Easy going and laid back. Class is super simple and easy. Nice guy to talk to. Don't buy book. All notes posted online. Uses a lot of videos and graphics to lecture with. I recommend.
This class was super easy and super boring. He posts notes and lectures online. You never have to go to class. Rec is pointless unless there is a quiz, which is usually just attendance points. He lets you do a huge bonus project at the end of the quarter that can boost your grade a whole letter.
This professor doesn't know what it means to use a scientific source. He claims NewYorkTimes.com is a great source of scientific knowledge and during the first week of class explained to us all why human blood is blue. I expected much more from a Biochemist. Dr. Lower's the kind of shock and awe professor that gives earth scientists a bad name.
Excellent Professor! Go to class and study notes = A
B Low is the man! He understands most people are taking this class just to get an A. Make minimal effort and you will get an A.
Dr. Lower is the man. All lecture materials online, and he knows students are just taking this for a GEC. Even in spite of this, he manages to provide an engaging experience on lots of interesting topics. Tests aren't hard at all. Take this class!
Everything is on Carmen. His tests are very easy. I would highly recommend taking this class!
Very easy class and everything is on Carmen, you even talk about some interesting topics in class! Highly recommend
Doc Low is awesome! The class overall is easy but the exams are definitely tricky. Put some time into studying for the exams and it is a pretty easy A! He gives a ton of bonus points!
Awesome class, easy, but interesting too. Genuinely cares about his students. Dr. Lower does a great job of incorporating videos, graphics and current topics in his lectures and I definitely recommend his intro to environmental science course.
I thought the tests were quite difficult- however, I never attended class and didn't realize that all info comes from class slide- powerpoint till it was too late. That being said I still managed a B even with a 65 on the first two midterm. So the class is somewhat easy- study slides on carmen!!!!
Overall, ENR 2100 was pretty easy. Dr. Lower seems to get side tracked a lot and a good amount of his exam questions are from PBS videos. He is very helpful when it comes to uploading lectures online etc. The main thing he is worried about is the short-format article which everyone gets an A on if the effort is made. Overall, pretty good class.
Dr. Lower is an extremely nice and reasonable guy, plus knowledgeable about the course materials. You don't really have to go to class 80% of the time but I actually chose to more often than not because I thought his class was really interesting.
Incredibly easy, and interesting. He tries very hard to give out A's. I recommend
His quizzes are simple questions that usually doesn't even have to do about what we are learning. The tests are all online, and he grades the final poster presentation super easy as long as you complete it and have some sort of knowledge on the subject. He often gives out bonus points usually for class attendance. He is very nice and understanding.
Great guy, easy class, easy class. He gives some many extra credit points for attending the class.
The class was relatively easy; all tests/quizzes are administered online. Lecture attendance is not mandatory, but you will get some generous bonus points for attending.
He's the man
Best, nicest, and most understanding professor I've had yet. He let's you take all exams online and he boosted all of our grades by 30 points on one of them after he realized some people couldn't download the picture files. I would definitely highly recommend him
Online exams and a poster. Attendance bonus. No textbook required. He gave a lot of useful websites and tools to knowledge you what is going on in the world. Basically, he is just trying his best to help you get an A. But I heard that this semester he sets the class harder than last semester.
Brian is everything you could ask for in an instructor. He's fair, smart, funny, and cooperative. He understands that this might not be your favorite class and won't be a huge time commitment for those uninterested. He did a good job of making me, and English major, care about environmental topics. He made it an enjoyable semester.
Dr. Lower is a nice guy and he is definitely fair. However I was DUPED into believing its easy. Its not. The exam questions are all over the place, very hard and strategic, and you only get 1 hour for 45 questions. Take at your own risk!
If you like having any idea what class expectations are, how to prepare for tests, and not being lied to about assignment requirements, save your sanity and avoid this class. He is also extremely boring and managed to take a subject I care about (I'm working towards a minor in this department) and leave me feeling indifferent and apathetic about it
Cool professor and excellent class! Prof. Lower was very fair and easy going. I enjoyed going to class even though he didn't take attendance. No textbook needed.
greatest professor ever!
