Having my toenails pulled out would be better than sitting in his class.
Rambles on and on and on during class
No Comments
He is dreadful... take the other teacher at all costs... I work with computers for a living and I'm going to walk out with a C
He is a very hard teacher and he makes a 366 class seem like a 600 level.
You are going to work hard in his class, but you will learn alot, if you are willing to apply yourself. You must also have good time management skills in order to be successful in his class. If you pay attention in class, it is not a hard class.
pure torture!
Don't wait until the last moment to start or complete his assignments. Very willing to help students who stop by his office needing help.
Just didn't care for him.
Dont take this one TAKE Borth. Its not that this class is undoable but he is just sooo boring and his knowledge of computers beyond what he has read in textbooks is basically nonexistant. TAKE BORTH
No Comments
THREE THINGS TO NEED TO KNOW...1. TAKE BORTH....2.BORTH IS A GREAT TEACHER...3. TAKE BORTH!!!
Kovar's class is NOT easy. However, I learned lots in his class (my friends in the other section didn't learn anything). If you want easy, take the other guy. If you WANT TO LEARN SOMETHING and get your money's worth, then take Kovar.
horrible terrible tests
This class is difficult, but I learned a ton. His assignments take time but aren't that hard. If you apply yourself you can get a good grade. I was told it was impossible to get an A and I will get a high A.
in all my years of schooling, NEVER have i had someone as anal as kovar. overall, just an annoying, repetitive guy.
Never have I ever incountered a teacher who was as bad as this man. He thinks that his intro to managment class is the end all be all of education. and makes things a lot harder then they actually are.
He treats you like children, then is very picky when grading.
He's goofy and nitpicky, but he's not a bad teacher.
His tests sucked, his projects were tedious, and he was very nitpicky on the projects and lab quizes. He repeats the same things over and over again, and his class is incredibly boring!
repeats himself over and over and over
He is very picky about everything, and has tricky test questions. If you are into MIS stuff, and you pay attention in his class and do the work, you can get an A pretty easily. If you don't do the work, or don't pay attention in lectures, you don't have a chance. His class would be very difficult if you aren't interested in tech stuff.
He is VERY picky and has the terrible jokes. Don't take this class from him if there is someone else teaching it.
Kovar is the worst teach I have ever had! Another person said if you go to class and pay attention you will do well. Not the case at all. You have to know the custom text that he creates almost word for word. Due to the very confusing/complicated test question he ask. TAKE THE OTHER TEACHER THAT TEACHES THIS CLASS EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL YOU
His class is challenging, but you walk out learning a lot. To be successful in his class, you need to practice good time management skills and work ahead on assignments. When you encounter difficulties, then make sure that you are in his office getting help. If you don't want to be challenged or learn alot, then don't take this course.
This class has a huge work load. You end up learning a lot, even though it is really hard to sit through class. He likes to repeat himself over and over so he gets really annoying. It is possoble to get a good grade in the class but it takes a lot of time. Also, he curves the final grade at the end of the semester.
Mr. Kovar is a very hard-working professor and he expects his students to do the same through a significant number of projects, homework assignments, attendence points, and exams. This class is definately challenging and has a tough work load, but on the flip side you will learn a lot.
Good ol' B. Kovar... One of those teachers you just like to laugh at because he takes everything so seriously. But honestly, if you want to learn the material, take his class. If you have no interest and don't really care, take the course with Borth.
Arrogant and obnoxious apparently for the sake of his own ego.
Kovar is the single worst teacher I have ever had. His grading policies are nothing short of inane, 98% of the things you learn in his class are completely inapplicable to the real world, and his tests focus on legacy software. This man needs to be replaced, and quick. He is over-serious and self-important. I am sorry if you have to take this.
This teacher teaches a subject that is so easy it should not be taught in a university. He then makes the class difficult by acting like useless, stupid information and computer lingo from the '80s is important. He is also completely unreasonable when you ask for his help. Kovar is the worst teacher ever.
Students taking Mr. Kovar's class learn a lot if they are willing to apply themselves. He has high standards that everyone can meet, if they are willing to put forth the time and effort. He expects that we know what we are doing, and if someone is faking it, then it shows in their performance.
