so smart his name is in the textbook, math whiz
smartest man alive
Gouda 'nuff to teach anywhere in my book
Today in class he told us that he got a score of 26 million on Space pinball. Also he had a 154 game winning streak on Free cell. Now what does that tell ya.
The best math teacher I've EVER had. Funny and gives interesting trivia facts. Tests are not easy, but definitely not impossible if you do the homework and study!
Absolutley incredible. Without a doubt the best math teacher at Tech. Made concepts easy to grasp and connected them the whole time. I use the material he taught in the class all the time within my major. Tough tests, pay attention and you'll do okay.
Excellent teacher, laid back environment, but hard tests.
One of the best math teachers I have had here. He explains stuff clearly and inserts random comments and jokes throughout class to make it more lively. Highly recommended.
By far the best math teacher I have ever had. His sense of humor is great...it's always good to laugh during calculus.
Tests are crazy hard. I didn't find him extremely helpful. When he says he needs to 'get something off his chest' prepare to cringe.
Excellent, what more can you say.
Calculus 2 is one of the hardest math classes there at TTU, but O'Connor makes it a lot better. He has help sessions before each test, and the class is definitely not boring = he jokes a lot and always has a story or some interesting fact to tell us.
Explains the content of the course fairly well in class, but don't even think about asking for help during office hours. He will do everthing he can to not help you out. Material in class is very difficult and he makes you memorize equations like crazy.
I have had him for two classes, and Dr. O'Connor is and has been for MANY years my all time favorite instructor. He teaches well, he is fair, and he a great personality. Also, years after I took a class from him he kindly helped me w/another class!
Great Teacher. Very dry sense of humor, but presents subject matter very clearly. Tests are kind of hard, but he holds study sessions which are very helpful.
it's been 5 years since I graduated...and I can only remember the absolute worst and best professors at TTU. O'conner was definitely one of the best. The subject matter is brutal, but he was always willing to help (go to the study sessions!)
Not a good teacher. Not clear at all. DON'T TAKE THIS GUY.
When teaching he goes way too fast...Very hard to take notes and take in all the information during lecture. Test always challenging. Funny humor during class helps some.
Incredible teacher. Study plenty for his tests and you will do fine. Let me repeat that, study PLENTY for his tests and you will do fine. He is quite clear, jokes plenty, very personal. I highly recommend him to everyone.
A very good teacher for Freshmen just coming out of high school. Provides a "fun" (as fun as cal can be) college course. Has difficult tests, but if you do your homework and go to the study sessions, you should be ok. Bring veggies for the ba
Extremely easy teacher and teaches the material well. Just go to class and you should be fine. Also gives really nice partial credit!!!
Decent teacher in class. If you don't do you work until the end of the semester great because the final is worth 45% of your grade so you can pull it up at then end. Otherwise you get screwed.
By far the best math professor, or professor in general, I've ever had. He teaches each topic very well, and can explain how they each relate to each other. He grades whether you know it or not, not how much effort you put into it. (Grade is five tests)
one of the best math professors at TTU. you really learn a lot, and for the most time class really isn't that bad. he is pretty funny also.
O'Connor is a GREAT math teacher. He explains things very well and he will take however long is needed to re-explain material or go over homework problems.
really good teacher. he tries to make class more fun by adding in little jokes. this is a hard course and he realizes that, he will help anyone who asks for it. you do have to study quite a bit. even though homework isn't required do it anyway. this is about the only way to get a good grade here.
will spend about as much time on a topic as the class needs. always has something funny to say. ("L'H!"). if you're planning on taking this course, do your homework and study, because it isn't easy, but if you do, and ask questions in class, you'll learn a ton. tests are hard and no quizzes.
Very good professor. Teachers clearly. Tests are pretty hard, but he gives good partial credit. Odd sense of humor, but he tries hard. Good choice if you want to learn.
Had him for 3 classes, so obviously I must like him. Makes math class fun to be in with his jokes. Tests are harder than some other teachers but he teaches better so it evens out. You definately earn what you get because I had an A going into one of the finals and needed a couple points on the final to keep it: came out with a B. Oh well.
best teacher at tech! He is so much fun and and creative. Always explains topics very thoroughly. Tests are just like the homework and he is very efficient in getting tests back the nest day. I basically work my whole schedule around his class so i can be in there!
You must be out of your mind to take this guy. Yeah the jokes are great, but I can to learn math not listen to is stupid jokes. Oh! but if your part of his brat pack that take every math class under him, it seems to help when it comes to grading. SO keep that in mind
Dr. O'Connor is great! He is very easily one of the funniest teachers i have ever had. I have only had him for the Honors Recitation for Calc II, but i plan on taking him again, whenever I can. I would recommend him. Just get distracted by his witty jokes! Usually math classes are hard anyway. He will do a good job of explaining the material.
