very helpful and a great guy, I benefited from having him
Very nice, helpful, treats students with respect.
He is so scattered brained and half the time you can't make heads or tails of what is going on in his notes. I do not recommend taking him unless you can understand indirect and unclear professors.
Good prof. doesn't post notes for lecture until an hour before class. Pretty clear and makes things easy to understand. Wants students to learn the information.
better teacher one on one then in class- a little difficult to understand- tests are pretty difficult
Good Prof. he is very helpful 1 on 1. Tests are kind of tricky, you have to study! Expectations for lab reports are like writing for the president, every word and sentence has to be perfect!
Very helpful and willing to devote time to students. He's a great professor. And funny too!
He's very good at keeping your attention. Not boring and had a sense of humor. Tests are not too bad as long as you go over your notes.
Very hard class for only one credit. Fun lab but the reports kill you and the test and quizzes aren't the easiest either; but a very nice guy and he keeps it entertaining.
Very nice lectures, you learn a lot. Tests are very difficult, you can't just cram before the exam. You must know how to apply the information. Fun class though!
Kipp is a nice guy, but a HORRIBLE instructor! Half the time he misspeaks himself and gives out incorrect info. He knows his stuff but is COMPLETELY unable to communicate that info to the student. Exams have relatively nothing to do with the notes!
Professor Kipp is a very straighforward prof. His exams are right from the notes; and he's good at keeping your attention.
Good teacher, this class was easy, just study notes a couple hours before the test, DONT buy the book, I never opened it and got an A
This lab sucks just to warn you, so much work for 1 credit. Kipp is a very nice and helpful prof. to have though.
The best prof I have ever had! He is funny and keeps your interest and is great at making sure you understand the info. I am definately taking him again. Study notes and you will do fine!
Dr. Kipp is a great guy to have for this lab. His explanations are always clear, and he makes his guidelines for lab reports very clear as well. His pre-lab lectures never take too long and he seems genuinely interested in students' progress. Got an A!
Remember as much as possible all details. Don't wait to study right before exam.
Dr. Kipp is awesome as a lab instructor! He explains everything clearly and in a concise manner, and he's a funny, nice guy that makes having to be there at 2 o'clock on a Friday afternoon bearable.
Dr. Kipp is awesome! He's such a nice guy. Lectures are fun, and very informative. Pathophys is super cool. the exams are difficult, but if you keep up with studying, they're not so bad. watch out fot that kidney section though, it's a killer. =)
He is completely unfair with his students. He doesn't care about his students at all. He tests over mundane details. Dont take him!
Dr. Kipp is great! Very nice and his lectures are in plain english. A word of warning though - he only gives out 4 tests, and that is your grade - no homework, no extra credit, no curve so be sure to study and pay close attention to his slides - any detail can be on the test. Posts grades quickly
Great Prof. You will EARN your grade. Take notes and STUDY what he tells you, and you'll be fine. Won't hand you an "A"
Great lab and great professor! He is not a push over, but he is willing to help you to understand the material. He is a great lecturer, he uses understandable English in his lectures. I am looking forward to taking a coarse with him again.
Very nice, helpful, and fair prof. Tests are kinda hard, but not to bad.
I loved going to Patho until the last two weeks of class. Dr. Kipp was clear, and his tests hard but fair. For the last exam, though, he went bonkers, assigning us way too much and jumping all over the place.
Tests can be difficult. DONT GET BEHIND! If you keep up with studying and the work, you can do well. You don't really need the book, he makes a note pack for the class. Nice guy, interesting lectures.
A sincerely kind and helpful prof. Willing to help students out and change things around (such as test dates). Made class interesting. Tests are MC and not too hard at all. I could've done better in this class if I wasn't so concentrated on Nutrition w/ Nizielski!
hated physiology w/ diff prof, loved pathophys with kipp! he is very straightforward and knowledgable. Not an easy class, but kipp was great for it.
Great lecturer.Could use some organizational skills.Book was virtually useless except for diagrams.Jumps all over on topics.Hard to follow and make sense of the big picture.Be prepared to do lots of background research on your own to be prepared for exams.Would like to see better flow to class.Lectures were enjoyable.Exams were very tough.
