Do the readings and the quizzes will be easy. Fun teacher and gives good lectures.
Good teacher, relatively easy. Very interesting.

HE KICKS ASS- young, cool teacher

Cool and funny professor who grades easily. Assignments: readings, quizzes and two papers.
He is funny and amazingly intelligent. Classes fly by.
As long as you read and pay attention you should do fine. He is very laid back. Quizes are weekly over each reading so make sure to read and take in all the info. He's a great professor!
He was extremely intelligent, interesting, and funny. Just read everything and you should be fine.
Good teacher, but notes are sometimes hard to follow, class consists of reading, quizzes, and two papers.
Great teacher, very enthusiastic and extremely smart. you'll actually like this class.
Very smart and pretty sexy if you like bald men
Cool younger guy, VERY sexy voice! Class was always interesting. Quizzes were easy if you read the material, exams were in essay/final paper form. If I weren't a Senior, I'd change my major to English just to take more classes with this man!
Very clear, he knows what he is talking about. friendly and easy to talk to.
I really dreaded going to this professor's class. The amount of reading he assigned was unbelievable and you had to do it becuase he gave a quiz almost every single class. His essay aasignment sheets were almost an essay in themselves and very unclear.
Niro is one of the best professors ever. All though is course is challenging at first, it reaps great benifits in the end. I have never had any professor improve my writing as much as he did. Thanks Niro
Niro is another teacher I liked. Being in his class was...interesting. There were a few challenges and I enjoyed the books we read, esp Quicksand and Passing. If he was teaching another class on my schedule, I would be right there to take it absolutely.
Mr. Niro was sooo helpful to me! I had to email him and go in to see him a lot for help, and he was always smiling and willing to take time out to help me! Take him if you want a laid-back and extremely gentle and helpful teacher! Thanks Mr. Niro!

I've had Brian for several classes simply because I've found him to be a great prof in a number of ways. He's one of the most helpful people here, and is just really down to earth and easy to talk to. *is a Brian Niro fangirl* ^^
Dr Niro is great! A wonderful orator and a very intelligent man, his classes are reasonable and effect good analytical skills from the students. A real pleasure to listen to him lecture; he's not dull or drab. I would take another class with him!
One of the best prof's I've had! Class was a bit challenging but never boring. He was EXTREMELY helpful and a fair grader. I hope I can take more classes w/ him - good class and an awesome guy!
tough grader. "i know it all" attitude
This guy is awesome. Class is fun and interesting. He knows his SH**!
This is a great professor! You really learn a lot from him and he is more than willing to help. He does know his sh*t and his lectures are great I have never fallen a sleep!I would take him again.
My favorite professor at DePaul so far! He makes you work for your grade but it's not too hard to get an A. I'd take another class with him in a second.
Dr. Niro is one of the best professors I've had in college. He has a rather extensive knowledge of literature and narrative theory, but his lectures easy to understand and fun to attend. He had a quiz every class. Just keep up with the reading.
very knowledgable professor and a nice guy too. english 104 is a very technical class so don't expect to do a lot of in-class readings and whatnot.
IF you are a commerce major, don't take him!!! We do not need english and he is one of those kinds of professors who think they know it all, and will give you a hard time in the 10 page paper that he assigns.
I really did not like him. He seems nice but he isn't. He uses a lot of profanity in class, which is totally unneccary, and the assignments are worthless. Don't take him, he will waste your time

really bad teacher, toooo mmuucchh work !
He is hard!!!
Excellent class for Arts and Lit domain. Quizes are easy as long as you read the books...but it's classic books and there not that long, so just read it. A.
i liked him. he's talked to jaques derrida on the phone, and i got **** one night and instant messaged his aol name.
Not a blowoff but a very interesting class, doesnt think he is above the student but everybody is equal. Will learn a lot from him, take him but you must work some.
great teacher, knows what hes doing, enjoys teaching
Brian is awesome, fun, and extremely smart. He's really easy to get a crush on to.
Pretty hard
Makes you work and challeneges you to think differently, however, he is very intersting and makes class very fun. Always cracks a joke and makes sure to explain everything as well as he can. Def. take a class with this professor he is very smart
Niro is the sh*t. So smart, helpful, fun and HOT! Awesome professor who is so far removed from Ivory Tower protension that you cant help but love him. Definatly take him for anything you can
oommg. i dont know why his class was so hard for me. to me he was hard, but he gives u alot of time (late) to turn in papers.
I love this man. He knows what he's talking about. He's one of those professors that is extremely hard, but does not dwell on his intellect. He gives funny comments, and clarifies all the readings. Yeah, the class may require some work, but dang, we are in college.
He was very nice and understanding. Very very helpful! His papers are really easy you just have to read the prompts very well. He is an easy grader if you ask me. I would definately recommend his class.
Niro is a great professor, he knows exactly what he is doing, VERY intelligent, which is so attractive :D, well he does know how to kill a paper though, He is very specific when it comes to corrections and errors. Overall Not easy but not too hard, You totally earn your grade...
He is a pretty difficult grader but if you go and talk to him he will spell everything out for you. He is really smart and really fun in class!

