Pass on this guy
Makes lectures interesting and not boring. I've taken him for Intro, Methods, and now Persuasion. He demands a lot of effort and can be intimidating at times with his sarcasm. Once you get past that, he's great and very helpful if you ask him.
Forget Participation. No matter what you say, there is no chance of being correct. This Professor fails to understand that shutting students' answers down does not encourage either attendance or participation. Sadly, the only thing that does matter in this class is attendance, for the only purpose of power points. shame.
Householder is mean and will make fun of you if you answer a question in class. You can't answer a question correctly because he'll just find something wrong with it. When it comes time for the first exam you have no idea what it's going to be on. You have to work really hard on your term paper and poster projectpresentation. AVOID
WORST PROFESSOR EVER. Lectures are so long, pointless, and irrelevant, and the final assignment was a complete circus. Overall pointless class and pointless professor.
Boring, annoying, confusing and too much work for the info I could've simply read in the required book. In fact, reading made more sense than the lectures.
Take someone else, especially if you have comm 300 with him the same semester.
Good professor, extremely fair tests, fair cyber assignments. Final poster presentation and paper are tedious but graded generously. Very helpful to skim chapters prior to exams for an above average grade. Overall, easy class.
I would avoid raising your hand and answering questions in class. If you're wrong, he's going to make fun of you. If you're right, he's still going to find something wrong with your answer. Lectures are long and boring.
The most unhelpful professor I have had at Rutgers. Answered my questions with his own questions, very unclear and tough to communicate with. As others mentioned, no answer is the right answer, and he will call on you. That being said, he gives grades fairly, deep down he wants to see you succeed. Decent human being, bad professor.
lectures are painfully boring but u have to go bc he gives in class assignments to hand in. randomly picks on students for participation. spends the whole lecture on 1-2 slides. TAs are easy graders, but he isnt. various assignments, 1 long paper, and 1 presentation. 2 exams straight from study guide. don't buy the textbook
Householder is a reasonable teacher his class is not the most interesting but he gives you every opportunity to pass! As long as you attend class and do the work you'll do fine
He likes to talk too TOO much, which can be boring at times. He uses examples from our lives to explain a term or concept. His philosophy in teaching is that there is no right or wrong, which can be confusing. PowerPoint is not very organized. He encourages students to provide examples. His office is open for students, go and ask for elaboration.
His classes aren't concentrated on dishing out temporary knowledge that you'll forget he expects you to get involved, and it turned out to be more interesting. I loved that he wanted to help his students understand, if you don't, keep probing him and he will make sure that you do. Follow his HW instructions down to the word and you will do great.
Nice guy and is willing to help you if you ask for it. Class material wasn't all that interesting which is what made the lectures boring. Definitely a fair grader when it comes to the paper and presentation
Rambles a lot during lectures, but class notes are important to pass the midterm and final.
He can talk about two slides for the entire lecture. He can seem intimidating but he's actually pretty approachable. Not flexible with lateness. Try to go to every class because he randomly gives out little assignments to check for attendance. The grading for the lit review was harsh.
You must go to class because he does in class assignments for credit, do not raise your hand because every answer you give is "wrong". When no one participates he calls on random people and says theres no wrong answer but then makes fun of you if you don't know it. Very Very intimidating and very boring in lectures. His slides are very unorganized
Alright, lets be clear, Householder is the director of the Comm program for undergraduate studies for Rutgers. He is not gonna be easy. That is why he teaches the important classes for the program. I took him 3 times, went from a B to an A because I participated and did not let the class fly by. People get more As in the class than you would expect
DONT BE INTIMIDATED. The dude is not gonna step on you if you mess up a question in class. Be involved and the abstract concepts will begin to make sense. If you have a question, go see him about it. This course is the basis for all advertising as well as campaigning. When you walk into your internship the next summer, this information will help u
awful
I took Comm 101 and liked the class. There were 2 exams (during class time) and 2 papers. With a big class, attendance isn't mandatory, but he gives in class assignments that are graded and those who miss get a 0. His comments on the notes make the content very relatable.
He is a humorous professor, but his grading for papers is too hard. He gives many in-class assignments which are also graded. The best choice is to attend every class.