Professor Kipp is such a great guy. Always willing to help, and such a hunk!
Dr. Kipp was a good lecturer although he tended to go at a really fast pace. I hated his exams. They tended to test over little details that were not covered in lecture or in the text. Also, the info stressed in class barely showed up on exams. He also was kind of moody.
Beware of exams...doesn't matter how much you study! Doesn't respond to emails. But listens to your arguments over questions on test - possible to raise grade this way.
He was TERRIBLE! never available, unclear and his test were difficult.
He basically just reads off the notes, then asks questions on the exam about things we never talked about. He makes it impossible to want to come to class.
I had Kipp for both BMS 290 and 310. He's a real nice guy, always willing to help. If you study his note pack then his tests are a piece of cake. With that said you dont really need to buy the book unless you wish to have it as a reference.
Prof. Kipp has a lot of interesting things to say and although he does just read off the lecture notes that he sends to you, all the questions on the tests come straight out of the lecture. And he answers ANY questions asked in class. Great prof. I would take him again in a heartbeat ;)
Professor Kipp was a nice guy, funny, and answered any questions you ask in class. However, he just reads off the lecture notes that he posts on Blackboard, so you really don't have to go to class. It would have been better if he did something interactive with the lecture notes because you can just read them yourself and do fine on the test.
very helpful
Nice, funny guy. Made the class interesting. He tries to scare you on the first day by saying its hard. The first few exams were easy but after midterms start studying because for some reason they get harder. With such a large class, he doesn't take attendance but it tends to hurt you if you don't go to class. Good guy. Take him. Make sure to read!
He is not a good lab teacher. His tests are kinda hard and you have to go to class. During lecture, he will answer pointless questions and you won't get thru everything. its kinda annoying. He is the worst lab professor so don't take him. His lecture is pretty intresting but he just reads from the powerpoint.
Well, 290 is just hard, but Kipp makes it easy to understand. His notebook helps with study, but reading the book is pretty much essential! He's very good at explaining concepts, but his office hours were always packed with people. Overall great prof for this class!
Very nice, but WORST Prof ever. He uses old lecture slides that don't correspond with the reading. He only gives 3 exams and no extra credit, and he doesn't curve. He talks at the speed of light and expects you to be able to write just as fast. Please DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
This class wasn't my favorite, but I found it interesting. Dr kipp is good lecturer and has a great sense of humor. You do have to study. Wouldn't buy the book, note pack a must!
Great prof for capstone--only have to come to class a few times all semester, which is great if your class is at 8:30am! Only have to write one 20 page paper all semester. He's pretty helpful with comments and helping you make it good. Pretty much everyone in my class got an A! Take him for 495!
Really good prof for this lab.he expects you to pay attention and can get a little bit like a 4th grade teacher if you don't. Will help and not make you feel stupid for asking, which counts for a lot.
Kipp was extremely slow in grading and returning assignments, you do not know your grade before your final and sometimes you wait upto 4 weeks for a grade back. He is very condescending when you ask for clarification and often presents a "holier than though" attitude. Not super hard class but pick another prof if you can.
Well, the class was difficult, plain and simple. Then again, I'm an English major taking a course in probably the hardest field at GVSU, and science is not my best subject. Kipp really knows what he's talking about. I went to lecture everyday and studied at like 6-7 hours for every exam and ended up with a B- in the class. I'm usually an A student.
I didn't do quite as well as I wanted to, but that had nothing to do with Kipp. His tests are very hard though.. This class is not easy!! He is a good professor and is always willing to help if you come to his office hours or shoot him an e-mail.
Really tough exams, and speaks too quickly. His exams tend to be over mundane details, not general concepts. Plan to study at least 3 hours a day to pass his exams.
Really nice guy but lousy professor. Didn't lecture anything useful and you basically need to teach yourself by using the book. Notes were simply PowerPoints of textbook pictures. Exams were ok, but never really taught material on it. However, he is SUPER nice during office hours and cares about his students but he just isn't the best lecturer.
He is moody. It is near impossible to get an A in his class. He is nice, but the exam materials are totally different from what he covers in class. I do not recommend taking a class with this guy.
