He is really a nice guy, very helpful and encouraging.
Most boring teacher I've had. Going to class was such a drag. Essay topics was interesting and all you do is listen to him. Hes also is very confusing, gives very little of no A's, and has no type of reliable grading scale.
Great teacher you will learn alot. Gives out alot of good grades. Fairly easy and give students the opportunity to improve their grades.
He's a very laid back teacher that tries to teach in a way that's interesting. Essay topics are interesting but his grading is tough and it's not clear what he's looking for. Work very hard to get an A.

Very helpful, clear, and friendly. I greatly improved my writing skills. The course work was not too overwhelming. He gives you chances in class to work on your papers and revise them with the help of peers.
Brian Lewis is a great teacher. He helps the students understand how to write and with paper topics. He was one of the coolest teachers I have had at Foothill College.
He looks nice. But i think he is hard and not encourging students.Instead he will tell u that it's very challenging to improve in English. No extra credit but lots of work. Unless u've good english background, don't risk with him if u need good grade.
this guy doesnt teach at all. The class correct each others' hwk using an online system..he'd never review ur 1st /2nd draft unless u go to him in person. that means you dont hv a chance to improve ur essay b4 u turn it in. just 3 or 4 As in the class.
this guy is very unclear, u never know wt he wants. he gave out a lot of no passes this quarter.. he grades PEOPLE not WORK. dundundun take his classes.. he isnt worth ur money
Hard grader; However, nice teacher. Best English teacher ever.
A very very very lazy teacher. He doesn't want to work with the students at all.

Excellent, excellent, excellent. He is a great teacher, knowledgeable, helpful and flexible. As an international student, he helped me to improve not only my writhing but also my thinking skills. I Highly recommend this professor.
I love Lewis. He is the best english teacher.
He's great teacher, everything is clear and fair.
very nice guy. Heavy workload, yet working hard helps you a lot. Grading is not too tough, just don't show grammatical mistakes. "A" is not a great problem if you try to get used to his teaching style.
Lewis is the ultimate example of what a teacher should be. He is really nice and is willing to help you whenever you need him. My favorite!
He's EASY....if you are lazy then you should take his class. I didn't show up half the time and still got an A. =)
Really nice guy, good teacher too. He's really into what he teaches, even if it gets a little boring. Lots of homework, grades fairly, your writing will improve a lot.
Very nice and cool. Has a bit of hw but it is easy to do and get an A on.Keep on top of your essays and you'll do fine.Funny guy too.Can be a little hot at times, appearance wise. ;)
Good looking guy. He's nice and he remembers every one of his students. Really nice!
Mr. Lewis is not only a great teacher, but a really nice guy. always willing to help, try your best and youll do well.
Great instructor, very willing to help students, tries very hard to make sure students actually get something out of the course and be prepared for next course in the sequence. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Great teacher, not hard if you come to the class, and seek help during his office hours. Really recommended for anyone.
Mr. Lewis is friendly and approachable. He is helpful during office hours and is always willing to help! A good teacher overall. Do your homework, attend every class, and don't be late.
Mr. Lewis is a great guy. He's understanding and is willing to help when you need. There was quite a few essays, but atleast the topics were intresting. Highly reccomended.
I took his class long time ago, and I often remember his lecture. I really appreciate that he has helped my improvement. What he taught me is now very useful in university.
Brian is a great guy, very helpful during his office hours. Do your homework, don't miss class or be late and you should be fine.
Mr. Lewis is a great teacher who is always willing to help. Sometimes I found the class a little boring, however, the benefits of the class outweighed the negative aspects greatly. Just a really good teacher. Take him if you can.
Brian is totally into Sociology. EVERYTHING is based on it, a little 2 much. If u like SOC, then go for it, but if not, then don't. Lectures A LOT, sometimes funny, doesn't really help u, he likes to make u do things on your own, which sometimes wasn't helpful. I just didn't find him 2 be a good teacher, but his class makes u think, which is goo
He's one of the greatest instructors I've known.