Great professor, all his classes are always fun, you'll want to come back again and again. Average grader, but is willing to help anyone any time just ask and he'll make an arrangement. It's a great clalss to take. Couple essays, two books to read, and some vocab. easy to pass.
One of the best English teachers I've ever had. Clever, intelligent, and easy to understand. Likes to joke around. Occasional quizzes. About four to five papers. Straight forward. Night class wasn't bad. He hated staying as much as us.. so he was super lenient and awesome about time.
I thought he was an good professor that spelled out exactly what he expected. He graded papers a little unfairly. Let us out early all the time, and was very funny! Overall I thought he was a very good professor!
He filled in for our teacher who got sick, and although he was nice and put in a tough spot, he was a tough grader. We really got screwed having our teacher leave in the middle of the quarter. I'd take a full class with him, but his grading seemed a little extreme, considering the circumstance. He's OK... little rough, but hot!!!
Yep, kinda hard grader. I didn't understand his lectures very much (one of those over-analytical types). I had no clue what i was writing on my papers but got high Bs on them.. totally talked out my sass. He's pretty funny though. *I'd recommend.* Gave quizes which i aced (i used sparknotes, didn't read)... DONT BE LATE.
He's great well rounded teacher.
If you ask him for help on papers, he gives really good tips. His grading is sometimes difficult, but a huge factor in his grading is improvement on papers in the quarter. Meaning if you make an effort and meet with him and your papers improve significantly, A in the class.
He was a really good teacher. I actually learned alot. By the way that spoke when he first introduced himself it seemed like he was going to be very hard. Just make sure that you dont say stupid things, because he does'ent like that, and he will make thatb very known. Overall, he's a great professor!
Awesome teacher. Makes class interesting. Fair workload, just read the books, they are good and interesting. Paper is straight foward. too bad he's not teaching anymore at DePaul, you missed your chance for an awesome teacher! maybe he'll be back. If he does teach again, TAKE HIM, you'll be glad you did.
Great professor...keeps class interesting.
So far, one of the best professors I have had at DePaul. Not only does he keep the class interesting, but is also there to help you with the paper. There are 4-5 novels to read, but he picks interesting books so the reading is very simple. I think he doesn't teach here anymore, but if he is available I would recommend him!!!
At first I hadn't given Prof. Niro much thought and one day, it was like he was super handsome. I think its his laugh and the fact that he's so smart and laid back. But to more important things. Easy grader, read the material, participate! You will do fine!
I agree with some of the other reviewers, in that he is bald. However, I think that his baldness is somewhat deceiving. He clearly shaves his head!! Prof Niro must be from Scotland or Bolivia, because his accent was at times hard to follow.