Prof. Kipp is a nice guy... It is really easy to relate with him. The only downside would be his exams. Some of the question/ answer choices are awkward at best. There is a stiff grading scale but it isn't impossible to get an A. I'm not upset I had him for class, the lectures are pretty enjoyable and he has a good sense of humor.
If your looking for a stand out proffesor than Kipp is not your guy. The way he words his exams are terrible which make it extremely hard for any student to get an A. Don't count on him putting up class average's or saying ONE word about the exam to the class. Also, when asking a question don't expect a good answer. Extremely dissatisfied!
Terrible lab prof. Never grades quizzes until the midterm or final practical. Not a bad lecture prof, smart but arrogant. YOU MUST READ THE BOOK IF YOU WANT TO DO SEMI WELL IN CLASS! His exams are difficult to say the least. Confusing wording or two answers could be the right one. I studied 30+ hours for his exams and only got 1 A out of 4 exams.
His tests are so hard and I never felt prepared for it because he didn't make it very clear what should be studied for. However I really liked him as a lab professor.
If you want an A in this class do not take Kipp!! I am normally an A student and got a B- in this class. I would study 30+ hours for his tests and stil did not do well! His tests are wordy, and things he would emphasize in lecture seemed to rarely show up on tests. He is also very intimidating to talk to and makes you feel dumb. Don't take him!!
I know that a lot of people have a tendency to bad mouth DR Kipp (emphasis on DR), but I will tell you that I honestly enjoyed his class. His teaching method is straight forward. Everything that he teaches falls in line and nicely to complement the book. Dr. Kipp was also my professor for the second set of A&P and both labs
Dr. Kipp is far from intimidating. The problem is people don't necessarily appreciate the grades they receive which determines how much they like a prof. I had him for 3 courses and received A's all the way. He is very helpful...just ask him!
He is rather intimidating from a far and makes you not want to visit him during office hours. His tests are hard and tricky. Some of the questions are no where to be found. The textbook was useless, the slides were like the book and there were no pictures in the book which is very helpful. He is strict in lecture. Try someone else, but not awful
He's a hard tester, but if you go to office hours he really wants to help you understand the information, and to help you succeed. Reading the books helps a ton. He's a good prof.
Honestly, attendance was not necessary. Exam quetions were essentially right from the power points - and if that isn't clear enough, he makes those directly from the book. I definitely suggest him for 202!
Not one of my favorite proffessors, No way of really getting around taking him for 251. He's ok. Definitely a little unorganized and scattered. Tests weren't really hard but studying the powerpoints is the way to go.
Super nice. genuinely is there to help you and assist you in learning the material! i really enjoyed going to his lectures! very nice!
He is an awesome teacher! He gives great examples that makes it easier to remember material during exams! Do the online review and homework and you will be fine. Pay attention in lecture, ask questions. Very nice guy and a great professor! Always willing to help you understand, he answers every question asked very well.
I really liked this professor. He gave tons of examples and was for the most part entertaining. His tests arent that bad and i have only read the book a few times. He is also very funny. I would take him again if i could!
This Professor was very hard, and often the material on the tests did not reflect what the chapters in the book were about. Put my life into this class and still failed (in my perspective). If you have to take him, print off powerpoint slides for every lecture...that is what will save you! Oh, and write down all his personal stories etc. Have fun!
He is very helpful and answers questions very thoroughly. Alot of online hw but its really easy and helps your grade. tests are HARD. need to study book and notes extensively. He also teaches with a different style were he asks the class to explain things and he adds no. no real lecture or notes are given from him. takes alot of time to do well.
Pathophysiology is by no means a walk in the park, but professor Kipp doesn't grind you on the insanely hard concepts. His learning objectives are very open-ended and when you are going them, you will wonder what level of detail is required. But, the exams are almost always simplified versions. Some minor details will need to be memorized though.
Did not like his teaching style. He used the flipped-classroom method, and it was very unbeneficial and I did not learn anything. We were able to use our notes we took in class on the exams, but there was always information and small details that he cover. It was a tough class and a ton of work for not really learning the material.
He has an interesting style of teaching and you'll either love it or hate it. Students are expected to do course objectives and explain them to the class while he occassionally lectures if the topic is complex. We were allowed to use our notes on tests, but doesn't help as much as you would think. He is really good for the lab section!
