Best prof ever!!
Stop reading the book-
Worst prof ever. No teaching ability and arrogant.
I found his class quite easy. He provided overheads, tons of practice questions, and even copies of old midterms to study from. He also posts video lectures from another section online. I would take another one of his classes.
funny prof but he is not willing to help his student.. instead he humiliate them and make them uncomfortable... i would not advice anyone to take any of his class.
entertaining guy. accounting MCs are hard, so MAKE SURE you do your assignments and the practical midterm. gaber and hayes electronic book is really tedious to read. overall Gaber is okay. nothing special and not too bad
very boring... a bit messy (writes half of the page, then erases it b/c he did smth wrong.) but he is not bad.
He is not willing to help those who need it. Provides lots of overheads, however he is not articulate. His exams do not cover what he has taught and are open to subjectivity.

He's very boring. He tried to be interesting, but it doesn't work. His lecture is a powerful sleeping pill. The online labs are useful. However, in the exam, the questions are somewhat irrelevant, about the rules of GAAP or other sort of accounting association which nobody cares.
I feel bad for you if your stuck in his class. Unfortuately there is only one alternative to this prof...and I dont know how she is.
VERY BORING Always wants to use the entire three hours for class!! Unfortunately his lectures are important and watching them online is torture. Do yourself a favor and attend his class or risk watching marathons of his online lectures days before exams. Only alternative: Louise Hayes (equally terrible prof)
Sooooo boring! I think he is also falling asleep when he hears his own voice! He makes this course so hard! don't go to class cause he'll mess your brain up! He doesn't care for students and you can't contact him directly. Stay home and study yourself you'll do better. If you have a chance - take it with anybody else.
he's so boring that he puts himself to sleep. i never went to a single class but then i realized that watching the online lectures was even more torturous.
boring lectures...very very very long lectures..study the textbook and slides nd do the practice questions...attend the tutorials..no use going to lectures.!!..he shud make the material more interesting..thts wht he is there for..not to make it more boring than wht it already is.!!
His lectures are the worst. he doesnt open his mouth when he talks. he is helpful. midterm test wasnt so clear.
DON'T GET FOOLED! Exams for a 2000 level are the hardest, he makes it to be that hard, he has some sort of his own system, a typical, but very clever accountant, CA! Teaching not related to exams, which are very well done to eliminate grad school possibilities. Combine this crap yourself and eat through it. Go to war w/o a gun and try to win it. Inefficient for students and university. Drains the Life out of you. "Stuckiest". Bad overall impression, corruption in university. I will never forget it. BelCRV junk
I think he is a really cool prof. he tries to make the exam very easy. he is very lenient, professional and smart.
I really dont know why everyone hates this professor, this is a university level course and he is not going to spoonfeed you the information. I learned a lot and he was very helpful and clear, but a bit boring. I was not a big fan of the dvd textbook and the first exam had a lot of irrelevant questions
Pretty bad professor. Knows his stuff, but unwilling to help / impossible to reach him. If you're taking this course, YOU will be teaching it to yourself, not Gaber. Stuff that is on DVD is extremely useless and gives only the basic picture of what you'll have to do for labs/exam (HAAARAD). I'm not even sure why I have to pay money for this course.
This is the type of course where you need to learn most of the material on your own. That's what I did and only went to lectures occasionaly. I got an A in the course, but I did study for it. I have no complaints about the prof. He's not the most interesting guy, but from an academic standpoint, he's knowledgeable and a good teacher.
I had this prof a while back. What he teaches in class didnt show up on tests, he bell curved a lot for the course, but my advice would be to all of you is just stick it out. The accounting profs get a lot better after him, and you will thank god for actual textbooks instead of that crappy CD.
He made a useful course useless. He is knowledgable but being knowledgable is not enough, he should know how to teach and he doesn't. Yeah, there are tons of problems on lyryx but it would be better if he actually solved some in the class. He talks for 3 hours and u r just like wut! BTW don't take 15+ credits if u r taking this course..
