Great professor, interesting lectures and stories, very qualified, loves his job!
I liked Legakis, he was a chill teacher and a nice guy. However, he is not a great teacher and he tends to put way too many things on the study guides for tests . But his generous grading make up for it. Overall a little dull, but nobody says you allways have to pay attention.
Good teacher, explains things well, not too demanding, gives helpful handouts and perpares you well for the tests
he's way money
awesome teacher, loved his class. Took it during winter session, great gpa booster.
Sit up front. Never, ever talk. Just appreciate the man and his knowledge.

good teacher, a bit strange....i had some trouble understanding what he wanted sometimes. very nerdy, but in a funny way....
Very interesting to listen to, even if he's kind of a snob. I was disappointed that most of the exams involved memorizing dates, names of artists, and names of the works, as opposed to testing how well you understood the cultural or social significance of the various works and movements.
great teacher-Enthusiastic & fair
A very good teacher who knows what he is teaching. His classes are not easy. But if you pay attention to his handouts and lectures, you will do fine and even better because all quizes, miterms, and final are from there.
When Brian speaks of Greek Mythology... I'm swept away. Woops!
Brian Lagakis is the best Art History Professor at Cabrillo College. He is very organized and makes the class super interesting. If you are interested in Art, take a class from him, you will learn a ton!
He was really nice and helpfull i enjoyed his class alot
Great when he stays on subject, but wanders off into stories about vacations, Jackie O, astro turf, movies he saw during the weekend and a hundred other topics during class. Had to buy 2 books and only used them for reference on the papers... save your money and just use the ones on reserve in the library.
Easy class. All we had to do was memorize the title of painting, the painter, and period for his tests. The only thing his lectures were good for was for writing the papers. Very intersting teacher tho. I learned a lot from his class when I decided to show up. And he loves his job. Very encouraging and easy to talk to.
Man, this guy was so boring that I wanted to die! I almost rethought being an art major, as surely nothing could be more boring than his lectures. I ended up dropping and taking a similar class at another college. Whew, that was close!
Great guy. Really knows ancient Greece, but great on Latin America too. Really good with Latino students.
Interesting class that touches on all subjects of history, culture, art. I felt I learned alot of different things. Do not buy the book because you only need it for papers (if you choose). No quizes, just memorizing for tests and beautiful art for an hour!
Brian is without a doubt my favorite teacher. He is the reason I decided to be an art history major. He really knows what he's talking about. My only thing is that sometimes I wish the class was harder.. but thats just me
The class was pretty interesting, but Legakis is of the map. Lots of ranting and tangents. He decided this semester not to give out handouts so be ready to be feverishly scribbling notes, which he will not give you enough time to complete. Quizzes are done by powerpoint so theyre stressful and rushed. Assigned irrelevant paper.
Legakis is a boring teacher!!!! he sure does know what he's talking about...and always show enthusiasm for art....but he is boring. His tests were hard...gave us a sheet of examples on what the test was gonna be like (study sheet) and was completely different than the actual test...I wouldnt recommend this teacher....
Legakis is a good teacher, I've learned a lot, but there's really no way to prepare for his quizzes and tests. They're hard. If you're not already very familiar with art history it's a difficult class to get an A in.
Legakis is a great teacher. As long as you're willing to go to class and pay attention it's easy. I always thought I was going to do poorly on the tests but if you pay attention to what he says and skim the book you'll get A's like I did. He's also super helpful, you just have to ask! Very understanding, very good teacher.
I love Legakis, I loved his lectures. He is as knowledgeable as it gets. I didn't find his tests and quizzes too hard at all, whoever is claiming this obviously didn't study. If you don't study for them you definitely won't do well. I recommend Legakis to everyone!
Brian is a very knowledgeable teacher. He has been in the business for many years, and knows how to teach. Just memorize the flash cards and you will pass the class. My textbook is still in the wrapper. Take a few notes from his slides, and ur good to go. REVIEW your test when you get them returned because all of mine had grading errors.