Not recommended if you're concerned about grades. His system makes it almost impossible to get an 'A' in the class. 'A' papers only earn around 95% (nobody gets 100%). 'B' on any paper almost guarantees you won't get an 'A' for the class. Besides grades, his books and topics are pretty boring, but he blames any lack of interest on his students.
Great and easy going teacher. You can easily earn 5% from compiling all the essays you wrote into a portfolio.
This class felt like a waste of time. Didn't really learn anything useful. I was excited about the class as a possible English major, but it turned out to be pretty boring. And Lewis gets condescending by saying it's your fault if you find the material boring. Actually, it's his fault, but he fails to see that. Hard grader too. Can kill your GPA.
He required more works from students, but he did a good job at making the course challenging, enlarging and interesting. I learned a lot from his class: English, California history, and sociology too.
This class is very overwhelming and he expects a lot out of each student. I did much more homework than I have for any other class. Nice guy though!
Brian is a great teacher, he's patient and always willing to help out, as long as he isn't out of the office.I took his online class and it was interesting. I'm just hoping to be able to get into his 1B class.
Amazingly dedicated, fun teacher. You will learn alot from him, but it will not be a free ride.
Mr. Lewis was an awesome teacher. I learned a lot from him and he was very helpful. It's definitely not an easy A but he grades fairly and you leave that class with knowledge.
He is the best English teacher I have ever met. If you really want to learn something, take his class, it's really helpful. But I suggest to take him with non-transferable classes like ENGL 100, otherwise, you would have to work really hard to get good grades.
Homework in his class was a systematic approach that helped me write better. I did the homework and got good grade from ENGL 1A last quarter.
DUDE, i was the only one who had hard time catching up English. I have repeated ESL more than 5 times. I would say ESL freaking hard, But trust me ENGLISH 1A & 1B are more easier than what you think. BRIAN's 1A, 1B more unique not too hard you will learn a lot through easy type of essay. I even passed B+. what you gonna say???
Great teacher, really keeps you focused and inspired to do well in his class. Made me a student again, instead of someone who just goes to college because he feels like it's where he has to be.
Professor Lewis is wonderful! I absolutely loved the class and can say that I learned a lot. He is very involved and makes sure to listen to his students. He enjoys feedback and input which not all professors appreciate. I highly recommend him.
he is a good teacher, he inspired me to actually take voting serious but keeps changing the syllabus and since the beginning of the quarter he never went by paper syllabus but keeps making it up as we go along. This is making me very stressed and its very annoying...
best english teacher ever!!!! and cute! haha i loved him! REALLY hope I can get him for 1A
if your someone who struggles in ENG this class can help you, work is pretty easy if you apply your self like in any college class. he helps you if you are putting effort and inspires your ideas on writing as an eng1A you should know the basics of eng to be advise i Recommend him alot plus he's really cool, cant dance ha "teach me how to Dougie"
His grading is absolutely incomprehensible and his comments on essays are utterly confusing.
Okay so, his grading is kind of confusing and please don't take him if you don't expect to do loads of assigns. But, he is nice and do put effort into students. Fair class.
Great teacher! I learned a lot from the guy, and unlike other english teachers, he tries to focus on what's good in your work instead of what's wrong with your work. He focuses on the positive, etc. As long as you put in the work, you will be able to succeed. Really nice guy too, and he really cares about his students.
Great teacher!I enjoyed his class very much.He is very helpful and makes his class fun, unlike every other teacher..His classes fill up fast though.
Lewis is super nice! Good Class! You can learn a lot! He is very fair. I would def recommend him!
Quite a hard class at first glance; he related almost everything with elements in sociology, and the 4 readings for his first in class were difficult. However, he is not a hard grader and he sticks to his rubic so it is not hard to predict his grading trend. Very helpful, humorous and kind, and will try to accomodate your time clashes.
One of the best professors I've had at Foothill in the 2 years I've attended. Focuses on the positive in your work, rather than the negative. Tells you EXACTLY what he wants and what will get you a good grade in the class. Not that tough of a grader, but the effort you put in will reflect your grade. TAKE HIS CLASS. You will learn a ton...
