Seems a little rigid at first but STICK with the class... try & you'll pass :) He's got the cutest dimple when he smiles...so attending class wasn't exactly a chore

Mr. Newman makes accounting more enjoyable then what it would be without him as an instructor. He also has a sense of humor that also made Accounting 1080 more enjoyable.

Mr Newman is the best teacher at Macomb. He is very knowledgeable & his passion for accounting is visible in his teaching methods. The work put into this course will determine your grade, there are no surprises. I would take Mr Newman again in a heartbeat, as you will actually use what is learned.

This guy prepares you for the real world. He offers a perspective like no other teacher at Macomb. If you're expecting an easy class, you may as well look elsewhere...cuz he means business. I received an A in the course, but I worked my ass off. I wouldn't recommend any other accounting teacher at Macomb!

Down to earth teacher. Tests are a bit challenging but doing the Hmwk and reViewing slides that he hands out are helpful. Do Ur ethics paper and Hmwk and you can get a B no problem. Put some effort in and you will get an A! Only need textbook and a notebook. He teaches just like Walsh. You will learn the material but in a fun environment!

Very happy with the way professor Newman taught the class. This was by far the toughest class I have taken but i learned so much about the accounting profession which I am going into. Mr. Newman was willing to help students out and provided excellent handouts and powerpoint presentations for each chapter. The tests were difficult but he gave E.C.

I found Brian to be very knowledgeable with the subject and he encourages learning and growth. I really respected his methods; if you really try, he will help you. His examples are real world and in everyday! I recommend him highly.

Coming from a university to a community college accounting class, I was not expecting much out of the teacher...but Brian was great. Some students may not get along well with his personality type, but if you try to learn the material, he will help you until you understand. He genuinely cares about his students. Great professor.

An overall nice buy but do NOT take his online course. This class was extremely tough and if you don't have an accounting background you will be lost with this workload. Like I said very nice guy but the class and teaching style... forget it.

Online this is a tough course simply due to the type of content and online quiz's. The professor is a VERY FAIR teacher. I feel I put in just over an average amount of effort and did well. He did not penalize me for not getting 100% correct answers or incomplete forum questions. He will advise you to make improvements. Listen to his feedback!!!

This was the first accounting class that I took at Macomb where I actually came away feeling as if I learned anything. I wish I would've taken professor Newman for the introductory accounting courses. The group project has been a PAIN, but we are learning alot from it. There is never a dull moment in his class. I would highly recommend!

Great teacher. Is really helpful and he knows the material very well. You definitely need the book, read it before class. He assigns homework problems from the book which are essential to do. As long as you pay attention and study you should do well. He will answer any questions you have. Make sure to study for the exam which are pretty hard.

ill tell you Professor Newman is fair. He's exams are difficult due to the wording in my own opinions. Attempting hw will get you credit. Show up to class. There are open notes quizes for each chapter allowed to use notes books anything but phone and fiend. barely any extra credit but if you try hard you will succeed.

He really makes everyone feel comfortable in class and is always offering people help during his office hours. I suggest doing all homework, even if it's not due to turn in. Professor Newman is one of the best professors at Macomb College and one of the best at Walsh. He is always there for you. Answers all questions and making sure you really understand (not memorize). I took all my classes with him except of 1080. If you are Accounting major save yourself time, money and nerves- take him form the very beginnings.

His class is tough but expectations are reasonable. If you do the work and keep up with the reading you will do just fine. Has office hours available for you to seek additional assistance. He makes accounting fun. He recently gave extra credit for donating canned goods to the school food drive - pretty awesome gesture.

You will earn your grade in any of his classes. He doesn't make the class easy and if he did, you wouldn't actually learn the subject matter. The class is tough because there is a lot to learn. Mr. Newman encourages an entertaining learning environment. He appreciates when students put forth effort and is happy to help outside of class. The lectures are usually fast, he spends more time going over the homework problems, which are important to being successful in accounting. Work the hardest in the beginning and the rest will be easier.

Professor Newman is great when it comes to teaching accounting. He will spend the time to make sure you understand the material and will even stay after class to help you out. Prof Newman makes this class as easy as he can. The material is hard to understand but he explains it the best he can. Tests are a majority of your grade with four of them totaling 80% of your grade. You receive a full grade for homework if you attempt it. He answers any and all questions pertaining to accounting. The class is difficult but doable.

