He is an inexperienced teacher. He does not know how to teach. He just copy his note. He does not explain some problems. He just make students confused. In my class, many classmates do not understand what he is doing. I hope I can help you guys.
I do not recommend take his class, you cannot learn anything from him. I am taking his class, but I got to study myself. He need to learn how to teach Calculus. He know well, but he does not know how to teach students.
This class is fairly hard. I was getting a B all semseter and the final killed me!!! he writes alot of notes copied right from the book and does not explain them also he covers the board while writing. He offers help and alot of extra credit he also gives a lot of partial credit on the test. I would recommened him!!! You need to study to do good!!
Knows his stuff, but he copies all the notes from the book!!! If you study you will do good!!! Does not check the homework but it is in your best to do it!!! Offers help and even agrees to meet with you and help if you are having trouble!!!
Mr.Kurth is not a teach i would recommend to take especially if calculus is not the easiest subject for you.It drove me crazy that he would cover everything he was writing on the board. He was more concerned about covering lots of chapters in a short amount of time rather than actually teaching his students. Quiz every week. + gives partial credit
Do Not Take this teacher! He copies everything out of the book and if you ask a question to get clarification he can't answer it all he does is repeat the same stuff over again. Do not waste your time or your money.
Brian might be a bit inexperienced, but he knows his stuff. He tells you what you need to do to do well in his class. Most of Calc 1 and 2 aren't easy, but he always helps if needed. For those who found his class hard, it is...but if you study and do as he says, you will be fine! I've had Brian for 2 semesters and would highly recommend him :)
Calculus 2 was a breeze with him. Probably spent 60-90minutes before class studying the material doing some hw problems. Got an easy A in the class. He does a good job explaining things especially the older material that we easily forget the properties of logs.
Great teacher. Very specific and well organized. Lots of extra credit and opportunities for points. I've never been good at math and aced Calc1&2. Do the hmwk, read the book, and ask questions if you have trouble. If you're lazy, not good at math, and dumb, this is not the teacher for you. I highly recommend him.
Really don't understand why people are knocking this teach. He's the best math teacher I've had at Moraine (taking Nabb for 152 now). I suggest MVCC fires Madden and places Kurth in all her spots, with Nabb as the dept. chair. Madden is atrocious! Thanks Brian for helping me get through!
I had taken calculus previously with prof. bohra and failed the class. brian is a very good teacher and he has a great sense of humor and keeps even a dry subject like calculus interesting. he tells you exactly what is on the test and offers a ton of extra credit. he is always willing to help. I ended up getting good grades on all my exams.
This teacher is wonderful. they how he organizes the exams and quizes makes everybody comfortable, he gives a lot of chances for everyone to make up the grades that have been lost in exams, you will also get many take home quizzes.. extra credit in all of his exams plus test correction extra credt... if u fail with with brian then it is ur problem.
I absolutely love Brian, I took Calculus at UIC and I didn't do so well, but then I took it with Brian and did extremely well. He is a really good teacher and wants his students to achieve and understand the material. I took it in the summer so the semester went by fast, but his teaching is very clear and I would definitely take his class again!
As a tutor, he's the best ever. But as a teacher, he's hard. The fact that I took him for calculus which is a hard class might add to that factor. He is helpful though and if you have a question he'll be happy to answer. He WANTS you to ask questions. & he says there's no such thing as a dumb question which I think is true. He's really nice & cool
Brian is an extremely good teacher. Goes through all material again and again. every quiz/test always has bonus questions. he works to teach you about calculus, he knows his material very well and can teach it. take him if you can
He says jokes that are not funny all the time, but you have to laugh because he is so awkward. hahahha He tells you exactly what you need to know and is a chill good teacher. He answers all your questions and offers extra credit like all the time. he works with you and trys to make sure everyone does well. i'd really recommend him, his class is fun
Very underrated professor! One of the best at moraine. Tests are super fair and class is never boring. Hes a nice person and a fair grader! I highly recommend him
The best teach I ever took. pay attention in the class and attend every class you will get an easy A.All his tests and quizzes are fair. He even willing to help you after or before class if you need any extra help.
Fantastic teacher! Does everything he can to help you get an A or B. Great at going over material and answering questions. NEVER in a bad mood. I'm definitely taking him for calculus 2!
This is a great teacher. very helpful and will never make you feel stupid no matter how trivial your question is. calcII is not a walk in the park though. be ready to spend 20+ hours of study/week. I am in his honors calcII now and prof Kurth is a fair grader and will do everything he can so you get an A or B. Highly recommended.
Mr. Kurth is an amazing teacher. He's very nice, helpful and provides hand-outs to help you learn the subject. If I had to take Calculus 2, I'd definitely take it with him!