Take this professor! He is hands down one of the most best, helpful, and positive professors I've ever had. I wish all professors were like him. His curriculum is based on a culture perspective, and that makes it easier to get ideas for essays. There's a lot the student can write about. He also gives a lot of time for essays to be perfected.
One of the best teacher i've ever seen.He is very helpful. Take his class.
Brain Lewis is hands down the best teacher ever. He made English very interesting and he really worked with his students on how he can interest them. He is very helpful and he really cares about his students getting an A in his class. He is very supportive and I learned a lot from him! I wish I could take other English classes with him. TAKE HIM!
way too much work
This professor was one of my first professors for English, and I can easily say he's been the best one so far. His work is simple, he has fun classroom activities, and he grades really easy. I learned a lot from his class that I can use in other english classes. If you wanna take Eng 209 or 1A, he's the best.
Brian is without a doubt my favorite professor I've had in college. He's very fun to be around and his energy is fed by the energy of others! He's always smiling and helps everyone with whatever they have trouble with. His grading is simple and easy, yet very accurate. I took him for 209 & 1A and now 1B! I ENCOURAGE YOU TO TAKE HIM!
Professor Lewis is a wonderful teacher. I'm not a huge fan of English; however, I really enjoyed his class and I would highly recommend him. He gives the students a lot of tools to succeed.
He is one of the best english professors I ever had. During the class time I felt like I wasn't learning anything, and at the end I realized that I learned so much :D I was even able to join the Honors program at school. He is an A+++ teacher. Thanks for all your commitment, and your help.
He is extremely unclear and makes up assignments on the spot, they never ever make sense and when he does try to explain it, he just goes in circles trying to make it clear. He doesn't know how to give simple and clear instructions.
My second time around with this professor. He is extremely helpful. His teaching method and feedback are both very encouraging. I highly recommend taking an English course from him.
Very nice and fun guy. He taught me a lot! I actually write better now and enjoy it! The only thing i didnt like is that he drags on when talking after we've already understood his point. Still, i really recommend him!
His teaching methodology is amazing. Just following the assignments, my essays have been enormously improved, and I've changed to enjoy writing. I still don't know how this happened. His responses and reviews are in time and helpful.
Amazing teacher. Hands down my favorite professor. I really wished he taught English 1B, I would have paid twice the amount that each unit costs to take his class!
This teacher gives a lot of work, but it's so easy to pass his class! Take him, you won't regret it. Only downfall about his class is the Thursday class 1:30-3:30 but he also let's you out early sometimes.
Confusing and frustrating online class parameters. Take his in-person class, far easier to understand. Do not take him online.
Take Him!!!! The total grade is dominated by ESSAYS. His class is excellent, funny and though-provoking. Many extra credits that really bust up your grade. Also he's really helpful and patient with students'questions. Show your passion, and he would guide you doing the meaningful work in college.
he is easy going and willing to answer all questions. His class is doable. 60% of overall grade is based on 3 essays. no actual in class essay, however there are about 10 in class journals (easy). an easy quiz at the beginning of each class too.
This is a fairly easy class. I took it in the summer so the material was rushed but still doable. You have to stay on top of the online work bc the assignments pile up easily. None of them are difficult. Essays are straight forward. His feedback is very helpful. Need to come in class 23 times. If you are unorganized, probably avoid this class.
He is hands down the best english teacher that I've ever taken. I always hated writing essays, but after learning from him, i enjoy writing essays now. He always super helpful if you show initiative. He's a very chill lay back teacher, who focuses more on learning than just getting an A. Definitely taking him for all future english courses.
Horribly tough grader for an online course. Rude and assigned way too much work.
He was not clear on guidelines and assigned a lot of busy work. I never was sure of what he expected of me and my essay grades fluctuated even though I felt all my work was of the same quality. I tried e-mailing him a few questions and he was so unclear when he responded that it left me as confused as when I started.