Newman was great, I took this course online. It is a lot of work but it is very doable. Make sure you read your book and understand how to do the math. You can access the book online so you only need an access code unless you want the physical copy as well. Overall I would definitely take a class with him again.

I had Newman 2 years ago for this class. I recently passed the FAR section of the exam with a score of 85. I can still remember Newman beating those topics into my head. Take this class with him as you'll never come across a better, more caring instructor. It shows that he truly cares about his students.

This has been the toughest class ever! You will work your butt off just to keep up with the amount of work given. The teacher gets back to me within a couple hours if I have questions. He's been my best online teacher so far at Macomb. I would not recommend taking accounting online! This teacher has been great.

Third time taking this class as math really isn't my thing. proffesor relates the material in a comfortable atmosphere and has been amazing since the first day of class. There is allot of work but there are tutors at the College to help you and help you succeed. I got a B on my first exam after never scoring higher than a 50% on other exams.

ACCT1080 is a very hard course to begin with but this class has 4 exams 12 quizzes (only the 10 best count) and hw assignments for each chapter. There are 4 extra credit opportunities.

Professor Newman is a great professor who is very knowledgable about Accounting and is a CPA. He has great energy and offers extra credit and grades homework based on if you attempt it. His tests are hard and are 80% of your grade. I would take Professor Newman again in the future. He cares about his students & is prompt with responding to emails.

I highly recommend this professor. I took the course online. The online access code is required for this course because that is how you will complete the homework and quizzes. The work load for this class is not overwhelming. The professor is also very quick to respond to your emails if you have any questions or concerns throughout the semester.

Amazing teacher! This was an Accounting class that didn't suck! Lays out the material in a way that you aren't doing extra work. Lectures on every chapter and makes you do an open book quiz. Seriously if you get less than 90% on the quiz, you're not doing any work. Very funny teacher, you will get called out for being on your phone!

I miss Prof Newman so much. My current teacher is OK, but really makes me miss Prof Newman that much more. He breaks down the topic very well and keeps a light hearted atmosphere which is good because accounting is dull. His class isn't easy but you know what to expect because he writes the exams. I loved having Professor Newman for ACCT1080. As an accounting major who is transferring to Walsh after Macomb, I really appreciated his class format. I only wish the class was on-ground. I think I wouldve done much better and personally struggle with an online format. He really does care especially if you tell him you will be an accounting major.

I had a rough time with a previous accounting professor. I don't have the grade I'd like to have in the class, but overall I've learned way more in this class and have a way better grade in this class with Professor Newman.

One of my friends who is a CPA recommended Newman to me for accounting 1080. I'm glad I made this decision. This professor has a lot of knowledge on the subject and answers every question you pose to him. There is a decent amount of homework but considering the difficulty of the course, the assignments are worth doing.

Newman is a great professor, but the course work is a lot. Attendance is helpful in order to do well in his class. The assignments are very helpful, the nongraded assignments will benefit you a ton. Lectures are mainly recaps, so make sure to do the work prior to class. Reading and asking questions will benefit you greatly.

The information presented is very dense toward the end of the course so do not be afraid to ask questions. There was lots of homework and it is a very difficult class but if you pay attention and actually try to learn Mr. Newman is a very good professor and he does actually care if you learn.

He's a good professor.

Take Newman!!! You wont be disappointed. Best teacher at Macomb. I want to take him for 1090! He makes a boring, dry class tolerable. I actually found myself looking forward to his corny jokes. Two debits doesnt equal a credit. Do not take this class in 8 weeks, 16 weeks is much more manageable, I learned the hard way.

Very nice and kind. Gives lots of homework, quizzes are given about every other week and exams are every three chapters.

Honestly great guy, the work load in my opinion is a bit much. However he does a good job teaching the material needed to for the test. You really do have to attend for a good grade, and teach yourself a bit but hes there to help. During COVID I think he does a good job overall, especially for this being a moderately difficult class for some.

Accounting was not a class I was looking forward to, however, Professor Newman did a great job with online learning due to COVID. He was always willing to help and answer questions. He never would disregard the student's questions. I also thought that the assignments were weighted fairly and there we opportunities to boost your grade.

He is not bad.

Newman is one of the best professors I have had. He made the lectures as entertaining as possible and engages with students. I emailed him many times and he would reply back immediately with helpful answers.