This was definitely a great class. It is so helpful as a student to learn from a teacher who is actually in love with the subject they are teaching about. I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn, but if you want to be able to get by without going to class or studying much, don't bother.
i love art history with Legakis, he is the BEST lecturer, he is lively and keeps you interested. he has the best stories from his travels. his quizzes and tests are hard but if he posts the material online for you class, just copy the slides into your notes and you will do just fine.
Great teacher! He made the class interesting and fun. The testing style was a little weird at first but I actually ended up liking it way better. I would definately take another class from him
I took him for AH 12 and 13 and he is the best teacher ever. I plan on taking more classes with him. He is funny, smart and very nice. He knows his art history! I HIGHLY recommend him. Quizzes are open note and tests are easy if you pay attention and study a bit. Wants you to succeed and blames himself for any Fs. My favorite teacher in the world.
really must attend all classes!information is clear and relevant. i kinda wish the tests were a bit more difficult but i know i am in the minority with that opinion. highly recommended.
Dr. Legakis is a great professor and really cool. He is really into art history. Information is really clear and he always answers questions. I love inspirational talks because I know he is invested in his students. I recommend his Art History of Mexico course. DOC LEGAK IS THE MAN.
i truthfully found his class very interesting. there was like 3 or 4 assignments. he is very helpful. i highly recommend his class. if your not interested in learning why take the class. some student were very disruptive but he kept his calm and told them to be quiet.
I am very surprised that my view is contrary to most of the people's here. I found Brian Legakis's class very boring, and very easy - I was often put to sleep during class. Still I was able to score A's because of how ridiculously easy his tests/assignments are. Legakis is NOT very knowledgeable in my opinion; he left out quite a lot of history.
FABULOUS teacher. i've taken a few of his classes and done well. attend class/take notes. open note quizzes are much easier if u put all info on 1 pg and he only gives 1 paper. the exams are easy if u make flashcards, otherwise it seems overwhelming (really not tho.) final is wk before finals :) he has to be my favorite teacher at cabrillo.
HE is an awesome teacher! All you need is to spent some time memorizing the slides! interesting lectures!
Little info on Native American art and its history. Spent a lot of time showing slides of his camping vacations and unrelated anecdotal rambling. He never used the textbooks.
he is all hype. he is like an old hipster. i liked his class the again i was blown the whole semster and passed XD
Brian Legakis is well informed about his subject matter. Attendance is mandatory because he may ask specific questions on a slide that he was talking about. The books could be skimmed through at most. He grades very specifically,ie. Cahokia would be wrong because it's not "Cahokia Illinois"
I took 3 classes with him: ancient, medieval and Renaissance art history. VERY knowledgeable, goes into depth beyond "textbook" art history, makes connections to material and political contexts. These classes are worth the time & effort!
Legakis is a GREAT teacher. He's super knowledgeable and makes the effort to keep his students engaged. I would definitely recommend his classes. Oh, and he's kind of attractive, as well. Heh.
Going in, I was not expecting such an interesting and decent time in art history, but Brian is great! He knows how to keep the lecture from becoming boring, and gives many anecdotes through out. The quizzes and tests can seem intimidating, but the guides he gives make it easy to memorize what will be needed.
Why oh why did I pick this ridiculous class?! Slides upon slides of camping trips and useless stories about nothing. Barely discussed Native art. Seems to have not read textbook and it doesn't matter if you do either. Tests are hard and he makes it impossible to study well. "Prepare for everything!" Worthless class. Avoid at all costs.
Brian is absolutely the best teacher I've had, hands-down. He is helpful and kind when you need assistance, and he is always available for his office hours and is prompt to respond to emails. His lectures are interesting, containing mostly images, so be prepared to take notes from his speech, not off the Powerpoint slides!
Brian is a great guy. He's interesting, tons of life experience to share that is relevant to the class, and has a very dry wit. You must, however, attend class, pay attention, and take good notes. Do this, and you'll get a good grade. Out of my classes this past semester (Econ, Psych, etc), this was the hardest - lots of info. Still very enjoyable.
