This man is absolutely brilliant!!! He has much to share. Excellent lecturer.
Exremely easy, considering you will know exactly what will be on the tests. But its all lecture, with you can tend to zone out easily. ANd he walks back and forth during the entire class. But its an easy A if you can deal with boredom
No Comments
TWO WORDS: EASY A.
He knows EXACTLY what he's talking about. His lectures about history are like talking to the guys @ ESPN about March Madness. He talks about it like common knowledge. That's what ANYONE would want in a History instructor!
VERY easy class, only problem is it takes weeks for him to hand things back. TOTAL HOTTIE!!!! ;)
He was so unorganized and nothing ever got back to us.
He is a very smart guy and knows his material. However he was a fairly difficult grader and did not give me the benifit of the doubt. I did all the assigned work well and did ec and somehow I got a C.
This teacher rocks!makes history very intersting. His class is very straight forward. As long as u prepair for the tests and do the assignment there is no reason why you shouldn't get a bad grade.Gives life stories about history that tie into the class. This makes his lectures interesting.Very Nice
SUCH A WEIRD MAN!! He can't stand still for more than 5 minutes. You don't even have to go to class to get an A. As long as you get the worksheet, you have the entire test in your hand. He does take weeks to hand things back though. VERY VERY unorganized as well. At least he knows his material
Mor-ON! Very unorganized! Late for class. Can't stand still- paces constantly! Takes weeks to get tests back! Tough grader. Do ec & you'll get a good grade. I wouldn't recommend him.
Where to start...well, he really knows the material. In fact, he might know a bit too much, because once he gets started on something, he rambles on for sometimes 20 minutes on end. Also, try not to watch him when he lectures. He paces so much during class I almost got dizzy watching him.
Not much work for a B but if you want an A your gonna have to work. Grading scale is harder then normal which sucks
This class might as well be an independent study. All you need is the worksheet for the exam. Study it. Memorize all the terms and one essay question, you have an A for the exam. YES, it does take him 2-3 weeks to hand back exams. However, grading scale is altered...93 to 100 is an A.
a knowledgeable and insightful history teacher...takes several weeks to pass back tests...incredibly easy if you study material
He clearly loves history. Very knowledgeable. Tests are easy. Be able to write 4 sentences on each term. There are 4 mult. choice ?'s, and one "long" essay. He's probably not the best joke teller, but he does throw them in occassionally; you'll get a chuckle. (He kinda reminds be of Abe Lincoln.)
I'm still laughing about this class. What a joke! If you can keep your cool about not getting ANYTHING back, and I mean, you may get one out of four tests back, then it's a pretty easy grade. However, his grading scale kind of sucks. Yeah, you can blow off two-four weeks and still get a B.
WORST TEACHER EVER! Easy A, but I hated this class. He comes 10-15 minutes late for every class, waste of my time. You can miss lots of days & still get an A. Has the 93-100=A 85-92=B grading. Didn't require essay, only 3 tests no hmwk. WASTE OF TIME TO TAKE HIM! FIND A BETTER TEACHER!
Ohh man, this guy is crazy. He knows just about everything about History and his stories are interesting. BUT, you have 3 tests and one essay. We didn't even know what we got on the essay that was turned in about a month b4 the class ended. Our grades weren't up on time either.
Man, does this guy ever go off on tangents. Once went from the Rev. War to the battle of 1812 to when Social S. was implemented (1936 if you care), and then back to the RW. If you love history, you'll love his teaching. Never had work returned, which sucked. His organizational skills are sooooo bad!
Great Teacher, if you like history you will like this weird guy. he loves goin off on tangents. so beware, but its useful tangents. well i thought he was awesome!
HORRIBLE teacher! I was so bored in this class, LoL. He really does skip around with topics and such. Its hard to follow what he says sometimes.
He just lectured and people could barely ask questions, he wore the same pair of pants every day.
Yeah dude's pretty cool, but what's up with him wearing the same pair of tight jeans everyday??
ive had him before, and if u can put up with his off the wall comments, u can pass him easily. his tests are easy as heck if u follow what he says and u see the study guide
His assignments and test were pretty easily, but his lectures were off the wall at best. Half the time I would just fall asleep in his class. I knwo he means well and he seems nice... he is just not a very structure and organized as fair as the class room goes.
