This professor is amazing, he really knows his stuff at the same time knows how to relate to the millennials of today. Overall an enjoyable class and a great guy!
He makes you work and read, but ultimately very fair grader. lots of feedback on assignments. no surprises and very willing to meet with students. also hysterical and engaging. definitely recommend if you're interested in law, business, deals or negotiation.
best teacher in three years
Class was called Negotiation and Conflict Resolution but it was more like...... 50% law & business and 50% life, goals, love, laugher, motivation, reality....... Professor is WOKE and would take 1000 times again.
I've never worked so hard or learned so much at this university. Do not take if you are looking for an easy semester though. Do take if you want to learn business law and negotiation techniques. Professor puts A LOT of energy into the course. He expects a lot.
I struggled a lot at first because of the amount of reading. Prof. Farkas expects you to be very prepared for class and makes sure EVERYONE participates. By the end of the semester I felt much more comfortable participating and understanding the legal readings. REALLY good teacher. Also very funny.
No surprises on grades, gives you much more written feedback than most professors. Not an easy grader & has high expectations. Be prepared.
A great professor, very informative and makes the class enjoyable. Time flies by because of his teaching style. Very fair grader, takes into account the effort that you put into your work. 100% would take again.
Decent professor. Fair grader. Good amount of reading in this class. You can still follow-up if you did not read. Lectures are quite informative. Midterm, short paper and final paper are all literally easy. You will love this professor because he puts himself in your shoes as a student. Would take again in a heat beat.
I once got an email from him at 4AM chopping up and rewriting my resume. That says all you need to know about prof. farkas
I wish all my professors were like Farkas! His classes are engaging & interesting, so time flies super fast. He's sweet, surprisingly straight / metro hot, which eases my eyes after a long day. :P He's big on class participation so keep up w/ the reading & take lots of notes on what he says because that's what winds up on his tests. Fair grader.
Prof Farkas was one of the best professors I've had in Baruch. I'm not much of a participator, but because of that I paid a lot of attention to the discussions and made sure to share them in the papers and I did pretty well! He really made it so that we enjoyed being in his class with his great sense of humor. I definitely recommend taking him!!
Farkas is the most adorable professor I have ever had, he was a really funny and witty professor. Definitely an easy A, just show up. Easy grader, very laid down back, and professional.
Brian is a really chill guy who's very knowledgeable on American law. His class was very insightful and engaging. He's a very lenient grader too, so it wouldn't be difficult to get a good grade if you put in some work.
Took Intro to American Law with him, best class of the year
Farkas is not a good professor. He cancels way too many classes. He shortens the class session so instead of the 3 hours a week you are paying for, you are only receiving about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. He is usually the first one to leave the class. The subject matter is not difficult and you can very well learn it by yourself. Farkas is too lazy.
I LOVE Prof. Farkas. lectures are amazing. makes hard material (legal documents etc) very accessible. He also sends out all sorts of internship and job opportunities. amazing guy. seriously amazing guy.
Farkas is great at tying the class subject into the job market and talking about real industries. Class discussions are way livelier than most classes. He expects a lot of students so be ready for that work load but worthwhile if you have time
He's a nice guy, but not a good Prof. He is better suited in an online course since he is rarely there in person. He is a really easy grader and he doesn't take attendance. Just show up, write 2 papers, and pass. Be prepared for a lot of class cancellations. If you are paying for this course, it's not worth it. If fin aid is paying, take him.
The problem with Farkas is that he cancels too many classes. Overall, he is an okay professor. He is an easy A but be prepared to write two papers and take a final. No midterm. He does use real world examples to the into the course but it is a shame he is not in class too often. If you want the easy A, take him. If you want to learn, dont.
Went into the class thinking business school, left wanting to be a lawyer. Inspirational teacher who is good at leading debates. Not too much work though lots of writing assignments.
Very funny. Lots of reading and several papers but you learn a ton from his lectures. Very energetic teacher.
Prof. Farkas gives one of the most interesting classes I've taken so far. He is very kind and approachable, answers quickly and give great feedback. There's two big papers to write and a final test and that's it. I would definitely take his class again! Makes you want to become a lawyer..
Most caring and inspirational teacher at this school.
There seems be a divide on these reviews about Prof Farkas. I can only based my review on Com3074. He is a hilarious professor who wants u to understand the material. Pro: He listens to your opinions, he is accessible outside of class, and he really cares about his students. Con: He does cancel classes but with proper notice. Good Prof though.
