Good professor; funny; interesting; really knows his stuff. Just take notes on his lectures and what he writes on the board, don't miss classes and you will do just fine.

Had this as a 3-week crash course...from the other ratings I was hesitant about this guy...but he was very decent! Easy mult. choice tests, watched a couple movies, pretty good at relating material. Easy A class. Might be offensive to some, but I doubt it. Enjoyed this class/teacher.

Tests are multiple choice and based only on the lectures.Does use some profanity.Likes to use sex as a reference during lectures.Test are not hard if you take good notes and study.

Uses profanity VERY frequently. Tests are sometimes poorly worded but relevant to info provided in class. Interrupts students/jumps the gun to cover info when students are giving oral presentations. Does not tolerate arguments on quiz results. Gave 5 pts extra credit for staying the entire 4-hr class. Didn't have any conflict with him, others did.

Loved him, he was very funny and energetic..Easy A. Just listen to his lectures and what he writes on the board. His grades are test based..Loved him and would recommend

This guy is GREAT!!! Funny and he knows Socy..easy to understand and pass his class. Make sure u take good notes and come to class for lectures..this is what the test are based on. He makes class very interesting and the time goes by rather quick..even if it is a 4hr class..I highly recommend him!!

Reading all the reviews before I took this class made me a bit scared, but after I actually started the class I loved it. LOTS of the questions on the tests come from his NOTES!! AND BOOK!!! You really have to read both. Hes really cool, and there's no homework. And no final exam. Just 6 tests. He does offer ec on every test. Recommend!!

Awesome and cool teacher :) Study your book and notes!! In order to do good. And 4 hour lectures go by quick because hes really funny

Cool guy. Dr. G. was great at explaining things. Really knows his stuff. He had lots of real life experience that he used in explanations which is a change for most professors I had who only taught and had no experience in what they taught. he was one of the best professors I had.

Very smart. Gives plenty of x-credit. Unlike other profs at macomb I've had he really knows his stuff. You learn more than just about psy. I can see how some may not like him. He can be strict and no nonsense in dealing with silliness. Very knowledgable, interesting, fair, informative, recommend.

I thought he wa really smart. Very nice, joked. Test are hard but he give plenty of e-credit. He will help you and if you ask questions, he will give you plenty of feedback. Provides nice examples that help you understNd hard material.

I had the same course as the other person but came away with different impression. I thought he was good. However, some people cannot be satisfied. Dr. G was a nice person, and he provided more x-credit than any other prof I had and so I have no problem with that. Always responded to emails. I would take again.

Wow! Surprised by the one evaluation since I had the same course. I guess you cannot satisfy all people. Some people were unhappy from day one. Oh well, I thought dr g was nice, fair and smart. Very knowledgable. Plenty of xcredit that helps your grade. I would take him again.

He spent a great deal of time making things clear. Used good examples. Bonus points really helped. had with another professor, had a difficult time understanding and had to drop. Did much better with Dr. G. He made it easier to understand.

ZERO HOMEWORK! Exam given every other week from the book and his lectures. In between exam weeks there's a short quiz worth 10 extra points if you ace it. He gives a few extra points as well if you stay the whole class. No phones or you'll lose points. Overall I liked him and not too tough. Need to test well though due to no homework.

Excellent! Had Dr. Garavgli for 5 12 hour Saturday course and he made time go by fast. His lectures and humor made class fun. Gave a lot of extra credit that you still had to earn. Very nice and very smart. Want to take another course with him.

Best prof I had at OCC. Took psychology with him in summer. I want to take another course with him. His lectures really easy to follow. He has a lot of experience and a lot of knowledge that makes him really interesting.

I wrote this again since it did not post previously. Wow previous student post not sure where that came from. Dr. G. was great. Lectures were clear and informative. Provided study questions for tests. Serious about what he teaches but stills jokes and is relaxed and easygoing got an A and had no problems.

Took this course twice. the first time I took it the prof was interested in being everyone's friend and tell her stories. I didn't do well and took again with Dr. G. What a difference. I learned. He knows what he is talking about and is interested in teaching and having people learn. I thought he was great!