Newman was great during lectures and really helped us to understand the material especially with it being an online course due to COVID. Great for accounting!

Just passed the CPA exam on my first try. Prof Newman was my inspiration after taking him for Acct 1080 almost 5 years ago. Great, sincere and funny Dude. You will learn all about Accounting in a fun, relaxed atmosphere in a manner where it makes sense. He likes to pick on the back row, be forewarned!

Professor Newman isn't the problem. It's the platform used for the online class that's the problem. If you don't pass the final, the best grade is a C-. It's hard especially if you take it online. Tons of homework in 8 weeks. Expect to spend at least 25 hours a week on homework/quizzes/lectures, I wish I was joking. Take on campus if you can.

Class is tough but he was solid teacher. The tutoring helps if need be.

Tends to use terms not in the book, so it can throw you for a loop a bit. Other wise great teacher!

Professor Newman brings a realness to account class. He will give you real life examples. Being in his class he interacts with students and helps everyone. HOWEVER! I would HIGHLY recommend taking any account class on site not online.

Needed this course on campus

Although there's a lot of work he explains it well and gives a lot of opportunity for better grades. One of the best ive had and ive retaken this class.

I took Professor Newman online in the spring and did not do well -my own fault- this semester on ground with him was enjoyable and I actually liked going to class. He made the class fun and even though accounting isnt always enjoyable, I enjoyed learning from him! I highly recommend taking this class!

Brian Newman was a great professor, accounting is a hard class so I didnt go in very optimistic. The thing is he has the class set up to actually teach you so you learn and dont just pass. Im happy that Ive come out of this with knowledge. Id also like to point out that he cares about his students who are on ground.

You will actually learn how to do the fundamentals of accounting. You will be challenged but its worth it.

By far one of the best teachers Ive had at Macomb Community College so far. He knows how to make class fun but manage time wisely so all students have a good understanding of the topic and teach valuable information.

Its my first major class. I started with little nervous, specially my weak English. He went through the lesson, answered all our questions.

Awesome teacher. His classes are fun and he keeps you focused. He cares about the material and accounting as a profession. Easy to talk to and will help you out if you are having difficulty. Take notes! Take the class in person too.

He cares about his students and accounting. Explains everything in easy to understand terms. His lectures are entertaining and engaging. If you have to take accounting he is the professor you want.

One of my favorite professors was Professor Brian Newman. You will never be bored in his class because he attempts to engage every student. He was always happy to assist any signal student, and he had office hours after every lesson. If you want to learn and comprehend accounting, he is the best professor at Macomb Community College.

I took this class 100% online in 2021. It's all through McGraw-Hill Connect, which is a really easy platform to use. He always seemed available and eager to help, I'm sure he'd be really great in person. Online accounting classes are really fast and challenging, but doable.

Brian is literally one of the most caring professors i have ever taken. He was so nice and understanding. I once asked him to give more time on quizzes and he happily did and i loved that! he responds to emails very quickly and he is always happy to help!

This professor is amazing at keeping my attention. I actually look forward to getting up for our 8 am class. Take Newman if you can.

Great prof. Took this class online and dropped due to my course load. Retook the class onground and got an A. So long as you pay attention and do the homework, he explains the rest. Wish he taught acct 1090.

If you take this 8-week accelerated course be prepared to dedicate 20-25 hours to this course. If you're ever having an issue or are stuck on a problem, reach out to professor Newman over email, he responds pretty fast, sometimes within minutes! Beware that the quizzes are due by 8 pm on Sundays. Overall solid professor, i would highly suggest him.

GREAT PROF! I was very nervous about taking accounting as I had heard about how difficult things were. Awesome classroom experience! There's alot of work, but if you actually do it you will do well. Prof Newman made the class an extremely enjoyable experience and motivated me to switch my major. Macomb has some amazing teachers.

Workload is ALOT but that is to be expected in an 8 week class. This was my second time through and this professor was very responsive to my questions. Workload is doable, but take the class by itself.

If you pay attention and ask questions often, he will always provide a detailed answer and make sure you understand it. He always telling jokes and keeping students participating in the lecture. There is a fair amount of homework but nothing overwhelming. Overall a solid teacher.

I took this course in person and it was very interactive. Participation in class is mandatory and he will call on you randomly. There are 4 exams and one open book quiz per chapter. Highly recommend reading the book and PowerPoints to get a decent grade! Prof. Newman is a very fun, easy to approach person and he really cares about his students.

