It's chemistry, so it is a difficult course for most people. He is a decent teacher, although he made alot of spelling, grammar, and math errors. Maybe thats why he is teaching chem. His office is open if you need help or have questions. I recommend going to class because new equations and laws are taught just about every day.
I actually took him for gen. chm I & II at OTC, and he's probably the best teacher I've had so far. If you don't understand something, he will make sure you do. Just go to class and study and he will make sure you get at the very least a C!
A really nice guy but could not get me to understand the information whatsoever. ALOT of studying neccesary.
I didn't have chemistry in HS, so chm was a little harder for me than most. He did make several math errors even with his "trusty calculator". "The key to victory here is" that you go to class and get the notes & study. HW isn't required but good for practice. I didn't do the HW but the WS on blackboard helped. Don't forget to "kick it up a notch."
Highly recommended! He makes a complicated subject simple and interesting. If chemistry is hard for you or you didn't have it in HS, this class still might be difficult for you. Chemistry isn't easy, but if you go to class and study you will do fine.
Brian is a good teacher. He makes it easy to understand chemistry but you need to study if you want to get an A.
Class was no harder than my HS chemistry class. BDH is a good teacher and makes the topics incredibly easy to understand. He solves so many problems in class that if you pay attention you will only have to do minimal homework(I never opened my book and got an A). I can solve problems like Prof. High, but I still can't golf like Tiger Woods.
Great teacher! He wants you to understand and get a good grade.Willing to work with you any time he has free.Gives quizzes throughout course so you are prepared for tests.Chem has a lot of steps/rules and applying them to problems. So attending class is critical. You have to put in the time, but it's worth it.And he's very helpful.
Awesome teacher! Clear and understandable. Willing to help anyone. Funny and fair.
Great teacher! Very clear and goes over math calculations many times so you can understand how to do them. Very practical and helpful.
He is very clear and uses many examples for clarification. Definitely do the optional homework to help you study for exams.
"You can watch Tiger Woods play golf but that doesn't mean you can golf like him"-High. Just practice the chem and you will do well. I never took HS chem and I did well in this class. I recommend him to everyone. You will understand chem after taking his class. No HW really but occasional quiz. I enjoyed his class so much I'm taking him for 175.
His dry humor only makes his class worth coming to. he is an excellent teacher. He puts up all the notes on blackboard which some people didnt need to come to class but highly recomended. and the "homework problems" are exactly like the test. know those and you will pass with flying colors. he will always help! P.S. follow his keys to victory
The class wasn't too hard. Test aren't that bad but you have to go to class everyday and take notes to understand what he's saying. Do all the worksheets and go in if you need help. He's really helpful and explains things pretty well. overall, not that bad of a class.
I took Brian for 160 and now 175 and I still think he is on of the best teachers ever. He is very helpful and doesn't make you mess around with busy work or useless information in lab. He is entertaining and easy to understand. I would take him for any class you get the chance to!
Love love love this teacher! He is brilliant! I'd never had chem so I was CLUELESS. He was so helpful & crystal clear on the material. I am grateful he was my 1st chem teacher ~ now I have a great foundation. I liked him so much that I planned my entire schedule around his 175 class in the fall. Do the practice problems and you will rock the tests.
The attendance isn't mandatory, but it's necessary to get it. He's absolutely the best chem teacher I could've hoped for, and I'm definitely taking as many of my chem classes as possible with him. Just pay attention to him, because chem's never an easy subject, but he tries to make sure everybody gets it before moving on.
Fabulous teacher! Explains what you need and will spend time explaining in person.
Awesome professor. He is always willing to help and clearly explains everything. He's pretty funny too. "Keys to victory" are go to class and do the practice work taking him for 170 and 175 if his class is available
He is awesome. I am takeing him for 170 and 175 now. Do the work and your fine. If you need anything he will go out of his way to help. gives hella practice work for you. nothing is collected but tests and quizzes for grade. He gives a guide for all the problems in the book. there is no reason for such a failure rate in class with him as teacher.
awesome!
He is a great teacher for what he ha to teach. The material is hard, but he wants you to do well. He makes jokes, and tries to explain things in multiple ways. Take him if you have to take this class.
He really knows his stuff. You don't have to go to class, but I would recommend it. He gives random pop quizzes, which add up if you miss a few. If you've had any CHM before this course you'll do fine. You must study for his tests b/c they're only about 25 questions. He goes pretty quickly so watch out!
Very difficult material, but if you go to class and study well it can be conquered! He drops the lowest quiz and test grade, too!
I did not have a chemistry background at all and made a 58 on my first exam. The next exam, I studied very hard for and managed a 92. If you do not have a CHM background, you will have to work hard, but he is a GREAT instructor and is very helpful. Tough but fair. He uses the +/- system. Liked him enough to take him for CHM 175 next semester.
Amazing class! I highly suggest him. Remember to do the practice problems and study the questions on his quizzes. This will help you succeed in his class.
Chem I was really hard in high school and he did not make it any easier. Smart guy but he couldnt always punch things into the calculator correctly which got confusing. He moves through subjects pretty quickly too.
Explains things thoroughly and is willing to help you if you go to his office. I would highly recommend him!
He gives in class quizzes that aren't very hard for extra points.. also he gives online quizzes for extra points that you have 3 times to take.. the tests aren't bad if you study.. very helpful!
Best teacher hands down. Keep up with his homework and worksheets and your gold. Actually wants you to do well and is very helpful outside of class.