He's a good prof if you actually bother. The class in general is interesting, all QZs are extra credit if you 100%. Questionnaires are helpful for the exams and the QZs. He does only lecture with some movies, so if you're bored, work on your other classes. NO ELECTRONICS. If he sees or hears them, each time is -10 points. You've been warned.

Psychology is not one of my strenths. I got a B and was happy. The professor was very good at providing help. The book was not very good, lectures were often able to make your understand the stuff better. He was very smart and provided helpful hints on how to study. able to speak with to help you.

Garavaglia is incredibly knowledgeable about what he is lecturing! He adds sprinkles of humor here and there into his lectures, though they tend to be extensive. He gives out work that is not required to do but if you do it, it will most definately help you be better prepared for the tests and come to understand the material :)

I read the last couple of students Evaluations and I was surprised. I like him. He teaches a lot not likes others that just say get in groups. He was like the profs I had at Wayne state that knew what they were teaching so maybe that is why I view him differently. And really he gives a lot of opportunities for you to do good.

Ok, I took Dr, G for child development. I liked him. People used computers to take notes so I dont know what the other person was talking about. He wa one of the better profs I had at Oakland. On tests he raises everyones grade by a half grade more and that is great! So no complaints and hes funny.

He is very intelligent and really knows his stuff. He opened my eyes to things I was not aware of. He give lots of extra credit. I enjoyed him and the class. I thought class was easy and he is very fair. He does not allow phone use in class but states this inhis class rules. Tests are not that difficult if you do practice questions.

Good teacher overall however, I did feel a bit mislead when I got the final grade back. The class is based on 6 exams and 1 final. If you score above 80% on the final your grade in the class is increased by 5%, or that was what I thought. Apparently you get moved up 1 letter grade. I was less than a % away from the A- so my grade was increased >1%.

Failed class with another instructor. Took with Dr. G and did well. He is excellent at explaining information. Gives you a lot of information that you helps you like practice questions, alot are on the test and he gives alot of opportunities for extra credit. he is enthusiastic and you can tell he takes teaching seriously.

We had to go to on line because of virus. Dr G moved us from in class to on line in a very organized way. Recognized the stress of the change and he was really good at being accommodating. Really good professor.

I had him in-class before the Covid thing made use move to online. He actually made the online transition easy for use. He kept us informed through Canvas and email. He provided additional info on Canvas for us. He provided practice questions and a lot of extra credit. Really a great professor

I very much enjoyed this class. It was very unfortunate that we had to transfer to online classes because of covid. I enjoyed listening to his lectures. He teaches in a way that makes you want to learn and want to be there as opposed to so many teachers that just read from a power point. I would definitely recommend Dr.G.

I have Dr. G for a class that became a totally online course. I have to say I was nervous about an online course, but dr. G really made it interesting. He uses interesting videos, interesting reading, zoom conferences, tests and really important is he provides lots of feedback in emails, announcements,etc. really enjoying course great prof.

I had him for an online course because of covid. I am getting an A in the class. Keeps class informed with weekly announcements. Provides alot of feedback through emails, communications on canvas, zoom. He provided alot of assignments and many are not real difficult. Provides practice questions for tests and powerpoints. Really good.

Prof Garvglia--Hey he gives you x-credit, pract questions, Pow Points, emails, wk comm, many assignments/tests/quizzes. I see some complain below, but I was at a University before covid and every course was midterm/final/15-20 page paper/proj, and little if any prof communicate. So give me prof G for all my courses.

Finished course on line with prof yesterday. Most assignments were smaller and pretty easy. Extra credit great. Raises all test grades a full half grade more than your original gradewhich is FANTASTIC! Pretty generous. Uses older version of book you get on Amazon for much cheaper. Material is interesting. Great course!

I had him for online due to Covid. Not use to taking online so I was scared at first. Prof made it comfortable. Communicated a lot by email and canvas and zoom. A lot of videos and small assignments that are pretty interesting. Tests usually only on 2 or so chapters. X-credit, practice questions. I recommend him.