I don't know what the previous 2 ratings are talking about. This is my take - Prof. Lewis was very clear about how to do well on this class and what to read. He sets you up with the material and work that helps you prepare for the upcoming essay. He gave strong feedback and responded to my messages immediately. I am satisfied and I would recommend!
Professor Lewis is incredibly helpful and really cares about his students. It's been 3 years since I had his class and I still use some of the techniques he showed us to be a better writer and reader.
Took his online class. I was pretty confused about the structure of the class at the beginning, but going into his office hours really helped. He is SO nice and wants you to pass. Definitely taking him for English 1B.
Mr. Lewis is awesome! Nice guy who is willing to work one on one with students. He really cares about everyones grades
Never taken his class, but he is the best tutor other than Mrs. Katie over in Teaching Learning Center(TLC) He gives people useful help and get directly into the point! 30 mins session are always efficient with him! LOVE HIM! Ask for him if you need help in the TLC.
Brian was an amazing professor. I took him for ENG1S & 1T. He truly cares about his student's success and cares about your opinion. I was incredibly lucky to have him as a professor! Not only did I learn about English, but I learned about the injustices of juvenile delinquency and sociology. We got to tour Hillcrest Juvenile Detention Facility!!
I am currently taking this course during the summer. It is fast paced but Mr. Lewis makes the information clear and is extremely organized with a weekly outline of what to expect. I don't care for the Portfolio section just seem repetitive and busy work. Added me last minute very nice and responsive. lots of Essays all Comprehensive system
Best Set up and approach so far out of the 3 English courses at this college. I have had two other professors and they were decent people but awful instructors with unrealistic expectations. Mr. Lewis, helped me to remember why English is worth the effort and find enjoyment in English again. He should train the English Dept.
I took Brian Lewis for the online graphic novel class. Good choice of reading material. He is an extremely fast and thoughtful grader. Our out-of-class essay and final were graded VERY quickly, and he gave a video screen cast of how we did in the course and feedback on our essay. Very surprised he put so much effort into grading. Take him!!!
I took English 1A and 1B with Professor Lewis and it was the best online class experience ever. He is super understanding (with assignments) , flexible, and responds to emails quick. He understands students have an outside life as well and is an easy grader. There are MANY discussions, reading journals, and essays, but hey, it is an English class.
This summer I took Professor Lewis' ENGL1B class which is condensed into 6 wks. As long as you take the time to do work everyday, you will be on track and will have no problems in getting a good grade. Professor Lewis was extremely patient, understanding, and helpful which I really appreciate in a professor. I definitely recommend him for ENGL.
Brian Lewis is a solid choice. He's a really cool dude and down to Earth, and will give you great feedback if you ask for it (especially if you come in office hours). Flexible on homework. The only issue I had is the sheer mass of BS assignment he had us do--from meaningless readings to "reflections." If you don't mind that TAKE HIM!
I took 1A&1B with professor Brian, he is absolute an easy grader. If you show him your attitude, you will get an A. Also, if you did all your works, he'll give you extra credit, SO NICE!! Five essays and one final reflection. (If you are bad at essay, it's okay!!!!JUST show him your IMPROVEMENT!!!!) Many discusses no mini words give full credit!
Great teacher has passion for the subject matter. Very personable.
I took Professor Lewis English 1B Sifi online class. I never cared for SiFi movies, books, or anything SiFi, until this class. The course opened my eyes too many great things. The readings are interesting. What I liked most was I didn't have to do group work. I also liked that he gave plenty of time to finish the assignments before testing.
I went to TLC to get help from Prof. Lewis. He was so helpful and gave me fantastic suggestions. Hope the teachers of my other classes are all like him.
I took Brian's English 1A class, Spring 2019. If you're someone who is constantly late, or doesn't show up to class... don't even bother, you won't pass! There was A LOT of reading and even more writing, but overall I really enjoy the way he teaches. He is very helpful and very understanding. I would definitely recommend him.
Brian is a wonderful professor and very passionate about teaching. He creates a stress-free class environment and even tries hard to learn everyone's names by the first week. Although this course wasn't easy, as long as you do what is required, he will give you credit. Will definitely take him again!
