Good teacher but not much of a personality.
A good teacher, but isn't very willing to help after class.
While I had no problems with mat 35, this teacher was tremendously boring, and assigned a ton of unnessesary homework. On the good side he makes good test questions that make reasonable answers, test questions are always easier than homework questions
I took him for Intermediate Algebra. I was third ranked in his class. He is so good that I am taking him for stats. He is a straight forward person and excellent at teaching. I recommend him. If you don't like lots of homework--He is not for you

Mr. Johnson is a wonderful instructor. He is very clear and detailed in his explanations and I have never had any trouble receiving help outside of class. He does assign quite a bit of homework, but it is only for the student's benefit because tests and quizzes are much easier than the homework.
Super easy. Gives thorough, easy to understand notes and good reviews. He really doesn't have much of a personality; he cracked about three jokes over the semester... they weren't funny at all but it was hilarious just the same, because he was trying! EASY class... take it!
Didn't enjoy the class at all; not only is the man extremely dry, but his lectures were confusing. There wasn't a single A in my class, and only three of us got a B. Would definitely recommend taking a different professor, unless math comes easy to you or you have to take it.
Very easy class, Mr. Johnson is a very good teacher. Clarifies everything. Needs to have more of a sense of humor though. Recommend takin this class with him!
NOT REALLY THAT GREAT OF A TEACHER. TOOK HIM TWICE GOT C'S BOTH TIMES. DONT REALLY KNOW WHY I TOOK HIM AGAIN.
Anyone complaining about Mr. J is lazy and unprepared for a college workload. The classes were great; I EARNED A's in both Math 35 and Stats. Don't take this professor if you don't want to learn or if you expect a good grade just handed to you with no effort on your part.
This guy is so easy! He even let us use our notes in the exams, even in the final! He gives a lot of homework but that's a good preparation for the exams. He tries to answer every homework question you have. But if you have questions that go beyond what is in the textbook, he is not able answer them.
Good teacher. Sticks to the basics, doesnt try to explain crazy concepts you dont need to know. Kind of a lot of homework, but its great practice for exams. he fully explains and works out every homework problem you ask him to.
It was an easy class but he is very dry. It seemed to me that he doesn't like his job. It was pretty boring but overall it was easy.
i had algebra 3 times (waiver) before i passed with him, then i took stats and passed the heck out of that too! About as funny as a car wreck but do you want to learn math or jokes... clown. Great teacher and willing to help you get out of RCC, awful loser.
Not a very nice teacher! Doesn't care about how his students do. The tests suck! I took this class with a defferent teacher and passed with flying colors! Don't take this class with him!
if you are not naturally gifted in math DO NOT take this teacher! he is impatient, arrogant and uncaring to those who need a little more assistance. i have come across MANY people (mostly females) that feel the same way and had to end up dropping his class or risk a failing grade.
I am a female, and I earned A's in both classes I took with Mr. Johnson. If some students stopped spending so much time looking for scapegoats and started spending more time focusing on class, then maybe their grades would improve!
Mr. Johnson is a good teacher. He is very thorough and helps students if necessary. It may seem as though he is uninterested, but that's not true. He will help you if you go ask him during his office hours. One thing you have to understand is that you have to put effort into any math class. I got A's in both.
This class is extremely fun. If you have his sense of humor--even better. I don't know what everyone else is crying about--they were probably just not smart. I found him hillarious. Nobody understood his jokes because it requires an intellectual mind to understand--I received an A in both classes.
While I got an A in his class, I agree that he's not too sympathetic to those who need a little extra help. Very impersonal, he needs to lighten up a little with his students, but his lectures are awesome, he's very clear & precise, & he approaches difficult problems, with a calmness that stops you from freaking out-"It's just a pattern..."
He is a nerd. he always wears Green, and when he writes on the board and talks to the class at the same time it looks like hes talking out of his armpit. the class was somewhat easy. i got a "C"
If you like math you'll do well, if not...stay away from this teacher. He's not very helpful when you ask him to explain the material. He's somewhat of a jerk, but if you want to be in a class where the teacher just goes there and talks without caring if you're paying attention or not, then take his class. Otherwise, find someone else.
