter). There was a lot of details but he made it very easy to remember. Lots of home videos!
Wow what a guy. He actually made my first semester enjoyable among all the other boring classes I had. Too bad he only teaches the class for half the course
He is so good. Makes learning interesting, something many profs fail to do. I went to class just so i could hear his jokes.
Simply the best. Such passion, such excitement, he was amazing. People were sitting on the floor packed into the room just to hear him speak
Amazing prof! Super knowledgeable in his field, inspiring speaker, and enthusiastic humorous prof that will have you regretting missing any of his lectures. Class is a breeze if you bother to study a bit the night before, I think I studied a total of 20 hours ALL SEMESTER and got an A. He's a world travelled, well know conservationist. Worth it.
super fun!! shows lots of interesting movies
By far the best teacher I've ever had in my life. I was actually EXCITED to go to class, something I've never experienced before. I kind of wish I failed just so I could take it again. He's hilarious and is so passionate about his work with primates and conservation. If there were more profs like Keating the world would be a much better place
The best prof, hands down at U of C. Only catch is, he doesn't work there. He teaches the primatology half of Anth 201, but he works at the zoo. His cheque from the university goes right to conservation efforts! He does it for the love of it. Funny, fair and FAMOUS! (Discovery channel) Whats more? He got hit by a semi mid-term and was back in a wee
Pretty good professor. You can tell he is very passionate about what he teaches. Liked him a lot. His tests were fair but if you want a good grade you have to study and read from the textbook. He keeps the class interesting by showing LOTS of videos. Really cool class.
Amazing professor! Very enthusiastic about what he teaches, keeps the class interesting with stories, videos and imitations. Very fair tests though you have to know your stuff (attending class really helps). I would take anything he was teaching in the future.
The best prof I have so far.Makes me want to be a primatologist.Exams are easy and fair because he says whats going to be on it, and it makes sense-As compared to science exams. He is a great person and i admire him a lot.Love his primate imitations, videos clips and memorable examples while taking notes.I hope he teaches another primate course!=)
He taught the primates section of the class and was more than capable of bringing the information to life. He has plenty of videos to keep the material interesting, and is full of stories to help you remember important points. He can be a little bit repetitive - but it certainly aids in memorization (of which there is lots!)
He's an awesome professor! He definitely knows what he's talking about, and he teaches it in a very interesting way. He's been on the discovery channel, and he's traveled all over the place, and has a ton of great stories and clips to show. I would definitely take anything else he teaches.
Fantastic prof. He's traveled all over the place and loves sharing his stories. He makes you want to attend class!
It's so exciting going to his classes because of the videos he has from his travels. He'd sometimes demonstrate how certain primates move and it was really funny to watch. Made me love the course, best prof I've ever had by far.
Definitely explains concepts well, though frequently gets side-tracked. His lectures are none the less the highlight of many peoples week because he is easily the most interesting professor most people know. Tests were fair, if you pay attention and read the book just a little, I think it would take a conscious effort to fail his class.
He is a very passionate teacher. He brings the subject alive with his many videos (from travels around the world) as well as his funny anecdotes and imitations. He gets a little sidetracked during lecture, and his notes could be a little more expansive and clear, but you get the main points. I love this class. Highly recommended.
Keating is the best professor I've ever had. His classes were fun and interesting, and he had us all laughing a few times throughout his half of the semester. He is so good at what he does, and so inspiring! Taking his class definitely made me consider Primatology for a future. And the videos... wooohoooo!
He shows great videos from his own experiances which are pretty cool and help quit a bit, wish he didn't say so much about the pointless stuff in the videos, but it's all good.
Very passionate and enthusiastic! Considering a future as a naturalist after this class.
Keating is an amazing prof, and a very interesting man. You have to go to class because he uses an overhead projector. He is very helpful if you talk to him one-on-one but my big issue was how disorganized his material was. It takes a long time when studying to sort each characteristic with each species. This causes a lot of work. Text barely helps
Most amazing prof I have ever had. He is knowledgeable, enthusiastic and extremely engaging. The videos he shows in class from his own experience are great, and Dr. Keating himself is extremely approachable and overall a really nice guy.