Doc Lower's course hit me right in the feels
Great Teacher!
Dr. Lower is a fantastic professor and very fair. He keeps the material interesting and relevant. Quizzes and exams are online. Quizzes are really easy and exams can have difficult questions so it is good to look over the notes that he posts on Carmen first. COME TO CLASS because he gives bonus point information! No textbook needed. Great class!
He has such an awesome class!! Dr. Lower is able to help you learn a lot and keep you interested at the same time. Definitely recommend it!
Extra credit for showing up to class, online and open book quizzes and exams, plus all lecture slides posted to carmen. He gets that people are there for an easy A in a Gen Ed science and wants you to get it as much as you do.
Probably the easiest class I've taken so far. Lectures are optional but he gives tons of extra credit for attending . One project where you have to make a poster and present at a symposium, but overall it really isn't a lot of work. Both tests are online and open book. I would definitely recommend this GE to non-science majors.
Great class. Jut go to class and pay attention and you'll be able to tell what's on the exam. I took his class in the fall so we had a poster project. It was kind of annoying but I'd rather do that instead of a test.
There are not too many professors I would say are great but Dr. Lower is one of them. I rarely went to class, and I still pulled a B. The exams are very difficult BUT he gives an insane amount of extra credit. He understands that most are taking his class because they have to. I definitely reccommend.
Amazing class!
Brian Lower is one of the best professors at OSU. This class is an easy A. He gives extra credit for showing up to class sometimes and all of the exams are online. We also had to write a scientific journal article that I'm pretty sure everyone got a 100% on. He also gave everyone a 100% on the final as long as they went and saw Jack Hanna speak.
Brian is awesome. He realizes most people don't actually care about the subject but makes it interesting. He even makes it kind of funny and makes fun of himself. You have a few online quizzes, 3 online tests, and a large poster symposium. Poster is easy he explains it perfectly. Very nice guy if you talk to him, would take again.
Recommend to everyone!
Dr. Lower is awesome! Great class for all students to take. He gives out a lot bonus and genuinely wants his students to do well in his class.
Brian Lower is a funny guy that is genuinely interested in teaching. He gives out a lot of bonus points, and he's willing to negotiate grades. He cracks a few jokes during lecture, and he's cool with answering questions beforeafter class. This was a really easy class, yet I still learned quite a bit. Lots of videos were used as well.
Awesome professor with an very rare gift for teaching college students. He's not like most science profs who show up to class because because the university makes them. Gives A LOT of bonus points (ended with an 89 but got a 96). Go to class and you wont have to read at all, but even if you don't go to class, he posts the lecture slides online.
His class really makes me care more about environmental issues. Lectures are very organized. He is very clear about the grading criteria, so as long as you follow the instructions you'll receive good grades on your assignments. And not to mention, go to lectures and you'll get tons of extra credits!
Great GE Science. Easy A if you just do the requirements and extra credit options.
Brian is a great professor. He leaves all the tools to get an A online, but will reward you with extra credit for coming to the lectures. You can tell he really cares about what he's teaching and he cares about his students. As long as you complete everything for this class it should be an easy A.
Willing to help students and is passionate about what he teaches. Wants students to succeed and take away something from the class.
Brian Lower is the best professor I have ever had. He will do everything in his power to make you succeed. If you need a science credit, take him! If you go to class you will get an A.
I'd recommend this class to everyone! Awesome!
Really helpful and funny professor. Lectures were really interesting and although not mandatory, extra credit is regularly given out for those who attend lecture. Grading is also rather lenient. I thought I was going to get around a 90 in the class, and somehow came out with a 98. I would recommend this class for a GE.
Dr Lower gives a lot of attendance extra credit, so come to class even if you don't pay attention. The poster project is a guaranteed 95% or higher if you do it. I would say this is an easy A class if it weren't for the quizzes/exams. They're online and open note, but the questions are tough. It also doesn't tell you which ones you got wrong.