He's not a horrible prof, but if your took Kozal for 250 and liked it I can almost promise you will hate his teaching style. His tests are very difficult. I got an A in anatomy with Kozal and am struggling to keep above a B. To me his style was totally pointless. I wouldn't recommend if you like a teacher that actually teaches
The way he does lectures the students "teach"... more like student read the text book verbatim. You get to use your notes on exams however, they don't help because he makes the exams so difficult. Everyone does poorly on his exams so he curves the grades at the end of the semester really high. I got a 75%, 68%, 93%, 92 (final) and I finished at a A
You get to use your notes on exams, which is nice, but he makes them harder. Also, you get called on to present objectives in front of the class (you don't know when it's happening) so you have to go to class or you loose participation points if you don't present. He's pretty cool though, and he knows his stuff, and he's funny, which is nice.
He is an incredible professor who completely cares for each of his students. He is very great with being lenient towards your schedule and your grade. His lab reports are straight forward and he will help you with every one. I got 100% on every report.
Prof Kipp was WONDERFUL. Took him spring semester and he was very helpful and passionate about the subject. The book is absolutely essential, but totally worth it. He has you teach the class first, then he will clarify the material. His goal is for you to understand and pass the class. Also a really great guy, had lots of good stories to tell.
After returning back to college after many years prof Kipp was respectful, knowledgable, patient but held you accountable and I walked away a better student and ready to take on the rest of my college career
Professor Kipp taught my class from a "flipped" perspective. In other words we were expected to come to class prepared with notes in which we would cover that day. However, the lectures turned into students going to the board and regurgitating what we had all read in the textbook. There was a lot of outside class work required for this class.
Students expected to come to class with a list of objectives complete. Kipp then assigns 10-12 people to explain to the entire lecture hall, one at a time, about a specific objective. Works great for some people, however many did not learn from it. Absolutely no powerpoints to study from. Although his exams are difficult, he lets you use notes.
Unlike most phys lab professors, he gives you skeleton outlines for lab reports, which makes them SO much easier. He explains material very well in lab, is always willing to help, and makes physiology lab enjoyable. I recommend him to everyone!
Don't take 291 with anyone except Kipp. He is super nice and very helpful. He gives templates for the lab reports and allows you to turn them in as a group. Super lenient grader. All around great guy.
Kipp usually does a different style of teaching, but this semester he used the traditional lecture with pp slides. He has a ton of cool stories and is very knowledgable about A &P His test are tough, but fair. It really helps if you read the book as well as pp slides. He also uses connect assignments which are annoying but boost your grade a lot!
Okay I was in the "teach the class" class and tbh I wasn't fond of it. I just felt like I was teaching myself the whole time verbatim from the book. This class stressed me out so much because his exams were so detailed at times & no matter how much I studied I didn't do as good as I hoped. HOWEVER at the end of the class he curves your grade a tad
I really liked this prof's style of teaching. By forcing us to get into groups and answer questions on the board every day, I not only learned the material better but I also got a cool group to study with. He made lectures interesting and gave relevant and funny examples to the topics we discussed, which was super cool.
You have to create your own lectures. He doesn't teach the material himself.
He gives you learning objectives and you use your book to answer the questions BEFORE classes. He then randomly chooses people to present each objective in front of the class. Only had to present twice the whole semester. Exams aren't easy, but you can use your notes. Overall this is a low stress class.
He learning objectives to answer the questions before the next classes, using the textbook. Then you randomly present each objective in front of the class. It's only a couple minutes, not really a presentation then he elaborates with examples. Exams aren't easy, but you can use your notes. Credit/No credit homework through the book website as well.
He gives broad learning objectives of what the test will be over. Hand written notes from the book may be used on the multiple choice exams in class. Even with notes, it's tough to get an A on the exams and I spent 15+ hours each week writing notes. 1 paper required but not difficult. I believe he may have curved our final grades a touch. (A- to A)
Dr. Kipp teaches a "flipped class", meaning you have to read and take notes on the chapter and have it prepared before class. Then in class you "present" an objective (read what notes you took) and then Dr. Kipp emphasizes important things and fills in anything you may have missed. Interesting lectures, exam aren't terrible just study.