His slides weren't very informative and class was boring, but he does in class assignments randomly for credit so lecture is mandatory. He was definitely funny and tried to make class as fun as he could. Most of the subject matter is pretty common sense so as long as you study it's an easy class. Just make sure you follow his criteria.
Boring class but Householder tries to keep you engaged. There are 2 easy papers and 2 exams. SHOW UP TO CLASS! A lot of in class assignments that add up to really effect your grade. He held study groups before each exam and answers questions after lecture. Im an under-average student and had minimal issues.
There would be pop up attendance checks to make sure kids were going to class. Very specific with how he wants work done.
Had Householder for Comm101. Only 2 papers & 2 exams and the papers aren't graded tooo hard. Study for exams and you'll be good. Go to class so that you don't miss any in-class assignments or miss any material. Only has main points in his slides, so you have to listen to what he says. I got a B, you can get an A with more effort.
Professor Householder isnt at all intimidating. The class itself was pretty boring but Householder is a solid lecturer and he would crack jokes every now and then to keep the class entertained. If you show up, take notes and do the homework you will do just fine. He tells you exactly what he wants on the papers too.
He is very funny and makes class interesting when he is lecturing. He has a powerpoint but he explains beyond what is written so you should pay attention. He is kind of rude and condescending during office hours but he helps if you have questions. Despite those few encounters, I would take his class again
For Comm101! Professor Householder is a good teacher. He uses good examples to explain his points, and a lot of the material is fairly common sense, although you have to know what things are called. You MUST go to class! The slides won't tell you everything; you NEED good notes. Also there are tons of easy in class assignments that really add up.
Kept Lectures entertaining. Attend the lectures as he often has participation assignments that can only be done in class. Two research papers that are super easy if you attend and take good notes. Cybers are great for boosting grades, and exams are easy if prepared. Overall just go and put in at least some effort and you're guaranteed a good grade.
He's funny and loves to show off his vocabulary for sure. He tips the scales on your grade however as he did with mine. Two papers, two exams, the in class and online assignments all have clear grading criteria. The extra credit which is clear as well. I calculated a B but received a C+. He didn't respond to my email about it either.
Great professor overall. Doesn't check attendance by using sign in sheet but has in class assignments that are due and can usually only hand in if you're in class. I recommend getting the textbook however you can pass without it. Exams have textbook specific questions. Must actually study for exams too to get a good grade.
You must stay focus in his class and take a lot of notes because you know nothing if you only study his slides. Examples he gives help you understand a lot.
Really good professor. You can skip class, but dont do it that often because his slides arent super detailed. Tests are everything from lecture and partially on reading. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! hes a huge help. Midterm and a final, with some online assignments and a paper/poster project. He's really smart and knows what hes talking about
The content can sometimes be complicated, but Householder makes the lectures enjoyable. He has a very funny personality and it made going to his class enjoyable. He does have surprise in-class assignments so make sure to attend as much as possible. There are only 2 exams and the final isn't cumulative. Studying is required in order to do well.
I am so sad this class is over! BH is hands down one of my favorite professors. He is incredibly intelligent and has a big sense of humor. I really look up to him. Hes always willing to help you if you reach out, and hes super sweet but he doesnt show it. Take as many classes as you can with him, he is a real gem and you will learn so much.
Householder is an excellent professor! He expects some work on your end so you have to actually go to class and participate to understand his lectures. He does not spell anything out for you but he will give lots of examples. He is also really funny and sweet, don't be afraid to ask questions!
Easy A as long as you show up to class and take good notes, his notes are online but he gives great examples that make it really easy to understand so jot those down too. Also theres two papers during the course both super easy did them the night before and got above an 80 so I'm sure if you actually do it earlier you can get a solid A.
Honestly, he's alright. He's probably one of if not the hardest comm teachers there is at Rutgers. If you pay attention in class you'll do fine
Professor Housholder is a fantastic lecturer. He keeps the lectures interesting even when the information is dry. His exams are very straightforward and easy if you study for a little while. Grades papers somewhat hard. He is also really funny. Overall great class with interesting content.
he gives cyber assignments and if you don't say what he thinks is right you get 0 credit. the TA's grade the papers and don't seem like they have taken the course before. Avoid taking him if you can.