It seems good and interesting at first but then becomes quickly apparent that he just likes to hear himself talk. All he does is show home movies of his many trips to Africa with comments such as "and here is my wife and I enjoying a glass of brandy" and with very little about the course (or his topic: monkeys). However he is knowledgeable.
One word: SUPERB. Brian is amazing and really kept me wanting to go to class. Definitely worth suffering the first half just to be taught my this amazing human being. He makes you feel like you're actually worth something in this world, which is hard to come by
He is the BEST! He makes the second half of the course interesting and actually enjoyable. I loved tuesdays and thursdays because of anthro. He is most definitely a brilliant and an amazing prof!
Loved this guy! Keating just loves his primates and you can tell he loves teaching students about them. He presented the material in a fun way and his videos from his various trips were very enjoyable. His tests are definitely easier than the first half. Go to class and take good notes and you will be fine!
Enthusiastic, funny, loves to teach the content. Tests are ridiculous, amount of content to memorize is overwhelming (coming from a science student who could care less about primates anyway). Good prof but would not recommend taking anth 201.
He was very interesting and funny and his home videos were amazing! I always looked forward to going to class! However, his lecturing style was very difficult to follow as he jumps around a lot from species to species and only writes down about eight words per lecture and does not post notes. Tests were therefore hard to study for.
Extremely excited about teaching. Very animated. Important to take notes when he's talking as he doesn't write much down. Tests are based off exactly what he says; doesn't use the textbook that much. Very easy to talk to. Likes showing videos.
Best prof ever! Passionate about the subject and very enthusiastic. It is a must to attend lectures but he makes them enjoyable. Simple memorization for his section if the course. Highly recommend!
Amazing and passionate professor! His notes are super clear and helpful. He shows super interesting videos and pictures as well! 100% recommend him. Don't need to go through the textbook very often.
There's no getting around that there is a ton of information to know for the exams, however, the quality of instruction was excellent. It was truly a great experience to attend classes he instructed, and his home videos of the species studied made the topics more interesting and easier to understand. Textbook chapters are definitely required reads.
Very passionate and enthusiastic professor, obviously loves what he does. All his notes are hand written and hard to read most of the time. Write down what he says not what he writes, everything is testable. Tests aren't easy, he expects you to know everything about everything.
A really great prof. super enthusiastic and pretty funny too. Made class something to look forward to. The videos really added to the class
Brian Keating is such an amazing professor. When people say he's passionate about primates, they mean it. That passion is what makes his class so interesting and exciting to come to.I thought that the primate portion of this class was going to be dreadful but this dude made it seem like I was interested in primates, when in reality i'm not.
Fantastic professor. He was obviously very passionate and knowledgeable about this subject, and his enthusiasm was awesome. I found the material of this course quite overwhelming at first; it was a lot to memorize. However it was presented in an interesting way that actually made a lot of it stick in my head.
He truly is an amazing and engaging prof! His videos were super interesting and made class go by fast. However, the course itself is absolutely ridiculous in the amount you must know. For a 200 lvl course, this is NOT a gap booster., my worst mark.
Absolutely amazing professor. One of the few classes I actually looked forward to going to. He's passionate about what he teaches and that definitely comes across to his students. There's quite a bit of memorization but if you go to class and pay attention you will succeed. Take his class you won't regret it!
Keating is a great prof, but he expects his students to have photographic memory. Too much memorizing for an elective. The first prof was dreadful, but if you're interested in monkeys, Keating is the man.
Chief keating is the based god
Fantastic prof! Possibly the best I have had. I have recommended him to everyone I know who is interested in taking Anthropology. Lots of memorization for tests, but he provided great summaries of his notes. He is very passionate about his field, with lots of great stories and videos that he likes to share. Keeps class interesting!
this prof is amazing!! best prof ive had hands down
Dr. Keating is hands-down the most AMAZING professor I have ever had. In his section on primates, he provides videos and photos he has taken himself on his travels. His notes are all handwritten, and lectures must be attended in order to get all the information. He is hilarious and inspirational to anyone who aspires to anthropolohu
Enthusiastic professor, really passionate in his work. His hand written notes might be a little hard to follow. There is lots of content to study, and the tests can get quite specific. Overall, great experience and would recommend
very good inspirational prof , write good notes because most of the stuff he discusses with passion and details are likely going to be on the test.
