Great guy, really cares about the subject. Lectures are fun and easy to follow. Goes over plenty of examples in class and answers questions enthusiastically.
This was his first year teaching so I was intimidated at first but I'm glad I stayed in his class. Great lectures, responds to emails fast and always willing to help. Funny guy and TOTAL babe. Would love to take a class with him again.
Brain is energetic and seems passionate about statistics; however, I found that he would sometimes go too fast through material. I strongly recommend printing out the lecture slides to bring to class to add notes to, instead of trying to copy down everything on the slides into your own notebook!! It will make your life so much easier.
This was Brians first year teaching, and I honestly think he's a way better Prof than others I have had that have been teaching for years. His lectures are interesting, captivating, and very helpful. He responds to emails SUPER fast and is very understanding and caring towards his students. I would strongly recommend taking a class with him.
Very good prof. Really listens to student feedback and will answer any question. Tries to make sure that everyone understands, and will explain the concept differently if needed. Lots of examples that are similar to assignment questions. Midterm has the same question style as the assignments and it's easy to get part marks if you're wrong.
Brian was a phenomenal teacher! It was his first year as a University professor and he..."absolutely crushed it..." He definitely has a mild case of Dad jokes going on, but was a great teacher and truly wanted the class to succeed. Make sure you do all of the homework, show up to class, and you'll be fine!
Brian was a great prof, especially for his first year. Extremely enthusiastic about the lectures and knows his stuff. He is extremely helpful if you go see him with the assignments. Show up to his classes and print of the lectures. He does a lot of examples that are key to assignments. Very much enjoyed his class, and not because I like stats!
He's a super cool guy who can actually make STATS somewhat interesting. I found some times his notes (which you can print before before class) are pretty cluttered. Midterm was similar to the practice one so that was a bonus. Not bad on the eyes either. Overall, best stats prof out there!
Such a caring and funny professor. He can explain things too fast sometimes which could get confusing but he was always super helpful when you had any questions. Made a boring class enjoyable with his personality and was't bad to look at either.
Normally I avoid new professors, but I am happy to have taken Brian's class. He's passionate about stats and I am pleased to say I didn't fall asleep in his class like I expected to. He's succinct and is clear with what he expects from his students. Assignments are easy. Do them. And he is a fox.
The one thing I had a problem with was his lectures. He wrote really small and went super quick so it was hard to fully understand the material. The midterm was easy but his final exam was insanely hard and I feel that he did not effectively prepare us for it. Other than that he is a great guy. He's approachable and will help you outside of class.
Honestly Brian is a great guy, but I have never felt so unprepared for a final before. He is funny, but he makes so many mistakes in class and goes way too quickly. If you're not a math person, do not take his class. Midterm was similar to the practice, but final was the hardest thing I've ever done even with all the studying I did.
This class is so hard, I found myself writing "please show mercy" on every assignment, midterm, and the final. Be prepared to do practice problems everyday! If you don't keep up, you will fall behind. With that being said, this professor is solid! Responds super fast to emails and will explain concepts another way if you don't get it.
Overall Brian was a great professor! I Was pretty bummed out that I had to take stats but he made it way better than I expected. He's hilarious! He has a clear grading criteria and also gives a ton of example questions in his lectures, so I recommend always coming to class. Brian definitely cares about his students!!
midterm was easy. Final was stupid hard :/
Hated Stats, loved Brian. Was super clear in all of his lectures and was always helpful when needed. Also took students opinions seriously, and changed his teaching styles as result of feedback. Midterm was hard and the final was super hard! Holds the rule that you must get over 40% on the final the pass the course (regardless of grade). Great guy.
Straight up he is all g. You can't complain about the homework cause every teacher assigns the same questions. The midterm was exactly like the practice(just took out a few steps). Walked in with a 86-88 and I think I got less than 50 on the final TBH. Same with my friend and many other people. Way to hard! Only thing really bad about taking him.
He's very understanding. When everyone was overwhelmed with midterms he would extend the homework assignments, he always asked if we had questions. He cared a lot about the students understanding the material. He was always willing to make time for questions outside of class. Hilarious guy, great sense of humor.
Knows how to teach however, his final was the hardest final I've ever written.
He was an awesome teacher and he really cared about his students. He extended the due dates of homework assignments when he could sense we were overwhelmed, which was really helpful! Textbook wasn't used, as the assignments were all posted on blackboard. His midterm and final were all long answer, no multiple choice, and really, really hard!