Professor Kipp is not a good option for this class. I have never spent so much time out of class time on one class. You have to read the book and take your own notes, and then he picks random names to present your notes to the class. So basically he doesn't do much. Tests are open-note, but so specific even if you copy the book in your notes.
If you prefer teaching yourself the material for a class that is actually necessary to your major.... take this professor! I would pick someone else, personally. Lectures are important to go to, yet you find yourself wondering why you even go. Test questions are sometimes worded unfairly. He took forever in responding to my emails. Pass.
You get to use notes for each exam you take but you have to have your notes prepared for the class and he randomly chooses names to present. Attendance is not mandatory but if your name is called for that day, he puts a "sad face" next to your name which means he will not help your grade if you are a border line A or B. I recommend him 100%
Kipp would assign objectives to do outside of class, then call students up to present about them (aka he doesn't lecture and you teach yourself). You can use notes on exams, but sometimes they don't help and he tests over material you don't cover. Also he didn't print out enough final exams so half the class had to wait 20 mins for their exam
In this class, you read the book and answer questions outside of class (very timely) and in class he randomly calls peoples' names to present them each day for semi-credit. I found that notes on the exam did not help. The exams covered advanced concepts. I prefer a more traditional style lecture. Very helpful in office hours.
Great prof overall. Gives lots of practical examples of concepts and explains things well. Is also very approachable and down to earth in office hours. You spend a ton of time outside of class writing out learning objectives from the textbook (about 4-8hrs/week) but you get to use those notes on the exams. Come to class prepared!
It's hard to talk about Kipp because he doesn't really teach you, it's a flipped classroom. You do all the learning objectives outside of the class and then each lecture he randomly selects people to present the objectives to the class. You get to use handwritten notes on the exams, but I found that they don't really help you much at all.
There was a lot of work to be done outside of class, but the amount of time it added up to with lecture made you learn the material. Notes that you wrote were allowed on tests too which is amazing because they can be difficult. Though a bit intimidating at first, Dr. Kipp is a great professor that is very understanding and I'll miss having him.
This class is a class that is led completely by students, Dr. Kipp will add in information to what the student has to say on the topic but wont do much other than that. Also the learning objectives that you have to complete for this class will take more time than you think.
You take your own notes and then he picks certain people to present their notes. Its easy extra points, doesn't bring your grade down if you don't go (it's only for an extra boost at the end of the semester). You can use notes on exams and homework on Connect is easy points too. He's very sweet and understanding, just come to class and try.
Before every lecture you need to have your notes done and you randomly get called up to present part of your notes. It's very casual but his teaching style makes you feel like you're teaching yourself all of the info. My lecture was always so behind which made lab very hard because we were always learning separate topics.
Brian is an amazing professor. The students teach about half the class, you are expected to have read ahead and able to present on topics, however in doing this you get to use your notes on the exams. That sounds awesome but his exams are no joke, I found myself getting worse grades than other classes regardless of my notes. Awesome guy though!
Kipp lets you use notes on exams, but it isn't as helpful as you'd think. He provides learning objectives for each chapter and says that is the material you will be tested on, but tests include lots of info that is not in objectives or covered in class. Tests are very difficult and there aren't many other grades to make up for that.
If you want to do all your learning outside of class, this is the prof for you! If you want to do a min of 3 hours of homework for every lecture, take Kipp! Seriously you have to work for your grade in this class. Lectures are students presenting information, so pretty pointless. 1 positive is you get to use your notes on exams, but they're hard.
Gives learning objectives for students to take notes on based on the book, which is HUGE and EXPENSIVE. The text is incredibly dense, making it hard to take notes before hand without writing down every single thing. Some test questions are broad, while others are incredibly specific things not discussed in class. Hint: he uses the book's test bank
Students teach the class with the objectives from the book. He doesn't do much other than make sure you're there to present your objective and input grades. You basically teach yourself everything. You get to use notes on the exam so make sure they're extra good because exams are often difficult. 4 exams, 1 final, and connect homework for each chp
Honestly, I NEVER went to class and I got an A on every exam. You get to use your notes on the exam so just take good notes and you will totally be fine. He says he puts a "frowny face" next to your name if you are chosen to present and you aren't there but it didn't affect my grade. I finished with a 97 %, I didn't learn anything but an easy A.