Great professor, boring lectures. Show up to class, participate in discussions, study notes for exams, and take your time to do the papers correctly because they are not doable in one day. Very critical but only in ways that can help your way of thinking. He can come off as a jerk sometimes so don't be too sensitive with him
This class seriously wasn't hard at all, you just HAVE to show up to every class bc of the cybers and everyone hates that. He gives you extra credit at the end, you don't need the textbook at all, he doesn't let you use computers in class which I hated, and at the end I was less than half a point away from an A because I missed an in class cyber
Householder is funny and sarcastic, don't take everything he says seriously. The papers are very simple-I got an A on both of them and my TA was helpful but took time to write. The exams are straightforward. The cyber assignments were easy, just explain & you get full credit but you have to go to class to do them. Also don't waste $50 on the book.
I dont't like the cyber homework. But the lecture is funny.
Householder is an amazing professor (and really funny) but you have to go to class. Overall there wasn't a lot of points and missing two in-class assignments had an impact on my grade. The class itself really isn't that hard but you have to put in time for memorizing a lot of terms for the tests.
Very knowledgable and decent human being, but can be a real jerk. Acts like he's a gift from god. Very specific about what he wants, which makes the final project harder than it actually is. Easy content, but the way he teaches it isn't clear sometimes. If you show up to class and put in effort you'll be fine. Wouldn't take him again though
He's a funny professor and the material itself is easy to understand. Your grade, however, is more dependent on who your TA is, some are very easy while others grade hard. Exams were pretty easy as long as you go to lecture.
Householders a great prof, he really tries to make his lectures interesting even if the topics boring. Just go to lecture and be a good student, idk why y'all sign up for classes an not show up. Go to office hours with your paper before handing it in. exams are fine if you study. Cybers are easy points. Don't buy the book. this is 101 btw
Funny guy and really clear on what to do for papers/exams. Show up for lectures because he gives pop-assignments (really easy) which boost your grade and he puts exam questions straight from lectures. If you show up and take notes you'll get an A. Really easy class and interesting
Househ. is really funny and very knowledgeable. He has pop quizzes that are easy but can only be understood if u go to class so attendance is necessary. Lectures can sometimes be lengthy but good overall. His prompts for his papers are not always clear so definitely go to office hours before you turn in the paper to make sure you are in good shape
This guys is a jerk just cause he thinks this is the most important thing in campus. Not everyone in this class is a comm major but he teaches assuming that you are. You can only easily pass this class but you need to follow his strict grading policies for all his papers. I passed this class so this isnt coming from someone who failed.
Overall good class, attendance isn't taken but he does in class "projects" for credit and if you're not in class, you cannot make it up. Only 2 exams (midterm and final) and 2 papers and overall he tries to make the class interesting!
If you want to take this class, you need to clarify whether your TA is good. TA is not a fair grader and a little bit tough.
Prof Householder is a good professor and a good guy. I was a little nervous to take his class bc I had him for 101 and I heard for comm 359 that he was really hard. I mean, you definitely need to put in effort to receive a good grade in the class. He has a lot of knowledge and comes off intimidating, but if you show that you care, he will care too.
He doesnt grade anything so it really matters what kind of TA you have but they are usually tough graders. Tests arent too hard but you have to go to every class and take good notes. The final project is impossible. If you go to him for help hes very condescending and intimidating. Would not recommend taking a class with him other than 101.
I found his lectures entertaining; he's a funny guy. But there are some aspects to this class I find annoying, like the Cyber homework, or the final project which has been unnecessary busy work (a research paper project, and now a poster project). Your TA needs to be good for a good grade in this class. Overall, ok but would NOT take again.
Worst professor ever. He is so mean. He treats people very badly. Strongly discriminate against other country's students.
i do not recommend persuasive comm at all; he's one of the most obnoxious, self-absorbed man i have ever encountered. he's very knowledgeable, but absolutely avoid taking him.
The class was fairly interesting and not very difficult. He advises you to purchase a textbook but don't even bother. Cyber assignments can be annoying but not very difficult. There are are attendance quizzes in class so I don't suggest missing any lectures. For an A on the papers follow the rubric and brush up on APA style.