Dr. High is an amazing professor! If you go to lecture, pay attention, and DO THE HOMEWORK you can't get a bad grade. If you do find you are struggling he is more than willing to explain things to you until you get it. I was AWFUL at chemistry (had to drop this course previously), but he has helped me to understand and *GASP* even like the subject!
Dr. High is one of the best teachers I have ever had in college. He has a great personality and makes the class amusing. For someone who took a lot of chemistry in high school, this class was really easy. As long as you study a lot for the tests you'll be fine. For me, glancing over the homework in the book was good enough. Overall great class!
Great, great, great teacher. Tests are definitely do-able, as long as you do the homework before the test. If you're having trouble with anything, he's a great teacher to go to with questions. Study the quizzes before the test! Great study aid.
Brian High is an amazing teacher..I highly recommend him if chem is just a class you need for whatever reason, he's very helpful and funny. Tests are a little tough, you definitely have to work in this class.
Mr. High is great! He's teaching some pretty tough stuff, but he knows what he's doing and does a great job. He's a very likable person and you would definitely feel comfortable asking questions if you didn't understand something. Make sure to work, you can't just "get by" with this class.
Good teacher! You have to go to class, I know its early, but you'll only do well if you go to class, plus he has random open note pop quizzes that'll help your grade. Do the practices tests he posts on blackboard before the tests, a lot of the test questions come off there. Go to class and you'll be fine!
Nice guy but only able to explain things one way. Class isnt mandatory but necessary to even think about succeeding in his class.
Professor High was an amazing professor. Chemistry is definitely a hard class to grasp especially at 8:30 in the morning. Go to class and take your notes and you will be fine. Do any kinds of practice that he gives you in class, even in the book. Hes a pretty comical guy, and very easy going. He tells it to you how it is
An incredible teacher. Highly recommended.
He drops the lowest test score with the final. I was able to skip a test and still get an A in his class. He explains things very well, and the material is easy too if you do the practice problems. Would recommend to everyone over the unpronounceable teacher.
Brian High is an amazing teacher. I had him for 160 and 170 and he's one of my favorite professors I've had. Do the practice problems and you'll be fine for the tests. He doesn't take attendance but sometimes he'll give points for doing problems in class.
I took his class online. Easy A! Tons of bonus points available. He is so helpful and everything is explained very clearly! Definitely take him if you get the chance!! :)
I changed my major from bio to chm, after taking his classes! HE IS AMAZING! teach the material really good and so helpful. very friendlly and his tests are basically his practice quizzes.. highly recomanded
I love Brian High. He's a great professor, I would definitely recommend him.
very helpful. makes lectures interesting. if students have questions he takes time to work with you as often as needed. tells you what is expected, what will be on tests, where most students have trouble and how to avoid pitfalls. although attendance is not mandatory he often gives points to students who attend.
He is an amzing professor. I took this online. He has really detailed and helpful presentations with videos of examples on how to do things. He offer so much help like hell meet with you, email, video chat, pass sessions and he takes any recommendations to improve the class seriously. Everything was online for me but the midterm and final.
If you have a choice between him and Dr. Sui I would take Dr. High. He does a good job at explaining things, but doesn't focus on the conceptual part of it. He doesn't provide study guides and the final is comprehensive.
Mr. High is extreemly helpful! He really does teach his lectures. While attendance isn't madatory I highly recomend you go to class. He goes through lots of example problems and will answer any questions you may have. He also tells you what will be on the test and provides many opportunities to get help if you need it.
One out of the two best teachers I've had at missouri state so far! I never took a chem class, and ended up with an A. He wants to help so done be afraid to ask questions. Take him if you have the chance. Enough said.
His test are extremely hard because he teaches the easy problems in class but never shows examples like the test questions. He is however very helpful and always in his office to help his students.
Brian is very easy to understand, goes through many examples during class and is open to helping students study during office hours. This was my first chemistry class and I found the way he taught it very helpful and easy to understand. Just study a lot for tests!
He is an interesting teacher. Class is not mandatory, but he does give out a lot of extra credit quizzes. The tests are very short and to the point. Do all the study material that he "suggests".
He is a really great teacher! Very clear and makes it interesting too. Class is not mandatory but he does give out quite a few extra credit quizes on the days not many people show up.
He is the best teacher ever! He tells you exactly what will be on the tests and does tons of examples to help you understand. Awesome teacher! I would take him again if I could. Attend the classes and you'll do fine!
Brian is such a wonderful teacher. He explains everything, and there are never any surprises on his test's or quizzes. He tells you exactly what will be on there, and he gives you a ton of practice. He's really good at explaining, and he's always available to help.
Absolutely loved highs 160 class. It's hard work, like any chem course; but he makes things easy. If you go to lass he likes to do "name quizzes" when attendance is bad. Basically you wrote your name on a piece of paper and he gives you 5 points.
Brian High is a great teacher. He does tons of examples in class and teaches confusing material in a simple way. Although his chm160 tests are more difficult than Richter, learning the material now is worth the extra work so you do well in chm170.
Brian High is a very funny guy. His class is pretty difficult but he goes over all material over and over again. Do not miss class, chances are you are missing a key concept to something else,, and you will just get behind an won't understand. Overall a pretty good professor.
Very clear and concise. Everyone seems to get the material easily, and supposedly he is the best if you plan on moving on past 160. Richter(?) may be easier, but I hear no one actually learns anything and they have a really hard time at chem 170. Brian is a very entertaining teacher and tests aren't hard. Will give you tons of practice opportunity.