Grade only based on 4 tests and 2 assignments. Lectures are mostly filled w/ him talking about himself & useless info but he requires attendance. Tests are memorizations of artworks/artists/time period basically thats it, No grade updates, almost no homework except studying & no book use (dont recommend getting book), Gives study guides for tests.
he has a cool mustache
He cares very much for his students. If a student needs something, Legakis will always be there to help them. Real Easy if you have an interest in art, no homework just 2 tests and 1 essay.
Awesome Guy Great Professor Killer Stache
Great teacher awesome mustache he has alot of life experience and easy to listen to.
had him 3 times, interesting material and somewhat charismatic teacher. While his personal stories are interesting they occur too frequently. Still, overall good teacher.
fantastic, enthusiastic, funny, and interesting man and teacher.
Brian was one of the best teachers I've ever had! He is very helpful and has no problem repeating himself. He makes his lectures interesting by telling real life stories. However, buying the textbook was pointless, I didn't use it at all.
He can be quite temperamental. Lectures everyday with slides that are all online. He moves quick throw slides at times which is really annoying because there isn't enough time to write. Get there early so you can get a good seat and not have to crawl over all your fellow classmates.
Great professor, one of the best at Cabrillo! However, attendance is a MUST because everything on the exam is from lecture...textbook rarely used. If you have a question, he emails back promptly, within a few hours. Very interesting lecture, though he moves fast, so learn to take notes quickly!
If you aren't afraid of working for your grade you have nothing to worry about. You will learn a lot, and Brian will make it interesting. He has great stories to share about subject matter. He loves art, and this makes it easy to enjoy his classes.
Legakis cracks me up, this guy has the driest humor (I mean that in a good way). He's very passionate about his work, and his stories help you imagine and connect with the subject matter. He practically TELLS YOU THE EXAM ANSWERS in his study guide, so if you fail - that's sad. Overall, an easy and fulfilling class with a great teacher!
I was looking forward to taking this class, but I was disappointed by this professor. He has a lot of knowledge and experience, however his class was anything but interesting. Brian is a nice guy but I would not recommend him to other students. He can be very monotone and dull and the class is very slow.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. Makes lectures very interesting and supplements them with his own photos/stories. If you attend all lectures, study for the tests, and turn in the essay, you will do extremely well in his class.
I absolutely LOVED his class. And I have trouble understanding anyone who didn't. The material by itself is fascinating, but when taught by someone with such incredible knowledge and life experience as Brain...it really made it a wonderful experience! I even contemplated/am contemplating changing my major to art history or archeology.
EASY class! The lectures are a bit boring since all they are is power points. Gives study guides for quizzes and tests, if you study and know everything on that study guide, you will get an A! Test is identical to study guides. One 3 page essay that's a piece of cake. Class definitely recommend.
Easy class and a awesome guy(mustache included). He is very experienced and passionate about his subject. Take notes and use flashcards. His test are relatively easy if you just study. Have fun viewing awesome pictures of ancient art.
If you are looking for an easy general ed. class this is NOT IT! Ya, he's great and nice and knows his stuff, BUT is test are all based on memorization of slides, pictures, and names. Easy if this is the only class you are taking but taking a full load and this class it doesn't make time to actually learn everything you need to in order to pass.
Outstanding, interesting lectures. Won't be bored, lots of pictures. Very helpful and flexible. Will try to help you in anyway possible.
Dr. Legakis is a really nice guy and an awesome teacher. One essay, two small quizzes and two exams (one is comprehensive). He makes it easy to succeed in Art History; if you can't get a "B" in his class maybe college isn't for you. Don't buy text it wasn't needed.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AND WILL TAKE AGAIN! Dr. Brian Legakis is a really good professor. He is super easy all you need to do is study for the tests which are really easy. He assigns only one 5 page paper which he grades easily. Straight forward. Oh yeah don't buy the books you don't need them at all
I have vowed to do a research paper showing a direct correlation between a man's mustache and his abilities as a professor. Dr. Legakis has the coolest mustache ever and his teaching is extraordinary. He is very organized and clear. His prowess at digital media and software rivals the profs I've had in programming. I'm an engr major and loved him!