Professor Garavaglia gives a lot of extra credit. He is very blunt with his feedback but he will definitely give you an insight on how to do better. He also gives about 5 extra points for each exam which is very helpful and there is no final.

Pleasantly surprised. Most profs at Macomb not much different than high school teachersno experience other than teaching. Dr gargli had written books, papers, worked in many areas he taught and taught more than sociology. What experiece and knowledge! He teaches you to succeed. This is what a prof is supposed to be. Really enjoyed!

Material interesting. There is xcredit. Tests and assignments are not that difficult especially with practice questions. Prof is good and informative.

Class-interesting Prof-excellent Zoom-OKAY but compared to other courses he did it regularly and consistently Class structure- i thought it was easy to follow. Difficulty- not real difficult. Great class!

Professor Garavaglia is very informed on what he teaches. You can tell he is very passionate about teaching. But, his online setup was very poor and it felt like I was learning less than what I should. He sometimes takes up 4 hours of meeting time ranting about a single topic that sometimes has no relevance to the subject.

Online courses like this are difficult for me. Dr. G course was was set up pretty well and I felt comfortable asking him questions by email. This made it less difficult. The practice and the extra credit really helped.

His online course was laid out pretty easy. I am not a computer wiz but could follow it easily. Prof easy to work with if you have questions. Nice guy. Very pleasant on zoom. Good practice questions.

I enjoyed this course. The prof and the course were my favorites this semester. It actually made me view and think about things quite differently. You can tell that Dr Gar is very enthusiastic about education and learning. That was refreshing. He speech to us on zoom about the importance of education. Really inspiring

At had this course previously with a different professor and did not do well. I took it again with Dr. G. What a difference! He is excellent! Structured-yes; organized-yes; knowledgbeable--very knowledgeable; helpful--yes. He is a great prof, providing knowledge and not just trying to be a friend like many profs do.

I actually am taking my first online course. I was a little scared about that. Actually prof garbavaglia was very good at communicating and making sure people were staying on course and requesting and answerirng any questions if U had them. I am really enjoying his class. he does make you work. I am hoping thou to get an A or hi B.

I am anticipating nothing less than A. With all the extra credit, it is hard to do bad in the course. Everything is laid out for you. Prof does great job at making class a really good experience. I recommend taking him.

I got an A. Dr. G made the course pretty easy. You had to study for the tests, do the assignments, and read and take some notes. Other than that it was very straight up. Great course.

I did not think I would like this course. I actually ended up really enjoying it. Dr.G made the course clear and I thought he was really good professor.

Best course and prof I had so far. For me it was an easy A. If you do the assignments, extra credit, and follow the class outline I do not see how you cannot get good grade. The book is ok but free. Lectures are great support and helps to make things clear. He communicates and keeps you informed about thing really well.

I had dr. garvagia for sociology. The course was 8 weeks so it went pretty fast. So if you take an 8 week course you have to know it goes pretty quick. I did pretty good. He had everything outlined pretty nice. A little tough on the writing assignments. But plenty of extra credit. Class pretty interesting.

Responds to emails quickly and is more than willing to help if you have questions. Majority of the assignments were timed quizzes (6 min), so reading / watching videos and taking notes is NECESSARY TO PASS. He also offers extra credit for each unit and a 5% boost on all tests when done on-time.

Dr. Garvagla was excellent. Well organized class. He provides assignments to keep you busy. He provide great communication thru emails, weekly class announcements, and responses back to your questions that make thing really clear. He provides plenty of x-credit opportunities and appears to be caring and helpful. Great prof.

I had dr Garvalia for a recent online course. Actually compared to other online courses I had this course was really a great improvement. Really good organization, lots of extra credit, the prof was responsive to email quickly. He graded slightly difficult on writing assignments, but he provided great feedback .Course and prof great!

I had this prof for a summer social problems course. At first I thought it was going to be tough being a eight-week course. However, it turned out to be really great. Also, topics were interesting as well.

Overall was a great professor, just grades discussion questions like they're English papers. He will mark down points for some pretty stupid things, but his tests and other assignments are pretty straight forward. Funny guy, but lectures tended to be boring unless the class participated.