Never seen a teacher give so much extra credit. Finished with a 90 but got over 98% w/ extra credit. Often gives bonus points for the "question of the day" in class (which he gives answer to) so you can probably skip as long as you have friend to let you know the answer. Spends first half hour of every class talking about poster that's pretty easy
Dr. Lower is THE MAN! He made class fun and interesting with videos and graphs. There is so much extra credit during the semester too that it's almost impossible to fail this class. I learned a ton from him and I would definitely recommend this class.
This class is very interesting. I show up to class and listen to his lectures and that is all you need. You will learn interesting things, get extra credit "A LOT of it" and be prepared for the exams. Scientific paper was easy. I do recommend you go to class. I was taking a lot of difficult classes and managed to get A- by always attending class.
This class is really cool and fun. He talks about a lot of relevant issues and that's pretty awesome. Go to class, even though it really isn't mandatory, he ALWAYS gives out extra credit, and 10% extra cred on your final grade can mean a lot. Plus, it really helps on the midterm (where I heard people didn't do well).
Dr. Lower is a great professor. The class itself is easy for those with prior knowledge, but even those without will do well as long as you attend class. Extra credit is random, but easy, and the paper assignment is easy. Midterm and Final are the easiest I've ever taken here.
A ton of extra credit. Easy grading on the research paper. A lot of interesting information and subjects.
Dr. Lower is a great prof. His lectures can get borings at parts, but this is an easy A class for a GE. If you need a GE class pick this one with Brian Lower-you won't regret it.
Super chill dude. Relaxed lectures. You don't have to go but you get extra credit if you do. All the tests and quizzes are online outside of class. Have to write one thousand word paper over the semester and only two tests. 10/10 would recommend for a GE class
A lot extra credits
Prof. Lower is just an amazing guy. He actively accepts that people only take his class to fulfill the GE, but hopes to teach something in the process. Honestly, I came to lectures even though you could totally skip them all. Partially because he offers a TON of EC for just showing up, but his lectures are genuinely interesting. TAKE THIS COURSE!
His ENR2100 class was an easy one to take to fill a GE requirement. Tests and quizzes are all online and you have two attempts to complete quizzes if you don't do well the first time. If you do watch the lectures and pay marginal attention to them, tests are easy. One major writing project but it's mostly graded on completion. Lots of extra credit.
Very clear grading. Don't have to buy the book.
Dr. Lower has been one of my favorite professors so far at OSU! He is extremely knowledgeable of the subject matter and makes his lectures interesting incorporating lots of video clips and his own personal stories. If you go to class you DON'T need to by the book! Also gives out a lot of extra credit! Easy A! Would highly recommend!
Dr. Lower is the best! The midterm and final are online and open note. There's one research paper but it's not bad at all. There are a few online quizzes that are also open note and easy. He's a really good teacher and super friendly and funny. His lectures are informative, and you don't need the textbook. I would definitely take his class again.
Online weekly quizzes easy, extra credit offered in class (must be there to get it). Project not too difficult, but annoying to present. Online exams are ridiculously hard compared to study guide and lectures. Makes it seem like exams will be basic, but they ask crazy specific details. Need to pay attention in class to do well. Accessible.
Dr. Lower is great. He's passionate about the course. He really wants students to succeed, shown by the 9.5% extra credit available and how he uses real videos/articles to supplement his lectures. Online midterm and final, as well as online quizzes and a poster project. Textbook is optional. Going to most of his lectures is necessary to do well.
Great professor. He clearly loves what he teaches and wants students to love it as well. Offers plenty of extra credit, so it's easy to focus on learning the material for your own education rather than stressing about grades. Exams are much harder than the rest of the class would seem to indicate, but not too bad if you go to class and do the work.
Worst professor ever. I have to write about 3000 words for a single homework, which is assigned every week?? and one quiz per week??
Great class, took it 8 weeks over the summer. Clear grading, easy to follow, you need to watch all the class lecture videos to do well. A lot of work for 8 weeks but manageable if you stay on top of everything. Study guides for exams really helped.