The class is easy if you like math! Even if you don't like math it's not difficult to pass at all!His teaching skills are tremendous and he is clear but doesn't really help you after class! He does however take similar questions from homework and classwork on tests!
To tell the truth I hardly paid any attention in this class whatsoever.I did most of my studying on my own time,so I really can't comment on his teaching abilities. But his tests are fairly easy, and very fair. Many questions form from the easier ones in the book. Also for homework he is willing to answer any questions before class, and in his office.
I did not like him at all. I had to drop this class so I did not fail permanently
Mr. Johnson is a very nice teacher. I had to take this class over, I explained to him that I didn't get it the 1st time please go slow. He was very fast with his lectures. But I was able to go talk with him after class and before to understand the concepts of Geometry. He helpful and nice.
I think he was the most fair teacher I have ever taken. Grades go by points so no one else can screw you up. He makes sure you understand the material and there are no super hard questions on the test that make you feel like you've never even seen anything like it. Overall a good teacher.
He's a very nice teacher.

well, he was quite boring. he is a nice guy and does his job, but he didnt seem to want to be bothered with questions. if you do your homework, the rest is easy
No easy but not hard. Not good or bad. It's all just ordinary. Every day he does the same thing over and over again with diffrent questions of course. Never talk about anything else except his lecture. So the class is just quiet all the time ....
He is very fair, do the HW and youll be fine.
One of the best math teachers I ever had, very thorough. Lectures can get boring, repetitive.. but it's math-35, what do you expect? I found it very easy to learn from his method of teaching.
I had him from precalculus (Math 10) all through single-variable calculus. Wonderful professor! Lectures are thorough, and he has a neat sense of humor if you can come to understand it. I'd recommend him to anyone in the lower or the higher math classes. He is always open to questions. I learned so much!
had him for the hybrid class, way too much homework. thought he would be a little easier on the work because we were first hybrid. exams were ALL fill in no multuple choice he would have questions on the exams that werent even in the book. other than that he was cool explained things good think i would have done better in a regular class.
I suck at math and I still got a B. Just go to class watch the lectures online and you'll be okay.
He is my favorite teacher. I took him 1A, 12, and 1B. He is very helpful-answers all your questions. His way of teaching is wonderful. You learn a lot.
Awsome
He's cool. Enough homework to learn, but not overwhelming. Good lessons and he helps when I get stuck.
Mr. Johnson is awesome! I took him for his online course and passed with an "A" He is extremely helpful and his online lessons rock. He will help and explain even more thouroughly, if you ask. We did have quite a lot of homework but that made the tests easier. I didn't use my book at all. I just took notes from his lesson. Totally recommend him.
HARD HARD HARD. I was hoping he was going to drop the lowest test grade, but I was out of luck. HOWEVER, I failed the final exam and still passed the class with a C.
The best teacher I've ever had. I was stuck at RCC because I failed 3 math classes. Took Brian for Int. Alg. and Stats. Both passed with a B. Went on to University where I since graduated but I wanted to Rate him anyways because he was the best math Teacher I've ever had. I pulled out his stat. notes ALL THE TIME while working on my psych. degree.
(Online) The lessons were always very clear, concise, and made my hated subject (math) the easiest it's ever been, because I understood the whole class clearly. He always replied to email fast with examples/explanations when I had a question. Definitely the best online teacher I've had. Didn't need a book because his lessons were that clear.
Great online instruction! A lot of complaints coming from fellow students saying his tests did not reflect homework. True in some cases however, all it did was make us engage our brains a little more. If you are looking for the easy "A", this is not the class for you. Very helpful and fair. I strongly recommend taking him.