He is a great teacher. I highly recommend him for any math course. Try not to miss (daily quizzes count for 20% of your grade). His test study guides are very accurate to actual tests. He does NOT try and trick you on tests. He grades fairly, with partial and extra credit. I wish I could take another course with him.
Great teacher, very knowledgeable and always willing to help and answer questions clearly. He's a type a teacher that you want to learn from. Wish there were more teachers like him. You have to do the work to succeed in the class though., It's calculus
Definitely worth your time! The downfall is you take 2 quizzes each day (one before class, one after). Good news is he drops the two lowest quizzes from each unit (8 total.) His tests are fair. They are not intended to trick you; he also drops the lowest test score. Study your notes and do the hw and you'll be fine. However, the hw is not required.
Kurth was a FANTASTIC teacher. He was extremely organized and explained differential equations with methodical examples that were easy to follow. All exams were straightforward. I don't remember ever being stressed in this class. Would definitely recommend him!
Most likely the greatest math teacher I have ever had. Helpful in every manner and doesn't degrade you for asking a seemingly stupid question. I have always been afraid to ask questions in a math class for fear of humiliation, but not here. Very clear lectures and explanations, and he's adorably funny. (:
He's a really good teacher .
Mr. Kurth was by far the best MATH teacher that I have ever had. I needed to take Calc and was very worried about it. NEVER miss class unless you have a good reason and do not talk in class or be on your phone (This will bring your grade down). His test are TOUGH but go to him for help he will help you. If you work hard you will pass this class.
Best teacher NA. I couldn't give 55 for easiness just because it's Calculus. But his method of teaching just makes you be into the subject.
He is an easy grader!! His quizzes and tests are extreamly easy!! Those cover only basic questions which are almost same as ones on a textbook. All quizzes are group quiz. Ive gotten 100% for all quizzes and over 98% for all tests. If you don't wanna study hard, take his class!!
explains everything and is really willing to help his students if they dont understand something. if u get a little lost during class just ask and he will reexplain what u did he wont make u feel like u asked a stupid question. master the problems we do in class and u should ace the exams. he gives out take home projects that helps boost ur grade
This was a tough class bc it was calculus. However he was a funny and great teacher.
He is a genius and is probably one of the smartest calc teachers at this school, but he teaches like you have some knowledge of the material already. He also doesn't clarify steps he's done on the board if it's college algebra, or trig. He's a tough teacher and there is no way to pass without doing the homework and getting help from tutoring
Absolutely love this guy. Probably the smartest math teacher I've ever had, and he's constantly cracking jokes throughout the class. He's very lenient on anything and he gives a lot of partial credit on tests. He's very understanding plus his tests are simple and are never meant to be hard or trick you. Just put in effort and you have an A
Great teacher, his quizzes are group quizzes, so you're guaranteed to pass them. Tests are hard, but it's Calc, so that's to be expected. You have to work for your grade but he's a very nice teacher and is always willing to help. If you have to take Calc, take him.
Best teacher I've ever had. He loves teaching and math. He is very knowledgeable and helpful. You still have to learn Calculus, but having a teacher who is willing to help you and wants you to learn makes all the difference in the world. I love math anyway, but he made learning Calculus interesting and fun.
Professor Kurth is an amazing teacher. I had him for Calculus 3 and as a high school student, and I had a really good college firsthand experience. There are 3 tests that sum up to 50% of your overall grade however your lowest test score will be replaced by your final exam grade which is 25% of your grade. Tests are easy if you do your part.
Mr. Kurth is honestly the best professor at Moraine Valley Community College. I have taken the following courses with him for MTH: 150, 151, 152, and 201. He is very detailed in his lectures, covering the chapters well. He is very helpful when a student is struggling. His tests are very straight forward as long as you study and prepare for them.
Idk why Calc 1 w Kurth was just not my thing. Everyone said he was easy af but his exams were super difficult no matter how much i studied for them. Showing up to class, i walked out even more confused as hell :/ still passed somehow. Group work at the end of almost every class and HW wasnt for a grade :)
Took Brian for MTH 150, 151, 152. Great teacher, very thorough with the material, goes over many examples, explains everything if you ask him. Would definitely recommend.
One of the best math professors I've taken at Moraine. His lectures are easy to understand and he has a real passion for Calculus. Do the homework, review for the tests, and you'll be fine.
Hes a funny teacher that lightens the mood with memes before the start of a very long lecture. He teaches the material well but I would recommend doing the hw he assigns since the test questions are VERY similar from the assigned homework. Allows for test corrections and may curve at the end of the semester. Solid teacher and would take again !