He's very knowledgeable about the subject matter he teaches, very straight forward about his expectations, tailors his lectures to current events, & the things you learn in this class are important for everyday life. There is a ton of extra credit opportunities offered and take advantage of them all because the exams are VERY hard. Easy A overall
Great professor. He made a subject that I didn't care about interesting to me. A large portion of your grade is off of one easy semester-long project. I would definitely recommend this class if you need a natural science credit.
He is such a funny guy and a great professor! He gives out extra credit all the time so you should go to the lectures. He usually ends class early too. There's one project you have to do but it's not very hard. The quizzes and exams are online and open note. They are kind of difficult, but not that bad. If you go to class, you're going to pass.
Dr Lower cares about his students success, and knows that many of the people taking his class are not scientists. Weekly quizzes but you are given two attempts to take it. No papers except for an article you work on throughout the semester. Attendance is not mandatory but extra credit is given when you do. Would highly recommend his class!
Brian Lower acknowledges that most students will not show up to class, so he rewards those who do with quiz answers and lots of extra credit. Really good guy, and his lectures are actually really interesting. I didn't go to every class, but I enjoyed the ones i went to because he delivers the material in a way that makes you want to learn.
Lots of extra points given. Only negative I would say is that midterms are harder than he makes them out to be, so study for that. Other than that, barely any work required. He's so funny, definitely a good GE.
Great professor who really care about our grades! Just a few online quizzes and a paper except the midterm and final. All the quizzes and tests are online and you can use your notes during the test! Lots of extra credit if you come to the class! Overall, he is an excellent professor and you will get an A if you take some time to write the paper.
Dr. Lower acknowledges that most people are just taking this class for the GE credit, so he makes the class entirely manageable. As long as you do the work and follow the grading instructions its an easy A. Only one paper, a few online quizzes, a midterm, and a final (all open notes). He gives out a lot of ec if you come to class
Simply put: Dr. Lower is the man and you need to take him. Easy class, clearly enjoys what he does, and wants you to do well. Pretty much everything is online, do average on the midterms, write the paper on time, show up to class every so often for the extra credit and you will get an A. Unlike most professors, he wants you to get an A.
He is understanding that students have a life outside of class. His lectures are fun and enjoyable. He really makes you care about the subject. He hands out a lot of extra credit just for going to lecture on Fridays. He puts everything up on Carmen right away. There's only the one big poster project and tests and quizzes are all online.
Lectures never took the full time and were very interesting. He cares a lot about the environment and educating us about it. A great prof who understands we are not all science majors, the final paper took time but was doable. Midterms were a little tricky but were open note, much extra credit was offered throughout the course. Easy A!
He is kind and caring! Extra credits are given for attendance. Quizzes are not hard to get full points if you read and watch those given materials. No textbook is needed! His slides are clear and informative! Definitely will take again!
Took the class online, but Dr. Lower was still very communicativecessible to all his online students. He is so understanding & helpful. Online, we took weekly quizzes (2 attempts, easy As) & 2 exams (kinda tough, but open-note & given a lot of time. Do take notes and study to do well on them). Poster project was kinda tough, but TAs were helpful
He's super nice and really wants you to do well. Gives a TON of extra credit. Pretty interesting material and you can tell he's passionate about the subject. Show up to the lectures and you will get extra credit. Midterm and Final online and open note. Quizzes are pretty easy and you have multiple attempts. Great for an easy science credit!
Dr. Lower is a great professor who clearly has a passion for environmental science. Class was always interesting and extra credit was offered frequently. The midterm and final were tricky, but understandably so considering they were open-note. The poster project was very enjoyable. You get out of this class what you put into it. Would recommend!!
Academically, this class was a bit of a joke. Lower hands out extra credit like Oprah, and the homework assignments (online quizzes and a couple of small assignments) are a piece of cake. You get multiple attempts on the quizzes. The only somewhat tough part was the final poster, but he gives you a ton of time to work on it. Dr. Lower was great!