Sends a million e-mails a day, this is his life so if its not yours don't bother. he piles on tons of homework and reading prepare to stay home on weekends
hard hard hard hard. USE A CURVE
I had to work hard in his class. However, the topics he covered in class, especially the software topics, have been very useful to me in my current job. He definitely exposed me to topics I have never seen before, or used much. Now, those items are very valuable.
Kovars tests are ridiculous and he should definitily curve. His labs were a lot of work but very easy.
Never take a class from Kovar if you don't have to. He grades hard and there is no curve. Sitting through his class is like watch paint dry.
This class sucks utters (pay attention). I now work for a software company spend my life on a computer. If you don't like this class I recommend you look at changing majors. I wish I would have. My friend is a graphic designer and is happy at her job. DON'T CHICKEN OUT AND DO BUSINESS BECAUSE YOU THINK THERE ARE NO OTHER OPTIONS.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS FROM HIM! He is the worst instructor I have ever had in my college career. He makes you learn material that is trivial and irrelevant to almost anything! He makes you do tons of busy work that takes away from other classes that are of importance. He doesn't know when to stop talking!
Worthless. He takes a mandatory class which should be a show up and get an A class and turns it into a spend hours to try and get a C. No curve and grades alot harder than he should. If you need to take IT try and get a different Prof. you will instantly regret being in Kovars class.
Extremely easy if you read the book Great teacher
Easy class Rarely use the book or spend time outside of class if you are looking for an easy A this class is the one
his tests were really hard and it was a lot of work
Best teacheer I had at Kansas State. Easy A just go to to class he gives a lot of extra credit for attendence
I work with computers everyday, the class was horrible. If you like 80's technology take it; if not take the other professor.
takes up a ridiculous amount of time. but he is helpful if you ask him a question. it takes all the time away from other classes and the tests are very hard
Dont ever take a class from brian kovar. His tests are extremely difficult. The review for the final was over 10 pages long, and is a tiny font. He makes a simple class like Info Tech and makes it impossible. He calls you out if you mess up on an assignment or are late to class or have to leave in the middle, and then rants about it for 10 minutes
Horrible teacher! The work is not hard, it is just busy work. He requires way too many printouts that get expensive and assigned a project over the holiday break.
Kovar is hard to learn from.
He wastes all kinds of class time ranting about stupid things, not to mention telling you how to study for the tests almost every single day. He makes assignments and concepts way more difficult than they need to be and makes you do projects that require literally 20 to 30 print outs which add up to a lot of money and too much time.
He makes you work hard, but in the end, you should learn alot in his class. You can't do well in the class without regular attendance. Just reading the book is not good enough. You have to go to class. You need to have good time management skills, and if yours are lacking, his class will help you develop them.
Biggest Tool ever! This guy doesn't care about any of his students, all he cares about is being an ****. FYI you will use more than a few ink cartridges for his class
The first week of class all he talked about was how much of your life his stupid class is going to consume that semester. He speaks his opinions as if they are facts. Others are spot on. Prepare to spend lots of money on paper and ink cartridges and also prepare to learn nothing but outdated 80's technology.
He is the worst teacher I have ever had at KSU. He waste all your time on his class. His voice is annoying. His final was like taking the ACT all over again. Whatever you do, take the other teacher. This guy is the biggest tool you'll ever meet. I swear he has wet dreams about pivot tables.
His class is like taking two classes in one. The lecture it very boring and seems useless. The lab isn't as bad kind of easy it is what kept me from failing.
This guy is ridiculous! I do AWESOME on my projects, then when it comes time to fill out those stupid little bubbles on a test, you FAIL! I haven't received better than a 64 on a test and I have studied my life away. I will probably walk away with a D. Not to happy about that, I recommend taking it with Borth,or your GPA could possibly drop no joke
Absolutely horrible professor, K-State should replace him. The majority of the things you learn are irrelevant to life, but he takes it all soo seriously. Plan on being busy and having his projects take time away from your other courses. Also, have some extra cash ready for several ink cartridges and paper! He could care less about his students!
Mr. Kovar has been the epitomy of what I want from an instructor. He has "what can't be trained" as an employee. His eagerness to teach, preparation and expertise have made a lasting impression with me. I am very appreciative for the experience that I obtained by taking his course.