His skipping around teaching style appealed to my ADHD mind. He was disorganized. His tests are so easy, pay attention to the study guide.
not a fan of this class. if you want an easy A, just study the study guides. ALWAYS at least 3-15 minutes late, one day 35 minutes late. not professional for having a doctoral degree. nice man, but hard to follow lectures. guy who loves history = A+, good TEACHER of history, C-.
This guy is really strange, but I like him... often talks too fast to understand, but he knows what he's talking about, and obviously loves history. He's disorganized, but does not use notes- and if you saw how fast this guy talks and how much he talks about, you'd be impressed as well. Knows just about everything, insightful answers to questions.
I had him for 3 classes. The man is a genius! He is kinda annoying because he paces back and forth and talks about a lot of irrellevant things, but he gives you study guides and the tests follow those. He really is a nice man, and if you need help, he is more than happy to give it to you.
The man's a walking textbook. Yes, he knows what he's talking about, but all he ever does it talk! He wears the same thing every day, shows up late (even on test days), is VERY unorganized and sloppy and gives everyone C's because is too lazy to grade tests, papers, and attendance. (not joking) It takes him MONTHS to grade a single test or paper!
It is obvious that he is a very smart man and that he LOVES history, but he not a very good teacher. It is impossible to takes notes in his class. He goes off on tangents everyday and sometimes repeats the same lessons. But he lets you know exactly what will be on the tests.
All that has been said is true, he is very disorganized. We never got our papers back for "editing" after he cancelled the second one. A lot of confusion. Tests are extremely easy. Class will be boring unless you enjoy history as he does. Note taking isnt very hard, you just have to develop a skill for spotting the terms when he speaks.
All that is said is true. This man walks back and forth and rambles away.Tests are EASY!Got high grades on what was handed back however, nothing gets handed back.It is now over a week since grades where posted and this teacher has not turned them in.Not only his dean but his deans boss cant get a hold of him to get our grades! He knows his but boring
This is a great teacher. Very enthusiastic. He does take a while to get to the point and takes a while to grade, but if you follow the handouts you will ace the class. Cool guy if you give him a chance.
Very intresting prof. Knows alot about history, but can't stay on track. Grades very easy, but i never got any papers back. I would not suggest this prof.
Why would COD hire someone like him to teach students? It's terrible wasting all this money for classes and the teachers we get don’t come to class on time and are unorganized and don’t pass papers back. This is ridiculous. I just want to learn but i cant because of this nonsense.
He's a nice guy, but god, I just don't understand why he teaches. He goes on about nothing. I really really should have checked before taking him as my teacher.
Not a very good teacher. Often arrives late, smells terrible, goes off on really strange tangents for half the class time--that's not exaggerated. He takes forever to pass back your tests. He doesn't cover all the curriculum. Don't take this class if you want to actually learn about history.
why bother coming to class? there's no attendance sheet ever. whenever i decided to go to class there were only abt 5 other people there. got A's on every single test because all you need to do is MEMORIZE TERMS! ridiculously easy. 4 tests and one gets dropped! easiest A OF MY LIFE. doesnt matter to me if he paces i never show up to see it haha
He is an AMAZINGLY EASY professor. He is so knowledgable at the subject matter, just pay attention to his lectures, take good notes. He drifts off topic easily pay attention. Tests are super easy, use Wikepedia for notes. Dont need to spend money on the book, just buy the "Forging..." essay book, i hate history i learned alot...and got an easy A.
great teacher. I actually learned things in this class.
Took as Indep Learning class. He grades the essays on the tests and midterm/final papers very easily. For indep learning, only other thing is MC at testing center. Just memorize terms for that. Can never get ahold of him and he MAILS grades out like a month after you turn something in. Prolly better to take in person.