Not a thrilling lecturer, but very knowledgeable, and more than willing to answer questions before/during/after class. Even if they're not related directly to the course. A smaller class size would suit him much better though.
He is a really nice guy, and he is really fair to the students, but his exams are really hardddddddddddd...make sure you do the labs and the term project, you can get good marks from them but they only woth 20%. Do the practice exams he posts, and if you find them hard, then you will find the exam questions unsolvable.

It's true that his class is boring and I really don't like the exam of MC. But he really helps students to get their highest grade!!! During this strike, he tried to give us chance as more as he could to make up our grade!!!! This course need read, read and read!!! Work hard and you will get A!!!
the course is hard, because it is a lot of information. he is ok prof just not very interactive. I do advice to go to lectures because watching it at home is just impossible. Do labs and term project, also do all questions for each module. Midterm was hard, but i found final easy and i got a good mark. Just do study a lot and you will get an A
Horrible prof.! Knows his stuff, but definately does not know how to teach it! Do not take this course as 5th subject. A lot of work, those lyrax labs and term project take a LOT of your time. Concentrate on his ppt lectures for midterm and best of luck for the final! Bell curve is your hope to pass!
One of the hardest ADMS courses! Prof cant teach so you'll basically be teaching yourself. My advice is to do all the online labs (this is where you'll do all your learning) and forget about the course cd. borrow an accounting textbook from a friend instead. the term project will take up all of your tiem so start early! and the exams are killer!
What a terrible professor! FORGET about the CD it is absolutely useless, you are better off paying for the lyryx registration yourself (about 15 bucks) and borrowing a REAL accounting textbook from the library
He is way too hard. He goes into tremendously difficult concepts in his lectures. He does answer his e-mails but with about a 2 month delay. Make sure to steer clear of him. The only reason I achieved a B+ is because a family member is an accountant. Rip off $80 DVD disc was the course "textbook".
Good luck!! He might be good for the accountants but not for the beginners! don't expect to learn anything from him. The midterm was OK but the final was extremely hard.
His lectures are interesting but slow, and only scratch the surface of everything you need to know to do well. DVD is useless. Get another book, and start your Lyryx labs as early as possible. Always attend your TA sessions if stuck. This course is very frustrating but very useful. ALWAYS STAY WAY AHEAD OF YOUR DUE DATES, OR DIE!
His DVD is poorly written, has frustrating typos and unfinished sentences. our Midterm average was 31%. Lyryx labs is where you will learn the course (as frustrating they will be at first). Fortunately, Brian Gaber was publicly executed by York University a long time ago for being possibly the worst prof ever, but you are in an alternate universe.
Anyone who says they like this class, or this prof, already knows this material, and probably is Brian Gaber. There is nothing good about it unless you like being tested on things vaguely touched on in all the poorly written course materials. He does not deserve your money for the DVD. I will put it up online for free if you can find it.
i will be burning a copy of the dvd and handing them out for free before next semester, as no one should have to pay 40 dollars for it, its useless. The exams were horrid, and they had nothing to do with the content we learned. Only way to pass is get 100% on modules and term project, and hope the exams are bellcurved.
Horrid. Learn the concepts from another Textbook. The labs and term project are time-consuming and only worht 20% of your overall grade. I get a sense that he is very content on making sure class average stays max 60% if you are lucky...cross your fingers and hope that you score in the upper tier of the exam and ghet bell curved even higher.
This prof is a smart person, no doubt about that, but how he teaches is another thing. He could not convey the materials very well. Lectures were boring and I didn't really learn much from him. Exams were hard, and the mock exams that he posted, were barely the same. Not recomended to anyone unless if u have an accounting background.