Defintally one of the best Math Professors out there! He is so clear and helpful. He is funny; which adds a lot to the class. TALK TO HIM! He is really an interesting guy. On his teaching: He makes everything pretty clear as day. He goes back over previous topics from other classes and helps you understand those and how they are related. TAKE HIM!
O'Connor is an awesome teacher. His tests are hard, and the only way to get a good grade is to study and do the homework. Always come to class because he teaches slightly different than the book has it, plus his lectures are about as interesting as math gets.
Just don't take him in the summer. He lectures three days on material that is not covered in the next class. He does not let you have a page of notes like some professors, but he is pretty fair. He drops a test grade, which is good. Cool guy.
Gives easy tests that are very straightforward. You can tell that the guy wants people to pass. He does seem to dwell on topics a bit too long and something about his voice makes me want to fall asleep (which can make his class a bit boring) but he makes jokes to help pass the time a little bit. Can tell that he cares about the students.
He is not a very good teacher, at least I think. He all ways shows up to class late and flys threw the sections so he can give you homework. I think all most ever class he held us over! He's to strick a grader and only gives test and nothing else. Would NOT take him again!!!
O'Connor's VERY unstructured. If you like LeBorne, you'll like him, but if you're more of a Hetzel type, you'll hate him. I'm a Hetzel type, and his disorder drove me nuts! However, I still ended up with a B, and I love the guy like my grandpa. Study for tests, take good notes, and go over the lessons in the book. Oh, and he drops a test.
This guy really knows his math. I think he can do any integral known to man. Pretty good at explaining how it's done also. Really nice guy and a great math teacher.
He is awesome. He does hae a slight, monotonic voice, but his random, humerous phrases will make you giggle and listen. Some people dont like him, but those people are just afraid to ask questions. At the beginning of the year, the day before the class, I asked if we can have a study session. He missed the World Series (he loves baseball) to help!!
Dr. O'Connor does care about students and will always help you if you go by during his office hours. His class is not one of the easiest but you will learn something if you pay attention. He teaches at an extremely fast pace and he is hard to follow sometimes.
He is a very good teacher. He is very thorough with the material and makes sure you understand. Gave out practice problems before tests which were very helpful
He is one of the funniest professors you will ever have. Calc III is not too bad compared to Calc II but you still have to study. If you know your stuff and not try to ace the class on zero effort, you will easily ace the class
Very skilled at working math problems but not much else. He will work a problem on the bored then skip twenty steps and put an answer and say "trust me". If you are not supper fast at math don't take him you can't keep up. Jokes around to much kinda creaky how hard he works for his jokes.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! His class is difficult and requires you to do lots of work on your own, but by the end of the semester you know the material backwards and forwards, ready for whatever classes will follow, in which you will probably get better grades thanks to Dr. O'Connor.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!.. I have always made As in every math class that I have taken. I made a C in this class. I studied all of the time, and he does not care if you do good. There are only four tests that make up your grade. All I can say is do not take hime, he is a terrible teacher who does not care about his students AT ALL.
He seems like a nice guy and all but he makes the class harder than it has to be. I would advise everyone to avoid him unless you are an absolute math genius...
Students, just be fair in grading math prof.s and don't blame them for your own faults. Dr.O'Connor is very clear through his examples & explains everything thoroughly. If u don't understand, stop him & ask questions. Don't just sit in his class. Make sure u understand it b4 he moves on. He came 4 test review session at 8:13pm on his anniversary day
Dr.O'Connor is very helpful and will engage with your learning skills if u actually want to learn. Get this, any calculus course is a lot of work.If you want just to pass the course, do not take O'Connor,u'll fail, but, if u want to learn and go further, see him at his office for more. You will enjoy him, he knows it and delivers it,just put ur aff
Worst math professor I have ever had! He's a nice person and all, but just can't teach math! He cannot explain it well and he moves way too fast with the material. His tests are very hard! Help outside of the class isn't very good, either! I just don't recommend this professor!
If you are going to be continuing in math then you should take this professor. he is difficult but if you study youll come out knowing the material very well. Must be willing to do homework and study. He gives GREAT outside of class help. And keeps lecture as fun as math can get, not saying much. Overall awesome teacher would def. recommend
I would advise anyone who wants to keep a good GPA not to take him. If this was your only hard class, you could manage, but he expects you to spend ALL of your time on math.Yes I will admit he does explain things well, but he makes things MUCH harder than they have to be. Your grade only consists of four tests. I loved math until I took his class.
He is a good teacher, but he makes it way too hard. I would reccomend taking a different teacher if you could. I have never made a C in my life until this class. My GPA got ruined.
Dr. O'Connor is an excellent teacher. He does everything that he can to help his students succeed in the class. However it is definitely not easy. Your entire grade comes from 4 tests and then the final. He does drop one of the test grades, though. I got a D on the first test and still managed to pull an A in the class.
