Best proffesor ever. you dont really need the textbook all the stories he gives you can be found on the internet. He loves to go off topic and have great and meaningful discussions. he is a very good grader and an easy A. I would definitely prefer him over any english teacher.

Likes to push buttons; but gets everyone (or almost everyone) to work. Quirky and kind.

Just when you don't think there is a point, Katz pulls it all together. With all the heavy conversations, one almost feels like they've "survived" the course. I'm a survivor and better off for it.

This guy is a great teacher who is highly intelligent and uses that to give great class conversations. He demands a lot from his students but it is worth it at the end.

No tests. 4 essays plus final which is an essay. No lectures, only class discussions. Very controversial issues discussed, if you cannot handle controversy do not take. He will make you a great writer and gives grades based on skill and effort. Minimal readings, but read what he tells you to. High recommended without a doubt. Excellent professor.

An excellent professor. English 12 is generally not a fun required course, but Katz does his best to keep the class interested. Lots of robust conversations.

Professor Katz is not only extremely knowledgeable, but also very skilled as an English teacher in helping students to become better writers. Class participation is encouraged, and he loves when students have opinions and think outside of the box. One thing for sure, you will learn a lot in his class - not just about writing, but about life.

he's a great professor, very smart and he makes his classes really interesting. but! he is a REALLY REALLY stingy grader... i've got A's in all of the assignments and he told me that finals wasn't that important , i still tried my best on it but i still received an A- for my final grade. i guess it doesn't matter much anymore since he's retiring.

Not hard to pass his class. But I disagree with some reviewers, it isn't easy to get a good grade. Getting an A isn't easy in his class. Katz is really strict about attendance and my absences killed my grade. I went from an A+ to a B. Still, he's fun and weird.

This was not an easy class, especially considering it was online, but Brian Katz offered an interesting design to the course that relied upon weekly discussions, journals, essays, and creative writings. He was usually available by email and during office hours. At times it felt more like a philosophy class, but I liked that. He also really cares.

He cool. He just wants you to connect to the stories and poems.

He can spend a week on one page of Shakespeare and almost make it interesting. He's always checking your vocabulary.

Great class, but don't be late and don't even think about missing.

Yeah, this whole being late and absent is a problem with Katz. AT first he comes across as a jerk but he bends his own rules if you talk to him and explain yourself. What you should know is that he can be controversial and some people don't like that. But he gets you to think and question authority.

Brian Katz, he was the most AMAZING professor I had. The class isn't easy if you dont force yourself to think. He change the way I think, and helped me to become a better writer. He make the class more interesting with an artistic twist, which keep the student engaged.

He's amazing. The very first day of class I questioned whether or not I was going to be able to make it through but I'm so glad I decided to stay. There's A LOT of work to be done but he's so flexible. As long as you're on time and in class everyday he's willing to help you as much as possible.

If you don't like hip hop don't take his class. He focuses on music and social issues the whole semester. If that's your thing then you will have a great time.

He helped me to explore my talent further within English, and has motivated me to pick up a dual Major within it. Best professor in KBCC hands down!

Prof. Katz is one of the coolest professors at kbcc. He assigns 3 papers & gives you more than enough time to do them. His lessons are fun, entertaining & he's not afraid to voice his opinion. The entirety of the semester consisted of talking about hip hop and it was awesome. Take him! You won't regret it! Show up, do the papers and participate! :)

Like other professors, there is no tolerance for lateness. Beside that, he gives everyone an easy A and at the same time the his class was fun. We covered a lot of Hip Hop culture and there were only three essays and one presentation.

The last reviewer has a valid review in regards to lateness. But Katz is not at all an easy A. I went through six drafts of my second paper to meet my own standards. I was exhausted. And the focus, at times, can be exhausting. The whole semester was spent on rap music and I'm not the biggest fan. But he's devoted to the students.

Don't be fooled. You will fail if you don't show up, be on time, and participate. Those who do get A's but everyone else is screwed.

He's a great professor. I would definitely take another class with him. If you having trouble with a any topic or don't understand he will help you out. After a semester of constant communication I reached out to him for a letter of recommendation and he was than willing to help me out. I did well in his class too but I was always late :(

Overall, Mr. Katz is a great professor! He has a very clear way of teaching, and he's always there when you need help. I would definitely recommend him!

Rap and racism are the themes of his class. He tries hard to work with different opinions, but can be angered by those who don't see the issues as his liberal views see them. This isn't a criticism, just an observation. Has no tolerance for bigotry. Uses great textbooks! Essays can be extreme. Requires many sources.

You and he will get along if you do everything you are supposed to do. Make sure you hand in all your papers on time and do all the reading assignments. Participation is key and attendance is mandatory. In regards to papers, he likes 12 sources for every essay, regardless of what he says in the start of the essay.

Brian Katz is absolutely amazing. You wont regret taking this course at all or even any of his classes. Hes one of the first teachers that I encountered that actually knew how to teach and go with the flow even in the classroom. Your voice and your opinions are EXTREMELY important to him, so just expect to be participating alot.

After the first day you may think he's strict but that's just an act. He really wants students to be responsible and he becomes a softy by the second class. Doing well on essays matters as much to him as it does to you.

Taking his creative writing class right now and he makes me want to be a writer. It is a lot of work in a short period of time but I'm learning more than I learned in any other English course. I expect an A because I am doing all of the work.