Johnsons class was the best ever on line. the lectures are recorded and you can stop n rewind, so u can actually take good notes. and the h.w. assigments help w/ the test b/c u can redou the problem untill u get it right wich byfar is a much better than traditional class settings.i tried taking in b4 and failed miserably b/s lectrs r always rushed.
crystal clear .knows what and how to teach effectively...easy going...funny....intelligent and i couldn't have asked for a better math teacher....i went from despising math to adoring it....teachers make a huge difference
Great instructor! I took at class at RCC for Fall (Yvonne Ash) and I was failing so I dropped it, and as soon as I took the course with Mr. Johnson, it made so much more sense! The lectures make it 100x easier to understand, he is very approachable and his tests/assignments are reasonable. I would definitely recommend!
He was great! At the time, I felt overwhelmed; however, I learned so much! He explains math concepts simple and to the point! He does give lots of homework but, it will help you in the long run! He gives plenty of study guides to prepare you for test! Great professor!
Johnson is a really nice and fairly funny man. I took the course during Winter of '10. Therefore the class was excelled, but he made it really easy on the students. He was easy to understand, a fair grader, and the test reviews were extremely helpful. I would suggest taking this teacher.
The class isn't the worst I've ever had...but he isn't helpful. He also makes rules and cut off dates without telling people. He gave me C eventhough I was in the B percentile because my homework was a day late...eventhough the program allowed us to still do it and he never said it would cut off at a certain time. He is unfair at times.
I rarely attended his class. I loved the online lessons he gave. If you watch them and do your homework you should do well.
a big zero do not take him.
RCC Math proff easiness in "calculus courses or above." D. Smith, K.Nabours, B.Johnson, Robles = 5, Cheik=3, Ruiz, Chui Z = 2, Sean Drake = 1(If you can't trust me, take him.), Sanchez = 0 The quantatity of hw I got from Johnson was the most. But only for A, his course was the easiset. It is not becuz I solved many hw, but becuz his exam is easy.
The class is hard but Johnson is easy enough. I took it online over summer and got a C. He is a nice guy but he is just kinda boring. teaches straight out of the text book. His Online is better bcuz you can rewind it until you understand. I would recommend muting the videos and putting on your ipod he is that dull but he is a pretty good teacher :)
The BEST teacher to take if you want to really understand Multivariable Calculus. He gives you lots of homework which is a GOOD thing because solving lots of problems is the only way to actually succeed in any math-related field. He has all of his lectures online. Not the most exciting, but a very nice guy. Go to office hours.
He teaches you nothing. He expects you to know it and if you ask him for help he just does the problem and moves on without explaining. Awful.
Professor Johnson put together a good online program for MAT 35. If you are a math phobic and need 35 for your program, consider taking Mr. Johnson's class online. He has a way of describing complicated concepts well. On the discussion board, he seems accessible. Online means you get to go over things over and over. Multimedia homework is fun!
He is a great techer who is dedciated to his student. He is very helpful and give a lot of homework assignment and quizzes every two week.
I've taken 4math classes at RCC and i would say Johnson was fair and teaches well. His tests are mostly from the home work, He's also good going and not boring.
He makes math really easy! Don't be ashamed to ask him any doubt! He gives a lot of homework, but it is due every test day, so you have time to comprehend it well! Really good teacher for Multivariable calculus!
Great teacher, gave lots of examples and tried to teach in many different ways. Best math teacher ever
Makes math a lot easier. Fun class
Yup I finally understand math thanks to him. Overall very awesome teacher I will be definitely trying to attend all the classes he offers
Took Trig during the Summer and it was so fun. I didnt like trig in high school but i learned to love in a short 6 week course. Taking his class was one of the best decisions I made because he is an awesome teacher and is so clear. He went over homework everyday if people had questions & always went above and beyond to make us understand. Take him!
It is a math class, so overall it is pretty boring. He does throw in a few jokes that lighten the mood. The class is based on yourself. There is 4 tests 4 homework packets and that is about it. Overall you earn your grade
Nice professor, but I had to drop his class because it was a hybrid class. Math is my worst subject and the hybrid teaching method did not work for me. It consisted of watching videos the professor posts online to "self teach" the math and then doing homework. Then you ask any questions in class. Personally, I did not like the "self teaching".