Really fun class. Not much work, just be sure to study. It may seem like you don't need the textbook at the beginning of the class , but there is an essay at the end which the book will really help you out with.
Brian is a very kind man who really tries his hardest to connect with each and everyone of his students. He knew everyone by name by the third week. I took the honors version of ancient art history and while the material could get boring he did his best to keep everyone engaged. Two quizzes, midterm, final and a long term paper. Amazing teacher!!!!
Brian is a nice guy, but the classes were boring. I spent $90 renting the textbook and never used it so I don't recommend getting one. His tests and quizzes are based purely on memorizations of slides that he gives you, so if you have photographic memory it will be an easy A.
Legakis is a great man. I recommend his classes, all you have to do is show up and study his practice slides word for word. He's always there to help and listen. I'll take more classes from him.
Great lectures and everything is online. He'll drop you from the class if you miss more than two classes. The pop quizzes are easy, so just show up every time- he likes to give pop quizzes when lots of people are absent.
Easiest class I ever took. If you're good at memorizing things this is the class for you. He easily gets off topic and rambles. You don't need the textbook all you need is to study his slideshow on the website!
A really nice guy that gives pretty interesting lectures. You don't need the text book at all- all his tests are based on slides he gives you ahead of time. Memorization is key for passing his tests. He threatened a pop quiz but never gave us one. You have to be there every class though or he'll drop you.
Brian made the subject very interesting. He was always in a good mood and energetic about the material. There was a quiz, a midterm, a paper, and the final to make up your grade (with a few pop quizzes). He's a super nice guy and always willing to help clear things up so you understand.
I loved his teaching! He keeps it very interesting and makes you want to travel to world to see everything he shows you. A lot of the slides are his own pictures from when he was there. Tests are not hard.. would suggest making flash cards. You will never touch the text book don't buy it. I would take this glass again just for fun!
Prof. Legakis is cool his lectures are easy and posted on his webpage. Before the exams (1 midterm & the final) he gives you exactly what will be on the test so you just have to memorize it. The last paper is lengthy but not complicated at all.
Brian is very interested in art history. Every class is a long lecture but the enthusiasm from Brian makes it way more interesting. The quizzes and essays are all straightforward and are doable with some studying and diligent note-taking.
Brian is an amazing professor. One of the best art history professors. He made our class lectures very interesting and simple. Pop quizzes and exams are very easy if you study material he presents in slides. However he gives a study guide and that study guide is exactly the same as exams. I learned so much from him and his lectures very caring!
Brian is super nice and this class was pretty interesting, I really like his enthusiasm about the subject, I feel like it reflects onto the students. Do not buy the textbook! You don't need it, everything you need for tests and quizzes he literally draws out for you very clearly on his website. Great teacher and I recommend him!
Professors Legakis is very kind and you'll be lucky to take his class before he retires. This class takes a lot of studying for tests. Helped me learn to enjoy art. I really enjoyed his class and getting to talk to him. He is very passionate for what he does. Also, he is always very willing to help you. There are not many professors as kind.
Brian is one of the nicest professors I've ever met. He really wants everyone to pass and tells you exactly what you will be tested on. Definitely take this with him!!
Amazing teacher! He cares so much about all his students and really wants you to succeed! You don't need the textbook. He tells you everything you need to know and is very straight forward and kind hearted. Definitely would take him again! He is so passionate and it rubs off on his students.
Cool teacher BUT I really did not like how he would mark off points when I misspelled ONE word yet my friend would misspell or not finish the answer and she'll get full credit smh
Lectures may get boring but you will learn a lot. Study before quizzes and you'll pass. Great professor!
his lectures are boring but its an easy class. very interesting sometimes with certain lectures. a lot of memorizing for tests and short essays!