I loved taking this class! I would reccomend to everyone that you take creative writing classes at Kingsborough. This class was one of the best experience I've ever had in college. It helps you express yourself through writing and understand others.

This class went beyond just creative writing. The professor made it 100 times better, we spoke about religion, culture, politics, and so much more that just really opened your eyes about life. This class was deff free writing and a stress reliever and even though I'm not an English major I would deff take this class over with Brian. Best class

This was a creative writing class. I would highly recommend this class as well as the professor. He is encouraging, and pushes students to do well. This was a workshop situation. You must write daily, revise, and participate fully. Prof. Katz is the gold standard for this type of intensive, creative, student-centered course. It's a fun course.

Rap, rap, rap and more rap. If you not into music,don't take his class. He will spend the whole semester having you write about rap culture.

Intro to Creative Writing should be a required course. Brian (he doesn't like to be called by his last name or professor) really helps you to become a better writer with his projects. I really recommend this class to students who have any interest in creative writing.

Easily the greatest professor I've had and probably will ever have. The man makes you feel good about yourself, and is the most inspirational, charismatic and sophisticated professor currently teaching at kingsborough. He made me want to be a professor more than I already wanted. I strongly recommend this professor to everyone.

Brian Katz was an incredible professor for me when I went to Kingsborough. We did some free writing about out short fiction stories. We even worked on our short stories for the class. We discussed our stories and worked closely with him. He had helpful feedback and liked our work. Whoever's taking him, I hope you enjoy his teaching as much as I did

Intro to creative writing is probably the most important class I've taken at KCC. Katz makes me want to be a writer. I love him.

Dr. Katz is extremely inspirational and I will never forget him because of the way he speaks so accurately on subjects and expresses what he is thinking. Honestly he is one of those people who just leave a mark on you. He taught me to speak on topics passionately by being empathetic which opened up my mind to look at things from many perspectives.

My Creative Writing class has too many students in it but Katz makes it work. All writing is submitted online and students are encouraged to respond on discussion boards. It doesnt always work out. Still, I love the teacher. He tries to not be political but he cant help hiding dislike of Trump and his anger at poor institutional values.

If you don't like to talk about music culture don't take his class. But if you love music, movies, tv, and other arts, he's a walking time capsule. Love him!

I started college in 09 and Im about to graduate with my bachelors. Katz was my very first professor and the best professor Ive ever had. Hes the most woke white guy Ive ever met. Take his class and hell try to wake you up too. We need more people like him.

Yeah Brian woke but hes also crazy about music and the message and flipping the power structure. I did more writing in his class than I ever did before and I loved it.

Great professor. I took him for Eng 24. All we did was just 2 papers and 3 very easy speeches. Before the speeches he said just by doing it you will take A, which was pretty relieving. Everybody did very good and got A's for the speeches. Same for the papers as well, he was EXTREMELY GENEROUS. Take him, don't miss classes, do your work, easy A.

Such an amazing professor. I took him for English 24 and he was very nice. We learned about stuff that was actually interesting such as music and movies. Some papers and presentations but the first one you get an A! He is so generous and will help you inside and outside of class with any papers. just show up and do your work. DEFINITELY WOULD TAKE

The BEST professor ever, you dont feel that youre taking English class. The topics are not boring and he make the class entertaining. You know those times you don't want to go to English class because it's so boring you'll never have that with Brian.

He is an incredible professor. Each week he tells you exactly what work needs to be completed and gives you a full week to complete everything. Assignments are designed to make you learn instead of doing busy work. He gives you really good feedback and grades fairly. If you complete the assignments you should have a very high grade.

I had a Prof. from hell last semester & had to withdraw from ENG 24. I took it over this semester with Prof. Katz HE IS THE BEST. Makes the work fun and easy not hard at all. Do what he says and you'll be fine. He is also so caring & understanding. If you are taking ENG 24 DEF. TAKE HIM :)

Professor Katz was the greatest teacher I have ever had. His assignments were incredibly fun. He doesn’t tear apart your work, he helps you improve it. He help you work to your true potential while learning about yourself through his assignments. His class was easily the best that i’ve had. I would take him again in a heartbeat!

I have always dreaded English classes but Brian has changed my mind about that. The writing assignments he gives you are fun, relatable, and improve your writing. I found it easier to write outlines and communicate my ideas after taking his class. Take his class, you wont regret it!!

I've taken 3 online courses with Brian and they were all amazing. His classes are asynchronous with weekly assignments. He spends a lot of time reviewing your writing and being available to talk on the phone. I really, really appreciate him.

Professor Katz had a very straightforward curriculum. We have a few assignments per week, all together the homework very rarely exceeds one hour total per week with all of the assignments. He grades and critiques assignments using voice recordings which is very helpful and personalized. He's great!

I took ENG2400 & ENG6000 with Katz. Get ready to read and write a good amount for comp. But he is a super fair grader, very kind, helpful and supportive. I loved both classes I took with him, and if I could I would take another! He's the best.

I took ENG 6000, Screenwriting, with Professor Katz. It was a straightforward class. I wish we had more scripts to write though. There were also assignments based on his interviews with writers, actors, and directors. Professor Katz does not like meeting in person. I did not prefer other forms of engagement that he was offering. You can take him!

If you want an A, do the work. Katz is a cheerleader but you are the one playing the game. He is kind and focused on your success.