Really had to work my butt off for my A. The whole course changed. Big poster project and the lectures are very lengthy and heavy. The midterm and final exam are NO JOKE. STUDY.
The lectures may be boring for non science majors but he tries to make them interesting. Lecture slides and study guides are posted so class isn't mandatory to pass but he gives extra credit almost every class that gets added to the midterm/final and its worth it.. his test are HARD. semester long project/quizzes can be time consuming but easy.
Dr. Lower is a great professor. He gives out tons of extra credits for almost every course to boost up our grades for midterm and final exams. The exams are hard, but after the extra credits he provided, they go up at least one letter grade. He is caring and nice to all students.
Lower says its online optional but you really should go to class. Youll get extra credit if you go and the final and midterm wont be as difficult since youve seen the info before. Dont just jump into the midterm and final without skimming the slides first.
Dr. Lower is super nice and his class is incredibly easy. I did not go to one lecture and I ended the course with a B. If you go to lecture, tons of extra credit is offered (I mean like every single day). Do the assignments, check the carmen announcement every week, and you'll be more than fine.
Dr. Lower is an awesome professor. He makes the class very easy and if you show up to lecture, you should get an A with all the extra credit he offers. There is little homework to do but there is one project throughout the semester.
Dr. Lower is the best professor I have had at OSU. His class is extremely well organized, and the lectures are interesting. He wants his students to succeed, so he has a lot of extra credit opportunities to help boost your grade. In the class you'll have to write a short scientific article (done in part), take two exams and 5 quizzes.
Literally, this man goes out of his way to make sure you pass this class with an A he gives extra credit out the wazoo if you want an easy A this is the class and professor for you
There are plenty of opportunities for extra credit, but he has no care for his students. The lectures barely correspond with the tests and youre stuck looking up answers on the internet for obscure bits of information he mentioned once but never said again. Its an easy A if you come to class and have perfect memory of every minuscule bit of info
great class, easy going professor, I learned a lot of really cool things, all lecture materials are provided for all classes including some notes, recommend this class to everyone!
A very well-organized professor and class. There's an insane amount of opportunities to get extra credit even in the online section. Other than quizzes, the only big assignment is a research poster that you work on throughout the semester, but it's split into chunks and very manageable.
He seems like a good teacher & most of my complaints are me-specific things. Online classes just aren't for me. Other than that, he's available and has everything up and running for students to take advantage of. One thing I'll say is that the midterm and final are kind of silly and hyper-specific b/c it's open book.
Very manageable class. There is very little homework other than a possible quiz or an addition to the poster project. The midterm and final are both online and open book. You can also get extra credit for attending on certain days. The poster symposium is very stress-free. Dr. Lower is also pretty funny and adds a lot of context to his lectures.
This class was very easy. It's lecture based, but he posts them online. Any tests are taken online before 11:59 PM (open-note). There's a final poster project that's due throughout the semester (Figures, Bibliography, Outline, Etc.). The only assignments besides that are a few NOVA videos with a quiz afterwards. Dr. Lower is funny and insightful.
A great professor. He is very clear with what is expected in the class and gives you all the tools to earn an A. One paper and two midterms that are not cumulative. Great class
He gives extra credit almost every class! The rest of the class relies on lecture and videos. Sometimes it gets a little boring, but he is obviously very passionate about what he teaches. Hes hilarious and always willing to help in case of a problem. The ScienceBite is crucial for your grade, but he helps you a lot with that!
This is my first time feeling the need to rate a professor, if that tells you anything.
Didn't attend class once but still received an A. The class wasn't worth my time because he couldn't focus on the slides and I basically learned nothing. The exams are all open note/book/internet so no complaints there BUT if you are genuinely looking to learn more about the environment, don't take the class with this professor.
didn't teach much and struggled to stay focused, very nice guy but not a very good professor
ENR2100 is a solid choice for a GE. Everything is open note and online. Classes are huge but all notes, lectures, etc are online and available. It is very easy to get in touch with the TA/Dr Lower. Also gives bonus points if you actually show up because its technically not necessary
Lecture attendance isn't required, but it was nice to get bonus points for attending. The material was easy but interesting. If you are pursuing ENR, I would take it with a different professor that gives more of a challenge or goes more in depth. The only aspect of the class I didn't enjoy was the ScienceBite article which was a bit time-consuming.