Professor Keating is extremely intelligent. He knows everything about primates. It's refreshing to have a prof this passionate about his work. I loved the class, but there is a LOT of memorization. Tests are all MC, and the textbook won't save you. You must go to class and pay attention. His notes are hand written, and are often hard to read.
Brian Keating is an amazing professor, he loves his field and he makes people want to love it too. But that said, his courses are not going to be easy As! He wants to you know the material and he wants you to know it well. You need to know everything about monkeys!
Worst Prof I've ever had. He uses handwritten slides, which are unreadable. The class is just one long list of random facts. Impossible to study effectively for as the tests were so specific. The first half of the course with the other prof was good. 2nd half was terrible. I've taken 400500 level classes and this was way harder due to poor prof.
Highly recommend his class even if you are not in anth. Fairly easy class, just a bunch of memorizing. Keating is very funny and brings his home movies of him chasing primates which make the lectures even better.
One of few professors that speaks about their work outside the academic stream. He shows videos of his adventures in Africa and South America which are both educational and are just plain enjoyable to watch. Great professor but learn to take notes well.
Dr. Keating is a wonderful lecturer and very enthusiastic about anthropology and primatology. He shows home videos from his travels and research from all around the world, and really interests the class in the primate world. Although his handwriting is hard to read, going to class is the best way to get good notes and he hints at test questions.
Wow.I just finished writing the final and what a joke. I felt like goin up to Brian and reminding him that although he traveled to Africa and wherever else studying monkeys, the rest of us have not, so relax monkey man. Expects us to know way to many specifics; I read the whole textbook, hardly helped. Stay far away from Bri and INTRO(?) Anthro
Loved Keating. He brought his outside experiences in the field of anthropology to his teaching methods. Really interesting and gets you interested in the field of biological anthropology.
Dr. Keating is wonderful and recognizes the importance of work-life balance. He relates the material to his own personal experiences, and shows tons of fun videos of primates in the wild that he has filmed himself. Interesting, fascinating, and tests are not difficult.
Awful prof, talks to the class as if everyone is an anthro major. Notes were handwritten/impossible to read, and was difficult to know what to write down and study since he barely wrote anything down. Course in itself is VERY difficult, all memorization. I got A's in every other class this sem and could only get B+, don't recommend as a grade boost
Overall good class, hand writing was awful though but if you pay attention (which is easy to because of how interesting he makes the course) you'll remember it. The course isn't hard, mostly just memorization but enjoyable nonetheless. Didn't buy the textbook so you can just go to class and write good notes you're golden.
I thought he was an amazing prof. He is really excited about his field and shows lots of videos from his own experiences to help demonstrate what is being taught. You are expected to know little details that may or may not be in the textbook but if you attend the lectures and pay attention then you should know the information that is tested.
He is so passionate on his field, and shows many of his own videos and tell many stories of his experiences in relation to the course!!! Great prof and lectures are very interesting!
very knowledgable, has firsthand experience, lots of movies!
Not a good teacher. Talks to the students as if we are all anthro majors and its not an intro class. Lectures are unorganized and students are expected to write everything down because he doesn't post everything on D2L. What is posted on D2L is unorganized and doesn't always overlap with the textbook. Material is not too difficult, but he is.
Amazing prof and very inspirational! Go to class because he gives hints to what will be on the exams. Very interesting stories to listen to which help you remember things for the exams. Read your textbook and write down all the notes he gives in class and you'll be golden. Overall great class and great prof!
Best professor I've ever had. Dr. Keating cares deeply about what what he does, and teaches really well. Lectures were so good, every time.
This teacher was so inspirational, passionate and super knowledgeable! He's traveled the world, mostly in Africa, and presented many of his homemade videos in class which made them more interesting. Be warned that there is a lot of new terminology in this class so make sure you read the textbook! But overall, Dr. Keating was a fantastic prof!
Dr. Keating was such an interesting prof. He had personal videos to display what we were learning about, and it really helped in understanding the material. He doesn't post powerpoints on D2L, and his in-class lectures he only puts a term up and speaks about it himself, so attendance and note-taking is necessary.
Dr. Keating is one of the sweetest and nicest professors I've ever had. He's super passionate about his work, making the lectures much more enjoyable. He definitely covers all the material necessary for tests and is good at explaining the material . The only downside was he posted notes after lectures.