Possibly one of the worst professors at yorku. Doesn't understand that students are taking other coures. Gives u way too much work, and is no help. Thinks using a damn CD textbook is much better than an actually book! Unfortunately, he is usually the only prof that teaches this course, so everybody's stuck with him! =(
Sadly, this prof made me rethink my choice of majoring in accounting. I got an A in both economics and calculus the same year. However, I struggled to get a B in his class. He is MONOTONE, lectures put you 2 sleep. Textbook is USELESS. Tests r extremely hard. NOT GOOD FOR BEGINNERS. Hopefully the accounting profs @ York get better after this guy...
Does not know how to make accounting interesting...i am an accounting major and really love the world of accounting yet he rather mumble about his random stories instead of giving us good review topics PS. Tests are pretty tough
This prof is smart but he should not be teaching.
After 5 years and almost 25 courses he is in my top 3 fav. profs. Yes, he is scary at first but attend his lectures and you'll see he has a great sense of humour. Re. the cd text, it's not f-ing rocket science, it's just as easy to read and shorter than normal texts. Good luck!
Very knowledgeable professor but he cannot teach! Hard to follow in class. Reads off slides. Book is a useless DVD that he wrote. I managed to get B because I studied on my own from books that I found. Online LABs are waste of time.
Dvd book sucks. Labs take a long time to do. Teaching is fair. Bad course.
He makes u do way too much work and his exams are way too difficult. He doesn't realize that students are taking other courses that are equally important as ADMS 2500 in their program.
this dude is a an epic fail of a prof his lecturers and material have nothing to do with the course and majority of the time all he talks about is intermediate accounting which only accounting majors will be doing. if u value your gpa stay away from this guy
Taken over summer. He enjoys sticking his middle finger up in class reminiscing of past exams and how students may have felt about them. Mild humor. Text not that useful. Recommend getting own. Uses Bell curve.
Bad apple to the power of infinity. Doesn't teach well if you ask a question he will drag on about his mom and neighbor instead of getting to the point and you will leave without getting the answer. Bad part is all the adms 2500 classes are marked by him. Whether you he is your instructor or not he will mark your work very hard. Sample exam useless
I didn't come to bash him simply because I got an A+ in his course, so it's not impossible to have a good mark in his class. Just a word of advice, pay careful attention to his lecture slides - his exams are very much based on them, go to tutorials and do practice questions, either from his dvd book &/or other accounting books.
I dont get it why some many people are bothering the teaching style of the prof. As what I see, he is really knowledgeable and can explain everything in detail for this course. Even though you may feel a little bit boring while listening to the lecture, but it is really what you get to adapt to. Remember, accounting just cannot be easy.

Lectures are horribly, horribly boring, Gaber himself is no help at all. The DVD (written by him) is a terrible substitute for an actual textbook (practice questions help though). Labs and the term project aren't hard to get high marks on. Exams can be unclear at times. You'll need an actual textbook and the luck of the Irish to pull a decent mark.
He was a good man, our class failed horribly and he bumped up all our marks. Yes, even though his CD was completely useless, his lectures are basically the ANSWERS to our midterms and finals IF you CAN pay attention without falling asleep. However, everyone choose to skip class .. he wasn't that bad.

Assignments and labs were easy. Tutorials helped a lot. Even thoughI showed up to all the lectures and practiced a ton of problems, I still got a D+. Never has that ever happened to me! Gaber's exams will catch you off guard. He tells you to study for one thing and you find that the exam is the total opposite. He's also a very tough marker
He was alright. 2nd time taking it after getting a D with a Korean TA (Gaber was off that semister due to strike). Got a B+ with Gaber. Things to know: 1)DITCH the CD (waste of time) 2)Take the internet class since you can speed him talking 3)Do the Lyryx and assignment 4)Do problems from CD textbook. You will get minimum C+ and he will bump you up
Not sure how he got his PhD or his teaching license. Cannot even add, tell's story's throughout class, wasted my time and money. Glad I took it online. All he does is crack jokes, give us irrelevant information to his life, and makes simple mathematical errors on a weekly basis (at least 3-5 addition/subtraction errors a lecture)..unbelievable
HARDEST EXAMS EVER!!!! Likes to fail students then "bell curve" marks. Lectures are irrelevant and does NOT prepare you for his exams. Brutal! Waste of my time and money. York needs to get a new 2500 prof to replace this guy ASAP! Gaber gets a good laugh from pocketing all our money and teaching us NOTHING. I hate accounting so much because of him.