Brian is a pretty good teacher but his tests can be hard if you don't study. He does a lot of examples in class and gives a lot of book problems to go through. Tests get easier as the semester goes on but if you study they won't bad at the start. Take if you can!
Brian is an awesome teacher. He is straight to the point and tells you what will be on the test, there are no curve balls. He is always available for help and encourages questions. He manages to make even the dullest subjects interesting with his sense of humor. I highly recommend him
Brian High is the best professor on campus! He is straight to the point, always tells you what will be on the exams, and repeats material so many times it would be hard to fail any of his exams! "Pop quizzes" in class just for attendance where you literally write your name. Overall super nice and a great professor!
THE BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD HANDS DOWN. I came into this class hating chemistry and terrified of failing. I ended up leaving this class loving chemistry so much that I even considered majoring in it. TAKE THIS CLASS! You will not regret it if you put in the effort.
Brian is an amazing professor who can really intrigue his students to learn the material!
I hated chemistry, but Brian High is a great professor and extremely helpful!
Brian High is probably one of, if not the BEST teacher I have ever had! It's a hard subject and he tells you so plainly what you need to know and how to do it. He is very helpful and a nice guy. I hope to have more classes with him in the future. His tests are a little difficult so you better be ready to put your work in. Loved him as a teacher!!
Brian High was one of my favorite teachers. I had him for both chemistry 160 and 170 and got As in both. His teaching style was very clear, definitely recommend him to others.
Brian High is seriously the best chemistry teacher on campus. Unlike some of the other professors he actually wants you to get a good grade! He is clear cut and to the point. He does his part and I guarantee if you do your part you will get the grade you want. He is a super nice guy and easy to talk too. Wish I could take organic with him!!!!!!!!
Brian High is the best chemistry teacher I've ever had. I had to retake CHM170 and my grade has improved tenfold. I had no idea what was going on last semester and now I'm helping students in other sections.
Great teacher and very helpful. He makes so that if you actually do the work it's hard for you not to pass. He also takes times out to explain more in depth if need be and sticks to his office hours. Participation with the clickers is how he takes attendance. Also if you miss a day you will definitely be behind.
He is an amazing professor!
Dr. High is great at getting his students to understand the course material. As long as you come to class and do outside studying (like in a normal college class), his class is easy. The only irksome thing is that he frequently pronounces things incorrectly. "Electromatic" electromagnetic "Nucular" nuclear HE KNOWS HIS STUFF, THOUGH
Dr. High is a great professor. He made the class so easy the way he taught and I had it at 8:45 in the morning and he made it enjoyable because he was funny and loves his job. He offers 2 extra credit points per unit test and it would be a good idea to show up to class because you get easy participation points with clickers.
Mr. High is awesome. Always gives great examples during the lectures and works problems out on the board for you. Has office hours open quite often and is very helpful if you have questions about the homework, tests, etc. I wish he taught all of the chem classes I have to take.
Does a extremely good job of explaining the subject matter. Evident that he is passionate about both chemistry and the success of his students. Always willing to answer any questions and work with you until you understand it. Really enjoyed having him as a professor!
If you're wanting to pass the class with minimum work and little attendance and expect to pass with c or above, then it is not for you. He is honestly the best professor I've taken so far. He knows how to teach. To get a c or above, come to class regularly, do assigned homework and most importantly, STUDY! It's not an easy subject.
Dr. High is always available in emails and onoff his office hours, he likes students to come and ask him questions in Chemistry. There are practice tests and textbook questions for every chapter, so you can practice before the actual tests come. You better show up for every class because there are always some clicker questions.
Brian High is by far the best chemistry professor I have had at MSU. His lectures are very clear and he works out every problem. As long as you attend class and study before tests, it is an easy A. Print off the lectures before class to take notes on.
CHM 116, even if it is one of the most basic chemistry classes, is not a joke. I found this online class to be insanely tedious as you are forced to do assignments in MyChemLab. I probably spent more time on assignments in this intro class than I did in upper-level classes within my major. High's PowerPointsclass is very well organized, however.
Brian High is the best general chemistry professor at missouri state. He's hard and makes u work for ur grade but he is always wanting to help and is always theremember for the students. Usually on the days before and of tests he will be in his office all day. Put in the work and I'll get the grade u want.
Easy. Great guy
Best general chemistry professor at MSU. Don't take the class with anyone else. He makes you work for your grade, but he works hard to make sure you learn what you need to know. Easy to get along with.
I struggled with chemistry in high school because my teacher was god-awful. Brian High did an amazing job of projecting the information and making sure everything was understood even if it was 8:45 in the morning. Take him!
I hated chemistry going into college and I'm now minoring in it because of professor High. He explains things so well and always gives you the "why things are the way they are" instead of just having you memorize. I will definitely be taking him for Chem 170 as well!
Dr. High is a EXCELLENT teacher. He wants you to ask question and come to his office hours anytime you have a problem. He does a lot of practice problems so you know the material well. The tests are always under 40 questions, usually 25. He likes to make jokes. You will never be bored from his lectures.