Brian is a great. He explained things very well and responded to emails fast. He leaves the examples on the slides blank so if you want to know how to solve a specific problem, go to class. Final exam was DIFFICULT but overall fantastic prof.
He's a great teacher and really wants everyone to do well. Attendance isn't mandatory however he does some really good examples in class that aren't written on powerpoints, so I recommend going. His tests are super easy & he does an assignment each week that are easy marks. You don't need the textbook unless you want extra practice questions.
He's hilarious and very chill! I am not a math person at all and I still did well! He goes above and beyond to help the students. His lectures are not mandatory but he goes through many examples in class that help a lot with the assignments! If I had to take more stats classes I would want him as the prof.
Great guy, super funny and cares about his students. Struggled with the midterm, but his final was simple and straightforward. Would definitely take his class again!
Was a real great prof, broke down the course content into very easy to understand chunks. His midterm and final were ridiculously straightforward, and he even took some marks off at the end to boost the average. You don't need the textbook as assignments posted online, but print the slides off and take notes on them when he shows examples in class.
Great professor in the sense that he explains concepts clearly and answers questions well. Great lectures help you understand material quickly. He must think that STAT 151 is the only class people take, the amount of homework Brian gives is ridiculous and although you have a week to do it it occupies so much of your time especially during midterms.
Very good and caring teacher. Favourite teacher I have had at macewan
10/10 recomend!
Dr. Franczak is one of the best profs I have ever had! He made stats easy to understand, and lectures were fun to go to! Stats is still stats though, and I found the textbook was still good for practice, but it's not required! I ran into him outside of his office one time, and he stopped to check something over for me. An overall great guy :)
Brian was all around a great teacher. He cared about his students and offered hours outside of class. His midterm and final were easy and strait forward as long as you do the practice tests. Notes are posted on blackboard, but attending class helps since he walks through examples with you. The only downside is the excessive amount of homework.
Brian is a decent teacher at best. If you did not fully understand stats 151, I would not recommend taking 252 with him. His lectures are very theory based so it didn't help us on the assignments that asked for a lot of math related problems. There are also ALWAYS mistakes in his practice exams which makes studying even more difficult.
If you did not fully understand stats 151 I would not recommend taking 252 with him. Lectures are very theory based which was not helpful on the assignments that asked for a lot of math related problems. There are also ALWAYS mistakes in his practice exams which makes studying even more difficult. The stats help room is the only thing that helped.
Brian is amazing! Always responds back to emails in less than 10 mins, always willing to help and genuily cares about his students. The class overall was great! Even though there are a few mistakes in his practice exams, if you bring it towards his attention his will change it asap. Overall, I recommend Brian!
Brian is one of the best profs I've ever had, and the only reason I did so well in stats. I am absolutely terrible with math, but he broke it down and made it easy to understand. His sense of humour (and good looks) made early lecture times worth it. He responds to emails really fast, and is super helpful outside of class too. 100% recommend !!
Overall a very good prof. Would take him again. Hes very good at explaining things in class and goes step by step. He writes on the lecture notes and uploads them so you don't have to take many notes in class. Assigns a lot of homework though. His midterm and final were hard and were all short answer questions.
Take this prof you wont regret it. Easy to understand, great teacher, likes to joke around.
I love Brian as he's a wonderful professor. He is very helpful and replies to emails instantly also. He's always available outside of class. Recommend taking Stats 151 with Brian as he makes the class witty and interesting. Plus you don't even need to buy the Stats 151 textbook as he provides the questions online.
Brian is the bomb DOT com
Brian is hands down the best prof I've ever had. His lectures are always fun and engaging and he makes everything super interesting. He replies to emails almost instantly. He is very flexible regarding his office hours so it was never difficult to talk to him outside of class. Definitely recommend and certainly would take his class again.
There is no way that you could possibly go wrong with Brian. If you fail his class, you literally must have tried to fail. With the way he explains everything is a beauty itself, he breaks everything down step by step so that everyone understands it. If you still don't understand, he's always willing to help you and always responds to emails fast.
The first couple weeks of this course I thought I was going to fail, but with Brian's help I finished off very well. He is funny and makes statistics class an enjoyable experience. I definitely benefited from going to class. He's very fast to email back and if you're struggling he is great at helping you better understand. Definitely recommend!