I enjoyed Brian's class although it was tough; we were expected to teach the material to ourselves beforehand so we could go more in depth in class. I didn't find the tests too difficult. We got to use handwritten notes. As long as you understand the main concepts of the chapter, you can do pretty well on the tests. Overall would recommend!
Yes, there is a lot of reading and note-taking, but it is worth it because you can use the notes on the exams. Going to class is also important but really helpful. For a hard class like anatomy, the way he sets up class is super nice. I would recommend for both 250 and 251.
Kipp's class was definitely a flipped classroom. Lots of outside work and then he covered the material in class to make sure everyone was on the same page. I was only called on once all year, not bad. Having the learning objectives done is important to hear what he adds on but then you use it on the test! I learned his exams after C+, then all A's.
Dr Kipp was a super nice guy! Very knowledgeable and I really enjoyed his class. He lets you use notes on all exams so make sure you write notes from the book. Participation matters! He will give you extra credit if you volunteer your answers. His lectures are based on objectives from book. Lots of hw. Overall good prof.
Best anatomy Prof I've had. He allows you to use your notes on exams which helps tremendously. As long as you do the objectives and put in the work you will do great in the class.
Hes a really good professor I like the way he teaches doesnt have a lot of writing in powerpoints more verbal. He lets you use hand written notes on all exams, tests were average I didnt find them too hard. A lot of work on learing objectives but they help.
I did not like Kipp AT ALL! You have to take all of your notes outside of class which led to 2+ hours of note taking before each class. Im honestly not sure how he got such high reviews because he is an awful professor that does not even teach the class, the students do. If you want to actually learn the material, DO NOT TAKE KIPP
If you put in the work, write diligently, and follow directions exactly, you should get an A.
Dr. Kipp is a really good guy who when he does lecture he gives really good real life examples to help you understand. You get to use your notes on exams, so truthfully I never studied and did just find even with COVID. He is very understanding and kind. Records everything to watch if you missed. Learning targets are clear and helpful. Pretty chill
He's a good prof who explains the topics well. He expects you to write the notes for his outlined learning objectives before coming to class, which honestly helps you understand more in lecture and participate actively with what he's explaining. He is very accessible outside of class and always willing to explain in more detail.
In person lectures were great but when classes moved online, my grade dropped. He wasn't consistent with when he would upload recorded lectures and presented material very fast, uploading them late and monotone. Let you use notes on exams but was very inconsistent with answering emails. Will never reply unless email is sent during his office hours.
Knows the content and material, however, has no clue on how to give students exams. It's a guessing game on what you think will be on the exam. He is relatively lazy when answering emails and providing feedback. In addition, he cancelled 4 class sessions in a semester where it was one class a week. Find another professor who can teach.
Long lectures with no pauses that were all prerecorded so no chance to ask questions. Told in the first week that as long as we study the learning objectives we'd be fine. That was a lie. His exam questions were all taken from old quizlets and BARELY had anything to do with what he taught or the L.O.s. Only chance is to read the entire book.
Pathophys with Prof Kipp was alright. He allows you to use your notes on exams even though they are lockdown browser (thanks to a few cheating students at the beginning of the semester). My advice would be take very in depth notes, and read the objectives to see what he didn't cover in class.
He tells you to just study the learning objectives and you will be fine. That is 100% NOT the case. The exams are randomly selected quizlet questions that more often than not have content you will have never seen before. He often doesn't respond to email and barely communicates with students.
Kipp is a great professor in the aspect of the material he teaches, his exams however are not what he teaches. As most people on here say Dr. Kipp says to study the learning objectives and that is all that will be needed to succeed in his class, I can say for certain that this is not the case. Only way to ace this class is to memorize the book.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. His class is 90% exam graded. I went to the board of BMS to get him under review. Do not do the learning objectives just listen to what he talks about and memorize every gd word he says. Do not take him unless it is your only option and you cannot take it a different semester. he barely curves.