He takes this low level required business class way to seriously. You have to print way to many 10+ page assignments. His grading is hard to understand. On multiple page assignments, he would make them work 5 points then count off .1 or .01 for errors, never knowing how many points you could actually miss.
The class is easy and pretty straight forward, u learn how to use MSword, excel etc. I have never seeked help becos it seems unnecessary. It is all online, and u get practice exams with exact questions to prepare.
ABSOULTELY DO NOT TAKE A CLASS FROM HIM. One of the most counterintuitive teachers I've ever had. If you want constant frustration followed by a throbing migrane, than this is the teacher for you. Everymorning when I left his class angry. He is a day ruiner. He makes the class way harder than it ever should be. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!!!
I really like this class. The information portion is difficult but the projects are fun and if you sit down and work ahead not very time consuming. If you communicate with him, he'll help you out. He is really energetic, but I like him. Tough teachers make you learn.
This professor is horrible. He takes one of the most basic business classes and acts like it's the Olympics. Instead of trying to teach basics, he gives you pointless amounts of repetitive projects and pre-labs that are nothing similar to the tests he actually gives. He basically teaches this class with no reasonable expectations for his students.
makes class way harder than it has to be. Be prepared for 20 page print outs for projects that require 10 hours of hw a night. Tests are extremly detailed questions. dont take this class, if you have to take a different teacher, if its the only one that fits in your schedual change your schedual. it will be worth it.
This guy takes this class way to serious. DO NOT TAKE HIM. Turns an entry level class and makes it seem like everything that he teaches you will be the only thing you ever use. Gives you useless busy work for at home. Be prepared for printer and paper costs. Assigns 10 page print out assignments that are pointless and just waste time.
If you are truly a good student, you will be successful in his class. and learn alot. If you are a "faker" and just tryiing to get by, then his class is not for you.
I have learned a lot in his class. Yes, class may be time consuming, but you learn alot so it is worth it. Mr. Kovar is very thorough and very informative.I really enjoyed his class and everything that I learned will be applicable in my personal and professional future.
Shouldn't be teaching a class at K-State. We aren't paying thousands a semester for this guy to give us ridiculously long, useless excel projects that are specifically designed to confuse and frustrate. K-State should be monitoring this professor
Computer geek. Horrible jokes. Likes to ask trick questions. Buy lots of ink and paper. Not MAC friendly. Don't take.
Long projects will keep you busy but as long as you study and fill out his study guides you'll be fine, although you'll hate this class if you hate the Office suite. For anyone complaining about printing out tons of paper: Get some on sale and refill your own ink carts. You'll be set for the rest of college.
Doesn't' like meeting with students outside of class.
Class is monotonous, he is okay. SimNet software is pretty bad; it makes you do things its way or it will not be correct. Brian Kovar will send you more e-mails than you can read, it gets annoying. You don't have to print out the test sheet and bring it to your tests. If you complain to him in an e-mail be ready to read a novel length response.
This guy goes out of his way to try to trick you on the in class quizzes. Was hard to pay attention to, and out of class work was unbearable
After taking Mr. Kovar's class, I feel my Excel skills have greatly improved. You are not going to be successful in his class unless you study and you know what you are doing. He really stresses the importance of Excel and how it is used in the business world. Those who complain about him usually try to do the least while expecting the most.
Kovar will make you feel like if you don't know his material, you will fail at life. Unless you are going into the specific field, you will NEVER need to know 90% of this material. He will make your semester miserable, and make you consider changing your major just so you don't have to deal with his bull again. Hundreds of $ in printer ink & tears.
He is not good to be put bluntly
Kovar is an AWFUL prof. Avoid at all costs. There are projects every week, where you have to print off several pages. I studied for the lab quizzes and haven't excelled at them. Also, he never puts the grades in the gradebook, so you are never sure what your grade is. I will never know my final average in the gradebook. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
I really learned a lot in his class, although I had to work for it. I had to have good time management skills as my classmates who didn't tended to have problems. The best part of his class was his focus on Excel and my Excel skills are now so much better than in the past. There are so many things that I learned to do with Excel. He rocks Excel
I wish I would of knew of this site before I took his class. Our last final review sheet was 10 pages long when other professor's was only a page and 12. Within a week and a half you could have 3 projects 2 quiz's and a test. Unless you want to keep track of your grade you won't know.