This dude is the real deal. I took his class for credits and was not looking forward to it because I've always hated English-or so I thought. His presentations draw you in and he speaks with such enthusiasm and wants everyone to do well. The essays were pretty basic, it is simple to get an A if you follow the rubric and check in with him.
I took this class for an English requirement, but I actually ended up loving it. It was fun and entertaining. The material instructed to read was interesting and the teacher was really understanding. I feel like I actually learned something from this class.
The BEST professor I've ever had! He's friendly, approachable, helpful, and caring. He works hard to create a stress-free environment and just wants everyone to enjoy the class. Do the homework and essays and you will get an easy A! Take him!!!!
Lewis was really kind and encouraged alternative learning styles. I took a online class with him and it was one of my favorite classes ive ever taken. We were encouraged to use our imaginations and our creativity to excel in class. He is also very understanding, make sure to keep the lines of communication open with him and he will work with you.
Professor Lewis is great! I took him my first quarter into college. The workload is typical for an English class. It is about 1-3 discussion post every week and about 5 essay for the entirety of the quarter. He gives great feedback. You can tell he actually cares.
Professor Lewis is a really nice guy, and genuinely tries to make class engaging. For Sci-Fi Lit, there is a reading journal due every week, and a final essay, along with a reflection. As long as you keep up and participate in the discussions, you'll be fine. And the readings were all interesting there was a mix of comics, films, and novels.
Prof. Lewis is flexible and accommodating and sends reminders for your missing tasks. Does not take away points for late submissions and grades based on the submitted work. Awesome professor !
Professor Lewis is the nicest instructor EVER! This class was so much fun with all the reading and journals, and you even get to grade other students' essays towards the end of the course! He's a super easygoing and funny individual, so I really felt at ease in this class.
Personable and the way he graded was reasonable. He was very clear with his instructions as well.
Brian Lewis is an interesting professor, while not at all difficult for English speaking writers, his English 1A class was filled with many who have never written in English before. There are many essays, however he gives amazing feedback on the essays and isn't tough on grades. His class uses a sociology textbook as a material to write.
I never liked English class until I entered Brian Lewis's class. I wasn't a strong writer or reader. But with his help and feedback, I was able to improve each essay. Even after completing his class, he was still reaching out to me on campus and asking how my other classes were going. He's a great professor.
It was difficult navigating his canvas. He seems passionate about the subject and caring. Allows late work and there is opportunity for extra credit. Sentence exercises were confusing and you won't know if you got them right. Very possible to earn an A, but I can't say that I learned very much. Complete the work, you should pass.
I was not a very good writer before taking this class, but after this class, I feel that my writing skills have improved a lot because the professor will give me very detailed feedback every time ! This is my most fulfilling lesson so far!
Amazing professor! Gives great feedback on essays. His canvas is pretty disorganized though, so make sure to go through his modules and understand what's happening because it can be confusing at times (looking at the canvas calendar helps too). He does peer reviews for essays which is super helpful. As long as you do all assignments, you'll pass :)
Really enjoyed this class! Definitely time intensive but fair grader and interesting open-ended prompts. 6 total essays with small assignments due in between. Professor Brian truly cares about his students and wants them to thrive. Canvas can be disorganized, but if you have any questions he is very responsive via email and has office hours.
The amount of work might be overwhelming, but it's really good practice. Be prepared to write and read (articles, a book, etc.) a lot! This course uses sociology as a topic for basically all of the essays, so don't be surprised! An A is achievable since he is lenient on deadlines. The structure of the course is a bit confusing so take your time!
BEST PROFESSOR IVE TAKEN SO FAR!!! He's extremely caring and kind. I genuinely enjoyed this class. He's great at giving feedback. You do have to write a lot but he is very lenient and understanding, you just have to communicate. If you're doubting whether to take his course or not, DO IT!!!