Professor High was great! He has a hilarious sense of humor and he made Chem fun! I am a Chem major and this is the first college Chem class I took and I loved it! Make sure you show up to class because you will get behind if you miss. I would definitely retake this class. However, if you're planning on slacking, you won't do good. You have to work
He was so great for GEP, all my friends envied me because of him. He canceled class a lot, not a whole lot of homework, and a pretty funny and sarcastic guy. He tells us he is harder for his chemistry class, though. 10/10 would recommend!
Great teacher all around. He will go over every test individually with you, if that is what you need to succeed. Very dedicated to make sure you understand what is going on. His test are a little hard. You should except that because of how help you have open to you. He makes jokes all the time. I would and am taking another class of his :)
Brian High is a really good professor who knows his stuff. He can be pretty hilarious during lecture. You definitely have to take notes, show up for class, and study to do well in the class. However, he is very helpful and wants you to come into his office if you have any questions at all and he is very helpful. Definitely take advantage of it.
Absolutely loved Dr. High. He's tough, but he's fair. Be prepared to study. I hated chemistry, but somehow he managed to make it bearable. If you're looking for a good professor that's easy to understand and is great at answering questions, he's your guy. I'm planning on taking him again next semester for 170
If you are taking this class for an easy A, that won't happen. You have to try and study a lot in order to succeed, but Professor High is the best teacher! He is willing to help if you ask for it and he makes it clear what he wants out of his students. Would definitely take this class again!!!
Best professor ever. Hilarious and knowledgeable. Take chemistry with Brian High, you won't regret it.
Overall 8.5/10. His lectures are good and explains the material well. If you struggle with chemistry, he provides a ton of resources on Blackboard as well as in his power points to help you. He uses MasteringChemistry for homework as well as Clickers for in-class participation. Replaces lowest test with final. I recommend him.
Dr. High is a amazing teacher. The content of the class is hard, but it is necessary to take Organic. He makes lecture interesting. He doesn't throw curve balls. Everything in the notes will be on the test. I went by his office a couple times, he is very helpful. He will go over things multiple times if needed.
Excellent teacher, tells you what he includes for tests - then actually includes it. Pay attention to the homework and do the extra credit and you should be fine, especially since you get to drop your lowest test score and replace it with the final at the end.
Great teacher. Makes material easy to understand.
He is the best chemistry teacher at Missouri State! He goes over everything you need to know for the tests in class. It really helps if you go to PASS sessions and do the homework. This is one of my favorite courses.
Brian High is available outside of class whenever you need him. However, he speaks really fast during class. I found the BearClaw extremely helpful in this class. As long as you put in the work, it should be fine. He is liked by many students.
He is a straightforward professor. He tells you exactly what will be on the exam and explains content so that it is understandable. He offers extra credit! Never used my book. Homework is online. He teaches off power points that you can print out, but is not boring. He does ramble sometimes, but he makes it very clear what is important to remember.
He is a really great professor. He makes the material very easy to understand and doesn't just read off of the powerpoints, he actually explains the slides and how to do things. He does have a lot of homework online but it's really simple and allows for multiple tries. He tries to make it interesting and to make sure that everyone understands.
Brian High is a great professor and really nice guy, the only reason why I wouldnt take him again is because his tests are worth 80% of your grade, even though he is a great teacher, the tests still seemed impossible to get an "A" on. A lot of homework for a class that doesn't give much pts for it.
Dr. High is a great professor. Super funny and available often to meet with students. Beware of the tests in this class. There are very few questions and they make up a large portion of your final grade.
SHOW UP TO CLASS OR YOU WILL NOT PASS. If you show up, pay attention, and do your homework, you will get at least a B. He's fairly straight forward with what he expects of you. All his tests are multiple choice and aren't horrible.
Prof. High is funny and very smart. You can really tell he knows his stuff. He makes lectures fun and entertaining. He pretty much tells you when a question will be on the exam during lecture so make sure you pay attention!!
Professor High has been one of the better professors I've had at MSU! He structures a ton of practice around his course, so If you put in the work it should be an easy A. Plus, he is always willing to help students with whatever questions they have. I would definitely recommend him over some of the other gen chem professors.
I didn't particularly enjoy this class. The way he taught didn't help me actually learn the material. I had to go get help at BearPaw for some of the material that wasn't well explained in class. Definitely wouldn't take him again. He does make some funny jokes, which was the bright part of this class for me.
I honestly don't know why people like him. He's so negative all the time and barely covers important things.
This professor was great really friendly and helpful
Brian High is really funny and tries his best to make chemistry interesting. He knows what he's talking about and he's very helpful if you go to his office hours. Definitely recommend taking High
High is pretty funny and nice. The material isn't the easiest, but if you go to class and pay attention, you'll do fine
Brian High is an awesome teacher. He makes the info exciting to learn and really knows the material he is teaching. He doesn't round grades so don't expect him to help you out at the end of the semester. He wants you to work for it.
This professor honestly is very difficult. He teaches 160 and 170 as if we are all scientists. His homework is HORRIBLE and his lectures are impossible to keep up with. I switched to a different chemistry teacher and got an A. Avoid if you're a slow learner.
If you took advanced chemistry in high school you will be fine in his class, but if chemistry is not your forte you may struggle a bit. I found that his test questions were worded very differently than the homework, study guide, and lecture questions. Also, there is a lot of mastering chemistry. However, he's a really funny guy and approachable.
Great teacher, but you have to go to learn the material.
my favorite professor so far. i was worried about taking chemistry but he made this class fun. he made it enjoyable for me to come to his class at 8 am and learn chem. hes very considerate and funny. he drops ur lowest test score and provides extra credit for all the tests. dont buy textbook if there is one, just buy access code.