More work than most Baruch classes but REALLY worthwhile if you have the time. Mr. Farkas is a great teacher with lots of knowledge about law.
This is the thing about his class: He cancels way too many classes (there is proof) He doesn't take attendance, ever He ends class 30 minutes early The work is too easy, two papers and one final You can learn this course online He basically covers 5 things He isn't a serious professor There are other better, more qualified professors than him
LOVE LOVE LOVE
The negative reviews here are truthful and he does seem like a caring professor. It's a split because he is barely in class but accessible via email and you are paying for in classroom instructor time, not for an online course.
Great professor. He has very high expectations for class participation compared to most teachers here. lots of energy which can be really hard if you take a night class with him. If you have the energy and time though really amazing dude.
Fair grader. Be ready to do a lot of writing. No surprises on final grades if you do the work. Class sessions are really enjoyable and lively.
A great professor, who gives valuable feedback about the real world. Good advice for job market. Assignments are not that hard but he cares about improvement over the semester, so you must pay attention.
Great teacher, chill but very knowledgeable.
He's like any other young college professor. Just show up, read, and pass. He's not much inspiring and there is no he.
Horrible teacher. Lazy. But very knowledgeable (only in his field, not actually teaching)
Show up. Listen to lectures. But don't expect anything more from this course
Prof. Farkas is an awesome instructor! I felt that I became a much better writer bc he really goes through papers carefully and makes edits and feedback. Helpful for ESL students particularly. I recommend him for the required capstone!
Way way better than the boring business law class that most are stuck with here.
Farkas is awesome for capstone and I highly recommend him especially if u are thinking law school or business school bc of his experience and contacts. Grading is very fair compared to other 4900s maybe a little more writing involved.
The positive reviews here are fake. The one thing that is true is that he doesn't out in any effort. He cancels so many classes and I have evaluated him through Baruch and had written a letter to the chairman and dean. My education comes first before his paycheck.
The bomb dot com
Do not believe the positive reviews. It seems that whenever there is a negative review, a few positive reviews show up. He is not a good professor and he cancels class too often. He also races out the door first. I'm not the only one who thought so in my class. Don't waste your money
Prof. Farkas was great for independent study. He is extremely easy to talk to and responds to emails really fast. Helpful research suggestions and good editor if you want a writing sample from the course.
Fair grader. No problem sets just writing assignments and one exam. He is funny and lightens the mood of classes. Workload is manageable if you pace yourself and follow his rubric for the writing assignments.
Professor Farkas is the man!!!! He is a really caring dude and wants everyone to feel as passionately about law as he does. He is great at explaining legal issues and questions. Not too hard a grader if you do all of the reading.
Chillest professor and best dressed professor )
Good guy. funny and keeps lecture to a minimum. definitely a participation heavy class. not overly hard grader.
Have him for capstone this January term. Very smart and experienced about law and conflict resolution. Learning a lot. Lots of reading but manageable.
Such a sweet professor. He will write you letter of recommendations, and if you're really interested in law, he'll mentor you. Easy A, just participate and show up, and you'll do fine.
amazing!!! most entertaining teacher who truly cares about each student. memorized our names by day 2 and knew our goals by day 3, suggesting internships and opportunities by day 4. highly recommend farkas to anyone interested in law or business.
Professor Farkas is one of the most delightful professors i have had the chance of experiencing. He knows much about civil law and breaks it down so that we understood in every day terms. The workload is relatively light but there are a few major assignments that are worth a chunk of your grade. I love law and this class was amazing!
Professor Farkus is extremely caring and clear in the lessons. class discussions are not boring. reading assignments are long but they are interesting and often related to current events. i would take another class with him for sure!
Just had him for january term capstone. amazing teacher and not a ton of work if your cool w a lot of short essays. i learned a lot in a short period.
Good teacher. Test is not hard, papers are long but not difficult.
His negotiation class is very practical and he is very funny! alot of the grading is simulations and papers. class is mostly pretty fun.
Good adviser for career stuff, more than most teachers. nice dude.
Winter session course was good because prof. farkas condenses a lot of hard material into a short period. he's a good professors if you are comfortable talking in class and engaging in debates.
Mr. Farkas is a great teacher! There is alot of articles to read though. Class still feels fast and fun.
get ready to reeeeaaad but if you don't mind that, it's a really great class. great for night students bc of times that class is offered. very knowledgeable about law.