If you have an interest in science fiction literature take his class as the resources that he chooses are actually interesting. There are also 6 essays in total. In each reading you need to create a journal for what you read, a paragraph summarizing then another to analyze it. Canvas unorganized. Easy grader & accepts late work without losing points
Professor Lewis is the best English professor I've ever had. His class is a lot of work, but it's well worth it; truly a life-changing experience for me. You can tell that he genuinely cares about his students as well. Great guy, excellent class.
I learned a lot from Prof. Lewis' class and really enjoyed his style, feedback, and inspiration. I came out of the class more confident with my writing, analysis, and communication. He is definitely worth taking and I look forward to taking in for English 1B.
Be ready for overloaded work! If you are taking a late-start class for ENGL 1B by Professor Lewis, and you know you are a slow writer, it would be better if you drop this class or your schedule is not packed.
Did sentence structure exercises and never received the answers to know if we did the assignment correctly. I met with him for office hours, though very kind, his feedback was very vague as to what he was looking for. His canvas setup was also very confusing and seemingly disorganized. Didn't find his class helpful at all, but seemed to grade easy.
A very knowledgeable professor! Even though the workload each week was immense due to summer session only being 6 weeks in length, Professor Lewis always sent clear update emails during this asynchronous course, and posts audio feedback for essays. Would highly recommend if you want to improve your writing skills and learn more about sociology!
Highly recommend to take this course with Professor Lewis.
Amazing professor and cares a lot about his students!!! His class is A LOT of work tho
I took Prof Lewis async during spring quarter after the pandemic began. Despite being a late start course with a bunch of content, expectations were clear enough and he was understanding. I really liked the sci-fi focus and the audio feedback is legit. There is a lot of essay content as expected, so stay on top of the work.
Professor Lewis is a great teacher who is enthusiastic about what he teaches. His class is interesting and he cares about his students and wants to set them up for future success. Although there is a lot of work in the beginning, he is a fair grader and if you put in the effort and stay up to date on the assignments, you will get a good grade.
Brian Lewis is the BEST PROFESSOR I have ever had in Foothill college. As long as you finish his homework and do good on the essays, you will go good in his class. I highly recommend you to take Brian Lewis for English.
Lewis is a great professor! There is a total of 6 essays. All are sci fi, which is what I found to be difficult, personally. He gives great feedback and you can tell he cares. Stay on top of due dates, upload work to portfolio(he creates this) and make an outline for all essays. Be organized and you will succeed in his class.
3 timed essays 3 week long essays each essay is 6-8 paragraphs ranging from 1,000-2,000 words required One 400-page book 1-3 reading journals per week Extra credit up to 5% Best prof. I've ever had
So glad I took this prof. His focus is to improve the process of reading and writing which has helped in all of my classes. The sci-fi theme is super fun and relevant. He gives great feedback and is incredibly caring. Class is designed with lots of tasks, but each task accelerates the process and if you do them all, there are extra points built in.
No one will care for you as much as prof. Lewis does. That doesn't mean there won't be PLENTY of work to do though. If you came to school to actually learn, then this class will teach you EVERYTHING you need to know about the subject. Good luck and I do recommend.
Professor Brian Lewis was absolutely amazing. This was my first class back after a brief hiatus and I could not have been more lucky to receive a great professor. He is very understanding and patient. He really wants to see his students succeed.
Lewis has specific expectations regarding his essay format. If it does not follow his paragraph structure, then you are marked down. Discussion assignments - some placed into a specific discussion. Some essays are timed, but enough time is allowed. Portfolio is discussion of assignments. Worth a lot of credit helps your understanding of topics.
His ratemyprofessor ratings are very confusing. I would recommend not taking his classe. The assignments and essay he posts are very unclear and terrible. The course load for this class could be considered a 2.5 course. Please do not take him because of this confusing rating! Remember This is a false rating!
Lots of reading and journaling, so there's work, but it's worth it. "This is a reading class." Enjoyable class, work is a little bit time consuming but not difficult, and grading is very relaxed. "No stress final" and final essay were easy. Learned about the history of graphic novels, which was interesting. Overall great teacher and great class.