If you're going to take High for CHM 116, do it online and don't do it over the summer. He doesn't round grades but he considers 89% to be an A-, so in reality, it's rounded already. Good teacher, don't buy the book, just the access code.
Dr High is a great teacher for chemistry. He's pretty lenient with grades, especially over the summer. Take the class online if you can. Just get the access code.
Brian High is an awesome professor. He is 110% willing to help you with any questions you might have during the course. His office is always open. He makes lectures interesting and is very funny. He doesnt offer a ton of extra credit, but he prepares you for the tests. Highly recommend.
He really wants to help you understand the material. He cares about his students and gives you your exams back. He gives extra credit for coming to office hours and going to the bear claw. He's the best science professor we have at MSU.
Never took a Chem class before this and he made it super simple. Makes it clear what you need to look over for the tests. Replaces lowest test score with the final is the final is higher plus you get to use a notecard on it! Highly recommend!
Brian is a great Chemistry Prof. When I had CHM 116, there was over 170 students. He did great ask if ANYONE had any questions. He does lots of examples which is helpful. Never forces too much information on you in one class session. Definitely would take another class with him!
i took his online class and it was very well organized. everything is put up on blackboard at the beginning of the semester and is very easy to follow. online presentations explained the material well and helped me understand things that were confusing. only proctored tests are the midterm and final which are paper and pencil
This man is an angel. He does like a million office hours before tests so he's very accessible for help. His lectures are funny and he makes it very clear what is important for the test. He provides practice problems and your final exam grade replaces your lowest regular exam score so even if you get bad grades on one or two tests you can recover.
Dr. High made a difficult class easy to understand. From what I've heard, he is one of the better general chemistry professors. You have to work outside of class, but he makes the concepts very clear in class. He is available outside of class a lot, but he isn't super approachable (makes it seem like your questions are dumb/invalid).
If you pay attention clicker questions are easy. Do all of the practice tests and suggested problems from the book and you will get an A. Don't forget to do the blended section on masteringchem. He is very clear when lecturing. If you get stuck on a concept go to the Bearclaw because they can sometimes explain it better.
Brian High is one of the best professors at MSU! Super approachable, explains things in a way that is easy to understand! Also gives extra credit!! Brian High is the best!!
Very good teacher and knowledgeable. Takes the course at a very good pace and has lots of oppritunity for students to receive help and extra credit. You can earn up to 5% of your overall grade in extra credit.
Amazing teacher. Took him for 160 and 170. He wants you to learn so he gives you extra credit for going to the Bear Claw. Also has extended office hours the day before or the day of the tests because he knows we cram.
Professor High is very passionate about teaching chemistry. I came into this class knowing NOTHING about chemistry, but after this class I feel as if I learned so much. He also explains concepts very well and does so many examples. It is also very easy to reach him in his office hours, and he is willing to explain to you anything you do not get.
As long as you put in the time to go through the topics from class, youll be fine. He was always willing to help during office hours, and the final was extremely easy. Highly recommend!
Online version of CHM116. Fairly heavy workload, but all information is there to pass the exams. Mastering Chemistry homework is very helpful for repetition and assists in developing the skills. You will EARN an A in this class, but the information is there.
Dr. High is very good at explaining what you need to know. He will never surprise you on tests, what you learn in class is what you will be tested on. He gives lots of materials to help you study if you're not keeping up well. He gives you extra credit for going to the bear claw. Show up to class and do the mastering and you'll do fine.
Dr. High is a great professor, he wants you to do well. If you fail the class it's your own fault. He gives plenty of helpful material, he tells you exactly what will be on the test. At first, he seems intimidating but he is honestly really chill. When I visited office hours he was 100% committed to answering any questions. DO mastering chemistry!!
He is a great instructor who has a lot of knowledge on the subject of chemistry. Explains things really well and gives you a lot of practice assignments that will help you do well on the exam. If you do all of the assignments and practice things that he says you will get a good grade. He is also really helpful if you have questions.
High is a very good professor and really wants you to succeed. Notes are always posted online and there are some "mastering" assignments due with the lectures. Overall makes chemistry pretty easy and really does care.
Brian High is an amazing teach. He is very straight forward on what you will need to know for the tests. The homework is all online and can sometimes be lengthy but is an easy grade booster. He offers extra credit to be added to tests. He also drops your lowest test grade which can help you out a lot in the end! Do yourself a favor and take him.
Brian High is amazing. I took him for 160 and 170. He is very clear on what will be covered on tests. Homework is online and a good grade booster but can be lengthy. He offers up to two points of extra credit to your tests, which can add up. It is important to show up to class; you will not do well if you dont.
This professor gives great lectures and makes Chemistry really easy to understand. However this man is the least sympathetic man I have ever met. My dad died three days before our test and I still had to take it no matter my situation.
LISTEN IN THIS CLASS!!! super hard and if he you don't like the way he teaches, well good luck Charlie
Brian High was an amazing professor and he really made things easy to learn and understand.
Brian did a great job! He uses clickers in his class and throughout the lecture will give you questions you have to answer for points. The clickers are only 10 percent of your grade so if you miss a few its not a big deal. The tests arent terrible but youll need to study for an A. No rounding grades but offers extra credit for the final.
I loved this class. He was boring at times, but was a great person and made chemistry simple. His extra credit consists of 2 points for each test just by going to the BearClaw or pass sessions. You will have to work at it or you will not do too well.