They say it's not an online class but it is. The class is not hard if you do the practices online. I would start them about a week(or less) before the test I was taking and passed all three tests the first time. The excel test will be your hardest test. I advise you do the practices for all tests because the software has a specific way of doing it.
Mr. Kovar teaches a tough class that requires him to be a bit tough. The fact of the matter is you will have to spend many hours doing HW and studying. The good news is the that things Kovar teaches are very useful in college and your career. His personality is difficult for some, but if your go to class and work hard he is willing to help you.
Brian Kovar is the worst teacher I've had at K-State & more importantly in my life. He thinks he is so funny when in reality he is annoying & talks during tests. He isn't helpful & lets you out of class at least 10 minutes late everyday. If you email him about anything his response will be rude & sarcastic. I would never take a class with him again
One of the worst teachers I've had at K-State. He is so rude and not helpful at all because he thinks it should all be common sense. Expect TONS of time consuming projects and your grades will not be posted. The final is cumulative and 100 multiple choice questions. Avoid this teacher.
I had to do a lot of work in Mr. Kovar's class, but I learned a lot, especially with the hands-on lab assignments. I really learned a lot about pivot tables in his class. In all of the interviews that I have had, I get asked if I can construct pivot tables, and due to his class, I can confidently respond YES.
Worst professor at Kansas State. He is rude, arrogant, and not willing to help students. At all. He thinks his class is the only one that matters and keeps you late every class. If you try to leave to go to your next class he yells at you. He assigns an unnecessary amount of busy work. I don't know how he still has his job.
He isn't good.
Nice guy if you talk to him outside of class but horrible class. Expects you to randomly know things and acts like the class is your only class. Projects take forever and you have to go to the library to do them. Worst class I have taken at Kansas State- do not take it with him. Came out with an A only because I pulled several all nighters.
You need to buy a book for about $60, and only need to be used twice. And the way he teach is funny as freak, hope you have fun
His class is challenging and he expects a lot from his students. His class won't be easy, but you should learn a lot if you do what he asks and if you are there every day. He likes to use football to illustrate class topics. I went to his office and found that he was happy to spend time with me. All I needed to do was stop by and talk to him.
I didn't like him or his class for several reasons. The projects took SO long to do, he passes the attendance sheet out with 1min left of class always making you wait, he loves to boast about how he knows so much, if you tell him your sick he won't even reply to your e-mail. You can do OK if you literally dedicate all free time to this class.
Not very friendly. Responds to emails fast with a copy and paste of a letter he has already had written out. Even though he is your professor you never actually see him. Weird class.
very boring class, teacher is very rude, for example, I saw him today and said hi and he gave me a weird look and seemed uncomfortable to even be near me
Worked in business industry for a few years, & returned to achieve my business degree, this class was required for all business majors. I have NEVER encountered a person acting so unprofessionally in a professional environment. Email responses was disrespectful, let ego get the best of him. Software full of glitches & blames students for it? A joke
There are a lot of projects, no days off in this class there is something due or you have a test everyday of class. The class is just really tough and he does not make it any easier.
I liked that I could study and then take my 3 tests and get the class out of the way before I got busy with other things this semester. You can't be successful on the Excel test and Access test without studying, but putting in just a little bit of time and effort let me quickly pass each of those tests. My class mates who didn't study struggled.
My experience with Kovar isn't as bad as some of he others. He did like me and talked to me before class everyday but my biggest issue with him is just all the busy work. Gave us projects to do outside of class and had us do the same thing over and over again within the same projects, each one of his projects can take upward of 4 hours.
Kovar is very boring, his lectures are long and he rambles about the same thing for a very long time. He is a very tough grader on his projects and each one of them takes a long time (average about 2-3 hours). Candy crush was about the only thing that got me through his lectures.
