very direct and stern, disrespectful sometimes; good course tho
Improved a lot! More respectful for students. Effective teaching.

Horrible! Doesn't provide straight answers. I don't think he knows the math part of the module.
Hard a the begining but it gets easy later...!
Very helpful in class and especially outside of class
Had tutorials and was good use of cases. Listened to student concerns.
Best teacher in OpLog at this level. Very easy to talk to. You have to do work but very rewarding
Explains things very clearly with examples from his work. Will runt tutorials if asked and is a nice guy to exchange students.
Uses cases to reinforce the text. Prof gives time in class for questions. Helpful outside of class and gives repsect for everyone.
Good course to finish TLog
Lots of case work along with lectures. Good breaks and available for extra help. Great instructor
Happy course. Professor nice to international
Good teacher and will post notes before the class. Kind to all students and will spend time with students needing help. Good for international woman students.
He's ok.
He's such a wonderful professor. One of the best i've ever had. You can tell that he's one of those professors who really love teaching - you see it on a daily basis. He's so open to thoughts & comments and doesnt expect you to just absorb the material, but actually argue against it! he really makes GBiz interesting.
Great professor, very knowledgeable, communicates well and most importantly knows how to teach!
Brian's lectures are fun and interesting. He encourages discussion and uses great real world examples. Very helpful in office hours, and embraces technology (Email/FaceBook/IM). Very fair exams. This man clearly loves his job. More profs should be like him!
Behind his jovial demeanor, he's a kind and considerate prof who's willing to help you out. He's one of the rare profs who'd actually pick up his phone if you need help, so take advantage of that. Cases are fun. Take this course instead of Comm 458.
Wrong! Wrong! Brian is a great teacher, goes out of his way to help students. He is always available to help online and is willing to listen to us on grading and asisgnments. TAKE Brian for 399.
We have to take 399. Brian is open to questions about marks. I learned a lot from him.
He's alright. One of the better 399 Profs. Dry class though
good, make sure you attend all classes because material is covered fast!
He likes to teach and really passionte. assignments are important and reflect exam material and leniet marking
pretty good at delivering the course material, as boring as it is but his assessments of attendance and the term project are ridiculous. Only prof ever to fail the class, on avg, in participation in my yrs at Sauder, which is stupid in lectures of 50. Brags about his money alot. Nothing special as a prof.. Lazy. Exam came from online sources lol
Boring lecturer...... read the book and you don't have to go to class. Apparently other profs are just as bad though
Great class on OM. Brian is open to class needs.
Better that anyone else.
MT is easy. Final is more difficult.
brian makes a mandatory course interesting.
Very good communication. Best prof for 399.
Bad jokes in a good course.
Not a bad course. Brian was very clear on most things.
Assginments were useful for the exams. The project is a lot of work and fun too.
class average was very high up until participation and group project were graded. Don't be fooled by the easy assignments, midterm and final because you'll end up losing a letter grade if you don't actively participate in class and do well on your group assignment, which he marks very difficult. If you don't participate a lot, don't try very hard.
course was okay as long as you participated a lot.
Good course and better prof
You can talk to Brian about changing mark. The course delivered what it said and Brian kept is interesting.
You can talk to Brian about changing marks. The course delivered what it said and Brian kept it interesting.
Not a good professor. Not sure if he really understands exactly what he is teaching because he does an awful job of communicating it to the class. Very illogical in his processes. Marks on assignments and term projects are very arbitrary
The project was the best part. The assignments and midterm were great and the final was fair. Take Brian for 399.
Course is fine and Brian has bad jokes but is a good instructor.
Lots of work. Brian is a good instructor.
Take stats with Brian - very clear and helpful before the assignment.
Listens to us. Changes the teaching method.
Brian was very good on the feedback. He gives great examples.
Super mt preparation and hints!
The last case was great and a lot of work. Brian provided a super tutorial and fb advice. Take Brian for 398 to learn.
The case work was great (read The Goal if offered!) but the workload was tough. But, the harder you worked, the more you learned. Demands a lot from his students, but was one of the most helpful profs I've ever had. Thanks BG!
Statistics as an early class is deadly. Brian made it easy to keep up and I appreciated his online help. Brian enjoys teaching and makes you work but I at least learned about regression.
Final exam was hard. Brian was the best prof for statistics. He was online a lot to help me and others in the class.
Definitely the worst prof I've ever had in Sauder/UBC. Fortunately I dug deep into the content of the course, and earned an A+.
I think he has high ratings for other comm courses, but I am not too sure about Comm 291.. Many times I walked out of his class very confused, and by the end of the course, the student attendance was very low. All comm 291 sections write the same mt and final
The course is totally amazing and Brian is the most generous and helpful prof. Take Brian for anything in operations.