He's a knowledgeable guy but definitaly intimidating. I needed .1 to get to a B but he wouldn't give it to me even though I attended every single lecture and participated. He does not grade a single thing so your grade really depends on if you get a good TA or not. The class was okay but he does give trick questions on the exam.
Great class and an even better professor. Householder is so funny and makes the lectures easy to follow. The way he interacts with the students during class makes it much easier to pay attention. This is an easy class if you just do the work -which isn't that hard in the first place.
Prof. Householder is very knowledgeable on the topic and is fun in lectures. Papers can be confusing but if you go to office hours and ask questions its more clear. It's easy to get an A on exams if you go to class and take notes.
Would definitely take him again. He gives in-class assignments so attendance is mandatory, but you'll want to go because he makes lectures interesting. Homeworks are good too, all based on notes and movie clips. He grades off of a lot of things so you have plenty of chances to boost your grade.
This semester didn't even have to finish for me to post this review. This is the COVID semester, where we went online, and he went from a bad to horrible professor. Super sarcastic and rude to the students. The TA, Allyson, was a horrific grader as well, giving 0 feedback. Had I known how terrible this class would be, I'd have a different major.
Really enjoyed the class. Definitely not boring and he has a good personality and sense of humor to make the class more relatable.
Dr. Householder is amazing. He is ridiculously funny and his lectures are really enjoyable. Saddest thing about this semester is not being able to attend his lectures due to COVID. Attend class and do your cyber assignments and you'll be golden. No need for a textbook, his lectures cover everything you need to know for the exams.
Make sure to stay on top of your work with the essays and getting them reviewed. GO TO CLASS there are tons of random graded assignments throughout the semester. Midterm and final were pretty straightforward
Man giving out 60 questions on the first exam and you only have 30 minutes to complete it. One attempt for each question.
He's laid back but too laid back. I tried to email him multiple times but never got a response. Also super unorganized in presenting the hw so i would have to search Canvas for the assignment (i even missed an assignment because i couldn't find it). Doesn't give a lot of hw (only 5 assignments) and they are super short.
The transition to online learning due to COVID was smooth! He was able to accommodate his course lecture to fit the entire class best. Great Prof with amazing lectures! Clearly states what he looks for in the two papers. Exams can be a little tedious, but he gave quite a few pop-up assignments that can help boost your grade if you go to class!!
He never give any feedback for your paper. There are 2 major papers. The only words he wrote for me is: "Overall, this a poor outcome. The context levels are elements that you could improve on. We will gladly provide more feedback, but the rubric should be the guide." I followed every requirement and still receive bad grades.
He made communication interesting and understandable. He also gives a lot of easy points by assigning really quick and easy assignments, quizzes, extra credit.
Overall a good prof. Lectures were overall informative and engaging- and the basis for most quizzes/tests. The papers were a bit hard, and the feedback wasn't great, but I'll blame that on the TAs rather than himself. There are lots of extra credit opportunities, and lots of time to do most assignments, so getting an A is definitely possible.
Not a fan of this guy. I've had to take two classes with him because of my major, both times being bad experiences. Rarely responds to emails. Lectures aren't entirely boring but he's always got an attitude. He/his TA's are tough graders and don't give sufficient feedback. My least fav comm prof glad I don't have to take anymore classes with him.
He was one of the best professors I had. His lectures were long but they were very detailed. The work is just small assignments every week with 2-3 short questions to answer. You have two papers to do which are not that hard but you do get feedback from the first one to help. His quizzes and tests are very time constricted but it is not bad.
This man is my favorite professor I've taken at Rutgers. He explicitly states what he wants and what he is expecting from the class. His lectures are genuinely fun to go to. His tests are pretty much exactly what is stated on the study guide. My only qualm is that he does not give the apa guidelines, but you can just look it up and use the examples
He is a nice professor and it's not a hard class. But there are 4 quizzes, 2 papers, and 2 exams in a semester. Each quiz has 10 questions but he just gives us 6 mins to do same as the exams. We don't get enough time to think about the answers. That's the most difficult part to take his class but he gives extra credit to improve your grades.