For students interested in law this is a great course that will prepare you. He likes students to do research and write. He also likes class debates. He will make lawyers out of his students!
the man! doesn't care all that much about memorization compared to writing quality.
Farkas loves class discussions and handles debates better than most. It can be tough for students who are more shy because he likes participation. Work load is not too bad.
No surprises. clear expectations. Easy exams and quizes. Lots of reading.
professor farkas is a cool teacher. he is not a particularly hard professor but there is a lot of reading and he takes deadlines very seriously. you should not take it unless you are okay with reading. it is a good class to take for law school preparation.
BEST OF BARUCH!
I took him TWICE because he's that good!
fantastic dude, lots of reading but funny and interesting. keeps class moving always and never boring lectures.
Dude has more passion than any teacher at this university. If nothing else take Farkas to hear his dramatic full volume reading of the Bill of Rights which he recites from memory. Drink coffee before class and you'll do fine.
Professor Farkas is a very caring teaching. He loves individual meetings and is always available for life advice.
Awesome for summer session!!! chill and reasonable. learn a ton in a short period.
Best teacher!!! I would strongly suggest his class. Workload is reasonable and its very well organized. Speaking just for me I learned more than any other business management class.
Pros: great lectures, makes legal policy interesting, very energetic, very very funny, grading is fair. Cons: he somehow learns everyone's name on the first day of class so if you want to not show up he'll notice. also there is a lot of reading but it's not textbooks so interesting.
Great teacher! Prof Farkas covers a lot of material in law but makes it painless even for Zicklin people who are more accounting or finance focused.
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Work is reasonable and class never drags.
Took his classes twice. Papers are reasonable. No problem sets. Focus on participation.
Professor Farkas is extremely caring and kind. His class is a lot of reading and he does want everyone to talk in class. If you participate you will do well. He is very helpful with career ideas also. Never boring classes.
Very smart and funny man. This class taught at a high level and it is expected that your performance is of the same level. The Lectures are engaging and Brian is really funny in class so be prepared to laugh. Reading are actually interesting and applicable to everyday life situations. You're in good hands with this guy.
Amazing first-rate teacher at Baruch. DEFINITELY take him for capstone if you can.
awesome!!! best class best man
Professor Farkas is 100. He keeps it interesting during late night classes. Funny man!! He helps with internships and b-school application ideas too. One of the best teachers at Baruch. I suggest taking all of his courses.
His intro to law class was the best class I've taken at Baruch.. The work load is mostly essays and class participation. Teacher is unusually good. Find you a man who knows and loves you like Farkas knows and loves the constitution.
GREAT prof. Smart funny and you'll learn a lot.
Don't be scared by the Saturday class: you won't meet every week. Maybe not even every second week. He's teaching "for fun"(?): lawyer by day> prof at night. still great prof! Leaves a great chunk of the grade left to the end. Get ready to a loooot. Most interesting stuff , but still A LOT. Cares about participation but does not take attendance.
Farkas Fan Club. Farkas made late summer night classes into the best bonding experience I had at Baruch. There is lots of reading and he expects you to do it. Not easy if you work fulltime as I do. However it is worth it. The discussions are so interesting and it is never boring. Our class became really close because of his activities. Great prof!!
Have him for legal argument. Great dude, great lectures. work is not bad at all for a 3 credit class.
STELLAR
Professor Farkas is a great teacher for capstone. You do need to read a lot and speak a lot in class but the assignments aren't too hard as long as you read. He is very energetic and funny. I only took the class for my minor but it ended up as my favorite class yet.
Great class and great teacher. Reading is heavy.
Yes yes and yes. Took winter break capstone with farkas and it was much better than anyone expected given the commitment involved. Great teacher.
I took professor farkas's class because it fit into my schedule and it was the best decision i made. he leads amazing discussions about law and democracy. people actually become much more informed about the election and laws. this class should be required! i would take it again and again to learn more. only downside is a lot of long readings.
Yes yes yes. Great dude, work not bad, hours move quick.
Super easy course, I took him over the summer and had 3 discussion one final (super easy) and a final paper that was due after the final grade deadline. Take him for an easy A
Professor Farkas is very fair. His classes are funny and interesting. Be ready to read a lot and participate though. Articles are heavy. Compared to other teachers he does a good job on virtual classes so it's still worth the time.