Good prof who gave us an example for almost every class. Spent a lot of time online if you wanted to use fb.
We have to take the course and Brian was fantastic. Make sure you understand the evaluation tho - got dinged on participation
The Beer Game was fun and the assignments were good preparation for the mt and final. Project took a lot of time and was the best part of the course. Prof Brian was always available for help so take 399 with him.
We did two online simulations which were a lot of fun. The cases took a lot of time and effort and the results kept getting better. Keep up with the reading and choose The Goal for the midterm.
Brian gave examples in class and was always prepared. While not the most fun (what stats clss is?) he did an awesome job with what he had.
Assignments were excellent preparation for the mt and the Beer Game funny. The project was the best part but marking on it was hard. Take Brian for 399 - at least he is passionate and available for help.
Graystone rules at WU- super fun classes and cases.
Attended WU summer university. Learned I-SCM from Brian- wonderful prof and excellent teacher.
Brian was a prof who cared about helping students. He also insisted on participation so beware. Take advantage of his online help in fb.
Super prof for a compulsory course.
horrendous
Awesome prof! Brian keeps my interest every class. Jokes are terrible tho.
Caring prof!Brian is open to our needs. He held a tut for a case - noone else does this.
Simulation in class today. Crazy good.
Please do not take him. I dont get why people even rated him that high. When we ask him a question in class, he asks us back the question and at the end of the day, we walk out of the class clueless. When we asked him about degrees of freedom, he got angry when nobody knew how to answer it.Puts people on the spot too. Tends to pick on girls more...
Never provide clear guidelines for project. Participation mark given by him is vague and unfair. If I were given another chance, I will never take his class again. Most students complain that there's too much workload, and boring class.
Avoid him at all cost, take Tim Hugh. I want to drop him after 2 weeks into his class. No clear guideline for projects which is like 20% of the overall mark. When you email him for guideline he did not provide clear explanation. Always try to show off his language skill in class which is very annoying.
I came here to give BG a great review and saw the negatives. As for 291 that was last year so get over it dude. For 399 negatives it's the same person for a bunch of reviews. You probably failed the midterm and don't attend classes. BG is a GREAT professor who explains things clearly and is always available for help. I would take him for ANY course
I like how Brian explains the ideas and the does an example. Participation is hard but he did say how he scores us many times.
Beer Game was awesome. Brian gives a lot of information for the presentations and was flexible on the final report. Take him for 399.
You should take Brian for courses. The workload is a bit higher than other courses but I am learning a lot.
We have to take 399. Brian makes it interesting and uses examples to clearly explain the difficult chapters. If you attend class and participate, you will get a good mark.
398 uses a lot of cases which was the best way to learn about processes. Take Brian for this course if you can.
What a great prof! Available at all hours and patient. Explains concepts with clarity and some humour -which helps.
Beer game and bullwhip - what more do you need? Like the course and the Brian even better. He used a good mix of the book and cases to keep me interested.
terrible prof, knows what he's talking about but explains it horrendously and just confuses everyone, puts wrong things in his notes 'on purpose' to see if you are 'paying attention' but when you ask him to explain it he starts stuttering and says he will email you to explain (just buying time), very vague marking, gives bad feedback, avoid him!
Brian is caring and easy to approach. Wonderful prof, the best in Sauder. Get into his section, he's just awesome.
One of the best profs i ever had at Sauder. He is online for whatever help you need.
He is the best prof at Sauder. Take him.
Super course and even better prof. Explains complex operations very clearly especially for the exam.
What a great prof. He's so helpful and patient. Everyone loves him. Take him for this course.
No doubt one of the better profs around Sauder.
I don't understand why he is rated so high. Very unclear and ambiguous in teaching. Purposely puts mistakes in slides to 'catch students' attention'. Impatient and seems offended all the time when a student asks him a question. occasionally tries to crack up a bad joke. Possibly one of the worst profs i've had in Sauder-most of my classmates agree.
I simply do not understand how Brian has this high rating. When lecturing he asks obvious questions and makes a big deal out of the answer. That along with the repeated bad jokes make him annoying to listen to, and therefore hard to focus on the course material. Out of 10 people between two sections I have talked to, no-one likes him.
In my experience, he is very clear and patient. Good sense of humour. Everyone loves him!
I hope he teaches other courses. I want another class with Brian.
A long final exam but no surprises. Should get a good mark. You just need to follow the example questions.
Did super well on the final which was long. Brian rules.
I took the course last year. If you can get into Brian's class - do it! A lot of work sometimes but I learned a lot.
The assignments are long but I like the class a lot.