The REAL problem with ADMS 2500 with Gaber is the text that is used. It is VERY poorly written and disorganized. It is unclear and ridden with mistakes. The course would be a whole lot better if a well-written text were assigned rather than Gaber's text.
People if you don't want to fail the course DON"T TAKE HIM!!!!
Not very helpful. Worst part about course is the term project which is very confusing.
I had no accounting background before this course. It is all about practicing the theory. He is a unique prof. It's clear he has been teaching this course for a long time, but at least he appeared to enjoy teaching. Other who rated him poorly likely did not work closely with the TA's, who have been helpful in explaining many theories.
If you want to ace this class get 100% in the labs and at least 90 in the term project and do relatively good in the 2 midterms so when you have to write the final you will be more relaxed. He takes some questions from the practice problems (connect website)and uses them for the midterms/final. Read his presentation slides.
Got an A. Get full marks in the lab and at least a 90 in the term project. Do all the practice problems and make sure you get past exams. If you fail this class you are either really dumb or just a slacker. Watch the online lectures and go to tutorials. Go to grace's tutorial --> best ta around
This is NOT a hard course, it is only hard if you don't do your work. Whatever he did in class was on the midterms, multiple choice is almost identical with homework problems. He explains everything well, he has a type of voice that puts you to sleep, but he is not a bad prof. Just go to lectures, don't fall behind, and do ALL the problems
He was a good professor for financial accounting but you need to do the work in order to get the grade.

Honestly, I am very familiar with the material as I have been taken intermediate accounting before and the wording he used sometimes make me confusing because it is not professional accounting wording. The practice problems have so many typos. He should stop using his own book as this is the worst accounting textbook I have ever read. AVOID!
He's not too bad. He goes at a slow pace. Do your work and you should be fine for the exams. Learned how to use accounting software which was a plus.
Prof.Gaber is very knowledgable in his field. However, that does not make one a considered to be a good teacher. His tests are harder than the practice problems in the course. He also likes to trick you with wording on midterms and exams. I do not think that is the way to test a person's knowledge on a subject.
Textbook is written by him, go figure. Exams are hard, class average were around 45%. Very boring lectures. Lazy professor though great T.A's. I think the prof should be working in a accounting firm then teaching.
He knows his stuff very well however, the lecture material is not enough to prepare you for the exam imo. Some of the m/c questions can be tricky so you need to know your concepts inside out very well. His Ebook is terrible and so i ended up borrowing a textbook from scott which was more clearer and had more examples. Good luck.
He wrote the textbook and it comes with audio recordings. The textbook is very poorly written and the audio tapes are so unmotivating. I had to go online to teach myself the textbook concepts because it was unclear everytime.
I've been very disappointed by the textbook(ebook) they use which was written by professor. In my opinion, it is VERY POOR quality. And I'm pretty sure ebook contains 10% ASSIGNMENT questions so it forces you to BUY it no matter what or you just lose 10%. I'm a accounting specialized major and studied accounting before but this was disappointing
E-textbook is terrible. You will find more typos than practical information, and won't explain anything in detail. His wording is extremely vague and unclear yet writes our exams, with an occasional wrong answer on his own questions. He doesn't even seem to know how an annuity works. He shouldn't even bother trying to teach it.
Worst prof in history, very boring and just wants to earn a pay cheque. Responds to emails with a copy and pasted message, doesn't care about students and the exams are always a surprise!
People think he is bad prof because the exam is too hard for a introduction course. However, he teaches well and really knowledgeable in his field. In fact, if you are in accounting stream, the majority of profs you are going to encounter later are not as good as him.