Dr. Lower's lectures are very good with detailed explanations that are simple to understand. You also can get extra credit for attending. The class does have some assignments (ScienceBite Article) that will require you to put effort in though, but the TAs, offer great feedback. Plus, the class material is engaging as well.
Does not hold office hours and instead relies on his undergraduate T.A.s to grade papers and provide extra help. Tough poster assignment and hard quizzes/exams constitute most of one's grade. Extremely difficult introductory course as the poster assignment requires original figures and scientific methods knowledge.
Midterm was 25% of the final grade for this online class, and it was extremely difficult and unlike any of the study materials. Extra credit barely made a difference, and this professor is not empathetic to difficulties submitting an assignment. My exam timed out and he gave no opportunity to make it up or get points back for technical difficulties
THE TESTS DO NOT CORRESPOND WITH ANY OF THE MATERIALS GIVEN FOR CLASS. EXPECTS STUDENTS TO PRODUCE ORIGINAL FIGURES FOR SCIENTIFIC STUDIES THEY DID NOT CONDUCT IN A GE COURSE
I strongly regret taking his class. He is a tough grader and expects too much from his students when most of us don't understand what is going on. The exams are extremely hard and drop your grade down a significant amount even though we all studied the study guide, which was nothing like the exam. The extra credit does not help and project awful
I really liked taking this class. As long as you turned in all of the homework, it is very easy to get an A. The assignments were also explained thoroughly so it was easy to find out what you had to do for each one.
The biggest grades are 2 exams and a poster project. They are all incredibly easy, just take some time and reading. His lectures are pretty dry and repetitive. I personally wouldn't take it if I didn't have to. It's easy, and exams are open book. Again, boring but easy.
The quizzes and test were online but it was still hard.
A very dry lecturer and hard to pay attention in class. The poster you have to complete is time-consuming and a pain in the butt to complete. The midterm and final are challenging and the average is around a C. However, he offers a ton of extra credit which makes up for this.
I really enjoyed this class! Lectures could get boring, but there was usually in-class extra credit. The midterm was harder than I expected, but I got a C & a B on the final and still ended the class with an A. The quizzes are super easy, as well as open note/book like the exams. Poster project requires extra work but very possible to get a 100%
Easy A. Didn't even listen to lecture videos. I just went through the slides several times before exams got high scores on them which are open book. The paper homework is a little bit time-consuming, but it really broadened my view and taught me a lot. There are a Bunch of extra credits so if you study normally, not even hard, you should get an A.
Dr. Lowel is a great professor. I am not sure how this class was previously taught before going online but the class is greatly structured. Dr. Lowel makes the effort to give weekly explanations of every module. Has TONS of extra credit opportunities and his lecture slides have all the info needed to succeed.
I took this online class after a friend told me it was easy. It's hard to concentrate watching hours worth of pre-recorded lectures (I'm sure it is much more bearable in person according to other ratings). That being said, the exams were difficult, but the class really revolves around a semester-long project; it's not the worst, but time-consuming.
I suffered a concussion during the semester when taking Prof. Lower's class. He was easily the kindest and most helpful professor I had when it came to extensions on assignments and exams. The lectures can get boring pretty quickly, but watching them online rather than in person probably doesn't help that.
The prerecorded lectures are relatively boring unless youre really into Environmental Science (like I was). However, the poster project will teach you a lot if you actually put a little effort into it. He clearly wants students to do well, and gives a lot of extra credit. Overall, Id recommend him!
The class really is not exciting unless you love enviro science. But he gives so much extra credit that unless you have two brain cells firing, it would be hard to not get at least a B. The poster assignment is probably the most time consuming aspect but it is broken up into sections. Overall a 7/10 class and a 9/10 teacher.