He has to be, by far, one of the best professors I have taken. He will go over numerous examples in the book, but he is very willing to break what everything means. The test are someone hard, but it mainly the material that he covers in class.
Was clear on what he wanted, but not clear on instructions. Not helpful and pretty much left you to do it all on your own while he droned on by himself. Did not feel that he encouraged questions in class or outside of class. Wish someone else consistently taught this class.
He is a hard teacher. He also moves very fast (writes at the speed of ligtening and hard to keep up with when taking notes) 4 tests are your grade. He will put some hard algebra on his tests, so know your algebra! He is one of those people that are very very bright and calculus is hard for him to dumb down for the good ole boy...
Great teacher. Tells jokes in class which aren't always funny but it makes for a good atmosphere. Study, do your homework and you shouldn't have many problems. Would take again.
O'Connors tests are like a box of chocolates...you never know what you're gonna get.
He's an excellent professor, teaches the material very well. I did not however make a good grade in his class only because I didn't keep as much as I should've. His tests are fairly difficult, not because the math is hard but he crams too much on the tests. He writes very fast, like someone using a machine gun.
By far my favorite math teacher. His tests are somewhat intuitive but he grades very fair.
Pretty good professor, class is difficult and tedious but overall he's a good professor to take
I passed the AP cal test with a 4 and jumped into cal 2. This teacher is awesome. Everything is perfectly clear and concise, he cracks jokes, and he answers any questions. He assigns homework 99 out of 100 times but its never been more than 6 problems. He is probably my favorite teacher, Im taking him for Cal 3 no doubt. I highly recommend him.
Make Calculus interesting which is definitely a plus. Tells some of the best jokes ever. Crystal clear. Very helpful. Good luck on the tests though.
Our only grades come from test (which are obscenely difficult), he gave no quizzes, homework, or participation grades, he moves way too quickly through material, and skips steps because he's too lazy to work everything out. Also wouldn't hold any kind of study or help sessions. Most of the class did not even make a C...
Definitely would not recommend. Only grades are 4 tests and the final. Throws crazy problems on the tests which are very difficult. Goes way too fast and does not explain material well. I've always been a strong math student and I received a D along with over half of the class. GPA killer...
Dr. O'Connor explains the material like no one I've seen teach math before. He is clear and concise. If you are struggling, he will help you and his office hours are very liberal. His tests are usually difficult and the homework tedious, but you will know the material by the end of the semester.
Nice and funny person, but very confusing professor. I wouldn't take his class again. His notes are all over the place and he doesn't explain much.
Great professor, easy to follow along in class. Tests are kinda hard though, and the only grades that come from his class are the four tests he has and the final. At least he drops the lowest test grade.
Dr. O'Connor is a genius mathematician, but a difficult math professor. His work is a little difficult to follow in class because he does not write out every single step. The homework is optional. Unless you are a math whiz, DO THE HOMEWORK. His tests are hard, be forewarned. He is willing to help you, ask questions!
Dr. O'Connor is a wonderful teacher. He is very knowledgeable about mathematics in general, and he can explain it in a way that is easy to understand. Also, he has great English, which is lacking in the math department. His tests are hard, but as long as you know the material (not just the homework), you will be fine. You do have to work, though.
My favorite professor this semester! He is clear, is open to question, and I personally think he is hilarious in a quirky way. Don't expect an Easy A (or any A), but expect a lot of help.
Is a wonderful teacher. Only gives four tests and a final, but drops lowest test and is a very lenient grade as long as you try. Always give a study session the night before a test to cover any questions you have. Highly recommended.
Dr. O'Connor is great. He's hilarious, and willing to go out of his way to answer any questions over the material. Only three tests, but if you find old tests and study those, it's super helpful.
Dr. O'Connor is a great professor. If you take any maths class with him, you'll surely learn the material but it is not that simple to get an A in his class. You have to work really hard to do that. If you really want to learn the material, he is your best bet. If you are looking for a blow off class, his class is not for you.
He is a great teacher. Only grades are from tests, and homework is optional. If you don't do your homework, you won't pass. I held an A in the class until the month before finals. He is really good about answering questions, and goes over homework problems in class the next days. He grades tests and gives them back really quickly.
All classes were lectures. He was very good to answer homework questions. Gave all tests back the next day.
He's great and passes the time in his lectures well.
Dr. O'Connor is a tough professor. However, he cares about the students. If you need help you can go to his office, but once you get your question answered leave! He will further confuse you if not. I did not do well in the class, but that wasn't his fault. I actually should have made an F but he gave me a D just for trying!