Brian is a quirky professor and a great guy. He does a lot to boost your grade- extra credit on tests, frequent quizzes but all group (lowest 3 are dropped), lowest test grade is replaced by the final, and he gives hella partial credit. I will never forget when he said "g(z)-- Jay-Z's lesser known brother." Easy A if you take the notes
Brian is the best math professor at Moraine. He's very smart, and passionate about what he does. Study the notes and you'll get an A. I took MTH 150,151, and 201 with him, and I got A's in all of them. He's always more than happy to help outside of class, and he's always accessible. Definitely recommend if you're serious about studying.
His note handouts are amazing and so helpful. SUPER helpful if you're ever confused about anything or need clarification. I can't stress how helpful he is if you ever need help or are confused. Took him for 150,151,152, and 201 and got A's in all of them. Best math teacher at moraine hands down. His math memes are pretty funny at the start of class
Kurth is a really good teacher. His lectures & grading criteria are clearly organized. He answers every question & does his best to lighten the mood w/ jokes. Calculus comes to him like second nature, so sometimes he moves a little too quickly and mumbles through the problem. He offers group quizzes & EC to boost grades. He also curves A LOT.
On the upside, calculus is a very hard class as anybody can tell you. Kurth does a really good job of teaching it and explaining it. I bought the text book but have not used it the entire semester. Tests are difficult but he does a lot to help you pass and get a good grade. He is humorous. On the downside, he has trouble answering some questions.
Brian has to be the best professor I've had so far. Calculus is a difficult subject and he is understanding of that. He makes sure to answer your every question with patience from his end. Definitely would take him again. Wouldn't have gotten an A in calc without him.
350 characters are not enough to describe him!!!! AMAZIN HUMBLE PROFESSOR! I have so much respect for this professor, hes really nice, easy A, does anything to pull your grade up, I mean.. everything a student can ask for! And hes so smart and good at what he does! 4.2 rating isnt fair.. anyways, TAKE HIM, wish I could take him for calc 2 :(
I've had him for Calc3 and Diff EQ and he is great teacher. His exams shouldn't be too hard as long as you keep up with the material. He is not the easiest teacher but he always does his best to work within his students' favor. It never hurts to seek help on him if your confused about anything. Extra credit on his exams are stuff on the section.
By far the best math professor at Moraine. Explains material clearly and is always willing to explain anything that's unclear to you. Also constantly brings up old material to keep it fresh in your mind, like trig rules and derivatives. The main thing to make sure is to register for his classes early since his classes fill up so quickly.
He is a very nice guy and will help you with any concept you do not understand. Very few grades in the class and homework is optional (but it definitely helps).
Calc 2. Grading policy on tests is almost too easy. If you get a 50 you can do test corrections to get a 75 so its impossible to fail the class(He said he might stop doing this). That is even on top of him giving you so much partial credit already. Not really any homework too. Super chill and explains everything clearly and helps you if necessary.
Professor Kurth is the best math teacher at Moraine for higher level math. I took this class for Honors and it was still easy to pass. We did couple projects such as tutoring other students (which was a great experience). He is very clear about grading and you can make up every test. Great teacher who is giving many opportunities to curve your grade
Its nice to see a teacher with passion for their subject. He truly wants to teach his students. I also believe he passes on the same excitement he gets when he does problems to his class. Having a class where a teacher actually loves being in that class and loves getting into tangents about math is as close to a perfect professor as you can get.
Like puns? Kurth has plenty. The man knows his stuff really well and will help you out during office hours or after class. He has a quirky personality that is just overall likable. Calculus is a difficult subject to learn and he tries to make it as enjoyable as possible. Expect to work hard and he will help you along the way.
this class was sooo easy, his tests are so easy, his quizzes are take home, he gives projects take home. he explains everything so slow, and clear, he is very neat. i did not find any trouble with his class, it was the easiest class i have ever took.
Professor Kurth is a very knowledgable man but it can be difficult to understand him at times. You definitely need a greater understanding of algebra to fully grasp the overal subject. His tests are very fair, he provides plenty of partial credit and even curves exams. I would definitely recommend taking him if you are willing work hard and learn.
Kurth always tries to help people pass. Either test corrections or just curves instead. Don't buy the book, you never use it. 3 tests, 50% of grade. 2-3 quizzes, a few projects, and a final. As long as you show up and pay attention you can get at least a B. Always spends as much time as you need if you have questions. Best calc teacher at moraine
Had Kurth for calc 2, 3 and diff eq. Each class was easy compared to other professors. First test is a pretest which most people failed. 4 more tests, a few free 100% worksheets and final. Final replaces lowest test. If you do homework, you can get partial credit and get at least B's on tests. Study 1 section ahead and get 10% extra credit on tests
I am currently in my senior year of collage as a biology student and I have never gotten a C before but this man was my first. Ive had experience taking online classes so I am able to handle them but he did not make any video of his own. He just let persona and the tutoring center teach us. He only curves the final and its a test base class.
good teacher but talks a little fast and very note heavy so it is a little hard to keep up. but i would take him again.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS ONLINE - trust me please, I have absolutely no life because of my dedication to this class its practically impossible to do good. to be fair he gives you enough time to learn the material but it is impossible to learn without being able to ask how to do the problems.