Kovar isn't as bad as a lot of these reviews claim. Yes his jokes are terrible but he's not a terrible guy. He's a stickler for rules but he is upfront about his expectations. Projects take AT LEAST 3 hours. Tests aren't difficult if you read the powerpoints a few times beforehand. Everything on the test can be found on the PowerPoints
Not the worst teacher in the world but as mentioned before, so much busy work. If the online assignments were omitted completely, as it is pretty much the most worthless thing I have ever done, the class wouldn't be as bad. Just to much content for what the class really is.
He is the most awkward guy in the whole world. He has planned jokes and gets upset when you don't laugh at them. If something goes wrong in his planned lecture he gets flustered. Not very friendly and won't say hi to you outside of class. There are a lot of points for the class but you will be doing homework for hours. SO MANY PROJECTS.
100% would recommend taking this class with someone else. Although the technology taught in class is useful in careers, the class is poorly structured. His jokes are clearly scripted and horrible. Big Ego. Makes sure everyone knows if something goes wrong that it's not his fault. Hour(s) long projects with little grade in return. Lots of busy work.
He's organized af so you're never surprised by anything. Class is overloaded with assignments though. All the assignments are doable, the textbook walks you through it, and the tests are multiple choice and over terms. This class is time consuming, but you'll get a handle on Excel & Access. Take Kovar if you're not afraid of work but want to learn.
If you meet with him during office hours be prepared to be interrupted by him due to personal phone calls. 10/10 don't recommend.
I should've known not to take class with him when my academic advisor warned me about him. So many projects that are just busy work. His email responses to students are rude and disrespectful. If technology glitches he blames it on the student and not understanding at all. I counted down the days until I never had to take his class again.
Unprofessional. Comes off very condescending in emails. Not a positive aspect about this class besides never having to actually meet. Go through practice questions 1-2 times and you pass.
He is tough, but if you are willing to put in the time and effort, you can learn a lot in his class, especially with all of the hands-on software projects that he uses. I like that he regularly uses TopHat to quiz the class. I put in my answers and I see on the screen how the class is responding to the same questions. Attendance taken daily.
Lectures are boring and full of horrible, clearly scripted jokes. Be warned, he will take away test time by repeating the same 3 announcements for 20 minutes. I made the mistake once of going to his office hours, and he was insulting and condescending. Projects will take HOURS and aren't worth it. Do yourself a favor and take a different professor.
I would never take a class with him again. Every assignment was graded so tough and projects took 3+ hours to do every time. You have no idea what powerpoints to study for each test/quiz. One of the worst professors I've ever had.
The semester is not over but I sure am over this class. I have more homework/studying in this class than all of my other classes combined. 4 hours on excel projects, 3 hours on excel tutorials and they are due every week for little points but graded very harshly. Could be an interesting class with a DIFFERENT professor. 11/10 do not recommend.
His class is the worst I have ever taken. He must think we don't have other classes with homework because his assignments take HOURS. 3 textbook/programs and a lot of printing. All of my friends/family in the business and finance industry NEVER use pivot tables. He thinks you won't get a job if you don't know them. Shouldn't be a professor anymore
He doesn't seem to realize that this is a 3 credit hour class. Way too many assignments, most of which are conceptually repetitive. The one good thing I can say about him is that he has a very generous policy on late work.
He makes you work hard but you get lots of good hands-on experience using Excel. My Excel skills are much better now than they were at the start of the semester and there is so much that I can do now that I struggled with before. The hands-on work that I do in his class allows me to learn much more than just the concepts covered in other classes.
What a guy... Not sure what his deal is, but it's certainly not learning. He's a product of the educational system that makes teachers care more about grades than anything, and he feeds right into it. Do not take MANGT366 from Kovar, Boyer does a much better job. His projects are mind-numbing, his jokes are embarrassing and his class is bad.
worst teacher I have ever had. It's the day before the final and he hasn't even put in all the grades in the grade book so I don't even know where I stand with my grade in this class. ( keep in mind some of these assignments are months old and still not graded). Projects take hours and sometimes you'll have a test, project & quiz all in one week.
I would give 10 entries on this ratemyprofessor page, if it meant that you would know how poor of a professor Brian Kovar truly is. Alas, I'm only given 350 characters to describe this monstrosity of a class he has put together. Do not take this from Brain Kovar, he is a bad grader and does not help students understand the materia. That is all.