Very organized, funny, quick to grade. Happily will answer questions and help of struggling. He tries to help everyone succeed so you should pass if youre trying. I wish every teacher was on top of blackboard like he is! He also made jokes all class long, and although repetitive they kept me laughing which is helpful in chem.
Took him for both Chem 160 and 170 and he is amazing. He is a funny guy who makes his lectures interesting. He does a lot of examples with all the math that he gives you. Either print out the slides or pull them up on your computer to do the work along with him, it helps. He never surprises you on tests, he'll tell you what he expects.
He isn't fair about the grading and is not very understanding at all.
Brian was an amazing professor. Chemistry was something that I had to take for my major, and it is not something I really enjoy, but he made it interesting and fairly enjoyable. Attendance is not mandatory, but he gives points for clicker questions that can really help your grade. The course is challenging, but not hard if you study.
Do the homework, it's good practice. Watch the video lectures attached to the powerpoints.
I dont' reallly understand the bad reviews here.. Brian High is probably the best chemistry teacher in the entire department. He makes it fun and enjoyable & explains things very well and encourages questions. Offers a lot of extra credit and replaces lowest grade on test with the final. Take him. You won't regret it.
Very straight forward with his teaching. Great lectures
He is a solid professor who is straightforward with the work. It will take time and effort to understand some concepts, but he gives you many chances to keep your grade high with some extra credit and switches the lowest test grade with the final test score. He is a funny guy too. His lectures are very helpful and I recommend taking his class.
If you have a chance take Professor High. I've taken him for both CHM 160 and 170 and loved both classes. High's lectures are very informative and give good examples. The tests are hard but the lectures prepare you for the test and practice tests are provided. Professor High is very nice and helpful and ultimately wants you to succeed.
TAKE CHM 116 W/ HIGH! This class is 100% doable if you put the work in. His lectures are very easy to follow and he makes lectures not boring. For tests, he will only put questions that cover what is learned in class. He isn't trying to play games with you. Extra credit can be done that goes towards the final. You could get over 100% on the final!
Brian High is an awesome professor. He makes the content easy to understand and has tons of resources to help students prepare for tests. The homework is very helpful as well as the practice tests, you can tell he really wants his students to succeed. In my class, he even gave extra credit to people who signed up for the final early.
I had always heard good things but during the pandemic he didn't change or adapt to anything. He made it to where if you get a bad grade on the midterm or final then you just fail the entire course. To me, this is pretty horrible considering the world is literally going through a global pandemic. So that's pretty bad.
He's a very intelligent prof, but VERY hard to talk to. He will never respond to your emails and he is not great at giving feedback. If you want to be able to get assistance from your prof with any struggles in the class, he is not your guy. If you plan to take his class and never speak to him, then sure, you'll love him. Think before you pick!
Love this teacher, very helpful by showing examples and creating supplemental videos to help. Would take class with him again.
Please keep in mind that I took his CHEM116 class that was completely online. It worked very well for me, online powerpoints and lectures w/ mastering chemistry. It is very important to stay organized with his notes and to watch all of his videos. But I found his class straight forward! He was very clear and available over email/ Zoom office hours.
he's very clear on what's expected and the material is definitely doable!!
Awesome professor that clearly explains what types of problems you will encounter on the test. Does several example problems and clearly explains what he is doing, and why he is doing it. Easy clicker question points if you show up to lectures. Tests are somewhat difficult if you don't review a little, but that's to be expected. Just pay attention.
I've taken both CHM 160 & 170 with Professor High and have had no issues with him at all. Very concise and makes the material easy to understand. Even had a weird issue with my midterm at the testing center and he was understanding and reset the test for me. Pretty sad he doesn't teach organic chemistry! His classes made me enjoy chem.
Loved him! I'm not great at chem, but he made things very easy to understand as long as you pay attention and take notes.
He's a great teacher & explains the concepts really well. He gives lots of extra credit (easy), you just have to sit down & do it. You have lecture videos, a practice quiz (answers online/easy), mastering chemistry (like homework questions), and a chapter quiz for each chapter. You complete each chapter at your own pace & turn in by a certain date
A great professor for Chemistry. He's really accommodating to anyone and he is always quick when responding back to his emails. You only get E.C. from going to tutor sessions or finding things that are wrong in assignments or powerpoint. The class was overall easy for me, and I would recommend taking him.
He's a good teacher, and he knows it. I understand why some people love him but his class was not it for me. The midterm and final make up 40% of your grade, so if you do bad, you're screwed. Make sure you understand ALL concepts from 160 and everything as it's taught. And do not fall behind in content, you will have a lot of makeup work to do.
You can tell that Dr. High knows what he's talking about and wants to make sure everyone understands what's going on (and I thought he was hilarious). He tries to make lectures interesting and uses lots of analogies to help explain complicated concepts. If you go to class, pay close attention, and take good notes, you'll do great in this course.
I went to every class, took notes, paid attention, did all the homework, did all the practice tests, and got help from the tutor center multiple times per test. I had a C in the class and gave my absolute best. He's a hard grader, the tests are harder than the homework, he's loud and rude in class and yells at us for no reason. Would not recommend
Professor is super cool. If you wanna take an online chem class, take his. He puts up many different ways to learn the material like previous lecture vids (I used these which seemed best in terms of tests), practice problems, and more. He doesnt make it boring either. Super funny and teaches super well. It surprised me how easy chemistry could be.