This professor is unstructured and disorganized. He paces back and forth and his disposition is a bit unusual. BUT he is extremely knowledgeable about history and and it is apparent that he is passionate about it. He is a really nice guy and if you try to take good notes and study them, you should do really well in his class. I recommend him.
take this class if you want an A
Great teacher. Very enthusiastic. Was very engaging. Got people motivated by being so excited himself. Take this guy.
Mr. Moran is a very "interesting" teacher. He is definitely enthusiastic about his work and he really knows a lot about the topic he teaches. He never managed to keep my attention though. I'm a good student, but I would always drift off to sleep in his class.
Professor Moran is a historical enigma who may have worn the same thing everyday. He is one tragedy away from becoming a old school Batman villain. I could easily see him hiding a rival in some old Sears building and leaving Batman historical clues to find them. He is eccentric, but he knows his stuff and is an excellent teacher. Highly recommended
Nice Guy and super easy grader. He definitely knows what he is talking about and loves what he does. Watch out though, he passes a LOT and his hand writing is illegible. If attendance is an issue for you, he is perfect. Rarely takes attendance and you can get the notes from the book. I got an A and never came to class
Brian is..Interesting. He is very brilliant and smart. He definetly knows what hes talking about. The downsides is he never means to digress but he does just about every five minutes. His tests are super easy.Dont bother buying the book you wont need it to pass. Overall he looks like Where is Waldo. but he's super nice and helpful
BY FAR THE EASIEST COLLEGE CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN! (POSSIBLY THE EASIEST CLASS EVER!). He takes a VERY long time to grade but it is worth it- easy A. You do not need to attend class! He is definetly odd but he is overall a nice guy
This teacher is excellent. Hes a bit eccentric but he is literally a walking talking encyclopedia. He educates us with stories about specific events that you cant find in college history books. It was very interesting. Hes a nice man too. Easy A as well .
He is a nice teacher, but takes forever to return assignments and tests back to students.
Each test is multiple choice and short answer, you need to pick & define 6 terms (from the list he already gives you) and answer 3 questions from the small book (bring it in, typed). There is one paper (three pages, DOUBLE-SPACED) on the Cantigny or museum trip. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about this subject. Would highly recommend.
Brian is the best teacher at COD. He was meant to do what he does.
Very unorganized, took forever to return exams. Very hard grading scale, you need a 92% to get an A... grades exams very hard
If you are taking his class because you enjoy the subject then he is awesome. I love a good lecture and he is just full of information that he can't wait to tell you about. Very interesting but if you cant pay attention tests will be difficult. Only 4 grades all semester. I took history of Chicago
Brian is a pretty cool teacher. If you really like history, go ahead and take this instructor. I will only give him 3 stars because he can be very unorganized.
He really knows the subject and is very passionate about teaching it. He is a little unorganized, but who cares? He was an easy A while being interesting to learn from. Take him as long as you are willing to put in a little effort.
He is a goofy guy but loves what he teaches. He needs to work on his time management. Tests take forever to get graded. He does love to go off topic allot but it does somewhat pertain to what he is teaching. Extremely easy classes no assignments were given except for the written part of the tests he gives. Test are easy as well, just define terms.
extremely easy class. we had 4 grades, the midterm and final, which he gives you 20 terms that are gonna be on the test you pick 7 and explain them. then 2 other grades were essays that you didn't even need to be in class for, just read a chapter and write about it. thats it. don't even need to show up to class
Dr. Moran is a good guy and definitely knows his stuff. It's a shame that most people don't show up to class, you can really learn a lot from him. I came in hating history but I've learned to appreciate it because of him. He was born to be a history teacher. He'll tell you stuff that you won't find in textbooks.
Prof Moran is a fantastic historian. He's super passionate & his class was not only interesting but it was very easy. Not much homework at all or tests. When there are tests make sure to go over notes & ask questions during reviews, you'll be fine. You won't need the books much. Take Moran's class, I highly recommend it!!