Guarantee most of the bad reviews here are because they started the "unbearable" Excel/Access projects the night it was due like most B-C students do. I get that he's quirky, but as long as you do your job and give him an ounce of respect he's approachable and willing to help. Doesn't hold your hand like most business students are used to.
Do not take. Awful.
My main complaint is the amount of printing it takes for each assignment, its literally absurd. This was the first semester I went through my free printing and mostly due to this class. Also takes so much time to do course work, tests can be hard and confusing. He tends to get distracted and makes weird jokes that are dry. Still now awful. Average.
Really heavy grader, doesn't have much patience explaining concepts outside of class. Try not to take the class with him.
Avoid at all costs. He is terrible and not a good teacher. You can tell he does not care about students outside of class at all. Just avoid him at all costs.
I understand why students do not like Professor Kovar. I can see why people would think he is annoying and repetitive, but he knows what he's talking about. His lectures aren't bad. Just show up and try to enjoy it and you'll do well. The content is actually kind of fun. I had a good experience this semester, even with the transition to online.
I had Brian during the spring 2020 semester, so everything was suddenly transitioned onto online. He was very good at making sure we had all the information we needed to learn but at times, it was a lot of work. Just making sure that you're keeping up with the course is how you'll succeed in it! He's also very understanding which is great.
Very tough and lots of homework, but not bad as a teacher.
There are not enough characters to stress the poor quality of Prof. Kovar and unfortunately he's your only option for this class. All I have to say is good luck. My experience was, to put it nicely, frustrating.
I decided to take this course fully online, although I believe the work load is the same either way. He's very repetitive in both the lecture videos and projects. I did not mind the assignments or quizzes, but the projects were way longer and more repetitive than necessary. I would never recommend taking a class with him, especially Mangt 366.
Brian Kovar may be the single most hated professor I have ever seen. His assignments are way too long, and in the lectures you will learn absolutely nothing. The whole class is pointless busy work. I would rather watch slow-motion analysis on how paint dries than to suffer through one Brian Kovar Excel lecture.
Brian Kovar is a legend. Turns Excel into a compelling epic of Cylons, Klingons, and hundreds of thousands of golf shots. Absolute brilliance. The projects aren't easy and are a little bit repetitive, but they're fulfilling and quite fun if you get into them. Online stuff was ok; really shines in person. Would take again twice, for entertainment.
Kovar is a great professor, I am glad to have had him. He can be a little nit-picky at times when he's grading assignments, but one shouldn't experience any major point deductions as a result of it. He did excellent at teaching the class how to use Excel and Tableau, I learned a lot from it.
Dropped his class because I was putting in so much time, but wasn't seeing any reward for it. He sends ALOT of emails prepare for your inbox to be full. Taking this as a summer class and had something due EVERY single night. I was spending hours every day on class for assignments to be worth maybe 2 points. Not a great prof. Should be easy class.
Class is a waste of time. Mangt 366 is a very easy course, yet Kovar places an emphasis on this course like it should be the hardest class you are currently enrolled in. A lot of busy work taking up time that would be better of spent on a class that provides much more to the student.
Brian Kovar knows everything about excel, but boy howdy is he hard. He has so many projects that take so much time. You have to study for his test or you will be left in the dust like a stray cow in a pasture. You can get an A, but you have to work hard for it. He acts like you don't have other classes.
Overall a great professor but needs to find ways to see how students can understand best. He wants you to learn the application but then test you by memorization which those just doesn't work too well. He will drop everything to help students and will respond within 2 hours always. Very nice and very knowledgeable. VERY VERY HARD AND LOTS IN INFO.
This was the worst class I have ever taken at KSU. This teacher will make you watch 30 minute useless videos and then test you over something he's never taught before. He's a terrible teacher. Instead of teaching you the right way to do something he'll just show the wrong way which is extremely confusing.
Get ready for the most boring three credit hours you will ever have to earn.
I can find no kind words to describe Brain Kovar. I hate him. HATE him. He makes no sense in class, only explains how to do things wrong, which is mad confusing, and then expects you to find 10 plus hours outside of class to do stupid repetitive projects that make you do and undo a million steps. Oh, and he will not help you.