I took this class online. It was lecture heavy (he posts everything for the semester at the beginning) but they were very helpful. If you actually take the time to learn the material through lecture, homework, and quizzes you should be good.
I had this guy as a sophomore. My friend and I walked past his office and ended up striking up a conversation about Star Wars, Chemistry, and Life. Super awesome teacher. Probably one of the most quotable professors I've ever had. Take Brian, He's great!
Great Professor, lectures were very detailed. Fair amount of homework but not hard to complete. Extra credit available. If you go to class, take good notes, and ask questions if you are confused on a topic, you should be fine. Take him if you have the opportunity.
I loved Brian high! He tells you everything you need to focus on and what is important for his exams. There's few extra credit opportunities. Best advice is to do practice problems as much as you can.
After having a terrible teacher for BMS and struggling, I loved Dr. High as my teacher. His lectures are very easy to understand and he goes over multiple problems to help you understand. He offers up to two extra credit points every test, which helps because they aren't super long tests. Practice tests help so much bc questions are on the exam.
Brian High is one of the best chemistry professors I have ever had. Sit close to front and participate, it will pay off. Do practice problems! He is very approachable as long as you are engaged. You cannot be afraid to ask questions. He is super funny and wants you to succeed. I loved having him for CHM 170!
Honestly, this is an easy class if you listen to the lectures and do the homework. You need at least 50% on the final, however, it was pretty easy and he added on extra credit to the final. He does a lot of extra credit and he responds to emails fast.
I have taken CHM 116, 160, and now 170 with Brian High and he was the best professor I've ever had at Mo state. His lectures are thorough but not dry, he is always willing to help outside of class during office hours and never makes you feel rushed or dumb for not knowing something. Show up, put in the effort, and you will be okay!
This class is hard on its own, he gives the option to listen to it online, but attending class would be a smarter option, he offers extra credit and will do everything he can to help you. Pay attention, do the homework and you should be fine, there's homework every week and 4 tests that make up the majority of your grade. if you skip, you will fail
Moves very fast in class. I Will never forget "Get on the train or get hit by the train". Does give lots of practice problems with work but overall the whole class is difficult. Would not necessarily recommend it.
Brian is an amazing teacher. I had him for 160 and that is what made me take him again. He has recorded lecture videos to go back and watch which was nice and helpful. There are some extra credit things you can do and you should. The lectures are a little long but they are clear and you can understand them.
He is by far the best science professor I have taken. He explains everything in a very clear manner and does numerous practice problems. There a many resources that he offers to help study for the test like practice tests. He is available to help and explain what was not understood. He also records lectures which are helpful when studying for tests
Professor High is amazing and he's also hilarious. You will never forget the man's phrases after you take his class. The class is fairly difficult, so make sure you take advantage of all the extra credit, do the practice exams, and show up to lecture, although it's not required. He teaches each concept really well and I'd 100% recommend him.
Professor High was amazing. He really goes over things well, but chemistry really doesn't stick in my brain well so I didn't perform as well as I would have liked. He gives a LOT of extra credit too, so take advantage of it!!
Professor High is a really good professor. The exams are weighted 60% of the class and the final is 20%. However, he does tell you what will be on the exams.
He is such an amazing professor. He makes the lectures interesting and engaging. What he teaches will be on the test, which is so helpful. I wish he taught harder chem classes because the way he teaches is amazing.
He is a great professor. Provides you with so many resources to succeed. He even records and live streams his lectures in case you can't make it, you don't have to miss out on everything. He is quick to respond to emails. Would 100% recommend taking him.
Professor High is a great teacher. His lectures were clear, and covered material thoroughly for better understanding. He gives extra credit opportunities which helps a lot. Do the practice quizzes. Study the practice quizzes. If you can master those, the final will be a piece of cake.
Amazing professor. I loved this class so much. It was really fun to learn chemistry because he taught so understandably. Just go to class and work the problems during class and you will learn. The tests were taken from the homework and the questions we went over in class, so just make sure you know the steps and you'll do fine. HIGHly recommend :)
Dr. High gives tons of resources needed to be successful. I'd highly recommend taking his class, your grades will thank you.
Overall really great at teaching the material, even for newcomers to chem. You definitely need to avoid missing lectures to do well on the exams and the exams are fairly difficult. All the exams were completely multiple choice though. He assigns lots of homework but it's never too difficult and definitely worth it to understand the material.
He was simply amazing! I highly recommend Brian for your Chemistry courses!
Brian was a great professor, he gives more resources than any other professor ive ever had. There are practice problems, practice tests, office hours, and so much more. I would take another class with him if i could, but chem was just a gen ed for me.
Dr. High is truly an amazing professor. He provides us students with multiple resources for the materials we are needing to learn, which helped so much. He also provides some extra credit that is super easy and really helps in the long run! I couldn't recommend a professor more, take Dr. High for any chemistry class you have!
I only gave him a low rating because he's not accommodating to students with disabilities. he told me to come to him at the end of the semester if my epilepsy affected my grades, it did, I came to him, and he told me there was nothing he could do and I should've come sooner. great at teaching but I'd avoid if you have a 504 plan.
Solid professor, not great at communicating but a pretty good teacher. Somethings I did have to look into myself (YouTube etc) but overall he does well. Beware, you do need to pass the final with >50%. The final isn't difficult per se, however it is a lot of questions in not that much time. He adds all the extra credit to the final (abt 10% curve).