Professor is honestly a very nice guy, but his lack of knowledge on the subject is humiliating. Essentially a 200 level style analysis course became a freshman grammar class until the last week... probably because this was the extent of his ability. Easy A, but fellow english majors: stay FAR away.
This was one of the most entertaining and educational courses i've ever taken. Brian Niro is fantastic, and actually keeps everyone hella intersted in the material.
Prof. Niro is a great professor. He's a fair grader and the material is pretty straight forward. If you are not going to read the assigned reading then don't take him. He gives you tailored quizzes against things like sparknotes so if you don't read then your screwed for the quizzes you have before every class starts.
Extremely interesting class, one of my favorites yet! Niro is great, he keeps things very entertaining. The material is great and the class gets you to think outside of the box. Grading is very fair. Definitely take this class and professor.
As a freshman, his class was wondeful. I had him for an 8am class and he did his best to try and keep us awake. Hes awesome. Everyone wanted him for the next writing class, hes great. His essays are easy. and just go to peer revision wkshops and youll be good. hes excellent!
Niro is honestly my favorite professor I've ever taken. He is extremely intelligent and is knowledgeable about a variety of subjects. He does everything he can to help out his students, assigns interesting reading and minimal assgnmts. He is engaging in class and outside. I will definitely be taking another class of his. Everyone should take him!
He's a very knowledgeable teacher. His class is interesting if you participate in discussions. Plus he only assigned us one big paper.
Do yourself a favor and take this guy. This is one of the best classes at DePaul. Easy A if you do the work on time and spend a good amount of time into work. 4 one page papers and 1 six page paper for the whole course. Honestly the best teacher at DePaul
Super nice guy. I'm a little surprised I got a B, even though I read all the text, completed every assignment, and participated in class; but it was still a good class. I would take him again. Cool guy.
Best teacher at DePaul by a mile. His class was eye opening and very informative. He assigns readings but they aren't mandatory.
Honestly the best class and teacher I have taken at DePaul. I took him over winter break and he made what would have been an ungodly amount of work fun and interesting. He is hilarious and passionate about his work. He made me excited to get up for my 8am, no other teacher has yet to do that. 10/10 would take another class with him.
My second time taking his class and I loved it! He's a phenomenal speaker and does a great job keeping people engaged. The class was based on four books, two papers, and a very easy exam if you read. Would take again.
Professor Niro is awesome. He lets the students discuss the topics while he guides the conversation. Very reasonable, available to meet with. A few short responses and two 5 pg papers. Do the readings and participate. Fun class!
Brian Niro is a really cool professor. He explains the stories we read in detail and is funny in lectures, but he is a tough grader. For him (& I quote)- "C is average, B is above average, and A is a perfect paper". He also makes you write papers in a special format only he likes. Other than the grading he's good!
Tough grader. You need to read for this class since there is a pop quiz at the beginning of every class. Most of the time Spark notes won't help you with the questions he's asking. you'll need to write a "perfect" paper in order to receive an A on them. He let's you rewrite them, but most of the time you probably won't get that A. Not worth it.
Definitely an interesting class. Very in-depth lectures, but a lot of class discussion throughout. It's not just him reading from a slideshow or anything. Lots of reading and writing. Five short responses (about a page), two papers (five pages), and a group presentation that will most likely take the majority of the class.
I loved this class! Brian gives great feedback and I grew as a writer throughout the course. He facilitates great discussions over zoom and assigns podcasts instead of readings which I loved. He's a stickler for grammar, but always willing to answer questions, and had the class write our own rubrics so it doesn't kill your grade. Highly recommend!
Professor Niro has interesting personal experiences to offer, so his class was engaging. He assigns a lot of writing assignments, culminating into a 6-8 page paper. But we had plenty of freedom in our project, so make sure to write about something you enjoy. Follow each of his comments on your assignments; they'll guide you when writing your paper.
Porfessor Niro is a really tough grader. There are a total of 6 assignments and the final paper has to be 6-8 pages. A lot of his feedback is opinion-based and he take points off for it. He tends to be a bit biased as well. He is really heavy on grammar too. His class is boring but he tries to be humorous and is a sweet guy.
Professor Niro is great! I loved the books we read for his tragicomedy section, and he always had interesting lectures. You need to keep up with the reading bc there are quizzes in almost every class, and he encourages participation. He expects good quality work on your essays but he doesn't grade unfairly and he cares about his students.
Professor Niro is great! He is very accommodating and cares a lot about his students. His lectures can get a little long but you can tell he is incredibly passionate about what he is teaching.
He thinks he knows it all the entire time. He also has a huge ego. Do not take his classes.
A truly dreadful experience with trying to understand all the work when he is shoving new work down my throat every class
This class was very difficult. There was so much reading and I don't love world literature that much so it was difficult to get interested. I know his intentions are for you to retain the source material, but the quizzes are hard and he expects very deep answers during class discussions. It's the only class I've ever gotten lower than an A.
I didn't put half as much effort into the finals of my own major as this one literature class because of how this one grades. Even after asking for help on my final draft, he still took off for things he didn't mention before. He assumed we had taken a writing course even with freshman in the class in the fall quarter. Avoid him if you want an A.
The best of the best!
Super cool guy. Interesting lecs and he wants to see students succeed. You're graded on 2 papers and the prompts are very broad. Fair grader and gave great feedback on what to improve for the 2nd paper. Does have pop quizzes almost every day so you really should read(he added a quiz 4 us but didn't change denom. ex: 110/100->120/100 poss pts) LOVE!
Doctor Niro is very personable and makes an effort to interact with the class whenever possible. I have always been terrible at finding symbols and connections in literature, but Niro has trained me to make me better at it. He assigns a metric ton of reading, but it's no big deal if you like stories. If you pace yourself on essays you will do well.