I actually changed my major from Marketing to Accounting because of Professor Newman and how he taught. Do not take this class online. I plan on taking Intermediate with him in the future!

DO NOT TAKE ONLINE! Professor Newman is a great teacher and is very fair and clear on how he grades the homework and quizzes. Tough class and lots of homework. Definitely a class you have to apply yourself and do all the homework as well as the other assignments that will help prepare you for quizzes.

Professor newman teaches well in accounting. pay attention. do and understand the homework, do extra credit. weeks 1-4 are very important. dont get left behind.....

This was my first class, after arriving in America, and even though I don't know English well, it was very clear in the explanations, and also motivating (funny). if you do the homework that gives extra credit, the tests will be fine

Ohhh Newman... He can be very hard if you don't follow along with the lectures and read the material. He expects you to have the fundamentals down as this is an intermediate course. Would absolutely take his class anytime. He has rough sense of humor, so if you "can't take the heat" then don't complain. He will help you but only if you ask for it!

Respectable , reasonable , caring and fair

My favorite professor at Macomb. The material isn't the easiest but he tries to make it easy to understand. If you are struggling he is great to talk to during office hours. The exams can be difficult but he gives a lot of extra credit and at the end will adjust grades. I took an evening class and he keeps class interesting so it kept me alert.

This man is Donald Trump of the accounting department here at Macomb Community College, he'll pull up to class - dropping massive amounts of information in humorous, digestible amounts. He's also not one to shy away from some extra credit. 5/5 - Gotated Professor.

Professor Newman is a great professor. He is always on high energy and ready to teach. He's funny and always makes his classes fun. You just need to read the book and do the exercises in order to help you understand the concept better and you'll be fine. Overall great class!

Exams are hard and worth the most throughout the semester. You have to put a lot of studying into each chapter to pass the class.

Great professor overall, learned a lot of accounting but do take it in person. You will need to study and work hard to be successful in this class but nothing too overwhelming.

Solid professor that isn't too lecture heavy, class time is 60/40 between lecture and example problems. Goes over everything clearly and as slowly as needed for the particular class. Straight shooter when it comes to his rules around grading, his way or no way.

He is a very good professor, very knowledgeable about the subject of accounting. Class is very fast paced and while attendance is not mandatory it is strongly encouraged as you will miss things if you don't. Newman made class entertaining everyday. The class is based on the syllabus which is given the first day. All due dates are clearly stated. Be ready to spend time reviewing the chapters outside of class. Every exam consists of material from 3 chapters and out of the 580 points 400 are from the 4 tests. Do the smartbook.

After starting at Walsh College, I noticed how outstanding Professor Newman is. His lectures were clear and helpful, making complex topics easier to understand. My experience with Accounting 302 at Walsh was not as effective. I wish I could take ACC 2190 with him, but because I transferred many credits from Macomb to Walsh, Iam not able to do so.

Professor Newman makes accounting engaging with his lively teaching style. The class requires dedication, but using resources like unstuckstudy ai alongside the textbook can make exam prep more manageable. Overall, an informative course if you're committed to putting in the work.

You will pass if you try hard enough. I struggle in accounting and numbers are definitely not my strong suite, but if you do all the homework, study, go to tutoring if you need help, & ask questions during class, you will pass. Newman is patient and will explain if you just ask. Make sure to do the exercises & notes before class to ask questions.

I loved taking ACCT1080 with Newman. Read the chapter prior to the chapter lecture, study for the quizzes and exams, do the homework (it's graded on completion!) and you'll do fine, just like any college course. This is not supposed to be an easy class as it is accounting but you get out of it what you put in.

Funny guy, definitely will keep you entertained but the class itself is just naturally hard to learn.

Took 1070 and failed. Took his 1080 class that was supposed to be harder and for those in accounting/finance/marketing majors (I am not) and passed with a good grade. Makes class interesting and interactive.

Took ACCT 1080 in the Fall 25 semester. He will call on you, he will give you almost 8 hours of homework some weeks. You'll need it. A ton of information spat at you all at once, but he makes it very digestible.

There is a ton of homework, so make sure you don't procrastinate the chapters. The weekly quizzes are more textbook based rather than the things you do on the homework, so make sure you take good notes and study those before the quiz. He gave me multiple extensions on the chapters when I emailed him that I was sick. Overall very understanding guy.