Doesnt grade anything himself. His TA is terrible, acting as though we are grad students at Yale. Grades so hard and the lectures are boring. No notes on lectures so you have to listen to every syllable he says. Took him for a class before this one, and lets just say I never will again. I cant emphasize enough how hard this TA grades.
Absolutely the worst professor I have taken in college. He gives close to nothing during lectures, reading from a few slides with barely any words. TAs grade hard and give useless "feedback". Assignments say little and expect a lot, with many misspellings. Barely responds to emails resulting in a bad grade for not understanding something.
I took the class asynchronously and online, but I did attend office hours every week which was extremely helpful. He gives you a ton of EC opportunities and as long as you pay attention to his lectures and take good notes, you'll do well. The assignments weren't too bad either, and grading was okay (TA's grade papers and assignments though)
The worst professor that I have ever known. I took his asynchronous class in Summer 2021, and it is super boring. The professor is not engaged and responsible for students at all.
i didnt even get my grade back but i wanted to write this. the only way i can describe this class is eh. his teaching: eh. assignments: eh. all eh. i dont even think he graded them- the TAs did. and an eh job at that. only took this class bc i had to & it knocked out 2 requirements. i wouldnt recommend it. the paper is 20 sources in 5 pgs. what??
Just save yourself and dont take this professor unless absolutely mandatory. Work isnt bad and prof isnt horrible, but its his TAs that will be a literal menace to your college experience. Seriously, his TAs get a power trip off of being horrible to students and grade so harshly in an intro class. Prof doesnt care that they do that either.
Dr. Householder's class was pretty fun, not sure why he is rated so low! He assigns one lecture and one cyber assignment per week (takes 10 minutes to complete questions). The quizzes and tests are simple but timed pretty short (10 questions in 6 min or around 70 questions in 40 min for tests). The 2 papers are okay but TAs grade harshly sometimes.
Just had him for Intro to Comm my Freshman year, he's pretty chill. My class had optional 9 pm zoom calls that went over the hw, he just talked the whole time while asking for volunteers. Pretty easy class, he's not that strict and has a sense of humor. You have like two papers, and the T.A.'s weren't too hard. Hw is easy, i didn't buy textbook
The professor made us watch lengthy clips of old movies for asynchronous assignments which are irrelevant to communication today. Questions for the assignment are then graded by the TAs. The professor also did not fix issues where his TAs wouldn't read our assignments in its entirety yet graded harshly.
Professor Householder knows what he's talking about and definitely makes you work for your grade (the exam the day after spring break being a prime example). As tough as the course content can be to understand, you're graded entirely by your TA so Professor is there as more of a lecturer. Class isn't assignment heavy either.
Householder is a great professor overall. He tends to connect with students in a conversational approach. There are about 2 hours' worth of videos to watch every week (a bit more if you take notes). Quizzes and the midterms have T/F and MC questions from the lectures (mostly). Only issue I found is that there was a lot of work.
If communications does not interest you I do not recommend taking this course. He is very passionate about the material and is not clear with grading when it comes to the tedious papers. Some of the questions on the exams are copied from the quizzes, my biggest grade anchor was the exams.
Prof Householder posts about 2 hrs of lectures each week with multiple homework assignments due on random days of the week. The lectures are not very helpful, making the assignments difficult as the concepts we are supposed to connect to are poorly explained. He is a willing to help though and is a pretty nice guy.
Very confusing lectures that leaves one wondering what was just said. Many papers and grades unfairly.
Lots of homework, so be prepared to watch 2-4 hours of video clips, 1000 words writing prompts, and face rude TAs every week.
I took his persuasive communication as my summer course. He is not accessible, hardly replying to emails, and not paying attention to the course. It took me nearly 2 weeks to meet with him (via phone BTW). The grading system is nonsense. I get 10/10 for outline (Avg:5/10) resulting in a 22/30 for the draft.
The worst professor I have ever encountered at this school. Incredibly misogynistic and will talk down to you. Incredibly unprofessional and just down right rude.