If you like a nice long lecture from the beginning of class until the end on a daily basis take this class. He will never hand out a worksheet for you to complete but will give a few assignments all together. He is very unorganized and takes a very long time to grade things. He does however, know his material well, he just needs to work on teaching
He lectures every class, but you dont have to show up to pass. He gives lots of extra credit and there was only three or four small assignments all semester. (Only time you need the book, annoying) His final and midterm are both 25 multiple choice question. He gives you a list of the 25 vocab words ahead of time. Easy A. Nice, knowledgeable guy
Dr. Moran is very passionate about what he does. His lectures are interesting and I learned so much about U.S. History. Attendance is not mandatory and there was 2 exams, a midterm and a final. We had one fieldtrip to attend and a few short essays to write. Read, take notes from lecture, and you'll be in for an A.
Very very interested in the subject he teaches. He's like an encyclopedia of knowledge. If you don't go to class and take good noted you won't pass the test, but you can get an A easily if you do the extra credit opportunities he provides.
He does know his stuff when it comes to subject matter; however just sitting during his 3 hour lectures is brutal. If you can manage that he will be a great teacher for you. If you have a problem with watching someone pace back and fourth while speaking at a rate of 200 words a second do not take his class. Also he does NOT respond to emails.
Professor Moran is a good guy, he definitely knows his stuff. But his lectures are very long and unfocused, he needs to work on getting the information across to his students better. I was honestly a little let down that I didn't get more out of this class
I found the criteria of the class amazing. I actually read & finished both of the books! However, Dr Moran, although a very intelligent man, is also quite the scatter brain. Three hour lectures, could be cut down or cover more if lectures weren't sidetracked or he didn't have to pause to find stuff online (A PowerPoint would have helped so much!)
He was a great teacher, in my opinion. Gets a bit sidetracked and isn't the best at grading in a timely manner, but he was very fair and gave lots of extra credit opportunities. A 93 or above is an A, and is easily accomplished if you do all the homework (which isn't much) and EC. Willing to answer questions, really knows his stuff. Would recommend
Great teacher who really knows his stuff. Unfortunately he is really bad at explaining why you got the grade you received. You may get all A's on blackboard but get an official grade much lower.
Hes a goofy teacher, if you take him you will understand what I mean. Barely any homework- simply answer questions from the end of chapters (book was thinner than a finger). He does know what he is talking about, and I actually learned and remember things. He talks most of the time, but aye made history better than it sounds.
Moran is a passionate instructor who really knows what he is talking about. If you miss lectures you will suffer. Every lecture is from his memory so there is no way to get missed notes from him. Tests are very easy if you study, he outlines everything that will be on them.
Great teacher. You can feel his passion for history in his lectures. Attendance is not mandatory, but I strongly suggest to attend if you enjoy history. He is a bit scatter brained at times, but I think its due to his level of intelligence. Only 2 tests, midterm + final, tells you what will be tested. 3 or so writing assignments. Allows late work.
He is a very nice teacher, but he is a really hard grader. You need a 93 to get an A, a 85 a B and 75 just to get a C. All my other teachers grade normally. He needs practice writing, you can't read his hand writing at all. He really knows his history, but he treats your papers like this is an English class and a history class for history majors.
He honestly has chicken scratch hand writing, you will NOT be able to read it. He does not use PowerPoints or anything. He just talks about random things that come to his head the entire class. boring and honestly I didn't learn much, no matter how hard I tried to pay attention. Lectures don't seem very prepared
Probably the worst teacher I've had. He was a very tough grader on discussion papers because he didn't specify what to write. He also said he would have 6 discussions but only ended up giving 3 which tanked my grade. Even though I got over 100% on his midterm/final exam I ended up with a C. Do not take a class w/him if you want your GPA to survive
He is a different kind of teacher. Basically chicken scratch writing but he says what he is writing. He is passionate about History. He only grades you on like 6 things throughout the whole semester. I got an A in the class and never read the book only read it for Papers. Little to no homework. Should be in class because most info is from lecture.
Nice guy, very dedicated to history, and very knowledgeable. Lectures for the entire class so it became very boring for me. However, the test info is directly out of lectures. We opened the book twice the entire time and it was for two small homework assignments. Only those and a few tests are your entire grade. Offers extra credit.