Professor Lewis really cares about his students!! He took extra time to help me get through the class. Amazing lectures and videos. Tons of reading for this class (5 books), but to be fair, they were picture books with no words. Lots of writing but very little structure, so you can do it however you wanted! Best class ever! Def taking again!
Prof Lewis gives AMAZING feedback on your papers. He leaves a short video with your grade discussing what you did well and what you could improve on. Grading criteria is very clear. The essay prompts allowed for some freedom in what you could write about, which made the class more enjoyable for me. Would take again!
The lectures were exciting. His canvas page was a bit unorganized and difficult to find, but he did upload all the reading material, so you didn't have to buy it. Papers were heavy, and he was vague when answering questions. Somewhat of a generous grader, but this class was more of a headache than an enjoyment.
The organization was so confusing. The class is entirely on science fiction and the questions are difficult to answer. It's easy to pass but honestly too much work for a GE english class. 5 essays 1 reflective final
I took ENGL 1A and ENGL 1B Class was interesting. 5 papers, discussions, final, extra credit Professor was really rude, sarcastic, and degrading Leaves feedback but in emails or office hours he can get annoyed and disrespectful. Slow grader. When I asked about not seeing a grade for one of my early essays at the end he "pushed me to the back"
Brian Lewis is overall a great teacher, but I will say get ready to write a lot. Those who leave negative reviews were just probably not ready to try in a college level English class. While some writings are hard, you will ultimately leave the class a much better writer and you won't regret the hard work you put into the class.
Prof Brian is an amazing & inspirational mentor. I learnt a lot in his class. His course for 1B was very engaging, informational and in sync with current times. Interesting SciFi reads, movies, plays - to write about. Participation is the key, then Prof Brian will go out of his way to help the student. Take him. He is a gem of a mentor for life!
ENGL 1A in fall 2022 and ENGL 1B in winter 2023. Both classes were really informative and expanded my writing skills. Interesting readings and good class structure. It could get a little disorganized but anyone familiar with Canvas should have no problem. Main complaint would be the professor. He was somewhat rude and not very present. Extra credit
Prof Lewis' class is not going to be easy but he will give you great feedback on all your essays. He gives more feedback than I have ever received which I appreciate since he wants us to all go far with our skills. Overall I did well and I am sure you will be too! Will definitely take a professor Lewis course again
He gives really good feedback as well as video feedback on essays! If you are serious about your writing skills take Lewis' class! He will make you a better student
Professor Lewis runs a challenging but rewarding class. The sci-fi focus is engaging, and his feedback is invaluable. Stay organized, use unstuck AI for study prep, and you'll do well. Not an easy A, but worth the effort.
If you want a professor that cares about your work, take prof. lewis! He genuinely reads your work and gives great feedback. He is super helpful and wants you to succeed.
Brian is a great instructor who genuinely cares about his students and their learning. He replies back within a day or two. He provides detailed video feedback on papers and offers extra credit. The class is manageable as long as you put in some basic effort, and the final isn't stressful. Just be sure to learn how canvas works. Highly recommend!
Professor Brian is a great teacher! Extremely engaging class with lots of low stakes group work. Lots of opportunities for extra credit. Extremely clear grading criteria and class/syllabus organization. Put effort into all the work and you'll be good.
He is an awesome professor and I encourage everyone to take him if you don't mind writing 6 essays during the quarter. He provides really nice feedback, so it's easy to get an A. He checks for AI, so be prepared. 2 essays are timed, but you write at home. After the class, I felt like I can write anything on any matter without much effort. 10/5
amazing prof w/ a journalistic focus. we wrote 5 essays in one quarter, all framed around a subject matter of ur choosing. loads of homework but accepts late work until the end of the unit, & even past that! struggled w/ personal stuff & turned in an essay super late-- always very understanding and gave me full credit. he cares, just communicate.
was challenging at first but then once understood the course was a lot smoother of a class
I've been thinking about it, and I really have no bad things so say about Professor Lewis. He's a great English teacher who in my experience was always available if I needed help or encouragement. If you want to hone your skills and receive personalized feedback, take this class.