I don't understand how Householder has his job. Since day 1, he constantly used too much profanity during class. he would say "wh*re" or "sl*t" when describing characters in the hw assignments. He felt superior to his students and would talk down on us. He never answered emails. and his tests are extremely hard compared to what is taught in class.
textbook wasn't really needed tbh
He's really funny and it's a big lecture hall so you don't have to be fully engaged. Greatly appreciated that it was a hybrid course. Assignments were fun like watching movie clips, with the exception of 2 reports we had to write.
The class could've honestly been online but he required attendance. His TAs grade everything. I asked to make an appointment with him and I didn't even know if it was scheduled or not bc he never responded to my email, I only knew once I asked again. The class isnt that hard if you do the work.
He is the worse professor I have encountered in college. unprofessional, very rude and would talk down to you. never respond to emails and his TA is rude too. very disappointing taking his course
The class consisted of online lectures, followed by mandatory in-person lectures. Sometimes let out of class 40 minutes early. Very easy two APA papers and all quizzes online. Quizzes consist of textbook and lecture content. Extra credit is offered and helped bump my grade. TAs were great! Overall not good or bad professor, but mainly busy work.
This class should have been online, and the fact that he made attendance mandatory is a crime. He's pretentious and tried to make the subject seem more important than it was. His TA's grade everything, lectures are all online, and class was a waste of time filled with busy work.
This teacher is really light, the work not so much... The grading is lowkey harsh, the midterms and quizzes (given 5 mins) are timed but fair. He gives good feedback (or the TA;s do at least). He answers emails really fast. Very sarcastic, very open. Good overall.
I took this class asynch, in person one day, online for the rest. Exams were all multiple choice and the 4 quizzes throughout the class were all very easy. I got 100% on all 4. He is very funny and relatable and gave many opportunities for extra credit and extended due dates. There was a cyber assignment due every week, also very simple.
I took Householder for Intro to comm and I got lucky to be put in a hybrid setting. Overall, this class is very doable, but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who's taking the class for an easy A. You have to put in a decent amount of work. The TA's grade all of the work, and my TA was not good at all. If you don't need the class, don't take it.
He really does not seem to care about his students and lacks understanding. He has a pompous air about him. He clearly thinks a little too highly of himself. When I spoke to him, he was rude and spoke down to me. Avoid this professor if you can. There are plenty of other wonderful, caring, and supportive professors in the department.
the class was supposed to be in person but it became online. he was very difficult to speak to (ironic- bad at communication), used vulgar language in class often, and did not care about his students. the papers were pretty harshly graded. overall it is still easy to and with an A in the class. we had a very short amount of time for final and tests
Took Professor Householder this summer for Persuasive Comm. His class is lecture heavy but super easy to navigate. He held live sessions every week that were not mandatory, but participation was rewarded with extra credit points. Overall very helpful and a fair grader!
I enjoyed Professor Householder's class. Cyber assignments were pretty easy and just graded on completion. There are two big papers which are a pretty heavy load. Only 4 quizzes which are taken outside of class. Two exams that are also online. Make sure to look at the study guide for exams because you are given about 70 questions in 40 minutes.
Very full of himself. His emails are very passive aggressive. Not likeable. Can be funny at times. Papers are pretty easy, but depend heavily on the TA. A lot, A LOT of memorization for midterm and final.
For the tests, he gave us literally barely any time to do it! Our final had 76 questions and it was so stressful because he barely gave us anytime to complete it. All of the tests were like this. Find another professor.
Takes incredibly wrong to grade. Even with like 7 TA's, it takes well over a month to get anything back. Arrogant person. Takes the subject far too seriously.
Overall he's actually a great teacher, but the papers and tests were difficult. Prior to this class, I have never gotten below a B on a paper, but in this class I got a C and D on both papers. Also, he barely gives time for exams. The final was 76 questions within 40 minutes. However, there are LOTS of extra credit opportunities. Take advantage.
I took this class hybrid, and so the lectures were once a week, but they were the funniest lectures I've been to. There are 2 papers, 2 exams for the whole course, and an assignment almost every week. The assignments are very easy and doable, as the instructions are pretty clear. The TAs are also very helpful, as they give proper feedback.