Doesnt post anything to blackboard, and spaces outs notes, wont write in complete sentences
Just dont take him. He is so lost he doesnt organize his work he do whatever come to his mind you cant read his hand writing. He is soooooo boring i would sleep in his class. But he is really knowledgeable but not a good Proffesser he could be the best person to know the history from but not class. Anyway u can survive his class but the worse
If you love History, this is the perfect professor. He knows a lot and almost everything. His class is not hard, just do the homework and study for tests. He gives you a study guide for each test, so it makes it easier.
The class is about 6 papers and 5 homework assignments, they aren't hard. But he puts NO grades in all semester you never know if you are doing well in the class or not. Also while he is lecturing he jumps all over the place so its hard to follow along.
GO TO CLASS!!! It won't hurt your grade but you'll be lost. He lectures every single class with no power points or notes. Both the midterm and finals were small papers, take home too! There is only a few assignments the whole semester and he does not post anything to blackboard. However, he is super nice and offers many extra credit opportunities.
Easy class, just do the work on time, he grades nicely and solid choice trust me
Professor Moran is extremely knowledgeable in the topics that he teaches, but the way he teaches them is not comprehensible. Many students in the class dropped within the first month and my class now consists of 8 people, most of whom work on other homework, play computer games, or don't show up. He is very sweet, but his class is one big lecture.
Extremely knowledgeable and passionate about history in a broad sense. Though his lectures are often scattershot and meandering to the point where you can sit through an hour of a lecture without getting any obviously relevant information to the topic that was supposed to be covered in class that day. Nice guy, but not a class for everyone.
He's very lecture based, but if you read the book and do the homework (essays) you should be ok. However, he does take his time grading but like I said, if you do the homework you should pass no problem. If you DO NOT like a lecture based class, he would not be the teacher for you. Overall, so incredibly nice and informative. I enjoyed his class!
I feel bad giving a low score since Prof Moran's a nice guy, but I couldn't understand a lot of what he was saying because he mumbles, and I could not read his handwriting if he were to write on the board. He never responds to ANY emails, and his blackboard assignments were unorganized and confusing.
Grading system is 92 is a B, only 4 essays all semester that are just copy paste from the online textbook (free), extra credit questions. Grades very late, takes almost a month to respond to emails. Doesn't tell you everything wrong with essays, terrible with feedback. a risk taking him because of his grading + terrible communication.
Professor Moran is an awesome history guy, you can tell he is fascinated by what he is teaching. He does grade only on a few assignments, however, he offers many extra credits. The grade for this class is 100 credits, you can receive up to 30 extra credits (I got 20). You'll get an easy A if you finish the assignments and get some extra credits
DO NOT TAKE. Doesn't respond to any emails ever (which is extremely frustrating especially because his assignments aren't clear whatsoever). Takes forever to grade, and overall just extremely unorganized.
This guy was amazing, funniest teacher ive ever had. Very laid back class just do the 4 assignments and youll get the A. Im not sure why youd want to take anyone else unless you enjoy lots of reading and homework.
Best class ever. First off the professor is extremely knowledgeable, nice and funny. Secondly he typically grades by 4 written assignments throughout the semester (we only had 3). Each typically worth 25 points. If you use the *free* online textbook and take like 5 minutes of notes in class to use in your assignments you'll get 100% in the class!
Professor Moran's class is a great option - he's funny and makes the material engaging. Just do the assignments and grab some extra credits from unstuckstudy, and you'll cruise to an easy A.
Professor Moran's a great professor! I took him for 1130 and 1140 (because I had a good experience with 1130). Although all the classes are lectures, he doesn't have any tests and there's only 5 assignments the entire semester! Would highly recommend his classes! He seems very knowledgeable and dedicated.
Brian is one of the worst professors I had, first he never ever responds to emails, I sent him an email about my accommodations and he did not respond and I emailed him like 3 times this semester and no response. He barely grade stuff and he took forever to grade stuff too. His class is only lectures and it's boring and his writing is hard to see.
This professor is very passionate about what he is teaching but ends up going on rants about other things and his lectures are very boring and hard to follow due to his near unreadable hand writing which makes it hard to get a good grade on one of the paper where u need to use some evidence from the lectures itself. Do not take this professor.