A lot of people complain about Brian and I really don't get it. If you go to class and pay attention you will do fine. I struggle to comprehend how people fail his class, you have to try to fail it.
The people have spoken. We all know Mr. Kovar isn't good. Kstate needs to fire this guy asap. But will they? Nope.
He's not as bad as everyones says, the class just takes a lot of effort and attendance is mandatory. I feel like I've learned a lot. I would recommend you take it with the other guy if you don't feel like putting in effort.
He's not awful, he's just really repetitive which gets really old really fast. He dropped his exams and exchanged them for quizzes. But don't let your grade drop because it's nearly impossible to get it back up because everything is weighted so little.
Horrible. takes forever to go through notes and puts spaces in them in case you missed class you wont be able to go back and read over them. He gives long excel projects that take hours and micro grades on every little thing. Also assigns video lectures out of class that you cannot speed up or skip, he will take points off. Horrible teacher.
Getting one bad grade can ruin your entire grade and it won't go back up. Also I understand what I am doing and my numbers are correct but somehow he micro grades my assignments until they are a C or below, its so annoying. I am learning stuff yet I am about to drop this class and until they find a good teacher that cares about students.
He does not know how to use technology yet is "teaching" how to use technology. He takes points off for no reason and will not comment on why. Even his colleagues say he should have been fired a long time ago.
Don't let a man who does not understand technology teach an online class about technology. Excel is easy and he turns what could be a 5 min explanation into an hour long video where he constantly pauses, answers his phone mid video recording, and penalizes students for skipping through videos. HE DOES NOT WANT YOU TO GET AN A.
The worst professor I have ever had. Class format is terrible. Be ready to spend 6 hours a week listening to him whine and then have your entire grade depend on the final. He also talks faster than he thinks so you hear him slobber and stumble over his words and cough into his microphone. The only redeeming quality is that he has fire PowerPoints.
Unless you enjoy monologues about technology for 6 hours a week, don't take this class. He expects you to watch every second of his hours long lecture videos. I learned a decent amount in this class, but not without a painful amount of lectures. I spent probably 10 hours a week on homework and skated by with a 90%. Take caution.
Disrepectful and rude to his students.
Professor Kovar's inability to effectively explain concepts is very apparent after week one of the class. I am still not fully convinced that he knows the material he is attempting to teach. He then tries to make jokes throughout his lectures which never work out for him. Kovar is easily the most irritating professor/teacher I have had.
WORST professor I have ever had. Rudest man ever. Does not care about students passing the class. He will not care that he puts your grade in as zeros, and never fixes them. Embarrassed that K-State even has him as a teacher here because he is that bad. He will give hours of lectures and grade nit picky.
If you pay attention in the class and do the work carefully, it is unlikely you will get anything lower than an A. He is incredibly responsive and will email you back within an hour of your email.
Tough professor, but using unstuck AI for practice quizzes and flashcards helped me stay on top of the material. Definitely attend all classes.
He is bad at communicating
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS OR A CLASS WITH PROFESSOR KOVAR. Heavy lectures that could be summed into 20-25 minutes. Too many redundant homework/quizzes that do not benefit the student or Professor Kovar. Fairly rude to his students. I repeat DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
Sitting is his class at the moment wishing that I would have never enrolled to begin with. Showing us pointless online videos that are completely outdated. He over complicates his grading process and lectures (whether that is in class or his online ones that you have to watch start to finish). Will not ever take a future course with him.
Worst part of my week
Attendance is mandatory and missed class requires watching full video lectures. The projects are very time consuming and he always finds something to take points off for. His lectures are so boring and redundant, but he's clearly passionate. DON'T BUY THE BOOK the assignments aren't on Wiley. I got an A despite not being tech savvy, so it's doable!
His teaching style is great; he uses interactive notes, videos, and lots of practice time in class. Attendance is taken with mini quizzes at the end of every class, but they are an easy way to keep your grade up. The textbook is just for additional reading, and exams are open note. As long as you go to class and respect his time, he is great.
Never met a guy who could say so much while saying so little.
VERY picky grader, loves deducting for everything.