Mr. Kurth is the best professor at Moraine Valley. I've had him for MTH150, 151, and 152. He inspired me to continue engineering and actually made me enjoy mathematics. If you put in the work, you will do well. He will help you outside of class and office hours anytime and cares so much about his students. Great sense of humor. True inspiration.
He never fully explains anything. When you ask him a question, it seems to become even more confusing than before. I love him as a person, which is why writing this sucks. He is so sweet and makes lots of dad jokes. But the way he explains things to me makes everything worse! He focuses more on what not to do than what to do.
DO NOT TAKE HIM ONLINE. He is a great person in the class, but online you will never meet him. I have a bachelor's degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology, and this class is the only class I had gotten a C in my entire undergrad, so rethink about taking it online.
I took MTH-153 (Calc 3) online at Moraine Valley with Kurth (Summer 2020). I personally would print out the worksheets and take notes for each lecture video on Pearson, but many students just watched. (Unfortunately, Kurth didnt make these videos.) This class was great to take online over the summer. Homework and quizzes prepare you for the tests!
The best professor I've ever met, I really enjoyed doing this class with him. unfortunately he didn't have online classes for this fall, I hope he will have classes next semester to take CALC 3 with him
you can be a math illiterate baby and he can make you a math genius if you go to him for help
He is the best professor ever that I took Math with, I wish he had fall classes too, so I could take Calculus 2 with him too. Anyway Ive registered for Calculus 3 and differential equations with him next spring. Im sure he is the best thats why Im confident.
I took a class online (Fall 2020) and his class was one of my favorites even though Im not the best at math. I am taking calc 2 with him this spring semester and I recommend him as a professor. :)
The class was the worst designed course I have ever taken. You are required to purchase a subscription to Pearson, in which you are taught by another professor that reads off-screen. 0 intuition built during the entire semester. Nothing was taught by the actual professor. Professor was non-existent all semester. I feel like I was robbed of my $.
I took MTH152 online through the MyLabMath system. The money for Pearson is well worth it, as all the lectures are recorded and stored on here for later use. All of the homework questions can be done with unlimited attempts and the tests and quizzes typically mirror the homework. If you keep up with the lectures each week, this class is an easy A
I have taken his classes for my math mendetory for my Master's degree. I have taken Math 150, 151, 152, 210, 201,215 he has fear amount of homework. Gives great study guides for tests. He gets you to love the subject and his humerous anectote is great start to his classes. A big fan of StarWars!
All the work is on Pearson my lab. Curves every test and the final and you get 3 attempts on the quizzes. Unlimited attempts on homework. It's hard to NOT get an A. Take him online and you wont regret it.
I took this class during the summer, there were a lot of assignments, all due within a two week period for each unit. As someone who has to work and take other classes , I found this class forgiving. Even if you missed an assignment (except exams) you were able to get 85% on late questions. There are no provided lectures which makes it harder.
My experience with Professor Kurth was fantastic. Always responded to emails within 24 hours and had a very forgiving grading system. For those that needed it, he allowed 85% points on all late assignments and exams. His homework and lectures prepare you well for the quizzes/exams. Overall had no issues and made Calculus 3 a fantastic experience.
Great teacher, answers any material questions clearly and concisely, and more importantly, a kind, funny dude
Took it online in the summer (8-week course). Teacher is nice but doesn't really do anything. 100% of the class is on Pearson, including notes, videos, book, hw, quizzes, and exams. There are four units and everything is due at the end of the unit. It is a lot of work (which is understandable) so you need to put in effort or def you won't pass.
cool guy he cares about your education take him
He's a good teacher he's funny during lectures and keeps students engaged :) The only negative thing I could say is that he does give homework with a LOT of problems in each section it requires a lot of time which I guess is good for students that need the extra help however if you've already mastered the concept, it sometimes seems like busy work.
Take Diff EQ online over a semester, it's probably your best bet to getting an A in this class as it is a bit challenging, but obviously doable if you lock in a bit. Kurth is a good professor you can reach out to by email he responds pretty quickly and is understanding. I remember the curve was insane online so it was an easy A.
Professor Kurth made Differential Equations and Linear Algebra a breeze. I had not taken a math class in over 7 years so I was a little worried stepping back into it but honestly having Kurth made it a guaranteed A. Take advantage of his office hours he's always excited to help!