Attendance "not mandatory," but there are activities in class (at random) and count for a grade, so basically it is mandatory. Weekly assignments graded on completion basically. Papers graded HARSHLY and feedback not helpful. Only have a week to complete the papers. Exams have little to no time to complete. Funny and nice teacher though.
I did the hybrid version of this class and it was pretty easy, however I would recommend watching the lecture videos he puts out because he talks about way more that you need to know about then if you just look at the slides. He is funny but keeps it 100% real. Just remember to give yourself time to study for the exams, they are online but timed.
Took the class hybrid, the exams aren't difficult at all, but you do have to watch his lecture videos (~45 min a week). I didn't read the textbook and his in-person lectures are just a recap of the videos, so everyone only goes for attendance. Two papers and two online midterms, weekly homework assignments take 20 minutes max.
Hybrid class is fairly easy. Went to every lecture and only looked at the slides, watched the videos if I needed to. 4 quizzes, cyber assignments, midterm and final (both timed) and 2 papers. Limited time on the exams but he and his TAs give guidance on the papers, use them! I didn't on the first one but did on the second and got a better grade.
the class was easy it was based on 2 papers, 2 midterms and weekly cyber assignments that you need to watch videos for. His lectures were low key annoying sometimes. The TA's can also be a little extra when grading papers. overall easy class not much work.
incredibly blunt and crude sense of humor, can be very off putting to some. can be very passive aggressive, exams and quizzes are not formatted well with twice as many questions as the amount of time you're given. paper grades often take a while to come back even with 4 TA's who give contradicting feedback. don't take this course unless you have to
Don't take this is as a free A class. I got an A but your only real grades are the 2 papers, midterm, and final. Bomb any of those and an A is out of reach. Papers are graded too harshly (even though I got a 90+ on both) and not worth the trouble if you're looking for a free A. Unless you NEED to take it, find a different free A course to take.
One of the most pretentious professors I've ever had. He claims communication is the hardest subject and makes assignments unnecessarily difficult. Grading is vague, and he rarely gives As because "an A is perfect." Constantly brags about how rich he is and how he golfed with Trump. Not the worst, but definitely the most annoying.
Extremely arrogant and uses super dirty language in class. He constantly brags about meeting Trump, golfing with him, and constantly wants to brag about how rich he is, or that time he was a professor at UCLA. There's a TON of extra credit in this class. Four TAs rarely attend their own office hours and take 1 month to grade, even with FOUR.
Grading criteria is always unclear. Harsh grader, always sarcastic and never gives anyone leeway when it comes to errors involving assignments. The TA Hyun Sunwoo was incredibly rude and made me feel dumb when I was asking her questions for his class. I don't like the way they handle assignments overall. Don't take this professor.
As long as you watch the videos (or skim lecture slides like I did) the hybrid course will be just fine. FOLLOW THE ESSAY RUBRICS, because some of the instructions don't include things the rubric grades, and you will get an A on the paper. Strong use of profanity, but funny.
Do not take this professor. His class is poorly organized but the hardest part about this class is his personality. He is extremely arrogant and makes a lot of sexist jokes in class, his assignments are graded poorly and have hard-to-follow rubrics, the in-person lectures are entirely pointless except for participation credit. AVOID HIM AT ALL COST
We fr have a 6 page paper on vocabulary words and comparing them to a leader as well as 4 other assignments he assigned all due the same day. He is inconsiderate for no reason and doesn't do extensions at all. Don't take this Professor.
RUN AWAY AND DONT LOOK BACK
Professor's lectures can be hit-or-miss, but the class is manageable overall. Weekly assignments are easy, but papers are graded harshly. unstuck AI was a lifesaver for exam prep.
great professor, not sure why there are so many negative ratings. as long as you do the reading, complete all the small weekly assignments and do the papers you'll do well. also felt like a friendly and comfortable class environment
Professor Householder was a great prof and I really enjoyed the online lectures. Gave many extra credit points if you went to events and showed proof. In class lectures were the same as the online ones, but sometimes there are paper assignments that if you miss, your grade will plummet. Papers are strict but easy to write.