Brian was absolutely amazing! Stats wasn't an easy course for me, but he was there to help throughout the term. He responded to emails within minutes and went over reoccurring questions in class. His lectures were engaging and he explained things really well. Definitely one of my fav profs at MacEwan!! He's also pretty attractive so that's a plus.
Brian is super understanding. He was willing to help and accommodate when needed! He made lectures enjoyable, and made the material easy to digest. Responded to emails very quickly, and was available for questions when necessary! Honestly my fav prof that I've ever had!! Take stats with him!! The BEST!!
fun guy and quite hilarious but definitely not the best stats prof. 99.999% you ask him a question, he does not have the answer ready, which on its own is a joke. Stick to him for the intro level courses, but as courses get tougher, its best to go with someone more knowledgeable.
Brian attempts to teach his students but unfortunately is not successful. The biggest issue is his teaching style, he pulls information from out of no where so when you're reviewing your notes you have no idea why that number/variable is being used. Also heavily relies on proofs but rarely provided examples on how to do them. Very difficult class!
Doesnt make the textbooks a requirement for the class unfortunately the textbooks are very necessary as Brian doesnt clearly explain concepts. In fact sometimes he seems confused himself and if you go see him during his office hours he just explains it the same way. He also drops fake hints on what's on the test. Practice tests dont helpy at all
Brian's lecture notes posted on blackboard are very thorough and the examples he provides are similar to the assignments and exams. He cares about his students and is willing to help and answer as may questions as needed.
Brian is such a great teacher. He made this course easy to learn and follow, even the more difficult material. Review the slides on Blackboard and you'll be fine. There is one midterm, some assignments, and the final exam. Super approachable for questions too.
Brian was honestly great for an intro stats class. His practice exams were similar to the actual exams. He is willing to clarify any questions you have if you ask him face to face and tries different explanations if you dont understand. Made stats fun and an Easy A/B in my opinion.
Before Brians stats 151 class, I dreaded the idea of this course. However, it has been one of my favourite courses throughout my post secondary path. Brian was so clear with his lectures and exams and was always willing to help if things were not clear to you. Highly recommend!
Brian was a okay stats prof. His practice midterm was very similar to his actual midterm however his class was very hard to stay focus in. He skips many steps when doing examples and was always rushing to the next topic. It was a very hard class. I did well throughout the class however when it came to his midterm and final he marked very tough.
As long as you show up to lectures the material is fun. He does upload the slides, but the lectures are important as he does explain everything in depth and does the questions step by step. He makes sure everyone is understanding the material and never makes you feel bad about asking questions. If you do the practice tests, you'll ace the exams.
A KING !!!!! was so sacred to take stats but this guy explains everything so nicely. So far his midterm was exactly like his practice one, and doing the assignments has really helped me. One of the best profs I have ever had. Hope he never has a bad day in his life.
The switch to online has been super tough on me personally; however, Brian was a gem in all of it. I can not express how much I appreciated both the well-organized lectures and help outside of class. You could message him at 11 PM, and he will get back to you within minutes. Even though I'm not a strong math student, he made the course easy.
Brian is a great guy and if you're taking stats online, I'd highly recommend him. He cares about his students and makes the lectures bearable. Stats is very dry but I throughly enjoyed this semester with him. Fair grader. 25% of your mark is for assignments so make sure you do well on them, some of them are pretty gruelling.
I was scared of having to take Stats for the first time as a breadth requirement for my degree, especially since it was online. But Brian made the class way easier than expected and taught the class very well making sure his students understood the content.
Brian is awesome! His online delivery was really well put together and he was always available to help. Responded really quickly to all emails. 10/10 would recommend. If you do the assignments and study it would be hard not to do well.
I didn't think I would do good in this class, but I did way better than expected. Prof explains everything simply, easy to understand. Responds to emails promptly, great prof!
He was not helpful and did not know how to explain things in an orderly manner. He showed up late to class and was not prepared to teach. Left class more confused than I was.
I would've struggled so much more if I hadn't taken Brian's class. He explains statistics in a way someone who is bad at math can understand. He's quick with emails and is always open to answer questions. When I was struggling after the midterm, he helped me get a tutor! He really goes out of his way and is the best STAT prof at MacEwan.
Brian was my favorite prof so far. His lectures were engaging and he cracked jokes throughout class. He made concepts easy to understand and gave lots of examples to follow along with while doing homework questions. He responded to emails fast (even at 10pm) and was always available to ask questions or get feedback. I would highly recommend him.