This class was online and asynchronous, so I cant say much about Lower as a person, but he explains things pretty well in video lectures, although they could get pretty boring. He gives a lot of extra credit which is nice, although you definitely need it because the quizzes and exams are over the most specific minute details of the course.
There is a semester long poster project which is fun AS LONG as you choose a topic you're interested in. This is an easy class, except for the midterm and the final. The questions are completely unrelated to the lecture videos. They are open note, you can google things etc, but they are still very, very hard. Him and the TAs respond to emails ASAP.
Dr. Lower is very reachable, he often responds to emails in under 30 minutes. My issue with his course online is that the midterm and final had nothing to do with class content and were very difficult. Although difficult, they are open note so you can do well without knowing much. Overall, U wouldnt recommend it. Way too much work for a GE.
We have lectures each week, 10 really easy quizzes, and one big project (that is a lot of work). The final/midterm doesn't really relate to lectures and asks a lot of random questions, but we were allowed to use Google. He does give you lots of bonus points. Brian is very condescending in his email responses and makes you feel stupid.
Dr. Lower was extremely condescending and rude when I tried to ask for help outside of class. His class is mainly focused on the poster project. The quizzes are fairly simple, but they do not have anything to do with the lectures. Finals are a weird mix of random information that was quickly covered in lectures.
Video lectures are a bit boring, use 1.25 speed, but they cover most of what is on the exam (minus a couple Qs). The poster assignment was broken into 6 parts, all graded fairly, though they can be time consuming at first. There were 4 quizzes which are easy and the exams are open note/google allowed. Lots of EC and the TAs are really helpful.
great prof overall IF youre not lazy and willing to spend the allotted time on your poster assignment and lecture vids. theres extra credit... you will pass if you just TRY. even barely.
All I got to say is easy GE A!
Easy course. Straight to the point. No asking for extra thoughts or all that. Just pure science.
Highly recommend taking this class with Dr. Lower. He is phenomenal teacher and the workload is not bad at all. You get 2 attempts on each quiz, and on the midterm and final. One big poster project that you work on throughout the semester that is very manageable
What a horrible professor. They changed they class layout from previous years and added more assignments that arent intro course friendly. If you have any questions at all be prepared for belittlement. Our entire class was struggling on practically every assignment, messaging each other on our confusion of the assignments. Dont take this class.
Great online class. Do all of the assignments and you'll get an A. Easy turn-in process and accepts late submissions. Plus a TON of extra credit opportunities if you are falling behind.
This class was super easy. I would not recommend watching the pre-recorded lectures though, they're pretty boring and you don't need them to get a good grade. there's only one big project but if you stay on top of it during the semester you'll be fine
Great professor, easy class with a bit of work. If you give minimal effort you will surely do well in this class.
The lectures were not particularly interesting, but the tests were open note and pretty easy. Plus, there was ample extra credit if you turned assignments in on time. The most difficult part of the class was a poster assignment that took some time, but people mostly hated it because they did not expect any work in the class. It was not very hard.
The class was fully asynchronous. The main components of my grade were a project and the midterm/final. If you put the work into the project, you should get a good grade. The midterm and final are open notes. He gave a lot of extra credit. I ended with over a 100.
Eh. I love environmental science, I'm an EEDS major, and this prof really disappointed me. The assignments felt clunky and in many cases not based on lecture material, the lectures were incredibly boring, and prof was unhelpful and arrogant. Easy A, just don't expect him to be caring or thoughtful.
Really does everything he can to make the class doable for everyone. Very helpful and well set up online class.
Made the class simple. Good guy
Overall it was a very easy class. You have usually one thing to due a week. The midterm and final are open note and there is around 10 bonus points for each of them. There is a large course project that you have to complete that's worth a good chunk of your grade it's not too hard but don't procrastinate.
Very well organized class and easy to understand material. Dr. Lower was very accommodating all year and gives you plenty of chances to succeed. Highly recommend!