Honestly one of the most funny and intriguing professors I have ever had. His teaching style is very direct and fun. He is clear with his grading criteria and the work load given is not anything over the top. If you want a fun class, with a light work load and a great teacher that makes the whole class laugh, take Householder!
Householder is a very good professor. A lot of people discredit him because of some misconceptions about him. A lot of people say he is a tough grader but me and my buddy both simply followed the rubric for his papers and never did worse than a B. He is a bit of an acquired taste socially. But overall not bad. TAs are not helpful I will say.
Hybrid class. Two exams (non-cumulative) and two papers that are 6/10 difficulty and the TAs grade it pretty harshly. Weekly online assignments that take me about 45 mins each week and some in person assignments done in class and can't be made up so attendance is hit or miss. Overall good guy and fun class (plays good music before each class)
I had his honors Comm 101 section and it was pretty good. Hybrid class, so all of the lectures were presented online and could sometimes take a long time but it was nothing terrible. 2 MCQ exams, 4 quizzes, and 2 papers, all of which were manageable with minimal to no studying if you watched the lectures throughout the semester.
I liked him. He's super funny and makes class fun. Assignments were not hard at all, just submit things on time and you're all set. Sometimes has in-class paper assignments that you need to be there for, but he doesn't announce them, you have to guess and show up. He talks a lot and is lecture heavy. Overall, I would take him again
Professor Householder chose the worst TA's possible. They grade so unfairly and are rude in their comments. He is also unhelpful when it comes to emailing. Do not take this class, terrible at communicating (ironic for a comms class). Most disrespectful person hired by Rutgers.
Hybrid Class, some lectures were heavy, not too bad, 2 papers, grading is rough however the rubrics should help, make sure to use APA properly (very strict on that), the class was pretty interesting overall, be present in class as there are in-class assignments that can boost your grade, there is also a fair amount of extra credit opportunities
Stuck in his ways and headstrong. Not very understanding of students and will not admit if he's wrong. Would not expect sufficient assistance from him either.
Professor Householder is an alright Professor who teaches a topic that is uninteresting at best. Very easy, everything is online. My rule of thumb is that you cheat on every SAS core that isn't your major, and this class definetely falls into that. Random in class credit, so attendance is required. Essays aren't bad, only take for core.
Overall unprofessional and difficult. His TA's were also horrible. If anyone is thinking about taking this class for an SAS requirement I would definitely recommend something else, this class is not worth your time or money. Honestly would say that I learned very little as this class also lacked substance.
All that needs to be said is that he made the final on Mother's Day with only one window to do it in the evening, then also set two separate times for when it had to be done. Probably the worst professor I have had here. Choose something else.
WAYY too strict for an intro class, and prof is rude & ARROGANT! Not worth the core req nor the frustration. It seems like TAs and prof are on a power trip since ppl don't see comms as hard, so they want to make grading stricter than necessary. Unprofessional class that lacks substance.
Just a terrible teacher that thinks his way is the right way. Grades like it's an important class when everyone knows this class is useless and communication will never help you in the future. Essays are graded hard like your taking a English course and he thinks if you don't use his textbook it's plagerism
Ok so there are these random in-class activities to check if you are present, 4 quizzes, 2 papers (harshly graded), small cyber assignments, midterm/final. I don't think his class is that bad as long as you pay attention to the assignments and put the time in. BE CAREFUL USING AI ON THE CYBERS. Class is not an easy A. Put time in, maybe a B or A
Just do yourself a favor and don't take him
Terrible grader but one day this guy wearing a Batman costume bursts in the lecture hall and shouts "SIX MILLION COOKIES BUT NO ONE KNOWS THE BAKER?" Obviously we were all confused by this, but then professor Householder blinds the guy with his shiny waxed bald head! Then he said "It's Housin' time" and Housed all over the place! Everyone clapped.
The professor himself is chill and pretty nice but the grading systems on the papers are awful. There are so many TA's and their feedbacks would always contradict each other. I got my paper reviewed by one TA and he gave me feedback and I revised based on his feedback and then another TA graded my paper and commented that it was mid...
Honestly he was a cool dude and his assignments were fun. unfortunately him and his ta's were on a power trip so It is hard to get an A in this class but it is an easy b or b+