I love Brian! I was so nervous about taking stats but he made difficult to understand concepts so much easier. It is an assignment heavy class with labs and exams like most math classes, but if you show up, pay attention, and ask questions you will do fine! Take the time to study even if it is open book! I repeat take the time to study!!
I would never have survived this class without his note package. They are very straight to the point and helpful, very informative too! Make sure to use his note package to make little notes for yourself while you are going through lectures, makes everything so much easier. He's also good-looking LOL.
He's probably the biggest beauty in the stat department. He made a really bulky and time consuming course as painless as possible. He records every lecture and posts them with time stamps for each specific concept so it's really easy to find everything. 10/10
very organized and easy to understand
Brian is phenomenal. He's good at what he teaches and will go back and reexplain or answer questions if you don't understand. He can break up a intense lecture with a joke and it helps. Also, on nights before assignments or tests were do he would answer an email at 8pm. I recommend Brian. Great understanding guy.
Best statistics prof out there. Cares about his students. 10/10
He is an ok professor and sometimes its a little difficult to read his writing, but his YouTube videos are super helpful! He gives really great feedback on the stat assignments you do and gives lots of practice questions with the answer key before midterms and finals!
Brian is an excellent teacher. He was very helpful if you went to his office hours for help. He took the time in class to slow down and make sure everyone understood. Tests were fair if you did his practice exams, no textbook required for the class. Very impressed with his youtube videos that went over the entire lecture!
Brian is an absolute BEAST of a professor. Replies to emails quick, easy to get a hold of, explains things clearly, inspires you to succeed, gives a lot of practice Q's, and his notes are excellent. I didn't have to watch a single youtube video for any topic - he really is that good. Take his class, ask for help if you need it, and have fun.
I have Brian for STATS151 lab and he has saved my failing grade in the lectures by so much. Explains stuff super clearly and touches on things explained in lectures in a much more understanding way. Accessible outside of class and funny too. During labs, he gives time to work on assignments and goes to each student individually to help when needed.
I love Brian.
I wasn't even in his class but attended it anyway, and it was the only reason I passed Stats 151. He is really good at explaining and going over examples and always wants to do his best to help every single student in his lectures. If you are taking statistics, you want him as your professor, he is probably the best one at Macewan.
One of my favourite teachers I have ever had. Accessible and wants you to succeed. I struggled with math for most of my life but he was very invested to see his students succeed. I will enroll in any class he is teaching over other professors.
Honestly would not have passed without Brian. He really cares about his students and is always willing to help. I wasn't in his lecture but I watched his recorded lectures on YouTube and it helped immensely. He explains things so clearly and goes through many examples. 10/10 recommend taking his class he is the best.
Amazing teacher, recommend! We didn't have midterms, instead we had 3 quizzes 10% each and you were allowed a cheat sheet for quizzes and the final. Easy final as well!
Brian is great, he has a Youtube channel so tbh showing up to class is not mandatory per-say. He calls his midterms "Quizzes" they are 5 question and you get a cheat sheet. His final was only on lecture sets 8-12 so it made it nice to not be stressed about learning everything. This class takes a lot of studying but Brian is always there to help out.
A very good prof. Always replies quickly via email. In exams, some questions can be tricky, so be ready for it. Overall, the exams are average level if you practice for the practice midterms and finals. another plus point is his lectures are available on YouTube, so you can study the same material online and show up on exams! 6 assign, 6 lab report
He's the GOAT of Stats! You're in good hands with him!
He's amazing at his job makes difficult concepts seem easy and he's also funny
By far the best prof. He cares about his students doing well and posts practice midterms and final that are similar to the actual tests. Would highly recommend taking his class!
Great prof. Accessible outside of class. Flexible with grading.
The lectures in his class are very boring or he makes them boring . I was confused in his class through out the semester. Also he's very disrespectful when you ask him for help and not helpful at all when he does help.
I don't actually have him as my lecture prof, but I was so confused with my own lectures and found him online! His lectures saved me I really though I would fail LOL
Great lecture and explanation. Going to lecture is totally worth it.
He explained things so nicely, the whole course was so cohesive. He also explained complex concepts so well.
Amazing Prof, explains concept clearly. I had him for both the lab and lecture, exams are fair, so are assignments. He is always available for help and his labs never ran the full amount of time. Also he has a youtube channel with all his lectures and labs so great for final review.
Had him for Stat 151 Lab component, he was really good at explaining concepts for both Lab and lecture stuff after class. Very easy to understand, overall recommend you try to get in his class over other professors.