Brian High is a wonderful instructor, and I cannot imagine passing CHM 170 without him as a teacher. He has great lectures, lots of office hours, and even pass leaders that allow you to study even more out of the classroom. This class was tough for me, but Mr. High is a fantastic professor. I also thought his point system was more than fair.
Professor High is engaging and makes chemistry easy to grasp. His lectures are clear, and he provides great resources like recorded videos and practice tests. Utilizing Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook and class materials can really solidify your understanding.
Professor High is very good at explaining things clearly and covering everything necessary. Tests are difficult, but fair and he is good about going over all of the necessary information to pass. Not heavy on homework. Great instructor for a difficult subject.
Really funny and lenient
I loved Dr. High! His teaching style is so easy to understand. I got As in all the exams he gave out. His exams also follow the style of the practice materials he offers- which is another thing! Make sure you practice those and do your homework! His due dates are somewhat lenient but don't fall behind in class. He also records lectures! 10/10!!
I hate chemistry with a passion, but Brian does an excellent job of teaching. If you put in effort/do practice problems/visit office hours, you will be set. He is very straightforward, kind, and accessible outside of class. Although the subject matter can be bland, his lectures are entertaining. He prepared me for my MCAT very well. 20/10.
This was a tough course for me and I did not like the layout of the online course. There were no exams other than one big exam at the end of the semester and I found this anxiety inducing. However he offers a lot of extra credit and he was willing to meet with me in person a few times. I recommend if you're good at learning independently!
Only had him online, content was difficult, online savvy.
Very difficult, online savvy, prepare for the final....
Very good lectures that are well paced and easy to understand if you pay attention. He records most lectures so you can catch up if you missed anything, although attendance is still recommended. Tests are graded in a very timely manner. He has very good study guides/practice tests, and I found the homework was usually good practice for the tests.
Dr. High is great. He loves what he teaches and makes it interesting. If you're in the fence about chemistry, take his class. Show up, do the practice tests and you'll pass with flying colors. The extra credit helps too!
Second year taking chem with Brian. Overall great professor who is always available to help. 4 Test (25 question) + final and offers plenty of extra credit. Wish I could take him again.
I was nervous about taking chemistry, but Brian High is an amazing teacher. You can understand his lecture very well, he's very reasonable when it comes to tests and grading, and he explains things clearly.
Test 1: 96% Test 2: 100% Test 3: 100% Test 4: 100% Final: 100% Professor High is an amazing professor and probably one of my favorites. His lectures were also available online live and were recorded for later review. He does grade attendance through clickers but it's not too bad. Mastering can be hard, but the tests are VERY easy in comparison.
It's a gen ed. However, theres a lot of work. The class is worth 100 points 75% is homework and 25% the final. In order to pass the class you have to receive at least a 50% on the final. Which is crazy for a gen ed worth 4 credits. If you got 100% on all hw and got a 50 on the final you FAILED. Failing this class will ruin your gpa.
With no background of chemistry this course is HARD. You have to study a lot and be good at time management. If you fail the final you fail the class even if you have an 100% in the course beforehand. I am a straight A student and I needed a lot of extra help. A lot of memorization and math. So stressful.
Brian is just a super cool guy and really great chemistry teacher. Lectures are super helpful, and he's very reasonable on tests and grading
Brian's great. The class is a little hard, but if you attend the lectures then it all starts to make sense pretty quickly. He gives a lot of resources like help videos, practice tests, and his office hours. Chemistry was always pretty difficult for me but I actually really enjoyed this class and I plan on taking him again
He was genuinely my favorite professor that I have had thus far at Missouri State University. He made chemistry extremely fun and exciting!
I love Brian High. His lectures are fantastic. Homework is helpful. Extra credit is abundant and easy to obtain. I learned so much in this class and am currently enrolled in CHM 170 this semester with him. I couldn't recommend him more.
He pre posts all the lectures so you can watch before or go back to them. HE tells you absolutely everything that is on the test. If you study you will do good
Brian High is one of the best professors out there. The material can be tricky, but it is the nature of the class. However, he tells you exactly what will be on the exam. If you complete his study guide/practice test and get those questions figured out, you will 100% get an A on the exam
Great teaching abilities.
Posts lecture videos online but still recommend going to classes. Will heavily hint what will be on the exams. Can gain 10 extra credit points for the final, 1 of 4 exams are dropped. Reminds you of due dates. Explains most things as if we never learned Chem before. Practice exams are very similar to the actual exams.
He takes attendance using online clickers, but drops a few points at the end of the semester. His class is really easy, he tells you everything on the test and makes the practice tests way harder than the actual test. You can also get 5% or something extra for each test if you go to his office hours or bear claw twice for each test.
My grade is on me! This professor is a good one to take, and I would recommend! My grade is my own doing of slacking off and not being prepared. Brian is a great professor who is extremely transparent on what you need to know for the exams and gives extra credit and drops your lowest test score.
I never had chemistry in high school, and I found this class quite difficult. Use your practice tests, do the extra credit, go to office hours, review as often as you can. High is fun to be around once you get to know him. Even with the difficult class, I never considered another instructor for CHM 170 and look forward to having him again.
SOOOO good at teaching. He has the knowledge of Chemistry but is also one of the best professors I've had. He is funny and makes you work hard but with tons of extra credit he is a good teacher.
He is a good teacher. He is very blunt. Offers opportunities for extra credit.