Expected everyone in the class to know everything before he even taught it. didn't explain anything and always skipped steps making it so we had to figure out how he got that answer. not a good teacher at all
Took this class fall 2013. great instructor. hybrid class so you did your homework from his videos and went over in next class. He is very patient and explains problems well. I would recommend him for mat 35 class. Do your homework and study they study guides there almost exactly like the tests.
Professor Johnson is honestly one of the best math teachers I have had! He is straight to the point, and explains things so clearly. If you have any questions, stay a couple of minutes after class and he will be happy to help.
This class was terrible, if you do poorly on the test your screwed. There is only 500 possible points you can make in the class and no extra credit! What sucks is that he never grade the homework, he only check it all on the day of the test. Which leave people clueless if they are doing the problems right...
I cannot believe I passed this class, Johnson passed me with a C but I definitely deserved a B in this class but I blame that entirely on Johnson. I felt like I was walking a tight rope the entire semester. First off he doesn't explain anything unless you meet with him after class, that's if he even makes it to class. I do not recommend him.
Prof. Johnson's class was really easy but fast paced. i took his trig class in the winter and as long as you did your homework and paid attention in class you passed. you can almost tell he didnt want to be there just as much as us but still tried to keep the class entertained. and he doesnt answer emails. but all in all his class is worth taking.
professor johnson is a great teacher. It was a winter class, so it was quick paced. He did skip 2 classes, without giving us notice, but we still managed to finish everything with ease. He gave us a geometry review which i found really helpful. It's Math so don't expect it to be interesting. I would defiantly take him again.
I took Professor Johnson for Math 36, 1A, and 1C and I can say he is the best math teacher at Norco. He clearly explains concepts in his lectures. He adds some light humor to make lectures more interesting. I always hated Math but he made me learn to appreciate it. HW is required; he just checks it on test day though. Highly recommend him.
Took online. I am not good at math and this class was great! Lots of homework and quizzes but you can re-do homework as many times as it takes to get it correct before due date. Two chances on quizzes. Midterm and Final not bad as long as you do the study guides. There are discussion posts but pretty easy. Prof. always responded promptly to emails
Hands down the best math teacher I have ever had! Prof. Johnson understands that people make mistakes and how you arrive at your answer is just as important, as such, he is extreemly generous with partial credit on tests for showing your work, even if your final answer is wrong. He is clear and elaborates when you have questions.
Literally the worst class I've ever taken. Listed as a hybrid, this class feels like an online class with homework help. He does no lecture in class, if you don't have time to spend watching his lectures at home - you're screwed. In class, if you're confused with his answers he'll look at you like you're stupid. I spent $200 for Khan Academy.
Amazing lectures!!! He is really easy. You will get an A if you do all the HW
I felt like i actually knew what i was doing in this class. He knew his stuff and made the material easy enough for you to understand. Personally the class being a hybrid class considerably helped me but if you don't enjoy a hybrid class as much i still feel like you would be able to understand the content that he teaches.
Johnson is a beast, he's the best math teacher in all 3 districts. He is very forward although over the years he has gotten a bit lazy. Had him for trig and it was fun and now for 1c and its fun. Received an A in both.
took his MAT35 hybrid class, his youtube videos were helpful and he sent time going over concepts and homework in class. tests arent too challenging . kinda gets disorganized towards the end of the semester.
Best math teacher I have had at Norco. Took him this summer for 1A. He will take the time to explain anything at all to you and present it in a way you can understand. There is a good amount of homework, but with math, the more you practice the better off you will know the material. Wish he taught 1B, will look for him for 1C.
He is the best math professor I've ever had! i took the hybrid class. Explains theory very clearly, just need to follow him closely. Online lectures are amazing. He makes math look like and easy and fun subject. Gives a good amount of homework, but its very helpful for tests. Good reviews prior to tests. Highly recommend
I found this class to be very difficult. I would suggest not taking this class if you find Math to be a challenging subject. There were many occasions where he would do the work in his head, by the time I figured out how he got the answer he had already moved on. I took his hybrid course, watched all the lectures, went to tutoring and did not pass.