I had Kipp for online lab and he wasnt bad at all. The only thing that annoyed me was that he posted labs late quite often. He was a pretty average professor, so I dont have much bad or much good to say about him. Lab quizzes were open note but lab midterm and final are lockdown and recorded.
Kipp was a good professor. Exams are 90% of the grade but he allows cheat sheets on lockdown. Take detailed notes during lectures; I watched his recorded lectures and wrote down everything he said. Accessible and will go over exams. Final was not cumulative. I only used the book for 3 homework assignments. Everything he tests on he covers in class.
Worst prof and class ever. 90% exam which were close to impossible, he can't even spell correctly. Teaches as if he is showing off his knowledge and goes very fast. Exams were very unfair, they were on lockdown and cheat sheets never helped even though I have spent so many hours on them and my notes. Doesn't reply to emails. DO NOT TAKE HIM !!!!!!!
Worst prof at gvsu. I spent a ridiculous amount of time studying for this class and let me tell YOU it did not pay off. His exams have so many spelling errors and the questions literally make no sense because they are sentence fragments. Ive never had an issue with any prof till Kipp. Disappointed in gvsu for letting this man teach. Good luck!
The exams are most of the grades, but he allows you to use any hand written notes. If you pay attention in lecture, the exams are pretty straightforward. I never had any issues with him, and I enjoyed his lectures.
Great about using personal anecdotes to make material more understandable. I only used my textbook the first few weeks of the semester, it's not necessary to pass. Written notes allowed during exams which is super helpful! This class was easier than Micro because of him! He talks pretty fast but he records his lectures so you can always review.
Dr. Kipp made pathophysiology very enjoyable and his use of personal anecdotes in class were very helpful to understand the material. The learning objectives gave you a large understanding of the material and the lectures coincide with it.
Your grade is literally 90% exams. 10% is a million little post lecture quizzes he makes you do but they barely matter for overall grade. Final is not cumulative but the exams are super intense & important. You easily need to study for 10+ hours per test to get an "A". SUPER cool to listen to and talk with though so nothing against his personality.
Kipp definitely knows his stuff, but got confused & contradicted himself a lot. This class was a lot of work. My advice is to stay on top of the material, go to class, he posts lectures so rewatch those, do his objectives, & make sure at least have a grasp on the material. He is definitely willing to help you, but not the best at answering emails.
Final grades are 90% exams and 10% unhelpful homework assignments. If you cannot reliably get an A on every exam, you will not do well. Kipp is nice, but the class structure is not set up to allow students to succeed.
Grade is based on the exams. Ive had similar classes to this but never have I had a professor who makes the exams hard and adds things on it that he says not to worry about. He is nice but the grading criteria is not fair especially because he rushes through lecture. He gives no curves neither, he genuinely does not care.
Be prepared to teach yourself most of the material. He basically just lectures at you for the entire class period and never does anything different in class. He goes really fast and it's easy to fall behind. There was very few things in the gradebook, so if you do bad on one exam you're kind of screwed. His exams aren't awful, but could be better.
If you struggle with exams like myself, dont take him. Classes are only lectures. He does not send out notes if you missed classes, and doesn't let you have a phone in class. Grades were 90% exams, and 10% hwk, with no extra credit opportunities because he "doesn't believe in EC". He seems like a nice guy but I did not enjoy how he runs his class.
Kipp is a good professor and very intelligent. His lectures were long and boring but he is very helpful in drawing things out when bigger ideas were being taught. When possible, he made real world connections and examples that helped. There are some days he flies through lectures and some days he takes 5 min per slide. Never an in between.
very nice guy, wants you to understand. hard material and exams but if you study/do the hw and reading it is not too bad! Lecture presentations posted online, nice if you have to miss a class
I absolutely loved Dr.Kipp. I took him for BMS 250 and 251, and he was amazing. He tells hilarious stories that correspond with the material and he always tries to incorporate things that are clinically relevant. I laughed in every lecture. His learning objectives are fair, and his lectures are based off all his objectives which are on the slides
Kipp wasn't the best and wasn't the worst. His exams are insanely difficult as he pulls questions word for word out of the textbook. Weekly homework assignments are pretty easy, lectures are him reading from his slideshow with minimal extra information and clarity. I typically do well in classes like this, but struggled a lot with Kipp as my prof.