Quizzes are open book, open note, open internet. Lecture slides are easily available. The poster assignment that you work on throughout the semester is graded a lot harder than other things in the class. Not a bad class to take though.
He is a great guy and wants everyone to do well. Don't hesitate to reach out to him because he is really understanding and flexible.
The grading system is odd. So make sure to really complete all your assignments.
Dr. Lower clearly has a passion for environmental science that comes out in his lectures. The poster project that I completed in 2100 was one of my favorite projects I've ever done - if you like picking your own topic and researching, take this class. Exams worth 50% but all open note.
No one really cares about the environment. This class was a waste of time and the poster project was a waste of time. They actually think your future employer will make you do a poster. 70% of the exam questions are true and false questions and answers are not easily found in the lectures.
I took the asynchronous section of this course so I can't say I had direct contact with Dr. Lower himself, but the grading was clear and the class was easy. Poster project can be a bit of work and the lectures can get boring, however.
Took this class online with around 500 people. The lecture videos were fairly boring but the assignments were graded for participation or had clear rubrics. You work on the final scientific poster the whole semester and it can be difficult at times, but Dr. Lower was available to help and answered emails quickly. Exams were somewhat difficult.
Professor Lower is so nice and very passionate about the Earth. His lectures can be boring but the work is very easy. He is very approachable and cares about his students.
Dr. Lower is one of my favorite professors. He truly wants the best for his students and is passionate about the material. He is great at communication and what he expects from you. I loved his class and would absolutely recommend him.
Dr. Lower was extremely empathetic and nice. The assignments were only one a week and they are usually straightforward and easy. All exams were open book and the final project was gradual and completely manageable. The lectures were clear and comprehensible, but in no way mandatory. Would definitely take a class with him again.
The lecture videos don't cover everything in the slides (doesn't show all of them). Only interaction you would have with him is on the Q&A discussion board. He does respond in a timely manner, as do the TA's on emails. The class is big but the grades were so slow. We had 2(?) days from receiving feedback on our poster draft for the final pres.
This man was passionate about the environment, but had the most boring voice. I struggled to watch through entire lectures. For an introductory course, he expects too much commitment and expects us to spend double digit hours on research. He treated every student as if they were an ENR major, when in reality the class was only for gen - ed
Pretty easy class. Just consisted of a lecture and a quiz due each week. In addition, a few other more in depth assignments for the semester. Definitely would take again.
Super easy class. All answers to quizzes are online. You are allowed to use GPT as well, making this course max an hour per week of work. Super easy A.
Really boring but very easy class with very dry and long lectures. There's a poster project, I'd recommend just taking a safe and easy topic to make sure you can easily fulfill the grading criteria rather than doing something niche that you're personally into. Each quiz gets 2 tries and you can just skim the lecture videos as you take them.
Dr. Lower was a fair professor. Quizzes were not too bad, sometimes there was a question or two that was tricky. You got two tries for each quiz and Dr. Lower drops the two lowest scores. There is a final project at the end of the semester, but as long as you do the work prior, it's not too bad. The lecture videos were not long.
Let me start out by saying the course design was great! Finally a professor who doesn't utilize discussion posts for every...single...thing. However the professor himself, though he can be nice, is not very accommodating if you are going through a hard time. Overall course was cool, overall the professor could use some empathy.
Dr. Lower kept the online class extremely organized. He was easily accessible for help. The quizzes allowed you two tries, taking the best score. There we no exams rather multiple and a final project exam. Overall, the content was interesting and applicable to the real world.
Professor Lower keeps things organized, with weekly quizzes you can retake. The content is interesting, and unstuck study was a helpful study tool alongside the lectures. Definitely an easy A if you stay on top of it.
Took ENR2100 online and his lectures were great! It was easy to reach out to him with questions and it's clear he wants his students to succeed.
A nice class to take to boost your GPA. As a CSE major. This class was very easy to balance with other coursework.
Dr. Lower is really cool and gives good feedback. He makes the class very easy and enjoyable.