I had Dr. O'Connor back in the late 80's. He was FANTASTIC! I had him for 3 Calculus Classes, got two A's and one B. He teaches to where I could understand and learn. He takes time for the students, answers any questions, always open door. Gave a test every Friday, made me keep up with class, dropped lowest grade. Highly Recommend
Honestly, I don't think it's his fault that this class is the most boring thing I've ever had to sit through. He's funny and a nice guy but he's hard on grading and doesn't really let you participate with questions during class. I'm an ME major and taking this class for math minor. There are more forgiving classes if you want credits for a minor.
Dr. O'Connor has taught here for 40+ years. He still only uses a chalkboard, nothing is online. There wasn't even an iLearn page set up. He teaches well, but only if you attend class and take good notes. Gives around 4-5 homework questions out of the book after every class. The grade for the class is 5 tests with one drop.
Dr. O'Connor is one of the best math professors at Tech. He can be very hilarious and is willing to share some of his really funny stories. I personally found his lecture videos very informative and manageable to follow, since he can write very fast when he is working examples in class. Tests can be challenging, but he is a very fair grader.
He posted about 10 hours of lecture online a week when we were supposed to come every other day in person. Note: this is during the coronavirus pandemic. Most of the people I know failed his class and people blamed it on themselves when really the professor should not have done this. Good professor, bad time to take him on my part.
Professor O'Connor is very clear in his expectations. You work for the grade you get. The homework isn't graded but will definitely help on the test. He only grades on tests and he'll drop your lowest test score. He can write really fast on the whiteboard so it's dangerous to look away for too long.
Nice and funny person. Good teacher, he gave us all the resources for success we needed. Test were not too hard, no trick questions. If you know the material you will do well, its not capped by intelligence.
I have never struggled in math until I took this class. His tests and quizzes are very hard in my opinion. I would study countless hours for all of his exams and I only had one test grade as a D. He only gives out 4 tests and 4 quizzes throughout the whole semester. Do not take this course.
Professor O'Connor is a good guy and a great teacher, but if I knew what I know now before the semester began, I would not take him. I did very well on the individual tests (3 As and 1 B) and quizzes (4 As), but his final exams are killer. I went into the exam with an A in the class, but I'm probably walking out with a C.
Dr. O'Connor is a good professor. I had him for Differential Equations He teaches you what you need to know to do well on tests, and he is always willing to answer homework questions. He holds review sessions before every test outside of class, which can be helpful to prepare for the test. Homework is optional, but you should do it. Good teacher.
His teaching style is VERY lecture heavy. Class consists of him reading the textbook and doing problems from it. No other worksheets or example problems are provided by him, it is ONLY the textbook. In my class, he didn't use the WebAssign, just the book itself. May work for some but the teaching style is very uninvolved. Good guy, bad teacher.
I had him for MATH-1910. He was a great teacher. He had a Webassign class but we did NOT use it AT ALL. The only thing it would have been useful for is the book, but if I were you I would save your money and try to find it online or outright buy a digital copy considering the Webassign only lets you have it for the semester.
O'Connor is a good guy, but his teaching style was not for me. He's a very old-school math teacher and every class will consist of him working example problems on a white board. If you learn by examples, you'll probably like him, but I struggled to understand how or why to apply certain concepts. Grade comes exclusively from tests and quizzes
This was the hardest class I have taken without the professor. He claimed his grading scale was to benefit students' overall grades, however, our test which is supposed to be half the weight is not mathematically correct. It makes no difference. You might as well drop your quizzes because unless you have a 100 on them, they hurt you.
O'Connor is a good guy. His the whole grade is 4 quizzes and 4 exams but he lets you drop the quizzes if they don't benefit you. His regular exams are all reasonable and he is a generous grader. My only issue with him was his final. It was absolutely brutal. Hardest problems from each chapter, definitely not enough time for the problems he gives.
He is a very good teacher. 👍 He does his best to help students out and reserves the first portion of class for questions over the content. ATTEND THE LECTURES.
All of his lectures related very well to the homework he assigned. He is extremely receptive to questions in class. He only teaches what students need to know and not all the other random math concepts that do not apply to anything. Easy to listen to in lecture. Does not give a crazy amount of homework. Highly recommend Dr. O'Connor
BMOC is very lecture heavy. He assigns lengthy homework problems from the textbook and expects you to do them every night without marking them for a grade. He also goes extremely fast in class which makes it hard to follow what he is doing. He focuses on very in depth topics and gives hardly any partial credit. I wish I read more of his reviews.
Personally, I didn't like this professor. The good thing about his class is that his homework isn't mandatory, he is very quiet, but he does drop a lot of quizzes!. The only thing about him is his teaching; other than that, he is a great professor. If you rely on doing homework to learn, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
This class is perfect if you don't want projects or homework with deadlines. O'Connor encourages self learning by assigning book problems that he goes over the day after assigning them, I dont recommend taking this class if you struggle with fast paced classes, and if you are a visual learner (doctor's writing)
