really nice helpful fair professor. be on time and do what's asked in the field studies, just follow the guidelines carefully. not bad.

Really nice guy! Great sense of humor, BUT not sure he takes the class seriously. We spent the entire course learning how to teach Social Studies with little to no focus or incorporation of Social Studies Content. You get the feeling that most of the people walking away from this course will ultimately have NO CLUE how to teach social studies.

I really liked the class but one of my friends did not turn-in the first two assingments and he never left alone the whole semester. He is psycho if you get on his bad side.

The class was really easy until we did the lesson plans. He was helpful but really made us figure out things for ourselves. I agree with other posters here, don't get on his bad side. I never had any problems because I always had thing done on time and such. BTW-Don't text in class, he will take your phone.

Don't let him intimidate you at first, he is great once the course gets going. You will learn a lot about lesson planning, you have no choice!

I am in the class right now and 642 is the best 'methods' course I have taken in the MAT program. Lanahan really teaches you how to write a lesson in class, not just ask you to do it at home.

Lanahan is an awesome professor with a real passion for what he does. HILARIOUS and very interesting. He makes hard texts easy to understand and is extremely helpful. Take him!! He rules and connects material with relatable projects and stories.

He is a very nice guy, amazing professor. He makes philosophical works easy to understand. Insane phone policy and only 2 absences allowed before you grade is cut.

He loves all his haters and showed the class these comments and makes the haters look stupid. He is mean if you text in class and dont turn in stuff on time. Otherwise he was the best prof i had in my program.

At first he seemed like a tough professor. But, If you see him after class to ask questions about the material he's really a great guy and very helpful. First day of class I was tapping my foot because I was nervous and he approached me, and told me there was nothing to be nervous about, if I put the effort in I would be Gold. Really great guy!

Although there is a lot of work, his course is so fun! He is probably one of my favorite teachers I've had through out my college career. He is very funny, makes the class interesting, and addresses topics that are relevant to everyone. I would deff recommend him if you want to become a teacher because you can tell he loves what he does, and cares!

Extremely kind guy, very understanding and treats students as an equal. We didn't have any tests, but a good amount of short quizzes based on readings that were pretty basic. He is super upbeat and hyper ALWAYS.

Lanahan is great! He is a really easy grader and not much work to do. Every class you do have to do readings because he will randomly give quizzes but he will usually tell you and they are pretty easy as well. He's pretty funny and makes class interesting! I never used the textbook either so don't worry about getting one. 5 papers and 1 midterm!

Happy I took this FYSE, he is very easy-going. Usually has reading quizzes, but nothing more than you can find on spark notes. Also there's only two papers, one presentation no midterm or final and ends the year with a class party.

Prof Lanahan is by far the best professor I've had since I've been at CofC not to even mention how easy his class is. He always has interesting insights on just about anything. He's extremely cultured... he literally saw Beyonce and her husband in Rome. Point is, he is an extremely helpful professor 10/10

Very nice, and knowledgeable. Can go off on a political tangent from time to time, but he reels it in fairly quickly. He likes for students to work in groups, and he'll expect at least one presentation. But very personable and accessible.

He sets you up for success if you do your work. His lectures are easy to follow, he assigns a lot of group in class work, and gives opportunities for you to speak plenty. Has quizzes on the readings assigned for homework and his papers/exams are super easy if you pay attention in class.

He's an energetic and passionate professor. Really makes me excited to continue taking education classes. He was awesome. Graded really easily and gave good feedback. His assignments are very to-the-point and it's extremely difficult to get below a B in this class. He really wants his students to succeed.

Really really surprised to see that professor Lanahan had a bad review, he is passionate about education and is truly one of the best professors I've had at the college. I went into his class as an undecided major and have now declared early education because of his lectures.

Wonderful Professor! If you do the work, you get a good grade. Its ALOTTTTT, but you definitely learn alot.

Professor Lanahan is a great professor. He is very knowledgable about education. He does tend to assign a lot of reading, and his papers can be tough at times. However, he guides you on exactly what he wants. As long as you show up to class and put in the work, you will be fine.

I really enjoyed taking his class. Hes very outgoing and a little nutty but in a good way. We did have to do a lot of readings and group work during class, but as long as you got the general idea of what was happening you were fine. We only had a couple papers and he guided you through them so they were very easy. Highly recommend taking him.

Im not sure why he has so many poor reviews. Really not a hard class. Clear expectations and rubrics for assignments. He is very passionate, understanding, and clearly cares about his students. There are readings but they're not hard- group discussions but if you come to class somewhat prepared and have any idea of whats going on you'll be fine.

I do not understand all the bad reviews about this guy. He is awesome. He is sweet and so invested with his students. There are readings, as long as you know the main takeaway from readings you're FINE. 2 papers with clear directions. Few quizzes. Midterm/Final very easy and straight forward. All around a great professor. 100% would take again.