Dr. Kipp was amazing. He always kept the class entertained during lectures with all of his stories about the topics we were learning. He is always willing to help and explain things differently if needed. The expectations were clear and if you do the work and study you will pass. Dr. Kipp was a great professor and I definitely recommend him!
prof. kipp is super easy to follow, i actually enjoyed attending lectures. no quizzes which was sooo nice and we got one full sheet of free notes on every exam including the final. that being said, the only things i the gradebook is tests and homework. take the time to READ THE BOOK its how i passed all my tests!
All these reviews say to read the book, but I never did all semester and still did good on exams! He lets you have 1 sheet of paper (front/back) to use on the exams, which is super helpful! The exams were about 50 multiple choice questions. I definitely recommend getting with a study group for exams, overall a good professor!!
Brian deserves a much higher rating than where he is at. Ways to succeed in his class are simple. Show up to lecture, take detailed notes (his exams are straight from the notes he says), go to office hours to have him explain. He wants to help you and he does a great job at it. Also he gives a "cheat sheet" for every exam. TAKE HIM!
Professor Kipp runs a challenging class, but he's approachable and genuinely wants students to succeed. Attending lectures, taking detailed notes, and using resources like Unstuck AI for exam prep can help you thrive.
I liked Dr. Kipp as a professor. The lectures were tough as they are dense and full of a lot of information. Sometimes it seemed like he would rush through slides which would take away the opportunity to learn during some lectures. He is also attentive and willing to answer any questions.
Was not my favorite professor, lab never went the whole time, seemed rushed. Doesn't do much teaching during lab and doesn't even go through each page of the lab manual. Wouldn't recommend.
Lecture PPTs do not follow the book *he wants you to read AND take notes on. Lectures are often confusing and extremely hard to follow. Gives only five seconds for questions so he can rush through more lecture material instead of taking the time to explain it in a manner that can be grasped by a student who is first seeing the material. Do not take
I feel exhausted taking this class as I have to teach myself and spend hours reading the textbook to understand the material better. I would never take his class again. His PowerPoint is very short and mostly images with a few words.
This professor was a really nice guy, you can tell that he cares about what he teaches. However, 90% of your grade will be based on 4 exams so make sure you really understand the material. He talks fast during lectures to cram in as much information as possible instead of taking the time to truly explain it to students.
Lecture is extremely content heavy, except slides contain sparse notes that are primarily pictures or screenshots from the textbook that he simply circles or underlines while talking extremely fast. He does not like answering questions and will ignore you if your hand is up and move on. Your grade is basically decided entirely by your exams too.
horrible! Do not recommend at all. His class is graded 90/10 so the only thing that really matters is exams. Talks very fast during lectures, dances around any questions asked. He mostly just reads off the slides, but when he does write things down, they're practically illegible. He also gets upset when you ask him to clarify what the writing says.
Super funny guy. Class is very hard and is 90% exams, which makes it hard to bounce back if you don't do well on even one. Can be helpful with corrections, but I tried to go to office hours multiple times and he wasn't even there :(
Terrible professor....there was a week try not to teach anything but posted Khan academy video. The video is hardly related to the lecture, and he thinks everyone know physiology content before coming to class. The book literally has a picture of phagocytosis with food vacuole and the dude be like "this process does not make food vacuole"
Goes a little fast in lecture so it's hard to keep up sometimes, but is always happy to answer questions whenever you need. Grade is mostly on tests so be prepared to study hard for each.
Majority of your grade comes from a total of 4 multiple choice exams. If you miss a lecture, he will require you to get notes from a friend. He is overall a nice guy and he is understanding, just be prepared to put in the work if you want to do well.
I really enjoyed Dr. Kipps' class. He lets you have a handwritten full sheet of paper on every exam, and his slides were clear and organized! would take again :)
Pathophysiology is a hard subject in general so be prepared. That being said, his lecture notes are crammed with words and complicated pictures he pulled from google or the textbook. Majority of his lectures are just him circling things already written on the slides. Asks very weird questions on exams. 85% is exam based!