If you're one of those people who are just naturally good at math and enjoy teaching yourself, then this class is probably for you. However, if you are like me and you NEED the extra help in math, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Lots of lecture + hybrid class, so you're doing a lot of self-teaching.
Okay so here's the deal. He gives no study guide, and the only extra credit opportunity is he lets you take a make up test that would drop ur lowest test score. Hardest A i have ever worked for. I thought trig would be a breeze. However he is a pretty chill prof. He teaches good, and that's all that matters. Get ready for homework. Also funny
He's your basic math professor. If you're good at math, you'll probably do fine. If you struggle at math, he's there to help. He always answers homework questions. Tests are just like what you see in the homework, and he gives a study guide for the final (which is easier than the exams). If I spent more time trying, I could have gotten an A
Johnson's class was very easy. I'm not good at math usually but he made it easy to understand. Do the homework and you'll pass no problem. Grade is based off 4 exams (he drops lowest) and the final. Online reviews. Homework is extra points towards exams.
I had him for Trig. Mr. Johnson explains concepts very well. He is willing to help when you need to and often makes time for just this. The homework can be a pain, as with a lot of math classes, there's loads of it. Really, to do well in his class you do have to work hard, and do all the homework. Seriously, do the homework, or fail like I did.
He's a gem at Norco College, he knows his material and can explain it front ways and back and appreciates a math challenge if you can give him one. He is super chill and explains the material very well. He is also a very fair teacher, no games like other teachers do. I recommend him 2 all my friends, and they say the same thing.
Prof. Johnson is nice however, every time you show up to his class, theres going to be that same old boring lecture he gives on each chapter with no variety in teaching methods and he explains things WAY TOO FAST that you can barely keep up and understand what he is talking about. Overall, he is a boring professor that gives you a headache.
take MAT1A at winter term, if you want get an A, you need to do the homework, and worksheets. Also review the examples problems from the book or your note. Test not that hard but also not easy.
He was alright. He's great at explaining WHY we do what we do, but he also doesnt give enough examples to fully understand the topic. I took him for winter and it was honestly the hardest A I have ever worked for in Math. Math is so easy for me but over the winter I found the tutor filled in the gaps from class. maybe hes different in a long semest
He was so fast when he was teaching when Id ask a question he made me feel stupid and he always made smart remarks telling me I need to go back and see what we just learned. Like dude we just learned this today how am I going to remember everything? I ended up dropping because I felt I couldnt learn from him anymore
Can anyone tell me in his Mat 2 class, do you guys quiz? Or only exam. Do you guys have study guide?
He is a great professor, his test is not easy to pass so you need to work very hard for it, but the good news is he is not a tough grader, he gives points as much as he can.
Prof Johnson is super funny in a dad-joke sort of way. He tries to keep lectures interesting. His YouTube videos are really, really helpful as a supplement to lecture. There are very few graded exams, and homework is extra credit, so learn the concepts well. His exams are easy questions based on all the examples he does.
Awesome teacher. Would definitely take again
Hes a great guy. He knows his subject well. When students were confused he made his examples even easier to understand. Goes over his problem thoroughly, sometimes skips very easy steps. You can see how much he likes math which I love in any professor. Mentions basic formulas and asks where they came from, then with a smile shows you:)
I took math 12 , and it was the worst class Lectures are heavy! Must practice a lot He doesnt give extra credit! Would be late sometimes and not prepared for example he would forget the text book to teach
Professor Johnson knows his material and is there to help. He goes over homework questions each class session. No quizzes or group work. No extra credit and homework is due on exam day. He gives a study guide for each exam. I'd recommend tutoring if you struggle with math since it's not an easy A. Do ALL the homework!
