So easy. Clear notes, illustrates his major points. No tests, one paper. Allows rewrites on paper, as many as you want to do and grades don't go down, only up. So awesome, SO nice. I'd recommend him anytime.

Real hard teacher. I never had to read because he went over everything in class, but he's just horrible. I hated the class, I hated his lectures, I hated the work....
booooooring, hard, boring, hard, did i mention its real boring, and real hard?
you dont have to read the material because he goes into full detail in class...remember to take good notes and you will do fine. funny and interesting. plus, he looks like Waldo.
Really good prof. He knew his stuff, and he did go over the material thoroughly, but reading is also a good idea...scalawag
EASY!!! all you had to do to get an A was show up! he dresses cool and is the man!
He's an awesome guy, very nice and intelligent. His class is easy as long as you show up and pay attention. He gives you an awesome review sheet for each test and is always willing to help if you just ask. Keep him!
he is a pretty easy teacher..lectures can be boring at times but if you show up to class take good notes and higlight every passage he talks about youll be fine

Very good professor. Great personality and he knows his stuff. All you have to do is show up to class and take good notes and highlight all the passages and you will do fine. It can get boring at times, but its a good class.
It was teh most boring class ever. He is really really nice, and as a person i like him a lot. it may not have been him though .. the material was kind of lacking. But I wouldn't take him for am lit 1 .. anything else sure .. but not that.
NOT BORING IF U LISTEN TO HIM! excellent teacher easy A! and thats all that should matter he also listens to students and is very helpful
HES Hot in a dorky way, kinda drab at times.Cant stand still. He knows his stuff and is pretty friendly. The tests are not as easy as some say, but arent the hardest either;could be a lot worse. You really have to show up~miss more than 3 and he drops you a whole letter grade.
very very boring class, but if you go to class and listen you'll do well on the exams (even if you don't read the material). Only grades in the class were exams and 1 paper.
this man tells you what he wants you to tell him. you are not required to come up with an original thought or opinion ever, and if you try he will quash it. so if you're looking for a good class to parrot back information, show up and listen to his stuttering, and you'll be fine.
It was hard to pay attention in class because the material is very boring and hard to understand. Tests are very hard. Def. not an easy A. The whole course is Poem oriented, no books. If you like poetry and like to be lectured, then take it...Otherwise you are in for a hard class with hard tests
He is a nice guy and really wants to help you. Still, hes got flaws like any other human. He wont let you think for yourself...almost parents you into thinking about everything his way. The tests are NOT easy and the lectures are as dry as the desert is long.
He is a REALLY nice guy who knows his material & is interested in politics. Ive taken him 2X & if I went to class and did the work I did fine. I wouldn't say it was an easy A although I did get an A in his class. I found his classes very stimulating and funny.A greatprof!PS. He likes the Red Sox too
Wake me up when you see me drooling....thanks;).
bring a pillow to class, you will need it

Very interesting class.
very hard, very rude, very boring, very very mean, i recomend this class to all,
material is boring but he adds funny comments every so oftern. test are straight forward and pretty easy
As others have said, the material can be boring, but he interjects-sometimes out of the blue-funny things (usually about his family...or turtle sex (lol)). The tests are essay tests, but he gives you a review sheet and the essay question ahead of time so you can be prepared. Overall a good professor and very fair.
The class was too loosely structured, class discussions were not focused, so there really wasn't a ton of learning, mostly focusing on certain quotes from the readings. But the class is free to express themselves, he's funny and understanding and light with the reading, don't go on overkill with the homework. Responds to emails promptly.
great teacher, took both is on-line classes he makes sure you stay on top of things if you want to pass the class.
Material is very difficult to read and understand, but everything on the exams he goes over in class. Exams consist of definitions, essay, and passage identification. He will only ask you passages gone over in class, so highlight them in the book and you'll be fine. not a class for slackers, but very interesting stuff. NO PAPERS or research projs.
He's a really funny, witty guy! The class can be very interesting some days and extremely boring others.Lots of papers and readings assigned but he helps a lot and u can rewrite them if ur not happy w/ ur grade. Make sure and go 2 class and participate once in a while and u'll b fine!I recommend u take this if u want 2 learn something!
A lot of writing essays. Can be a difficult grader but gives you the chance to redo if you do not like your grade. Is very fair. It is important to attend class. He is very witty.
Enjoyable professor with a great personality! You must stay on top of your work. Many essays and a lot of reading. But a great experience
He is fantastic! I wasn't really interested in taking this class to begin with, I was only taking it for my major but he ended up making it fun and interesting to listen to. He does digress a lot during the class but that makes it interesting! He is very easy going and the class is easy if you pay attention and do the readings. He is wonderful!
He taught Professor Petit's class while she was stuck in France. He was an awesome teacher, totally interesting to listen to. Really easy grader, I don't know if that was because he was just filling in, but he was a really great guy.