AMAZING! Good class to take remotely because Prof Farkus has a flexible class structure. He has individual meetings and is very funny and great teacher.
Prof. Farkas is one of the best Professor here at Baruch within the dept of Comm Studies. I took during winter, only 3 weeks, class. It was online and asynchronous. I would say he is an easy professor. There were 3 discussion posts, 1 take home exam (only 3 short questions) and 1 research term paper. Easy A and I would take him again if needed.
Enthusiastic. Lectures are clear to follow and he responds quickly to emails.
Took his asynchronous class over the summer and it was great. His audio lectures are very informal and you actually learn a lot about ways of conflict resolutions and the law regarding it (as per the tittle of the course).
Professor Farkas is one of the best instructors at Baruch for any subject, hands down. His lectures were easy to follow and actually engaging. I asked for his help on one thing and he went above and beyond to give me the tools to succeed. There is still work involved in his class, but his biggest concern is making sure you learn what you pay for.
Professor Farkas is an asset to Baruch Communication Department .His grading criteria is clear. He responds to emails quickly and gives good feedback. This was an interesting online course(Fall 2020). I've learned the results from the decennial Census survey can increase or decrease each States electoral college delegates due to population.
Easily the best professor at baruch.
Please just take this class. I took it in the winter (3 weeks asynchronous) and was scared it would be too much material and work for 3 weeks. His lectures were so easy (and interesting) to follow and he grades based on a total of 3 discussion board posts, a take-home final paper, and a final research paper. One of the best classes I've ever taken.
AMAZING! BEST TEACHER! fair work and fair grader. recommend!!!!
I enjoyed his materials and lectures although the class was asynchronous I knew that before enrolling. This is a flexible class and Professor Farkas is a really good professor. he knows what he's talking about and also responds to emails quickly. I would recommend taking his class.
I enjoyed having professor Farkas, his lectures where clear and helpful. The class consisted of 3 discussion boards throughout the semester on the lectures of your choice, final exam, and final paper. I reccomend you take him if you have the option!
Really interesting stuff if you want to know more about legal conflict resolution and disputes.
Guys, if you need a GPA boost and get an easy A, take this professor. Three discussion boards, final exam, final research paper. Take him.
Took his Asynch class, best professor ever. His grading criteria is clear cut. 3 discussion posts, 1 midterm (you have 24 hours to take it) and 1 research paper which you can start working on from the first day. Easiest A ever. He is sure kind and generous and teaches well. His readings are really everything you need. TAKE HIM!
We need more professors like him. He is understanding, his lectures are interesting as well. He is a lenient grader. The course has 3 discussion boards, one final paper and a final. very easy to pass and boost your gpa. I wish his class was in-person, but it was online asynchronous.
Took him for a summer class - he made the complete opposite of stressful! Only three discussion boards of 1-3 paragraphs each, an open book exam of 3 questions, and a 7-9 page paper. He is very quick with his emails, and I don't think he is a tough grader, considering I received an A in this class. Do yourself a favor and take him!
Make sure your final paper is about LAW rather than History. 3 DB posts and one open book/open internet exam and that is all. Professor will not go over your essay as he does not have time. Start the essay from the beginning of the semester and you will be stress-free. Will definitely take him again! Good luck :)
Take him any chance you get, especially for a COM capstone in the Summer. Very easy asych course: 3/5 discussion posts of your choosing with a final research paper about any subject relating to litigation, arbitration, mediation or negotiation. Minimal reading no textbook required. Best class ever!
take him for ANY com class!! 3 discussion board post for the whole semester of your choosing, 1 final where we have two days to send it to him, and an essay! he was also super quick in responding to emails and super kind.
As a capstone and a 4000-level course, This has been by far the most easy and no-stress course I have ever taken. 3 Simple DB Reflection posts that you can choose which 3 to do From the Start to the End of the Semester. Then, you have a simple Final Exam and Research Paper. Highly Recommend, Good Luck getting into his class though. It gets filled Q
Graded only on three discussion board posts, an open note final exam, and a final paper. Lectures are interesting and informative.
3 discussion boards, 1 take home exam and 1 final paper. very no stress class and professor farkas is very kind, and responds to emails extremely fast.
3 discussion boards, take-home exam, and a 7-9 page final paper. TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES FOR AN EASY GPA BOOST!
This class was enjoyable and appreciate the fast emails.