Professor Johnson is a great calculus professor at Norco Community College. He teaches the right amount of material in lecture with spare time for a review. Review days and doing the homework are key to success in his class. This class is perfect for anyone who struggles in calculus, but you need to put the time in to practice on the reviews and hw
Taking Johnson for accelerated Calculus is a real challenge. His homework deliberately focuses on the hardest problems in the exercises, which can make homework take forever. Strangely, his exams are easier. When he lectures, he tends to skip through several steps of solving a problem when those steps are algebra. He loves to show off math proofs.
this was a online class in the beginning, before the covid-19 he only has two exams which is the midterm chps 1-6 and final exam 7-12 homework unlimited try's and redo quiz's for a higher grade even after the due date replies back fast on emails. for any rounding errors he will provide some credit/
I took his class online during the covid pandemic. His lectures were lackluster; he just went over the examples from the book itself and the lectures themselves were prerecorded-there was no lecture via zoom etc. to ask questions in person. I would've really appreciated if he put more effort into the lectures... I learned more from YouTube :/
I took Calc I during the winter (accelerated) and it was a lot of work. No zoom. Lectures pre-recorded videos. It was a rough 6 weeks. The hw & exams are all online with Pearson. He assigns a ton of hw, difficult 9 exams, & cumulative final. If you have job, family & kids, you'll have to put so much of effort. Otherwise find different Professor.
Good organization of an online class and very kind and flexible.
He is a great professor.
10/10
Doesnt teach at all and uses pearson to do the teaching. He provides no study guide so you are covering everything. Makes errors on the test due date so if you happen to wait to take the test, oops he made a mistake and its due today.
You gotta teach yourself for most of the course and be prepared for several errors regarding due dates on the professors end. Offers no study guide and no extra credit.
Whatever you do do not take this professor. He teaches the subject as if the student already knows it and expects us to understand a whole calculus concept by solving a couple exercises on the board by himself.Does not have canvas,hw and tests on paper,no extra credit and an extremely tough grader.
3 tests 50% 6 quizzes 15% H.W. 15% Final 20% everything is online you have to teach yourself all the material, you have to input your answers on the test the way mathlab wants it inputted, if not it will mark it wrong, it won't give you partial credit
as someone who loves math he made me hate it. he teaches like you're supposed to already know the subject, and the only things for your grade are homework (which is only 10 points for so much work) and tests. only chose this class as a last resort or you're already good at calc. his class feels very unorganized and the work load is way to much
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Your grade is based on 3 exams and the final. No quizzes, no assignments, nothing. I had straight As in high school and now a C in calc. Most people are failing. His exams are way harder than study guide. He teaches too fast and doesn't properly cover material. There are better math teachers at Norco.
Stay away from Mr. Johnson, he is not friendly with his students and whenever I ask a question about the study guide or worksheets or say hello, he never smiles and is grumpy. Assumes students in calculus are smarter even when I am not a beast in math, banning note cards on exams, test retakes and even took away 10 minute breaks.
Steer clear of Mr. Johnson! He does not allow anyone to bring notecards or formula sheets to exams, and loads up the unit tests with super difficult word problems as he assumes calculus students are very smart. He will never smile and has an unprofessional attitude towards his students, even when you ask a question on your worksheet or lecture.
Update: CONS: A lot of difficult homework that isn't proportionate to what he teaches and doesn't go over enough material for his lectures. Most of the students are failing the Calculus 1 course due to this. Pros: Worksheets and study guides are almost similar to exams, which are easier than the homework. Provides class breaks. Do not take him.
Winter quarter online: does not teach; everything is self taught via Pearson. He takes too long to respond to questions. Forgot to post the module to Canvas but still only made it available thurs-sunday. I work weekends, so only having one day to do eight assignments and two quizzes because of his lack of responsibility is ridiculous.
Johnson is my perfect teacher! Very easy to follow and straightforward lectures— we'd be out of class 30-1 hr early. Grading isn't the best though— grade consists of homework and 3 exams. He will pass you as long as you try!
Your exams determine your overall grade. Homework is 30-40 points total, so make sure to do good on your exams. You can't use anything but pencil and calculator during exams so put in the time and effort to memorize steps and formulas SMH. If your answer is wrong, you get 0 points. Easy math, but just sucks he expects us to memorize things.