I hate the Romantics and always will. However, it really speaks wonders of a professor's character and skill if he/she can deliver such a dynamic lecture on a subject that you despise and makes it interesting. Gives paper topics but offers the opportunity to write on something else. Full of energy, passion, and knowledge. Great prof, great man.
Professor Folker is very entertaining - even if the material is dry he adds in random stories and makes class very enjoyable. He's incredibly knowledgeable about what he is teaching, and he is easy to get in touch with outside of class. In my opinion, he's one of the best professors at CCSU.
DR FOLKER RULES!!
I LOVED THIS CLASS! His humor brought the class to a new level - and broke up the monotany of the material at times!!!! You should totally take this class!
dont get me wrong hes a very nice guy and really loves his job i just think he likes it a little to much. if you looking for a class to take a nap in this one will do the trick. extremely boring teacher that will talk forever. he keeps you till the last minute and you will check the time at least once every 10 minutes to see if and hour has passed.
Dr. Folker is a great teacher, even though the material is really boring, he tries to make it interesting. He goes off on at least 3 or 4 tangents a class and he can be pretty funny/entertaining. He will help everyone individually after assigning papers and will let you rewrite papers as well. Great teacher.
Folker is a great guy, he made Romanticism a good class despite the fact that the material was incredibly boring. One of the better professors in the department for sure.
Dr. Folker is awesome! He makes British Literature interesting because he's hilarious. He is always prepared to answer questions and listen to new ideas. The class is a little tricky because there are only 2 tests and a final, so there isn't a lot of room to screw up. Just go to class, take notes, and study your brains out for the exams!
very tolerant grades fairly even if he doesn't agree with you're thesis =)
he is a wonderful teacher..grades very fairly.i think he is just good at what he does, will definately take another class he teaches.
Great teacher.
He is an excellent teacher who genuinely cares about his students. If extra help is needed, he is more than willing to do everything possibly and is excellent at responding to emails. I'm taking him again next semester!
Absolutely awesome! He's so random and curses, kind of awkward too.. but the class is fun and fairly easy. He tells you the exam questions ahead of time. And he's kind of a grey fox
He is an excellent teacher, his class requires that you engage in his lectures. Very fair grader and he gives you plenty of time and information to prepare for tests! Only 3 tests, 30% 30% and 40%. Bring your A game and you will do fine. He also has a great sense of humor, which class. I do not regret taking his class!
I've always hated English classes, but I really loved this one. Great reading selections, and even if you don't read it all he tells you the important parts in class. Engaging, relevant, and often funny lectures (unless you can't take an occasional swear) get you ready for the exams, which aren't too hard and are graded very fairly. Great teacher.
Awesome professor! He teaches at a good pace, and is very clear about what will be on the exams. A little studying goes a long way. He clearly loves his job, take any of his classes!
His lectures are very detailed. He puts some notes online which is helpful! As long as you take notes and follow his tangents you'll be fine! His tests aren't bad though a lot of studying for them! Put in the effort and you'll get a good grade!
This class is very boring I am currently taking it with about 4 weeks left. The material is very difficult and the professor is so boring. I dont believe it is his fault though its the subject. e is a nice guy and grades fairly 3 exams and mandatory attendance. spark notes and wikepedia will be your best friend!
Really great professor! The material is pretty boring but he makes learning it fun. Really enjoyed him, if you have to take a ENG class take it with him!!!
I would definitely recommend him. He's very funny and such a sweetheart. There are only 3 tests which are quite difficult and require a lot of studying. He takes attendance every class but if you go to class and you'll want your class notes when it comes to the exam. Material is boring but love his class!!!
He's a nice guy who seems smart himself but just isnt a great teacher. He only gives 3 tests and theyre heavily weighted so if you mess up on one you're done. its ALL him lecturing. I like english class to be more interactive. He inserts his own (pessimistic) opinions but doesn't seem to be interested in his students.
Prof. Folker is a nice man but doesn't take interest in his students. We were not allowed to ask questions unless her asked if anyone had any. His humor is sometimes crude and he lectures the entire class period. The exams took preparation and studying since there was only of them. Take good notes because you need them for the quote i.d. and essay.
Dr. Folker is such a cool guy. He is extremely intelligent and also very witty which keeps class interesting. He's very helpful and I learned a lot from him. I would definitely recommend him.
I'm currently taking this class with about 4 wks and some of the material is dry but other parts are really interesting. Folker is a very genuine, nice prof who yes goes off on tangents but is extremely funny. He is an extremely fair grader!!! This is my last semester and I couldn't have asked for a better prof to end my college career with.
Prof Folker is an awesome guy. He doesn't usually teach this class, so don't expect to find him listed under it again. He tries to keep class interesting and light hearted. He also understands that we are humans and if you talk to him, he will help you out with assignments. Like he won't just give you a bad grade and let you go. such a nice guy
Professor Folker's teaching style (for this class anyways) consist of you the student sitting down and him just lecturing. I like that! Honestly never have I had an english class where the student can just sit down and hear what the professor has to say. None of that participating-bull. Just plain and simple: takes notes and exam. Highly recommend!
Great guy! Lectures are all on Blackboard if you need to gain clarity on anything. 3 easy tests. Last one is cumulative but only for vocab and the essay which he gives you beforehand. Mark the passages you go over in class & read them before the test with your notes and you'll be fine. Awesome teacher and class!!
There is a lot of reading but that is the bulk of the work. Show up to class having read and be ready for a lively and open discussion. No opinion is shut down, everyone is free to say anything they feel on the text. He loves hearing new interpretations and having students lead discussions. Essay topic is whatever you want if you can back it up.
He is a great teacher don't get me wrong, he's just tough when it comes to papers. He will work with you, and wants you to succeed but if your interpretations do not match his then your answer is wrong - keep that in mind. Would I take him again? Yeah, probably. I do recommend him - there are reading but nothing to bad that you can't handle.
Take this professor !! You won't regret it.
Best teacher I've had here. Is passionate, funny and very interesting to listen to. I am not an english major but he made my enjoy the class like it was my passion. If you can take him, do it!!
Amazing professor - he's there to help you on papers no matter how you feel about the subject matter. I've taken him for 2 other courses before and I would certainly take again. Participation is a MUST in 298 - only to further the conversation and understanding of literature. Take Prof. Folker if you can.
Folker was one of the best professors I've had, hands down. Though he can be a bit loquacious, it is clear he is passionate about the subject matter. His Lit Analysis class revolves around class discussion and papers. He can be critical with his grading, but it makes you push yourself. I would highly recommend taking him if you are an English major
Such a nice, goofy, entertaining professor. He really loves English, especially Romanticism and has a lot to say. Can get a little boring if you're not into English but he tries really hard to make it interesting. Tests are a bit lengthy but nothing impossible. Typical English course.
At first, I was a bit weary of Professor Folker because he can be a bit crass, and monopolizes the lectures. However, I ended up loving him as a professor! Show up to class, mark what he says in the passages and listen! That's ALL you have to do to succeed! I got an A on all 3 exams by doing those things. Oh, and he has a great sense of humor!
OMG I LOOOOOOVE FOLKERRRRRRRRR Seriously, though, Folker is a very helpful professor. He encourages discussion (on or off topic, lol), challenges opinions on texts, and is extremely entertaining/funny. His classes aren't terribly difficult, but you will learn quite a bit. He's definitely an experience worth having at CCSU.
Awesome Professor!!! English majors, take Folker & LOVE HIM!!! He is an actually human being who cares about his students!! Come prepared!!!! Ask questions!!!! He will help u and actually understand you!!!
If you take ENG298 with him, save yourself $50+ dollars and don't rent/buy the Glossary of Terms. The other texts will be used, while this one collects very expensive dust. As a professor, he's a cool guy. I have a hard time paying attention in his class because he rambles and his voice is monotone, but he's not a bad professor by any means.
A very pretentious individual. His interpretations of poems are the only correct interpretations in his mind. Very nice guy overall, kind of a tough grader. Only 4 tests in the class, no other grades, which can either be a very good thing (for people that test well) or a very bad thing.
This class is hard, but it's been one of my favorite classes so far. I expressed that I struggled analyzing poetry, and Folker brought me an article breaking down Yeats so I could better grasp it. He's a pretty tough grader, but will help you a LOT if you need it. He's also really funny in class.
Grades are based on 3 exams & gives an extra credit at the end that can boost your grade up 3 points. His interpretation of the poem is the only right one in his mind. Very funny in class. all lectures are posted online. Doesn't do participation grade bc he will talk for the full 75 min. I'm not an english person but he made me enjoy the class.
He is an amazing professor! He's a tough grader but if you go to his office hours he's extremely helpful. He's funny and makes the content interesting. Offers extra credit, and lets you rewrite papers if you get a bad grade.
I genuinely dislike 19th century Brit lit, but Dr. folker is such a good professor I don't mind the subject. I've never had a bad time in his classes, and I would recommend him to any English major.
Prof Folker thinks that his ideas are the only correct ideas. If you disagree with him on anything he will shoot you down and say that you're wrong. He loves to monopolize the discussion and give his students very little time to have input before he moves on to the next subject. Very tough grader, he expects a lot in your papers.
He's a nice guy, but pretty if you don't agree with him you're wrong. The class involves 3 six page papers, little 1 page reflections, but barely got those, 2 vocab quizzes, and 2 out of class assignments. He grades tough, but he lets your write your papers as many times as you want. Always accessible out of class, and gives many ways of help.
Love Professor Folker! He is so funny and makes the lectures so much better. He;s super passionate about the literature he teaches and really just tells it how it is. I would def take him again!
Sign in sheet every class. You are grade on 3 tests. As long as you read the poems in class and study, you will pass. tests include definitions, short answer and essay. He will read your outline prior to the test and give you feedback. Awesome guy.
Good teacher, very knowledgeable and passionate about the content taught. The class is based on 3 exams in class and he offers an extra credit opportunity at the end of the semester. Not heavy work load, as long as you attend class, read the poems and study, you should do good in class.
Professor Folker is excellent. He is very funny and tries to make the class interesting even if its a British poetry class at 9 in the morning. He is very knowledgeable and clearly knows what he is talking about. Class consists of 3 exams but if you just read the poems and try to read the poems and study the definitions you will be fine.
Amazing professor!! However, only two tests, no final, so prepare to do well that's all your grade depends on. By"cumulative" final he means the essay is cumulative. Tbroughout the class theres alot of poems to interpret, and different authors but its not too bad.
Although he sometimes is stuck on his own ideas of readings, he is always respectful about it. He gives great feedback and wants you to do well. Participate in class and pay attention. He does get off topic often but he is still one of my favorite English professors.
Prof. Folker is amazing, he assigns a lot of reading but its worth it. He tends to lecture a lot but he also encourages discussions, take him, easy grade.
This class was okay. He is nice/ funny but his teaching style was not my favorite. It was lecture heavy and consisted of us just going through poems every class. The hardest part about this class is memorizing the poems, which is required for the test and the extra credit. The three tests are not that bad but u have to study a lot for it
Professor Folker is a good professor. The class is kind of long and boring sometimes because he talks for the entire class but he is a funny and nice guy and grades very reasonably. Be careful because the grade for this class is only three exams and an extra credit opportunity. You don't need a book for the poems you could look them up online.
He gave high grades. I like his lectures!
Always gives detailed and helpful feedback. Allows as many drafts as you need and can be forgiving with late work. Also is super crazy in the best way..class is always interesting
He's a fantastic professor. I like most of the readings, but he manages to make even the boring ones still enjoyable! Definitely take him if you get the chance.
A guy who thinks a lot and thus always gives insightful comments. Lenient and approachable. Gives relatively high grades.
I took this class not as an english major, but as somebody who enjoys literature- and I absolutely loved it! Professor Folker makes the material interesting and entertaining. He required only 3 books which I got online for very cheap. I would 100% recommend him and will take another class of his myself.
He's very understanding. The more you talk and answer his questions during class, the easier class goes. On exams as long as you explain your thought process, you could be wrong but he'll still try to give you as many pts as possible
I was very skeptical about the material but he makes it very interesting.3 exams, exams are not hard you just have to show up, pay attention, ask questions, and take notes, this is a very easy class. Put effort into it, He is very nice and understanding and he cares for his students. Its 100% worth your time/money I enjoy his class!
I am not a fan of reading nor am good at interpreting literature. However, I needed to take another ENG class. So glad I took his! Lectures can sometimes get boring, but his lectures are the answers to the tests!. Homework is to read poems, but he's going to go over exactly what they mean either way. TAKE NOTES, every detail matters. Curves grades!
He goes over poems and definitions. Three tests, clearly tells you what is expected on them: short answers on two poems you went over in class and two definitions. Extra credit option if you want. Take notes, ask questions. He is easy grader. "I grade in a way that I see what I can give you points for, not take away." Very easy-going guy!
3 total assignments for the semester: midterm, essay and final exam. Exams are easy and only go over the sections of readings discussed in class, so be sure to pay some attention during lectures. Funny guy, makes an otherwise boring class more energetic with his teaching style. Relatively easy grader and looks to add points rather than take them.
Really positive and laid-back guy. Just pay attention in the lectures and contribute to class discussion, as the exams are based off it. He basically says what he expects from each exam with the points he goes over from the readings. 10/10 recommend.
This was my second class with him. Really positive and laid-back guy. Just pay attention in the lectures and contribute to class discussion, as the exams are based off it. He basically says what he expects from each exam with the points he goes over from the readings. 10/10 recommend.
I was going to drop this course because I thought it was going to be boring, but Dr. Folker made it interesting! A lot of reading (obviously) and your grade will be made up of tests. Also please participate in class! I was one of the only people to answer his questions and it was super awkward. Great teacher!
The material on this class was super dry but Professor Folker was able to make it really interesting! I went to his office hours like once. The only thing I disliked was the notecards he had us fill out due to lack of participation.
Honestly im not super into english but he made this class so fun, he is genuinely so funny and he is so nice and caring. he is pretty relaxed and he posts mini versions of his lectures on blackboard incase you miss a class or something. he gives you everything you need for his class all u have to do is get the books which r on amazon. love him lol.
